The Plate Is His Canvas — Olaf Niemeier

Olaf Niemeier, ‘Chef Picasso’ presented by Fusion9, returned to Hyderabad once again on popular demand. His cuisine blends Eastern and Western spices and techniques, and is mainly intended to be fun. ‘’My creations have a lot in common with Picasso’s paintings. I take dishes and update them into modern, fused opposites. The variety of different cultures is what makes my Fusion Cuisine so exciting,’’ he adds. As a head chef at the Fusion Restaurant in the SIDE Hotel Hamburg he brought a breath of fresh air into the hospitality industry in Hamburg. ‘Chef Picasso’ by insiders, looks back on 30 years of international experience. After working in German star hotels, like the Hilton International, he was curious to experience new impressions and gain experience abroad. It took him from the London Hilton via the Vista International in New York to more Eastern realms. The first Indian-Western Fusion restaurant, and by doing so, launched a totally new and extraordinarily successful concept in the market. If you’re not familiar with his work, the least of Chef Picasso’s accolades include cooking for the likes of Goldie Hawn and Richard Gere. Formally trained in Germany but life trained in Shanghai, Vietnam, New Delhi, New York, London and Korea, chef Picasso goes to local markets, applies his artistry and gives new meaning to the term ‘international relations’.

CAMPUS BUZZ Amulya Sai, Teacher, St. Francis Paraphrasing Bernard Shaw’s words from Pygmalion, when passion and profession is the same, well, work doesn’t feel like work. I have subscribed to that belief ever since I read them. Think about it, only if you could do what you loved, life would be so much more than ‘just working.’ I teach a PG Diploma course in Mass Communication/Journalism. I have been fortunate enough to be taught by some very amazing teachers as well! My mother is a teacher too. So, it is in my blood I suppose. In this journey I have come across many students but one student I will never forget is Malvika. She turned in an assignment well ahead of the deadline! I was pleasantly surprised! It is not an everyday occurrence! Although I must mention here, I am 22 and I have just started teaching full time. So if I’m asked, your favorite student? A few years later, I might be able to add a few other names. My father often tells me that I will forever remain young in mind, frozen-at-22 sort of a thing, because I will not only know the latest research and articles related to my subject but I will also get to see the latest fashion trends and gadgets by being with these young minds.

Lovable Teachers!

My favorite teacher, Mrs. Kuhu Guha is from Delhi Public School and she’s the best teacher I have ever had. She is down to earth, friendly, encouraging as well as entertaining. She is highly supportive and more like a friend, mother and guide for her students. She will always have a special place in my life no matter how old I get. She has been a big inspiration and someday I want to be a teacher like her. I like interacting, and would love to enlighten people with my knowledge. I would like to support students, contribute to the society inculcating good values in the youth of tomorrow and inspire them to be the best, just the way my teachers have taught me. Mrs. Kuhu Guha has shifted to Bangalore and it has been long since I met her. I would like to go there and surprise her and show her how much she means to me as a Teacher, Friend and Guide. One incident that comes to my mind is when I was in the 12th grade, I had taken my phone to school one day, and it had the national anthem as my ringtone. We were in our classroom and just to have some fun and play a prank, my friend called on my phone just when the assembly had almost come to an end. So, when my phone rang with the national anthem, everybody assumed it was in the Ritu Tolasariya, s assembly and stood up for the anthem. It was only when my phone Student, St. Franci stopped ringing halfway through the anthem that everybody realized what it actually was and burst into fits of laughter. Even the teacher had trouble controlling herself!

20 SEPTEMBER, JULY, 2013 2013

A rotten tomato can be thrown away. Can a spoilt child be…? A teacher, as mentor, tries to refine every student who comes under his/her guidance. The process may vary but the goal is the same. Teachers over time have become more like friends, the old battering and scolding has changed into a friendlier and matured way of handling. Students share secrets, discuss future goals and dreams; and take their expert advice in day to day lives as well. There are times when girls at their primary school level, have that extreme madness for draping their mom’s “dupattas” and act like a teacher, some are very mischievous while some try hard to create a good impression by giving roses every morning to their loved teachers and so on… Tulip shares a few nostalgic moments from the diaries of students and teachers as they take a nostalgic walk on the occasion of Teacher’s Day

Vikas NM, Student NALSAR

I still remember I used to wear my dad’s glasses and have a mini blackboard and act like a teacher. So yeah it’s actually my dream come true to be a lecturer and I can see myself living up to my dreams. Teaching is my passion, imparting knowledge to the students, nevertheless learning from them too. I don’t like classroom teaching but encourage students for various academic events like quiz, debates etc. I have come across brilliant students in my teaching career; I can’t categorize a few of them as bad because they were just kids. So whatever they do or say is out of innocence so I just forgive and forget. Girls are sensitive to situations boys are rigid but very sweet too. Everyone is in touch with me so far. Students still call me up and tell me where they are placed in life and stuff. The special bond I share with them is priceless, they are like my kids, and they are young and growing! I love to see them grow and shine. Teaching is a never ending learning process. I still find it challenging to go to my class for my lectures. My only wish is to grow in this field of teaching, and have more students learn from me and come out with flying colors.

TULIP

CAMPUS BUZZ I have always been the naughty one in school – but since I fared well academically, I was always forgiven. That’s just how teachers are and that is why they are awesome! During my third year of law school, when most of us were more interested in reserving the last row seats to have fun. Also it was the time when cell phones were rare and one didn’t always know how to “secure” them. I borrowed my friend’s phone and started playing Tetris – obviously under the desk so the teacher couldn’t see. Unfortunately though, the mute button wasn’t on! Some of you will remember the typical Tetris tune – it is LOUD! The teacher heard it and came straight to me – I fiddled with the phone, somehow stopped the music and threw it in my bag. I pretended like I knew nothing and after a few minutes of arguing, the teacher was beginning to give up. Suddenly – the game’s music began to play again, and that was truly – game over – both in the game and for me. But at the end of the day I retrieved the confiscated phone from my teacher and promised her never to do it again. These are all special memories, teachers are strict and smooth at the same time, they punish and forgive at the same time, and that’s why they will always be special and will be revered forever.

My favorite teacher is Ms. Amulya Sai. She is more than a mere teacher; she is a guide and a friend to almost all her students. She is an inspiration for me to take up the profession in teaching. And what can be better than sharing your knowledge with others and creating an impact that would last for a lifetime. If I had to give a gift to my teacher on this special occasion of teachers’ day it would be makeup stuff. I know the most obvious one would be a pen because it’s more symbolic, but she is someone who is just more than a teacher to me. I remember once when we were in class, my phone started ringing and luckily it had the same ringtone as the aqua guard filter. Rimi Agarwal, And when ma’am questioned whose phone Student, St. Francis it was, we all pointed to the aqua guard filter outside the class, and she believed it!

Anureeta Das, Teacher, Villa Marie

I was a mix of super naughty, sometimes stupid and smart attitude. There was this one time when we were all given an assignment to do, but I couldn’t do it. So I stole my friend’s book from his bag and wrote my name and submitted it. But to my bad luck my teacher caught me and I was asked to do the assignment 10 times. I had a teacher, her name was “Anmol” whom I really disliked and vice-versa. And coincidently I also had a friend whose name was “Anmol”. So, whenever she entered the class, I used to scream her name (my friend’s name) and irritate my teacher. But fortunately she couldn’t take any action as she knew there was another guy in the class with the same name!! All in all I had a splendid time those days the memory of which never fades.

It’s amazing how a thread can be woven, felted, knitted or crocheted into beautiful artefacts.

poverty and endless gibberish. Right now I am learning calligraphy and I also doodle at times. I also spend few evenings with friends, though most of my close buds live overseas or in other cities in India, and I really miss spending enough time with them. Two in seven days of my week are movie nights at home. My family and I like to watch all kinds of movies, documentaries, etc. And just for kicks, we also watch movies in languages we don’t understand, it’s just how we like to spend time with each other, bond and laugh together.

Most artists have a vision that they need to express. This vision usually can’t be explained adequately in words. Art has its own language and vocabulary of visual ideas, form, color, space, art history and emotions. Artists connect through their paintings, their thoughts can be relatively understood from their piece of work. Sometimes you need an eye of an artist and sometimes a gaze is enough. Satpreet Kaur brings you some of the passionate artists, who share their passion for art and lot more.

E H ART

Armed with an MBA in Finance, I took the same path as many of my peers did: landed up in the United States of America and slogged it out in venture capital firms. I returned home soon and continued the same by starting a private equity firm and later sold the company to a big Bangalore-based corporate. Then I founded MUSE, which is a non-profit art gallery located in the Marriott Hotel, Hyderabad. MUSE is an effort for promoting art and encouraging charity, it’s intended to display contemporary art of various artists in support of a cause. My heart always beat for art, and since I’m not trained in art I decided to be a curator. My father and grandfather were ardent artists, my heart always upheld me in this stream. So, I unanimously relinquished my finance line, in spite of being a CA at a very prestigious company. The passion for art consumed me and hence changed my nature of work as an artist. I’ve been into this from past 2 years now. To my knowledge, people in Hyderabad buy art only if you have a charity connected to it. So I started an art gallery which is a nonprofit initiative in partnership with Marriot. As of now, we did more than 50 shows, each connected closely to a charity which has helped in generating a lot of money. We did a lot of interesting shows. Among them one is India’s biggest ever show of 35 American artists coming from Houston to Hyderabad. They bared the amount for the air tickets all by themselves and left an astounding performance. We then did several other contemporary events with a unique blend of arts like, fashion show, Art and music, Art and Literature, Art and giving. All efficient and eminent personalities like Salim Javed, Shabana Azmi, Anand Kabra, Suhani Pittie came up with their support for the cause, to my gallery to raise unbelievable funds in order to benefit the charity purpose. I am now tied to just one schedule: eat, drink, sleep and art. I don’t understand anything else in life till now, I don’t even wake up early. I just have one hobby of art, one passion for art and do only art I live with.

I would say Art is a liberating experience for the soul from the monotony of day to day life. As a child I was inspired by nature because I come from a beautiful valley. My artistic bend of mind used to make me draw designs in my school days. However, I got serious about it much later in life. That zenith for art was so evident in me that I could gauge my ability of becoming artist down the line, in the near future. I began painting expressively, 6 years back and have been doing great so far. Right now I feel it is not an end, but a new level of thinking where my imagination grows day by day.

I am widely acclaimed for both abstract and figurative paintings and actively participating in exhibiting my collection in numerous shows and galleries in the city. I started with realistic art with abstract form in it and we call it objective abstract art. In art we kind of travel into a phase, it comes from within you and it can have many reasons or inspirations. For me, the more spiritual my life became, the more I started capturing expressions of art on canvas. The phase I am now into, is non-objective (non-representational) abstract art. There

is no reference to any figurative reality, to any concrete recognizable physical objects. But it’s just so full and beautiful to express and explore this journey of art. My biggest inspiration comes from within me, the spirit of womanhood and freedom to live life, from God and nature, from my child and from many good souls whom I have met. Art is open to its viewers’ interpretation and one doesn’t have to be an artist to appreciate art. However, an artist alone can understand the intricacies of the elements behind the work of art. I would say to the beginners that they just have to start expressing this amazing thing with a little sincerity and passion and know that life is all about healing and helping each other.

My father was a great artist, I admired him for many of his paintings. He really inspired me to a vast extent, motivated me to do something, and gifted me a vision to be an amazing person like him. Down the line during my graduation, I eventually did accomplish my dream. I embarked on painting as my carrier four years back from now. I did my graduation from Osmania University and later on indulged myself into event organizing and majorly designing, as my talent for that has clearly exuded out of me as being immensely creative. Being a painter who loves capturing nature on canvas, has increased my awareness in truly seeing the wonders and beauty found in nature. You can see, each of my painting is a reflection of my experiences and I take immense pleasure in being able to reproduce and preserve each unique scene and situation on canvas. Often I come across a scene that catches my eye, giving me an idea and inspiration for a painting. I try to capture the very nature and essence of the subjects when painting wildlife or a landscape. I strive to make my work very realistic, so that when a viewer sees it, he can feel he is part of that particular scenery. I hope my paintings bring back a memory of an animal in the wild, or a special place that the viewer once saw or hoped to see.

Nature paintings aren’t a trend or fashion, they are ever green part of any interiors and will always suit your décor. Summing up, my realistic paintings represent the world of living things, being outdoors in nature. My paintings have been considered a suitable decor for all places, be it home, cottage or place of business. They have a calming

influence in your active lifestyle, presenting to you an element of beauty and interest to your walls. The power of art lies in the power to transcend our own interest and relate to the work and each other with more curiosity and more whole heartedness.

I did my PhD in Fine Arts from the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur. I had done the research work on non-living things in Indian and Western Paintings of the 20th centuary. The one word that could describe the artist’s works is “romance” it may be in the form of epic characters, culture, tradition, nature, landscape, animals, birds, human beings or others, the essence would be beauty in romance for me. I relish the essence of the works on romance and making an image in contemporary art on international level. I use contemporary colors and their amalgamation. I pay equal importance to the subject and texture and try to make each piece distinguished and extra attention to detailing. I did my BFA Painting from Sri Venkateshwara College of fine Arts. My passion for arts had all begun with my father’s recognition for his marvelous paintings, before he was graved. He was my major inspiration for whatever I am now. He has taught me every little thing in life which now are very valuable words for me, from which, I found the true spirit of life. My inclination and engrossment towards the figurative animal painting is pretty much in me since childhood. I basically do classic Indian kind of paintings, as in with the animals only. As of now, I have done more than 150 paintings, but I was more recognized after my solo and group exhibits, in different cities. Art is a way to stay focused for hours. My passion for painting never dies, as I found my profound interest in this field of art. BEAUTY

Ayurveda is a system which uses the inherent principles of nature to help maintain one’s health by keeping the individual’s mind and spirit in perfect equilibrium with nature. With globalization at its peak, it is not surprising to see an increase in the popularity of alternative health and wellness destinations across the planet. The day-to-day stress in the fast-paced world of today and the growing lack of faith in allopathic medication has forced people to look elsewhere and explore other forms of treatment for health and rejuvenation. Tulip meets up with Dr. Priya Rose of Kairali Ayurvedic Spa, who gives an insight into Ayurveda. Read on… What is the theory of Ayurveda? The theory of Ayurveda understands the five elements as the root cause of existence, a metaphysics common to all ancient cultures. The five elements appear in different combinations in each of us and form our unique individuality. They work in combination to form the tridosha system, including; Vata Dosha, representing ether and air; Pitta Dosh representing fire and water; and Kapha Dosha, representing water and earth. We doctors act as a guide to help you bring about more of the elements you lack by restructuring your lifestyle. Every course of Ayurvedic treatment begins with an in-depth personal examination, or Prakruti analysis, to identify the exact balance of elements ruling your body and mind. With personal attention from our Ayurvedic therapy team, you can be sure of a transformative retreat experience based on total health and spirituality. Why should one choose Ayurveda? Ayurveda believes each and every individual is a unique combination of three humors namely Vata, Pitta and Kapha and the five elements like akasham, vayu, prthivi, agni and jalam. Hence, the treatment and medicines for every individual would vary according to their body type which ensures a complete holistic treatment leading to a perfect balance of body, mind and soul. How are ayurvedic treatments different from other treatments? Ayurvedic treatments have their base in ancient shastras and granthas as prescribed by our Great Vaidyas like Charaka, Vaghdbhata and Susurutha. They consist of Abhyangam, Shirodhara, Elakizhi, Navarakizhi, Podikizhi, Pizhichil, Talapothichil, Pichu and Shodana (detoxification) treatments like Panchakarma. Abhyangam (Ayurvedic massage) promotes rejuvenation of mind and body, increases softness and suppleness of skin, lubricates joints, promotes good sleep etc. All procedures are carried out using pure Ayurvedic tailams (oils), choornams (powders), kashayams (decoctions), ghrithas (medicated ghee) etc.

What is Panchakarma? Ayurveda believes that Rogam (disease) is caused due to intake of unhealthy food and improper lifestyle. When this lifestyle continues for a prolonged period of time, it results in accumulation of toxins in the body and imbalance of tridoshas ultimately leading to diseases. Ayurveda believes in treating the disease from its root and preventing its reoccurrence. Panchakarma's main role is to cleanse the body of these deep rooted toxins. It comprises of five important therapies like Vamanam (medicated emesis), virechanam (medicated purgation), basti (medicated enema), nasyam (instilling of nasal medication) and raktamokshanam (bloodletting). What are the emotional benefits of Ayurveda? Inside our endless mental processes, reactions and preferences there is a core of simple consciousness, where our conflicting perceptions cease and all returns to universal being. This is the approach to health and lifestyle employed by modern behavioral therapy, as well as the most ancient and intuitive Eastern healing arts. Ayurveda is the science of perfecting the soul’s vehicle by healing mental strife as well as bodily suffering, so that one may strengthen their concentration on the Divine. In traditional Indian rhetoric, this aids the journey towards enlightenment; however, it is a thoroughly practical approach to getting the best out of life at every stage of spiritual advancement. The all-important ability to find peace within ourselves brings clarity and a sense of purpose to life, and invests all our relationships with newly formed optimism. What are the various treatments provided at Kairali? We at Kairali provide Doctor's consultancy, with a full range of traditional Ayurvedic treatments, like Panchakarma, Shirodhara, Ayurvedic massage, Indian head massage, Natural beauty treatments, including facials, milk baths and body packs, Weight-loss and slimming programs, Ayurvedic steam and sauna treatment, Ayurvedic pharmacy and herbal medicine prescription, Lifestyle coaching, Yoga and Meditation courses along with Ayurvedic nutrition.

Plaster, is one of the most universally used term. Most of our Ganesha idols are made up of Plaster of Paris. Unfortunately, this does not disintegrate easily and the idol floats in water after immersion. With the increase in global warming and keeping in mind about the environment, many of them have started using eco friendly Ganesh idols which are easily available in market. So pledge to save your environment and go green this season!

“Ganesh Chaturthi is a festival celebrated honoring the birth of Lord Ganesha. On this auspicious day we bring Lord Ganesha’s idol and seat him amidst lotus leaves and decorate him with sparkles and flowers. We worship him by performing the pooja and by offering mouth savoring sweet delicacies. On the 11th day we immerse the idol and pray to Lord Ganesha for inner spiritual strength to attain peace, success and prosperity. This year I plan to go green and get a clay idol and paint it at home. This is the most cherished time of the year and I eagerly await his return the next year.” Laveena Chugani, Facebook India

“Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the most important festivals for me, as I’m a Marwadi, I’ve got different customs to follow. All the 11 days we dress up and a pooja is performed. This is what my family usually follows. But this year I am thinking of going green. I would limit my expenses and donate the rest of the money that I can save just to see the joy on the faces of the people who can’t afford celebrating such festivals. This Ganesh Chaturthi I might not enjoy as much as I normally do, but I’ll surely be blessed by many souls.” Lokesh Biyani, Photographer Ganesh Chaturthi is the festival I eagerly look forward to, every year. Apart from clay Ganesh sthaapna and the regular tambola, we incorporate a lot of laddu eating competitions. We also enact a play to educate the younger lot about the significance of this festival. This year, we plan to have a major laddu auction and clay Ganesha distribution in every house in our locality so that everyone goes the Eco friendly way. The whole idea of us celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi is to celebrate Lord Ganesha, thank him for his generous blessings and bring the entire community back to life. Ganpati Bappa Morya! He started out as a Jr. Architect with a firm in 1999 and branched out with his own practice Na Architects (Niroop Associates) in 2002 with his wife Rupana Reddy, who is a designer too. As an individual he is socially conscious, fun loving and a people’s person, who gets his kicks out of his client’s twinkle in the eye. He chose architecture because of creativity involved in it and the fact that he can experience a tremendous sense of delight when his concepts on paper transform into real buildings. As time progressed, he has been intrigued by how buildings could affect the way people live, their moods and behavior. “We spend most of our lives in buildings - through architecture you can influence the way people live their lives for the better,” he adds. His USP is his ability to reach beyond their comfort zone, challenge himself and always aim at incorporating latest ideas, concepts and technologies into the client requirements and be able to deliver his services in collaborative, creative and open association with his clients. When it comes to latest trends he says it’s difficult to point out just one. He adds, “For Interior design the biggest trend that I am thinking will start taking shape in 2013 is that design will begin to mirror male preferences like sober furniture details, less flashy colors and functionality over “cuteness” are just some of the features expectedto take off. Another trend expected to dominate is Stripes. Be it carpets, wallpapers, upholstery, graphic art- each of these elements may be expected to wear the distinct feature of movement defined by stripes. Yet other would be Green walls, garden rooftops, Green living will be a key factor in design and architecture this year. From mobile plant panels to framed plant screens with lighting effects, these ideas can bring a fresh touch to any apartment or public space.”

Creative FREEDOM For him Inspiration literally could come from anywhere, nature, environment, history, music or just travelling. For him it is a true art of balancing when it comes to his clients and their ideas. He is known for his totally out of the box designs, extreme creative details and finesse. He stands out from others in the field as he always tries and does something new without repeating any part of his previous design. According to him, there is no trend attached to designing at present. Decked On DESIGN Raaj Sree Ram “It was in 1990, when my senior, legal counsel, gave me an opportunity to design and convert his flat in Vizag into studio apartments which turned out great. He thus gave me another opportunity to design the interiors of his house in Hyderabad and a jewellery store in Vizag. Since then there has been no looking back.” His firm M/s. Interiors has designed and executed most of the corporate offices and hospital interiors in Hyderabad. Their expertise is to design a project end to end, and handle all aspects of design from architecture, landscaping, interior design and decoration. Their team is excellent in executing the projects because they believe that a design is as good as it is executed. There is no trick and there is definitely no ‘USP’, for him it’s all about their work. “However much a person may want to be original, there will be some aspects which will be borrowed and similarly a design copied will never be like the original.” He adds. They have clients who want contemporary and minimalistic houses, some want opulent and rich interiors and yet some want classic and fusion designs. Everyone wants to use the latest materials which make the latest trends, giving people plenty of options to choose from. Interacting with the client, understanding his needs, aspirations, limitations and justifying his decision of choosing one as his interior designer and getting the act right is what he considers his USP. The clients enthusiasm, dreams and ideas are his inspiration. Every previous work done by him and his contemporaries is an inspiration. “When you are out to create, everything around you is a source of inspiration, “he adds. 36 SEPTEMBER, 2013

He graduated in law but felt it didn’t quite do justice to his sense of innovation and creativity. He is a perfectionist and would not stop at being a mediocre in both design and execution. For him 'Agree to Disagree' is the mantra to success. Putting up a designer’s perspective and convincing the client is not always successful. In such cases working around the idea of the client and making his ideas work is what makes him a good designer.

For him, “Agree to Disagree is the mantra to sucess.”....

What’s more, there is absolutely no monotony in this field as no two projects are identical.

Therefore, longevity always stays on the back of my mind whenever I approach the drawing table for designing any fresh assignment.” According to him, one of the biggest trends we are likely to see in 2013 is an assertion of individuality and the expression of personalized style preferences clubbed with uniqueness and dynamism, with sleek straight line concepts in top notch form. We have also received an award from Laticrete IIID AP Awards for Residential Design and Commercial Interiors. Along with my design work, I feel it is very important to be able to strike an equation between earning and giving to society. I have been actively involved with organizations such as FICCI Ladies Organization(FLO), that are raising concerns about child labor, child education and women empowerment. I am on the visiting faculty of JNAFAU and an Academic Advisory member to Hamstech. I have been an active member of IIID Hyderabad for several years now and I find that it has been a wonderful avenue for us professionals in the design industry.”

Being an active part of this field for almost 13 years now she understands that there are no short cuts or tricks that can work as effectively as hard work home offices, home automation and home theatre systems. These days eye catching pop and neon culture are trending fast in interiors as well. Sona draws inspiration, from the positivity around, she is self driven and even if she has had a bad day, she tries to shrug it off rather than stretching it to the next day. The challenges that come with every project is inspiring and motivating for her. Most of the Clients today give their interior designer the liberty to design completely and she is one of those who have faith from the client’s side throughout the project. When there is clash in ideas and thoughts with clients, she takes them through the process of educating them with rationality. “I won’t be happy myself until my client - the end user, is happy and satisfied. After all, I’m designing for them right?” she adds.

She is always well acquainted with the latest materials, trends, and lots of global exposure which she experiences during her extensive travelling and visits to exhibitions nationally and internationally. Being well aware of everything relating to this profession is what she considers her USP. She says that trends in interiors keep changing at regular intervals, and the best part is that the clients these days are aware and knowledgeable about the ‘look’ and ‘feel’ that they want. Bringing about their one unique quality into her style is very important to her. Her major inspiration for a project is the brief given by the clients. It’s the people that inspire her to bring out their personality in her design and for a commercial project, it is the product or the service a space delivers which completely inspires her. Her designs are about the people who embrace the space and not about her, and that exactly is what she believes in as her USP. Her favorite part of the job is space planning and decorating spaces. She believes, she is dexterous enough to add colors and objects together in an interesting fashion. She can create magic out of whatever she has been given. When it comes to saying ‘No’ to a client she has no qualms, she says it’s as easy as a doctor telling not to eat/drink certain things, and she adds she is fortunate enough that her clients completely trust her suggestions/ decisions. She loves challenges and easing out the client’s stress by taking her magic wand metaphorically. She herself is passionate about style and finish, and loves assisting clients to select their crockery, cutlery, platter, trays, etc and also helps them in presentation of laying a table for dinner or hi-tea.

She believes she is destiny’s child and Interior Designing as a profession just happened to her. She was merely 20, armed with a Bachelors degree in Home Science, when she set out in this. “I took it up first as an opportunity and a month later I realized this is what I wanted to do in life. So I decided not to appear for my M.Sc entrance. I got my first project the day after I turned 21 which was to design and execute an 8’X8’ stall for a tile company. First few years of my career were fun and involved a lot of learning. My initial work consisted of a variety of work, but I realized my heart was in residential design. I spent a lot of time at sites and I would say a lot of learning has been hands on as I didn’t have a formal education in design.”

She happened to stumble in this field through modeling, and with the support and motivation from people close to her, she went ahead and there has been no turning back since then.

Kavya Bali

“Fashion became synonymous with my career in modeling and I started developing an interest towards the creative outcome of how a little styling could transform oneself and that’s when I started blogging. I had to unleash my creativity and fervor for fashion somewhere and this seemed to be the best platform to show my own style. I would say my blog is a mélange of street fashion and high fashion genre. It led to many landmark moments but the best was when Guess watches international chose me to represent India in their international blog.”

FASHION FOR CURVY WOMEN

One of the keys to having great style is knowing what kind of clothes work for your body type! Satpreet Kaur in an exclusive chat with Kavya Bali brings in tips that will help all the curvy chicks to style high in no time. Like they say: “if you got it, flaunt it!”

48 SEPTEMBER, 2013

She shares and explores more options of style and fashion for women on the curvy side, basically the Indian women genre, who find it difficult to style their curves, especially in western. From accessories to the right silhouettes to most amazing colors to make you look petite we have covered all.

Absolutely. It’s all about balancing your proportions according to your body type. Pair your skinny jeans with a flowing shirt and loose long casual vest that hits just above the widest part of your hips. Wear a long necklace to draw the eye down. Balance full hips with a full top and accessorize it with a waist belt sash to highlight your waist.

figure, stick to solid-colored clothing or color blocking.

What kind of patterns, fabrics and silhouettes can curvy women opt for to look more glamorous without looking flabby?

Universal trends for every shape would be an a-line dress, wrap dress, shift dress, well fitted denim or leggings with pointed heels. For a glam night out opt for more fitted options, which will cinch you in at the waist, and will make the most of your shape. A bandage dress is a typical example of this. The fabric should be firm enough to hold you in and hug your body, without being too stretchy or skin tight. A figure-hugging cut with parallel

and even camouflages mild cellulite and spider veins, which will help you, feel more confident wearing sleeveless tops and shorter skirts.

What kind of western wear is best suited for women who are more on the curvy side?

Look for dresses in blocks of color or go with the monochromatic blocks on a dress. Maxi dresses, medium sized printed dresses/ tops are flattering. Peplum style is a rage for covering tummy and adding glam factor to the outfit.

Many women stick to black on special occasions because of a known fact that it hides flaws, what are the other colors that can make women look petite?

Black has been the universal color for slimming, so a black LBD is a must have in your closet for those days when you feel nothing fits right. Also, darker shades of colors like blue, purple and brown can also help to hide flaws and create a slimming illusion. Opt for a deep-colored blouse and dark pants with thin vertical pinstripes to create a tall and lean effect. Don’t wear a bright shirt if you’re trying to hide a big belly or large chest, and stay away from bright pants if you have a big bottom and wide hips. To downplay a full

vertical seams will stretch out your waist and flatten your stomach. Avoid lightweight materials such as chiffon and silk as they will not give you enough support.

It’s a myth. If you have tons of fabric draped on you it doesn’t necessarily mean that it can make one look slim. Don’t pack on layers of baggy clothes to try to cover-up your body. Contrary to what people may believe, baggy dresses will just make you look bigger. Select silhouettes and fabrics that don’t cling to your body, but drape nicely.

What are the best accessories curvy women can go for to enhance their look? For a full-figured woman, carrying a tiny purse or wearing a thin belt will only draw attention to your size. Larger women should try a medium-sized purse, a wide belt, a necklace with a large pendant, or a bigger watch. The most important factor that helps one look thinner is a good tan. Your skin is your most important accessory, which means that keeping it great is the key to really looking your best. A bronze, even tan hides skin flaws

Flawless Makeup On Your

BIG DAY.. How to get perfect makeup on your wedding day? The correct products and best ingredients will help you have long lasting, perfect makeup for your wedding day. Our useful tips and product recommendations should ensure flawless wedding makeup. Makeup tip 1: It’s a crime not to prime! After moisturising, use a primer to ensure that your face is prepped and ready for foundation; this is the first step in achieving beautifully flawless, long lasting makeup. Primers are generally silicon based and create a perfect base for foundation, helping makeup bond to the skin’s surface and hold it in place. Besides giving your makeup more staying power, other benefits include smoother application, reduced appearance of pores, fine lines and imperfections. It helps plump out the skin too; this is great for mature complexions. Once you have used a primer, you won’t be without it and as the Makeup Artist Varonica saying goes, ‘It’s a crime not to prime!’ Application tip: Take a small amount of primer, using either clean fingers or a foundation brush. Apply evenly all over facial surface avoiding the eye area. Do not rub into skin, just allow primer to penetrate. Wedding makeup tip 2: Trick of the trade Apply your eye makeup before foundation. When an eye makeup brush is overloaded with eye shadow, you can end up with what is known as ‘fall out’, where pigments of eye shadow sprinkle under and around the eyes. When you try rubbing it away it can turn into an ugly mess. Application tip: One easy way of avoiding ‘fall out’ is by applying eye makeup before foundation. This is a really useful tip, especially when using loose pigment shadows. Wedding makeup tip 3: No more blushing brides Concealers are a must for hiding flaws and imperfections; be clever with your colour choices and application technique and the end result can be quite amazing. People often say that green toned concealers reduce 50 SEPTEMBER, 2013

redness, but they will only make you look, well, green! Instead, choose a yellow based concealer which neutralises areas of redness such as high cheek colour, broken veins or angry red spots – you should find this to be far more effective. Application tip: Apply concealer with a small flat brush or clean fingers. Take a small amount of concealer, dab and press onto skin until the redness starts to diminish. To finish, apply a small amount of foundation over the concealed areas and blend until the makeup appears even. Wedding makeup tip 4: Perfect with powder Once the foundation is on it will feel moist and look shiny. If a powder is not applied over the top of your makeup it will eventually slide away, so a loose powder is essential in order to fix and hold makeup in place, plus loose powder particles absorb any excess moisture and oil thus erasing any shine. Application Tip: Take a powder puff or sponge and press it into the loose powder. Follow by gently pressing the puff over the face, particularly concentrating on the t-zone area and chin. Then with a big fluffy powder brush, sweep away any excess powder. Wedding makeup tip 5: For long lasting lipstick... Lipstick is one item which does require the odd touch up. Unfortunately, long lasting lipsticks are drying and after a couple hours’ wear will begin to show signs of dryness. However, follow my next tip to keep your lips looking hydrated and fresh just that little bit longer.

Application Tip: Apply foundation and a tiny bit of powder over the lips. Now apply your lip liner of choice, filling the entire lip area. The next step is to use a lip brush and sweep over the lips with a moisturising lipstick, then take a tissue and blot. Repeat the blotting and lipstick process two or three times. Wedding makeup tip 6: And to finish! Apply a touch of makeup finishing spray. There was a time when these could only be found in a makeup professional’s kit, but nowadays they are becoming ever increasingly popular and more easily accessible for everyday consumers. Makeup finishing mists are made with special polymers which are designed to keep makeup pigment fixed in place. Application tip: Once all makeup and powder has been applied, holding the finishing spray 12”-14” away, spritz a couple of times over your face, keeping eyes and mouth closed. Allow one or two minutes for dry time, and then blot away any excess moisture with a tissue. You can then apply a touch of more powder and repeat the process again for increased longevity. So there we have it! As you will see the key to long lasting flawless makeup is carefully selecting and layering appropriate products, rather than caking your skin with thick and heavy makeup!

LOUVRE

The Musée du Louvre, the Louvre Museum or simply The Louvre is one of the world’s largest museums, and a historic monument. A central landmark of Paris, with more than 8 million visitors each year, the Louvre is the world's most visited museum. The museum is housed in the Louvre Palace (Palais du Louvre) which was a fortress built in the late 12th century under Philip II. Remnants of the fortress are visible in the basement of the museum. The Musée du Louvre contains more than 380,000 objects and displays 35,000 works of art in eight curatorial departments. The collection is divided among eight curatorial departments: Egyptian Antiquities; Near Eastern Antiquities; Greek, Etruscan and Roman Antiquities; Islamic Art; Sculpture; Decorative Arts; Paintings; Prints and Drawings.

The Grand Palais is one of Paris’ most recognizable landmarks; to its magnificent glass-domed roof. The Grand Palais is currently the largest existing ironwork and glass structure in the world. There are actually three different areas in the Grand Palais, each with a different entrance. For more than 100 years, the Grand Palais has been a public exhibition hall and host to a variety of grand events. GARNIER

The Palais Garnier is a 1,979-seat opera house, which was built from 1861 to 1875 for the Paris Opera. The theatre was also often referred to as the Opéra Garnier, the Opéra de Paris or simply the Opéra. The Palais Garnier is probably the most famous opera house in the world, a symbol of Paris like Notre Dame Cathedral, or the Louvre. Among the buildings constructed in Paris during the Second Empire, besides being the most expensive, Palais Garnier has been described as the only one that is “unquestionably a masterpiece of the first rank”. The Palais Garnier also houses the Bibliothèque-Musée de l’Opéra de Paris (Paris Opera Library-Museum). Although the Library-Museum is no longer managed by the Opera and is part of the Bibliothèque nationale de France, the museum is included in unaccompanied tours of the Palais Garnier.

Notre Dame

DE PARIS

Notre-Dame de Paris, also known as Notre-Dame Cathedral or simply Notre-Dame, is a historic Roman Rite Catholic Marian cathedral on the eastern half of the Paris. The cathedral is widely considered to be one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture and among the largest and most well-known church buildings in the world. The naturalism of its sculptures and stained glasses are in contrast with earlier Romanesque architecture. The cathedral treasury is notable for its reliquary which houses some of Catholicism’s most important firstclass relics including the purported Crown of Thorns, a fragment of the True Cross, and one of the Holy Nails. It is also one of the most famous tourist attractions in Paris.

Tulip asked a few Hyderabadis to share their experiences about their visit to Paris... We had been on a short trip to Paris during mid March. We went to see the Eiffel Tower. The climate there at that time was really cold. Eiffel Tower has three levels. Due to the cold weather we could only go till the second level as it was freezing out there. We kept looking for heaters everywhere so that we could keep ourselves warm. Despite the cold weather, we had lots of fun as we were in a big group. The people there are very humble, warm and nice. The next day we went to a show called lido show which was good fun. After the show, we had some time for shopping which was a great experience. The roads and the architecture are wonderful. Paris is truly a beautiful and amazing city. I had a lot of fun and I would suggest everyone in Hyderabad to definitely visit Paris and enjoy its beauty. Bhavika, Businesswoman Paris is an amazing place to visit. I had visited Paris last August with my mom and I had the time of my life. I had been to Eiffel Tower and Disneyland in Paris and I loved both the places. Eiffel Tower looks very beautiful in the night with all the lighting and Disneyland is a fascinating place for the kids. But the month of August is not very favorable to visit as it is very humid that time. A few parts of the city however are not very clean. People there are extremely sweet and helpful. Shopping there is a great pleasure. There are a variety of stores and it was really exciting to find a few Indian stores in Paris as well. Kavita Sabharwal, Working Professional

Chennai Express breaks records in Pakistan

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Chennai Express’ has grossed rupees 40 million, breaking all box office records in Pakistan’s biggest city after its release at the Eid weekend on August 9. The previous record for highest grossing movie from India was held by Salman Khan’s ‘Dabangg’ in Karachi. Due to the high demand for tickets the cinema owners had also hiked prices for ‘Chennai Express’ and in some areas it was being screened in five to six shows a day. Pakistani film critics have also described the film as an entertaining time pass and one critic wrote, “The Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer is an aesthetically selected evolution of the ‘Dabangg’ genre.” Pakistani people enjoy Shahrukh Khan movies. As it was an Eid release, Chennai Express ticket sales exceeded the expectations and stood the highest collector over some of the Pakistani movies and Hollywood blockbuster, ‘Wolverine.’

Sridevi turns 50!

Hard to believe but the ageless diva of Indian cinema turned 50. Even those who are not her fans would agree that Sridevi looks not a day older than 40. Filmmaker Boney Kapoor decided to throw a lavish party to celebrate his wife and actress Sridevi’s birthday. Looks like Boney and daughters Jhanvi and Khushi wanted it to be quite a memorable evening — there was a special audio-visual presentation with bytes from many Bollywood actors on Sri. Not just that, the interiors of the club had posters from her best films and also outfits of some of her most memorable roles. Also spotted Huma Qureshi, Mahesh Bhupathi and Lara Dutta, Shamita Shetty, Raj Kundra and Sushmita Sen partying with the actress. Brother-in-law Anil Kapoor and his wife Sunita were the early ones here. From the political circle, we spotted Union Minister of External Affairs Salman Khurshid and Praful Patel at the do.

Bhaag Milkha goes Tax free !

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’, Bollywood’s ode to star athlete Milkha Singh, was made tax free by the Bihar government. The decision was taken by the cabinet at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The move was to provide an opportunity to people to watch this movie, which is about one of our greatest athletes. Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ stars Farhan Akhtar, who plays Milkha Singh, and Sonam Kapoor.

A year of sequels Making sequels is a tricky business, if your movie is half the heart and twice the style of the original you could strike gold but more often than not sequels fail to recreate the same magic as the original. With the release of ‘Once upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara’ this month, we look at the sequels coming up this year. The most awaited 3D Super Hero flick to hit the blockbuster would definitely be ‘ Krissh 3’ starring the Krissh, Hrithik Roshan and Vivek oberoi playing the antagonist. With some spooky stuff and inspiration from the paranormal activity we have ‘Ragini MMS 2’ which is a sequel to ‘Ragini MMS’ starring Sunny leone. ‘Rock on 2’ - The surprise musical hit is all set to return with the same caste for a second run in the theatres this year and how could we forget the most anticipated movie of 2013, ‘Dhoom 3’ a sequel to’ Dhoom 2’ which will see Aamir Khan as the villain along with Katrina Kaif ending the year with a Dhoom on a Christmas release. Let’s see if these movies create the same magic as their originals!

MOVIES Movie Reviews

Chennai Express If you love mindless comedy, action, drama and romance and if you are willing to remove ‘bakwas’ word from your dictionary, you must watch this film. Your children are going to love it. Rohit Shetty has made a complete family entertainer. Chennai Express begins with the famous train sequence of DDLJ and this time it is Deepika who needs the hero’s hand. Chennai Express can also be called the ‘best of SRK’ as its storyline has assimilated the best shots from several of his films. SRK is at his best in romantic scenes. But he gets this opportunity only at the end of the film. He is slightly weak in comedy and quite unconvincing in action sequences. But Deepika has mastered the role of Meena. Her chemistry with SRK however is less than perfect. This film has nothing sort of promoted national integration as was earlier shown in promos. Except for SRK’s speech to Deepika’s father in which he says love knows no boundary, religion or region. But we all know this, isn’t it?

The Conjuring Watch this and you’ll never play hide and clap again! The Conjuring records how real-life paranormal investigators and devout Catholics Ed and Lorraine Warren (played for maximum realism, squareness and humourlessness by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) were summoned to investigate a demonic presence in a family house in Harrisville, Rhode Island. This was occupied by laid-back non-believers Carolyn and Roger Perron (Ron Livingston and Lili Taylor) and their five daughters. It was nearly occupied by their dog, but the mutt refused to go in. Birds started flying into the house and breaking their necks. All the clocks stopped at 3.07am. Then there were the noises. It is hair-raising, creepy and horrifying. It just leaves you haunted when you decide to sleep the very night.

1000 Abbaddalu The film 1000 Abaddalu is a romantic comedy entertainer with a few masala elements. Sairam Shankar’s performance, Teja’s interesting script and a few funny dialogues, Nagababu, Naveen and Venu’s hilarious comedy, Ramana Gogula’s music and background score and pictursation are some of the main attractions in the movie. A few unconvincing, unrealistic and dragging sequences and predictable plot in the second half are the major drawbacks of the film.

The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman (Goodreads Author)

A middle-aged man returns to his childhood home to attend a funeral. Although the house he lived is long gone, he is drawn to the farm at the end of the road, where, when he was seven, he encountered a most remarkable girl, Lettie Hempstock, and her mother grandmother. He hasn’t thought of Lettie in decades, and yet as he sits by the pond (a pond that she’d claimed was an ocean) behind the ramshackle old farmhouse, the unremembered past comes flooding back. And it is a past too strange, too frightening, too dangerous to have happened to anyone, let alone a small boy. Forty years earlier, a man committed suicide in a stolen car at the farm at the end of the road. Like a fuse on a firework, his death lit a touchpaper and resonated in unimaginable ways. The darkness was unleashed, something scary and thoroughly incomprehensible to a little boy. And Lettie magical, comforting, wise beyond her years promised to protect him, no matter what. A groundbreaking work from a master, The Ocean at the End of the Lane is told with a rare understanding of all that makes us human, and shows the power of stories to reveal and shelter us from the darkness inside and out. It is a stirring, terrifying, and elegiac fable as delicate as a butterfly’s wings and as menacing as a knife in the dark. SEPTEMBER, 2013 67

Fa ree Your Spiritual Guide to Future

FORTUNE

f you are one of those who do not believe in tarot reading, we give you a reason why you should! Faree, a 25 year old sparkling and bubbly girl could know what you would be in the near future. She claims that she’s not the typical tarot reader who sits in a dark room with all the beaded chains and accessories but considers herself God’s messenger to communicate with the sufferer. She’s been part of this life for almost 20 years, but gave up her law career 5 years back to pursue this field. She adds, “I find immense peace when I am helping people come out of their misery, it’s not a profession it is more of a gifted passion I use to help people who need it”.

I

Following a series of process that include tarot reading, she responds to the queries, but more than that, she develops a connection with your soul which helps her answer what you haven’t even thought about. She gives you a detail report about what, why and how of the problem using tarot as a medium. She assures that nothing changes overnight, but a true belief and her guidance helps you overcome it, and helps put you in the right path. One of the incidents she discussed with us is where she had visions about a guy being an IPS officer and in the end he turned out to be one, in spite of his family, friends and his own father not believing in him. She believes in Karma and the rule that heaven and hell are very much here on earth. The first time she experienced visions were at a tender age of 16 when her sister wanted to get into a medical college but there was no ray of hope. Faree had the confidence about her visions and her sister proudly made it to the desired college. A staunch believer of Sai Baba she dreams of opening an Ashram some where in the near future. She believes that a solution to the problem is within one’s self, and she is always available as a friend, guide, life saver and much more to those who need her. She says she is the message conveyer and more of a Spiritual Guru, not just a tarot card reader, and her belief in destiny makes things work out for her. Sometimes these visions also take a toll on her and affect her health as she takes in all the negative vibes from a person but that doesn’t prevent her from helping people. Thus, we could say we have a life saver who would guide us in choosing the right path. SEPTEMBER, 2013 81

VIRGO

August 23 - September 22

Affection, tenderness, joy of life – you have it all this month, and the warm influence of Temperance combines wonderfully well with the powerful energies from Strength, and together they offer you an idyllic month in all matters of the heart. You have all the characteristics you need for seducing and for being seduced, regardless of who is involved – your long-term partner, a new lover, your parents, your children, or your friends … In other words - happiness for all around you! On the work front, September is a month of great calm, with no breeze in the air… You’re just about to reach the end of a very slow period, and while it’s true that things will start to happen, they won’t happen very fast. You can be confident, though; that with the cards behind you, your professional future looks set to take a turn for the better. So, have confidence. You won’t necessarily make sparks fly within the next few days, but you’re embarking on a period that could be full of promise. Stay on course! Angel Tip For Birthday Month: Possibly, you will learn how it feels taking on more than you can handle. Life is exciting. Like a bolt out of the blue new passions come and old passions depart from you. Control of others does not bring you safety, success or satisfaction. Self-control and self-transformation is helpful.

LIBRA

(September 23 - October 22) If you’re single, love could be in the air this month, but you won’t grab it! You’re represented by the cards, which prevent you from taking advantage of the great opportunities that judgment throws into your path. There’ll be new openings around you all month but you’ll be unable to open the door and make the most of them. At least try to open up to the people who already care about you, and the day won’t be a total loss. Opportunities arise in your professional life that might well improve your situation beyond your expectations. Your cards this September are the messenger of good news, and Strength gives you all the energy and determination that you need to seize the moment. So, keep your eyes open and your ears pricked. You don’t want to miss out.

SCORPIO

(October 23 - November 21) This month you’ll not mince your words when talking to the people you love. You’ve decided that sincerity is the key to good relationships and you abhor any form of hypocrisy. Cards indicate that certain people will greatly appreciate your frankness, while others will be hurt, and take offense. Notwithstanding these different reactions, you know deep in your heart that this is the only way in which you will achieve the equilibrium that you need. The association of the Moon and Justice denotes a fulfilling career focused on creative projects that are grounded in reality. You are making commitments that will secure your future and, free you from some heavy responsibilities, you’ll be able to give free rein to your imagination. You’ll achieve a rational balance between aspiration and duty, dreams and reality. 82 SEPTEMBER, 2013

SAGITTARIUS

(November 22 - December 21) This month, you’re going to need all the goodwill from people around you to calm your fiery energy. The cards fill you with buzzing energy, you could literally move mountains - and there is no way you are going to hold back your feelings. This may come as a bit of a surprise to your loved one(s), who may not feel quite so energetic and affectionate. If they are calm and reassuring, they’ll bring you back to your senses and cool your ardor somewhat. At work, almost nothing can upset you now. The association of the cards indicates a lot of confidence in you and your ability to find creative and ingenious solutions to any problems you encounter. Even if you’re a little hypersensitive, you know how to preserve a calm exterior under any circumstance, enabling you to react in the right way. You inspire confidence!

CAPRICORN

(December 22 - January 19) It’s going to be a hard month, to let yourself go with the flow that your heart demands for near and dear ones. And yet, it is not that you don’t have the energy – after all, you’re under the influence of Strength. But it’s the people around you, who seem to be playing a double game so you don’t quite know where you stand with them, and that’s somewhat bewildering. You have reason to doubt the honesty of certain people who are close to you, and you are now afraid of being your usual spontaneous self. In your professional life, it is one thing to take a step back, put some distance between you and the others, but it is not right to shy away from your duties and responsibilities. Under the cards you might be inclined to fall into the trap of running away from discussions

and problems in order to avoid taking sides. You need to have more self-assurance if you want to make progress.

AQUARIUS

(January 20 - February 18) Against the secure backdrop of long-term stability, you do everything in your power to make things go smoothly as far as emotional attachments are concerned. The cards and angels make you inclined towards compromise, goodwill and receptiveness towards your significant other. You seek balance in all things and with your current air of confidence; you can’t help drawing people towards you. In your work environment, you are someone who is dedicated to their work and who also has no qualms helping others. You literally radiate reassurance and success. Your colleagues are happy to take you into their confidence, and your boss is delighted to confer you with more important projects. Even so, you manage to remain modest and helpful.

PISCES

(February 19 - March 20) Indecision and instability seem to sway sway in your love life this month, while the cards generate a certain craving for stability, the card, ‘Fool’ frees you from normal constraints. In your dealings with those close to you, you’re torn between strict values and a vital need for freedom, and you might want to run and hide. But it’s not a good idea to shut yourself up in your room with the pillow over your head! In the professional sphere, the cards heralds numerous difficulties linked to someone or other’s excessively casual attitude or bad management. With the readings representing you, in the face of these problems your first inclination is to flee all responsibilities and withdraw into yourself to consider the situation. You don’t have enough courage or faith in yourself to deal with whatever may come your way

uncertainties. Try to be more subtle and flexible in your interaction with others and leave a few things to chance. On a professional level, the reading is making your imagination bubble with ideas, which is helping you to think up some ingenious solutions. The Wheel of Fortune is bearing you off in a flurry of lucky opportunities that are there for the taking. This is a very positive month, which could see the fruition of certain projects that are as creative intellectually as they are viable commercially. Throw yourself into your work - it’ll be worth it!

GEMINI

(May 21 - June 20) You will be in two minds this entire month. On one hand you want to be alone and meditate, on the other you want to openly express your love. As a matter of fact, this combination of cards tells you that you would benefit from breaking out of your own little world and open up towards others. Even though it is not your style to make passionate declarations, you will be able to get across the sincerity and the depth of your feelings. Under the influence of the cards, it is difficult for you to make any headway in your professional life. It is likely that your projects are crawling along slowly and that any suggestion you make lacks force. You simply don’t have the strength or the willpower to fight for your ideas, or even make yourself heard, and this kind of lethargy is going to be working against you this time. What are you proposing to do about it, is your call.

CANCER

ARIES

(June 21 - July 22) You’ve no time for subtlety in your love life this September. With the cards watching over you, you’re guided above all by passion and by the power to dominate those around you. Your sex drive’s cranked up several notches and in your current possessive, jealous frame of mind, no one is safe! Watch out, because this impulsive and impatient behavior could result in a quarrel with your partner or a misunderstanding with others close to you… In the professional sphere, the cards indicate that a change in your current status will enable you to jump further and higher than ever before. So, if you have an ambition, don’t be shy! Remove the barriers, take down the walls, and break with the routine that’s forcing you in a mold that no longer suits you. Angel tip: Get more power by vowing to become a “master.” Improved self-expression is dramatic and subtle. Unique new opportunities bring pleasant surprises. Your best ideas are ready for television.

TAURUS

(July 23 - August 22) This month you may be feeling a bit like a hermit crab emotionally. The cards are making you liable to keep your thoughts and feelings to yourself rather than share them with the one you love. This is going to make it difficult to have a happy and fulfilling month! Don’t be so suspicious and things will go more smoothly. In the work environment, your goals are clear and you know exactly what steps you need to take. Sadly, the same cannot be said of the people around you. In the twilight of the Moon, the people around you are somewhat lost. Their behavior is inconsistent and they create confusion and uncertainty. It’s probably best if you steer clear of them and get on with your own work.

(March 21 - April 19) The people closest to you are stubborn now and you’re tempted to just leave them alone and let them sort out their own problems and contradictions. In fact, those are precisely what the cards are suggesting. Put a little distance between them and you, and try to convince them that it is not always the one who shouts loudest who is right! At work, you’re trying to strengthen your authority and establish your reputation. The influence of the cards and readings is allowing you to use your creative instincts in the cause of efficiency, so although your imagination is bubbling with ideas, you won’t lose sight of your goals. This means you’ll be able to build your career on solid foundations, which will provide you with the best possible conditions in which to make new plans.

(April 20 - May 20) In September, you will find that your serious side is assaulted by your imagination. While cards put you in a calm and rational frame of mind, the Wheel of Fortune is playing havoc with your emotions. Managing this ambiguity is not going to be easy, and might put you on the edge. You’re asking for stability, and you’re offered nothing but vagaries and
