FROM THE EDITOR’S DESK we are what we dream We come into existence, we evolve and we survive. What matters at the end of it all is whether we got what we really and always wished for? Have we reached a destination we deserved? Have we turned our dreams to reality? Because there is no ecstasy, equal to the sense of accomplishment. For this to happen, heart and mind have to exist in consensus in order to permit in success of any measure and also to withstand it. Heart and mind must embrace similar idea(s) and opinion(s), only then shall we experience the prime of it. But where does it actually begin? The answer is - in our dreams! Dreams we see in the night are connected to thoughts we carry in our minds during the day. What we wish to see, hear, speak, feel and do are possible. Dreams manifest in mind and so it the onset of reality. But, real dreams are not which we see when we sleep. If we are destined to turn our dreams into reality, then they are something which does not let us sleep at all. I believe in that line whole honestly. Anjum Babu Khan, Director of Education at Glendale Academy, talks about her everyday’s schedule at work, the best thing about being what she is and what she loves to do, during free time. Expedition features Hawaiian Islands which are known to have the best beaches – the best place to visit any time in a year. Dogs and cats have proved to be the best companions to human beings, time and again. Check the coverage on the most adorable breeds to have as pets. Properties in Hyderabad have scaled new heights – get your access to the most affluent, yet affordable dream homes. THREE THINGS I LEARNED FROM THIS ISSUE Hyderabad yet again proves that the city is a storehouse of creative talents; by bringing the international Film Project to Hyderabad, which in itself is a huge achievement. Mango once again made a grand entrance this summer, as it always does and is welcomed just the same way. Summer doesn’t come alone! It brings with it all its close friends like - heat, radiations, diseases and other health problems. We need to keep ourselves safe all the time. We must be healthy to enjoy a great summer!

MEL GIBSON
BRANGELINA
To Sue Joe Eszterhas
Celebrating Their Engagement
H O L L Y W O O D
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie celebrated their much awaited engagement at Galápagos Islands. The couple and their six children - Maddox, 10; Pax, 9; Zahara, 7; Shiloh, 5, three-year-old twins Knox
and Vivienne, arrived by private plane in Baltra, Ecuador and then boarded a luxury yacht to the exclusive Royal Palm Hotel. Brad, 48, has reportedly proposed to Angelina by gathering their children and presenting her with an engagement ring. Angelina became emotional and said yes! After 7 years of being together, they were rejoiced to finally be engaged. The family shared an emotional moment when they hugged and shared the sight of the tablet shaped, 16 carat diamond engagement ring. Brad is said to have spent nearly one year designing the perfect engagement ring with the help of jeweller Robert Procop. The sources also said that the children, who have reportedly been after their parents to finally tie the knot, were extremely happy as well. The whole family was set off to celebrate and holiday in Galapagos Islands. We congratulate them on this happy occasion and are looking forward to witness one of the world’s grandest weddings ever.
Mel Gibson is seriously considering suing Joe Eszterhas for secretly recording him at his home in Costa Rica and then releasing the audio rant. The actor is furious and believes that it is indecent and that he has to have his privacy. He has a basic human right not to be recorded at his own home. Mel has employed people to check the laws of Costa Rica to determine if recording laws were violated and even if they weren’t, Mel’s right of privacy was violated by the release of the audio. The audio consisted of Mels’s outburst about Eszterhas’ lack of progress with the movie script for their upcoming film - The Maccabees and also unloads on Oksana Grigorieva using explicit slang and cuss words. Mel believes anyone recorded at their worst moment would sound awful and it’s unfair to trap people in their refuge. Joe Eszterhas has made allegations against Mel that he was talking about hating Jews and praised the guy who killed John Lennon. For his part, Gibson has denied most of the allegations but is dead furious at Joe Eszterhas.
BRITNEY SPEARS
Next X factor Judge?
Rumours are in and around Hollywood that singing sensation Britney Spears is going to be the next X-Factor judge. She has been offered a $15 million deal for becoming the newest X-Factor judge. Sources say, she has been considering to accept the deal by giving it a chance and joining the show after increasing her offer from $10 million last month. Simon Cowell, television producer and personality and the talent judge for the show, has reportedly approached Britney with the offer. She will become the official judge once the draft of the deal is finalized and signed by her dad and conservator Jamie Spears, who is a conservatorship lawyer and judge. Of course Jason Trawick, her soon-to-be husband, is also reportedly involved in overlooking the deal. Sources also say that Britney‘s team and X Factor authorities are working out on the fine points of the deal, but the major terms and conditions will remain the same. If proven to be true, Britney will be filling one of the two judge vacancies and is going to take away more than previous season judges Nicole Scherzinger who reportedly signed for $1.5 million and Paula Abdul who got $2.5 million. 12 MAY, 2012

AAMIR KHAN’S
Satya Meva Jayate
B O L L Y W O O D
The reality show is a unique idea based on the core of true India. It is going to be aired from 6th of May on Star Plus and DD 1 and Aamir Khan is all nervous and excited about it. He is deeply attached with the idea of the show and has been working on it for the past two years. Being the perfectionist that he is, Aamir has taken special care about his debut on television with a chat show. The theme song of the show penned down by Prasoon Joshi and composed by Ram Sampath, is already a hit among the audience. The show is all about portraying the real India. He brings out the truth of a common man; his joys, sadnesses, struggles, hardships and hopes. He has worked really hard and has travelled the length and breadth of the country. He is not looking to create any revolutions or beating his competitors through the show. He aims to promote the idea of the show and provide entertainment to his audience. The 13 episode composition will feature a different theme song each time. We are looking forward to the show too and we hope it will surely create a revolution just as it is.
SUNNY LEONE,
Official Indian Citizen
Canadian turned US porn-star turned Bollywood Actress - Sunny Leone has become an official resident of India. Also a businesswoman and model, the bombshell herself broke the news on Twitter. Well, it means that she is eyeing a full-fledged career in Bollywood. Named by Maxim as one of the 12 top porn stars in 2010, she has also played roles in independent mainstream films and television shows. The actor will be seen opposite Randeep Hooda in her first bollywood film Jism 2 produced by Pooja Bhatt and Dino Morea. Sunny has religiously been taking Hindi lessons and has been vigorously working out in the gym to have a more toned body. In 2011, she participated in the Indian reality series Bigg Boss, where she was approached by Mahesh Bhatt who entered the house briefly to offer her the lead role in Jism 2, making the launch a first time ever in the history of Indian Cinema. She accepted the offer readily and we are glad about it. We are looking forward to see the ultimate skin show and hope this much anticipated film will beat the records of all the other films.

SHAHID AND PRIYANKA
Back Together!
For a film of course! They will be seen opposite each other in Kunal Kohli’s next. The film will be titled - Teri Meri Kahaani. This film will see Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra sharing screen space after a long time after their super hit film - Kaminey. The relationship bloomed and subsided within a short span after the movie. We have to wait and see if the chemistry still exists. Priyanka saw success with Don 2 and Agneepath while Shahid hasn’t delivered any hits lately. Being one of Bollywood’s favorite Jodi, we’ll have to wait and see how Shahid and Priyanka get back and set the screen on fire. Teri Meri Kahani is going to be a three period love saga. It is known as thrice upon a love story, as the premise is set between 1910, 1960 and 2012. Each character plays a different role in each time period. The film is expected to release later this Summer. We will see both of them in complimenting roles of musician, actor, poet and others. Audience and critics are on full-swing. Let us hope, this movie will rekindle the lost spark between them. All the best!

INJURED RANA
Bipasha’s Concern
Bipasha Basu was all concerned about the well being of her ‘good friend’ Rana Daggubati who suffered an injury while filming an action sequence for the Telugu movie Krishnam Vande Jagatgurum. During the shoot, the actor was supposed to jump away from a bomb explosion but mistiming left him with severe burns on his left arm and a few glass pieces also pierced Rana’s arm. As soon as Bipasha Basu learnt of the accident, she expressed her concern over Twitter and wished Rana to get well soon. After the injury, Rana completed his shots for the day and then paid a visit to a hospital. He then rested for a week and resumed shooting. He is in good health now. Both of the actors were linked up during the shoot of Dum Maro Dum. They have also been rumours that they both are planning to get married. How much of it is true only they must know. They have denied any such news and claim to be good friends. Obviously there is no smoke without fire. Rana Daggubati is all excited about his second Bollywood film - Department. We hope his career blossoms and we hope to see their sizzling chemistry onscreen again soon.
RAM CHARAN ILEANA
Ready for Bollywood Leading South Indian actress Ileana, is currently making her Bollywood debut with Anurag Basu’s Ranbir Kapoor-Priyanka Chopra starrer - Burfee. Ileana is supposed to act as a 60 year old lady in the film and is working very hard to get into the skin of the character. A UTV Motion Pictures production, Burfee is expected to release later this Summer. After 3 idiots Tamil remake, she is now focused on her Bollywood debut and hopes to make her mark in the industry. Mostly, she is known for playing glamour centric roles but, she has taken up a challenging role in Burfee. The film promises to be a powerhouse of strong performances with Ranbir playing a happy-go-lucky deaf and dumb character, Ileana’s character is of a translator or a narrator who spans about 50 years and Priyanka playing the role of an autistic girl. On the sets of the show, Ileana is supposedly having a catfight with Priyanka Chopra but as always they keep denying it. Ileana has been performing really well, say the sources. It is time for us to see a new avatar of Ileana D’ Cruz all together. We wish her all the best for a great career ahead! 16 MAY, 2012
Entering Bollywood
Ram Charan Tej, after his recent hit Racha has become the highest paid actor in Tollywood. The actor is much in demand after bagging the lead role in Zanjeer remake, by director Apoorva Lakhia. This film is a remake of yesteryears blockbuster Zanjeer of Amitabh with the same name. This is the film that earned Amitabh, the angry-youngman image. According to the sources, Ram Charan is being paid 12.5 crores straight, making him the highest paid actor in Tollywood at the moment. His Bollywood debut is being made with a budget of 70 crores, which is low compared to other high budget movies being made these days, but still Ram is very excited and promises to deliver his fullest. He was ambiguous when first approached for the project as he feared doing injustice to the legendary actor’s role. But now, he is more focused on his work rather than anything else. He was encouraged by Big B himself whilst on the sets of the shoot. He personally visited Ram Charan and spoke to him for a long time. Ram Charan is all set to prove his mettle as an individual actor rather than Mega Star Chiranjeevi’s son.

IPL SEASON 5
Highlights, Controversies And Indepth Analisys They said – Cricket is a gentleman’s game. But when it’s about IPL and crazy Indian supporters, it’s never the same! The passion is undying, rush of emotions within is constant and excitement is unexplainable among Indian Cricket fans. IPL definitely had changed the face of Cricket. It has taken the game to a newer altitude and offered opportunities to budding and experienced Cricketers around the world. Let’s have a run down on best moments of IPL this year…
PRIETY ZINTA
S P O R T S
Much Ado About Nothing! Kings XI Punjab batsman Shaun Marsh’s controversial dismissal, when he edged a Brett Lee delivery with wicketkeeper Manvinder Bisla nodding that he had taken the catch and on-field umpire ruling him out even though TV replays suggested there was a doubt, resulted in Priety Zinta rushing onto the ground, out of her aisle just to involve in a unnecessary conversation with captain Adam Gilchrist. Gilly later calmed her down and pacified the situation, as he handled this issue all by himself. She then went straight back and sat down. He said – She is a passionate supporter, a team co-owner and a fan of this game. I do not know what she was going to say to me when I told her that I will handle this after which she respected that and sat down.
KEVIN PIETERSEN
Finally Joins The IPL Centurions’ Club Deccan Chargers dropped Kevin Pietersen three times on his way to his unbeaten 103, the second century of this IPL. It was an innings that condemned Chargers to their fourth straight defeat this season and left them winless at the bottom of the table. After taking three early wickets in defense of a below-par score of 157, Chargers were on course to turn their fortunes around, but Pietersen denied them. He took his team, Delhi Daredevils to the top of the table with his authoritative knock, his highest score in Twenty20 cricket and hit the most sixes in an IPL innings this season – nine, in the process. In the 20th over, Pietersen hit Ankit Sharma over his head to win the match and complete his century, leaving Chargers in no doubt that they were at least 15 runs short.
AB DE VILLIERS
Better Innings Than Ever Before! Royal Challengers Bangalore batsman AB de Villiers scored an amazing 14ball 33 and snatched a win from Pune Warriors. The wicket-keeper batsman admitted that it was Chris Gayle’s predatory knock that shattered the morale of the opposition bowlers. Needing 21 off the last over, Tiwary took a single on the first delivery of Ashish Nehra to give strike to de Villiers. The South African then smashed the second ball for a boundary and followed it by two consecutive sixes to make things easier for Bangalore. With four required of last two balls, Villiers took a single off the fifth ball to bring Tiwary back on strike. Then he sailed the final delivery into the crowd over the rope and finished the game for Bangalore. ‘The enormity of his ambition for the IPL, a phenomenal ability to notice a profit making opportunity and the attention to detail that allows for successful execution of good ideas, make Modi one of the finest decision makers in a fast-moving environment. The best word I have heard to describe him is audacious and it required audacity to take the IPL and convert it into a global sporting brand in a little over a year.’ -Harsha Bhogle admiring Lalit Modi.

THE MORNING BIRD
Personally, I am not into rituals, but I have been regular with my Namaz since I was 11. It’s important for me to leave worldly affairs and humble myself before the Divine, throughout the day, five times. I am conservative and have always been a goody two-shoes type of girl. Professionally, I am always trying to research and cocreate optimal learning environments and teaching techniques to enhance learning among children - be it in Pedagogy / Methodology, infrastructure or resources. We are constantly trying to improve and get better at what we do.
As much as I would love to be a morning person (because the early mornings are wonderful), I am a night owl. I can burn the midnight oil with ease. But early mornings are a challenge for me. I get up depending on my morning meeting schedule. On an ideal morning (which doesn’t happen all the time), I get up early enough to exercise for at least 25 minutes, Yoga for 5 minutes and meditation and breathing exercises for another 5 minutes.
WHAT I LIKE ABOUT MY PROFESSION
OVERCOMING PROFESSIONAL HURDLES
I love the eclectic variety, education offers. Moreover, one feels great to be involved in the building mind and character of the young, which will be there for the rest of their lives. It is intrinsically motivating to have the privilege and responsibility of cultivating the intellectual and social character of the future. Our logo at Glendale Academy reads - Sow a character, reap a destiny. We also believe in learning everyday and loving every minute! Einstein said - Knowledge is experience and everything else is just information. In education, we are giving children experiences which can forever transform their lives.
Now that’s what keeps you on your toes and keeps you growing! It’s also important to have some me-time to recharge and sharpen the saw, so that I can be cutting edge. Education is an absolutely wonderful profession! The calendar of events throughout the year not only keeps you on your toes, but can leave one’s head spinning! There is so much going on, never a dull moment in education among all the various academic subjects and co-curricular programs across all grade levels. The year’s activities range from art/culture to science to literary to sports and so on.
EDUCATIONAL PROFESSION My expertise is in multiple intelligences. We had a special visitor to Glendale which is one of the greatest moments of pride in the history of our institution. A person who is considered among the top 100 most influential public intellectuals in the world - The legendary Professor of Psychology of Harvard University – known throughout the world as the founding father of Theory of Multiple Intelligences – Dr. Howard Gardner! It is special because we, as an institution, foster the application of Multiple Intelligences. We have thoughtfully created learning places which are nurturing spaces for various multiple intelligences. His MI theory has been a guiding light for all of us to nurture a mind’s full potential. When I came across Dr. Howard Gardner’s theory, I was so passionate about Multiple Intelligences, that I started training teachers in it at a time when people had not even heard of what MI was! It’s now been over a decade and a half - I am proud to share that we have pioneered the application of MI methodology in Hyderabad and even other parts of India. When I moved from the United States to Hyderabad in 1995 – I felt genuinely concerned about the educational scenario. No matter which school I visited - I was left uninspired. Soon, I was a young mom - very much concerned about my children and what type of school they would be able to experience. I knew there had more to learning than what the usual chalk and talk - factory model class that was prevalent.
SUCCESS MANTRA Success is optimizing one’s potential and doing your absolute best and let God do the rest. Happiness is being content with what we have, at the moment. When it is good, one feels gratitude (shukr) and when it is challenging, one applies patience (sabr). We must always fluctuate between sabr and shukr just like the ebb and flow of ocean waves. Life is like an ocean - it keeps moving and changing so we need to glide along and realize that it does not always have to be sink-or-float situation. 30 MAY, 2012

HOBBIES AND WISHES I wish I could indulge in hobbies more often, but I am not so lucky. When I am, I like to read, dabble in creative activities or catch a good movie once in a while. I have a me-room, which I like to escape to, if I have the time on my upper terrace. It is filled with books, art supplies, comfy seating, DVDs and yoga mat. Right outside is a garden that is just getting completed. I would like to think of it as a healing sanctuary! Even if I can go for a half hour, I feel good. I like to get-together with a friend for a cozy lunch or tea to chat or even go out in the evening with my husband. Socializing for me is when you are able to share with a close friend or well-wisher about everyday trials and triumphs as we go through life and learn from one another. Pseudo-socializing and small talk is not too exciting. I would love to cook with the company of someone who is better at it than me like my sister. I am a foodie. But I am just nervous about trying new recipes. If I am really exhausted, I love to head to the spa. It gives one a chance to renew a tired body and soul. THREE OF YOUR MOST FAVOURITE BRANDS IN APPAREL / ACCESSORIES I like to get and wear whatever appeals to me without being stuck on a particular designer label. Comfort is just as important as style. I like to dress and accessorize in a variety of ways — ethnic, western, comfortable casual or sporty. Who doesn’t like to dress up once in a while? All women like fashion, but one has to see what suits one’s personality. I like how women can dress as they please, in Hyderabad. Any lunch or tea party – one can see styles across the spectrum – traditional anarkalis to Indo-western and even cocktail dresses! If you insist to name a few designers then, I like - Gucci, Dior, Channel and Blvgari.

anielle Steel tells an unforgettable story of survival of how two people who lost everything, find hope and of the extraordinary acts of faith and courage that bring and keep families together. On a windswept summer day, as the fog rolls across the San Francisco coastline, a solitary figure walks down the beach, a dog at her side. At eleven, Pip Mackenzie’s young life has already been touched by tragedy; nine months before, a terrible accident plunged her mother into inconsolable grief. But on this chilly July afternoon, Pip meets someone who fills her sad gray world with colour and light. And in her innocence and in his kindness, a spark will be kindled, lives will be changed and a journey of hope will begin. Pip reminds him of his own daughter at that age, before a bitter divorce tore his family apart and swept his children halfway across the world. With her own mother, Ophélie, retreating deeper into her grief, Pip spends her summer at the shore the way lonely children do: watching the glittering waters and rushing clouds, daydreaming and remembering how things used to be. That is, until she meets artist Matt Bowles, who offers to teach the girl to draw and can’t help but notice her beautiful, lonely mother. At first, Ophélie is thrown off balance by her daughter’s new companion, until she realizes how much joy he is bringing into their lives, despite the sadness she sees in his eyes. With grace and compassion, Danielle Steel explores the fragile bonds between mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, family members and lifelong friends. Her haunting, impassioned novel takes us across the complex landscape of loss to the blessings which that arise from even the darkest tragedies. At once, a story of triumph and a moving elegy to those who suffer and survive, Safe Harbour is perhaps her most powerful and life-affirming novel till date.

n Crystal Falls, Oregon Carly Adams feels like a new born ever since she had the operation that gave her the gift of sight especially now that she can see males. In high school she always wondered what the big deal was, but seeing Hank Coulter at a country and western bar explains everything. That night Hank and Carly make love, but though he is drunk he is shocked that she is a virgin. Six months later, Carly is pregnant from her only sexual encounter, which could destroy the good that the operation did for her eyes. When Hank learns she is pregnant with his child and her vision is threatened, he coaxes her into a marriage of convenience. Rather soon, Hank changes his mind on the state of matrimony as he wants Carly to wake up with the sight of him everyday. He also wants their child, but fears the cost to his beloved. Adding to his woes is that Carly does not believe her hedonistic husband has found love. Though one wonders why shy virgin Carly accepts a one night stand with Hank that seems out of character for her even if she is doing the town for the first time, fans will appreciate this angst-laden contemporary romance due to the dilemma confronting the heroine. Though Hank is a solid good time Charlie male, clearly the courageous Carly, acting brave in the face of personal disaster knowing that most likely either her child or her sight must go, makes the tale into a page turner. The audience will admire her inner strength and each one of us will wonder what we would do with this choice.

Take the road less travelled and get red dirt in your shoes whether you’re hiking along the 1,700 foot cliffs leading to Kalaupapa National Historical Park or discovering Papohaku Beach, one of Hawaii’s biggest white sand beaches. With some patience and a little luck, this once in a lifetime experience can be shared from either Papohaku Beach or Kapukahehu Beach (Dixie Maru Beach), the best spots on the island to watch the unobstructed sunset. Or spend magic hour at historic Kapuaiwa Coconut Grove, also known for its spectacular sunsets and watch the colours change between the swaying coconut trees. On Molokai, na-
ture sets a romantic tone. As night falls, from the west end to the east end, you’ll notice you’ve never seen the stars shine so bright, unaffected by city lights. The lack of streetlights, crowds and distractions will give you both a chance to get reacquainted with the constellations. The island of Hawaii is the youngest island in the Hawaiian chain and is also by far the biggest, providing a vast canvas of environments to discover a variety of unrivaled natural wonders. This is the home of one of the world’s most active volcanoes (Kilauea), the tallest sea mountain in the world at more than 33,000 feet (Maunakea), the most massive mountain in the world (Maunaloa) and the largest park in the state (Hawaii Volcanoes National Park). All but two of the world’s climate zones generate everything from lush rain forests to volcanic deserts, snow-capped mountaintops to beautiful black sand beaches. Whether you’re looking for a romantic getaway or a journey off the beaten path, you’ll discover it all here.

ART
ART THAT SPEAKS
Art is such a simple term but it is difficult to define. To a child, art is drawing and colouring. For celebrities, it is acting and entertaining. For designers, it is trend and fashion. For many, it represents their dreams. Art is significant because of the sense of fulfillment artists feel every time they finish masterpieces. Below presented are renowned personalities who have made their formidable marks in the field of art... ABOUT ARTIST - PRIYANKA POOGALIA Priyanka’s life is an amalgamation of shades of experience, colours of imagination and impressions of her action and reaction. She is textile graduate from MS University, Vadodara and MBA from Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies and with a background in Rural Management from IRMA. She chose to start her career with an NGO, dedicated to the cause of women which left lasting impressions in her life. Colours, Canvas and brush became the tools to express experiences of life, its celebrations and struggles. Nothing represents spectrum of life wider than womanhood. Essences of all expressions – Love, Hate, Dedication and Deceit – that a woman represent, makes the soul of her art work. Deeper reflection at her work reveals subtle nuances and provides insight into soul of the painting. Her forte is contemporary, figurative and abstract art. Her favourite medium for paintings is charcoal and acrylic. She believes, when charcoal takes the form of art, it magically transforms into diamond.
ABOUT HER WORKS Can anyone capture the deep connections of a mother and child on a piece of paper? Can anyone discover and display the powerful human emotions that a woman goes through in her life? One such audacious attempt has been made by her to connect the dots, draw the lines and fill it with shades of colours. And with this attempt, she has come out with a remarkable series of paintings titled - Through Her Eyes. Any art work with woman as its central character presents interesting set of contradictions. Though an artist has spectrum of emotions to portray, each emotion is dramatically strong and needs deep visualization ability to do the justice to the subject. While the subject is as simple as an open book, artist bears the onus to showcase the mystical treasures of emotions flowing Through Her Eyes. Her work also delves into one of the most important part of woman’s life – Motherhood. The most pristine of human relations is the one between the mother and the child. Price Range - All paintings are priced between 5,000/- and 25,000/Contact - Priyanka Poogalia www.artsfromheart.com +91 9293053237 +91 9966507002
ABOUT SYED ALI ARIF Over the course of establishing myself in the world of art, I have touched subjects like Indian Mythology, Buddhism, Islam, Sexuality, Christianity, Hinduism, Rural India, Performing Arts, Individuality and Self-Identity. It has been a slow but rewarding journey and my work is increasingly gaining popularity on national and international soils. ‘There are some parts of the world which, once visited, get into your heart and won’t go. For me, India is such a place. When I first visited, I was stunned by the richness of the land, by its lush beauty and exotic architecture, by its ability to overload the senses with the pure, concentrated intensity of its colours, smells, tastes and sounds. I have seen the world in black & white and when brought face-to-face with India, I experienced everything re-rendered in brilliant Technicolor.’ — Keith Bellows, National Geographic Society.

Mango Mania ango is the talk of the town, the new eye-candy and the much awaited celebrity of the season. People wait for Summer, more for the mangoes, than mere vacations. These juicy fruits start teasing us from Spring, blossom into greens, then turn ripe and satisfy our urge to gallop and savour them…
Mangoes! Visualizing these brings back thousands of childhood memories - the way we climbed trees, stole mangoes from others farms, planted the seeds after eating the fruit, checking on it every summer, engraving our names on the bark of the tree. Green mango with salt and chili powder was the handy snack during summer and also we could make pickles, chutney, jam, jelly, juice, smoothies, salads, salsas, milkshakes, sweets, curries, dal and many more mouth-watering dishes. The fruit is irresistible! It leaves a sensation within that will make you crave for it more. ‘In many households, making mango pickles is considered as a ritual. All the family members gather around and take up one task, sing the native songs, laugh and celebrate. It is a tedious task but when it’s done as a team, it brings our cheer and makes us forget the strenuous efforts it goes into making. It is a symbol of celebration.’
MANGO VARIETIES
Mangoes come in several shapes and sizes. There are more than three hundred types of mangoes in India alone, of them the most famous ones are - Alphonso, Banganpalli, Beneshan, Chaunsa, Dussehri, Himayat, Langra, Rajapuri, Ratnagiri, Totapari and many more. Every mango has a specialty of its own –

SUMMER CONCERNS AND PREVENTIVE MEASURES
S
ummer is here and it brings with it, a series of skin and other health problems. It came earlier this year and it is not only about rising mercury levels, but also about the transforming weather changes and its dangerous effects upon the skin. There are a lot of health concerns. We are in for a long summer. We need to be careful. We need to protect ourselves from more than one problem. With holidays for everyone, it’s time for outdoor activities but beware - the mighty sun is not just lurking around the corner, but is on full swing with his clutches right above our heads. Casual exposure to the sun has moderate beneficial impact, including the production of vitamin-D by the body; but excessive exposure to ultraviolet rays has detrimental health effects, including possible sunburn and even skin Cancer as well as depressed immune system function and increased risk of accelerated aging.
Sun rays bring along with them, a host of other things like UV and infrared radiations. We need to keep ourselves protected constantly, all through Summers, indoors or outdoors. Below mentioned are a few common Summer health complains and ways to prevent – DEHYDRATION
Your body contains 75% water. You need to be well hydrated to maintain the balance, particularly during summers. But many forget to replace all the fluid they lose through urine and summer sweat. Work or play during the hot summer months can cause the body to lose a large amount of fluid and if the fluid is not replenished, this can result in dehydration. Fluid is necessary for blood to reach the major organs. The symptoms of dehydration include - weakness, unusual headache, muscle cramps, impaired judgment, confusion and sudden loss of consciousness. In the presence of these symptoms, the victim should be taken at once to the nearest emergency room. To avoid this, be sure to take plenty of water or other drinks with you any time you are going to be outdoors in warm temperatures. Dehydration can be one of the most formidable summer health risks for women. In extreme cases, those who are dehydrated will experience weakness, dizziness, palpitations, confusion, sluggishness, fainting and the inability to sweat. Avoid drinking alcohol as it is a diuretic and impedes your ability to accurately judge your level of dehydration. If you have trouble drinking water, suck on a Popsicle or ice chips or if you are exercising heavily, you may want to use an electrolyte-replacement drink. Coconut water is a good, all-natural choice for electrolyte replacement. Other 48 MAY, 2012
commercial brands may have excessive sugar that can lead to further dehydration. When exercising, drink eight ounces before and every 30 minutes during activity. Freezer pops and sports drinks are great for staving off thirst for longer periods.
SUNBURN
To protect yourself from harmful UV rays, stay out of direct sunlight during the peak hours; cover up by wearing hats, sunglasses and long-sleevedshirts and stay in a shaded spot or take an umbrella with you. Prevent sunburn by using sunscreens with titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, which are physical barrier type sunscreens that protect you from both UVA and UVB rays. And if you do happen to get burned, sponge your burn with cooled chamomile tea, since it contains great anti-inflammatory properties. You can also use aloevera gel because of its soothing, antiinflammatory properties. Sunscreen lotions of optimum SPF (sun protection factor) should be used. Apply 30 minutes before going outside for your skin to fully absorb it. Even if your sunscreen says it’s waterproof, it probably isn’t, so re-apply often after swimming and sweating. Wear a hat too!
People with very dry or sensitive skin are at higher risk for developing serious skin conditions. Eczema doesn’t sound charming to begin with, and neither does its scientific name - atopic dermatitis. Many people develop this incurable condition during childhood, but the heat is one element that works to aggravate it. Prevent it by experimenting with moisturizers to see which one your skin likes best. Steroid creams and non-steroidal antiinflammatory balms help prevent Eczema flare-ups. Avoid gels and greasy moisturizers which clog pores. Bathing frequently also helps keep the skin moist.
OVERHEATING
Just like your computer, your car engine and your barbecue grill, your body functions in an optimal temperature range. If you fail to cool it down when it gets too hot, you can suffer from heat stress (fatigue), heat cramps in your arms and legs or worse. Heat exhaustion, characterized by nausea and headaches, requires medical attention, especially if you want to avoid a full-blown heat stroke. Prevent it by keeping yourself hydrated. Also, seek the shade or an air-conditioned room once in a while. Eat saltier foods to retain water and treat yourself to some ice cream.
EYE DAMAGE
We may be concerned with keeping our skin shielded from the sun, but your eyes need to be protected too since UV exposure can lead to Glaucoma and Cataract. Wearing sunglasses not only protects our eyes, but the delicate tissue around our eyes as well. Long-term exposure can result in photo-Keratitis, sunburn of the cornea, which can lead to vision loss. Prevent it by not skimping on sunglasses. Get shades which offer 100% protection from both UVA and UVB radiations. Polarized sunglasses help reduce glare, giving you a visibility bonus. The bigger the glasses, the greater will be the protection.
HEAT EXHAUSTION
Heat exhaustion is an early warning sign that you’re body is getting too hot. It occurs because your body is no longer able to regulate its core temperature due to dehydration. Not drinking enough fluids in hot weather can cause serious health risks and even be life threatening. Heat stroke symptoms include a fast pulse, short, rapid breathing and confusion. Heat exhaustion is an illness that can occur after being in hot temperatures for several days. The symptoms would include heavy sweating, headache, nausea or vomiting, weakness or fainting. Heat exhaustion can lead to heat stroke, which is a medical emergency. Prevent it by drinking
SPECIAL
more water than usual. Eat water-rich fruits like - watermelons, muskmelons, oranges, etc. Wearing hats and scarves can also protect you from heat exhaustion. To prevent heat stroke, stay well-hydrated, rest often, take cool baths or showers and wear lightweight clothing.

SKIN PROBLEMS
KEEP YOURSELF HEALTHY AND SAFE BY l
Avoid foods which cause sweating, such as hot curries.
l
If you’re a non-vegetarian, you should limit red meat and instead go for fish and oysters.
l
Take bottles of water with you, if you’re going out for any length of time.
l
Ripe summer fruits - peaches, plums, melons and pears, are exactly what your skin craves for in the hot season. Citrus fruits are also very cooling. Eat whole or extract their juice, store in the refrigerator and sip often throughout the day.
l
Avoid caffeinated and carbonated beverages.
l
Alcohol is a hot drink and must not be used during this season, either avoid it or drink it with plenty of water.
l
Consuming leafy lettuce and summer greens, corn on cob and cucumbers, in salads are delicious ways to stay cool. These foods contain a significant amount of water and can actually thin the blood, which has a cooling effect. Onions too are great in the summer, because of their ability to beat the heat and provide relief from summer ailments. So, throw in some washed onion slices onto a sandwich or in your salad.
l
If you have Asthma or other respiratory problems, limit your time outdoors on days that have moderate to poor air quality outlooks. Plus, don’t forget to take your inhaler or other medication when you go out.
l
Wear appropriate shoes for your outdoor activities. If you’re doing a lot of walking or other sports activities, skip those stylish summer sandals. Avoid blisters and sprains by choosing a good pair of walking shoes. Wear them with comfortable, cotton socks.
l
Take a rest. Don’t push beyond your physical limits.
l
Wear light, loose-fitting clothing to help you stay cooler. Try to avoid dark color clothing, as this absorbs more heat than light colours.
l
Protect your skin with sunblock and stay in cool and shaded areas. Use an umbrella every time you walk out in the hot sun.
‘Inadequate fluids in our body could cause lethargy or crankiness. By the time we feel thirsty, we are already dehydrated. Drinking water, plenty of it and at regular intervals; would help ward off the ill effects of dehydration. To figure out how much, follow the half-rule. Drink half the body weight in ounces (ounce = 30 mls). That’s only our daily requirement; we still need to replace the extra losses during summer. While caffeinated drinks could do more harm; fruits like watermelon prove to be quite handy. Wearing lighter clothes helps reduce sweating. Remember - when we exercise, we lose salt along with water, which needs to be replaced too.’ - Dr. Vijay Anand, Axon Pain Center (Banjara Hills)

NDIA TAKES FASHION NDUSTRY BY STORM Designer labels and branded logos define Indian fashion today. And not just international ones, but the Indian designers are hot favorites. Hollywood A-listers like - Julia Roberts, Fergie, Nicki Minaj and others have all worn creations by Indian Designers. So why look out for international, when we have tons of creativity pouring within our country? India has seen a tremendous growth in fashion industry, over the last 10-15 years and fashion weeks have played an immense role in this success story. No one can deny the importance of fashion weeks in any context. Two of the major fashion events which take place in India are - Wills India Fashion Week and Lakme Fashion Week. LFW has been conceived and created with a vision to re-define the future of fashion and integrate India into the global fashion world, whereas WIFW; Asia’s biggest business of fashion event, works with an objective to encourage and endorse designers to grow their brands nationally and internationally and also to widen their customer base every year. Lakme fashion week is held twice a year in Mumbai and is considered as one of the most premier fashion events in India. The first event took place in 1999, where top international model Naomi Campbell had taken part. International labels such as Roberto Cavalli, Louis Vuitton and Dolce and Gabbana have showcased their collection in the LFW. 54 MAY, 2012

Apart from these two major events; India, in the past few years, has witnessed a sudden rise in fashion weeks - the Chennai Fashion Week, the Bangalore Fashion Week, the Hyderabad Fashion Week, the Kolkata Fashion Week, the India International Fashion Week, the Jaipur Fashion Week, the Pune Fashion Week, the India Resort Fashion Week and India Kids Fashion Week. While talking of fashion labels, Hyderabad today is making quite an impression on the fashion map. Urging people to flaunt their distinctive style, fashion designers are churning out a mix of classic retro, boho chic and avant garde. After touring several cities, The Blender’s Pride Fashion Tour reached the city of Nizams, where designers like - Neeta Lulla, Rocky S, Vikram Phadnis, Raakesh Agarwal showcased their collections. The Hyderabad Fashion Week is another very important fashion event held in Hyderabad which is conceptualized to promote Hyderabad based fashion industry. Hyderabad does not only get big Indian brands to the city, but has also created extremely creative designers like - Asmita Marwa and Anand Kabra. And when talking about fashion shows and designers, how can we forget the models? Modeling in India is becoming a thriving and most sought after profession for young Indian men and women. Naomi Campbell was called to India for the first Lakme Fashion Week but today Indian models like - Ujjwala Raut, Lakshmi Menon, Padma Lakhmi, Jyothsna Chakravarthy, Muzamil Ibrahim and Joey Matthew are ruling the international ramp. So it’s not just international brands and models making a wave. It’s time to get noticed and it’s time to take what is comfortable and make it stylish. It’s time to look around and see not just Shahrukh Khan or Aishwarya Rai wearing Prada or Chloe, but Lady Gaga and Katy Perry flaunting a Manish Arora, Fergie performing in Falguni and Shane and Pussycat dolls getting clicked in Rocky S.
I
ndia has been an inspiration for the west, in terms of culture and heritage. Designers in the west have often looked towards India to source fabrics and embroideries. But in terms of India arriving as a fashion capital, is a long way. Very few designers from India have actually made a mark in the international scene. Fashion in India is still emerging as we are in our infancy. It’s only recently, that the government had recognized this as an industry. India has a lot going on for it, as we have immense talent, but we need a proper system to take us forward. Hyderabad is an exciting market right now as people here love to experiment and spend a lot on fashion. But I feel we need a lot more designer stores to make Hyderabad a more stylish place. - Asmita Marwa Pussy Cat Dolls - Rocky S show The globalization of Indian fashion industry could not have come at a better time. Indian designers have made a mark internationally by experimenting traditional textiles in western silhouettes earlier. However, today it’s not just that, the Indian drapes, the sari and other classic silhouettes have become trendy among international celebrities. Be it Lady Gaga, Julia Roberts, Angelina Jolie or Pamela Anderson everyone has flaunted their Indian avatars. Fashion and cinema go hand-inhand! A lot of credit also goes to the Indian film industry for its strong influence on the growing fashion trends globally. Not to forget that the luxury domestic market is also at its boom, people are much more aware today. India’s strength lies in its rich culture and this reflects in its varied textiles produced across the length and breadth of the country. We have the most skilled artisans who do the finest intricate hand embroideries and weaves. This is something which we need to be proud of and makes us stand apart. - Ganesh Nallari, Fashion & Textile Designer

FILMS MADE IN 48 HOURS! Film is the new mega entertainer these days! It is not just a boy-meets-girl; they fall in love, two songs, two fights and then a happy ending! Movies have changed, moreover transformed. The approach of people towards movies is changing. It isn’t just a mere entertainment; it is serving to be much more. It is a voice, an idea. People are aspiring to become film makers. Films are proving to be the mettle proving assets - to showcase your worth, talent and creativity. They are challenging and adventurous. It is not a child play, it is not a one man task, but a team work…
To encourage aspiring film makers; many projects, film festivals and competitions are being conducted. One such platform is the international film festival, which was recently held in town. And it was special, with a difference! The challenge was to come up with a film that is purely run on their instincts, without pre-planning or prior thoughts - to write, direct, shoot, edit, add original sound with dubbing, with their own scripts, equipment, sound, crew and lights - in just 48 hours. Annapurna International School of Film and Media hosted the world’s largest and most popular short film competition, in Hyderabad - The 48 Hour Film Project. Hyderabad was included on the world tour as the India Producers, Yogi Chopra and Preeti Gopalkrishnan felt that with a throbbing film culture and lots of impetus to filmmaking, Hyderabad was the best place to spread their wings. An apt stage for amateur and professional, as well as the young and old creative filmmakers of the city! A more balanced list of participants was observed here than anywhere else. It was hosted for the first time in India in Mumbai (2010) and in Delhi (2011). And this time, in Hyderabad. The 48 HFP was started in May 2001 by Washington DC-based filmmaker duo, Mark Ruppert and Liz Langston who came up with the crazy idea of making a short film in 48 hours! A decade later, with more than 56 MAY, 2012
400 competitions, nearly 60,000 filmmakers made 4,000 films in 96 cities in 6 continents. 60 teams comprising professional, amateur and student filmmakers have signed up to take part in the Hyderabad competition. There were participants also from Bengaluru, Delhi and Chennai. This journey started off at the Annapurna International School of Film and Media on 6th April at 7 pm, when the teams were given their genre of movies which formed the base of their blueprint. One representative of every team had to draw a chit for a genre, on which their movie was based. About 14 genres were enlisted including - Comedy, Dark Comedy, Detective/Cop, Drama, Fantasy, Film de Femme, Horror, Mockumentary, Musical or Western, Romance, Sci-Fi, Silent Film, Thriller/Suspense, Vacation or Holiday Film. After the genres were selected, the filmmakers were given the option to trade in their genre for a Wild Card Genre that included - Adventure Serial, Buddy Film, Coming of Age, Family Film, Period Piece, Road Movie, Time Travel Movie and Film de Femme. However, three compulsory elements in the movie were announced as keys, (as the prop); Adil Ravinder (Adiba), a writer, (as a character in the movie) and an essential dialogue which goes like - ‘…And, that’s how it all started.’
‘The event went out successfully. The quality could have been better but it was a good effort. It was the first time in the city, so awareness was critical. Media write-ups helped a lot. We focused on all kinds of audience. Annapurna, being the golden sponsor, helped a lot! Facebook and poster campaigns helped too. We also succeeded in reaching IT professionals, BPO employees and other common people. The participants range from total non film-makers to professionals.’

The results were announced on 14th April at St. Mary’s college, with Vinoothna Geetha bagging the cash prize from ISFM of Rs. 50,000/- for the Best Film Anukokunda and a trophy from 48 HFP. They also won the award for the best musical score and best actor female. For Hire and The Legend of Bribia have won the first and second runner-up awards respectively. Other awards were also given away to many of the participants. Chandana Khan, principal secretary (Tourism and Archaeology) presented the awards to the winners.

The jury members were Deva Katta of Prasthanam fame, P Suneel Reddy, national award winning Director, Charurvedi Nivas, popularly known as editor Nivas and Madhu Mahankali, Director of Photography. The judges were looking for creativity, content and the ability to hold the grip of the audience for a good 5-7 minutes, technical superiority took a back seat.
‘Our genre was romance. We are a six member team of short film makers. One of us is a game designer and the other is a corporate and ad film-maker. The project taught us a lot about film making! It is an original concept. Music played a great role in our film. We got great tracks from Kartik, an engineering final year student. The aim of our film was to make audience smile.’ - Vinoothna Geetha (the group which won the 48-hour film project. They are very excited on their victory and are planning to go to Goa to celebrate).
- Preeti Gopalakrishna and Yogi Chopra (Organizers)
After 48 sleepless and strenuous hours of hard work and running around, the teams rushed to submit their short films. In the 60 teams which enrolled; 45 made films, of which 27 were on-time entries, 18 late entries and 15 were no shows.
‘The journey was fun, hectic and challenging. Everything depended on time management and team work. We got the mokumentary genre. Our film is called 5-d mafia in which the camera acts as a gun. If you shoot someone with the camera they die. We faced many difficulties from power cuts to team coordination; we hardly slept for one hour. We wrote the dialogues on the spot but we had lots of fun! It was an experimental and adventurous experience.’ - Creative Gundas (one of the participant groups who won the best use of character award).
‘We had only 24 hours to finish our film as we had our final exam on the first day. Our genre was dark comedy. We planned something; it turned out to be something else. We edited it differently. It is drastically different from our original idea. Our movie doesn’t make any sense in many parts. We just had lots of fun.’ - Vidhwan Reddy, Team V. ‘The 48 HFP focused on a wide variety of films. It entirely depends on the creativity of the person. We observed a lot of variations in editing. We got to see great actors. There is newness in amateur films and professionalism in the others. The biggest difficulty we faced was the time constraint. We did not have time even to go to the washroom. In those tight circumstances coming up with such amazing films is a very great deal.’ - Sarath Babu and Nihar Mamidipudi, BAN Group. Totally Rs. 75000/- worth gift vouchers from Spykar Jeans were given away to the winners. The event was a huge success and was a commendable effort of many. Hyderabad’s winning Best Film will compete with 100 others on the world tour to vie for the Best International Film prize of the Filmapalooza, the international screening and awards weekend. The event ended on a positive note and hopes to continue at Hyderabad in the coming years.

AANCHAL Ours is a close-knit family and we bond well. We spend quality time with our children. Almost all the time, my husband (Jai) gets off from work is spent with the family. Our elder son Ranveer, who is just 12 years young, has turned out to be a very loving and caring child because of this bonding and has a strong sense of family values. He is the peace maker during our little fights. Our younger son Reyansh of course, is only a year old and the whole family just dotes on him. Ranveer has seen him grow from day one and is extremely attached to him. My husband is a complete family man and loves the children more than anything else. Mine was a love marriage and although it may sound clichéd, it was the proverbial love at first sight for us, when we met at a wedding. The best moment of my life was my marriage, as not many people get to marry the one they love. During my working days, my first preference always used to be my family and children. In my husband’s opinion, I have always been a hands-on mother. And for me, it can’t be any other way. Though I love socializing and partying, my husband and family always come first.

GOOD OLD TRAVEL MEMORIES Our best travel memories are from our 45-day vacation to Europe, which was magical. We visited most parts of Europe – Eiffel tower (Paris) was spectacular! Disney Land was the most memorable place which took us back in time. We had been to Madame Tussauds in London too. The open bus city tour to Buckingham Palace, where the queen guards still parade out the palace and south hall city - have been great visual pleasures. Nightlife in London was amazing! We partied till wee hours. Cirque du Soir, Movida, Mahiki were also a few places we visited. Shopping in Paris will remain an unforgettable experience. Geneva was the most beautiful and a scenic place. It was paradise on earth. There was love in the air! Tenerife, Barcelona and Malaga in Spain were spectacular. The clear blue water beaches, water sports, parasailing and bungy jumping were an experience of a life time. We shopped at St.Mark’s Square and had Sangrias, where the Spanish singers played their instruments and we sang and danced. Venice in Italy was the most romantic place that we had ever visited. It was so scenic; it looked right out of a picture. The beautiful gondolas that took us around were mesmerizing. The most striking thing I found there was the public display of affection for each other by most couples. You can feel the romance in the air. It eclipsed everything else. Dubai was where we witnessed belly dancing, desert safari and we shopped till we dropped. The Gold Souk market was where we got to see heaps of gold coins in the chest and of course, gold goblets. Each store had something exclusive to exhibit. Over all, we certainly did have the time of our lives.
RAPIDFIRE One best thing about each other Jai – Aanchal is bubbly and friendly. Aanchal – He is caring and compassionate. He is my advisor. My life would be incomplete without him. Weakness Jai –Aanchal is gullible. She cannot differentiate between good and bad and gets carried away quickly. Aanchal – Jai’s weakness is our family. Strengths Jai – Aanchal gives her best in whatever she does in life. Aanchal – Jai is absolutely in control of every situation he goes through. He is a wise decision maker. Describing each other in three words Jai – Aanchal is love of my life, fun-loving and beautiful. Aanchal – Man of my dreams, he completes me and he is my soul mate. How do you balance professional and personal lives Jai – I party mostly during the weekends.

TORQUE AND ELEGANCE VOLKSWAGEN GIUGIARO BRIVODO The latest concept car from Italian styling house Italdesign Giugiaro shows what such a car might be like. Called the Brivido, it was unveiled at this week’s Geneva Motor Show. Volkswagen recently bought a majority share of Italdesign, so the Brivido rides on a VW platform. The Brivido is a four-seat GT car with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Unlike rival Pininfarina, Italdesign did not follow the trend of coupe-like sedans; their car only has two doors. The gull wings make quite a statement and the roof is almost entirely glass. Italdesign says this design improves visibility while making the cabin more pleasant. The driver gets touchpads on the steering wheel to operate the sound system, climate control and more, while the passenger gets their own instrument panel with trip information and controls for the entertainment systems. The car also has an iPad dock built into the dashboard. Underneath the styling and technology, is a VW-sourced chassis with a 360 hp 3.0-liter V6, coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission and an electric motor. Italdesign says the combination is good for a 0-62 mph (0-100 kph) run of 5.8 seconds and a top speed of 171 mph. The Brivido makes a pretty good case for a future collaboration between Volkswagen and Italdesign. The German company (along with corporate sibling Audi) helped improve the quality of brands such like Lamborghini and Bentley, so the concept has already been applied to real-world vehicles. Among the German companies, VW could use an infusion of style the most. With the redesigned Jetta and Passat, the company went for sheer mass appeal at the cost of style or uniqueness. The Brivido is just a concept car, but it shows what the marriage of German engineering and Italian styling can produce. It could also foreshadow a world-beater from Volkswagen. The wide gullwing doors and sliding asymmetrical front seats have been optimized for passenger entry. Titan-Tex and raw cut seams are unique materials and techniques used in Giugiaro’s latest creation. Aluminum and carbon fiber are used extensively on the exterior, but so is glass. Beyond the roof, windshield, rear hatch and side windows, it is used on the doors as a structural component. Not only a design cue, it houses airbags in case of pedestrian impact. While the exterior is relatively tame for a design concept, the Brivido’s interior is on complete display overload. SPECIFICATIONS – 62 miles per hour in 5.8 seconds, continuing all the way to 171 miles per hour, v6 engine, 360 hp.
LYONHEART K – JAGUAR E-TYPE Besides being Jaguar’s most iconic vehicle, and arguably one of the most iconic sports cars ever, it comes as no surprise that a company would look to honor the E-Type’s legacy by bringing forth a modern reinterpretation. Classic Factory, a Swiss design company, has partnered with Swedish designer Bo Zolland to create the Lyonheart K. The body of the Lyonheart K is comprised of lightweight carbon fiber while the chassis is made of aluminum. This is one beauty that doesn’t mind showing off its curves. Beating inside the Lyonheart, is a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 that pumps out a healthy 542 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque. The spiritual successor to the E-Type can achieve an electronically limited maximum speed of 186 miles per hour, and is able to make the dash from 0-62 mph in less than four seconds, making it one fast cat. The 5.0 L supercharged V8 delivers 550 horsepower and 69.3 kgf / m of torque. Panels of carbon fiber covers an aluminum chassis state-of-the-art, to keep the weight below 1.600 kg. The Lyonheart K Jaguar E Type reaches 100 km / h in under 4 seconds and reaches 300 km / h (electronically limited). The design philosophy is simple and uses only genuine materials: carbon fiber, leather, lacquer, polished stainless steel, brushed aluminum and chrome. SPECIFICATIONS – 6 speed automatic transmission which enable 1576 kg car to accelerate from 0 – 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and the limited top speed around 300 km/h, 650 Nm (502 lb-ft) of torque, 2752 mm wheelbase. The Lyonheart K measures 4749mm in length, 1893mm in width, 1289 mm in height and has a 2752mm wheelbase. 62 MAY, 2012
AUTOMOBILES
A car has been born that will expand your horizons, bringing the thrill and inspiration of driving to new levels. It is the new Maserati GranCabrio Sport, the perfect choice for those in search of that wind-in-your-hair sensation combined with the excitement of finely-tuned, sports-car handling. A stunning model, concealing an aggressive, high-performance soul beneath an inimitably elegant appearance. Extending the range with a version that is even more dynamic and sporty is typical of our marque’s philosophy. The GranCabrio and GranCabrio Sport are similar in spirit but with different detail. They have been created to offer customers the opportunity to choose the model that best meets their needs. The grille, traditionally a distinctive feature on Maserati vehicles, echoes the elegance of models from a classic era like the A6G-54 Frua Spyder. Black vertical slats feature on the GranCabrio Sport’s grille and black is the colour that borders the headlight cluster with its white indicators. The front winglets, door handles and mirrors are in tone with the car’s bodywork, as are the side skirts. These give the GranCabrio Sport its purposeful look but also play a key role in its aerodynamics. The GranCabrio Sport is a true four-seater that allows all its occupants to enjoy an open-air driving experience. The rear seats provide an equal level of support and comfort as well as being sporty. The Trofeo Design gearshift paddles, standard on this model, are fixed to the steering column and are now slightly longer to ensure ease of use irrespective of the steering angle. The brakes and accelerator play an important role in overall safety and driving pleasure: on the GranCabrio Sport the pedals are in perforated aluminium and the demands of sports driving were taken into account in their design. The transmission operates in five modes - Auto Normal, Auto Sport, Manual Normal, Manual Sport and Ice. An uprated Skyhook suspension system is fitted as standard to this car and features aluminium dampers that constantly adjust the ride. Skyhook is managed by a control unit that receives data from acceleration sensors positioned on each wheel and on the chassis.

FERRARI F12 BERLINETTA The best part is that it is the most powerful high-performance Ferrari road car ever launched. The new F12 Berlinetta was designed by the Ferrari Styling Center in cooperation with Pininfarina. It is powered by a V12 engine with an impressive output of 740 HP - an increase of 120 HP over the previous 599 GTB Fiorano. This increase in power also comes with a decrease of fuel consumption, specifically a 30% reduction. With a total weight of just 3362 lbs, the top speed goes up to over 211 mph. Ferrari has also announced that the new model lapped the Fiorano circuit in 1:23, faster than any other Ferrari road car. It is the result of a co-operation between the Ferrari Styling Center and Pininfarina. Since the F12 Berlinetta was designed to be the most powerful high performance Ferrari road car ever created, the company’s traditional transaxle layout had to be modified. The wheelbase was shortened and the engine, dashboard, and seats were situated lower in the chassis. The layout of the rear suspension and gearbox was also modified, allowing for a decrease in rear volume as well. The Ferrari’s chassis also had to be revised in order to withstand the added power of the new sports car. These alloys were joined together using new techniques that allowed for a 20% increase in structural rigidity and a reduction of weight, down to 1525 kg/3362 lbs (70 kg/154 lbs less than the previous V12 Coupé). It features the most advanced technology with sophisticated, handcrafted detailing. The dashboard features new carbon fiber and aluminum air vents clearly inspired by the aeronautic field. The cockpit was designed around the driver with all the major commands within immediate reach to guarantee maximum ergonomics for the most involving driving experience. The interior is wrapped in all-new Frau leather and comes with additional luggage capacity behind the seats. Despite the 120 HP increase, the fuel consumption has been reduced by 30%. The engine is mated to the F1 dual-clutch transmission and has a specific output of 118 HP/l. Ferrari also opted for two innovative solutions: the first of these is the Aero Bridge which uses the bonnet to generate down force by channeling air away from the upper part of the car to its flanks where it interacts with the wake from the wheel wells to decrease drag. The second is Active Brake Cooling, a system that opens guide vanes to the brake cooling ducts only at high operating temperatures, again reducing drag. As a result, the F12berlinetta’s down force has been boosted by 76% (123 kg at 200 km/h). SPECIFICATIONS – 6262 total displacement, 740 CV at 8,500 rom maximum power output, 690 Nm at 6,900 rpm maximum torque, maximum speed – over 340 km/h (0 – 100 km/h in 3.1 seconds).

MICROSOFT EXPLORER TOUCH MOUSE
The sleek Explorer Touch Mouse is the newest addition to the Microsoft touch family. Featuring a low-profile design, Explorer Touch Mouse speeds up everyday tasks with a touch strip optimized for quick vertical and horizontal scrolling. Touch scrolling is a cooler way to scroll. It’s more natural and intuitive than a scroll wheel, allowing navigating with speed and control. Explorer Touch Mouse is optimized for high-speed scrolling through long documents, spreadsheets and web pages. You can breeze past what you don’t need with the flick of a finger and stop with a gentle tap. Explorer touch mouse has not only sleek looks, but also has the features you can rave about. Explorer touch mouse also has a battery life of up to 18 months and comes with BlueTrack Technology. Use it as you want to, with five customizable buttons and customizable right or left-handed use. SPECIFICATIONS - BlueTrack sensor, works exclusively with Windows 7, nano-tranceiver slot on the mouse itself, works really well on just about every surface, super comfortable in the hand, sleek, attractive design.
BOSE CINEMATE 1SR
The Bose Cinemate 1SR soundbar certainly looks the best. In terms of audio performance, it’s hard to criticize. That said, it’s certainly simpler and a step ahead of more basic soundbars such as the Orbitsound T12v3 or the Panasonic SC- HTB520. For a further grand or so, Bose also sells a Lifestyle 135 system, which includes the Cinemate 1SR alongside an iPhone dock and those much-needed HDMI inputs. It features a sleek, slim style it may have (it measures 124 x 935 x 61mm), but the Bose Cinemate 1SR lacks an iPhone dock. If that’s a bit of an oversight at this huge price, know that it does come with a wireless, powered subwoofer that Bose amusingly calls a wireless acoustimass module’, which at 282 x 192 x 373mm is as deep, but about half the height, of a desktop PC tower. Those after a cutting edge home cinema or even some cable-saving HDMI switching, will need to look elsewhere. The five speaker drivers and wireless subwoofer might impress, but the Cinemate 1SR doesn’t have any HDMI inputs. That puts the Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD Master Audio lossless soundtracks found on Blu-ray discs out of the picture, with all audio sources needing to be attached via digital audio (ports for two coaxial and two optical links are provided) or analogue phonos. SPECIFICATIONS - Wall mountable with optional bracket, Acoustimass® module delivers rich bass, powered home theater speaker system, sound bar includes five transducers with powerful neodymium magnets, plus two PhaseGuide™ sound radiators to deliver room-filling sound and TrueSpace® signal processing delivers spacious sound effects. 64 MAY, 2012
