El torneo de la MLS 2010 esta por comenzar el próximo 27 de marzo y sera el último año que juega en el Community America Ballpark, donde han jugado los últimos dos años.

El cuerpo técnico de los Wizards cambio a mediados de la temporada pasada cuando Curt Onalfo fue despedido y su lugar fue tomado por el legendario defensa Peter Vermes quien en ese entonces era el director deportivo del equipo de sus amores. Durante la pretemporada Vermes trabajó duro en armar el equipo que mandaría este ano, la primera adquisición fue la llegada de Octavio Zambrano como asistente técnico, Octavio Zambrano es uno de los entrenadores mas exitosos de la MLS y cuenta con un curriculum lleno de éxitos, Zambrano traerá experiencia y

Trás el frustrado intento por hacer un estadio de fútbol en el lugar del famoso Bannister Mall en Kansas City Missouri, los Wizards fueron recibidos con los brazos abiertos en el area de Legends en el estado de Kansas, donde han participado en los últimos 2 años. El permiso para la construcción de un estadio específico para practicar el deporte del fútbol fue aprobado el pasado mes de enero. Ilustracion del nuevo estadio

Los Kansas City Wizards contrataron al ecuatoriano Octavio Zambrano como asistente técnico de Peter Vermes para la temporada 2010. Zambrano es oriundo de Guayaquil Ecuador y llegó a los Estados Unidos en 1980 como jugador, se hizo entrenador en 1990 y dirigio a los Angeles Galaxy y a Nueva York, durante ese tiempo Zambrano logró el segundo porcentaje más ganador de la MLS. Zambrano a trabajado para la FIFA y ha dirigido en Europa, aquí les presentamos una entrevista que nos dió en exclusiva para Zona Wizards y la Gran D 1340. Escobar quiere triunfar con los Wizards Por Adolfo Cortes

A sus 22 años, el defensa colombiano Pablo Andrés Escobar-uno de los refuerzos de los Wizards para esta temporada -tiene claro su objetivo y es triunfar en Kansas City. “Jugué dos años en la categoría juvenil del América, y luego, don Hernando Ángel me vio por ahí y me llevó a Boca Juniors, después me mandó para el Deportes Quindio y de ahí pase al Deportivo. Pero, estar en la MLS hoy en día es una oportunidad que muchos desean y no vamos a desaprovecharla porque nuestra meta es triunfar con los Wizards”, dice el jugador proveniente del Deportivo Cali.

“Amigos colombianos como Freddy Montero o Juan Pablo Ángel me han dado referencias de este futbol y se, que no será fácil, pero venimos para aportar y estamos trabajando fuerte para estar en el once titular”, agrega Escobar quien deberá enfrentar a ambos delanteros cuando Wizards enfrente a Seattle y Nueva York respectivamente. Cuestionado sobre sus características no duda un instante en responder: “Soy rápido, fuerte y voy bien arriba. Me gusta salir con el balón controlado sin lanzar pelotazos”, destaca Escobar quien reconoce que durante la pretemporada de los Wizards pudo comprobar la

fuerte competencia que existe para lograr la titularidad. ¿Cuál es tu obstáculo a vencer? “Por el momento es el idioma ya que no hablo ingles, pero Roger Espinoza ha sido mi respaldo y me ayuda mucho en este proceso de adaptación”. Escobar sabe del apoyo de los aficionados latinos al equipo y espera tener el respaldo de todos en esta temporada. “Tenemos un buen equipo y esperamos darle mucha alegría a nuestra afición siendo una meta inicial regresar a los playoffs”, dice a manera de despedida.
