Xochilt Muñoz atesora la maternidad ochitl Guadalupe Muñoz estuvo entre las millones de mujeres que fueron honradas X el domingo del Día de la Madre (8 de mayo).

Nacida en Guadalajara, Jalisco, México, Muñoz vive en Shawnee, Kansas, donde ha criado a su hija Abigail. Aunque su hija tiene 16 años y hace todo por sí misma, Muñoz todavía se asegura de que su hija llegue a la escuela a tiempo, haga sus tareas, asista a clases y haga lo que se supone que debe hacer, dijo. “Le pregunto cómo… (estuvo) su día, (sobre) cualquier chisme o como ella lo llama… ‘Nos entendemos’”, dijo. Sunday (May 8). A native of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, Munoz lives in Shawnee, Kansas, where she has raised her daughter Abigail. Although her daughter is 16 and does everything for herself, Munoz still makes sure her daughter gets to school on time, that she does her assignments, attends classes and is doing what she is supposed to be doing, she said. “I ask her how … her day (was), (about) any gossip or what she calls it – … ‘We check in,’” Munoz said. Motherhood has changed Munoz’s life. “Motherhood is a blessing,” she said. “I love being a mother. I love being Abby’s mom. God picked this beautiful human being and trusted me to take care of her. To watch her grow and become a strong, independent, free-spirited, outspoken young woman is priceless. She’s the reason I get up and keep trying

Named after the Nahautl word for “road” or “path,” the award is presented by the government to Mexican citizens or citizens of Mexican descent who work abroad promoting Mexican culture. Mendez founded the dance school Rose Marie’s Fiesta Mexicana in 1965. Her students have performed at festivals and fiestas around the Kansas City area and across the United States. Current and former students surrounded her when she received the award and delivered an emotional acceptance speech that covered the 57-year trajectory of her dance school. “I feel privileged. … I feel excited,” Mendez said. “It’s like Christmas to see all the little kids here that are now grown and have white hair and mustaches and beards … (and are) catching up to my age. It’s been … (a privilege) to work with the new families that are now the ones that were once upon a time children. … So the generations are continuing to flourish in the backyard.” During the nostalgic speech, Mendez also expressed pride in her family’s history and her Mexican heritage. The longtime teacher – who also has been part of multiple associations that share her life’s mission, including as a board member with the National Association of Folkloric Groups – shared the credit for the award. Other points included a look to possibilities for folkloric dancing. “It goes with all of you, Kansas City and the greater metroplex,” Mendez said. “We’re just beginning, and I’m training a lot of new teachers within the community. So spread your wings. We’ve touched base with all of the major companies in our community. And we’ve highlighted the distinction of being brown-skinned.” The event included performances from Ballet Folkloric Fiesta Mexicana.

Now that Munoz is a mother, she treasures the advice her mother gave and sacrifices her mother made even more, she said. Mother’s Day is important, but mothers should be celebrated every day, Munoz said. “Pick a day to celebrate your mom and that day is your mother’s day,” she said. Munoz advises other mothers in the community to keep doing what they are doing. “Find resources,” she said. “They are out there.”

Growing numbers are struggling with anxiety and depression, he wrote, declining to totally blame Covid. Numbers were rising well before the pandemic, experts affirm. The mental health crisis predated the pandemic, asserts John Walkup, Lurie Children’s Hospital’s psychiatry and behavioral-health department chairman. Covid merely “unmasked people who have underlying vulnerabilities.” A coalition of America’s pediatric health experts last fall declared a national child and adolescent mental health emergency. The American Academy of Pediatrics, American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the Children’s Hospital Association are witnessing “soaring rates of mental health challenges among children, adolescents and their families.” Many are still going untreated, including an estimated 200,000 kids who lost a parent or guardian to Covid. “Screening for depression and anxiety … will be crucial because the symptoms associated with those conditions are easier to manage and do less damage when addressed early,” the coalition stressed. Appended to Murthy’s December warning were recommendations. They include recognizing that mental health is an essential part of overall health. Ensure that every child has access to high-quality, affordable and culturally competent mental healthcare. Address economic and social barriers that contribute to poor mental health. And empower youth and their families to recognize, manage and learn from difficult emotions. Among recommendations for parents: Open a dialogue with kids about how they’re feeling and listen without judgement. Seek advice from a primary-care doctor or school counselor. Learn about valuable community resources. “The future wellbeing of our country depends on how we support and invest in the next generation,” Murthy wrote. “Asking for help is never a sign of weakness. It’s one of the bravest things you can do,” wrote Lee Rivers, CEO, Community Connections of Franklin County in the Adirondack Daily Enterprise. sociales. Particularmente en nuestra comunidad, existe un rechazo a hablar sobre nuestra salud mental tanto en lo público como en lo privado. Es por ello que mayo es el mes de la conciencia de la salud mental. A lo largo de este mes diversas organizaciones realizan eventos para sensibilizar a la población sobre la importancia de prestar atención a nuestra salud mental y emocional. Al igual que con las enfermedades físicas, no todas las afecciones mentales son permanentes ni incapacitan a quien la sufre. Muchas de ellas son pasajeras y parte de las enfermedades crónicas pueden ser controlables si se atienden adecuadamente. Por el contrario, una enfermedad desatendida, puede agravarse a niveles que afecten la vida personal, laboral y la economía de quien la padece. De acuerdo a datos de la CDC, en Estados Unidos, uno de cada cinco adultos sufre de una enfermedad mental, y la mayoría de nosotros padeceremos en algún momento de nuestra vida alguna de ellas. La comunidad hispana tiene las mismas probabilidades de sufrirlas, pero tiene un alto índice de falta de atención especializada. Muchas veces por no tener acceso a servicios en español. The Hispanic community is equally likely to suffer from them, but has a high rate of lack of specialized care. Many times due to not having access to services in Spanish. Currently, there are various organizations and health centers that provide mental health care in Spanish in the states of Kansas and Missouri. anuel “Manny” Hernandez, 89 of Kansas City, MO passed away on May 1, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be from 9:30 -11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 5 at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, 1310 Westport Road, Kansas City, MO. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00. Manuel will be buried at Forest Hill/Calvary Cemetery, 6901 Troost Ave., Kansas City, MO. Manuel was born on December 13, 1932 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Pablo and Antonina (Mandujano) Hernandez. Manuel and Micaela (Mickey) were married on November 29, 1957. Manuel was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Frank Hernandez; sisters, Augustina Ramirez, Lupe Rodriguez, Angie Hernandez, Mary Vera, Lydia Morales, Margaret Armendariz, and Juanita Vasquez. He has one surviving sister, Lila Casperson. Manuel leaves behind his children, Paul (Rose Ann), Manuel (Debbie), Joe (Karen), and Esperanza Fierro (Roman). His grandchildren are Matthew Hernandez, Clara Hernandez, Dr. Manuel Hernandez III (Ashly), Michael Hernandez (Erika), Christopher Hernandez, Anthony Hernandez (Jessica), Quinn Hernandez, Samuel Hernandez, Xavier Hernandez, Elissa Johnson (Zachary), Gabriel Fierro, and Roman Fierro. Manuel was blessed with 9 great-grandchildren, Michael, Olivia, Adalyn, Damian, Sofia, Kayden, Julian, Ronan and Reyna. Manuel loved nothing more than to be surrounded by his family on any occasion, but especially holidays and boxing matches. He enjoyed jazz music and watching old westerns on television. Taking care of his family and helping others was always a priority. He was a member of the U.C.M. (Union Cultural Mexicana) Group and served in the Armed Forces (Army) as a Corporal in the Korean War. Words cannot express how much he was loved and will be missed. He was one of the great ones! une 8 1920 – april 17, 2022 Enriqueta “Queta”, was born in Salina Cruz, J Oaxaca – Mexico. She was one of seven children of

don Leovigildo Ramirez and doña Julieta Soria. Her family moved to Mexico City when she and her twin sister were thirteen years old. Queta graduated from secretarial school and worked as executive secretary for petroleos mexicanos “Pemex” (mexico’s national petroleum industry company) until her retirement. Queta enjoyed travelling. She visited several countries in South America and Europe, as well as several cities in the U.S. She enjoyed walking and practiced yoga for a good number of years. She visited her daughter and family every year in the U.S. until she decided to obtain her permanent residence. She lived in Shawnee, Kansas, for eleven years until her passing on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022 surrounded by her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. She was the only survivor of her siblings. Queta is survived by her daughter Gloria and sonin-law Joe Bessenbacher; her grandchildren: Anna Firicano (Brian), Joseph Bessenbacher, Jr.; and greatgrandchildren: Josephine Bessebacher, Emma Firicano, and Charles Bessenbacher; as well as many nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren. Queta will be remembered for her strength, common sense, and compassion, her will to pursue her goals in life, her sense of humor, and her love and dedication to her family. She was a catholic with a strong faith in god. Religious services will take place on Monday, May 9, 2022 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church (5501 Monticello Road, Shawnee, KS 66226) at 10:30 a.m. Rosary followed by a funeral mass at 11 a.m. Enriqueta’s final resting place will be in Mexico City, Mexico.

En Kansas City el Sr Socorro y la Sra. Yolanda Velo (+) le dieron un 2do hogar, por lo cual decidió quedarse a vivir en ésta Ciudad. Años más tarde conoció a su primera esposa con la cuál procreó a su primera hija Lucy Diaz, dándole ella cuatro nietos (Maya, Víctor, Nico y Eva). Conoció el amor de Dios por los Cursillos de Cristiandad, era activo en la Iglesia y solidario con la gente ayudando en lo que estuviera al alcance de sus posibilidades. Dedicó su vida a trabajar en Galamet Inc. disfrutaba su trabajo al máximo. En 1989 conoció a su actual esposa Lucy Conteras de Diaz. Contrajeron matrimonio en 1993, creando una familia de tres hijos y una nieta; Jaime Iván, Johan y Jaelyn Naiby (+), Naiby Melina. Disfrutó su vida al máximo, agradecía a Dios por la oportunidad de realizar sus sueños, su ultimo bautizar a su niñita (su nieta) la cual era su alegría y la personita que le cambiaría la vida a él y a su esposa Lucy. Amaba a su familia. Su Chinita, como le decía de cariño a su esposa era todo para él, solía decirle: “Eres el Tesoro escondido que Dios me tenía preparado para formar una bella familia”. En el 2017 Jaime decidió dejar su trabajo en Galamet, Inc. para dedicarse por completo a su familia y para apoyar a su esposa en su tienda llamada “Decoraciones Lucy”. aelyn Naiby Diaz, falleció inesperadamente el 19 de abril del 2022 a la edad de 19 años. JJaelyn nació el 1 de junio, 2002 en Kansas City,

Missouri. Atendió a la escuela Topping Elementary, donde aprendió a escribir y a leer. En Maple Park Middle School, paso sus primeros años de adolescente. Continuando su educación en Winnetonka High School, donde descubrió algunos de sus talentos, como el de maquillar, el buen vestir y estar a la moda. El gusto por resaltar se belleza continuó, tomo un curso para poner extensiones de pestañas, su mamá y amigas eran sus modelos. Su cabello era rizado, pero ella prefería llevarlo lizo y bien estilizado. Actualmente trabajaba en el restaurante Chipotle, uno de sus lugres favoritos para comer, al igual que el Chick-fil-A donde gustaba llegar después del trabajo y ordenar su sándwich favorito. “Jeylina” como le decía su abuelita, era amante y defensora de los animales, deseaba que no hubiese en el mundo perros y gatos vagabundos. Solía cargar o pasear en carriola a su perro favorito “Chucky” y llevarlo con ella a todos lados. “Jeyla” llamada de cariño, disfrutaba escuchar música, en especial, música mexicana, le gustaba cantar a pulmón sus canciones favoritas, especialmente “Las Nieves de Enero”. Bailaba con ritmo, lo mismo fuera Banda, Wapangos o Cumbias, “Jeyla” era el alma de las fiestas. Ella ha dejado hoy una lucecita hermosa y brillante, su pequeña hija Naiby Melina de 19 meses de edad, será la viva imagen de su mamá y la alegría de la casa, pues nos dará el placer de seguir viendo su linda sonrisa reflejada en su pequeña hija. La luz y el amor de Jaelyn seguirá brillando en este mundo, en especial para su mamá, Luz Diaz, sus hermanos, Jaime Iván y Johan Diaz, su abuelita María Luisa Contreras “Jo Marry” como ella le decía, su abuelita Raquel Diaz, tías, tíos, primas, primos, al igual que todos los amigos y las personas que de alguna manera la recordaran.
