LIFESTYLE

Nayaab - The Taste of Hyderabad Apart from being a successful businessman, Omer Aziz is a proud father of three. “That’s a responsibility I can’t ignore and try my best to manage my work and private life in the best possible way”, he says. A fitness enthusiast, he makes sure to incorporate regular gym sessions in his busy schedule. Tell us something about yourself. I’m a very straight forward person who likes to take things in my stride. Growing up in a business family I soon realised the importance of hard work and wanted to be just like my father whom I consider my hero. He had a hard time pursuing his education and had to give up on his dreams but he made sure I don’t face any of that and always supported and encouraged me towards getting my education right and also teaching me the tactics of handling the business. So by the time I completed my MBA I was ready to lend a helping hand to my father. Describe your typical weekdays and weekends. The concept of weekdays and weekends is pretty much opposite when you own a restaurant. The majority of the people worldwide who work really hard during the weekdays prefer making the most out of their weekends and that’s one very important aspect we need to take care of. During weekdays our business is smooth and easy-going but it isn’t the same on weekends. We have people coming in groups from different corporate offices, people who organise city and food tours! Since our place is located close to numerous heritage sites, we also have tourists coming in from places all over the world. So attending to them and serving them up to their expectations is what keeps me busy during weekends. What is the most challenging part of owning a restaurant? Owning a restaurant is a real challenge in itself. The problems and issues we face on a daily basis are far more complex than what an average person can imagine, but, if I were to choose one, it would definitely be dedication. You just have to dedicate a part of your life to this business and there is no way we can avoid this. Imagine doing a job 24x7 without any breaks in between. Apart from that, handling the mass labour, maintaining the quality and customer satisfaction is one hell of a job and there’s a lot more pressure when you’ve got such a legendary tag to maintain! With so many new restaurants coming up, has it had an impact on your restaurant? It wouldn’t be right to say that the

new restaurants don’t concern us, but, like I’ve said earlier, running a restaurant isn’t an easy task and most of the newbie’s fail to keep up with the customers’ requirements. Nowadays, even the customers are aware of the authenticity of the food they’re eating and definitely know the difference between good and bad quality. Moreover, maintaining the same taste and quality for years requires a lot of experience and our chefs know how to handle that. With everything sorted out perfectly and not to forget our excellent customer loyalty, we really don’t think it affects our business much! Apart from your own restaurant, what other restaurants according to you, serve the best Biryani? Well that’s a tough one to answer. I feel there is no such thing as the best biryani. From my experience as a restaurant owner, I can say that everyone has their version of biryani based on their customers’ reviews and preferences. It takes a series of trial and error to get that prefect dish which satisfies their taste buds, and in such a case giving the title of best biryani to a particular restaurant wouldn’t do justice to others. No doubt I have some of my personal favourites but with due respect to other restaurants out there, naming them out loud on such a great platform wouldn’t be appropriate in my perspective. What are some of the most loved dishes at Hotel Nayaab? Hyderabad had much more to offer apart from the famous dum Biryani. Nayaab in particular from the start has been famous for its breakfast menu which includes dishes like Lukhmi, Nahari- sheermal (Paya soup and bread) and more. Our malai Paya is most loved by our customers. It is a modern twist to the regular paya served in other restaurants and the bheja fry we serve is said to be the best in town. Apart from that, we also serve bhaji gurda and qeema in the morning. The biryani too is a class apart because it’s kept as authentic as it can be and moreover, it’s still made on wood and coal untouched by modern day techniques and equipments. To top that all we have our very own kesar tea which is a winner in all ways possible and Nayaab is the only place in Hyderabad where u can have one! Over a Cappuccino with

Rachna Anand Kimtee The 21 year old fashion design student was the only designer from Hyderabad who showcased her collection at India Fashion Week in London. She is talented, enterprising and currently studying at Hamstech. Besides designing very creative outfits, she also places a lot of emphasis on the comfort factor in her designs. Getting an international platform to showcase her collection was a great opportunity as her collection featured the intricate ikat weaves and Banjara needle crafts that are valuable indigenous weaving styles of India. She is also very determined to carry on with her mission to revive indigenous textile crafts.

Tell us about yourself? I’m a 21year old fashion designer, born in Maharashtra and brought up in Hyderabad. I did my schooling from Glendale Academy International and later pursued commerce from Villa Marie. I’ve always been very strong-minded and opinionated about fashion, what I want to wear, what looks best on others. After college I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do and after a series of life events I figured out what I was meant to do, what my life experience is meant to be…fashion! That’s when I joined Hamstech Institute of Fashion and Interior Designing to pursue a degree in Fashion Designing.

What is your favourite part of being a fashion designer? What excites me the most about this position specifically, is the opportunity to work with clients nationally and internationally. My favourite part is the process of designing. I find inspiration in almost everything. I love the fact that I’m my own boss and can just design whatever I imagine.

How do you manage personal and professional life? I think that it comes naturally to me. I don’t have a problem in maintaining work life balance. I am someone who comes home and knows when I have to switch-off my phone and when to switch it on and do my work. So I am very balanced at that. I don’t take on more than I could do.

How was India Fashion Week? How did you feel? India Fashion Week in London was an incredible experience as it was my first international show. I got to learn a lot from this show like and it was really nice working with the models. Getting an international platform to showcase my work so early was like a dream come true for me.

What goes through your mind while designing clothes for a fashion show? As a fashion designer I care about making eco-friendly garments. The most integral part about my designing is comfort; I make it a point to make outfits that are comfortable to wear. My choices of themes for the recent collection attempts to bring out valuable craftsmanship and artistry that can be found only in the rich heritage and culture of India. I’m also very determined to carry on with my mission to revive indigenous textile crafts.

LIFESTYLE

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learnt since you’ve started your label? It has been a very natural progression. I am still pursuing my final year in fashion designing and I got into Indian fashion week luckily and that’s when I started my own label. This is still my learning stage. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? I would definitely want to make my label more visible, work with more craftsmen and achieve global presence and appreciation.

Rapid Fire What is the one thing you would put on your bucket list? Sky diving! Where else can you get the adrenaline rush? Something adrenaline filled is a must for any bucket list. What is one thing that annoys you the most? Body shaming. Let people embrace themselves the way they are. If you got a chance to collaborate with someone who would it be? I would love to collaborate with Swarovski. Totally love their designs. What is the one thing you’ve always wanted to do? One of the things that I’ve always wanted to do is go on solo a trip and explore new places around the world. Which trend do you want to be back? Bandanna! They can re-emerge as a statement necklace layered over a tee or tucked into button down. Who is your favourite style icon? Deepika Padukone, who is famous for her gorgeous smile and toned body, I just love how she can carry off anything with so much grace.

Sofiya Sujad,

Jewellery by Gemzz and Jewels. I have always believed that jewellery should not function as an add-on, but effortlessly assimilate into the essence of your ensemble. Like perfume. So to me, jewellery isn’t an accessory. It is essential. The smallest piece of gem or a strand of pearl can go a long way in enhancing an outfit. Besides, some jewels are so timeless and precious in sentimental value that they are quite simply, a definition of you. With creative designers such as Suhani Pittie, Eina Ahluwalia, Eurumme et al at the helm, I love how jewellery design today has forayed into sculpting as opposed to mere assembly. From asymmetrical shapes and inspired cuts to the employment of unusual stones, aesthetically rich statement jewellery is a fresh alternative to classical bijouterie. Experimenting with precious metals and gems is one outstanding trend that has heralded a new era in the world of jewellery design.

Tahoor Koreen,

Jewellery Designer

Jewellery has the power to be this one little thing that makes you feel unique. Mixing up the traditional with trendy designs is being chosen by a lot of people because it creates a new design yet holds on to our roots and traditions. As the seasons are changing, people are turning to jewellery choices that are way more distinct and personal. Jewellery, handed down by your ancestors, which is traditional and vintage can rule your festive outfits. 2017 had seen trends of pastels taking a wave whether it was Anushka Sharma in her beautiful Sabyasachi gown or Samantha in her custom made Falguni and Shane Peacock gown, uncut diamond and kundan sets with pearls is an ever classic combination. Cocktail rings have always worked wonders. They go really well with every traditional Indian attire be it sarees, lehengas or salwar suits. When going for a heavy outfit, big chandbali’s or statement earrings are always classy and go a long way to provide you the glitter for the wedding season. This year people will see a lot more of head accessories be it a Matha Patti jhumar, maang tika or a Chand taara on your head which will highlight your beautiful hairstyles and add beauty to your attire. Friends

Fur-Ever!

30 MARCH, 2018 - TULIP

COVER STORY Have you ever wanted to own a dog or a cat but couldn’t get one because of your busy work or college schedule? Or maybe because your parents said no? It’s fun to have a little pooch running up to you when you get home from a tiring day. There’s a reason why people say “a dog is a man’s best friend”. You have a companion; someone to play with, someone to cheer you up when you’re low, someone you can take long with. It’s also a great way to meet new people! But, did you know that there are also several health benefits of owning a pet? Studies have proven that pet owners tend to have lower blood pressure, cholesterol and triglyceride levels than people who don’t own a pet. That means having a furry pal can decrease the chances of suffering a heart attack later in life (maybe, just maybe this information can help you convince your parents to get that cute little pup that you’ve been dying to get since forever). We’ve asked some pet owners to share with us why they think owning a pet is great!

-By Rabica Zulfiqar TULIP - MARCH, 2018 31

COVER STORY Owning a cat is such a great experience. At first, I wasn’t allowed to have a pet but since it was the only thing I wished for, my brother got one for me and my parents reluctantly agreed. The day I got Zizu, my life changed in a lot of ways. Although he didn’t understand my language at first, it was amazing to see how he responded to my demeanour. No matter how bad my day is, the moment I take him in my lap all my stress is relieved. He always enhances my mood and never lets me feel lonely. He is a great source of exercise for me as he is very playful. He acts like my alarm clock every morning and wakes me up with a lot of cuddles. Having Zizu as my pet has taught me to be so much more loving, caring and empathetic. My parents, who were totally against him, love him more than I do today. So I’d like to end by saying that everyone should own a pet and sign up for unconditional love without a second thought. Taniya, Student.

Having a pet can be a great stress buster. You always have a friend, a companion, and I absolutely love my German Shepherd, Ace. He keeps me active and his sweet pair of eyes instantly help get my mind off the thoughts and emotions that are causing stress. People aren’t always around when you need them, but pets are. They’re constantly giving off love and gratitude and are happy to just be in your presence. Tauseef Altamash, COO at Fortador.

Our family is blessed to have a Rottweiler, Rotto, since the past seven and a half years. Right from the day he walked into our lives with his tiny legs till now, when he sees us, there hasn’t been a single day when his wagging tail did not bring a smile to our faces. Imagine this: You come home from a party late night and thankfully your parents are asleep – but as soon as you unlock the gate – right in front of you, is this big bundle of joy, wagging his tail, really glad to see you back home. Pets, especially dogs are considered to be stress busters. Not only do they relieve you of your stress, but also increase your physical well-being, protect your home and your kids. They make a hardcore introvert, an extrovert. Also, it is said that a dog would travel 4,500 km just to find his human if lost and that’s why they’re considered a man’s best friend, even though our friends wouldn’t do the same for us. We, humans, always look for what’s beneficial to us and truly don’t deserve these beautiful creatures, yet, we are very lucky to have them! Ashish Jain, Student.

I’ve always been very fond of dogs; from the infancy of a puppy to the regality of an old dog, canines are a constant source of surprises and rewards! I’ve got a wonderful companion in my Saint Bernard, Buddy. He’s an absolute delight to be around and is always deliriously excited to see me. I’d gotten him as a gift for my son but, I spend more time with him than my son does! A dog’s love is unconditional; he’ll be by your side no matter what. If you’ve had a long, tiring day, just seeing Buddy wagging his tail with excitement, makes it all okay! Aqil Syed, Director of Commander Ali’s Academy of Merchant Navy

COVER STORY

Dr. Dog After working as a Government doctor for 15 years, Dr.Murlidhar started an NGO for stray dogs through which they have operated over 2,50,000 stray dogs all over India and taken care of their sterilization. Along with the NGO, he started the Dr. Dog Hospital, one of the best super-speciality hospitals in South India, and a one-stop solution for all pet needs. He also started the only dog dialysis centre in India to provide a cure for the dogs who suffer from kidney problems. “No animal should die because of lack of facilities”, he says. What do you do in your free time? Any hobbies? Travelling and having a fun time with friends. I love to travel and I’m currently planning to go on a world tour. It feels great to explore new places and experience different cultures. Do you have any pets of your own? I have a Siberian Husky named Husky who is an absolute delight to be around! We celebrated her 4th birthday on the 14th of February. What made you decide to be a veterinarian? It was my love for animals that made me want to be a veterinarian. It’s all about the emotional connection I feel with them. I don’t think of this as a business for monetary gains; it’s more of providing proper treatment, care and attention to these wonderful creatures. Having pets of my own makes me connect better with my clients. They would want the same level of care to be given to their pets that I would want mine to receive. What do you do if there are obvious signs that an animal you are treating has been abused? If a dog that I’m treating has been abused, I’ll do whatever I can in my power to save it and teach the owner a lesson he’ll never forget. I’ve never tolerated animal abuse and I never will.

What is the most difficult situation you’ve been faced with since you got in veterinary medicine? How did you handle it? It was when my Dalmatian who had been with me for over 13 years died of a kidney problem. Being a doctor myself, I couldn’t save him because of lack of facilities available. I was so devastated by the loss that I couldn’t function properly for about a week. That was when I decided to start a dog dialysis centre to help dogs suffering from kidney problems. So far we’ve done around 50 dialysis treatments which have helped save a number of lives. What do you think of people buying exotic and expensive pets? I feel buying exotic, expensive pets has become a symbol of status. Everybody wants to stand out and have something unique. Owning an exotic or expensive pet is absolutely fine as long as you can take good care of it. Where in Hyderabad can we find emergency care for pets during evenings, weekends or holidays? Dr. Dog! We’re open 24x7 and also have mobile dog service which offers treatments and grooming facilities at home. We’re planning to expand these services so that we can offer aid to a larger number of pets. We also have a hostel for pets so, in your absence, they can still receive the same amount of love and affection from us. TULIP - MARCH, 2018 35

CUISINE

Finger-licking goodness around the city of Nizams, diamonds and spices This is Hyderabad, a city famous around India for its unique and distinct Nizami cuisine, masasledar style of cooking and most importantly, biryani, among other foods of course. Isn’t it always more fun to gobble up pani pooris at the nearest ‘bandi’ and ask the ‘bhaiya’ for one extra poori as a finisher? It’s way more satisfying than shopping at a mall. Here is a bucket list comprising some must-try dishes around the city of the Kohinoor.

1

Ram Ki Bandi

Dripping cheese dosas and steaming idlis

Albeit the stall opens only at 3 am, people still line up to eat here due to the unparalleled taste of Ram’s dosas. Gooey cheese, flavourful chutney, crunchy sev and juicy Bangalore tomatoes are the elements that make the dosas the winner of an ever long dosa supremacy contest in the Southern States. Eating dosas in the dark, when the fog settles on the city and the food truck empire rises into a bustling fair, is an unforgettable memory. Concu

The salted caramel tart

When it comes to the dessert ballgame, Hyderabad has a lot to offer. However, according to us, Concu’s Salted Caramel tart is the most glorious dessert that Hyderabad has seen (with the Osmania biscuit as a close second). Sticky, buttery caramel, crisp nougat, oozing layers of chocolate and chunks of white chocolate with metallic Concu lettering make a dessert that is the paragon of all salted caramel desserts. Address: Concu Cucina, Plot no. 738, Road no. 37, same lane as Chit Chat Chai, Jubilee Hills. Phone Number: 040-23606709

Rayalaseema Ruchulu

3

GonguraMamsam

Nothing beats the authentic Gongura Mamsam at Rayalaseema Ruchulu. Gongura is sorrel leaves and the dish is a spicy, tangy amalgamation of regional techniques and methods of preparation. The Mamsam itself is prepared in OG Andhra style. It is a simple dish, cooked in multiple homes around Andhra Pradesh. The distinct aroma comes from the mutton being simmered in spices and tamarind. The dish pairs perfectly with rice or ghee covered roti. Address: 36th Square, Level 5, Opposite SVM mall, near PedammaGudi, Road 36, Jubilee Hills. Phone Number: 086886-86886

4

Café Bahar Biryani

Are we really going to avoid the elephant in the room? It’s Hyderabad for Christ’s sake, also known as the Biryani capital of India. Of course, my list has Biryani on it. Don’t get me wrong, not just any Biryani, the best Biryani in the city. Café Bahar is iconic. They plate the best flavours when it comes to meaty delights. To seal the deal, finish off with Qubani Ka Meetha. Address: Old MLA quarters, Hyderguda. Phone Number: 040-23243798

Shadab Restaurant Nalli Nihari

Despite the long queue to divinity, the Nalli Nihari is absolutely worth the wait. Located en route Charminar, Hotel Shadab is on the to-do list for every culinary enthusiast. The warm, soupy Nalli Nihari is the actual star of hotel Shadab. The dish is almost regal, lip-smacking and very well-seasoned. The taste is absolutely overwhelming, the dish is absolutely scintillating. The only way to do justice to the dish is to savour it. Address: Near High court road, OppMadina Circle, Charminar, High Court, Ghansi Bazaar. Phone Number: 040-24561648

6

Mekong Dimsums

Continental food around the city is often a mush of tropical ingredients that have no significance in the dish. Mekong nails its Dimsums to the T. They are fresh and summery, with shredded chicken, basil, a vinegar-soy side, cabbage and dollops of pungent wasabi. The dish is such a pick me up, it gives you an instant lift with its fantastic flavour economy. Undoubtedly, the best dim sum in the city. Address: Marigold by Greenpark hotel, 7-1-25, Lobby Level, Green lands, Begumpet. Phone Number: 040-33194144

7

Chicken Shawarma

Mini Arabia (read Spice 6) is incredible, primarily because of its chicken shawarma. Why chicken shawarma you may ask? Nobody in Hyderabad does Chicken Shawarma justice like Spice 6, most chicken shawarmas are undercooked or too soggy. On the contrary chicken shawarma is a dish that is quite the paradox. It’s firm yet succulent, charred yet unnaturally sweet and simple yet flavourful. Address: Plot no. 6-3-247, Opposite Ruosh Showroom, Road number 1, Shyam Rao Nagar, Banjara Hills. Phone Number: 040-69991613

SiddiqueKabab Centre Chicken Kebab

SiddiqueKabab has been popular around the Nizam city for generations. The charred, smoky, maseladar kababs are grilled with expertise. The little restaurant nestled in a nook of Kondapur, offers the inner essence of Hyderabad amidst the chaotic Kondapur main road. The chicken kebab is bliss for chicken lovers. The chicken kebab is way up on our recommended list. Address: 157, Kothaguda Main road, Opposite Harsha Toyota, Kothaguda. Phone Number: +91-9966668562

Churros

Churros have arrived in Hyderabad in all their glorious swagger, bearing a Mexican sombrero and maracas. Churros are the ultimate greasy sin. Churros are great any day, a mini feast of Nutella chocolate and pungent cinnamon. Address: 2-52/1/3 Hitech City Road, Phase 1, Megha Hills, Sri Sai Nagar, Madhapur, AndraBasti, Sri Rama Colony. Syn’s sushi is like poetry, each variety has different undernotes, different elements and a different rhythm. Syn’s sushi is synful (I apologize for that pun, it was an impulse). Shah Ghouse is the place to go gaga over Haleem. It is truly one of its kind, the ambience may be faulty, but the food is terrific. Eating Shah Ghouse Biryani is like tasting Hyderabad’s soul. The Haleem is authentic, excellent and well-prepared. The Haleem has a unique blend of oil and Hyderabadi masala which adds a thunderbolt to the dish. Pair the Haleem with a cup of garam Irani chai. It is almost inevitable that you will be walking out with a takeaway as well, maybe because of the sheer quantity or perhaps the superior taste. Feed Your Soul! India Bistro,

a newly opened restaurant in the heart of Jubilee Hills, is operated by Food Link group which also operates China Bistro and Glocal junction. The ambience here is outstanding and the service is quick. They offer you a complimentary panipuri which is nothing like the regular one that you’re used to. Instead of the aloo, they’ve got fried boondi and both khatta and meetha paani which is served in syringes. The taste is absolutely amazing and you’re sure to love it! They’ve got a plethora of options for vegetarians as well. The Pav Bhaji Fondue is super cheesy and delicious and so is the Paneer Tikka! From Palak Patte ki chaat, Snow Dahi Bhalle to the Veg Bhuna Makhan wala and Dal Double Fry, everything has got a unique taste to it and it’s hard to not want to have it all. In the non-vegetarian section, the Smokey Grilled Chicken is a must-have! The Fish N Chips have been given a ‘desi’ twist and do not disappoint. BBQ Chicken Wings, Firangi Chicken and Velvet Chicken are some of the other chicken items that you can try. If you prefer Mutton, they’ve got that covered too. Ghee Roast Mutton Boti and Railway Mutton Curry are to die for! You’ve also got plenty of cocktails and mocktails to choose from. We recommend you to try the Coconut Lychee Mocker, Apricot Orange Blossom and the Masala Mojito! Give your

WARDROBE a little mix of both

Fusion or Indo-Western wear is a preferred choice of people of all class and ages. While we all have the basics (staple lehenga, sari and chudidarkameez) in our closet that dutifully comes out for weddings, if you have been afraid about adding ethnic wear to your daily wardrobe, well, now’s the time to live on the edge. Classic silhouettes are finding innovative updates, the humble work wear button-down is being used as a stand-in for the signature handkerchief choli and pre draped sari pallus are here to provide you with a complete hands-off sari experience. When fashion goes fusion, kurta becomes a tunic, dupatta becomes a stole and salwar becomes a pair of trousers. Indian outfits can be given a Western touch with creativity in waistlines, cuts in fabric, and other decorations. Indian prints can also be used in western outfits. Blending Indian styles and textures with the western charm gives a whole new look to the outfit. Here are the two beautiful models from Hyderabad who shared on what they think about Indo-Western fashion.

Arunima Suresh

Model “I remember when I used to dread picking up those heavy lehengas and wearing them for hour long weddings. But it’s such a relieving feeling every-time I pick an Indian outfit now; I love how the options have a western tinge to them. From cold shoulders to ethnic jackets, it’s superexciting to see the Indo-Western designs that come out these days. They are super comfortable for an office wear or for a friend’s wedding.”

Tadasha Mishra, Model and Blogger I feel Indo-western has its own unique charm. I love wearing western outfits but I always add a desi touch to it by throwing in a pair of jutis, beautiful chunky Indian earrings, pair ethnic top or jacket with ripped jean and sometimes a block printed or tie and dye scarf. The IndoWestern trend that I am fond of at the moment is the sari pant look. I absolutely love how it’s so comfortable but at the same time makes you stand out in the crowd. 44 MARCH, 2018 - TULIP

Rasvin Sawhney, 24 year old pastry chef and entrepreneur by profession who has done her degree in economics from St. Francis College. “As a kid, I was always been fascinated by the process of mixing simple ingredients like flour, sugar and butter- the outcome being a delicious cake baked to a golden brown perfection. I knew there was much more to learn in the magical field of baking. As I got older no matter what I did, a part of me was always inclined to spend more time experimenting with new recipes. I never missed a chance to bake for my friends and family during celebrations and the immense love and appreciation that I received from them pushed me further to follow my passion which later turned into my full-time profession. I dedicate all my time and effort for each cake individually. I don’t rush around doing a lot of things at once. I just focus on the making of one cake at a time and even though it limits the intake of my orders it helps me attain the perfection I want. My journey as a baker has been nothing short of amazing. Even though there were ups and downs- final nerve wrecking moments with delicate cakes and deadlines, the outcome is so worth it. Being able to follow my passion as a full-time profession is truly a blessing. I realised how wonderful it is to able to do something you love that in-turn brings immense joy to my clients.” says Rasvin. For Heaven’s Cake

Sadaf Hassan, all of 21 is a self- taught pastisserie chef and the owner of For Heaven’s Cake two years ago and was handling everything by herself until last year when her partner Simraan Khan joined her. Simraan Khan who makes better fondant and also he is the mind and soul behind their ideas and marketing and Sadaf is the hands behind the sweet treats. “ I started baking when I was 10 years old. An oven was what I got the year for my birthday as a present. I guess the journey of baking started off from then. What we do at For Heaven’s Cake is that we take our client’s request and try to incorporate as much of their personality into our creations as we can, so that they have something unique, customised cake for them. Our journey has had it’s ups and downs. There have been days when we were so overwhelmed with orders that we were glued to our workstations as late as 3 am! There have also been days when we have very little to do. Whatever the case maybe, we strongly believed in quality over everything else. The best part of this job is the smile we see on our client’s face when they unbox our creation. We love getting feedback from them and delivering the icing on the top for their special day. This is what motivates us more than anything-their happiness, says Sadaf.” Follow her on Instagram @forheavenscakehyd Contact: 9000270293

However, my inspiration over the years has been Nigella Lawson and Rachel Allen. I started off baking for friends and family who have been at the receiving end of many experiments after years of research and practice to hone my skills and I finally took the plunge in the professional

Also, I was very passionate about cooking, more importantly baking and used to watch a lot of cookery shows from a young age. Even though I was the only one in my family who chose this profession I was well supported because I absolutely love baking. The uniqueness of our home bakery lies in the scientific and practical reasons that we put into our products. We here know about our ingredients and their positives and negatives, so we use them the way they are supposed to work. Our rustic approach to some of our products is uniqueness in itself. There are few bakes in which we don’t give any shape, colour. It’s just rustic that makes it eye appealing. When we received good feedback and when the clients were satisfied with our work we were motivated to do more. It’s been a very tough journey yet a memorable one. An act of

KINDNESS -By Rabica Zulfiqar

“A kind gesture can reach a wound that only compassion can heal”- Steve Maraboli. Being kind, providing support and helping those in need is something everyone needs to start implementing in their lives. You don’t need a reason to help someone and nobody has ever regretted being kind. It doesn’t have to be a grand gesture; it could be something as small as giving someone water to drink. A small act of kindness is about taking it to the next level. You are not just reacting to something another person has done for you. You are going out of your way, in a small way to be kind to another human being. Some of the people in our city have taken it upon themselves to spread love and kindness to those who are in need. A number of NGO’s have come up in recent years that work towards safeguarding women’s rights, educating the underprivileged children, providing basic health care to the homeless and feeding the poor. These people work day and night, selflessly, because they believe that every human being deserves to be happy and live a decent life. It’s people like these who restore your faith in humanity. We’ve listed some of the NGO’s in the city that you too can be a part of and lend a helping hand to. TULIP - MARCH, 2018 53

Perks of being a 90s kid

Times have changed and so has the way of living, people and habits. Change is the only constant and sometimes adjusting to that change is not easy. We always look back in time and feel amazed at the way things have changed. 90s kids are lucky because they got to see both sides of the spectrum – the world before the technology invasion and the world after. Yes, we know we’ve spent a considerable amount of time harping on about how the 90s was the best era ever and how kids these days will never understand what it felt like living through that era. But then what to do? The 90s were cool in every sense of the word. You spent most of your time outdoor playing with your friends, riding bikes and inventing all sorts of new games. You waited for your summer holidays to start just so you could play your hearts out! What about the millennials? Just give them a phone or an iPad and they’re good to go. They don’t know how much fun it was to play cricket with all your friends on the roads and dozing off within seconds from being so exhausted! We’ve asked some people to share with us the most fun parts of growing in the 90’s! As proven by these kickass 90s things. Take a look.

Tazos

Every 90s kid knew that the bigger your Tazo collection, the cooler you got. And what was cooler than Tazos back in 90s? Getting two Tazos in a single bag of chips.

Puffy Stickers

Let’s face it. Our cupboards and books were never complete without at least a dozen of these adorning them.

Fashion inspired Oneshoulder sling bags

That was the teenage style back then and so what if they looked like you were wearing a saree kapallu? There was a time when these messenger sling bags were in trend.

Nokia 3310

90s kids will remember this for only one thing, it had the snake game.

Chewing gum tattoos

These were the best because these were the only tattoos you could get as a child!

This Screensaver

Perhaps the biggest incentive of going to the computer labs back in school was this cool screensaver we could ogle at on the school computers.

Being a 90s kid is really great. There are many things to share as I have had the most amazing childhood. These days kids get their hands on gadgets and have access to almost anything they want but back in the 90s spending an hour on the computer was considered too long. And what I like about 90s is that kids used to play outside unlike the kids these days who are into their phones and probably spend very little time on the ground playing. They will never get why 90s was cool. Also, the cartoon shows back then were really fun to watch. I used to watch cartoons and my favorites used to be Pokemon, Dragonballz and Tom and Jerry. FEATURE Every decade has something memorable and specific to that time period. That’s what makes every decade so special and unique. The 70s were all about peace and love. The 80s were all about rock and roll and the 90s, well I would say that it was a combination of everything. I like to think the 90s was a staple decade in our history. The 90s was when people started using the Internet when cell phone became more and more popular. Also classics like Titanic were made and cartoons were the best. These days kids have their hands on everything they have- phones, iPod and tablets and whatnot. I remember when in my childhood my dad got the classic Nokia 3310 and it had the snake game I would wait for my dad to come home just so that I could play the game. Now, the kids don’t have to wait because they have tablets for playing games. Being a 90s kid makes me proud and cool that I was born in the time where the Disney movies, cartoons, playing outside were the best. Swetha, Nift Student

Well, I like being called a 90s kid because I feel lucky that to see both sides of the world before the technology invasion and the world after, where it’s necessary to have at least five gadgets going at once. Our generation was different we didn’t depend on iPads, Kindles and the like. We would read real books and music was the best when it was listened to on a Walkman. We didn’t stay indoors because there was nothing to do unless it was raining and even then we were begging to go out if only to the porch. I used to come back from school leave the bag at home and run outside to play with my colony friends because it was the only way I would make a conversation with people and make friends. I used to spend hours outside playing and come back home watch cartoons while I had my dinner. I don’t know about today’s cartoons but back then cartoons were the best. Anirudh, Working professional

The past few decades have seen a phenomenal change in technology which has transformed people’s professional and personal lives. I grew up playing games like hide and seek, lock and key, in fact, word play paints a picture of children screaming running about, sweaty and dirty. But whereas today’s kids sit in a corner playing Candy Crush, Fruit Ninja, and Temple Run. Back in school, we would pass handwritten notes and also made hand-made cards for birthdays. Also, I remember birthdays meant distributing chocolates in the classes and giving extra chocolates to your best friend well I used to do that but these days kids have to throw a big birthday party to their friends and if they don’t it’s like a big thing for them. I am glad that I was born at the time where everything was less complicated compared to now. Srujan Naidu, Student

WELLNESS

It’s Time To Move On Breakups can be excruciating. In your head, you’re pushing for the perfect relationship and probably even imagining your wedding, but in reality things could be collapsing. You get so attached to your partner- from talking to them 24x7 and meeting them every day- that once you break up, it feels like a part of you is missing. If you’re in a relationship where you’re constantly being nagged and put down by your partner, breaking up may be the right thing to do. No matter how much you love them and think that they will change someday, it’s just not going to work out; people don’t change. You may be blinded by the idea of a ‘forever together’. It’s almost always that you end up broken-hearted because you were too stubborn “in love” to listen to those who could see exactly why it wouldn’t work out. Whether you were in a happy relationship or a toxic one, getting over a breakup takes a lot of time and mental effort. But, is a break up the end of the world? No. Sure you can cry your eyes out and not want to get out of bed for a couple of days but you cannot continue doing that for the rest of your life. You need to move on. It’s absolutely fine if your relationship didn’t turn out the way you wanted it to and that doesn’t mean you’ll never have a happy life. It also doesn’t mean that you despise your ex with all your heart till eternity; how can you hate somebody so much when you were so madly in love with them till you decided to part ways? It’s just not possible. You need to stop lying to yourself and others that you hate them (unless of course, they’ve done something that bad). Accept that you feel bad, accept that whatever it is you felt for them was something special, and give yourself the time you need to move on. Cherish all the good memories you had with this person and try to let go or forgive them for all the bad ones. After all, they were once everything you ever wanted. 60 MARCH, 2018 - TULIP

Sujatha Rajamani, a psychotherapist has been working with KIMS hospital for over 15 years whose areas of work include dealing with children with behavioural issues, marital, pre and post-operative counselling, trauma counselling and stress counselling. She says, “We all have concerns and we all need support systems to go through that journey”. She has been associated with St. Francis College where she works as a counsellor, supporting the students doing Post Graduate Diploma in Psychology and helping them cope with their lives so they can enter the profession with a clean slate. She is also a cognitive behaviour therapist and NLB practitioner who helps in integrating therapies, psychiatry and helps people on medications to connect with reality. What procedure do you follow to deal with your clients’ issues? Clients come forward with different kinds of issues; personal, professional or relationships. First, I take an assessment of their personality, understand their strengths and weaknesses and then help them fight the situations they come forward with, with their strengths. No client fits into one particular therapy. We, as therapists, tailor-make therapies best suited to the client’s needs. What defines a good relationship? A good relationship is where there’s comfort, where you can share what you feel and what you think, with each other. Communication is a very big aspect which bridges the relationship. We need transparency, trust, and most importantly, time to give to one another. This is especially required in relationships in the present day where these qualities are missing. These are the pillars that we need for a strong relationship. How to tell that it’s time to end a relationship? The only way that a relationship can end is when one of the persons is not willing to work on it anymore. There are no good relationships and no good marriages; it is about two people not willing to let go of each other and wanting to make it work. So even if one person is not willing to work on it, it’s already heading towards an end. What are the red flags that shouldn’t be avoided? If one of the persons is not communicating anymore, avoids spending time, spends lots of time outside, gets into addictions like smoking and drinking, and when there’s a simple communication, there’s a lot of reaction, more of reaction than response, then it’s time for a couple to sit down and talk it out. What we, as therapists suggest, is that, anything that the other person is able to sense, a discomfort, should be addressed within 24 to 48 hours. This is because the hurt keeps prolonging and one tags along with the other and then another; so when there’s a whole huge sequence and it gets difficult to deal with. These issues should be sorted out within 24 hours and 48 hours if both the partners are professionals and busy. How to cope with the loneliness that comes after a breakup? The simplest thing that we should do, even when we’re in a relationship, is that we should take at least some time out to spend with our close friends and family members. We shouldn’t alienate ourselves and give the relationship all the time possible. Very often, what happens is, when people commit to a relationship, the first reason for a misunderstanding is that ‘the other person doesn’t spend enough time with me; in the beginning of a relationship there was a lot of time spent and now, it is not being done’. So to escape loneliness, I would say, please balance

WELLNESS

meeting your family and friends because when you have a support system, this kind of a situation can be avoided, in the worst case scenario of a breakup. How to move on from a toxic relationship? Moving on is always the simplest things to do. Sometimes, both men and women are unaware of what they’re doing to the other person and we have to identify what is making them react or respond in a way or talk in a particular manner. We have to understand the family background and what they’ve been through in their childhood. By taking an understanding of all this, we need to evaluate our love and attachment for the person. If beyond that, a person feels that a relationship is toxic, then we have to take a call on it. The only way to do it is to sit down and tell the person that these are the things that are hurting and if it continues, it’s going to be difficult for you to be in the relationship. We need to be patient and learn that change is difficult, but, at the same time, we’re human beings who have the power to choose. You have a choice to make and if the person is showing, not with words but behaviour that he/she is changing, you need to be patient. But, if you consistently feel no change, then it depends on you to take a call on moving on from a toxic relationship. Is it best to cut all contact or remain friends? This strongly depends on if you’ve parted in an amicable way; with a lot of emotional maturity and have mutually agreed or decided on the fact that we’re good as friends but can’t really stay in a relationship. It also depends on the amount invested in a relationship. Psychology always says something very simple, “If you love a person and can still see them as a friend then you probably never loved the person”. So we have to see and understand the extent to which one has invested. If it has been bitter then you would want to fall out of touch and not remain friends, but, it is an individual decision one has to make based on the circumstances and situation. What can be done to make the process of moving on easier? It is always good to sit and talk as adults and amicably separate and tell that things aren’t working anymore. I would say that the lesser the conflict, the easier it is to move on. We’re human beings, we all make mistakes and have to learn to forgive and forget. Leaving on a good note is going to make moving on easier. Can a person feel lonely while still in a relationship? Yes. As I’ve said earlier that very often when people are getting into a relationship, huge amount of time is spent with each other and once that commitment situation is through, and they’re in a relationship, the timing starts reducing which often gets interpreted as a person feeling lonely. If we follow some patterns right from the beginning that you do give a couple of days in a week to your family and friends also, then there’s no need to feel lonely. Lonely can also mean that you may not feel a part of a relationship where one person is taking all the decisions and doing what is necessary but the other person’s views and opinions are not being considered and needs are not being met. I always tell people who come to me that you have to loudly share, talk and communicate on what is bothering you. Very often, men or women have their own limitations of personality and upbringing and they cannot sit and sort things out. If persistently no action is being taken then that’s something to be worried about. Take some quality time to sort it out. When should second chances be considered? It depends on the way the relationship panned out and the time that was invested in it. It depends on a lot of dynamics and is up to an individual to decide if they should give a second chance or not based on the depth of time, quality and emotions and so many things that have been put into a relationship. It’s a personalised choice that one has to take; it cannot be answered with a yes or a no.

WELLNESS

Get fit with CrossFit! A software engineer who gave up a comfortable 9-5 job to pursue his dream of a career in fitness- meet Omer. He now works as a fitness trainer at X60 Crossfit, which is the only CrossFit Box in all of AP and Telangana. He is trained in all movements that are specific to powerlifting and gynmastics and has given us an insight into crossfit. What is CrossFit? CrossFit is constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity. All CrossFit workouts are based on functional movements, which mean that they’re used in day to day life; For example, picking up something heavy off the floor or sitting on a chair and getting up. These are the core movements of life. They move the largest loads, the longest distances so they are ideal for maximizing the amount of work done in the shortest time. How important is stretching? Should it be done before or after the workout? Stretching keeps the muscles flexible, strong and healthy. We need that flexibility to maintain a range of motion in the joints, without which the muscles shorten and become tight. We do dynamic stretches before the workout and static stretches after the workout. A flexible muscle is less likely to become injured if you have to make a sudden move. By increasing the range of motion in a particular joint through stretching, you can decrease the resistance of your body’s muscles during various activities. How do you keep your fitness training knowledge up to date? We have Certified Coaches at X60 CrossFit who conduct coaches’ session two times a week to make sure all the trainers are on the same page with regard to movements, programming and nutrition. How is CrossFit better than the other forms of workout? CrossFit works better as it draws focus on strength as well as metabolic conditioning. We at CrossFit, believe that routine is the enemy. The strength of CrossFit is the global community. Many weightlifters train on their own or with a workout partner or personal trainer in gyms. There is little uniformity throughout the country, and weightlifters select their own workouts and design their own programs. CrossFit, on the other hand, prides itself on having a greater sense of community. How do you keep your clients motivated? Our clients log their workouts and measure their progress. Making progress is one of the most motivational things in the world. They set their goals and tell as many people as possible which helps them in achieving their desired goals. Conducting socials helps all the clients to get together once or twice a month and talk about their crossfit accomplishments. Give me three essential exercises you suggest for all clients? Why are these in your top three? Deadlift: The deadlift is a strength exercise that works multiple muscle groups, including your back, glutes, upper thighs, hamstrings, lower back, upper middle back, traps and legs. It is one of only a handful of exercises that target muscles in the upper and lower body. Performing a deadlift with good form is crucial to reduce the risk of injury, particularly to the low back. The deadlift is the perfect exercise to add to your workout which will help in losing fat and improving muscle mass because it uses the 62 MARCH, 2018 - TULIP

biggest muscles in the body, eliciting a huge calorie burn during and after the workout. Air Squat: This movement tightens the lower body — the glutes, hamstrings, quadriceps and inner thigh in a powerful way because the range of motion is much deeper than when compared to a typical squat. It also tightens the core, especially the lower abs, and raises the heart rate. Squats stimulate muscle-building hormones, which strengthen the entire body. Weighted squats will challenge the body to overcome a force and acquire the anabolic benefits. Pull-ups: A pull-up is a “compound” exercise that involves a large number of big and small muscles, most importantly your latissimus dorsi (lats) and biceps. In addition to working multiple muscles at the same time, the pull-up is also a multi-joint movement, an exercise that causes more than one joint to move. These movements will definitely add to your muscle mass if you do enough of them. What would you say to someone starting CrossFit for the first time? Do not get intimidated by the videos of elite athletes lifting heavy loads. You do not need any special gear to start. Regular workout clothes and some athletic clothes are all you need. Don’t rush adding weights to your lifts before you’ve really gotten good at your form. It’s better to form good habits and get your technique right at a lower weight before you start piling plates on the bar. If you start increasing weights before your form has had a chance to improve you could start developing habits that will be harder to change later on. Be patient, results take time but if you’re consistent, they will come. Optimum movement, right diet and good sleep are a must. Join a result oriented fitness community everything else will follow. Sojourn to Hampi to the resplendent Evolve Back

Kamalapura Palace

H

Hampi is one of the most popular tourist destinations today in South India, attracting a steady stream of tourists. Interestingly Hampi is also known as Pampakshetra, which is derived from the name Pampa, the original name of the life giving Tungabhadra River. The culturally rich Hampi is a famous tourist attraction not only in India but the world over. The historic locales are brimming with charm and beauty thanks to its heritage sites that range from temples, to the queen’s bath, to its elephant stables and much more that are on offer. The intricate architecture and extravagance in these historic marvels are testimony to the glorious days of the famed Vijayanagar Empire and their influence during the 13th to the 16th Century.

We recently had the opportunity to explore Hampi along with a stay at the Royal Kamalapura Palace owned by Evolve Back Luxury Resorts (Earlier known as Orange County). We took a Tru Jet direct flight lasting 1 hr 20 min to Hampi from Hyderabad to the conveniently located Vidyanagar airport. The resort also takes care of flights and airport transfers to and fro from Hyderabad at a nominal cost. We then drove to the palace, which is located a mere 30 minutes away from the airport. Walking into the main gate we were left mesmerized and awestruck 64 MARCH, 2018 - TULIP

by the majestic views presented by the elevation of the palace. As we reached the lobby we were greeted by courteous palace staff, who welcomed us with traditional and warm hospitality, offering us freshly harvested coconut juice and delicious dates that helped replenish and boost our energy levels. We then checked into our room, which ushered us with the subtle fragrance of the Indian lotus, wafting through the air and calming our senses. To add to our delight, our room had a personal Jacuzzi and a fantastic view of the scenic landscape outside.

The architecture of the palace is inspired by the famed temples of Hampi that incorporates its vivid arches, and complemented by water bodies resplendent with flowing water meandering like rivers in pastel shades. The palace hosts a complimentary history session for its guests each evening in the Deep Mahal at 7.30 pm, lasting an hour and hosted by a historian. These informative sessions take you on a journey back to the era of ancient Kings and Queens, dotted by facts and interesting vignettes of the regions glorious past.

TRAVEL

The Evolve Back Kamalapura Palace promotes a plastic-free environment and only uses plastic-free glasses and paper bags, which we were happy to note. The palace offers its guests with various trail sightseeing packages which are typically spread between the mornings or the evenings. Each tour lasts approximately two hours and the charges are Rs 1200/- per head. These tours are flexible and you can plan your Itinerary with them in advance to suit your convenience. We made use of the opportunity to explore two of their magical trails at length. We were taken on the trails in an open modified Mahindra Scorpio accompanied by a historian and the driver. As we drove around, the historian guided us through the essence of each location and the reasons for its popularity. We started with the Vitthalapura walk, where we visited a Temple thronged by thousands each day since ancient times for worship and celebration. The temple is well known for its musical stone pillars and a chariot carved into its stone structure. We also enjoyed the experience of shopping in a huge bazaar adjoining the main temple. The second

trail, also known as the Raya trail takes you back by over five hundred years and gives you a privileged peek into the life and times of the famed Maharajas of Vijayanagara. Apart from this the other trails that one could explore include the Virupaksha and the Tungabadra treks. The main Palace presents an infinity pool and a family pool and also has a reading lounge where one can sip a cup of coffee in its lazy environs and relax while reading a book. No trip is complete without sampling its traditional cuisine. We enjoyed signature dishes at the two restaurants in the palace: The Bahmani (Mughlai Cuisine) and Tuluva (Multi-cuisine) which served gastronomical delights on every occasion. The property presents four room categories at the Evolve Kamalapura Palace - Nivasa: Rs. 24,000, Nilaya: Rs. 27,000, Zenana: Rs. 30,300 and the Jal Mahal: Rs. 35700. The prices are for two person occupancy and the prices can vary depending on the season. All prices are inclusive of taxes along with breakfast and dinner included.

On the day of our checkout from the Evolve Back Kamalapura Palace, we opted for an Ayurvedic herbal body massage. The Vaidyasala performs these massages with Ayurvedic oil which is made from the extracts of 21 different herbs. The experience left us totally rejuvenated and relaxed. So, if you’re looking for a soothing break and some fun things to do, Hampi is the place to be. Address: Kamalapura – P.K. Halli Road, Kamalapura, Bellary District, Hospet, Karnataka - 583221. AUTOMOBILES

LIVE TO RIDE Bikes have been ruling the automobiles sector in India for many years. They are popular among young men for their looks, speed and style. Besides these features, there are many advantages of owning a bike in India. It gives you the space to move in an extremely congested road. Moreover, you can use a bike to travel even on the very narrow roads with ease. Most people would love to own a Kawasaki, Triumph or a Harley. But the thought of riding them on the city’s roads makes them hesitant. We chatted with three owners of sports and adventure bikes and asked them about their machines and if it is indeed such a challenge to beat the Hyderabadi roads. This is what they had to say.

66 MARCH, 2018 - TULIP

AUTOMOBILES

Triumph Tiger “Once a Triumphant always a Triumphant, says Vikas, proud owner of a Triumph Tiger. Triumph is the brand known for its built quality and one ride of the bike changes your perception towards these beautiful machines and also the service schedule of this bike makes you actually pull towards the brand. It’s as simple as maintaining any entry-level sedan. The unique thing about this bike is that it has cruise control as standard, making your long journeys more comfortable. I like this bike because if it’s agile and it is comfortable for the rider with a pillion, and in spite of its heavy looks this bike can be driven around in the city and highway. Surprisingly this bike is very easy to ride in traffic and on long highways. It allows the rider to manoeuvre the vehicle in heavy traffic conditions and it’s easy to handle irrespective of road conditions. You can almost neglect the potholes because of its high ground clearance and good suspension. The technology, built quality, legacy and the proud feeling of owning one encapsulates within the price which makes it worth every penny of your hard earned money.” Vikas, Biker and works for Triumph

Kawasaki ZX10R “Never judge a book by its cover. One of the main strong points for which I own this bike is because of its handling and power. The bike has a ground clearance of 145mm which improves the aerodynamics of this bikeat high speeds and makes it easy to turn at slow speeds. The bike never loses road grip. When it comes to riding around the city with traffic it is very easy to ride it on a daily basis because its initial power is linear till 5000rpm in the first gear which makes it practical to ride on the everyday streets and clutch is easy to shift gears which help in traffic. This bike is one of the best in the litre class segment, worth the price and also I am a dealer for Kawasaki. If you ask me if it is worth the money and I would say that it is a premium sports bike which features one of the best engineered 1000cc engines available worldwide. It is definitely good value for your money. “ Rahul, Biker & Dealer for Kawasaki

Harley Davidson Street 750 “I really like the Harley-Davidson Street 750. The motorcycle dared to be different from the traditional Harley formula, and also a bonus point is that its price is affordable. This Street Rod has taken inspiration from the company’s drag style bikes, which packs in aggressive styling that spells speed from every angle and that’s one of the main reasons why I like this bike. Well, on roads this bike is quite interesting. This is indeed a firm setup motorcycle and on most roads, minor bumps and imperfections will not give you any trouble. Apart from a healthy dose of matte black paint for the engine and exhaust, the Street Rod gets split seats with a new saddle that helps riders cope with the hard acceleration. The makers of this bike have really put in a lot of effort to ensure that the Street Rod has the performance to match its menacing appearance. When it comes to handling, Street Rod will surely surprise you. This bike manages to handle bad roads brilliantly. While the suspension is soft, it doesn’t get the bike unsteady around turns or hamper precision. Also, it doesn’t get quite hot in slow-moving traffic or when standstill because of its liquid-coolant. I can say confidently that this is one of the best Harleys that I have ridden and also it’s worth the money you spend on It.” Arjun, Working and Biker

‘Kedarnath’ gearing up for film’s next schedule

Chitrangada goes the Madhuri Dixit way? It has been a few years since Chitrangda Singh hit the dance floor with a purpose. One of her last dance tracks was Kundi Mat Khadkao Raja for akshay Kumar’s Gabbar. The actress recently shot for a Rajasthan folk dance number for Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3’. The song has been choreographed by Saroj Khan and features a host of traditional steps, which might remind of Madhuri Dixit’s oomphy moves of yore. The song in question was shot at a havelli in Jaipur. Chitrangda rehearsed for five days, for six-seven hours every day. And, once she was ready to roll, the song took fiur days on the floors. A source from the set reveals, “This song is an important part of the film’s climax, and it has also been treated as a highlight of the film. We were filming at a palace and we ensured that everything went off smoothly.” About the equation between the actress and the choreographer. “Chitrangda was both excited and nervous because this was her first project with Sarojji, who is known for focussing on expressions and adding a traditional flavour to songs. Knowing how nervous she was, Sarojji was very warm towards her. Soon, they became comfortable working with each other.”

Sushant Singh Rajput and debutant Sara Ali Khan is all set to go on the floor with the second schedule of their film Kedarnath as they met director Abhishek Kapoor. Sushant also shared a picture of three of them on his official Twitter handle captioned Jai Shiv Shamboo! #Kedarnath. MOVIES Movie Reviews

Black Panther Black Panther is film that is as much about respecting the ast as it is about embracing the future. So it begins with a story, about Wakanda, a fictional African nation hidden away from the world, behind impenetrable rainforests and unconquerable mountains, uncsolonised, unchained. It is the T’Challa, who will until recently was the crown princeof the country. His father was murdered in Berlin during the evnts of Capatain America: Civil War-we sat and watched in quiet shock as T’Challa wept with the King’s head in his arms, his final words to him in his head. Ryan Coogler’s masterful superhero drama is unlike any other, featuring outstanding acting, breathtaking art direction, fascinating royal intrigue, memorable action sequences, and surprising depth. It’s that depth -- of character, of storyline, of relevancy -- that makes Black Panther shine, as Boseman’s T’Challa takes the mantle of king with enormous uncertainty about whether to share Wakanda’s resources with the world. With the exception of his second-in-command W’Kabi (Kaluuya), T’Challa surrounds himself with an inner circle of influential women: Okoye, Nakia, his mother (Bassett), and his genius younger sister, scientist/tech inventor Shuri (Letitia Wright). This isn’t just another highly entertaining but formulaic superhero story; it’s also poignant and powerful and earns its place toward the top of Marvel’s films. Sonu ke Titu ki Sweety Sonu and Titu are childhood besties. Sonu, the cynical millennial comes to Titu’s rescue every time he faces heartbreak and convinces him to stay single, too. But Titu, a hopeless romantic, falls for the quintessential good girl, Sweety. Is there more to her than meets the eye? ‘Pyaar Dosti hai’ — Shah Rukh Khan may have said that way back in 1998 but Luv Ranjan proves it with a twist in 2018. Unpredictable throughout, the film’s real love story is the friendship (platonic) between its two male characters (Kartik Aaryan as Sonu and Sunny Singh as Titu), who are inseparable. Sweety’s (Nushrat Bharucha) arrival, messes their equation, leading Sonu to wonder if the girl is good enough for his brother from another mother. Who ends up as the third wheel in this unique and somewhat bizarre love triangle, forms the story. If you are familiar with Luv Ranjan’s brand of youthful romcoms, you must know that they often represent young lovelorn men, who find themselves dancing to the tunes of manipulative girlfriends. The casting works well as all performances are in sync with the film’s cheeky demeanour. ‘Monologue man’ Kartik makes the most of his meatier part and steals the show. Despite the odds, this bromance vs romance comedy works as an exciting guessing game to predict who’ll end up as the third wheel — best friend or girlfriend? This means war. Tholi Prema Venky Atluri is entering the film world with his debut Tholi Prema with Varun Tej and Rashi Khanna as the lead pair. Two decades ago, actor-cum-producer Pawan Kalyan’s film Tholi Prema was one among the blockbusters. Now, Pawan’s nephew Varun Tej is planning to steal the limelight in the same title. The plot of the film begins on the lines of famous film Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, as Aaditya aka Aadi (Varun Tej) meets a girl Varsha (Rashi Khanna) on a train journey and falls in love with her on the first sight. Before they reach Hyderabad, Aadi proposes her but she does not respond immediately. Love, break-up and reunion is not a new point but the direction and sequences here follow a different line. Venky has tried to make his debut an entertaining one. The director has made a sincere attempt to make the scenes fresh and appealing. The couple’s meet in train and follow-up scenes; including the romantic thread have a beautiful narrative. Tej has been improving a lot since his first performance. As for Rashi, this is the best film after her Oohalu Gusagusalade and has given a commentable performance. Senior actress Suhasini appears as Varun Tej’s mom and her presence is an added advantage to the film. The dialogues are catchy and entertaining. On the whole, Tholi Prema is a beautiful love story that appeals youth with the backing of good music and cinematography.

TULIP - MARCH, 2018 77

78 MARCH, 2018 - TULIP

ARIES March 21 - April 19

TAROT

Today, some Android smartphones allow taking pictures by saying the word “cheese”. And in March Aries will have a great opportunity to smile. Be careful, though, not to be captured at too many photos, because the period of plenty “cheesy” smiles awaits you. March 2018, however, may be surprisingly interrupted by several privacy interventions. Changing your mailbox password for a new one, considerably longer (i.e. a verse of favourite poems without gaps) is a good idea. But Aries, the best advice of the horoscope is to live a sincere and virtuous life; that you do not have to be ashamed of anything private.

Forecast For MARCH 2018

CANCER June 21 - July 22

Cancer, make a step forward and focus on the ultimate appearance in March. It’s important, especially for your success and satisfaction. Do you want a Paris Boucheron perfume, a Burberry London scarf or Bvlgari earrings from Italy? Where to start? You do not need to have everything at once. But the horoscope tells that it will make you very happy when you show the unique and refined taste. Besides, even if you run let’s say a dog hotel, or if you own a garbage recycling factory, or if you work on a farm, it does not mean you should look poor. On the contrary, the March horoscope signals green on traffic lights, at least in the area of appearance and overall better impression.

TAURUS April 20 - May 20

Taurus, the father’s character should be enormously significant for you in March. It’s simply the question about your deep relationship with parents, especially with your dad, and also, how well you play the parental role yourself. All this with an emphasis on typical male qualities, such as strict discipline and authority. The horoscope for the third month of 2018 also announces sweet fruits. Your work and your private life will bring results. But do not expect miracles. Even wine must grow and mature until its grapes are sweet.

GEMINI May 21 - June 20

Gemini considering marriage in 2018 should know that March will be the perfect month for such an event. There is the awakening of nature from cold winter sleep on the program, but also the outburst of emotions that were silent but still hot under your calm face. Gemini can look like a sturdy bison, at first sight, standing still permanently. However, the horoscope reveals that in his or her mind, feelings start moving slowly, and that means his or her mighty body will come forward in a moment.

VIRGO August 23 - September 22 AQUARIUS January 20 - February 18 Swearing usually does not help to solve any problem, but much worse, it is not sexy at all. Aquarius, do not try to uncork the bottle with a powerful fairy genie inside, even when it may look promising in March – in other words, do not venture into a risky business, do not try to destroy your main competitor, nor go out on a challenging expedition to the depths of the Amazon forest. It could all go wrong. The horoscope advises Aquarius rather focus on everyday affairs and support of the closest family and friends.

Virgo, sharpening of all your senses will be typical in March of 2018. Especially hearing will be the source of unique pleasure, but sometimes also the cause of immense suffering. The beautiful melodies you may hear on a radio or in a cafe or in a concert hall, they will lift you up to heavens. But this euphoria may soon disappear, precisely in the moment when you will unintentionally hear the conversation of your neighbours and realize that your best friends are being slandered. The 2018 horoscope recommends to Virgo: do not interfere uselessly and do not try convincing everyone who is wrong. TULIP - MARCH, 2018 79

TAROT

LIBRA September 23 - October 22

SCORPIO October 23 - November 21

CAPRICORN December 22 - January 19

SAGITTARIUS November 22 - December 21

LEO July 23 - August 22

PISCES February 19 - March 20

“Cherchez la femme” – Seek the woman. March will be the month suppressing rest and peace, and especially women will play a key role in it (mom, sister, girlfriend, senior ...). Libra, it’s totally indifferent whether you’re going to build a tent in Africa to help Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), or if you will thread a needle to embroider your great family coat of arms or the personal birth sign for many evenings. Libra simply wants to see things moving and will not sit with arms folded.

According to the horoscope, March 2018 will turn into the gateway to the world of relaxation and rest. Capricorn, you should enjoy a stay in the spa, or at least repeatedly take a massage or visit a sauna and spend also one whole weekend in bed (if you are exhausted and work physically the whole week). It may also be useful for Capricorn to recall that “love is going through the stomach” (European proverb). Your darling will appreciate when you show him or her that you can’t only eat an excellent food but also prepare one, or at least choose a genuine delicacy from the menu.

It seems that you should concentrate on education. However, the February horoscope of 2018 shows Leo’s tasks in slightly different light. Leo’s mind will constantly hover in clouds, in the land of dreams and fantasy. Leo may simply fall in love. Who would in such case be interested in Excel charts? Who would be interested in the Latin name of the thigh muscle? Who would be interested in all the works of Ernest Hemingway when the most amazing “babe” is near you? A loud shot from a cannon, let alone an alarm clock, is useless in such case. 80 MARCH, 2018 - TULIP

Scorpio, it is a wonderful idea to go on a trip in March. The March horoscope marks the air element as very important and perhaps even as the crucial one. Thus travelling by plane can surely be recommended. If nothing else than try at least to “change the air” on weekends; or get a high-quality scent of home, the so-called “freshener”. However, you will do best when you will go to the countryside, on mountains or to some peaceful lake. The third month of 2018 can also be described as a period of expansion and growth. Scorpio will be successful at that time.

Sagittarius, love is not a procedure that could be captured in an Excel sheet. Similarly, it is not quite possible to express the power of your emotions by using a pie chart. However, this is very fortunate! Even if you may like having your feelings under control, March will convince Sagittarius that freedom and certain unpredictability are the pillars of true love. The monthly horoscope, therefore, urges Sagittarius: “Learn to perceive uncertainty as an obvious part of every relationship”

The horoscope estimates, that in 2018 Pisces will often suffer with “cold feet”, more precisely the intention to flee, when a situation starts to develop unfavourably. Especially in March. We don’t want to say that Pisces belong to cowards, but actually, Pisces often choose the way of the least resistance, they leave to others the pleasure becoming heroes or losers (of course with all the risks and possible honours). Pisces, in March, beware of injuries. One must hurry judiciously. Try to look calm and act with pride and dignity, even though you press the wrong floor button in the elevator.
