WHATS NEW

HOPPIPOLA

When the name of the bar literally translates to ‘hopping into puddles’ where playing with your food and drinks is thoroughly encouraged, you must foresee hoppi times ahead. Hoppipola is an all-day bar and bonhomie which is a breath of fresh air and a perfect escape from the charade that is one’s life. The space is massive yet cozy enough for one to feel personal. Pristine white walls, glass stained doors, a clustered wall of colorful birdhouses, gliders hanging off the ceiling and specks of quirks all around; that pretty much sums up the first look and the feel of hoppipola. With a hoard of board games and the hoppi favorite live-sized Jenga, there is never a dull moment at hoppipola. Upon close inspection, the tables are all actually blackboards, so while one waits for food and mulls over drinks, one may play noughts and crosses and dots away to glory or put the artist in them to work and simply doodle all over the table. Hoppipola is not your quintessential bar. Serving an extensive bar menu, Hoppipola has a poison for everyone. They have an array of drinks from IMFL to foreign liquor classics to contemporaries. Hoppipola though takes pride in its signature cocktail concoctions, refreshing, innovative cocktails with just the right amount of flavor and kick are just what one needs to set the mood right. Served in quirky barware, drinking at Hoppipola is a delight. Hoppipola serves interesting pub-grub for all kinds of appetites and palettes. Some little munchies to pair with your drinks like the Totopos (nachos) and the humming bread (Hummus with assorted breads); then come starters of a more filling variety. The regulars will swear by the likes of Aila Aioli (marinated chicken skewers), lambada (cheddar filled lamb patty with pita), the OMG (cheese stuffed crispy friend button mushrooms) and so much more. For those seeking a complete meal, there are pastas, pizzas and some interesting mains that will make for a sumptuous dinner. We would highly recommend the Thai curry. BLANC GLACE

All new café located amidst the busiest wok atmosphere is a bliss in itself. When you enter, you will be greeted with a spacious dining area, with Moroccan tiles and bright yellow chairs. The place undivided has sections where you can choose to sit. We love the outdoors, but they have indoors, as well as a backyard seating option too. They are a café cum bakery and a visit to their baking section assured us that everything was made in-house and fresh. A chance to savor fresh out of oven cookies just made our day. Their desert section is not to be missed and to die for. From muffins to cake slice, tarts to pastries, mousse to brownies the list is endless. We began our meal with fresh fruit juice and smoothie. Keeping in mind their location, which is right at the heart of Raheja Mindspace, where people are straining and starving, the owner has kept in mind the healthy count and has included some healthy choice like dishes with brown rice, fresh fruits based juice and pure smoothies. We tried the cheese garlic bread and onto the main attraction we had Pizza which was topped with olives, basil, mushrooms and tomatoes. The pasta was really flavorsome. In fact, both dishes were an absolute delight. The place is more just too pretty and the ambiance overall is great and so is the food, starting with live music soon this place should be on your list to visit soon. Dastakhwan-ul-Mulq - ITC Kakatiya

ITC Kakatiya is hosting Dastakhwan-ul-Mulq under the aegis of Kitchens of India – ‘Royal Repasts’ inspired by the lavish feasts savored by the kings of Hyderabad. Their master chefs at ITC Kakatiya had embarked on a research spree sourcing and culling out recipes amongst a treasure trove of culinary repertoire amongst the gourmands within the city. Chef Paul was kind enough to tell us all about the extensive research on the right spices and how they have gone out of their way to include some local gourmands to get the authentic flavor just right. Dastakhwan-ul-Mulq, as the name suggests, is lavish and by all means authentic Hyderabadi cuisine form the era of Nizams. While we waited for the feast to begin, we were served ‘Pudina Nimbu paani’ in khullad. We were in for a real treat with dishes like scrumptiously amusing ‘Nizami murgh’, ‘Talla gosht’, ‘Galouti Kebab’, ‘Dakhni Murgh’, ‘Keema Kaleji Soya’ and of course the world famous ‘Haleem’. We also tried the ‘Talla gosht’ and the mouth melting ‘Galouti Kebabs’. The ‘Dakhni Murg’ with naan was outstanding. In desserts, there were options like ‘Sheer Korma’, ‘Shahi Tukda’ and ‘Double ka Meetha’. The food festival which was in ode to the holy month of Ramzaan was designed in a way that Hyderabadis could enjoy an extended dose of festive food, and truly, we took pleasure in it the most. Tell us about your life growing up. I’ve grown up in Hyderabad. My parents are originally from Calcutta, and it’s like my second home. I’m the only child and have been the youngest amongst my friends too; which always lead to me being the pampered one. Since my parents shifted to a new city, I didn’t grow up around cousins and family and this made me to visit Calcutta very often. I love animals and I have always had squirrels, birds, dogs, turtles, guinea pig as pets. After my 12th grade, I decided to follow my mother’s footsteps and become a hairstylist. I went to Vidal Sassoon in London soon after and did a course in hairstyling for a year followed by 3 months of short course in makeup and hairstyling from London school of Beauty. During my course at Vidal, I got an opportunity to work backstage 22 AUGUST, 2016 - TULIP

at London Fashion Week and graduated; I topped my class. I came back soon after and interned at Hakim’s Aalim in Mumbai. It added to my work experience as I got to try the not-so-classic ways of working with hair and explored my creative side there. I did a few short courses as well at Tony and Guy in Hong Kong and Saks in London. After spending an amazing 6 months in Bombay, I came back to work for my mother and helped her run our “Salon Toppers”. How does a busy day in your life look like? I’m a hairstylist and I’ve been styling hair for 9 years now. But since the past 5 years I’ve been baking desserts and discovered this passion when I baked my first batch of chocolate chip cookies. It’s been 2 years since I took it up professionally and started selling

desserts from home. My company is called Fat Kitchen and I will open my own bakery one day and take it up as a full time job. Tell us more about Fat kitchen. I love sweets and owed all my baby weight to excessive indulgence in desserts. I started baking because I decided I needed to get fit and for that I had to give up sweets. It helped curb my sweet cravings. I used to bake for dinners at home, neighbors, friend’s birthdays and friends in general. I always got a great response from whoever tried my desserts and was encouraged to do this professionally. My mother agreed to this as long as it didn’t take away much from my main job which is hairstyling. I came out with a name for it when i was approached by my brother to set up a dessert counter at Olive Bistro for their

LIFESTYLE days that work doesn’t seem too busy I make plans with my best friend and meet her for coffee or an early dinner. With baking, since I’m doing it from home my timings are extremely flexible and I don’t really have opening or closing hours to worry about. So, work gets very relaxing then. One thing you love most about Hyderabad One of the many things that I like about Hyderabad is that the people here are very friendly and welcoming.

Rapid fire Your favorite cuisine: I love Italian, Chinese and Sindhi in that order

Anniversary celebration. I also interned at the bakery at Olive Bistro for a month to get an idea of what it’s like to work in a commercial kitchen and that helped me a lot. I’m a self taught baker and my desserts look very rustic and homely. Personally, I have always liked my desserts to be very rich in flavor and super sized. That becomes a trademark for the desserts that I bake as well. I bake monster size cookies as i like calling them, brownies, cakes, pies, tarts, loaf cakes, cheese cake. I experiment with new desserts and keep adding to my list. Fat Kitchen offers desserts that are full of flavor made with high quality ingredients and have a very rustic homely look to it. Comfort food at its best! How has the journey been so far? The journey so far has been very rewarding and very exciting. I have mostly got amazing feedback from whoever has ordered and tried my desserts. I learn something every time I bake something and I try to keep pushing myself to get better. My family and friends have been my biggest support and motivated me through this entire journey and I know they are going to be by my side in the future as well. I can’t wait to start my own bakery and make Fat Kitchen a well recognized brand. My biggest critic and fan is my Mother, I take her advice and approval for everything I bake. What are other things that you are really passionate about in life? Currently Baking is my passion and I’m pursuing it and loving every bit of it. When I’m not working, I usually catch up with my friends over coffee or a movie. My friends are very accommodating and know I get off on Tuesdays from work. So, we plan lunches, dinners and shopping mostly on that day. I watch a lot of movies on my laptop too. I love spending time with amigo, we love driving around the city. I sketch sometimes. If I’m not with my friends and my mother isn’t too busy, I spend my day with her. What do you do in your leisure time if you are not working? Since I run my salon, I end up meeting a lot of people at work and catch up with them there. On

Your go-to style statement: Sunglasses, they can elevate any look as long as you wear them outdoors! What cheers you up immediately? Music and coffee Best advice you have ever received? ‘To never shy away from work no matter how big or small the job may be’ by my Mother. Next holiday destination you want to travel to? I would love to travel the World. But for now, I want to go back to Amritsar to Golden Temple. I usually go there for my birthday every year but it’s been 3 years since my last visit. So, it is Amritsar before anything else. 5 things you don’t leave home without? Mobile, charger, car keys, and handbag and green tea sachets. Your favorite place to chill in the city? Starbucks. Share one of your fan moments: I once had someone come up to me and say I had your brownies at the Dessert fest at olive and want to tell you how amazing it was. He had spotted me, a year after the event. Where do you imagine yourself in next 5 years? 5 years from now i imagine myself being in love and the proud owner of my bakery Fat Kitchen, desserts and more. How would you describe a woman of today? A woman of today is not afraid to be who she wants to be.

F riends Before Anything

There is no stronger bond than the bond between siblings. Siblings are our first best friends. They are the ones we grow up with and have spent the most time with over our lives. They probably know the most about you and your true personality too. Siblings are the ones that you can be yourself around and not care about them judging you, because in the end they are still related to you and cannot do anything about how crazy you really are. They simply have to live with it. I strongly believe that it is important to maintain a relationship with siblings. It is inevitable that you will grow apart, as you start your life and own family but it is vital that people remain in contact.

COVER STORY

What sparked your interest in fashion? I was always interested in creative projects ever since I was a child. It first started off as an interest in sketching to many other DIY projects. My undergrad happened to be in Fashion because I realised it was a versatile subject and the skills I acquire from design school can be applied to designing many products.

Does your approach differ when designing menswear compared to women’s wear? I infact follow the same design theory when I’m designing for both men and women. One of the major influencing factors for my style is that I worked as a men’s wear designer. It’s in menswear that you find subtle details that make all the difference.

What made you take fashion more seriously and make a career out of it? After finishing my undergrad in Fashion from NIFT, I went onto an AAS degree from Parsons School of Design in NYC. New York as a city really inspired me, the technical skills that my undergrad taught me was put into action. Street style was another inspiring element in my journey, seeing people express themselves through what they wear. I wanted to make products that someone would love to own, and it is always fascinating to see how they wear it.

What are you fascinated by at the moment and how does it feed into your work? Right now like always I’m fascinated by memorabilia. I love old photographs, heirloom textiles or vintage furniture. There is something so beautiful about how things age, there is always a feeling attached to it and I like exploring that element.

How has your work evolved since you began your own label? I think over time my design aesthetic has become more refined. I was never one for over designing but I’ve understood the beauty in simplicity and that remains my design focus. Tell us something about your latest collection and your inspiration behind it? My F/W 16 collection ‘Astronaut Likes tea’ is inspired by contrasting elements. It is inspired by the highly dexterous astronaut gear contrasted with delicate detailing from vintage India circe 1940’s. Exploring handmade techniques and bringing a narrative where the past meets the present, keeping my love for vintage alive. A simple relatable collection with fun quirks here and there. What is your personal style fix? My personal style fix is dressing in monotone, It’s simple yet powerful. Are there any types of clothing that you avoid wearing? I avoid wearing anything that is too much in trend. I like wearing classic, statement pieces.

What is the biggest lesson that you have learned since you started your own label? I think with all the risks involved with running a business I’ve learnt to stay strong. To strongly believe in my work and be stubbornly ambitious. What would you like to achieve before the end of the year? I’d like to explore other mediums and increase my accessories line. I also want to work towards building a wider clientele, reaching out to more cities in the world. Do you have any rules you live by? No I don’t believe in making rules for myself, I do as I please. How do you create a work life balance? Well I’m not quite sure if I have my work and life balanced as yet, for now it’s more work and less play and I honestly enjoy it this way. Who would be the perfect muse for Archana Rao label? Anybody with a strong sense of individuality, who doesn’t follow fashion blindly and brings in a bit of their personality into everything she wears. One fashion trend you are totally obsessing over right now? Personally I will always obsess over the colour black. It’s the only trend that will remain.

Think Frill

By Parang Mehta & Hiten Dhoot “The idea was to leverage the subscription model to be part of the product discovery process. We wanted to transform e-commerce from a flat, two-dimensional world by giving it texture and reality. Think Frill is the future of product discovery and shopping online. Our business model is not simply about the monthly box, but about using the box to lead consumers to buy full-size products on our online shop. We launched our First Subscription box named “La Coffer” which is a period subscription box. It comes in three variants namely: Duchess Coffer, Princess Coffer & Queen Coffer. Starting at just Rs 249/ Month it is the most affordable subscription box in the country. Our subscribers can pick and choose up to 20 sanitary supplies depending on their flow and also choose a delivery date of their box according to their menstrual cycle. La Coffer is a monthly box of feminine hygiene products, chocolate, candies, high end make up/beauty products and a unique gift every month, delivered in time to coincide with a woman’s cycle. We aim to get people to realize it is okay to talk about menstruation—it’s natural and nothing to be ashamed of. We need to learn more about how it impacts our bodies, our emotions and most importantly our health. Think Frill is not just about giving women the opportunity to try new products at home and delivering sanitary supplies on a schedule. We are selling an experience; Women love receiving a package at their doorstep at that time of the month and not knowing exactly what was inside. The boxes are beautifully packaged, so women feel they are receiving a gift at their doorstep every month. People, on an average, are looking for a box with a value of about double of what they have paid. It helps them to justify the risk of spending money when they don’t exactly know what is in the box. All our subscription boxes are valued more than double the amount paid by our subscribers. We also have an online beauty/grooming store which is one of a kind in the Indian online beauty/grooming space. We feature luxury brands like Victoria’s Secret, Bath & Body Works, Bobbi Brown etc. WHAT’S NEXT: We have recently launched Flash, which is a monthly flash sale on luxury beauty and grooming products where products are discounted up to 70% for a limited time. Indie Eco Candels By Payal Tyagi

“I have been making candles for around 15 years and have used many kinds of waxes. After a lot of research, I learnt of the toxins produced by burning regular paraffin wax candles. So, now our candles are handcrafted with natural vegetable wax, an environmentally friendly resource. Natural wax candles, unlike regular candles, burn without emitting harmful toxins. We infuse the finest fragrances and essential oils into our luxury candles and our wicks are made of cotton. We have had a great response so far. We have participated in many events to make people aware of our brand. Indie Eco Candles started in the summer of 2012 with a small team of 2 amazing women who we trained to hand pour the beautiful candles we now make. The idea was to have soul in our candles for them to stand out and eventually become what they are now. For the intent to take form, I needed the power of thoughtful hands. Indie Eco had grown into an all women organization. I believe in the passionate women who work close to me. I also believe that the success of the brand lies in the victories that we have made at the local level. We ensure convenient working hours, good pays and training programs for our ladies. We are deeply involved in enhancing the lives of our team and also provide essential mentoring for their children. I believe that educating and empowering them has made a huge difference to the choices that they make today. If my women are happy and content, Indie Eco will always make the most amazing candles. We are quite pleasantly surprised to see that our online purchases have increased substantially over the last two years. Now, we have our own website and we are learning to promote it digitally. What’s next: We design new fragrances every year. We also come out with special festive season candles for diwali and christmas. This year, we are quite excited to bring out our new line of reed diffusers. Find them on: www.indieecocandles.com Fb: indieecocandles. Instagram @indie_eco_candles Twitter #indieecocandles

he city, most commonly known as the city of Nizams has got its patronage of arts from the Mughals and the Nizams. This blending was a result of the geographic location of the region and the variety of historical dynasties that ruled the city across different periods. The rich heritage and culture has given us archeological spots with reminiscing art – places like Charminar, Chowmahalla Palace to modernized art galleries, Hyderabad is full of artists and their work. This article is a special ode to artists and art lovers of our city. So, take your time off and visit your nearest art gallery to enjoy the work of some of the greatest and most talented artists in the city. Golkonda Fort

This archeological treasure is situated 11km west from the city. It is a property of qutub shahi dynasty and is famous for the artistic blend of its construction and detailing. Bala Hissar Gate is the main entrance to the fort located on the eastern side. It has a pointed arch bordered by rows of scroll work. The spandrels have yalis and decorated roundels. The area above the door has peacocks with ornate tails flanking an ornamental arched niche. The granite block lintel below has sculpted yalis flanking a disc. The design of peacocks and lions is a fantastic blend between arts. This place is a must visit for anyone who would like to have a dose of history & art and has a love for detailing.

Old Hill Fort Palace

The old hill fort palace is a prospective art gallery now and is occasionally remembered by the city of Hyderabad as a faint link to the Nizam era. To mark the occasion of completing a century, it was temporarily converted into an art space for most of November by a local art gallery in collaboration with Telengana Tourism, and found a lot of favor for its gloomy ambience that actually complemented the art work.

Tarab Khan ARTIST What comes to your mind when someone says art? Art is unbounded by physicality and realism. It is a journey that oscillates between the world of conscious and unconscious; where the childlike imagination sails through the pixilated waves of time. How do you take criticism on your work? Criticism is a practice of judging the merits and faults. Art is not subjugated always by technical brilliance; rather it is more about your mass of imaginations and unusual angles. The view point differs and perception varies from a critic to even a curious child. What art do you most identify with? Abstract expressionism and Surrealism. What is your favorite art work? The art illustrations by Salvador Dali for the ‘Alice in the wonderland’ are my favorite work of Art. As a surrealist artist, Dali promoted the idea of absurdity and the role of unconscious in his creations. What are you trying to communicate with your work? I love to tell stories and my paintings are a chaotic inflation of my dream sequence. I chase mysteries that intrigue me. I believe there are two ways to view this world - either we can see it through the intricate web of our thinking and be defined by the experiences or by touching everything through the kaleidoscope of dream, incoherence and imagination. These manifestations are profoundly rooted with symbolic influences in my paintings and its evolutionary patterns. tarab.khan01@gmail.com Blog: www.tarabkhan.wordpress.com TULIP - AUGUST, 2016 39

ARTIST How do you take criticism on your work? I think critics are your biggest fans and I personally think the day you wooed those critics with your artwork; you’ve succeeded as an artist. I don’t let any sort of criticism get to me and I also don’t let all the appreciation take me to cloud nine. However, in my opinion, constructive criticism helps any amateur to truly grow as an artist. What art display you most identify with? I started off with charcoal sketches and I still love using charcoal in my work; it never gets old. In the recent years, I experimented with graphite, pastels, watercolor pencils, pastel pencils and other kinds of stuff. I relate my genre of art with realism. Your favorite art work? It has to be the lip drawing (the one with the cherry). I was fascinated with how it turned out to be. took me almost 4 complete days to finish that sketch and the outcome speaks for itself (I guess). Something you want to peruse and didn’t yet. I have always wanted to establish an art school and teach kids. That would be my life goal. I want to teach what I learnt.

Afzal Minhaaj,

Hip-Hop Producer Afzal Minhaaj is an Indian rapper and Music Producer from Hyderabad. He is known for his blend of Indian instruments on the Hip-Hop drum patterns. Afzal is currently studying sound in Panache School of Sound and plans on taking up music as a full-time profession. His last single ‘Love?’ a full piano solo, was highly appreciated for its musicality and freshness. The 23 year old record producer is up for working with upcoming artistes if they can keep up with his perfectionism. Afzal Minhaaj has been into hip-hop music from a young age of 13. He wanted to become a rapper, but at that point of time, it didn’t really seem to be very promising as a career. But things took a turn when he turned 17; a friend with similar interests showed him the process behind music production, which got him really fascinated. He has been producing music ever since. Mishgahn Omer

– Tennis Player Currently studying in 11th grade at the prestigious Nasr girls’ school, Mishi laughs at how people never get her name right. Tennis has been as important to her as much as school has. Let’s see what she has to say- “I have been playing tennis from the age of four. For me there was no inspiration as such; growing up I was a very naughty and energetic child hence to control that my parents thought it would be best to put me in a vigorous activity throughout the day. There was a tennis academy not too far from home so before I knew it I was signed up there. Later on, I started loving the sport and excelling in it therefore I was given the opportunity to go for tournaments and that is how it all unraveled. It has been over 12 years since I first held a tennis racquet. My greatest moment by far would have to be when I held the position of state no.1 in all three categories, which were under 14, under 16 and under 18 all at the same time, then of course when I had won my first title at the age of eight it was a huge deal for me back then. I do not believe in plans I just go with the flow, I will keep practicing to get better and keep playing matches all I can do at the moment is believe in what I do.”

KJ Vaishnavi

– Artist Recently finishing her 12th from Bhavans, Vaishnavi tells us her small yet inspiring story with art. “My school, DAV, being a lot into cultural activities gave me the opportunity to realize that art was something I’ve been always passionate about. I’ve tried my share with a lot of other activities such as music or sports but none of them were my cup of tea. The only art competition I’ve entered was an interschool competition when I was in my 9th grade and I bagged the second prize there. That wouldn’t seem to be a big thing in general but to me, it was the beginning. My art was appreciated and encouraged. All of us need to be encouraged at some point and that was it for me. Art has been an escape for me whenever I needed one and I don’t want it to be something full-time. I’ll be joining bharatiya vidya peeth for BBA.LLB this year and I plan to practice more of digital and acrylic art parallel. Nevertheless, I don’t plan to use being busy with studies as an excuse to get rusty at art. I started painting as 3 year old or something sketching for her dad’s cubicle and I’ve gotten to a point where I’ve held my first official art stalls at an event held by THC. There were many people who bought my sketches from time to time after my first display two years ago at a Christmas meet of the Hyderabad cosplay club and I am always thankful to the encouragement and support they’ve given. I’ve tried all types of art and I’m most comfortable with abstract. I do a lot of paintings of anime and comic characters which are what I sell most of the time. My inspiration to paint would be to make myself involved in this artistic version of reality I’m able to create. Art is fun even if you’re bad at it. It only gets better and better once you practice. Many of my modern art pieces are pictorial depictions of the little writing I do which make them a lot more interesting for me to work on and display.”

Mahima Mahi

– Zumba Instructor/Passionate dancer While doing her BCom in Computer science at Ethanes College, 2nd year, Mahima also takes up Zumba classes at film nagar. She tells us how she fell in love with dance and what became of it. “I started my dance journey as a choreographer 5 years back. I loved dancing as a kid and having an amazing mom who was a dancer back in her time i had a major support to follow my passion. Starting from summer camps, I slowly got a few sangeet contracts and then I started taking up cooperate offices. With the never ending love for dance, I ended up being a dance instructor in a few dance studios. Later I was also a part of dance crew in ram step where I trained myself further. But a dream to be an instructor where I would be known all over Hyderabad and be able to perform in front of a huge crowd was all I ever dreamed about. Out of the struggle for 4 years I had met the most inspiring person Vijaya Tupurani. When I went for her Zumba session she told my mom I see little vijaya in her and she was the one to push me to do my certification as a zumba instructor post which, I went back to her where she trained me and polished my skills perfectly. From there, I started my journey as a zumba instructor . A dream I always wanted to follow was when I took a session at marathons co-orporates and various other places. It was an unbelievable journey and the love for dancing I had, made my dream come true at the age of 19. I was all I ever wanted to be. It was a huge turn in my life to switch from a dancing life to being a fitness instructor. It was difficult but nothing was impossible. I have also been certified by many other artists of various styles like dance hall, whacking, belly dancing, contemporary and a couple more. All my major support and inspection was my mom and Vijaya mam. There is always a woman behind ever successful person. I was lucky to have two moms’ who never let me give up on my dream. But my journey did have its ups and downs. I was told being a girl I can never survive in this world, being an instructor, but I would never give up. I always told them I will try as hard as I can. Murchhana Roychoudary

– The UCube Project Murchhana is a 19 year old girl, who is enthusiastic about good conversations and good movies. She came up with this idea of educating children while she was studying in school and brought forth the Ucube project. Here she is to tell us her story: “Remember Horlicks Wizkids? I was representing Hyderabad at the South Asian finals in 2014 and that was when I started the U cube project. Along with my friends, I put together this project which aimed to raise awareness against child sexual abuse. ‘U cube’ stands for the three words- unseen, unheard, untouched. Our team put together some material for conducting workshops and we approached schools all over the city to let us conduct the workshop for primary students. Apart from that, we would perform street plays during parent-teacher meets. The idea was to break the taboo attached to the word sexual abuse in our society. Our aim was to make children comfortable enough to speak up about issues like this. When I first started this project, help poured in from all sides. My classmates, my school teachers, my childhood friends and family, everyone showered immense support. But, two people who particularly stood out are my mentors Ms anuradha and Ganesh Nallari. They guided me throughout the initial phase of the project. All of that was when I was in school. Apart from working against child sexual abuse, we also visit orphanages whenever time permits. It does get challenging at times to balance college work and maintain this project, but we try our best to do justice in both the areas. Even though we have reached our short term objectives, we still have a long way to go. Right now, I am working on creating a curriculum to introduce a more student friendly approach towards sex education on topics like puberty, abuse, consent, helpline.”

Dylan Sharma – MUNer

Having studied at Geetanjali till 10th and Meridian for 11th and 12th, Dylan has quite a few stories to share with us about his MUNing journey. “I’ve been MUNing for 4 years now. I attended my first one in the 9th grade when i delegated for Egypt at the International Prakriti MUN. MUNing Isn’t Debating! Working on the presumption that a good debater is a good MUNer will be an assured loss. MUNing doesn’t call for aggressive arguments; it isn’t a back and forth assertion. It’s a platform for the exchange of ideas and opinions. It is a platform wherein young minds get to take on the role of something very big- a UN Delegate of a nation. It gives us the opportunity to discuss and come up with ideas that could possibly help solve global issues. It basically lets us think, talk and act like responsible grown-ups, something that, on a daily basis, is called “cheeky attitude”, “long tongue” etc. Apart from these opportunities, MUNs teach us to express our opinion, interact with others, listen to and agree with their point of view without any clouded judgment, and to write research papers/draft resolutions (something that will truly help us in the future). And then of course, one of the most important lessons is to socialize with people from other schools, states or even countries. MUNs bring all of us together so much so that, when one MUNer sees another on the streets, feelings of familiarity and mutual respect develop. I have no fancy story when it comes to my first MUN. My school received an invite and they picked me to go. However, I continued to MUN because I had developed a keen interest in foreign policies and global issues. The very experience of learning about a new country and it’s take on various issues, and the multitude of diplomatic responses and solutions possible is truly life changing. I have learnt to be more open minded, responsible when it comes to taking some big decisions, have learnt to interact more and speak in front of large audiences quite confidently. But, most important of all, I have learnt to listen more, talk less.”

WELLNESS

A Review on Fat Grafting If you have considered undergoing a facial rejuvenation procedure but don’t think you’re ready for a face lift or other form of facial plastic surgery, you still have a wonderful option of fat injections that is non invasive and less expensive. This injection method of facial fat sculpting, also called microlipoinjection, can restore attractive contours to your cheeks, chin, and undereye area, and also add volume to your lips. Dr. D Vijayvardhan clears all your speculations about it. What Is Microlipoinjection/Autologous Fat Transfer? Microlipoinjection, also called autologous fat transfer, is a procedure in which an individual’s own body fat is used to plump up sunken or emaciated areas of the face or to add volume where desired. The word “autologous” simply refers to the use of one’s own tissues or fat. Because the patient’s own fat is used, autologous fat transfer requires three steps. The first step involves the gentle liposuction of some excess fat from unwanted areas (such as that found in the jowls, abdomen, thighs, or buttocks). The second step involves the isolation and cleansing of the fat cells. The third and final step involves the injection of the fat cells into the targeted facial areas (i.e., the fat cell transplantation). Who are the Ideal Fat Transfer Candidates? Facial fat injections can eliminate aspects of facial “wear and tear” that often appear with age, such as smile lines, frown lines, marionette lines (running from the sides of the mouth down to the chin), wrinkles and furrows, and hollows in the face (such as under the eyes or under the cheekbones). Lips that have lost volume may also be treated through fat transfer as can scars or depressions in the face from scars (such as those from acne). Individuals with one or more of these conditions may be good candidates for autologous fat transfer. Difference between Fat Injections and other dermal fillers? The most important difference between autologous fat injection and other types of dermal fillers is that fat transfer doesn’t introduce a foreign material into the body. This aspect of fat transfer is particularly

beneficial for people who are allergic or sensitive to products such as collagen or Hylaform. Another factor that sets facial fat injection apart from other dermal fillers is the length of time that the volume enhancement provided by a fat transfer lasts. Generally, the effects of fat injection can last from several months to two years or more. In some cases, the effects last indefinitely. By contrast, dermal fillers that contain hyaluronic acid, such as Restylane, break down and disappear over the course of several months, making additional treatments necessary. What are its risks and benefits? Facial fat sculpting offers several major benefits. In addition to correcting problems of the aging face, fat from unwanted area is removed permanently. Autologous fat transfer is natural and the material used is not from an animal, or a cadaver, or a synthetic product. It’s also versatile; the fat can be used for many facial imperfections, including scars and depressions in the skin. The effects of facial fat sculpting are very long-lasting — facial fat injections last significantly longer than cosmetic injectables such as collagen, Restylane, and Juvéderm and facial fat sculpting is safe, since there are no allergic reactions to worry about, because the fat transplantation is from your own body. Microlipoinjection is also an excellent complement to facial resurfacing procedures, such as microdermabrasion and chemical peels, and to Botox and Lipolytics on the chin. The risks of fat transfer/fat injection are few and minimal. Initial Soreness and swelling are possible, but they’re not commonly experienced. Contact : Dr. D. VijayVardhan at face and teeth. All Day Long

Cravings - the only way you can beat them is by fulfilling them and the only way you can fulfill them is when your taste buds approve the hype created in your mind. There is no predictability. They just come in your mind out of nowhere, torture you and move your concentration from what you are doing. On a personal front, I know it can get really bad, and even worse when what you need is not available or tastes bad and not up to the mark. So, here we are to your rescue; bringing to you the top favorite restaurants that are open all day long and have the best of food to offer- rest assured they have all been tried and tested.

DELI 9 If you are looking forward to a place that serves food round the clock and curbs your hunger pangs all day long, then Deli9 is the place for you! It is available at 4 different locations in the city so that one cannot miss out on it at all. While the ambience reminds us of a café on the streets of Paris, the walls filled with precise graffiti and lot of confectionary stuff on its display, Deli9 is more than that. They have a menu which is packed with continental, desserts and some desi food items. Being the regular and loyal clients to Deli9, we have tasted almost everything on its menu and by now we surely know the ideal picks for you. To start off with from the appetizers, we ordered the ‘Silly Cheese Potato Skins’ prepared with cheddar cheese, sour cream & green onions that are baked to crisp. We tried the ‘Fish and Chips’ which was enticing enough to our taste buds. Crispy - golden outside and tender juicy from the inside; it was served with French fries and tartar sauce which is a blend of mayonnaise, minced onions, seasoned with salt and pepper. Out of the varied salad options we could not miss out on our standard favorite, ‘Crispy Chicken Salad’ which is tangy with seasoning of vegetables and herbs. It is crunchy as the name says. If you are seriously looking to have one of the best lasagnas in the city, Deli 9 should fall in your list. The cape ground ‘Chicken Lasagna’ is served piping hot with alternate layers of minced chicken cooked with mozzarella and parmesan baked with perfection and drizzled with pesto. The lasagna has a very Indian taste to it. Don’t overlook to accompany yourself with some mock tails like ‘Fresh Fruit Frioska’ which is a burst of seasonal fruits in virgin mojito & a fine thick smoothie – ‘Belgium Chocolate Creamy Cooler’. We ended our happy course with ‘Meyer Lemon Meringue Pie’; savor this if you want a break from the typical chocolate dessert. And if you are an ardent chocolate lover, then you can have the exotic ‘Chocolate Cherry Torte’. Location: Ground Floor Lifestyle building, My Home Tycoon, Kundanbagh, Begumpet, PH:66777727

Synonymous to the word ‘Great Italian’, FSM as it is known gives you a tiny Italy on your table. While you enter FSM, it is an open space with an indoor and outdoor seating with wooden elements all around the place. It has a very fascinating menu where they state to take 20 minutes for the food preparation and claim that love and good food can’t be rushed. They are doing something really unusual from the other restaurants in the city; they modify the dish according to your dietary requirements. The endeavor reflects that all they want to do is make their customers joyful. Talking about the food, FSM has explored right with miles of travel to get the authenticity to your table. They source most of their ingredients from Italy and other parts of Europe, from top grade farm fresh produce. First come first, we went in for some refreshing drinks like ‘Freshly Brewed Iced Tea’ in the flavor Black current, the popular ‘Eye of the Tiger’ which is a combination of Orange Juice, mint and cinnamon and Zappalicious prepared with cranberry, guava juice and a dash of mint and lime, which is most preferred by all the visitors. Like every Italian meal kick starts with some Garlic Bread, we have the ‘Crostini Con pollo E Farmaggio’, as hard as it gets to pronounce the dish is uncomplicated with roast chicken mozzarella that is served on toast slices of Italian bread. This is very Antipasti in their menu. In starters, we ordered the ‘Insalata Ver Di Pollo’ which was vegetarian that mixed up Mushrooms with sun dried tomato, garlic, oil, spring onions and balsamic vinegar. They were light on the tummy and easy to munch on. There is no Italian without Pizza; a thin crust delight is always a necessity here. We opted for ‘Pizza Con Pollo’, which was a simple mozzarella, roasted chicken and Napoli sauce enjoyment. Hands down one of the unsurpassed dish in FSM, you can’t leave without trying the Crespelle, which makes us go ‘Ooh la la’! Out of a crazy plethora of choices, we tasted the ‘Crespelle Di Pollo’ where the crepes were so creamy and are loaded with chicken, mozzarella, Besciamella sauce, mix of cream and Napoli. Make it a happy ending by relishing on ‘The Bomb’ which will blow you away with an explosion of chocolate and freezing ice-cream to go with. VIA MILANO Straight forward Italian is what Via Milano gives you; it is a very refined yet effortless place to be at especially during the lunch hours. Not much to find in its interiors, Via Milano is easy on its décor. Flipping through its minimal menu pages, it keeps hold of only a few Italian dishes for you and does not dishearten either. Let’s first take pleasure on the ‘Cream of Mushroom Chicken soup’ which was particularly remarkable to start off with. The taste was just so right and its proportion serves well for a person to fill up easily. The ‘Chicken Nachos’ were full of cheese topped with vegetables that made the nachos a tad bit soggy for us to savor. ‘White Chicken Ravioli’ was the next pick which was succulent with minced chicken within the ravioli, seasoned with herbs on top. If you like something light then ‘English Veracruz with Cottage Cheese and herb rice’, this was one of the palatable dishes on our list. The rice was so lip-smacking and the cottage cheese acted like a perfect blend to it. Further, we spot the ‘Mascarpone Stuffed Chicken with Green Pepper sauce & Turned Vegetables’, a huge chicken delicacy which is stuffed and topped with this special sauce. Everything was apt in the dish, but we wished the chicken could have been softer to gobble on. Accommodating the dessert at the conclusion of our feast, the ‘White and dark chocolate lasagna’ grabbed our attention; it had enormous layers of white and dark chocolate with cherry as the icing on the pastry piece. KAFICKO

European, Thai, Continental and American, name it and Kaficko has it. White and Blue subtle surroundings, it gives you a very morning feel where you can go for a pleasant breakfast and eat your heart out with their omelets, sausages and Illy coffee. Kaficko not only does the breakfast accurate but all day long it gives you a glut of different cuisines and diverse dishes. It is difficult to find Sushi in the city? Fret no more. They lately introduced a special menu for Sushi and Teppaniyaki, so you can get a taste of Japan as well. Coming to what they are superlative with what they do, they actually have an all day long menu to give you treats that you can take a plunge in throughout the day. Perplexed over where to start with, we chose ‘skinned Potato’, which a russet potato, unsalted butter and chef’s special was dressing, our taste buds shouted a big ‘Hooray’ to it. We also had the ‘Watermelon juice’ and ‘Passion fruit iced tea’ to go along with our meal. ‘Moroccan Chicken’ which was tossed with Harissa Sauce was tender, luscious and hot. We had the ‘Thai Pineapple Fried rice’ which was something different from what we habitually have. It did not appeal our taste much though. Sugariness overflows with their astounding ‘Brownie in a jar’ with many flavors, they are cute to look and equally yummy to have it. Filled with cream, while you dig in there is overload of cake below. Location: Above Good Earth, Road 12, Banjara Hills, Ph: 23398000

OHRI’S RUCI & IDONI BISTRO Ruci & idoni is a contemporary restaurant with a Euro-influenced menu, and one of the rare places in Hyderabad that serves all day breakfast. They are an all day bistro serving Italian, European, and Continental. This bistro restaurant offers more than just food, there is live music, special menus and much more to make your dining experience absolutely splendid. The interiors are a mix of black and red and have a very contemporary vibe to it. You may grab a seat on the comfortable leather sofas or vista window side seat. Our favorite drink here is undoubtedly the ‘Iced Lemonade’ available in flavors like pink, raw mango and blue currant which is in a huge jar filling for 2. They have an interesting array of drinks menu which are revamped often, of course leaving the classic favorites aside. We got to try the ‘Cucumber and Mint Ice Tea’ which was zesty. The pizzas here are known for its thin crust, but their Italian menu offer much more than that. We tried the ‘Harvest Vegetable’ pizza which comes with toppings of cherry tomatoes roasted with garlic, basil, peppers, spinach, broccoli and caramelized onions. The ‘Garlic Spinach Dip’ that we tried was blissful and, you got to trust us when we say we haven’t had a dish like this ever before. Spinach and cream cheese with nutmeg and garlic, blended with a rich dip served with crispy nachos and fresh fries, oozes with nothing but amusing creamy flavors. We really had to try hard to move on to our next dish. ‘Chicken Piri Piri’ is yet another favorite, if spicy is your thing then order it without a 54 AUGUST, 2016 - TULIP

CUISINE second thought. Grilled chicken served with sautéed veggies and butter mashed potato with spicy fiery red south African piri piri sauce tipped all over it is a utter satisfaction. Also try their ‘Three Cheese Chicken’ which as the name suggest is three cheese and spinach stuffed chicken, served with seasonal vegetables, buttered mash and chicken au jus. For those who love sea food you may try ‘Wasabi Prawns’ prawns skewers marinated in a Japanese special wasabi marinated and grilled to perfection, served with wasabi is as substantial and flawless it could be. For desserts, you have to try their classic best ‘Awful Awful’which is awfully good and is available in variations like Brownie, Nutella and Caramel. They also have ‘Tutti Fruti’ which is a favorite of many, you may also try ‘Fudge Brownie in a Jar’ which is chocolate mousse, brownie crumbs, rich fudge and ice cream in an old fashion jar, a complete treat for your taste buds. UNITED KITCHENS OF INDIA UKI is by far one of the favorite restaurants in city, if you are still asking why? Then let’s just take you to a gastronomic journey to our time at UKI. The restaurant that is spread across ETC - the coffee shop, Dawn to Dusk - the lounge, the indoors fine-dine area, and the outdoors kabanas, have diverse menu featuring delicacies from six Indian states. You may order anything from their comprehensive menu list that offer varieties form – Andhra, Bengal, Tamilnadu, Kerala, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Tangra. We would definitely suggest you to try Peethiwali tikki – a rajasthani delicacy packed with rich filing of hing and moong dal and spiced with pepper, green chilies and coriander followed by Bhutteyan da kebab which has a combination of sweet corns, tangy yoghurt, and crispy semolina worked brilliantly well. Malai Paneer Roll which by far, our absolute favorite, the paneer is mouth melting and by far the most unusual paneer dish. Laal Maas, a fiery lamb curry from Rajasthan goes perfectly well with Missi Rotis. We would also highly recommend Murgh Angara – the smoked tandoori chicken with heavy spices. The best part about food here is well apart from the food itself. It is the way they present it, the cutlery they use, it adds quirk and in some cases authenticity to the dish. The food here is a delight to your eyes as much as it is to your taste buds. Coming to the drinks, they have kept the level of comprehensive even with it. Apart from the new drinks that are regularly added and revamped their options that will leave you perplexed. But we are going to share some tried and tested drinks that you need to have on your ‘to- try’ list. First goes the Virgin Mojito, it is an omnipresent drink that’s available everywhere from fast food chains to high end pubs. But, UKI puts an interesting twist on this familiar drink by the addition of Kachha Aam. There are a variety of Masala sodas on offer with either sprite or Fanta as the base. The presentation of each mock tail is unique and clearly a lot of thought has been put into them. The Samabar rice served in the end was the ultimate showstopper. I’ve travelled long distances just to relish good sambar rice and this place had completely taken me by surprise. Served along with a Wada for veg version and Kodi roast for non-veg version, the sambar rice served here is a definite winner. Location: Road 45, Jubilee Hills. Ph: 33165208

“I’m a person who needs lot of entertainment in my life or I end up getting bored in a blink of an eye. That is one of the major reasons why photography has stuck by me because it challenges me day in and day out. I’ve been an amateur singer and I was a tattoo artist, ‘was’ because photography & travel has kept me really busy. Travelling is my new hobby, It inspires me, teaches me about new cultures, people, food, and trust me there is lot to learn from Mother Nature as well.” What sort of work do you specialize in? Over the past 6 years I have tried my hands on almost everything! But then I had to choose my path and I wanted to be more focused about what I’m doing. Fashion & experimental shoots keeps me alive. It really makes me happy and keeps me going. Travel photography has become a part of my life as I travel often and I take it as an opportunity to learn. If there is knowledge coming from any channel, I grasp it right away. Did you get any professional training/course in photography? When I started photography there was no body in Hyderabad to really teach and hardly any great institutes. I wasn’t great with funds either so I couldn’t afford to go to Pune or Mumbai for a professional course in photography. So, surprisingly youtube has been my mentor & I have met few great youtubers. I still follow their videos learn anything & everything I need. Obviously I won’t think of myself to be that great with technical terms and names because for that theoretical/ conceptual knowledge is really important but then I have found my ways. How long have you been a photographer? 6 years back I got my first DSLR, but professionally I would say I have been in this line for 4 years now. What or who got you started in photography? Well now that is a story! My uncle got a DSLR for himself thinking he would take up photography as a hobby but then being a busy person, he couldn’t succeed in doing so. That is how I got my hands on camera for the first time and I visited him everyday just to use it and click pictures. Days passed and I fell in love with the camera and clicking pictures even more. I went up to my dad and asked him if he could buy me camera but dad just had one thing to say - “NO”. That is how I ended up making a handmade tattoo machine with the help of my friend and tattooed lot of people so that I could collect some money. In 3 months I gave all of that money to my dad and asked if we could now pick up a camera. That is when he saw the passion in me and asked me to keep that money and he ended up buying me my first DSLR. How would you describe your style? I love shooting series because my style is to create Stories with everything I shoot. What type of cameras do you shoot with? I shoot with Full Frame cameras a7s, a7r II, D800e soon plan to pick up a Medium Format. Well right after cameras it has to be lenses but my Favourite are my Lights. Where would be your dream destination assignment? Shooting for the biggest of the brands would be great but dream is to shoot for Playboy someday. A photographer who inspires you? Von wong, he’s the man, from Canada. 62 AUGUST, 2016 - TULIP

Tel us about the photography workshops and photo walks that you organise. When I started I didn’t have anybody to guide me and it was a real trouble for me and also for others like me. So, few of my friends and I, have started these photo walks & workshops around the city. Sometimes they are for free and sometimes we charge but we try and guide them, teach them new things. The whole idea is to do a lot of photography workshop and online workshops as well to equip people and give them what we couldn’t get back then when we started our journeys as photographers. “With a mind that dreams of places beautiful, feet that don’t get tired of moving around, I’m a traveller by heart! And I believe that to create beautiful pictures, one needs to move. Move a meter away from your subject, or a ten thousand miles closer, but move. Besides that, I suppose it’s safe to say to I’m a food connoisseur, lover of music, all things adventurous and most things colourful!” What sort of work do you specialize in? My favourite forms of photography will always be fashion and travel. I have been told a lot of times that I bring out the best side in an individual when I photograph them. I have also started shooting commercially as a freelancer; and trying a lot of other genres – weddings, food, interiors and architecture. Did you get any professional training/course in photography? No, I haven’t taken any training yet. What or who got you started in photography? I started photography 3 years back. I was always interested in taking photographs of people and every place I travelled to. As Google caught up, I learnt about the technicalities, got better gear - time after time and one fine day I was asked to do a paid shoot for a wedding. I took it up as a challenge, resulting in happy clients! There has been no stopping ever since. How would you describe your style? Colourful and of fine art. What is your favourite photography accessory, other than your camera? I shoot with DSLR’s majorly and talking about accessory it has to be the Soft Box. What gives you ideas and inspires you to create great images? The want to keep making something beautiful, unique to see and that makes a difference is what keeps me going. And ideas are just something that come with what’s happening in life. I’m very impromptu with them. Where would be your dream destination assignment? Shooting landscapes and/or fashion in Europe. A photographer who inspires you? I can’t name just one. Marcin Tyszka, Chris Burkard, Steve McCurry and Ravi Vora Connect: aneestasneem.photography@gmail.com

Kalyan Yasaswi “I have been a commercial photographer for about six years now. I started my career towards the end of my college, worked with a few online and offline magazines as their editorial photographer for about a year in Hyderabad and later shifted to Mumbai to pursue fashion photography. I have been working with a team in Mumbai for five years now.” What sort of work do you specialize in? I specialise in portraiture and street style travel photography. I also have an extensive portfolio in weddings. Did you get any professional training/course in photography? I have done my BA in Mass Communication from Loyola Academy in Hyderabad. After that I decided to learn on the field and assisted a fashion photographer in Mumbai for some time. How long have you been a photographer? Photography was never really a hobby for me. I did even my final year internship for my course as a photographer for a website. In total I have been a commercial photographer for more than 6 years now. What or who got you started in photography? I studied Mass Communication and as part of the curriculum we had television and film production. I always tried to be the cameraman or DOP (Director of Photography) for all the projects we did in college. During one of the external examinations one of the jury members watching a project asked me if I ever tried photography since my framing was very to the point. I never thought of it deliberately before that point. Soon I started to do research and learn more. I even took up a 365 days photo project to keep me committed and learn regularly. I got my first full time job at the end of that project. How would you describe your style? I mostly use natural light for my portrait work or travel. Apart from that I try to keep all the colours neutral and frames very simple and nononsense. So I would like to describe my style as minimalistic natural light portraiture. What type of cameras do you shoot with?

64 AUGUST, 2016 - TULIP

I honestly use whatever is available. I initially started with a borrowed bridge camera form a friend, then used Sony, switched to Nikon, then to Canon and now back to another Nikon. So I pretty much shoot with whatever full frame camera is available. Also I have a 5-in-1 light reflector. Since I always try to use natural light, a reflector is my best friend. I love how it can bend and shape light if used correctly. What gives you ideas and inspires you to create great images? My inspiration and ideas mostly come from paintings. I have always felt a child-like wonder whenever I sat at art museum or just observed a painting. The idea of filling a blank frame with form, shapes, colours and eventually meaning is just magic for me. I have a set of amazing artists and painters that I always go to for inspiration to create great images. Where would be your dream destination assignment? My dream destination for an assignment would be Iceland, between May and August. When the sunlight is always there and nothingness for as far as our eyes can see. A photographer who inspires you? I have a lot of photographers who inspire me, but if there is someone who influenced me the most it is the late Prabuddha Dasgupta. From the first time I saw his images and even now when I see one, they make me feel something. There is a haunting peace in them that I can’t explain. Is there anybody or anything you would love to photograph? If I was asked this question just a few months ago I would have said Mohammed Ali. I have always wanted to photograph The Matterhorn, a mountain of the Alps. Share some candid memories behind the scenes that you cherish the most? A couple of months ago I visited U.S.A and the day after I landed my uncle decided to take me on a short trip to Florida. This was my first time in the USA and also only the second day after I landed. That morning we decided to walk up to a nearby coffee shop to get our morning coffee and as I entered I saw this very pretty young woman with orange hair who was the barista there. It took me a lot of small talk and 25 minutes to gather the courage to ask her if she was okay with posing for a photo for me. She agreed readily as it was a weekday and there was not much rush in the coffee shop. I ran back to the hotel room to get my camera and came back to the coffee shop 5 minutes later to do a small impromptu portrait shoot between her orders. Now in retrospect I cannot imagine I did something like that and asked a random good looking person in real life to do an impromptu portrait shoot. Contact details: www.kalyanyasaswi.com

Lamborghini Ride

with Naseer Khan

Naseer is born and brought up in Hyderabad. He is a friendly person, good thinker, flexible to work in any shift and of course he is extremely passionate about cars or we say ‘Sports Cars’. He has a very simple lifestyle. “A car is more versatile than a bike. You can drive it in all kinds of weather. The bike is better on gas. You are safer in a car. You can wear a seatbelt and you have metal around you. I personally like Cars”, he says. He owns a Lamborghini Huracan and his dream car is Bugatti Veyron. The first car he ever drove was his Dad’s car in which he learnt how to drive - An ‘Ambassador’. About Lamborghini Huracan: It has thermonuclear road presence; the horizon seems to shrivel as it approaches. There’s nothing normal about how it looks, how it sounds or how it moves down the road. When teenagers sleep, this is the car in their dreams. The vehicle was unveiled at the March 2014 Geneva Motor Show and deliveries began in the second quarter of 2014. The Huracán is comparable to the McLaren 650S and the Ferrari 458 Speciale. The Huracán maintains the naturally aspirated Audi/Lamborghini V10 engine from the Gallardo. To ensure its balance and performance, the car is mid-engined. The V10 has both direct fuel injection and multipoint fuel injection. It combines the benefits of both of these systems; it is the first time this combination is used in a V10. To increase its efficiency the Huracán’s engine also includes a start-stop system. Nothing on Earth can prepare you for the eyeball-melting performance of Lamborghini’s “entry-level” supercar, the Huracán. The angular design is severe yet elegant; the stealth fighter–like cockpit is as luxurious as it is intense. Nestled behind the cockpit is a 5.2-liter V-10 with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic (sorry, no manual transmission is offered); with rear-wheel drive, it makes 571 hp and with all-wheel drive it produces 602. A convertible version (Spyder) is also available.

‘Yami Gautam Broke My Marriage’: Shweta Rohira

Pulkit Samrat and Shweta Rohira’s separation has been in the news for quite some time. recently shweta decided to go public with the facts and blamed Yami Gautam for the separation. She was quoted saying, “Yes, Yami broke my marriage. I have finally come out of my illusion; so many people cannot lie. Everything was fine between us until one person came in between.” Shweta also revealed that she and Pulkit got married five years ago but held a wedding ceremony in Goa in 2014! “Since we were spending a lot of time together, he felt we should get married. It was a proper wedding in Mumbai, but a private affair,” she said. “There were certain differences with his family, so he wanted me to feel secure. I got to know him when i went to interview him for a website i was writing for. We stayed in touch and spent a lot of time together. It was a fairytale romance.” When asked about what went wrong she said, “i even observed the karvachauth fast in October, although he had told me a month ago that he did not want me in his life anymore. Later, I realized I was leading a pretentious life.” she added, “Why would i want to reconcile with a person who has stooped so low, a person who cannot sit across the table and tell me the reasons?”

Shiney Ahuja has filed a legal notice on Great Grand Masti’s producers, Ekta Kapoor and Ashok Thakeria, as well as director Indra Kumar for naming a maid’s character in the film after him.

According to reports, the notice was served by a Chandigarh-based legal firm, which calls for immediate removal of the name Shiney from the film. Model and former Bigg Boss contestant Sonali Raut plays the maid in the film and according to Shiney’s legal team; it appears to be a take on a 2009 rape case where the Shiney’s maid leveled rape charges against him. His lawyers believe that with the appeal hearing before the High Court in progress, using his name in a derogatory manner would obstruct justice.

Taylor Swift to Press CRIMINAL Charges AgainstKanye West?!

As you’ve probably heard by now, the proverbial sh-t hit the fan in the ongoing feud between Taylor Swift and Kanye West last night. It all started months ago when Kanye rapped about having sex with Taylor and took credit for her career in his now-infamous track “Famous.” Shortly thereafter, the 26-year-old pop superstar publicly went off on what she described as Kanye’s “misogynistic” lyrics. West’s wife, Kim Kardashian, shot back, claiming that Taylor knew about the song and approved the lyrics in advance. The topic was broached on last night’s episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, as you may have heard 20 times already. Perhaps anticipating the social media fan war that would follow the episode, Kim dropped the ultimate truth bomb.

ENTERTAINMENT Kaththilantodu Shooting Stopped!

Well, the damage isn’t enough. Chiranjeevi’s meticulous 150th film tentatively titled ‘Kaththilantodu’ is facing quintals of criticism right from inception. this is definitely shocking to hear from our confidential film sources that first schedule of the movie wrapped up few days back hasn’t got anything bright news for all of us. In fact, the schedule isn’t completed. Its Chiranjeevi and V V Vinayak decided to stop the shooting in middle by curtailing this schedule nearly 15 days before. In other terms, we can say ‘Kaththilantodu’ shooting is halted in a sudden flash for now to re-work on script. Same reports suggest on, Chiranjeevi is quite unhappy with comedy episodes shot on Ali and himself. Though, ‘Kathi’ remake idea sounded interesting earlier but problems began to creep in when the actual production mode is on. Paruchuri brothers and Sai Madhav Burra are re-analyzing the screenplay graph. Any amendments thought necessary after keener observation, if satisfies Chiranjeevi will only re-start the shooting. Till then, mega star has so much time to guide Ramcharan in ‘Dhruva’ in this time break. Let’s wait for official word from team.

Mahesh may not get chance with HER!

Mahesh’s fans know that DeepikaPadukone is Super Star’s favourite actress. The man revealed this and Deepika too is aware of the admiration she got from Mahesh. In fact several movie makers tried to bring the combination of the two on screen however, for several reasons, none could materialize. Meanwhile, it is said that Deepika was initially considered for PuriJagannadh’s movie with Mahesh, Pokiri, but again after so much dilemma makers went with Ileana. Deepika too missed a chance to pair up with Super Star and Mahesh too missed a chance to work with his favourite actress. Now she is a Hollywood lady and it would cost a bomb even if Puri wants to rope in the lady for Jana GanaMana!

s since Nor th Pak marks 50 year k Korea’s World Cup shoc PYONGYANG, North Korea (AP) It has been five decades since Pak Du Ik scored the winning goal in North Korea’s shocking upset of Italy to reach the quarterfinals at the 1966 World Cup, a match that remains the country’s most memorable in football folklore. A group of players returned to the stadium in Middlesbrough in 2002 to celebrate again the win over Italy, wearing red jerseys and scarves and receiving rapturous cheers from the crowd. Pak attended that ceremony, but had a quieter reflection closer to home for the golden jubilee. While teenage players recall that North Korea beat Italy in ‘66, some are vague on the details. Jang KyongIl, coach of the national under-14 women’s team, is among those who want to ensure the highlights live on. “Still, up until now, for us Korean sportspeople here, Pak Du Ik is a real sports hero,” he said.

Expect several athletes to reach Olympics finals: Anju Bobby George

A total of 36 Indian athletes in the 121-member contingent have qualified for the Rio Games, including the 4x400 metres men’s relay team that recently set a new national record on their way to earning qualification for the Olympics. Anju, who clinched a bronze at the 2003 World Championships, asserted that she has high hopes of the 4x400m relay teams in both men’s and women’s categories as well as Dutee Chand, who became the first from the country to qualify for the women’s 100 metre event in 36 years. Anju also had high praise for sprinter Dutee Chand. Banned by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) in 2014 for suspected hyperandrogenism (hirsuitism), the Orissa girl has staged a spirited comeback and has become the first Indian woman athlete to qualify for the Olympics 100m sprint since the legendary P.T. Usha at the 1980 Moscow Olympics. Her reasoning was that the country’s current coaching pattern being what it is, it would take at least two Olympic cycles for Indian athletes to hope to be among the medals at the Games. Anju created history by becoming the first Indian to take a medal at the world level when she clinched a bronze at the 2003 World Championships. TULIP - AUGUST, 2016 69

MOVIES Movie Reviews

The Legend of Tarzan Earlier this year, The Jungle Book was remade with most of the songs removed. Now it looks like it’s been remade again with all the songs removed and also the fun, excitement and charm. This is a ropey and dull rehashing of Edgar Rice Burroughs’s creation, with Alexander Skarsgård giving us his rock-hard abs and an equally immobile performance in the lead role. Things get off to an admittedly interesting start as Belgian troops move through the Congo, their colonial possession, in the late 19th century, with Christoph Waltz’s creepy functionary Léon Rom at their head (a version of the historical figure who was supposedly the model for Conrad’s Mr Kurtz). There are plenty of flashbacks that show Tarzan’s former existence as a younger man in the jungle: sleek, semi-clothed, fully shaven. It looks like a two-hour Neutrogena commercial.

Sultan There’s a good side to Sultan, and there’s a bad one too. While the story is just a retelling of many tales told before on celluloid, there is an honesty with which this movie drives its emotions and its intensity. Once the filmmaking formula does its job, the subtle moments of truthfulness and some decent dialogue hit a sweeping slam. In terms of ingenuity and freshness, Sultan is average fare, but when it comes down to the strength of certain ideas at work, it does manage to keep a tight hold on its audience. The story deals with Sultan’s and Arfa’s sacrifices and ambitions. They’re both wrestlers and they both want to succeed at all costs. Sultan transforms from happy-golucky lover boy to serious athlete all because he wants to prove his worth to Arfa and woo her. Sultan is an effort to add to that thought, trying to add grit and realism to Salman’s brand of cinema. When it comes to entertainment, Sultan packs a solid punch.

SELFIE RAJA Allari Naresh was given the title ‘Minimum Guarantee Hero’ several years ago. Right so. However, it wasn’t only because every film of his was a sure shot profitable venture for producers, but also because the viewers were guaranteed a paisa vasool experience each time. Agreed that the comedy was crass several times, but at least the entertainment was at its zenith. Here’s a film that might sound interesting at the outset. Amongst his last few films, nothing was noteworthy except James Bond which was a wee bit interesting. To be fair, several tracks to make you laugh. Prudhvi’s “Cheppanu Brother” will stay with you even after you leave the cinema hall. Shakalaka Shankar as the snake charmer who works with the star snake “Seshu Babu” is hilarious but a bit too much for the U/A audience (censorship anyone?). It’s probably time for Naresh to stop, think, wait and choose. We all know he’s capable of doing a lot more than this.

The Raga-Ness Of Ragas

The book is divided into two parts. The first explores the subject through concept-based essays and analyses. In the latter half, he studies 49 ragas using case studies supported with references to authoritative texts and reviews of recordings by various maestros. Appropriately, the foreword has been written by well-known Jaipur-Atrauli gharana vocalist Ashwini Bhide-Deshpande, who has herself conducted some who has herself conducted some unique research on the subject. She says: “Combining his training with rare intelligence and analytical power, Deepak bhai is eminently competent to handle a subtle and yet complex topic, like this.” Raja’s latest book The Raga-ness of Ragas: Ragas Beyond the Grammar deeply explores a subject that every musician and committed music student would be interested in: the phenomenon of the Hindustani raga.

The Bad Seed

This is the bestselling novel that inspired Mervyn LeRoy’s classic horror film about the little girl who can get away with anything even murder. Originally published in 1954, William March’s final novel was an instant bestseller and National Book Award finalist before it was adapted for the stage and made into a 1956 film. The Bad Seed is an indelible portrait of an evil that wears an innocent face, one which still resonates in popular culture today. There’s something special about eight-year-old Rhoda Penmark. With her carefully plaited hair and her sweet cotton dresses, she’s the very picture of oldfashioned innocence. But when their neighborhood suffers a series of terrible accidents, her mother begins to wonder: Why do bad things seem to happen when little Rhoda is around?

The Truth About Twinkie Pie

Take two sisters making it on their own: brainy twelve-year-old GiGi (short for Galileo Galilei, a name she never says out loud) and junior-high-dropout-turned-hairstylist DiDi (short for Delta Dawn). Add a million dollars in prize money from a national cooking contest and a move from the trailer parks of South Carolina to the Gold Coast of New York. Mix in a fancy new school, new friends and enemies, a first crush, and a generous sprinkling of family secrets. That’s the recipe for The Truth About Twinkie Pie, a voice-driven middle grade debut about the true meaning of family and friendship.

Our city is the first to hold such strict action with pubs and lounges with minors standing no chance of entry. And even if you are eligible to enter the place, you need to carry a hard copy of your id cards. Rumors of not serving alcohol to designated drivers entering the clubs are also creating a buzz which is one of a kind of concept in India. Also, the time limit of the pubs has been restricted before 12 am. We love how action packed the whole Telangana Police department is getting with the rules for our safety! Way to go‌!!

TULIP - AUGUST, 2016 77

TAROT

Forecast For

August 2016 - Tarot reading by Nupur Heda Patil

LEO

LIBRA

Leo’s, you are beginning a new chapter in both family and career. Your productivity and attention are at a peak during this in-between phase, so make sure you express yourself though positive outlets: maybe an old hobby that you put on the back burner or a new one you’ve always thought about trying. Focus on blend, such as a new project at work or collaborating with others. Involving your lover in your plans will bring you closer together. The Date 25th, is an excellent time, to finalize your plans, but don’t be surprised if the plans totally change!

Dream the impossible dream… Your imagination is quite fertile this month, so feel free to plant seeds of fantasy. Visions may unexpectedly bombard both your waking and dreaming mind. Within each are buried treasures; however, to reap their value you must detach from your rational thinking. Find ways to connect with your deeper feelings: listen to music, meditate, walk in nature and spend quality time with those you care about. Most importantly, have faith in your visions and trust that their language is as essential as that of your logical mind. Strange coincidences will yield favorable results.

(born July 23 - August 22)

VIRGO

(born August 23 - September 22) When you focus too strongly on what is wrong, a sense of confusion will creep into your life and blur your sense of reality. You’ve been putting too much emphasis on some form of security: a relationship, job or lifestyle. You don’t realize how much this is holding you back and you’re overlooking an opportunity right in front of your eyes. Concerns over safety often prevent you from exploring the inner reaches of your mind. You’ll be offered something strange the last weekend of the month. Before you dismiss it, consider how it could benefit you.

78 AUGUST, 2016 - TULIP

(born September 23 - October 22)

SCORPIO

born October 23 - November 21) New opportunities for growth will emerge from the challenges of the past, but you must show up to claim your golden ticket. Poor quality realization is not only about what you have or don’t have, it’s a mindset that precludes you from the abundance of the universe and your inherent resources. If you look within yourself to find wealth, you may discover that what you thought was missing was simply misplaced. How do you expect to collect more when you neglect what you already have? An indirect question perhaps, but nothing will satisfy you if you cannot satisfy yourself.

TAROT

SAGITTARIUS

ARIES

In the search to discover meaning, it can be unfortunate to fit new experiences into an outdated context. You’re being challenged to reinvent yourself, beginning with the ideas you are defined by. Look beyond the labels and qualifications to find the real you. You’re not simply a collection of qualities; you’re an infinite source of wisdom. Though it may be challenging, you must identify and release your limiting beliefs. This month, advice will come in a most unexpected way!

Those little irritating voices of self-contempt may be in need of a sweet lullaby. As you enterprise into a new phase of life, you may be accompanied by an annoying sense of doubt, causing you to question your capabilities and dedication. Instead of denying this voice, find a way to soothe it. Engage in a considerate conversation asking if what there is to fear. Also, be wary of others who place uncertainty in your path; don’t take on their fears. Ask for what you are worth at work, and refrain from backbiting in relationships. Choose your words wisely!

CAPRICORN

TAURUS

A problematic situation may worsen this month if you don’t take immediate action. Look around and see what you are missing. Don’t be too sure of yourself, and be honest about whether your actions are just. By the end of the month, you’ll discover a betrayal by a so-called friend. It would be best to keep your private affairs private. A wolf in sheep’s clothing isn’t your friend. Don’t be surprised by the enormous changes this betrayal triggers; after the crisis there will be plenty of time to reflect. In the long run it will be better that it occurred.

If you accept your circumstances, you’ll regain your energy. Your restrictions are self-imposed and the result of misplaced ideals. Reexamine your high goals and see how they have become a hindrance rather than an asset. You may be ignoring your own power or projecting it onto something outside you. The most important lessons are those in which you overcome yourself. Find resolve in accomplishments from the past. After the 20th your challenges will begin to waste; take advantage and make a move. Those who have not vacationed this year, it’s the right time to do so.

AQUARIUS

(born January 20 - February 18) It may feel like you’ve been beating your head against a brick wall when nothing seems to move in the direction you desire. These complications are the consequences of previous actions. As you realize this, you will find that you still have choices and room for movement. The 13th day of the month brings power struggles with others. There’s no need to prove your point, just move on. Unfair as it may be, there is more freedom in accepting what is and starting again. If you’re looking for new employment, you might want to change the direction of you search.

PISCES

(born February 19 - March 20) To see the radiance of the light you must clean the dust from the windows. Ask yourself how your awareness has become muddied by critical or repetitive thoughts, and your emotions polluted by resentments, anger, desperation and fears. Although these are simply feelings, they are preventing you from moving on. The 12th day of the month may be unpredictable. Use this energy constructively to dismantle your castle of negativity. You must change your inner vision in order to affect your outer circumstances. Taking a look at your emotional attachments, you’ll be surprised by the amount of “confusion” you have.

(born Mar. 21 - April 19)

(born April 20 - May 20)

GEMINI

(born May 21 - June 20) Keep a record of what you value, then ask yourself what matters most; be honest about your priorities and how you invest your time. Do you feel that work taking away from time with your family, or is your family interfering with the pursuit of your dreams? Be honest about the excuses you make; it’s always easier to blame the situation than to accept responsibility for your actions. After all, most situations are a consequence of your choices. Brutal detachment forces you to remove the mask and face the mirror. Around 15th of this month, pleasant rewards await those involved in legal matters or other business arrangements.

CANCER

(born June 21 - July 22) Your new commitment is much harder to keep than you expected and you may be feeling the weight of that responsibility. Keep in mind that this feeling is only temporary and the work you’re doing will pay off in time. Get comfortable with delaying satisfaction. Self-discipline is another area that could use your attention. Remember, too much discipline and you’re likely to act out destructively; not enough and you’ll undermine your efforts. The first week of the month will present some unexpected challenges, so be sure to remain focused and present, even if it costs you something.
