The agency tries to survive in a time when everything, including the ad industry, is undergoing a radical shake-up. The two protagonists are the enigmatic Don Draper (Jon Hamm), a self-made executive whose childhood seems to always get in the way of his happiness, and ultra-terse Peggy Olson (Elisabeth Moss), a former secretary who works her way up the corporate ladder. From its first episode all the way through its final season, Mad Men is a tremendous work of art. Watch on: www.netflix.com

Over a Cappuccino with

Sucheta Pal Tell us something about yourself? On the professional front, I have a career in “Fitness”, which is really fun. As the ambassador for Zumba® fitness and an educator for the same, I officially train and license instructors in India. Women wellness and mental health as a cause is very close to my heart and via this career, I have had several opportunities to create real change for the same. It’s been a roller coaster ride from being an Engineer to switching a career in fitness but I have amazing family and friends to thank and a very loving, smart and secure man as my husband, who has supported me throughout. As an individual on the personal front, I am addicted to learning and trying new experiences which involves solo travels to Dharmshala, Sky Diving in Vegas or attending a 10 day silent Vipassana retreat in Igatpuri. I truly believe that the greatest high is self evolution and the only way to create real positive change in our community is by doing our bit towards selfimprovement first. My instagram profile reads dreamer, believer and hustler and I do think it does justice to who I am. You’re the first name that comes to our mind when we hear the word Zumba. How does that feel? When and how did you come to take up Zumba as a profession? 20 SEPTEMBER, 2019 TULIP

I hail from a loving, middleclass family in Ranchi. After a degree in Electrical Engineering and 4 years in the corporate world, I knew I had a different calling. I realized that dance was my true passion and took the difficult decision to quit my high-flying corporate life and pursue professional dance training in Mumbai. The initial struggle was inevitable, with training and three part-time jobs all at once. But this paid off well when my passion took me to the United States and I discovered Zumba for the first time in 2010. I was so hooked! I taught Zumba professionally for about 2 years in the States. In 2012, I got a call from the CEO of Zumba fitness for an audition at the Miami brand headquarters to be the first Zumba Education specialist of India. After a rigorous training, I bagged the responsibility. It was truly a high point of my life! I moved back to India in April 2012 to re-launch this fitness program and conduct

official instructor trainings of Zumba. I am extremely honoured to share that today, from a few hundred trainers in 2012, we are now a family of over thousands of licensed Zumba instructors across India. It is beautiful to see my students now thriving as one of the largest fitness communities and taking the program to each nook and corner of India. According to you, what does it take to be successful in the field you excel in and to keep a steady momentum? Strength comes from struggle. When you learn to see your struggles as opportunities to become stronger, better and wiser, then your thinking shifts. It isn’t easy for a young woman to walk out on a cushiony corporate job and delve into something uncertain and new, but

teaching in Hyderabad and Jaipur. I’m heading to Gurgaon next, followed by Bengaluru, Pune, Chennai and then Mumbai. Give our readers a few tips on staying fit and how Zumba is a lifestyle in itself. There are 3 easy hacks for a healthier and fitter lifestyle. Firstly, just start! It can be as simple as morning walks in your apartment garden or joining a Zumba class. Most importantly, Don’t procrastinate! Secondly, have a fitness buddy group. From office colleagues who can motivate each other to an online fitness group/fitness challenges on these apps to give you that extra drive, it can be anything. Lastly, try different fitness formats and decide what you like the most. Join your favourite session and that’s the only way you will stick to it and see results.

one can’t anticipate great rewards without struggle. My struggle was the fire that kept pushing me ahead. If there is one piece of advice I will give the readers, it is to“Embrace struggle”. With great struggles comes great success! What’s next in terms of work? Is there anything you’ve planned or have in store for the dance enthusiasts out there? I’m excited to share that I am now in my 2nd trimester and have launched my new initiative #PregnantandPerfect. The purpose behind this initiative is to break myths around pregnancy which are related to exercise, age and career. I’m currently on a 7-city tour across India, conducting live Zumba master classes in my pregnancy for fitness enthusiasts and dance lovers, breaking the myths around pregnancy and exercise. I just finished

How do you balance work and personal life? Mutual respect and great partnership in life with my husband is the key. We both have worked very hard on this via a simple method called good communication. It has helped me tremendously to maintain a harmonious life. For me a work-life balance means first knowing who I am and what success means to me. My husband is aware about the fact that work is a high for me and hence is always supportive. I am also aware that for my husband quality time as companions is extremely important so I need to make time for him. What does it take to be a Zumba instructor? As the lead Zumba education specialist for india today, I have had the opportunity to train and officially license thousands of talented and hardworking aspirants on this journey and the beauty of it is that there are no pre-requisites. Just like any other career, it’s the hard work you put after the training. It’s how you make use of all the learning and training which will decide how successful you are as an instructor. The first step is for an aspirant to attend a two day official Zumba instructor training called Zumba Basic 1 with

a Zumba Education specialist(zEs) in their city. The registration details of instructor trainings conducted in 195 countries including India is detailed on the official website zumba. com. Once the aspirant is registered, they physically attend this two day rigorous but fun instructor training with a zEs. The science of Zumba, the core steps and the tools and guidelines to become a successful instructor is taught via both theory and practical drills and it follows the standardised structure as created by Miami headquarters education department of Zumba. During the training, the new instructors also get the opportunity to sign up for the instructor learning and marketing support portal called “Zin”. Zumba is one of the only fitness brands in the world which provides this state-of-the-art and technologically advanced continuous learning support portal for all licensed instructors on a monthly subscription model. Every month each instructor across the world receives exclusive Zumba music, choreography, marketing support and so much more. The instructor is primed for success if they use these zin tools to teach effective classes. As they grow and progress they can also upgrade with Zumba speciality trainings like Zumba kids, Aqua Zumba, Strong by Zumba etc.

Rapid Fire Three things you don’t leave home without? My phone, a bottle of water and a mind full of ideas for my meetings. Next holiday destination? Definitely Maldives. It’s my favourite place on this planet. After I pop the baby out, we wish to take a quiet vacation down there early next year as a family. Most recent fashion purchase? I am impressed with Maybelline Super Stay lipsticks. They actually stay for 24 hours. Are you a morning or night person? Neither. My day starts at 6:30am and ends at 10:30pm. For some reason my afternoons are very productive for work. Your Biggest addiction To reinvent. I am addicted to learning and evolving. You will always find me in a new workshop or a meet up to make sure my soul is always satisfied. One habit you’d like to change? I can’t say no to opportunities and I guess it stems from the struggles I faced in my career. But sometimes I realize maybe I am stretching myself too far and it’s good to say no and prioritise some me time.

East Asian Magic arrives in the South The rising popularity of Korean and Japanese Beauty Products

- By Syeda Inas Inayath

Before the era of social media, K-beauty and J-beauty for Indian customers was relatively out of reach. Since then, with their enhanced accessibility in India, Vloggers and bloggers have recorded their experiences using many of these products. Owing to the array of benefits shared by these bloggers, the popularity of these beauty products has substantially risen. Korean and Japanese pop stars and movies have taken the globe by storm over the past few years. Korean and Japanese Beauty is the recent addition to the global trends of K-Pop J-Pop and Korean Japanese Dramas. These beauty products incorporate natural ingredients among its primary elements, with their core components that are local to both Korea and Japan, such as ginseng and cherry blossoms. These ingredients have made these products much sought after, because they differ so much from skin care and make-up that can be found at home. “ Launching Korean products in India has totally been a boon to our Beauty community. I’ve been using The Face Shop range of rice water for over a year now for my extremely sensitive and dry skin; these products are totally pocket friendly. In the past year I’ve noticed my pores enlarging way too much so I’ve been using the Innisfree super volcanic pore clay mask and it has definitely shrunk them. Every once in a while I add Etude House cosmetics to my collection and they’re definitely worth it; not too harsh on the skin. In a nutshell, every K beauty product I’ve ever used has always made it worth my while and I’m pretty sure it’s going to be the same for a long time”, Tenzin Choden, Student. 22 SEPTEMBER, 2019 TULIP

Japanese and Korean beauty follow the same East Asian Beauty standard; they are very ritualistic in their beliefs, giving importance to the protection of skin as they believe that they must protect what has been passed down to them. They share few similar ingredients like fermented rice water and have also revolutionised the face mask game. Both K beauty and J beauty are known for their glowing and youthful style, but even with similar ingredients and composition, the major difference among the two is the application of products. Although a few products are accessible and on the low price range, many products have been observed to be that of a higher price range, which may be due to their rare ingredients which showcase their exclusivity. This rising popularity has not gone unnoticed as Korean and Japanses beauty products are often plagiarized due to their high

demand. So they must be purchased from authentic suppliers and stores to ensure that you are not scammed into harming yourself using fake versions that might be available in the market.

the same time it keeps your skin moisturised. Oh and they are like 100 rupees each! That’s super affordable! I have also started considering Shiseido products, but I have not been able to completely dive into them as they have a higher price point, but hopefully in the future, I’ll definitely purchase it”, Amy Ho, Tax Analyst.

“I use sheet masks as a leisure and it’s one of the 10 steps of Korean skincare steps. I use the Innisfree sheet mask, which comes in different varieties like Ginseng, Berry, Honey, Rice water, Tomato etc. Each of these are really good for skin. For example, tomato fights with skin pigmentation, Ginseng is a medicinal remedy. Honey softens the skin etc. Overall, I feel each ingredient has good properties and at These unique and beneficial Korean and Japanese products have finally reached Hyderabad too. With Innisfree, Miniso and Ilahui we are sure many other companies will follow. Online markets such as Nykaa and Amazon has made it even more accessible to get a hold of these products. So would you give these products a shot?

The second is my love for sleep. I can sleep standing. In the middle of eating and sleeping I find time to work, so I have to be very hardworking and extremely efficient in those hours (laughs). On a more serious note though, I feel like I’m an old soul and I’ve always been fascinated by places and things that take you back in time. When I look at the sites like the Egyptian pyramids or even our forts and palaces in Rajasthan, the sheer magnificence and brilliance leaves me awestruck. This is what led me to do interior design. I did my masters in interior design from the Chelsea Art University in London. It was actually an apt field to study because it teaches you the science of spaces and how to integrate creativity into an empty space efficiently. Both my parents are extremely creative people. My mother was amongst the top event managers in the country and then moved on to create her own jewellery brand. My father always made extremely creative buildings. So I was surrounded by creativity and it has always caught my fancy. That’s why I decided to study interior design and then automatically went on to indulge in a creative profession as well. How did Dew Drop Design studio happen? The world of design has always fascinated me. I’ve always been drawn to anything creative and I believe creativity is a fluid personality trait. I don’t see why it has to be applied to only one particular profession. That’s why I created Dew Drop Design studio. It’s a one stop solution for all design related projects. Right now our focus is on events but we take up a varied array of projects. We’ve done a few interior design related projects, we’ve done a bunch of events of all different kinds. How do you manage spending time with your family? Well I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree, in my house the apple doesn’t fall from the tree at all. We are all joined at the hip. So we all juggle between Mumbai and Hyderabad together. We get plenty of family time together. What’s your favourite travel memory? I actually have two favourite travel memories.

One was to Sicily, in the south of Italy. When I was studying in London, a few friends from college decided to take off to the islands. There was this one place we visited which was a white marble mountain set against the deep blue Mediterranean Sea with the sun sparkling down. It is by far the most breathtaking site I have ever seen in my life. The second was this small village in the south of France called Eze village. It’s situated within a castle. It has a real old world charm with the view of the French Rivera and some of the most amazing food and wine! What does it take to excel in the field you do? Originality and innovation. I think in this field

it’s easy to get sucked into the idea of sticking to what’s safe and that can be profitable in the short term, but I think if your ideas aren’t original, out of the box and completely different from your previous idea, you won’t be able to survive too long. Tell us something about your work related trips. My work related trips are great fun. I normally travel to either do an event or source for new and unique props, products and technology that can be integrated in my design projects. So I get to always meet new people and get exposed to so many new ideas and innovations in the world. It’s fascinating.

In the Himalayas with Sofia Sujad

Instagram: @chicphilosofi

favorite holiday destination? Cinque de Terre and Bali. Anything with a view of the water, to be honest.

Sky-diving or Bunjee Jumping? What are you favourites? I would find Sky-diving more thrilling, hands down! snorkelling, paragliding and mountain biking are a few other favourites.

Tell us something about your trip to the mountains. Climbing up the Himalayas and then free falling from there. Exhilarating.

What destination have you found to be overrated? I do not find any travel locale overrated. However, Bali is one of the most beautiful islands on Earth, its beaches aren’t as special as the vibe of its more terrestrial Ubud. Gili, Nusa and Lombok, which are nearby, have much more scenic waters.

Blue lagoons or beaches? Water! Haha, honestly, can’t choose.

LAKME

WEEK

FASHION W i n t e r /

Fe s t i v e

This year’s Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive ended on a high note with a plethora of themes, social causes and Bollywood celebs gracing the runway in charismatic couture, as the 5 day event marked 20 years this year. Some of our favourite designers from the city were also a major part of it showcasing their best collections Anushree Reddy

Anushree Reddy’s new ‘Gulaal’ collection showcased at Lakme Fashion Week Winter/ Festive, is a dream collection for all brides to be. The collection is called ‘Gulaal’, and is inspired by the theme of the season, “Blockbuster Brides”, for Lakme Salon. It’s a collection that denotes celebration. Bollywood star kid Ananya Panday was the showstopper for the evening, and her champagne gold lehenga certainly fits the brief. What Ananya wore was a champagne gold lehenga with lots of katana and pearl. It took about 600 odd man-hours to make and embroider and it’s a new take on the bridal colours.

Gaurang Shah

Last year, designer Gaurang Shah presented a collection titled, Anupama, which was a tribute to the 50s actresses. However, this time at Lakme Fashion Week Winter/ Festive 2019, the National Award winning costume designer’s collection, might not have been inspired by legendary actresses, but the deep-rooted traditional essence remained. His collection captured the heritage of the country and what we also liked was the fact that his present collection, Peshwai wasn’t very modern and yet it did fit into the modern structure. It was a rich collection, which highlighted the cultural and fashion sensibility of Maharashtra. The collection, which included saris, sherwanis, salwar suits, and lehengas, showed India in maximalist light.

Archana Rao

Archana Rao brought classic silhouettes, exquisite embroidery at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2019. The Archana Rao design directions had a nostalgic element with contrast prints and clean silhouettes that were merged with Indian aesthetics. Archana’s collection “A Mountain Story” revolved around classic silhouettes with amazing embroidery details. The inspiration was the serene verdant flora of the Nilgiri Hills. The beauty of the Nilgiri hills with pretty old cottages, dusty eucalyptus leaves and tribal craft, were some more inspirations that pushed Archana’s creativity to great heights. While Archana Rao’s “A Mountain Story” collection offered exotic feminine creations which trendsetters will adore for its gentle, fluid, relaxed, line of clothing presenting a serene pastoral picture; Divya Gupta from Tanishq (Design Excellence Centre) and Sonali Sheth of Sphere Design Jewellery complemented the look with exquisite diamond jewellery designs well suited for the occasion.

SOCIAL MEDIA DETOXING

HYPE OR NECESSITY

Ask yourself this, when was the last time you went on with your day without accessing social media, or if sites like Facebook, Twitter or Snapchat where to disappear tomorrow would you be okay without it. Have you become too dependent on social media? According to Statista.com it has been recorded that more than 2.48 billion people use and access social media websites in the whole world which showcases the impact social media has on the world.

Psychologist, Naina Kunchal explains “In recent years there has been rapid growth in the use of social media or social networking sites (SNS). SNS / social media platforms provide individuals an opportunity to articulate and express their views, which helps to create an online persona, bridge social gaps and connect people. However, SNS are also abundant in providing opportunities for social comparison, which can be both upward and downward. This comparison may affect the subjective well being of an individual causing them psychological distress. Research suggest that excessive or unregulated use of social media is associated with depression, low mood, poor self-esteem and negative evaluation of self” Social media detoxing is the current lifestyle choice or ‘trend’ that is making waves in social media communities with many opting to not use social media for specific periods of times to concentrate on their mental health and to curb their dependency on social media

50 SEPTEMBER, 2019 TULIP

Shwetha Anand, an HR recruiter from Hyderabad shares her experience trying Social media detoxing “I was off all social media for 30 days. I had a goal in mind towards which I was working and hence decided that getting off social media would help me in some way. Neither me nor my family believed that I could do it considering I was usually always on social media, always consuming online content and keeping myself updated with what was going on in others’ lives. To my surprise, it was not hard at all. I was tempted a couple of times, but I just kept reminding myself that I shouldn’t do it. Detoxing from Instagram made me realize that it’s not important to not know what someone else is doing and it’s easy to not constantly look at posts or stories. It also brought back a part of my childhood back were the only modes of communication were SMS and phone calls. The same way it was in my preteens. So, I texted people only for utilitarian purposes and only those people who mattered the most. 15 days into the detox, I was liking it. This process taught me that there is no pressure on me to respond on groups, reply to stories and update people with what I’m doing. All in all, it was a huge morale boost for me too since I probably did something most people my age would think unachievable.”

But not everyone is successful when trying to detox from social media, National Institute of Technology student Mohammed Zoher Ali Khan although succeed once in the past to live an offline lifestyle failed to leave social media after joining again “I tried to detox from social media but I failed , and the reason was because all my friends where online and active on social media and I felt I was missing out on what they were posting and also social media was used to share important updates that I had to keep up with and that made me to join back to all the platforms that I wanted detox from” A new report compiled by the Global Web Index (GWI) showcases that, the average person has five social media accounts and spends around 1 hour and 40 minutes browsing these networks every day which shows us the rising dependency of social media on today’s generation.

SPECIAL |

Hana Sajid a literature student from St Ann’s college for Women tried the social media detox but failed to succeed “I think I failed staying away from social media because I am a college student , and everything is connected through our internet activity, if I have to do something I have to contact people , and interact with them on social media as that is what is done nowadays , and also I get major FOMO (Fear of missing out ) where I feel isolated and miss out on the fun of college life” Social Media is like any other medium in the world it must be used in moderation to ensure that we dont tarnish our mental health and self esteem on the bases of what is being shared by others on social media.

Rehmath Unnisa a college student also tried social media detoxing and stated that “I would say it was a good decision at the time. I was going through a lotta stress at school and just went online and deactivated spontaneously. Was a hard decision since I was heavily dependent on social media but once I did it honestly felt great for a long while and I didnt really analyze that I was addicted to social media. Been back for a while now but not addicted anymore and grateful as now I try to use it in moderation” Social media can be a form of entertainment and utility , and it can even be a force for good with how quickly it can share information and news . But one must use it smartly and in moderation. Too much can prove detrimental, even with the best of intentions.

A chance to say thank you Teachers Day Special

- By Tanvi Kesari Pasumarthy

At school, we have always been taught that parents are the first teachers of any child. As days pass and we transcend into the hardships and realities of life, all of us find out own teachers, masters, gurus, who we consider as the guiding lights of our future trails. The bond remains unbreakable and we, as their admirers or worshippers always find a chance to thank them. Listen to the stories of those teachers who changed the lives of a few. If you are inspired, make sure you pick up your phones and make calls to your teachers and say a ‘thank you’ to them. Not because it is teacher’s day, but because you mean it.

Aparna Malladi, Film maker I first met my Milton Katselas at the Beverly Hills Playhouse in Los Angeles where I went to audit his class. He immediately saw my blind spots and called me on it and I knew I had found my Directing Guru. The next year I spent doing scene work and having a transformational conversation with Milton which taught me to not only have compassion for actors but also to honour my instincts and to challenge myself in a way I had never done before. Since we directed advance class students, we worked with thoroughbreds and it allowed us to see all our directing mistakes. Milton trained under Elia Kazan and Lee Strasberg at the Actor’s Studio, was an award winning Theater and Film Director and had trained wonderful actors Iike Gene Hackman, Jenna Elfman, George Clooney, Alec Baldwin, Giovanni Ribisi, Tom Selleck and Michelle Pfeiffer among others. I felt so fortunate and lucky to be his student. His critique of my scenes which were recorded are still my go to for when I need advice and I always find something I can apply right away. In an age of email and texting, he liked communicating through handwritten letters and he always replied to every communication. He once told me that when he had visited India he had the honour of sitting in the chair at the study of the master Satyajit Ray. He always found ways to relate to me. It was he who said that if I looked I could find intelligence and genius in every actor. And it was he who inspired me to hunt down Ariel Dorfman, the writer of the Roman Polanski film ‘Death and The Maiden’ who was in the Amazon so I could make sure my interpretation of the screenplay was right for a scene I was working on. I felt he passed away before I was ready. I never feel ready. However I feel that he resides in me as the silent teacher ‘Dakshinamurthy’ and guides me through scenes. SPECIAL | Raj Kandukuri, Filmproducer The best teacher of my life is my father who stands as my role model because he let me do what my heart pleased. Whether it is my career or studies, he always insisted that I should love what I am doing only then will I relish it and the outcome will be the best. You could see that influence in my films as well, where I try to portray that the protagonist usually ends up where his passion lies.. whether it’s Pellichoopulu, Mental Madhilo or my latest movie Choosi Choodangaane, which is ready for release. I try to show that in the end what matters is whether you are doing what your inner soul is vying for. Follow Raj Kandukuri’s journey Instagram: Rajkandukuri

Harshita Thota, designer/ stylist I believe the most important quality a person needs to embody is patience and there was no one better to teach me that other than my mom. Growing up, I’ve seen her deal with a lot of situations both personally and professionally and she had handled them with such grace and poise. She has taught me to be patient through anything in life, as that’s the only way you can keep moving forward. And she still keeps reminding me each day, that a little bit of patience can take you long way. Follow Harshita’s journey Instagram: HarshitaThota TULIP - SEPTEMBER, 2019 53

| SPECIAL Pranav Chaganty, Singer/Rapper

My struggle has been my teacher in many ways. Whenever I feel sad, I write something, so my poetry comes from my pain. I’ve gone through that painful struggle which taught me life. My next teacher is my brother. Initially, when I started rapping, there was no reference of Telugu rap and I had to start from the scratch. Whenever I wrote something, I never used to understand how it sounded. That’s when my brother, Sriharsha Chaganty, gave me the right feedback on how good or bad it was and where I could improve. Thirdly, the legendary poets of Telugu- Srisri, Sirivennela Seetharaman Sastri and Cinare have been my teachers. I was very impressed by the word structures Srisri created back in 1930’s and till date nobody could match it. I’m hoping to meet that level one day. Sirivennela Seetharama Sastry is more like a father figure to me. The best moment of my life was when I met him and made him listen to something I wrote. He greatly applauded me and congratulated me for what I’ve been doing with Telugu poetry. These poets showed that you still can keep your character as a poet no matter how commercial the producers want the song to be. They always had some message in every song or casual poetry they wrote. They’re Praja Kavi and dream to be a Praja Kavi someday. Follow Pranav’s journey- Instagram: pranavchaganty

Karteek Sivagouni, Photographer “Parents are a child’s first teacher”, is a famous belief. For me it was my father. He being a Physics professor, our main conversations always ran around things based on logics of real scenarios in life. He always challenged me with scenarios and asked me to come up with solutions, this ignited the competitive spirit in me. As I go by my past it was during 5th grade when I was mesmerised to see how one can draw something on computer through a software Paint , where I used to sit for hours together and start to dig the tools and create something out of something else and that’s where I landed in creating an animation effect on my own. That spree continued as years passed to getting my first digital camera and how my father explained the logic of clicking a picture is merely a reflection of light. More than going to an institute and taking up a course to learn the subject, my learning was always by myself in my mind and the unlimited time that I sit over the process. For me my second teacher was my curiosity to create something either during clicking that one perfect shot or by spending hours together on editing software’s and recreate something new, Digital camera made my survey easy as I could always click and delete and get that one perfect shot. No matter which profession, it’s all about your interest, curiosity, urge and will to put efforts on it which turns into passion or profession. Always thankful to my father for being my first teacher. Follow Karteek’s journey Instagram: karteeksivagouni

SPECIAL | Bishnu Adhikari, Actor, athelete, entrepreneur My father taught me a lot about life. I didn’t realise how important our time spent together was, until he was gone. He made me the man I am today. He taught me how to be a genuine and kind person. He taught me how to chase my dreams and today if I’m an actor, it is because of his blessings and his belief in me. I thank God every day for giving me such a wonderful father. Even though he isn’t on this planet anymore, he will always be in my heart and so will all of his valuable lessons. The best thing about this festival is the costumes that we get to wear, the dance we get to do and the different food items we get to taste which are utterly delicious. If a festival is so much fun then who will not wait for it so impatiently every year. We also love Navratri as we get to meet on a daily basis which is otherwise not possible due to both our busy schedules.

Yamini Agarwal, Sales Manager and Rajeshwari Agarwal, Graphic Designer.

Radhe Radhe The Park, Gachibowli has never failed to surprise. Every year, the Navratri celebrations take place on a grand scale with people’s excitement raising. And you know the best part? Every year they change the themes and it becomes double the fun with more crowds willing to participate. The year of 2018, gave the people major disco dandiya goals mixing the traditional essence of the dance on the retro beats. This time, they are presenting it to you two days of dance, music and much more sponsored by Telangana Tourism and 9xm. Groove to the beats of Capricio and Deccan Project and let your inner power rule the dance floor. Where : The Park, Gachibowli The disco dandiya night was a big hit leaving people craving for more of such celebrations thus giving way to different themes every year.

For us, Navratri is all about meeting and socializing with people whom we haven’t met before. And also we can forget our worries and dance away the whole night with people around having such high festive spirit.

We all love to experience a new space, a new decor item, or a flavour of newness at home and turn something boring, or monotonous into something new. Read on to understand what best suits your space, and where you can find these items.

The most ignored space in your entrance is the wall. Most of us either paint it a random colour, or leave it as it is. To make the space much more interesting and pleasing to look at, grab a piece of wall decor. Not only will it make the entrance look fuller, but will also make the house more inviting. Typically left alone, the wall decor can be hung on top of your shoe rack, to make the boring space, much lively and colourful. Mastering The Art Of The Law Of Attraction With

Kosh Rawjee Kosh is a Globally licensed and certified Law of Attraction healer/facilitator and a life coach since 14 years. She has conducted workshops for international educators on teaching and parenting. Her love for children is cosmic hence she conducts playshops for children to install in them the principles of Law of Attraction. Let us have a conversation with her to know all about the Law Of Attraction.

How did law of attraction work out for you as a profession? “Eight years ago I met with an accident and was confined to bed for several weeks. My cousin gifted me this book ‘The Secret’ by Rhonda Byrne. That’s when I realised that the frequency you send out to the cosmos finds something on the same bandwidth and sends it to you. Positive vibrations bring more positive situations, while negative

ones attract bad circumstances.” Later I attended a Law of Attraction workshop and since then there was never a looking back. Law of attraction changed my life. Inspired by my trainer, Gaurav Behl, I decided to go for teacher training and become a channel to help others and nurture each and every soul that I touch. Tell us how the law of attraction works for different people? Life is a blank canvas of possibility; you are in control of what the finished picture could look like. The Law of Attraction really is that simple. No matter what you are looking to have or achieve or be in life, if you can hold onto an idea and see it for yourself in the mind’s eye, you can make it yours to have… with some effort on your part. It can be utilized for Love, Happiness, Joy, Money, Career, Jobsuccess, Marketing, Examsuccess, Height, health, Beauty, Weight loss etc. Tell us about one memorable experience of yourself with a client. As coaching sessions are confidential, I will not reveal the identity of the client, but yes, I can definitely share the soulful experience. Allow me to call her Rachna. Rachna was a complete emotional wreck when she first came for a session. She was very successful but down and rock bottom low emotionally. Her self esteem and self

love was almost absent. She had got out of a really bad relationship. The session started with sharing and then guided meditation. It took her sometime to release and have an outburst. In the third session she poured her heart out, told about all her pain and said one thing. “ I don’t want to feel like this ever again. I want to be my old self again”. I gave her a healing therapy and affirmations and exercises and followed up with her regularly. We worked together on attracting a compatible and complementing soul mate through various Law of Attraction techniques for 5 sessions. She learnt to trust herself and trust the universe. Recently she messaged me saying that she is doing everything that I asked her to do and since then she has never been hurt by anyone and no one’s unpleasant behaviour is affecting her inner being. And also mentioned that as soon as she let old emotions and thoughts go she is feeling light and loved. As a healer and facilitator, give the readers a few tips on how to attract positivity. Being positive isn’t always easy, but it’s well worth the effort. It has the power to shape our lives like nothing else.

Here are some ways to bring in positive energy in your life. 1. Do not give energy to negativity, to the things you do not want in life. Stuff happens. Stop thinking about it. Replace them with positive thoughts. 2.

Do not speak of diseases, illnesses and worries.

3.

Love and accept yourself the way you are now. Pamper yourself. For every negative comment you make towards yourself, give yourself 3 complements.

4.

Let go of the past. Forgive yourself and forgive others. You can’t undo anything. Let it all go.

5.

Laugh, smile and have fun.

6.

Do not give a rip to what others think of you. It is not your role to make others happy, it is your role to keep yourself in balance.

7.

Have boundless gratitude. Aligning yourself with positive energy of gratitude will attract more positive energy to you. Instragram : @koshrawjee Contact : 9885516056

“Tarot is like a wise Friend, Guide or Guru with whose advice you can live your optimal life.” What exactly is Tarot and how does it work? Tarot is a set of 78 cards used for future predictions, figuring out the best choice to make in a certain situation or for self-healing and introspection. The cards have inbuilt symbols in them which are said to trigger our intuition. These symbols and images access our “subconscious mind” that has knowledge of the Past, Present and Future. What exactly can we ask the Tarot? The scope for asking questions from Tarot is wide. You can ask questions regarding finance, business, relationships, timing, health, spirituality and more. For example, “What are my partner’s feelings for me?”, “How can I make my boss think better of me?”, “Should I choose business or a job?”, “When will I get married and to whom?”, “Will I get this business deal?” etc. Trying to predict Exam results, locations, Names, Salaries, Dates or Lottery numbers are rarely accurate. What made you choose Tarot Card Reading as a profession? I was introduced to the Tarot when I was 15-years-old and I have been doing readings for 30 years now! I chose Tarot as a profession largely due to my passion for it and the encouragement I received from my friends and relatives. I started Café Tarot in 2007 by putting up my website and getting myself listed in the local yellow pages. It has been 12 years since then and I feel this was one of my best decisions to date. Loving your profession is a blessing and I encourage everyone to follow their passion professionally. 64 SEPTEMBER, 2019 TULIP

Astrology? Tarot Readings can be incredibly accurate about 80% of the time. The main difference between Tarot and Astrology is that with the Tarot you can ask the most detailed and precise questions possible making it easier to help take decisions. Tarot mainly works via person’s energies, so birth date, timing and location are not required. So what is a Tarot Reading like at Café Tarot? A reading at Cafe Tarot is a private reading. An appointment needs to be booked a day in advance. The reading is mostly for 45 minutes but you can extend it if you have more questions. In such readings, profuse energy exchange takes place and you may feel lighter, clearer and happier after absorbing the healing energies.

Why is your Centre called “Café Tarot?” Café Tarot was named in line with the vision I had for the Centre of opening a Café where one can have Tarot readings throughout the day and lounge around at the coffee shop as well while discovering, reading and discussing about the Tarot. In short, a Café with a Tarot theme! This vision is in the planning stage and I hope to make it a reality in the future. What is Café Tarot Academy and Café Tarot Lounge? Café Tarot Academy is the learning division of the Centre. You can learn how to read the tarot yourself and become a part of the Café. Tarot Lounge is where you connect withlike-minded Tarot enthusiasts to participate in regular meet-ups, reading swaps and discussions on Tarot. How accurate are Tarot Readings and how is it different from

What are the types of readings conducted at Café Tarot? In theregular 45-minute Tarot session, we have past-lives discovery and regression, discovering and connecting with your spirit guides and angels, chakra scanning, after death communication, and a soul mate connection session with the Tarot. If you are new to Tarot Reading it is recommended that you take the Regular session first. How do I prepare for a Tarot Reading session? There are a few points to keep in mindwhile taking the session: - Keep an open mind and leave behind your skepticism for the moment - Note down your questions beforehand so you don’t lose track - Audio Record a session to gain more insights while replaying it later - Provide background to your situation before asking a question. Predictions are more accurate if you do so. - Do not fear the Tarot. It will answer only questions asked, not ones you don’t want answers to.

What are Tarot cards, and how do they work? Let ushave a mini demo to have an idea about this. Choose a card, either Maroon, Black or Blue card, with the below question in mind: “WHAT IS ON MY MIND CURRENTLY?” Now choose one card and look below for the answer to your question:

Maroon Card

Black Card

Blue Card

If you chose: Maroon Card: You are thinking about whether to reveal the decisions/actions you have taken. You did not share these with anyone and have a tendency to keep things hidden. You feel justified in doing it but still feel uncomfortable. Advice: be as transparent as possible. Black Card: You are thinking about a recent argument/fight/conflict with one or more people either in your personal life or professional. Your environment is competitive and you want to win. Advice: remain peaceful and manage with diplomacy. Blue Card:You are thinking about finances and new opportunities in job or business. This could involve a significant sum of money coming to you in future. It could involve salary or business negotiations. Advice: stay confident, you will get it! To a healthier and more potent lifestyle- Busting myths Thanks to the food world filling up with trends, fads, and stacks of misinformation, it’s become increasingly hard to find reliable nutrition information. How many times have we dropped our plans of hitting the gym just because of people propagating that once we stop working out, pounds of fat get added to us? We personally conducted a survey where people sent us their top health myths and queries and well, guess what? We’ve got all your doubts covered! Here we have the very knowledgeable and renowned nutritionist of our city, Dr. Deepa Agarwal bust all your common myths and help you in becoming healthier.

Does a rice diet makes you fat?

White rice and other starchy carbohydrates have a bad reputation when it comes to weight loss. You will often find it on lists of forbidden foods lumped in with things like pastries and cookies, which are nothing more than empty calories. As with so much else in life, it’s not that simple. Rice alone won’t make you fat unless you exceed your daily recommended caloric allowance day after day and pair it with fried foods or high-fat sauces. If you choose whole-grain rice and watch your portion sizes, you won’t have to cut rice out of your diet to lose or maintain a healthy weight.

Tea on an empty stomach lands you with acidity. Is this true? Heading for that freshly brewed cup of tea or coffee first thing in the morning can do you more harm than good. Drinking coffee on an empty stomach increases acidity, which in turn causes heartburn and indigestion throughout the day. Drinking tea on an empty stomach can suppress the secretion of gastric juices and reduces bile and acid in the stomach. It can also reduce your appetite.

Plucking out grey hair will induce more grey hair growth. Myth or Fact?

Plucking grey hair will not cause three or more grey hairs to grow back in its place. However, plucking is not an advisable activity because it can destroy the hair follicle and possibly lead to bald patches. Overall, the real truth behind greying is that it is dependent on multiple factors. While further studies need to be done, reducing stress and smoking will not only potentially decrease your chance of greying prematurely, but also have other positive health benefits.

Does Eating chocolate gives you acne?

It’s an old wives’ tale that chocolate causes/worsens acne and has yet to be proven by science. Caffeine in chocolate is a major culprit. Science says that dark chocolate does not cause acne, but if you eat a lot of sweets, sugary foods, processed foods, or fast foods, all things can contribute to acne/problem skin. I would say that eating dark chocolate will not affect your acne unless you’re allergic to something in the chocolate, allergic to chocolate, or if it’s high in sugar. Sugar can wreak havoc on your skin and greasy/processed/fast foods can be hell on your skin as well.

HEALTH | Is it true that Once you stop going to the gym, you’ll gain weight faster? When you are gymming, you gain some extra muscles. Say that now you suddenly stopped exercising. Your daily movements/activity has reduced. So your body does not need those extra muscles that you have developed. Those muscle will start to go off. Now this is the process that makes you look ‘fat’. Suddenly your toned up muscles will loosen up which in term will loosen your skin a bit and this is what makes you look fat/chubby. On top of that, we tend to eat more when we exercise and even if you suddenly drop your exercising to zero, your eating quantity will still not go down immediately but will take time. But now since you have stopped exercising, the extra food quantity going in will be turned to fat. So, becoming fat is not because you have left the gym, but because you have left the gym and your food intake is still almost the same.

An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Clarity please.

Apples have a good claim to promote health. They contain Vitamin C, which aids the immune system, and phenols, which reduce cholesterol. They also reduce tooth decay by cleaning one’s teeth and killing off bacteria. It has also been suggested by Cornell University researchers that the quercetin found in apples protects brain cells against neuro-degenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s Disease.

You need to drink 8 glasses of water everyday. Do you?

The body is about 60% water, give or take. You are constantly losing water from your body, primarily via urine and sweat. To prevent dehydration, you need to drink adequate amounts of water. There are many different opinions on how much water you should be drinking every day. Health authorities commonly recommend eight 8-ounce glasses, which equals about 2 litres, or half a gallon. This is called the 8×8 rule and is very easy to remember. However, some health gurus believe that you need to sip on water constantly throughout the day, even when you’re not thirsty. As with most things, this depends on the individual. Many factors (both internal and external) ultimately affect your need for water.

Is Organic food better for the body?

Organic limits the type of pesticide, not the use of it. Often the naturally derived pesticides aren’t as effective and need to be used more often. At first I thought it might be better for your health. Then I found it wasn’t, according to lots of studies. But I still was glad it was there because it doesn’t use pesticides. Then I found out it uses more pesticides. Now I think it’s horribly overpriced food. Synthetic pesticides are specifically designed to be harmful to pests and nothing else. Birds, beneficial insects, soil biomes and even people are affected more by organic pesticides at staggering rates. But we buy into it because we believe in the internet age.

Is Coffee bad for health?

For years, doctors warned people to avoid coffee because it might increase the risk of heart disease and stunt growth. They worried that people could become addicted to the energy that high amounts of caffeine provided, leading them to crave more and more coffee as they became tolerant to higher amounts of caffeine. Experts also worried that coffee had damaging effects on the digestive tract, which could lead to stomach ulcers, heartburn and other ills. All of this concern emerged from studies done decades ago that compared coffee drinkers to non-drinkers on a number of health measures, including heart problems and mortality. Coffee drinkers, it seemed, were always worse off.

Mission Mangal This is a movie about space, scientists, facts and physics, but there is no dearth of emotion. Some of it is trite and there is manipulative pop patriotism – the sort you expect from an Akshay Kumar film. Yet Mission Mangal is more restrained in tone than the star’s recent outings like Kesari, PadMan, and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. There are also genuine moments in the film when you laugh, and when your heart soars. Despite the formulaic arc, the makers deliver an entertaining account of a complicated mission.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood Yet, all said and done, Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood is a violent, often funny, but always heartfelt valentine to a specific time and place. Robert Richardson’s artful photography, the evocative production design, and fleeting appearances by legendary characters of the day transport you to a bygone era of Hollywood glamour that proves hard to resist. The film may not be Tarantino’s best, but it’s a laidback, change-of-pace offering that delivers many unexpected pleasures. I’m going with three-anda-half out of five.

EEdaina Jaragocchu EEdaina Jaragocchu is a thriller comedy directed by K Ramakanth. A weak story and screenplay make the film an unfortunate bore altogether. The predictable and clichéd storyline makes it worse, offering nothing new. The immature acting from the lead pair is a huge set-back, though in terms of technicality, the film is not a bad one to watch. The unnecessary comedians introduced to lighten up the film don’t help it either. While Kali and Baby’s love story makes the film tedious, Bobby Simha does a good job, while Sasha Singh over-acts.

BOOKS Animal farm by George Orwell (1945)

With an extremely simple style of writing, this allegorical novella, traces the events that led up to the Russian Revolution and then into the Stalinist era. The simplicity of the plot, where animals make humans run away to take over a farm, makes it very easy to reflect on the motivation of the novella. The later communist events that occur within the Animal Farm resonate with possible realities today in different parts of the world that repeat History to prove the Utopic nature of an egalitarian society. The novella is an easy and effective read that has a lot to give and a lot to take. The linear plot makes the reader think more and re-think politics and life.

If I Stay by Gayle Forman (2009)

Shifting between the past and the present, the conscious and the unconscious, the story of Mia keeps the reader engaged throughout. The plot follows Mia’s final choice that decides if she stays or not after a terrible accident that kills her family. The only things she has to live for are her Cello and her Boyfriend, and the past helps her decide what is more important in her comatose state. The flashbacks and the present compel the reader to feel inclusive of the plot and on edge until Mia takes her choice. The plot resonates with the reader by stressing on the importance that is given to making choices every single day for survival and happiness. The novel remains more than just a Romance Drama.

November 9 by Colleen Hoover (2015)

With love become overtly complicated and taking different meanings today, a gripping love story, November 9, is a must read for all Romantics to feel despair, happiness, mirth and love. The novel follows the love life of Fallon and Ben, except, they meet and communicate with each other only once a day. The pure emotions that are evoked while we follow their lives individually and together, make it the readers’ aim to complete the entire novel in one sitting. Human relations and words take up the stage in this love story of Ben and Fallon, which make us realize about our realities that we may have forgotten to make for ourselves “better” futures. November 9 is the day for Fallon and Ben. November 9 might also be the place for the reader to find themselves.
