Ofició su última Misa el 21 de septiembre de 2018 en la Iglesia Católica del Sagrado Corazón, una parte de la Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de la Unidad. Durante su regreso, Garavito celebró una serie de Misas como parte del retiro familiar del Sagrado Corazón. Otro evento en el que participó fue una asamblea el 15 de julio, organizada por el grupo de oración de la iglesia, que también contó con el Santo Rosario. Además, el domingo (17 de julio), un grupo de oración se reunió en Hickory Hills Park en Overland Park, Kansas, como celebración oficial de bienvenida a Garavito. La celebración del mediodía reunió a fieles feligreses, que juntos brindaron calidez al evento.

he Rev. Oscar Garavito made a return trip over the weekend (July 15-17) to T the Kansas City area.

As Dos Mundos reported, Garavito spent five years of missionary service in Kansas City, Kansas, before returning to his native Colombia. He officiated his last Mass on Sept. 21, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church – a part of Our Lady of Unity Parish. During his return, Garavito celebrated a series of Masses as part of Sacred Heart’s family retreat. Another event in which he participated was a July 15 assembly, organized by the church’s prayer group, that also featured the Holy Rosary. In addition, on Sunday (July 17), a prayer group gathered at Hickory Hills Park in Overland Park, Kansas, as an official welcoming celebration for Garavito. The noontime celebration brought together faithful parishioners, who weathered the heat for the event.

Causes of child hepatitis outbreak investigated

Since October 2021, 1,000-plus cases of severe hepatitis in previously healthy children have been reported in 35 countries. First reported in the United Kingdom, the strain affects ages 10 and younger, World Health Organization (WHO) statistics indicate. WHO statistics also show that, as of July 8, 22 people had died overall and there were 435 cases in the Americas. Moreover, a WHO study of 100 patients who likely had hepatitis revealed that “the most commonly reported symptoms” included jaundice, abdominal pains and nausea/vomiting. Back home, the heartbroken families who scrimped and borrowed to pay for the journey and a more hopeful future are now scraping together money to bury their dead. Migrant trafficking networks of smugglers known as coyotes have grown from a small-scale industry to big business with ties to drug gangs. We’re all potential victims of the smugglers. They’re the leading source from Mexico into the U.S. of unauthorized immigrants and the illegal drugs, fentanyl, crystal methamphetamine (meth) and fentanyl-laced meth. Mexican soldiers uncovered 50 meth labs in the first two weeks in June, CBS News reported. The illicit drugs are making their way across the 48 contiguous states. Just last week, Iowa reported having seized 28,000 lethal doses of fentanyl in the past six months. There’s no limit to the evil being done by the nefarious coyotes and drug smugglers. They must face the harshest possible punishment. It won’t bring back the dead, but it may help to deter human- and drug-trafficking.

ood news for immigrants! USCIS removed the rule that prevented TPS holders from adjusting their status to lawful permanent resident (LPR or Green Card). Previously, eligibility for resident status required legal entry into the country. From now on, TPS holders will qualify to adjust their status to a permanent resident through a family petition filed by their U.S. spouse or children over the age of 21. To be eligible, the TPS holder must first apply for a travel permit, also known as Advance Parole. There is no need to explain the reason for the trip. Once this permit is approved, the immigrant must travel out of the country, return, and be inspected and admitted by a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) port of entry. TPS permits are valid until December of this year, but we expect them to be extended again through re-registration. Travel Permit for DACA Holders Individuals with DACA may also apply forAdvance Parole. They must offer explanations as to why they wish to travel. So far, three explanations can be accepted: work reasons, school reasons, or humanitarian

Richard was born in Kansas City, MO to John Compos and Modest (Rivas) Compos on April 11, 1950. Growing up, Richard can be described as someone who loved his mom, but also enjoyed having fun at the expense of trouble. He went to Karnes Elementary then continued the rest of his education at Northeast Middle and Northeast Senior. He graduated high school in 1968. After high school, he served in the United States Army for 14 months during the Vietnam War. He was proud of his service. In 1972, his only child, Monica, was born and brought so much joy into his life. They shared many laughs, swim days,

and dances. She had a daughter, Aysia, then the duo became a trio. After Monica’s unfortunate passing in 2011, he took in Aysia and became a wonderful father all over again. He and Aysia spent their time taking naps, making up songs, and building memories. One of his fondest memories was playing baseball for the Azteca’s in the 70s and 80s with his dad, John, being his coach and some attractive ladies cheering him on. He retired in 2010 from the U.S Postal Service after being a mail handler for 27 years. He spent his retirement watching all kinds of sports, getting haircuts with cousins, and meeting friends to catch up. He loved groovin’ to music, ridin’ motorcycles, and most importantly, eatin’ tacos (topped with hot jalapeno chile, of course!) He was preceded in death by his parents, John Compos and Modest (Rivas) Compos; his brother, John Edward (Johnny Boy) Compos; and his daughter, Monica Pendleton. Richard loved a lot of pieces of life – the good and the bad. He cared for his friends and family deeply. He was dependable, honest, and loving. He had a contagious laugh and a warm embrace. He is survived by his sister, Janet Lapadino; his granddaughter, Aysia Pendleton; his nieces and nephews, Tina, Angela, Antoinette, John Joe, and Mary Rose; many great-nieces and nephews, Ondrea, Ricky, Lila, Brianna, Manya, Coraline, Sophia, Vincent Jr., Tianna, Nataliya, and Ophelia; and many, many cousins and friends.

Hubo un trato respetuoso entre los dos y no se acrecentaron las tensiones, que estaban presentes (además de no ir a la cumbre de Los Ángeles, AMLO fue uno de los últimos mandatarios en felicitar a Biden por su victoria electoral y poco antes de su visita, el presidente mexicano sugirió desmontar la Estatua de la Libertad). La relación asimétrica entre Estados Unidos y México —la mayor economía del mundo y la decimoquinta, que batalla ahora con el duro impacto de la pandemia— está permanentemente plagada de problemas y desacuerdos. La historia pesa y se resiente: México perdió la mitad de su territorio en 1848 tras la invasión estadounidense. Y esa frontera —joven y porosa—, como lo dijo el escritor Carlos Fuentes, nunca ha dejado de ser una “cicatriz que sangra”. Pero al margen de sus posibles desavenencias y una relación que no parece la más calurosa, AMLO y Biden tienen cosas importantes en común: son líderes proinmigrantes; ninguno de ellos puede, aunque tengan voluntad política, controlar lo que está pasando en la frontera, y, por último, los dos saben que ambos países están entrelazados por su geografía y sus circunstancias. AMLO, por su parte, tuvo un recibimiento calurosísimo por parte de paisanos mexicanos que lo siguieron en todas sus actividades en Washington. Desde su balcón en el hotel Lombardy en la capital estadounidense, el presidente mexicano le gritó a un grupo de inmigrantes que se les “quiere muchísimo” y resaltó el envío masivo de remesas a México. ¿Cómo no quererlos si están ayudando a la golpeada economía mexicana? En los primeros cuatro meses de este año los mexicanos enviaron a su país más de 17.000 millones de dólares (un aumento del 17 por ciento respecto al mismo

migratorias los han desbordado. No pueden con ellas. Y es muy probable que tampoco podrán hacerlo en el futuro próximo. El hambre, la falta de oportunidades y la violencia y el crimen son mucho más fuertes que el riesgo de cruzar el río Bravo, el desierto de Arizona o las montañas de California. Algunos datos. En el mes de mayo cruzaron ilegalmente más de 239.000 personas de México hacia Estados Unidos. Más que los 234.000 que cruzaron en abril. Son cifras sin precedentes. Ahora multipliquen cualquier de esas cifras por 12 y verán lo que se espera este año. Ni Biden ni AMLO pueden controlar esos flujos migratorios. Son mucho más grandes y poderosos que cualquier muro, que cualquier patrulla fronteriza o guardia nacional, que cualquier ley y que cualquier pacto de cooperación. Tenemos, finalmente, que reconocerlo: la realidad en la frontera es abrumadora. Millones de personas seguirán cruzando la frontera, con y sin documentos. Controlar totalmente la migración no es realista. Lo que es posible es tratar de hacerla más manejable y, con esperanza, más compasiva y generosa. Eso lo saben AMLO y Biden y por eso se necesitan mutuamente. Luego de la reunión en la Casa Blanca, le pregunté a Juan González —uno de los principales asesores sobre América Latina para el presidente Biden dentro del Consejo Nacional de Seguridad— cómo describiría la relación entre México y Estados Unidos, y me contestó: “Es necesaria y es una de las relaciones más importantes que nosotros tenemos, sin importar el tema”. No dijo amistosa, maravillosa o ejemplar. Dijo “necesaria”. Eso es. México y Estados Unidos se necesitan. Biden y AMLO se necesitan. Como dos vecinos que saben que ninguno se va a mudar de casa. Por eso posaron muy alegres en esas fotos. No tienen más remedio que llevarse bien. Este año será desafiante para los dos y no está mal que ambos recuerden que esa relación entre ambas naciones es crucial e inevitable. Cuando terminó su reunión con Biden, un grupo de reporteros internacionales estábamos esperando al presidente López Obrador a las afueras de la Oficina Oval. Teníamos muchas preguntas para AMLO pero quizás el presidente sabía que no iba a ser el mismo formato amable que el de sus conferencias matutinas en México, las Mañaneras. Don’t hesitate to seek support from friends, family or a mental health professional, if you need it. *Find new hobbies: Parents spend most of their time focused on their children’s needs. Thus, when they leave for college, it’s a great time to reconnect with your own identity. One way to do so is to find a hobby that’ll free you from all the negative burdens of your routines. Think about what you’ve always wanted to try but didn’t have time to do when your son or daughter was at home. It could be a sport or an artistic project.
