Food for Change at N Convention

Arbaaz Khan and Charmi at Gillette Protest against PASS Popular film personality Charmi Kaur along with women from all walks of life including female models, fitness trainers, kick started the ‘P.A.S.S - Protest Against Smelly Stubble’ movement in the city. The P.A.S.S movement initiated in Hyderabad aims to travel across the country to tell men that they think stubble is smelly and demand for men to shave every day. These women strongly believe that men who sport stubble look like they have not had a bath. Women are being asked to join the ‘Protest against Smelly Stubble’ movement by following the below mandates if their men didn’t shave. In a bid to support the Protest against Smelly Stubble movement, Actor Arbaaz Khan, agrees to shave every day. Popular Telugu actress Charmi Kaur, strongly agrees with the group’s sentiment emphasizing the importance of being wellgroomed, “In acknowledgement, Arbaaz Khan, says, “Yes, I agree with the Protest against Smelly Stubble. Men should realize that women put so much effort in grooming themselves, as a gesture of return men should also do the bare minimum, stay clean and well groomed. Also Malaika suspects I haven’t taken a bath if I am not clean shaven.” 16 NOVEMBER, 2013

Project 511 presents Food for Change an NGO committed to improve quality of education imparted in government schools. It endeavors to lessen gaps and provide equitable conditions to government school going children so that they can focus on learning. Women dressed in elegant evening gowns and men clad in dapper suits — the scene at a ‘black tie dinner’ hosted at N Convention recently, could give any Hollywood shindig a run for their money. But this lavish affair was not just another Page3 dinner do. This time, Hyderabad came out dressed to nines for a cause. This sit-down dinner hosted for a charitable cause was even attended by Tollywood’s hottest couple, Siddharth and Samantha, who are otherwise not so big on being ‘spotted’ together.

An All rounder Socialite Socialite Bina Mehta was called upon to judge many events this Navratri Season. During the last few days of the fun-filled Dandiya Celebrations at Imperial Gardens & SS Convention she was honored to judge the event thrice. Being an astonishing dancer she also choreographed dances for Kakatiya Ladies Club, Round Table Club and many more. She also graced events for Shashi Nahata’s Dandiya celebrations, Mom and Kiddos and Gujarati Samaj as a choreographer. Must say she’s one socialite who indeed is multi talented.

Smart phones these days are not just serving the purpose of being a good source of entertainment, but also provide security and protection to the person using it. Safety apps are a savior at various circumstances. From providing safety against risky apps or downloads or theft to making an emergency call in some danger, these apps bring in a lot of convenience. If you lose your phone, Lookout can locate it on a Google map – even if the GPS is off. It will also activate a loud alarm – even if your phone is on silent.

With all my data and activity synced with my Smartphone, taking safety measures in case of theft becomes quite important. Apps like Cerberus, Anti-theft are of great help. But as for the safety apps for women, when I suggested a friend of mine to test an app which basically passes a message to their close ones in danger, it ended up being so complicated that my friend ended up losing all her balance and an automated message sent created a panic situation. All these apps are a great piece of technology but they have a few technical problems which I am sure will be fixed soon. -Deb, working professional.

Gone are the days when women did not fight against injustice and not self defend themselves. After the recent shocking rape cases that have come into light, parents have become even more reluctant to send their girls outside alone. In today’s era, every person owns a smart phone and thanks to Whatsapp, they are active on the net 24/7. The easy access and usage of Safety Apps on every phone, has made life easier. I think this is the best idea to help people reach out for help in case of emergencies. I have heard about “Vith U” and “Life360” apps for smart phones. I have downloaded and activated them on my phone. -Niyati Reddy, HR Professional.

A Day From

Pranshu Saxena’sDiary

She is a bubbly and full of life, who can instantly make conversations and friends. Educated in London and working in Hyderabad she likes to live her life to fullest making lots of friends and memories on the way. Tulip shares an excerpt from her life and knows more about her life, work and passion.

Mornings: Well, I would admit that waking up is difficult during weekdays but I try and get up early, freshen up, follow my routine exercises and meditate for around 15 minutes. Then I do some vocal exercises for 30 mins which includes gargling with a pinch of salt in warm water. It is later followed by practicing of ragas, which I usually do alternate days. I do not take much of carbs. I have to have lemon tea to feel the morning warmth, coupled with poached eggs, some sausages and fruits. Work: Professionally, I am a post graduate in Advanced Computing. My Alma Matter is the University of Bristol, UK where I was awarded the International Scholarship Award. I work with a financial firm as a Business Analyst, it sure is quite hectic working for a minimum of 9.5 hours a day. Of course we have elaborate lunch timings and tea breaks to loosen up a bit. Being a masters in Data Mining, I have always looked for areas of 22 NOVEMBER, 2013

applied knowledge, and what better than a million a day transaction data! We are working on market analytics and it’s quite exciting to be a part of the change. Work is strictly 5 days a week which gives me an amazing weekend to rejuvenate. “I believe that you shouldn’t dare to be different but dare to be yourself and if that doesn’t make you different, then something is wrong!” Passion: My passion though, lies in music. My mom says I started singing before I started speaking. I started to perform with proper instruments by the age of 4. I hold professional degrees in Hindustani classical music and till date have performed at more than 250 stages. I have had the privilege to perform live in India and abroad. It is simply a thrill that gives me a sense of achievement. It’s difficult to follow your dreams sometimes but when you know that this is what makes you ‘you’, there can be nothing which can detach you from it. I can’t imagine my life without singing. On the more passionate end, I have also been approached by a couple of music production houses in

Mumbai to record songs for their albums.

“My very first original composition ‘Lamhe’ was released earlier this year and I have got a huge response on YouTube and Facebook. “ www. youtube.com/user/pranshusaxena90 I am currently recording some tracks in distant collaborations with my friends across continents. It’s quite thrilling to be able to connect with each other and that too through music! Evenings: My evenings are usually pepped up with lot of friends around me. I am a social butterfly; it’s rare that I am sitting in one corner, thinking what to do with my life anymore. I always have something to engage myself with. If not singing, or around friends, then I like to read and paint. I am presently reading Synchro Destiny by Deepak Chopra, because it’s one of those books which feeds me intellectually. Dinner: I believe eat whatever you feel like, for all you know you might be dieting tomorrow. (laughs) My dinner essentially has some Indian element to it these days. I love Italian and Thai cuisine, apart from that everything else is a tip. Music is always playing in the house when I am around. It is a must for me to be around tunes and humming them. Just before sleeping, I gargle again, plan up agendas for the next day and proceed towards a sound sleep. Family and Friends: It’s my parents and my younger sister in our family, needless to say, I love them more than anything in this world. I am very close to my family and I live each day only to make them proud. We have our own musical evenings at our house, where we, the daughters sing, I also play the synthesizer and my dad sings along adding his bits of bongo. In the middle of all this, what better moment can my mother get to serve us with

Weekends and leisure time: I am a total weekend person and I wait for it impatiently. On weekends I make sure I catch up with my friends, relax my nerves by visiting the spa or get a nice massage. I am keenly interested in culture, so where there is a celebration or a local event taking place, I plan not to miss it. Wherever I go, I carry my excitement along and on weekends, it automatically shoots up to multiple levels. I am fond of late night casual get together and singing on the terrace with my friends, star gazing till early morning. It sure is a bliss. I also love to travel; I’ve travelled a 3/4th of India and lived in more than 9 cities. Time and again I keep making little trips to keep myself motivated because there is so much outside ‘yourself’ that we miss in everyday chaos. I also like to have my ‘ME’ time amidst all this. Simply sitting on the terrace with a cup of coffee, appreciating the beauty around me, be grateful about life is so me. REALITY TELEVISION

LOVE IT OR HATE IT BUT YOU JUST CANNOT IGNORE IT!

eality shows are filling up the daily screens of people, giving them a taste of all kind of drama and entertainment. From reel tearjerkers hogging the limelight, touching stories of contestants, real life issues in the society, behind the scene glimpse of dance shows to comedy shows with special guests, real life topics and dummy characters, reality shows not only move the audience, but also give the TRPs a much needed push. Reality television is a win-win situation for everyone, be it contestants, channels or the viewers. For the viewers, they are refreshing change from the somnolent saas-bahu dramas. The biggest gainers, however, are the contestants who get the right platform to showcase their talent. Some of these reality shows are talent hunts, game shows, celebrity shows, documentary-style shows, makeover shows, or some of them are just plain voyeurism personified. However different their concepts might be, all the reality shows, intrinsically run on the same path. They put ordinary people or celebrities in real-life situations and allow audience to enjoy the thrill of watching them! Satpreet Kaur talks to people in city to share their take on reality show, and what they love or hate about it!

R

24 NOVEMBER, 2013

Reality shows today have become an integral part of our lives. It adorns today’s reality with gloss and loss. Apart from the typical saas-bahu drama... reality shows are much more interesting and appealing. It brings out raw hidden talent and gives commoners a chance to bring out their talents from various cities. You don’t have to be a celebrity to be on TV today, as reality shows have made it much easier. The time we spent our boring weekends has certainly now been replaced by MASALA and MASTI. Some of these reality shows like talent hunt, game shows, celebrity shows, or dating shows give the audience thrill and excitement. It allows us, the audience to be a part of the show. I’m personally not a television person but shows like roadies, jhalak dikhlaja, big boss makes me glued to the television. I just cannot miss them. Priyanka jain, Post graduate in HR.

According to me, reality shows must be society oriented like ‘Satyamev Jayate’ and ‘Aap Ki Adalat’. Only shows like these hold some value in my mind but baseless shows like big boss and comedy circus or comedy nights with kapil that are purely laughter and entertainment based are a waste to me. I don’t know why people are crazy, may be because of Salman Khan or their favorite television celebrity who participate as contestant in these shows, but for me having social reality is better than baseless comedy. -Deepali Munchrikar, Graduate.

The Chat show concept, interaction with dummy characters and Kapil as host are a treat to the ears and pain to the stomach…. Laughing! It makes you forget all the sadness in your life and makes your week end with a blast. Kapil’s spontaneity of cracking jokes on every possible person and thing on the show makes it even special, not to forget his awesome ‘Buddhan Dadi, Bua, and sexy Gutthi’ that take the show to a whole new level of humorous joyride. Its elusive and effective humor make this show a must watch on Colors, and its high TRP’s reflect the same. After the conclusion of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, the show became the India’s highest rated serial in the non-fiction category garnering viewer ship rating greater than KBC!!! Divyakanth Dodda Entrepreneur

Reality entertainment shows like big boss and comedy nights with kapil are a lot of fun to watch. After a stressful day at work, coming back home and watching these shows is a huge relief, after all everyone needs a good laugh. I think kapil does an excellent job as a host and is a true entertainer. Reality shows have taken a new place in the media industry and it is a positive change that has made people get out of the non stop crying on television serials and see some real entertainment. I am an ardent fan of reality shows and I recommend every television viewer to watch these shows to relieve their stress. Aditya Sharma, Businessman.

I am a fan of comedy shows, after all who doesn’t like a good laugh. After great Indian laughter challenge Kapil has been my favorite entertainer on screen. His new show ‘comedy nights with Kapil’ is a whole package of glamour, laughter & entertainment. Every episode is fresh and themed around a topic while some of his line and characters have become so famous that people use it in their day to day conversations. Sidhus unlimited quotes, his patent ‘thoko talli’ ‘babaji ka thulu’, Guthi’s special way of introduction and songs for the guests, Bua’s desperation of getting married and ultimate drunk dadi are special treats of the show. Kapil has moved way ahead of his contemporaries and not only managed to create a niche for himself as a standup comedian but also as a singer, a producer and a wonderful anchor. Even the celeb interviews are fun and interactive rather than the typical chat shows, it gives an insight on the other side of their usual self. Even without all this I would have loved the show… just for the joy of Kapil being in it. Anmol Sarna Intern at MS Events. NOVEMBER, 2013 25

LIFESTYLE

Tulip asked Hyderabad moms on their favorite kid hotspots in the city.

When it comes to hotspot, my kid’s all time favorite in the city is Gymboree. A perfectly fun filled weekend with parent. What else can a child ask for! Encouraging a child’s overall development, it inculcates child’s interest in creativity, spectacular mix of social, emotional, and physical skill can be noticed in the child, complemented with friendly atmosphere, hygiene and perfectly trained faculty. On the whole fostering confidence in child in a play way method is the most perfect place for both fun and learning according to me. Vidhi Manglani, Home Maker

The most favorite place of my kids to play, jump, run around and enjoy swings is yogi bear park at necklace road. The play area there is amazing and my kids love to spend weekend evenings there. Eatstreet nearby is the ideal place where they get all their favorite food like burger, pizza, french fries etc. The other kids hangout places are fun zone in orbit mall and gvk one mall. The games there excite them. The first love of kids is chocolates so they love the chocolate room at jubilee hills and they cannot end their weekend without a yummy ice-cream treat at cream stone. So my kids have lots of places that makes my weekends extremely busy and fun. Karishma, Businesswoman

Hyderabad is a city that offers a heavy dose of entertainment and excitement for kids. As my elder daughter Reha loves to visit city center and fun city at inorbit to enjoy bowling and video games, my younger daughter Drishti prefers to visit NTR garden to enjoy the site seeing of the garden by train designed especially for kids, to double her excitement she plays on the swings near eat street and boating at hussain sagar. They both get crazy to eat at chocolate room near himayath nagar. It’s perfect to name hyderabad a city of fun and excitement. Monica Khanna, Homemaker NOVEMBER, 2013 27

Fun And Functional

INTERIORS

esigning a Childs bedroom can be very challenging considering the fast pace in which kids are growing up these days. It’s hard enough keeping up with endless influx of technological gadgets before finding ways to store all of these “next best things”. But alas, there are fun innovative storage solutions disguised by splashes of color that would make any room look like a three dimensional Picasso! In these beautifully designed rooms below, the perfect balance of practicality and creativity has been achieved and will easily appeal to parents and children alike. Packed with color and personality, these children’s rooms are fun and fashionable. For kids, their bedroom is where they play games, read, listen to music, wrestle, display or hide prized possessions, day-dream or just go to be alone sometimes. So try these eight strategies to help create a space that will make you both happy.

D

Allow your child to help. Let them have a say about colors, fabrics, and how they want to display their collectibles. The design should be flexible enough to accommodate their changing tastes, needs, and interests. Talk to your child. Find out what activities and fantasies he or she enjoys; what their favorite color is; and what’s unique about their personality that a theme could be built around. Then work their interests into a design that will make them feel comfortable, happy, and safe. Make the room multi-functional. Since children use their room for many activities besides sleeping, it should have several different zones. These could include a play area; a reading area; a space to play with friends that’s equipped with a radio, CD player, and a TV. A display area with a wall or corkboard for favorite photos and artwork; and finally, a place for shelving to display collectibles, trophies, and other personal items. Keep window treatments simple. Avoid long draperies. Shades, blinds, and shorter curtains are safer choices. The fabric should be versatile, and patterns should be repeated in other items in the room, such as in pillows, quilts, lampshades, bed ruffles, etc. Use wallpaper or paint to add color and texture. You can apply whimsical borders along the top edges of the walls, and clouds or stars on the ceiling. It might be wise to make sure the walls of childrens rooms are washable, so if you are using paint, choose a semi-gloss or gloss finish. Kids love bright colors, but you should limit any strong color to only one wall. For example, paint one wall fire-engine red, and the others a soft peach or pink. Make storage a priority. Containing clutter will be one of your greatest challenges. Try shelving, large decorative wicker baskets, plastic see-through containers, and closets that contain plenty of shelving and racks. Choose the right lighting. A child’s room should include both task lighting for homework and reading, and soothing light for quieter times. A nightlight is also important if your child is not comfortable in the dark, and for safety reasons, so they can find their way to the bathroom at night. Allow your child to select the design theme. The choices are endless. Here are just a few: firehouse fun room, starry night, angels, rainbows, unicorns, baseball, a bedroom for a princess, underwater scenery, outer space, race cars, airplanes, trains, jungle motifs, wizards, dragons and dinosaurs. Decorating with your child offers a great opportunity to display your playful side, while doing some memorable family bonding. So have fun with it and remember that even if your child’s choice in themes seems bizarre, there’s probably a way to work out a compromise. 28 NOVEMBER, 2013

Welcome to a beautiful home, with Skipper!

Pavan.S.Dev Architect

“While designing a room for kids we need to keep many things in mind. The interiors of the rest of our homes are sober and pleasant; we need not think much about the materials we use such as wood, glass or anything delicate. But in case of designing a room for kids all these things matter a lot. Children are prone to hurting themselves or damaging delicate things as they have playful activities and run by here and there, user-friendly and non toxic things should be kept in mind while decorating their rooms. Vibrant bright colors, cartoon filled wallpapers, eye catching furniture and everything what children love the most should be placed in their rooms. Things which do not cause much of maintenance and do not create a mess must be used, it’s better to keep materials which are washable and lasting. Along with lot of innovation and creativity, comfort is the most mandatory thing for your child’s room. “

SPECIAL

We have something colorful and gleamy around the corner, with all the lightings, crackers and traditional dressing welcoming the festival of lights. Yes Diwali is back with a boom!! Lehenga cholis, sweets, crackers, rituals and poojas performed for Goddess Lakshmi are some of the most exciting things to look forward every Diwali. This season Ishna Rawlani brings you everything that’s hot this diwali and city people who share their insights.

Cracker Craze

“Diwali the festival of lights also called Deepawali is one of the festivals which brightens up whole India with a variety of crackers. It’s a belief that on this day lord Rama returned to Ayodhya and people in happiness burn crackers. All the small little heads turn towards the sky to watch different colors of light and that wide eyes of elders filled with happiness. All together Diwali is a mixture of happiness, lights, blessings and how can one forget that sweet sounds of the crackers which drives everyone to a new world of joy and happiness. I love bursting crackers personally. I think it’s the best part about the festival, specially the 10000 ladi.” Umang Goel, Aurora Degree College

SPECIAL

“Diwali, the festival of lights and happiness is one of the most widely celebrated festivals, not only in India but across the world. It is celebrated with much pomp and show. According to Hindu mythology, it signifies the return of Lord Ram to Ayodhaya after spending 14 years in exile. The tradition of lighting lamps has been followed since then. People believe that the Goddess of wealth, Lakshmi will dwell into their homes on this auspicious day. I prefer traditional and ethnic Indian wear for this festival as I take utmost care about the clothes that do not catch fire while bursting crackers. I usually shop for our clothes from Rathi & sons or Balaji situated in Secunderabad. I love the anarkalis and the chudidars, it gives me the feel of the festival.’’ Satwant Kaur, Villa Marie Degree College.

Sweet Savory

True to its name “Diwali the festivel of lights excites me with various things like discounts, amazing sweets, family get together and most importantly happiness. We all come together to celebrate this festival in the brightest form. I think the best part about the festival is sweets. The laddoos, cham-cham, jalebis and the gifts that we receive in the form of sweets. I can never wait to have them as I have a sweettooth. My favorite sweet would be gulabjamun and I have it all as I get a reason to relish them without being conscious about my diet for at least one day. The excitement to open the gifts received hoping it would be a sweet box is something very crazy and cannot be defined. Arjun Nair, Facebook India.

38 NOVEMBER, 2013

Diwali is all about lights, crackers and most of all having fun. But the most important of all is the reason why we celebrate Diwali. We perform pooja and welcome the Goddess Lakshmi on this auspicious day. They say that cleanliness is very important on Diwali as Goddess Lakshmi resides in our homes. Following these rituals from generation we take a tour of all business locations like shops and factories, perform a religious act by the eldest member of the family , distribute Diwali goodies and burst crackers. It is indeed a very holy day for all the Hindus as it marks a new start of the year for us. Sonal Singh, Hiring and Styling, Tommy Hilfiger.

Ria always fantasized on having her own baking business. After almost a year of online research and self training recipes of cupcakes, cakes, pies, tarts and several other desserts, she managed to stumble upon some amazing inventions. She started supplying her brownies and cupcakes to Viva Italia and from there got noticed and reviewed twice on zomato .From then on she started working from her home’s kitchen. Baking is more than passion for her, it’s her obsession. She can’t imagine herself doing anything but this. Certainly comfort food ‘Cake Couture’ is an attempt to satisfy those sweet cravings with soulful desserts, cakes and more. WELLBEING

How did you happen to get into this field of fitness and training? I have been into this field since 14 years. It happened accidently. I tried my hand in all the fields like medicine, physiotherapy and nothing really worked for me. Fitness training was the only thing that worked for me and I am well qualified for it. I have worked in countries like Australia, UK, USA and now its India. Did you always want to be in this line? No, I never had any intentions of getting into the health and fitness industry. It just happened. So I would say not really. In India people have recognized your work because you have trained Hrithik Roshan. How was your experience with regard to that? Yes, my work has been recognized more because of that. A lot of my focus and attention has been on the videos on training which are most-viewed training videos in the world. It has fifty million views internationally. In India, the experience of training celebrities has been absolutely fantastic! I have been training Mahesh Babu, John Abraham and Hrithik Roshan and I love Indians. We have many of our trainers who are training other celebrities like Ranveer and many more from the industry. Do you plan to have any kind of workshop in India? Well, this is exactly what I am doing in Chandigarh right now. We particularly educate the trainers about fitness. We are having a city to city tour where first we are going to Chandigarh, Delhi, Jaipur and then Hyderabad. We are going to train about 1500 trainers, interact with these people so that they get educated and inspired. We have an examination process to filter the best trainers. How do you compare the Indian lifestyle to the other countries? Personally, I feel in India, people don’t adapt well to changes. They have excuses because we have a body to transform. Mostly in terms of nutrition, like vegetarians would not want to have nonvegetarian food. We have everything available here like brown rice, chicken, egg whites and we transform many vegetarians for nutritional benefits. So they need to be educated. The major advantages we have here is people are very motivated, more than anywhere else in the world. In other countries like USA, UK and Australia people are very educated but they lack motivation. Celebrities have strenuous working out hours. What do you recommend for a common man to keep himself fit? Like I said, I have 50 million people transformed by my videos on training. So, I would suggest people to hit the gym for just 45 minutes maximum and not more than that. John Abraham is the only celebrity I have seen that works out for unbelievable hours in the gym. So for a common man it’s just a span of 45 minutes and eating the right diet. Are there any plans of workshops in Hyderabad? Yes, we are conducting a workshop in Hyderabad very soon and we have a master trainer already in Hyderabad who trains some of the fitness freaks in the city. Did you get a chance to travel around the city? I am not much of a socialite person but there are a few places that I love going to like Di Bella Coffee, Ozone gym, Hard Rock and KBR park to walk around. Hyderabad has much more space and

SUCCESS STORY

Doyen of Theatre!!

He has revived the concept of theater in the city, has bought us one of the biggest, benchmark theatre festival and not to forget the immensely creative roles that bring life to some of the greatest men in our history. He brings in India’s rich culture and heritage to center stage and has created a brand Baig known worldwide. He is incredibly talented, passionate artist and more of all an explicit human being. We get you a one on one with Mr.Mohammad Ali Baig.. A man who dons many caps!

How long have you been in this field of theatre? Was it the family pressure or love for theater that made you choose this form of art? I think I have been part of it from even before I was born… having been born, raised and groomed in this performing art form, it’s a commitment to the family and the city that I am giving. It’s a legacy that’s a huge responsibility, something you cherish at times with pride and cringe at some moments. It’s now become a responsibility more than anything else. It’s this foremost thought that I step out to perform with, whether it’s at Golconda Fort, Taramati Baradari, Salar Jung Museum, Ravindra Bharati, Falaknuma or Chowmahalla Palace in town or at NCPA and Nehru Centre in Mumbai, IFFI in Goa, Herisson in France, in Lahore or Durban. All around the globe, it’s my childhood memories accompanying me… watching Baba rehearse in devotion every evening at 5pm sharp, his make-up in the green room, his famous baritone voice, the smell of freshly painted sets, the crease of new costumes, the spill-over of lights in the dark wings, crisp ticket books at the box office, the first bell, the second bell, and third and final one… the curtain goes up, the show begins with astounding welcome applause, the Doyen live on stage, taking the Curtain Call 48 NOVEMBER, 2013

and…deafening applause. As an individual how would you describe yourself? An unassuming, down-to-earth guy with old-fashioned values. Someone who can’t stand hypocrisy. When you have been brought up with strict Asaf Jahi court etiquette with Mughal blood, it’s a pretty tough call to keep up with modern times. The intrinsic values that come with such upbringing are sometimes a deterrent in today’s materialistic and opportunistic world. Tehzeeb and akhlaaq are more important than acquired degrees for me. Which is one Performance that’s close to your heart? Most roles that I chose to play, be it Sultan Abdullah in ‘TaramatiThe Legend of an Artist’, Prince Vikramaditya in ‘Resham ki Dor’, Dada Saheb Phalke and the recent Quli Qutub Shah have been close to my heart. There was something in each of these characters that I could sort of bring alive. Each of these characters have been pioneers and great visionaries of their times and left imprints behind in history. Personally, these were some of the most sensitive human beings. The only regret is that I couldn’t play Ratan Singh in Baba’s ‘Tughlaq’ which was to be my debut when he was ailing. Sadly, the play could never be staged as we lost him then.

“I am pretty protective about my audiences, whether they come paying a Rs. 5000/- ticket in their Bentley, or buy a 100/- rupee ticket taking a bus or on a whacked invite. Because, I have worked hard on making that audience-base” What inspires you the most? Nature. The Almighty is the greatest creator, to see his creations is inspiring…the vastness of landscapes, the tenderness of flowers, the flight of birds, the gush of flowing streams, the strength of wind (very much like the strength of a woman), the fragrance of rain, the innocence of a new-born, the purity of pre-dawn azaan…well, I can list endlessly. Which is your favorite part in making a show? It’s a sort of a mother-hen feeling. Firstly, to have started something and to see it through. I enjoy every aspect of it; conceiving, writing, designing, producing, directing and performing. Whether it is the lighting and sound design, costumes and jewellery or sets and props, I enjoy every moment of my involvement in theatre. What was your Idea behind the Qadir Ali Baig theatre festival? And how far do you think you have achieved it? Two-folds. It’s a tribute to late Qadir Ali Baig sahab, to his legendary work and monumental devotion as also an initiative for theatre revival in the city. Touchwood, today it has come to be regarded as the benchmark theatre festival in the country and one of the biggest and most respected theatre assemblies in the sub-continent. Locally, couple of years after its start, a lot of me-too festivals began. It’s flattering to see how guys who were helping us as ushers too started their own theatre festivals imitating even the way Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Festival’s brochures are done. That’s extremely fulfilling. This initiative in the last eight years has done thankless service to the city’s audiences and theatre fraternity exposing them to some of the world’s best. Lately, every second amateur group, college and university in town has their own theatre festival and some even invite me to inaugurate these, generously acknowledging the fact that they are inspired by the iconic ‘Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Festival’. Even before announcing the dates, we are inundated with entries and requests from across India and overseas,

“Theatre mein workshop kya hota hai?”. Even a debutant today can have a substantial strength in any performance space.

What about the other line of your work... Ad making? What made you choose this line in particular and how has the experience been in this side of creative-corporate world? Moving images attracted me as a teenager, and to look back and realize that I made 400-odd ad-films at a break-neck speed; jet-setting, jet-lagging, spending more time at airport’s reserved lounges, hotel suites, set floors, editing and recording studios than at home gave a kick at that age. Selling everything from cosmetics, toiletries, whiskies, banks, cars, condoms, textiles, beverages, financial institutions, corporate houses, televisions, refrigerators, ovens, IT companies, educational institutes, construction companies, food products, hospitals, holiday resorts, jewellery, governments, ports, watches, infrastructure conglomerates, airlines, NGOs, hotels… mind boggling… thinking from one MD’s point of view one week in one city and country to seeing things from a different industry’s perspective the next week in another city in some other time zone... It was a great learning experience. In fact, there’s no single product category that I have not worked on. Most of the country’s biggest FMCG and fashion brands, MNCs and Fortune-500 companies have been my clients.

Latest production and character portrayal... What should the audience be keen on for your upcoming theater festival? ‘Quli: Dilon ka Shahzaada’ is my latest production based on the love legend of Hyderabad’s founder Quli Qutub Shah and danseuse Bhagmati. I have used live Qawwali and shadow dance in this production. The play was invited to open NCPA’s Theatre Festival in Mumbai and Footsbarn’s Theatre Festival in France and was given primetime at Nehru Centre Festival. A total of five international fests in six months. Extremely fulfilling as it brings Hyderabad and its essence of GangaJamuni tehzeeb centre stage and is an originally written Hyderabadi play.

Your take on Theatre culture in Hyderabad… Is it just the social culture for elites or do you see a positive flair for drama in people here? I am pretty protective about my audiences, whether they come paying a Rs. 5000/- ticket in their Bentley, or buy a 100/- rupee ticket taking a bus or on a whacked invite. Because, I have worked hard on making that audience-base. ‘Quli:Dilon ka Shahzaada’ opened to a gatecrashing turnout of 1200 this April (The Golconda Fort security had to lock the main gate from inside to keep further crowds out). ‘His Exalted Highness’ at Chowmahalla Palace had a 1500-strong turnout on a weeknight. ‘Resham ki Dor’ saw two full houses at 1500-seater HICC and 1100-seater Ravindra Bharati. ‘Taramati- The Legend of an Artist’ had a run of ten sold-out shows on the hillock. ‘Raat Phoolon Ki’ at the Lahore Fest had a 5000-seater venue at Gaddafi Stadium brimming with youngsters. These people cannot be dismissed as ‘elite’ or otherwise. They come to watch my kind of theatre because they can connect with my style of story-telling and narratives, because they see aesthetic realism in those epics, and I am very clear in my work that I produce and perform for them, not to satiate my creative hunger. So, I would say that I share a very fond and mutually respectful relationship with my audience. This is the premise of my connect with them wherever I have performed across continents. Some members of the audience have been very loyal from Dad’s time.

Do you think association with big names and celebs attract more attention than the talent on stage of less recognized artists ? Am really not sure about such terms. There are senior, known actors and there are not-so-seasoned, lesser known actors. Both can be equally talented. I cast them as per their suitability to the role and their professional work ethics. Any known actor, sportsperson or professional enjoys a certain fan-following and billing that comes out of years of

“This year’s theme of the ‘Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Festival’ is Love Stories. We have a line-up of love stories; period, modern, tragic, comic, and classic by some of the most respected names in Indian theatre.” I remember with pain, there was a time in 2004 when a couple of actors in town performed to an audience of 8 to 10 people in University auditoriums, today they have at least about 70 people watching them. I feel good for them. When we started the ‘Celebrating Theatre’ series of workshops, even that set the trend and enabled a few amateur groups to have some sustenance. Prior to that some of them would ask

SUCCESS STORY and for the past three years, we have a sort of wait-list of 20 for the ten featuring plays.

The reason behind the unconventional story line you produce. When as a child you have traversed through the gamut of theatre, the best of classical theatre with your dad and avant-garde with your brother, from Vijay Tendulkar, Badal Sarkar, Krishan Chander, Mohan Rakesh, Shakespeare and Moliere to Pinter, Camus, Chaikin, Artaud and Buechner, producing pop corn work doesn’t excite you… then you look at a certain depth of content and character. You look at working with your own idiom.

back-breaking hard work. You go to a senior doctor not to star-gaze but to get better treatment and the bottom line, to get better worth for your money. Audiences have a right to choose who they want to watch and let’s not ridicule them for their rightful choices. You have won two international accolades for ‘Rockumentary’, we would like you to share more of your benchmark moments with us, and tell us how important these accolades are for an artist. Any recognition is a pat on the back for any performing artiste. The biggest recognition is felt when senior Telugu, Marathi and Hindi theatre people in town call to say that they are proud of my work and thank me for the revival and vibrancy in the past eight years. This is more motivating than all the thirty-five odd awards that I have won around the globe. NOVEMBER, 2013 49

My green lehenga for sangeet was from Sabyasachi. I love the color combination in it. For the engagement day I chose a dual color blend of white and pink ghagra which was by Manish Malhotra from Elahe. The wedding day attire was chosen by me from Rohit Bal, Elahe. It has a heavy stone work done and looked very beautiful on me. Pink color really compliments me so I picked that one for my wedding day. Vishaka Samarth Agarwal, House Wife.

Enticing Holidays Whether it’s a long summer vacation or a short Christmas break, family holidays with kids are absolutely amazing. In the fast paced modern lives it’s hard to take out time for your loved ones so taking a break and going on a family holiday with the kids is just right. Whether it’s the sandy beaches, thrilling theme parks or cold snowy mountains, holidaying with the kids just brings out the child in you as well. Tulip talks to parents to find out which are their kids’ favorite holiday destinations.

The favorite holiday destination for our son Kriday and daughter Prakruti has to be Disneyland, Orlando. Our son just loved the magic kingdom park and the Hollywood studio and when it came to the rides he was so thrilled about them and just wanted to continue with the rides all day. Kriday just loved the Disney Hollywood studio, which is a movie inspired theme park with show attractions and two of the most popular thrill rides. He also loved watching the extreme stunt show and toy story mania. When it came to Prakruti she just loved all the Disney characters from Mickey Mouse to Donald Duck to Pluto but her special favorites were the Disney princesses .And getting photographed outside the Cinderella castle our little princess Prakruti felt nothing less than princess herself. Walt Disney world is just not about the Disney characters and the parade show; our kids also loved the imaginative theme parks, relaxing resorts and the water theme parks. Walt Disney World was by far the best one week vacation which my kids enjoyed to the fullest. Priya Putta on her kids- Kriday and Prakruti

Goa is our kids’ favorite holiday destination. Both our kids Tanishq and Kashvi loved our recent holiday to Goa . The water sports were something that attracted them the most. Goa is synonymous with water and beaches and the kids just loved the water related activities their like snorkeling and swimming in the warm water and the boat rides that explore the local habitat. At Goa we also visited the wild life sanctuary which had waterfalls, where they saw several wild animals like wild boars, cheetahs and panther and the kids were both scared and excited at the same time to see all the wildlife. The kids enjoyed the elephant show after which they got a chance to ride on the elephants themselves which they thoroughly enjoyed. Though we did visit the south Goa side of churches and museums but both Tanshiq and Kashvi just couldn’t get over with the north side beaches and water sports. The kids keep asking us to take them back to Goa for their next vacation as well. Akash and Sushma Vijawargi on their kids Tanishq and Kashvi 54 NOVEMBER, 2013

Our two daughters Nainu and Sanu absolutely adore London for holidaying. They eagerly keep looking forward for their summer breaks so that they can pack their bags and head straight to London. They love London because they have lots of memories with our London home and all their favorite toys which they can’t carry back to India are there. Nainika loves visiting the Madame Tusaaud every summer to get her wax-hand made. Both the kids keep looking forward to the yummy pasta that they love at a restaurant called Zizzi which is right next to our house. Both Nainu and Sanu love taking the boat from our home on River Thames to the London eye. We often take the Euro star train to zip to Euro Disney at Paris and both the kids are always overwhelmed as they keep looking forward to the toy shopping there. Also there are plenty of theme parks which are just a two hour drive from London. Paultons Park being their favorite and Lego land has become their recent favorite after our visit to the Lego Hotel on this year’s trip to London. Gayatri Reddy on her kids- Nainika and Sanvika Our daughter Sachi loved her trip to Thailand. She loved visiting the fantastic islands and beaches of Thailand. The part she enjoyed the most at Thailand was visiting all the Animal Parks and watching animal shows. She love the Safari World at Bangkok where she got to see several wild animals like tigers, zebras, wild bores, hippos and cheetahs, though we were scared but our little daughter was very excited getting her pictures clicked with the tigers there. She also enjoyed the animal shows a lot at Safari World, the Dolphin show, the bird show and the orangutan show being her favorite. At Pattaya, she loved the Noong Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden, where after the entire visit she was very excited looking at the marvelous elephant show where the elephants were playing football, riding bicycles and painting trees as well. She also enjoyed her day at Coral Islands where she just couldn’t get enough of playing in the water and enjoyed all the thrilling water sports. Nirmesh and Nikita Gupta on their daughter Sachi

Our kids Hriday and Suruchi, loved their Singapore Cruise trip the most. As soon as we landed at Singapore we were put up at Little Italy and the next day we boarded on to the cruise to Phuket. Our first destination was the Jurong Bird Park where the kids loved interacting and clicking pictures with birds of various and unique species. They also loved the Universal Studio at Sentosa, where the kids were delighted to meet all their favorite Hollywood Characters. We had gone with a family conducted tour and they had organized tons of activities for the kids on the cruise like pizza baking competition, magic shows, painting and many other water games at the swimming pool which always kept the kids occupied. On our last day of the trip we landed at Phuket where the kids loved visiting the chocolate factory. Both Hriday and Suruchi loved the trip mainly because of the cruise apart from the amazing view throughout the journey, they just loved all the different activities on the cruise. And lastly the kids enjoyed the shopping on the last day at Phuket. Menaka Ketan Shan on her kids- Hriday and Suruchi

Both our daughters loved our recent trip of Palace on Wheels. The concept of palace on wheels was derived from the royal background of coaches for the royalty and our kids felt nothing less than royalty throughout the journey. The trip started from New Delhi and we travelled for eight days through Jaipur, Jodhpur, Sawai Madhopur, Chittaurgarh , Udaipur , Bharatpur and our last stop being Agra. The kids learned a lot about our past and understood our culture through this trip. They loved visiting and seeing all the beautiful places in the amazing five star train and indulge in the lovely delicacies of the different restaurants of the train. They had an entire group of friends on the train and all the kids together had an absolute ball spending time together. Both our daughters felt like royal princesses by the warm and royal welcome at every destination. Despite visiting several foreign destinations our kids loved the Palace on wheels trip the most as they saw and learned a lot about the Indian Culture and Heritage. A fairy tale

love story Some love stories are eternal and magical and who doesn’t want theirs to be the perfect one like this? Tulip brings you an ideal love story which is not less than any fairy-tale. Rahil and Hina Rais share their love life with us and help us discover more about relationships. Hina Rais : We met online five years ago, and because we lived in different cities we never seriously considered the possibility of being together. At first we used to only chat, then the chats soon became text messages followed by hour long conversation and it was not long before we decided to meet. Although it was not love at first sight over the time our bond became stronger and we became inseparable. We’ve been married for two years now and it has been a mixed bag of emotions and everything else. We have had our highs and lows and have weathered many storms, but always managed to stay afloat. Whenever we have a conflict over something, we do our best to talk it out in a reasonable way, setting aside blame and never go to bed angry and without saying goodnight and kissing each other. The best thing is that no matter how grave or insignificant a situation is, we always come out of it stronger than before. Rahil and I were not one of the lucky ones who have this connection, where they are the best of friends and have a rosy life from day one, although we shared common interests, tastes, and were always equally passionate, but how we look at things, our perceptions and opinions always differ. We really had to work on our relationship with a lot of care, love and understanding to build this happy and blissful relationship that we share. Now we know each other better than anyone.

Hina: I’m a contradiction unto myself. I have that hard outer shell but am a mush ball in the center. I’m moody, analytical, optimistic, strong headed, honest and enthusiastic person, occasionally a perfectionist. I give a lot of credit to my parents (and now my husband) for nurturing me into a warm, fuzzy, and independent person. They’ve always supported me in everything I did and not even once tried to impose them upon me. I have always been a career oriented and ambitious person. As a kid I always aspired to be a writer and with God’s grace I got into technical/ content writing after college and did a lot of freelancing and ghost writing. I am currently working as a business head at a gallery in Banjara Hills. I wish to pursue a PhD in Psychology and become a psychoanalyst or a counselor. Rahil: Born and raised in Ranchi, I have spent most of my years in Delhi. My parents ensured to give the best at the right time; I got my education from the premier schools and colleges in the country and completed my internship from London. Professionally, I am a business consultant in one of the leading comapnies and thank god, have enjoyed quite a success in my short career so far. As a person, I am sensitive, sensible, and secure in my own space. I am a dreamer and follow my dreams with utmost zeal and passion, and ensure avoiding mindless decisions but at the same time take calculated risks to get what I want. I love cars. Driving gives me the sense of relaxation after a hard day at work. What drew me towards Hina, was her focused and meticulous personality. She is never carefree about the matters important to her. To denote the successful completion of 12 months, I had planned a countdown of 12 days (before the anniversary date). For each day I had planned a surprise for my husband. And these were either given by me or delivered by someone else at work or home; these gifts were basically a mix of tangible and non-tangible things. And he in turn planned the most romantic and whimsical day/evening. He fixed a ‘breakfast in bed’ for me and showered me with a whole lot of gifts later.

Except for a few things we are mostly on the same page when it comes to interests and passions. We have a mutual understanding and liking for most of the things we do, like we are both movie buffs but resent Hindi movies, we like adventure sports, long drives, working-out, travelling, we are the partners in crime!

We’d be awfully jealous of today’s seven-year-olds, but the Camatte is an interesting product idea that could be educational and fun for kids and adults alike.

Give your kid the chance to be like dad, also to be the envy of every kid on the block. It will bring excitement to every kid’s play time, while taking kids on a thrilling adventure!

Battery operated Cars for kids - This stunning toy car, is a 6V battery operated car that will reach around 2.5 mph. Features include working headlights, horn, turn and music sounds, seat belt and in-car forward and reverse control. While it comes with a remote control for parents to train and guide younger children, it’s a great way to take them on their “first drive”. This car is also available in pink, yellow, red, silver, blue.

Electric scooter for kids - Cruise around the neighborhood in style with the Razor E100 electric scooter. Boasting a chain-driven, high-torque motor, and a handy twist-grip throttle, it is the perfect device for pre-teens and teens wanting to zip over to a friend’s house or head to the park. Once the rider is on the move, however, the electric motor ramps up to 10 miles per hour -fast enough to have fun, but not fast enough to be a menace on the street or sidewalk. And thanks to the long-life rechargeable battery, which takes about eight hours to fully charge.

Canon EOS 700D

Canon EOS 700D is the 'flagship' device in company's entry-level consumer DSLR range. Canon has included some creative features as well as a very responsive capacitive touch screen to make sure this camera appeals to first time users as well as to those looking for an upgrade. The first thing you notice about the 700D is its petite frame, slightly smaller than the previous generations and much lighter when it comes to weight of the body alone. Canon EOS 700D is one of the lightest DSLR cameras. What is nice to see is that though all functions and settings of the camera can be accessed via touchscreen, Canon has still included the buttons that let you scroll through the settings, which come in particularly handy if you are an experienced Canon user who's used to things being a certain way. It is really nice slinging it along on the trip. The new interface that Canon has built combined with the very responsive capacitive touchscreen is great to use. Price – Rs.59,995/-

Micromax Canvas Doodle

After the launch of Canvas 4 A210 last month, Micromax has launched another phone named Canvas Doodle 2 A240. So, this doodle 2 is basically a gigantic Canvas 4 that comes with a stylus and a bigger display and better battery. There are a lot of improvements done compared to the original Doodle, like the display has got HD. The most notable thing about this new device is its new unique body design. The battery is now non-removable. Canvas Doodle 2 comes with a bunch of added features like smart gestures, pop-up video player & pop-up browser, ‘look away’, blow-to-unlock, ‘flip’ etc. These are basically added 3rd party apps, not embedded with the interface, but still we appreciate these smart features on this smart phone. Though there is a stylus with the phone, we are not very much excited with this as it’s just a replacement of your finger and the tip is still just a rubber ball, so don’t expect anything like the S-pen on Galaxy Note 2. There is no slot on the phone for this stylus, so you are probably not going to carry the stylus around with you. The new magnetic flip case is something you will surely love. Price – Rs.19,000/-

Google Nexus 7 tab

When it comes to technology, we’ve been trained to expect more for less. Devices get more powerful each year, while prices stay the same or drop. With the new Nexus 7 tablet, Google hopes we’re willing to pay more for more. It’s a fine complement to your smart phone if it’s running Google’s Android, the dominant operating system on phones these days - even as Apple commands the market for tablet computers with its full-size iPad and iPad Mini. Unless you tell it not to, apps you use on the phone will automatically appear on the Nexus 7, so you can switch from device to device seamlessly. When you are signed in, bookmarks will also transfer over Google’s Chrome Web browser, as will favorite places on Google Maps. What the new tablet does offer is the promise of a longer battery life - up to 10 hours for Web surfing and nine hours for video streaming. Last year’s model was rated at eight hours. There’s no question the new model is better and worth the price increase. Choosing between the new Nexus 7 and the iPad Mini is tougher. If you already have an iPhone, the iPad Mini will be a nice complement. You won’t have to buy music, video and apps twice, for instance. You might want to wait until this fall, though, to see whether Apple comes out with a new model. It’s a tougher call if you have an Android phone. Price – On request NOVEMBER, 2013 59

Why did NTR Change his Manager?

Since few years, Jr NTR began giving more importance to the directors rather than the scripts. That’s the reason he teamed up with the filmmakers who scored blockbusters and paid the price. Except ‘Baadshah’, none of his recent films were successful. Finally, Young Tiger took the damage control steps! As a first step towards the change, NTR sacked his manager who has been with him since several years. Secondly, he decided to prefer good script over so called blockbuster director. Fans would surely appreciate this realization and wishes to see their hero back in Top 3 slot. entertain my audience so I don’t think I mind being tagged as anything. We have seen your films crossing the 100 crore mark, do you follow any particular strategy to achieve it? I don’t use any strategies nor am I that educated to do so. I act with passion, and take up each movie with enthusiasm and it’s the hard work that pays off. We have seen you doing back to back comedy, are you planning on doing roles which are very different from your routine ones? I haven’t really done back to back comedy as such. I have done Special 26, OMG and Rowdy Rathore, so I don’t think it’s a back to back comedy but more of a mix of roles. Will the audience get to see you and Twinkle Khanna on screen? My wife wants to be happy, so she doesn’t want to come on screen or act with me in a movie. (Laughs) Do you enjoy singing? Yes, I love singing, in fact I love people who can sing really well. I wonder to myself why I cannot sing so well like they do. Sometimes I even envy them, I wish I could be a singer too. Do you party all night like the song in your movie Boss? No, I am not that kind of a person that parties all night, exceptions if there is any special occasion like birthday or any close gathering of friends and family. Your experience to the visit of impeccable Charminar. It was really mesmerizing, I have always wanted to visit Charminar and I did it among the first things on coming to Hyderabad. Visiting the monument in morning made it much easy in terms of crowd and traffic, which was an advantage for me. I am pretty disappointed and shocked with the way people spoil our monuments and write names on such historical symbols, and with this medium, I would like to request everybody to preserve them and not ruin them. Why hasn’t Hyderabad witnessed any stunt in presence of Khiladi in city? I never say no to stunts, and if I had the required permission then I would have definitely performed one, especially at charminar. Many of your movies, both released and upcoming projects are remakes of Tollywood and other movies, aren’t you scared of being tagged as remake star. I don’t mind actually, Yes, my film Boss is a remake of a Tamil film called ‘Pokiri Raja’ and so is my upcoming film ‘Holiday’ of a South-Indian film ‘Tupaki’. When I do a film I see the script, and If I am doing remakes, then it’s off hit and popular movies, I am taking something good, to

You don’t have any lead actress in your movie Boss, Any reasons as such? There are no specific reasons to it. I have done many movies like Hera Pheri in which I didn’t have a leading actress, as per the demand of the script. However, in Boss I do have a brother and his Fiancé to share the screen space with me, but not a leading lady. Plus I don’t think its important for every hero in a movie to have a heroine. What is the most special part of this movie: Boss I think the most special part of this movie is the song dedicated to a father, we have so many songs dedicated to mothers but this is one of a kind and is really special to me. Would you like to act in South-Indian movies? Surely, if I get the opportunity and I like the script I would love to do so. As an Actor, what do you enjoy the most? I think the best part is that we get to play different characters, when you wake up in the morning you know the amount of attention and love you’re going to receive and mostly getting to travel different places, not to forget all this is achieved by the amount of hard work we put in.

H O L LY W O O D Harry Potter Back Onscreen!

Kim and Kanye to launch Children’s Clothing Line

All the Daniele Radcliffe fans who can’t wait to see him back on screen, here’s some good news for you. Daniel Radcliffe has revealed that he might reprise his famed role as Harry Potter in the film adaption of J.K. Rowling’s book ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’, only if he finds the storyline interesting. The book is a follow-up of the Harry Potter franchise. The ‘Kill Your Darlings’ star said that it’s the version of the flick that he would be most interested in, adding that he likes the idea of an intertwining storyline,” the Daily Express reported. The 24-year-old actor asserted that he could be talked into the role. Radcliffe had previously told an US publication that he will not rule out appearing in the follow-up franchise because he never knows what Rowling is going to write.

Socialite Kim Kardashian and her rapper boyfriend Kanye West are reportedly planning to launch a clothing line for children. The project, which initially started out as a fun venture for the couple, who welcomed their first child together in June, now spells problems for them. “Shortly after Kim gave birth to Nori in June, Kanye encouraged her to pursue her own baby clothes line. He thought it was a great way for her to be taken a little more seriously and cut the cord with her family. He wants her to establish a new career away from reality TV and this is how they think she can do it,” said a source. “Kim really threw herself into it because she loves fashion and also because it makes Kanye happy. She seems desperate for him to respect her and approve her,” the source added. However, the source claims that West won’t let Kim handle it on her own.

I am really looking forward to working with her on ideas,” she added. The 39-year-old, who has starred on the publication’s cover over 30 times, is due to feature her first story in an upcoming spring issue of the magazine.

India’s Triumph over Australia

The Australian team had sent shockwaves to the cricket frenzy nation after clinching the first One-Day International against India and with their swash buckling batting effort in the second ODI, the visitors looked destined to produce another upset against the world champions. But, that was until Team India’s batting maestros walked into the ground to respond against Australia’s heroics. With Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma opening the Indian innings, no one would have expected the hosts to trump the visitors. In what turned out to be the second highest ever runchase in ODIs, Team India notched up the nearly impossible total of 359 runs at the loss of just one wicket and with 39 balls to spare. Though the wicket came a little late, Australia surely looked eager to pull things back after the first wicket. But, the hopes of the visitors were dashed after Virat Kohli walked into the middle for India. The Delhi lad smashed a 52-ball hundred to break Virender Sehwag’s record of the fastest hundred by an Indian. While Kohli was busy hunting Kangaroos, Sharma also exploded into form and slammed an unbeaten innings of 141 runs off 123 balls to seal the game for India. Also, Team India’s 362/1 is now the highest total for the loss of just one wicket in ODIs.

He has added Inter to what is fast become a comprehensive sporting profile after becoming the first Asian to own a stake in an NBA team as part of a consortium which purchased the Philadelphia 76ers in 2011. The takeover reflects Asia’s growing influence in world football, particularly in Indonesia.English clubs Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal all play matches in the country during preseason tours, while the Chinese Super League now boasts Italian World Cup winning coach Marcello Lippi, who is in place at Guangzhou Evergrande.

Sean Edwards Killed in Crash

Sean Edwards, one of Britain’s most promising racing drivers, has been killed in a crash at the Queensland Raceway in Australia. Edwards, 26, was the son of former Formula One driver Guy Edwards and played the role of his father in the recently-released movie Rush. Edwards was leading the drivers’ championship in the 2013 Porsche Mobil 1 Super cup season and was taking part in a private training session for young drivers. The accident occurred when the Porsche 966 car in which he was traveling in as a passenger smashed into a tire barrier. Guy Edwards was one of three drivers who famously pulled Niki Lauda out of his car before it burst into flames following a crash at the Nurburgring during the 1976 German Grand Prix. His son had followed him into racing and was highly rated. David Coulthard, the former Formula One driver, took to twitter to extend his condolences. He wrote: “Shocking news about Sean Edwards passing, top man and super talented racer, condolences to his nearest and dearest.”The Motor Sports Association also offered its best wishes to the family, saying it was “shocked and saddened” by the news. MOVIES Movie Reviews

Boss An as-usual very clichéd Akshay Kumar plot, Boss is nothing like its titles. Juvenile jokes and slow-motion shots of Akshay Kumar running and slamming the villain’s head into the ground make up about half the film. Boss storms on to the scene, beats up police officers and all and sundry in order to win his father’s approval, and rescue his brother from the clutches of the evil guys. There is hardly the semblance of a story here, too much violence for a film that has a UA (Parental Guidance) certificate, and humor of the lowest level. The only silver lining — and it is really faint — is Akshay Kumar’s comic timing, which flashes once in a while and will extract a few laughs. Of the cast, Chakraborty as the Boss’s father is hopelessly ineffective, as are most of the actors. Aditi Rao Hydari, playing the Boss’s brother’s love interest, exists solely to flaunt her bikini body, only to cover up in demure salwar kameez outfits once she falls in love. This is not a movie that is worth your time and money. Spend it elsewhere.

Gravity Gravity is a 2013 3D science fiction thriller and space drama film co-written, co-produced, directed by Alfonso Cuarón. The film stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as surviving astronauts from a damaged Space Shuttle mission, as they attempt to return to Earth. It is a heart-pounding thriller that pulls you into the infinite and unforgiving realm of deep space. Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (Clooney). But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone. It is an over-whelming physical experience and a ride to the outer space which gives you a beautiful feeling to be away from earth. The idea of filming Gravity in 3D is more than a mere gimmick. Cuaron’s starkness in capturing the emotions in their voices and faces creates an impact. This is not strictly a film about acting honors but Clooney and Bullock add heavy-duty value to the film and leave lasting impression with their roles. Gravity is a film that reminds you what the magic of the movies is all about. Ramayya Vasthavayya It is probably only in India that we pay good money to get our sane minds assaulted by films such as ‘Gabbar Singh’, ‘Mirchi’ and now, ‘Ramayya Vasthavayya’ (RV. A toned Junior NTR is seen rehearsing for a drama sequence in college, dressed as a mythological character, reminiscent of his grandfather, when a friend comes barging into the auditorium to announce that one of their pals is being roughed up. The hero goes to his rescue, beats everybody to pulp, effortlessly mouths a few one-liners and then breaks into a song. Junior NTR is undoubtedly one of the better actors who can easily shine in every department he gets associated with: dancing, action and even comedy but sadly very few directors know how to use him effectively. Samantha is pretty, has a charming smile, and is a good actress too. Shruti Haasan in a cameo doesn’t quite impress, while talented actors Ravi Shankar, Ajay and Rohini Hattangadi are wasted. RV is a hero-worshipping, fan-appealing film that gets almost everything in the book of filmmaking wrong.
