LEARNING THE ART OF MAKEUP

A 4-day course was held by James Mac Inerney in collaboration with ABAM at the Aliya Baig Academy of Makeup for their Master Program students. This is not just to highlight the collaboration between James and the Academy (ABAM) but to highlight the opportunity to learn the latest trends of makeup at International standards specially brought down to India by ABAM, making such courses available right here in India. More such courses will be held in the year which makeup enthusiasts can look forward to. The Academy a year and a half ago also tied up with the London School of Makeup to bring IMA (International Makeup Association), an international certification, down to India. To be able to qualify for this certification a Makeup School has to be absolutely top notch and to be one of the 18 schools globally to be selected by IMA- and only 3 of which are in the whole of Asia.

Athiya shetty and KL Rahul

Athiya Shetty, daughter of legendary Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty, married cricketer KL Rahul on 23 January 2023 at her father's enormous Khandala mansion, Jahaan. The pair began their wedding celebrations with haldi and mehndi, followed by a lavish cocktail reception. Videos and photos from the scene revealed a brilliantly lit-up mansion with party tunes ranging from "Besharam Rang" to "Dil Mein Baji Guitar'' playing.

The couple had an intimate marriage with only 70 people. The bride's choice of attire was a soft pink Anamika Khanna chikankari lehenga in silk with zardosiand jaali embroidery.

The delicate dress, described as "a labour of love" by the designer, perfectly matched the actress's modest, beautiful aesthetic. It also includes a silk organza veil and dupatta with beautiful craftsmanship. KL Rahul matched her with an embroidered ivory sherwani by the designer, dressed with an Amrapali Diamonds multi-layered polki diamond and multi-layered emerald necklace. She chose blush pink makeup, nude pink lips, and kohl-lined eyelids. A hefty choker necklace, mang tika, earrings, bangles, and a centre-parted bun completed the look. Athiya looked ethereal in her bridal lehenga and the perfect setting of the hill station only complemented her look. Pictures from the happy couple’s celebration are enough to let us know the wedding was filled with fun, love and grandeur. We wish the happy couple a great married life!

Beach weddings are a quite certain way to fulfil your fairytale dreams, and fashion blogger Niki Mehra provided us plenty of reasons to agree. Niki Mehra and Sid Madan's wedding in April 2022 was a gorgeous destination wedding in Goa, complete with a bright cocktail night and a fun-filled haldi. The influencer made a point of donning bright colours, from her orange peplum-lehenga sagan look by Pakistani designer Mohsin Naveed Ranjha to her hot pink Sabyasachi lehenga with heavy jewellery for her tropical-themed mehendi. In contrast to Niki's dress, Sid opted for a blue flowery bandhgala for the sagan and matched his bride in a beautiful peach Sabya outfit for the mehendi.

For the cocktail, the bride chose a stunning gold lehenga inspired by the Bollywood Desi Girl, by Dabiri Couture, along with sleek diamond jewellery. Sid, in contrast, was dressed to the nines in a smart black embroidered suit by Gaurav Gupta. Niki wore a pastel pink Rimple & Harpreet lehenga to her wedding. She accessorised with a custom-made veil from the House of Kotwara and traditional Raniwala 1881 gems. Niki's sea-shell kaleeras by Ra'Abta by Rahul were another aspect that elevated her outfit. Sid, as a result, matched his bride in a lovely embroidered pink sherwani. Not leaving any fashion stones unturned, Niki and Sid greeted their visitors with a white-hued beach sundowner; Niki appeared to be right out of a modern fairytale, her white henna provided an Indian touch. To say the least, the couple’s wedding was nothing short of a dream destination wedding and we wish the couple best wishes for more grand adventures!

Kunal Rawal and Arpita Mehta

The wedding of fashion designers Kunal Rawal and Arpita Mehta was the talk of the town last year. The couple tied the knot o n August 28, 2022, the ceremony was held at the Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai. The bride and groom channelled the best of their designer selves by donning customisations of their respective labels for the big day, making the ceremony a delightful, star-studded affair. Their wedding was a lovely, dreamy celebration with a black and white sangeet, mehendi and haldi; while we were all thinking that the ceremony must have taken the couple months to plan, they pulled it off in just a month.

Kunal Rawal wore an ivory three-piece sherwani with a mix of his signature french knot and fibre embroidery for tonal texture, paired with an ivory kurta shirt and vanilla slim breech pants for the big day. He completed his look with a colour block stole in champagne, beige, and cream, as well as a complementary saafa. Not to mention the cream double monk creepers and Birdhichand Gandhi Jewels for creating the first ever Art deco Bombay Polki hexagon buttons that adorned the intimate wedding sherwani.

The wedding day dress code was cream and gold and Mehta wanted to make an outfit she'd never made before while still incorporating her signature mirror work. The finished product was a gold cutdana mirror work lehenga with cream thread work inspired by Rajasthani architecture, specifically the Sheesh Mahal. Her designer husband's signature embroidery style, French knots, was used to embellish the gown, which had 18,700 mirrors. Mehta completed her look with three dupattas and a four-metre-long tulle veil adorned with 3D mirror work flowers. She chose a layered polki and emerald necklace with matching earrings and maang tikka by Falguni Mehta, kadas by Vipul Agarwal, and light pink chuddas for her jewellery. We loved how the couple coordinated their unconventional wedding attire and we wish them immense happiness and success!

BURA NA MANO HOLI HAI! BURA NA MANO HOLI HAI! BURA NA MANO HOLI HAI!

Congratulations! You have arrived at the one stop destination for your festive guide. Scroll through to find great holi parties, skin care, trendy fashion inspos and recipes.

Holi has a variety of synonyms, the festival of love/colours/joy.

But do we know why it is celebrated?

It celebrates God Radha Krishna's love. The day also commemorates the victory of the Hindu deity Vishnu as Narasimha Narayana over Hiranyakashipu, symbolising the triumph of good over evil.

Holi is a festival that is enjoyed immensely both globally and in India. One that most people especially me wait for. The smearing of vibrant colours with splashes of tinted water is a joy like no other. What is Holi without some naach-gaana, the (in)famous thandai, gujias pichkaris, uniting with our loved ones along with water balloons and eggs. (ouch!) This celebration is something I dearly missed during the pandemic since seeing friends and family look like a rainbow is unmatched. This Holi let’s try to be mindful of people's boundaries as well as the usage of organic colour along with optimum use of water.

Bored of celebrating in your backyards and apartment complexes? It's time for a rager because that’s what Holi parties have become with Dhol-Dj-Dance and have a splash no wait blast this holi.

Your skin which is the largest organ of our body (thank me for that science fact!) is the one that is most exposed during a festival like Holi. It is necessary to prep that skin before playing so that well you don’t like a tomato the next day.

Lasya Chittella (@lasya_chittella) provides us with a great skincare routine that will assist you on this festive day!

Holi skincare is important, sharing with you a few tips to save your skin

Hydrate - Hydrate your skin & body externally and internally. Make sure you use a good hydrating cream & also stay hydrated

Protect - Make sure you use good hydrating, non-sticky oil all over body. Olive or Almond oil would be a great option

SPF over anything - Use a high protection sunscreen like SPF 50 PA+++ on your face and all over your body

We don’t want colours on nails, right? So, put on some oil on your nails.

Cover your lips with a good lip balm which contains SPF.

Avoid exfoliating your skin right before holi or after holi as your skin might be very sensitive to the colours.

Use a good oil to clean your skin post playing Holi like coconut oil to remove the traces of your oil.

As a devoted follower of fashion, I love experimenting with colours and costumes. I prefer vibrant looks defining style in all possible shades because colours are aesthetic by default. Holi is the festival of colours, a festival that celebrates the eternal and divine love of God Radha and Krishna. One can bond and retouch our roots in this festival of colours. The colours that we can associate with memories. Every year on Holi we plan to meet up with our friends and family. The symbolic cultural of Holi is to connect with all our loved ones, apply a little amount of colour and communicate that we are there together in this festival of joy and happiness just the way we are together in episodes of sorrow. This festival also brings with it the (in)famous Thandai and the Gujiyas that we love to cherish.

The festival of Colours is celebrated all over India since ancient times. I believe that the real demon today is poverty and hunger and as a part of our Holi Celebration we take initiatives to destroy social evils by distributing sweets, food, clothes to the under privileged class. This probably won’t obliterate the evil completely, but it bears the potential to create the ripples of change and evolution. As a result, it enables us to spread the colours of joy, happiness, and life into many lives.

GEET GUPTA

This colourful and jolly festival has been my favourite one since childhood and I can vouch for it that this hasn’t changed till now. We enjoy Holi with our friends and family. Holi is incomplete without some dance, peppy music and the traditional drink Thandai with a tad bit of bhang. It’s an enjoyment like no other.

MANJU AGGARWAL

Holi is one of my favourite festivals. Everything about this festival excites me. Gone are the days of toxic colours that harm one's skin, this year I am opting to play phoolon ki holi and with organic colours only so nobody has a reason not to be covered in colours. This year I am all set to celebrate it with pomp at Classic Garden!

VIBHUTI JAIN

Let this Holi be all about bringing colours in the lives of the less fortunate! Every year, me and my friends celebrate the festival with underprivileged girls and experience a sense of satisfaction by bringing smiles on their faces. We will also take some gifts and sweets on this occasion for the children, I strongly feel that Holi is the right occasion to welcome spring along with your loved ones by smearing colours, and dancing to great tunes. My friends from other cities are also joining us this time and that makes it more special.

Holi is the “festival of love” celebrating the eternal love between God Radha and Krishna. The celebration starts by lighting the bonfire one day before the day of Holi also known as Holika Dahan. This signifies the triumph of good over evil. We all sprinkle and throw colours (Abeer) on friends and families. The vibrancy of these colours truly brings in a lot of positivity in our lives. It is a joyous spirit of celebrating together with your loved ones that makes Holi a globally loved festival.

A SIMLAI

Colours of happiness are the best colours in life and may they stay with us forever. The significance of any festival is as much in its planning as it is in celebrating! Let me share with you my guide to a successful Holi bash: A theme for this year could be “Bollywood”. No surprises there since there are so many Bollywood movie looks, we can recreate. Another important todo is get my Holi Music Playlist ready. A live singer, a karaoke station, or dhol are amazing additions. Holi deserves thumping dance numbers to keep everyone on their feet. White is the default colour code for Holi. I plan to tell my guests to accent their whites with the most colourful bursts that they have. Samosas, biriyanis, barfis, gulab jamuns – cook up all the traditional Indian delicacies that my guests would love. Thandai is a crowd favourite so lets go ahead and prepare loads of it. But remember to save water and use eco-friendly Holi Colours! I plan to add freshness with fresh flowers and plants across my house. Last but not the least, I shall try n go the extra mile and opt for biodegradable plates and spoons for the big group of guests.

What does International Women’s Day mean to you? How does the IWD Theme 2023, “#EmbraceEquity” resonate with you?

Every year at this time, I get to celebrate the feminine power, embrace and acknowledge the women in my life, and honour all the peaceful warriors out there "#EmbraceEquity" and "#EmbraceDiversity" :)

How did the idea for your business come about? "I always wanted to spread the joy of eating clean, delicious, and healthy food. I taught food and nutrition classes abroad. Having lived away from India for over two decades, I didn't realise that we are consuming more and more processed foods like in the West and following all kinds of fad diets, eating lots of meat, consuming too much dairy, leading to a lot of suffering due to lifestyle-related chronic illnesses. So during my brief visits to Hyderabad, I decided to give classes here. Then, before I knew it, I was spending more and more time here each year. One thing led to another, and I decided to fill the gap and help people eat more produce, so I opened up Vibrant Living a vegan kitchen over a decade ago, at a time when the term 'vegan' was barely used and understood. For that reason, I didn't call it a vegan kitchen, but simply described it as offering deliciously healthy food."

What does International Women’s Day mean to you? How does the IWD Theme 2023, “#EmbraceEquity” resonate with you?

As a woman entrepreneur, International Women's Day does have a deep and significant meaning It is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women in all fields, and recognise the progress made towards gender equality. The theme for International Women's Day 2023, "#EmbraceEquity," is especially relevant for women entrepreneurs in the creative industry. It calls for embracing equal opportunities, fairness, and justice for all, regardless of gender. This resonates with many women entrepreneurs including me who may have experienced gender-based discrimination in the workplace or faced challenges in accessing funding and resources etc.

The theme of "#EmbraceEquity" for 2023 provides a powerful message of hope, progress, and solidarity, inspiring women entrepreneurs to continue breaking down barriers and achieving their goals

How did the idea for your business come about?

We come from a middle class family based out of Huzurabad, Karimnagar Telangana. Our aspirations are always very high.

Though with middle class incomes our father never backed down for education for both myself and my siblings Before studying design in pearl academy, Mumbai, I and My sibling Sahith tried to start an idea of “Linkedin for Designers”. Sahith also wanted to start from his graduation, he was entrepreneurship cell head both in his graduation and MBA (FMS Delhi).

Our passion towards building business only grew I started styling clients, celebrities etc With the confidence in industry and Sahith’s expertise in business and product, we got the idea of Hilo Design, which can disrupt the industry.

What was your key driving force to become an entrepreneur and who has been your greatest inspiration? The desire to create something new, to express my creativity, and to have the freedom to work on projects that I am very passionate about. As for inspiration, there are many from multiple fields, but to mention one it is Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw. and i have been meeting many women who have been very inspiring, in my day to day life

What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?

First most important thing I would say is Resilience and perseverance - Entrepreneurship is often a challenging and unpredictable journey, and setbacks and failures, ups & downs are common. Successful entrepreneurs should have the ability to bounce back from failures, learn from their mistakes, and stay motivated even in the face of obstacles

Strong communication - Entrepreneurs need to be able to effectively communicate their vision and ideas to others, whether it's to their team, investors, or customers. They also need to be able to build and maintain relationships, and be able to negotiate and persuade effectively and should be creative & innovative

Other important skills for strategic thinking, adaptability, financial management, risk-taking, and leadership

SPECIAL I MARCH,2023 35 TULIP

Have you faced any barriers in your career due to being a woman? If so, how did you overcome them? How has being an entrepreneur affected your family life?

I have two elder brothers, in my family my father, now my husband as well, all of these men in my life whom I am really grateful for, have been very supportive through my career as well as during my studies. so I have not personally faced any barriers due to being a woman. I have co-founded my business along with one of my brothers, so it's been very good However, it is important to acknowledge that many women have faced significant barriers and discrimination in their careers, and have had to overcome significant challenges to achieve success

Some of fellow women shared about what they face in the workplace including gender-based discrimination, unequal pay, lack of access to leadership roles, and a lack of support for worklife balance. Overcoming these barriers often requires a combination of individual effort and collective action

Ultimately, the key to overcoming barriers and achieving success as a woman working anywhere and everywhere is to remain determined, resilient, and focusing on goals, while seeking out support and resources along the way.

Why do we need more women in leadership? How can we encourage more women to pursue entrepreneurship or senior leadership roles in their career?

It also helps to break down gender-based stereotypes and biases. When women are represented in leadership roles, it helps to challenge the perception that leadership is a maledominated field, and can inspire other women to pursue leadership positions. diversity in leadership leads to better decision-making and better outcomes for organisations When there is greater gender diversity in leadership, different perspectives and experiences are represented, which can lead to more creative and innovative solutions to problems

What is the most important message you want to send out to young women thinking about their careers?

First and foremost, I want to encourage women to follow their passions and pursue careers that they find fulfilling and meaningful, for that you might have to explore different career paths, take risks, and be open to new experiences.

They should not let gender-based stereotypes or biases hold them back from pursuing their goals, and should believe & feel confident in their ability to succeed.

At the same time, I want to encourage women to seek out support and mentorship from others and also to seek out guidance and advice from other experienced women in their field, to build a strong professional network

REKHA LAHOTI

Modern and Contemporary Indian art Curator and founder of Kalakriti Art Gallery

What does International Women’s Day mean to you? How does the IWD Theme 2023, “#EmbraceEquity” resonate with you?

International Women's Day is something that started during liberation in the USA and now everybody celebrates it all over the world, but in today’s scenario I would say we are celebrating each day. But to generate the awareness around everyone and especially the masses where it should be hitting them that, gender equality is very important. Earlier it was essential but now I think it’s losing its steam. It’s not non-existent and now organisations have taken account of importance as well and the mindset of people has changed. I just think we should celebrate each day.

In France if you see today, the gender parity is so high, it is almost about 49% and in India it's around 33% but even

then it’s not as worse as before. Now we can see so many CEOs in every field. For example in my area, in 1990 there were 5% women who owned art galleries or dealt with art Now in 2023, we will have almost 96% women art gallery owners and that’s the difference only in the art field. As far as the theme, Embrace Equity is concerned, equity is individuality to each person when you treat someone specially, whereas equality is for everyone

So, I don’t think today’s women need any special treatment, they are very much attuned especially in the last few years with the pandemic, women entrepreneurs have really shown resilience. Although, that being said, basic requirements like lavarities and sanitary needs in an organisation should be taken care of.

How did the idea for your business come about?

My husband is an art lover and an art collector; and he’s been collecting art over the years. In 2002, we started the Kalakriti Art Gallery. He’s still an art collector but I majorly look into the art gallery and its administration We are passionate about art and wherever we go, Europe or America or for that matter anywhere in the world, we always visit the art museums and a re else.

What was your key driving force to become an entrepreneur and who has been your greatest inspiration?

My father and my father-in-law have been my greatest source of inspiration. Unfortunately, they aren’t here anymore but whatever they have taught and advised me will always be imbibed in me.

What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?

The first and the foremost is that you have to believe in yourself and in what you’re doing It is important to not get influenced by what others say about your work or profession. Secondly, in today’s world one has to be politically right. One should know where to say and what to say is very important If one learns to do this, it’s bound to definitely help them in the long run Lastly, one should be focused and driven in whatever they want to do in any field. With India, beaming with opportunities you’re bound to excel

Have you faced any barriers in your career due to being a woman? If so, how did you overcome them?

I am also associated with the ‘Thick Flo’ organisation in 2015 I was heading the team In these organisations, earlier in the day, I was the only person in the boardroom among all other men. I believe what you have to talk about and offer is more important than your gender. So, you just have to stand your ground and believe in what you say and just go ahead

How has being an entrepreneur affected your family life?

Home and work balance is never going to be easy for everyone It’s always a thought in progress but I do try to balance both of them. According to me, timings are very important. One should know where to shut off from work and come home to spend time with family, be there in times of sickness and help when required. That is very important So, I think planning a routine and managing timings play a major role I always like having my organiser in order and that helps me balance my work and home life.

Why do we need more women in leadership? How can we encourage more women to pursue entrepreneurship or senior leadership roles in their career?

Any leadership role led by a woman is beneficial, because women are more empathetic Not that men aren’t but women have a better understanding with their work and home balance, she understands others problems and the solution comes naturally to her. Since men don’t have to balance work and home life like a woman has to, I think they are more sensitive to understanding people So, I think a woman leader understands the nuances of an employee's problems irrespective of their gender in a better way, which helps her form good relations among organisations.

What is the most important message you want to send out to young women thinking about their careers?

As mentioned earlier, irrespective of your gender and status one has to believe in themselves. Carry out their SWOT analysis, understand their problems and find your solutions then one can achieve anything For example, you can start a business by selling just two t-shirts with premium quality and time management; you are bound to succeed especially in today’s world where opportunities are endless

What does International Women’s Day mean to you? How does the IWD Theme 2023, EmbraceEquity resonate with you?

It's a platform given by the world to women to feel special. To me it's a celebration of how far women have come. Women at one time were not heard, women were objects besides equals, women were downgraded Now women are enterprising, more strong, more confident, more successful, and women are making more money than men. They are respected now It’s a day to celebrate how far we came A nation needs to value every gender equally to progress at the right place. A society attains better development in all aspects when both genders are entitled to similar opportunities. Equal rights in decision making, health, politics, infrastructure, profession, etc will surely advance our society to a new level

How did the idea for your business come about?

As rightly said, choose a job you love and are passionate about and you will never have to work a day in your life. I started practising yoga after my two children and it was a transformative experience for me. I became extremely Passionate about sharing the true essence of yoga with others too This is how Rinahindochayoga was born to help people discover their potential and love for their bodies. Our ultimate objective is to play a key role in the wellness industry for the benefit of humankind.

What was your key driving force to become an entrepreneur and who has been your greatest inspiration?

My husband, Tejas, has been the driving force behind my success and rise to whatever level I am now He had a huge role to play in ensuring that I was financially independent. I would say Myself! I started my career after two children. I met yoga in my early 20s in a very busy period of my life, after a very long period of physical inactivity. Yoga added so much to my life, physically, mentally, emotionally. And when you feel better you can give, help and relate to others better. Since then, a never ending yoga journey has begun.

What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?

An ability to continuously learn is not just a key entrepreneurial skill, but also a very valuable life skill. Creativity is Queen

Find your niche and build your network

Have you faced any barriers in your career due to being a woman? If so, how did you overcome them? I would say as a mother I had my share of challenges. Being a parent definitely brings incredible joy and is one of the most rewarding jobs in the world, but it’s also very exhausting. It's never easy being a mom trying to juggle a job/career with a family life For me the key is to find the right balance between profession and parenthood. I maintain a daily planner and a to-do list, which directs my day. Not only does it give me perspective on the tasks, but it also enables me to anticipate the amount of time and effort that will be required. I plan my schedule especially around the children’s school calendar; their holidays, exams, open days, PTA meetings. Once I mark these out in advance, I plan my schedule accordingly

How has being an entrepreneur affected your family life?

I have been very lucky in the context of my family life I spend a lot of time working from home, am happier and can take time off during the day. We get long extended family holidays (although I tend to work a bit on them) I eat every evening with my kids (2 of them), put them to bed every night, spend time with my husband and don't compromise family activities by taking time off on weekends. Most of all I am pretty happy, fulfilled by what I do - which really helps with family life.

Why do we need more women in leadership? How can we encourage more women to pursue entrepreneurship or senior leadership roles in their career?

Women are able to make bold and wise decisions as leaders; this helps make the team environment less authoritative and more cooperative. When women become leaders, they provide a different set of skills and imaginative perspectives. More importantly, female leaders bring structural and cultural differences to the table, which drive effective solutions

In a country like India, more and more women are coming out of the comfort of their homes and stepping into male-dominated professions Women leaders of today will make a huge impact in motivating them and creating a level playing field.

We can encourage women to pursue entrepreneurship by Providing business skills training as a basic step toward empowering women entrepreneurs, raising awareness about Women’s Entrepreneurship and acknowledging the importance of women entrepreneurs, and improving access to finance for women entrepreneurs.

What is the most important message you want to send out to young women thinking about their careers? Entrepreneurship is one profession where things can never get monotonous There is always some sort of new channel popping up. As the famous saying states “the real lies in the journey not the destination” Entrepreneurship is that journey where it will never have a last destination. It's only gonna go on. And thus the passion sustains to grow higher and bigger To sum it up - No monotony and relentless passion. These were the two things that brought me into this profession and I am never leaving this zest It is addictive and I love it!

BUNTY BAJAJ

Entrepreneur, Jewelry Designer, Director & Creative Head - Krsala jewellery

What does International Women’s Day mean to you? How does the IWD Theme 2023, “#EmbraceEquity” resonate with you?

I think International Women’s Day is a substantially important concept. The human species has been heavily patriarchal for centuries if not millennia. It’s taken a lot of sacrifice on the part of multiple prominent women and countless anonymous women, for us to finally live in a society that’s moving towards equality. This day, to me at least, is more a celebration of those women and their sacrifices. That’s why I think it has a much deeper relevance as a day than what society perceives it as. “ Embrace Equity” for me is a very important message to spread. It’s essential for women across the board, to realise that they have an equal equity holding in society as men, and it’s important for the men to acknowledge women as equal equity holders. Embracing equity gives people a sense of belonging and with the sense and acknowledgement of belonging, comes respect and the will to work towards change, such as breaking gender stereotypes and building a truly inclusive society

How did the idea for your business come about?

I’ve always been drawn towards anything creative from a very young age. My formal education is also in the fine arts, so I guess my love for creativity is inherent. My father was an avid antique collector and my childhood memories are ripe with fond memories of this world that he subconsciously engulfed me in This pretty much sparked my love affair with jewellery, which forms the genesis of Krsala. I saw an opportunity to build a business by doing what I love and I pursued the opportunity. There is nothing better than being able to make your passion your profession Krsala is exactly that for me

What was your key driving force to become an entrepreneur and who has been your greatest inspiration? When I started to work this concept of ‘entrepreneurship’ didn’t really exist There were business families and all people, who were a part of those families, knew how to do business. I came from a business family and my father was someone who’d be considered extremely ‘entrepreneurial’ in today’s day and age, so I guess it’s a trait that’s embedded in my DNA. I’ve always had the hunger to do something significant with my life. I actually started my first business when I was just 22 years old and did multiple different businesses along the way, till I finally launched Krsala 16-17 years ago A key driving force for me entrepreneurial is the sense of achievement that comes along with you. Knowing that you’re capable of seeing through the toughest of challenges, building something from the ground up, and making it then thrive, comes with a sense of satisfaction like no other I think it feeds into our most primal survival instincts.

Have you faced any barriers in your career due to being a woman? If so, how did you overcome them? I’ve actually worked in industries that have been heavily male dominated, especially back in the day, but I’ve been fortunate enough to not face any discrimination. I also never viewed myself as being lesser than any man, so I guess when you consider yourself an equal, that shows to the world and people are a bit more wary to be a certain way with you. I know discrimination happens and I’ve heard several first hand stories myself, but I’ve been fortunate enough to not be subjected to it myself.

SPECIAL I MARCH,2023 41 TULIP

What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?

There are a lot of people who talk about smart work and such concepts today, which I don’t fully agree with Call me old-schooled if you must, but I think there is no substitute for hard work. Without the willingness to work as hard as your business requires you to, you cannot achieve anything. Persistence is another very important skill to possess Entrepreneurship is not easy by any measure Every entrepreneur is faced with a plethora of challenges and failures. You have to have the resilience to persist. You’ll have to think on your toes, you’ll have to adapt, but quitting shouldn’t be an option for you ever

Another very important skill is financial prowess. I’m not fond of the term entrepreneurship or entrepreneur. I prefer terming it a business person, because that’s essentially what you’re building, a business. A business runs on the simple concept of profit and loss predominantly To ensure building a sustainable business, it’s very important to be financially adept. I urge all youngsters to build their financial knowledge, even if they don’t have a natural knack for it. Build your business with integrity and ethically, but while doing so also be mindful that you build a business with a healthy bottom line

How has being an entrepreneur affected your family life?

I’ve been an entrepreneur from pretty much the moment I started my own family. It’s the only way of life my family has been exposed to and I think it’s had a very positive impact on my family My children grew up viewing their mother and father as equals in all forms and manner. They had a deeper respect for women and their roles in society I was very conscious about making sure I give enough time and importance to bringing up my children as I did my business. I think you’ll have to ask them about what they think about having an entrepreneurial mother, but according to me it has had a very positive impact on my family.

Why do we need more women in leadership? How can we encourage more women to pursue entrepreneurship or senior leadership roles in their career?

I think we are far more suited to the current entrepreneurial landscape than men are. The work place environment has drastically changed. Women possess traits that are apt for such environments. Women are more empathetic, we are more conscious about the external factors not getting impacted because of profitability, women are more financially cautious. More women leaders would lead to a more inclusive business environment that would build out a socially conscious, happy and profitable corporate world. I think the women of today are more driven than they have ever been before They already possess the hunger required and are pursuing their dreams vehemently. I don’t think they require any form of persuasion. Us, as their parents and the men of the society need to welcome their ambition with open arms and build a more inclusive society that allows both men and women to flourish in equal measure Opportunities have to be gender agnostic.

What is the most important message you want to send out to young women thinking about their careers?

I think the most important message I can give the women of today is to truly consider themselves as being equal to men. Regardless of what they’ve seen or heard at home. Regardless of whether they’ve been discriminated against. It’s important for every cell in her body to believe that she is equal and as capable. Once this happens, no obstacle will be big enough to stop her from succeeding. I would also urge women to truly work towards building an equal society, where men and women are truly equal. I hear a lot of feminist theories that I don’t fully agree with, those notions don’t seem to be conveyed with the intent of truly building an equal world. Our aim should be equality.

Why do we need more women in leadership? How can we encourage more women to pursue entrepreneurship or senior leadership roles in their career?

There are many reasons why we need more women in leadership positions. One of the most important is that diverse perspectives lead to better decision-making When women are included in leadership roles, they bring unique experiences, insights, and skills that help organisations thrive. Women also prioritise issues that affect other women, such as work-life balance, pay equity, and family-friendly policies. To encourage more women to pursue entrepreneurship or senior leadership roles, we need to provide resources and support, such as mentorship, networking, and leadership training. We also need more inclusive work environments that value diversity, equity, and inclusion. Role models who have achieved success can inspire and empower young women to overcome barriers and achieve their goals.

What is the most important message you want to send out to young women thinking about their careers?

For young women thinking about their careers, I think it is important to be confident and pursue passion with determination and persistence. You should recognize your strengths, seek out mentorship and guidance in your respective fields It is also important for young women to be aware of the gender biases and systemic barriers that may exist in their chosen fields, and to advocate for themselves and other women to create more inclusive and equitable workplaces. Ultimately, staying true to yourself, working hard, and pushing towards your goals with the right support and resources is going to lead to a meaningful impact in your careers.

How did the idea for your business come about?

As a part of two businesses known for quality service delivery, We constantly faced the challenge of finding good quality content creators. However, I believed I had an eye for well-curated content and recognized the gap in the market. Furthermore, the future of content creation looks promising, with technology advancements and increased accessibility to digital platforms making content creation more vital than ever for any business or service. Long-form written content, such as articles and blog posts, is becoming more popular for providing in-depth information and analysis. Audio content, like podcasts and audiobooks, allows for easy consumption while on-the-go, and video content, particularly short-form videos on platforms like Instagram Reels, dominates social media for its quick and digestible format. Overall, content creation fills the gap by providing information, entertainment, education, and inspiration to global audiences. As technology continues to evolve, the possibilities for content creation are endless, and we can expect even more exciting developments in the future. With these thoughts in mind, Kontent Tribe Pvt Ltd was conceptualized.

Have you faced barriers in our career due to being a woman ? If so, how did you overcome them?

Gender bias and discrimination: Women often face bias and discrimination in the workplace, including stereotypes about their abilities, pay inequity, and exclusion from opportunities for advancement. Strategies for overcoming these barriers include advocating for equal pay and promotion opportunities, seeking out mentors and sponsors who can support your career growth, and calling out bias and discrimination when you encounter it. Work-life balance: Balancing work and family responsibilities can be particularly challenging for women, who are often expected to take on the bulk of caregiving responsibilities. Strategies for overcoming this barrier include seeking out flexible work arrangements, prioritising self-care, and advocating for policies that support work-life balance, such as paid parental leave and affordable child care. Lack of representation in leadership positions: Women are often underrepresented in leadership roles, which can limit their opportunities for advancement and influence. Strategies for overcoming this barrier include seeking out leadership development programs and opportunities, building a strong network of peers and mentors, and advocating for policies that support diversity and inclusion Limited access to capital: Women entrepreneurs may face barriers to accessing the capital they need to start and grow their businesses, due to bias and discrimination in the financing industry. Strategies for overcoming this barrier include seeking out alternative sources of funding, such as crowdfunding or community-based lending programs, and advocating for policies that support women-owned businesses

Overcoming these barriers required a combination of individual action and systemic changes at regular intervals. Advocating for new processes and policies, building strong networks, seeking out regular opportunities for growth and development is what helped me set a benchmark for my company KONTENT

COVER STORY I
MARCH,2023 TULIP

You've worked in Tollywood and Kannada industry. What is the difference you find in them?

So there's not really much of a difference between Telugu and Kannada, except for the language. Because I really feel everything is just the same It is always different with the different teams. So I don't really consider it as, you know, an industry as a whole different thing, but it's just the languages that is no dominantly that is, you know, for me as a difference if you ask me, but otherwise everything else is the same. Otherwise, the the kind of films made is quite different. There are more commercial films that's made in Telugu industry But right now, I think it according to the trend that is, you know, prevailing in the, the Indian market. Currently, I think, depending on that all the industries are working really well. So I don't really see much of a difference between the Kannada and the Telugu industry

How did you start your career?

No, I just landed up here, you know, without any expectations, I just started off my career. Just as an experience, I was just 19 years old when the first film was offered to me. So I started off very early, but I never had plans of becoming an actor in my very early stage of my career, but eventually when I started, you know, liking the work here and liking myself on screen and I felt okay, I was confident enough and everything so and just followed by the opportunities after that I just started off, so acting was never part of my plans.

What is the turning point in your career?

So I started off with a new comer in the, in my first film in Kannada, and they later on with good known actors and good known directors and production houses. So they will, there was always like time when they used to recognize me with my co actors name, or, you know, they would tell Oh, you've done a film with this director, this actor and, or maybe a song name or by a film name So people actually didn't know my name in the very beginning, but then there was a film called Rambo two, which released in 2018. Sharan was the co-actor for that. So in that that film was 100 days blockbuster film. So that film, I can say that it was a turning point, because after that film, people got to know who is Ashika Ranganath So basically, that is when people started recognizing me with my name. So I would, I think that is the turning point. I can just think of now, but many more turning points to come.

Apart from career, what are the major activities do you usually engage with?

So I'm a more of a very private person. So I spend a lot of quality time with my friends and family if I'm not shooting. So a lot of going out with friends, family dinners, lunch, traveling. And dancing is my you know, hobby. I'm very passionate about dancing. So few dance sessions and workouts, I'm a fitness freak, too. So a lot of workouts, and maintaining my diet, nutrition, all this goes on So yeah, apart from acting, this is pretty much firstborn.

What does International Women's Day mean to you? How does it embrace it?

Um, so I think it's, we have to celebrate women every day. But there's, there's just one day a whole world come together and celebrate women. So it is that one day to celebrate women and embrace you equity is something that, you know, all these while women have been fighting for equality, and, you know, justice and freedom and everything. So I think with the equity, the process of equity, we can definitely achieve equality. So ultimately, equality is what the society needs in general is what I feel so invest equal equity is something that will pave the way for equality So I'm, I mean, everybody, every women will look forward for it

COVER STORY I MARCH,2023 49 TULIP

What are some projects that you're currently working on?

So I have been working on two Kannada films right now called O2 under PRK productions It's a medical thriller, where I play a doctor in it, and another which is ready for release. And another film, fantasy film, Gathavaibhava directed by simple Suni that currently we are shooting and also there's a Tamil film that I'm working on my second Tamil film with Siddarath . So that is a love story. Some pretty much excited for that project as well. And in Telugu, I'm listening to a couple of scripts So very soon, I will be signing few.

When have you faced any barriers in your kid due to being a woman? If so, how did you overcome them? So, there are a lot of male protagonist films being made the characters, you know, being portrayed in such a way that you know, you. You you see them in in such a way you worship them and everything but There are a few less female characters made in such a way probably you can only when a women centric film is made or some social cause some serious films that is only then a women oriented or a female protagonist characters are put out why not a commercial film being made for a heroine and why is it not called just a film rather than not tagged as female oriented. So that is always been there in my head, which I feel is changing a little bit But there's a long, long way to go. So I've, I've it's not a barrier as such, but I've always felt as that thing you know, that we, we have to overcome So then few characters and maybe narrative to me, and there's a more space to the heroes and not to the heroes, I've always felt why not? Other than that, obviously, being a newcomer, in the beginning was quite a difficult time to make my own way and get into the mainstream. But I think that is that is part of every carrier part of every work for everybody. So not that much of a barrier is as such

Tell us about the funniest rumor you've heard about yourself.

Okay. Funniest rumor? Funny, I don't think so. I could just say a rumor that I yeah, for the I think the funniest rumor was that for my info there was this Valentine's Day or something. And people somebody wrote that she's getting married. So that was I felt that was really funny. There was no marriage cards at all. And people just wrote that, you know, I'm getting married or something And I was very funny

COVER STORY I 50 MARCH,2023 TULIP

What would you like to tell people who are romantically interested in you?

Wow, sweet. I'm a very romantic person. I know I especially movies or even people who are very romantic these couples and all of them I see them I'll be like, oh so sweet and everything so I would be like so happy that people are showing so much if romantic interest in me I'll be just just so overwhelmed and happy and obviously I can just be with one person not everybody's so I will just be very happy about it. And yeah, thanks to all the people to show so much love especially Telugu audience have been like so lovely and warm. welcoming me in the Telugu industry. Abbo ammai entha cute ga undi through all these memes stories and how entha cute ga Telugu Matladatharu, all these things. The way they you know, making like papa is very cute, very bubbly, all of that, that makes me feel really, really sweet And thanks to all of them

Who is the most? What is the most important message you want to send out to young women thinking about taking up acting as a career?

I think I feel like you shouldn't plan anything as such in the industry. Whatever comes in your way, whatever you get in your way, just go with the flow. If things are not happening in your way, just don't waste your time Just go on doing something that works well for you So industry is something that you know, everybody wants to take up acting as their carrier and want to succeed and everything. But there's some there's also something called luck factor at the same time, a lot of dedication, hard work is very important So it should be especially as young women you should be ready to take up all the challenges that's coming your way in the in the industry and you should be very strong and confident with whatever you do. So just be confident, strong and have a big smile on your face.

A Walk Through the Wildlife! A Walk Through the Wildlife! Visit to the Nehru Zoological Park! Visit to the Nehru Zoological Park!

"The real wealth of the Nation lies in the resources of the earth - soil, water, forests, minerals, and wildlife."

The peacock's dance, a bear's smile, a bird’s chirping one could not imagine their lives without wildlife Our ecology relies on the delicate balance of all living creatures. In accordance with this notion, March 3 is observed worldwide as World Wildlife Day, an opportunity to celebrate the various beautiful and diverse forms of fauna and flora, as well as to spread awareness of the numerous benefits that their conservation provides to people.

Hyderabad, the winner of ‘World Green City Award 2022’, the world's second best city to live in and one of India's most beautiful cities, is known for its princely culture, architectural brilliance, imposing corporate urban landscape, and, most notably, its delicious food. The city is one of India's most vibrant tourist destinations, with some truly exciting attractions, including the renowned Nehru Zoological Park

Nehru Zoological Park is one of the most well-known tourist attractions in Hyderabad. It is also one of India's largest zoos The park is managed by the Telangana government's forest department and the wonderful place covers an area of 380 acres and is home to over 140 species of birds, mammals, and reptiles. The park was recognized in 1959 and was opened to the public in 1963. The park's unique feature is that all of the species have been kept in their zoological order

FEATURE I 52 MARCH,2023 TULIP

Every day, the zoo offers different safari trips, such as the Lion Safari, Tiger Safari, Bear Safari, and Butterfly Safari Other attractions include elephant rides, a natural history museum, and a children's train; housing indigenous animals and birds such as the Indian Rhino, Asiatic Lion, Tiger, Panther, Gaur, Orangutan, Crocodile, Python, and many more. Several animals bred at the Zoo were rehabilitated and released into various Deer Parks and Sanctuaries to replenish the depleted natural population The zoological park is open from 9 am to 5 pm and is closed on all mondays. The park also offers a boating trip in Mir Alam lake.

Through a variety of exciting activities, the park not only provides a fun experience but also educates and raises awareness about wildlife. A trip to Jurassic Park, a visit to the butterfly park, and a tour of the aquarium are among them The park also has a museum where artefacts and evidence of ancient life are displayed

The richly diverse fauna of the park is yet another big attraction. The park is home to endangered and rare animal, bird, and aquatic life species Mir Alam Tank, located nearby, attracts migratory birds from all over the world. Endangered species are protected, bred, and rehabilitated at the park. Egrets, macaws, geese, parakeets, and lovebirds are among the bird species found at the Nehru Zoological Park. Not only that, but the park also discourages nocturnal species such as bats and owls

FEATURE I MARCH,2023 53 TULIP

The mammal species found in the park are wide - ranging, such as rhinoceroses, Indian elephants, wolves, hyenas, cheetahs, Asiatic lions, Bengal tigers and so on The list is extensive In addition, the park is home to reptiles such as crocodiles, snakes, lizards, tortoises, chameleons, and many others. Witnessing so many natural wonders in one place is an enthralling experience.

The ever developing zoo, which turned 60 last October, added three more attractions. These include Meerkat and Marmoset enclosures, as well as an open fish pond with various types of fish.

How to reach the park?

Easy! The Nehru Zoological Park is about 9 kilometres away from the Hyderabad bus station. To get to the park, take a TSRTC bus from any bus station close to you The intra city buses serve many locations throughout the city, including the park. It is the most cost-effective way to visit Nehru Zoological Park. From the bus station, you can also take a taxi or rickshaw. A taxi ride to the park takes about an hour.

When is the best time to visit the park?

Perfect picnic weather! The Nehru Zoological Park is best visited between January to March, and October to December

- Throughout the year, the park is awash in colours of joy but naturally beautiful during the spring season. Under the mellow heat of the sun and pleasant weather, you can make the most of your trip. PAWSITIVE PETS MAKE EVERYTHING BETTER: pet care

Dr. Jasleen Kaur, founder of Allvet Pet Clinic. Veterinary has been her passion ever since she was a kid. She has done her master's in Surgery and Radiology. Along with running her practice, she also manages an Instagram page jasleenspetcare, through which she helps pet parents with tips and suggestions on pet care.

How often should a pet be examined regularly?

It completely depends on the age of the pet. Older pets will need more regular checks than younger ones. But on average, we advise bi-annual visits to ensure everything is normal.

What is the best healthy dog food?

Home food is not the healthiest diet for pets. It is neither balanced nor complete as no matter how hard we try; we do skip out on some essential trace minerals and vitamins This is the main reason vets suggest commercial diets which have been formulated after years of research and trials. However, if the pet parents still prefer home food over a commercial diet, supplements should be added regularly to help reduce the gap between the supply and demand of the nutrients.

FEATURE I 56 MARCH,2023 TULIP

Which do you prefer: adopting a puppy or buying a new one?

As a vet, we see many people buying pets and then abandoning them. I am a strong believer in ADOPT DON'T SHOP. There are so many pets looking for loving homes Not just this, buying pets also give breeders more encouragement to continue misusing female dogs for indiscriminate breeding.

What advice would you give to a new pet parent?

To be consistent and not get overwhelmed and give u on the puppy. Puppies can be a handful and require constant attention just like babies. Also, it is important to do thorough research before getting a puppy. There are many things to be taken into consideration, like how big the pup will get, the space requirements, exercise requirements, the amount of time that can be dedicated to the puppy, monitory restrictions, etc. It is important to remembe a puppy is a long-term commitment

How should one care for a pet's hygiene?

Regular baths with pet shampoos (Never use any human products on pets without asking your vet), trimming their nails regularly, keeping their ears clean, and most importantly, brushing their teeth daily. Oral hygiene is something which is the most neglected yet most important in maintaining their hygiene and health. Other than this, it helps to wipe your pet's paws with pet wipes or paw cleansers after every walk

How frequently should a pet be walked?

The frequency or time per walk again varies from breed to breed Ideally, all dogs need to be walked 2-3 times a day to carry out their regular business. Other than this, the larger breeds like Labradors, German shepherds, Great Danes, etc. which need more exercise and depend on us for that, should be taken for proper long runs at least twice a day

What are your thoughts on the new pet cafes?

Honestly, it was about time the city became more inclusive of pets Considering how fast the pet population has increased in recent years, and the way pets have now become a part of the family, pet cafes were the need of the hour. They help pet parents in socializing with their pets and also take care of the separation anxiety most lockdown pets have due to being locked in with their parents for months My only concern with the pet cafes is ticks and fleas which can easily be managed with preventive measures.

What basic precautions should be taken?

It can be very easy to maintain pets if certain basic precautions and preventive measures are kept in mind. For dogs, basic steps like making sure they are on regular tick and flea prevention protocol, they are neutered on time, or female dogs are not taken out for walks when they are in heat, vaccinating them regularly, etc are enough to keep your pet safe and happy.

What is the significance of pet care?

Pet care is not just restricted to providing shelter and food to the pet, it goes way beyond that. Proper pet care can increase your pet's life from a few months to years. This includes proper diet and nutrition, good oral hygiene, and maintaining their body weight to prevent obesity. Regular vet checks can help pet parents catch certain health issues at an early stage which again helps the pet greatly.

FEATURE I MARCH,2023 57 TULIP

What are your thoughts on pet exercise?

Pet obesity is just as real as human obesity. And while there are loads of great obesity diets available on the market, there is no substitute for exercise. Diet can only help our pets (and us) to a certain extent. Exercise is important to not just maintain weight but also for proper mental stimulation. Some high-energy pets like huskies tend to get destructive if they're unable to burn that energy productively. Walking a dog for 15 mins while the dog sniffs everything on the way does not count as exercise It has to be a proper, undisturbed walk or preferably run. It is also important to exercise them on the right surface and at the right time. You cannot take your pet for a good long exercise session in the middle of the afternoon in peak summer

Exercise can be made a daily morning and evening routine and be used as a bonding time with the pet to ensure their and our own physical and mental health well-being

What is a typical day in the life of a veterinarian?

Most days are pretty regular with vaccine and general check cases, a surgery or two which are usually routine procedures, and a lot of diagnostics like blood tests, radiographs, and lab work We do tend to get an emergency a day on average and these are the cases that test our mental health the most. It gets difficult to see simple and easily manageable cases turn into emergencies when the signs are not recognized on time. Or having to give pet parents bad news about their pet's condition You can never get used to that side of the profession But it is also very fulfilling and satisfying when a per recovers and you get to deliver good news and discharge the pet.

Do you believe that pets can make people happier?

There have been numerous studies done that prove pets are good for mental health. Having a pet around has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. In fact, in many places pets are used as emotional support animals and are allowed to be taken with their parent wherever they go.

His charm, his cuteness, and especially his innocent puppy eyes took away all the sorrows of our lives. In a world full of conditions, he chose to remain unconditional for us. He has taught valuable life lessons through his small gestures. We never imagined that we would get so emotionally attached to him. He ensures that we are on our toes right from Sunrise to Sunset. We somehow started believing that a pet comes into your life to teach you a few valuable life lessons. My favorite Chocolate dessert is 'Chocolate Kunafa' at gourmet baklava located at banjara Hills. They are many other Middle Eastern sweet delicacies but 'Chocolate Kunafa' is the best from the aroma to the taste it is drool worthy. Apart from this some you can also try chocolate desserts at Concu, Feranoz, Labonel & funnel hill creamy. I bet you won't be disappointed. Thank Me later!

I have been a sweet tooth all my life. I loved chocolates so much that I had 4 filing in the teeth at the age of 13. I always need something sweet after dinner. Right now, my to-go favorite dessert is Dark chocolate fudge and nut ice cream from Shahi Durbar Ice Cream Factory. It is the creamiest ice cream with fudge and nuts infused into it, just make it perfect. The taste palette isn’t extremely sweet, it’s quite light and that makes it even better!

IT professionals

Funnel hill creamery is a very decent cafe located in Jubilee Hills. We have visited the place multiple times just because of its great options in desserts. Must-try desserts would be triple chocolate cheesecake and triple chocolate waffle. The cheesecake was outstanding, the chocolate was smooth with the right texture and the right amount of sweetness. I would definitely recommend trying Triple Chocolate cheesecake as it is worth tasting.

Chocolate is definitely the way to my heart. My go-to chocolate dessert is the Chocolate Dirt Pile from everyone’s favorite, Farzi Cafe. I love how this creation leaves my taste buds awestruck and me completely speechless. It has lots of chocolate ingredients in different forms, most importantly lots of love. It is crunchy, soft, and creamy with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and some chocolate sauce. It is worth every single bite. Every time I crave a dessert, the next minute I find myself pouring over the Chocolate Dirt Pile. Wishing truckloads of chocolate to you too!

Over the years, people have experimented with flavours and given chocolates a gourmet avatar. More commonly known as artisanal chocolates, chocolatiers are getting unbelievably creative and experimental with their infusions. Dive into the wonderful world of chocolates, by visiting "Zuci" , at Road No. 46, Jubilee Hills. Zuci offers a range of artisanal chocolates, with exquisite combinations, whose concoctions will leave one's mind boggled and tongues salivating. As I entered, what grabbed my attention instantly is the array of chocolates on the display. Adding to the artisan chocolates, they have dessert Jars, Exotic Fruit Tart, Eclairs, savory items, and beverages like coffee, exotic tea, and mocktails, among others. Not only did they nail the dessert section, but also their savory feasts give intense joy. My favorite is their signature 12-layered rich chocolate cake, and trust me, it is no less than heaven for a Chocolate lover. The chocolate flavor with silky-smooth texture, subtle sweetness, and pleasant chocolate aroma, was irresistibly delicious. No matter what type of chocolate treat you are fantasizing over, make sure you are getting a heavenly dose of some of their eclectic mix of handcrafted chocolates, by visiting Zuci.

ALL TIME SKIN CARE ESSENTIALS

Skincare should be of utmost importance regardless of the time of the year because the benefits of a proper regimen will last a lifetime. Taking a few minutes to unwind and tend to your skin is necessary amidst the daily hectic lives. Here is a compilation of the importance of a routine and products for you to have a sustainingly healthy and glowing skin.

BEAUTY I MARCH,2023 71 TULIP

SKINCARE ROUTINE

There is no universal routine since skin types are distinct and particular to one’s genetics and environment. Every skin type requires care customized to suit its needs The fundamental steps include cleansing, exfoliating, and moisturizing and it is universal to all skin types and seasons. But apart from those, it is necessary to include a few more steps to ensure good health of your skin.

The primary step is cleansing to strip off dirt and oil from the layer. To preserve the natural oils, use a soap-free cleanser that’s gentle on your skin. Make sure to not cleanse too much because it can lead to dryer skin

Exfoliating is essential to remove the dead skin cells and unclog the pores. Use products that do not have coarse ingredients. Exfoliation also helps in the growth of new cells which results in glowing skin. Makeup tends to absorb better and pimples and blackheads reduce when exfoliation is well done. Moisturization is a requisite step despite the humid weather because humidity dehydrates the skin. Choose a lightweight, water-based moisturizer to restore hydration in the skin and keep it smooth Sunscreen is the mandatory rule you should abide by despite the cloudy weather. With at least a minimum of 30 SPF, use a non-greasy sunscreen and apply it thoroughly to protect your skin from UV rays

Masks are a great way to replenish the moisture in your skin or curb the oil based on the type of skin you have.

A simple tip is to understand your skin type and act according to that. If your skin is dry, focus more on moisturization than exfoliation. If it is oily, exfoliate more and moisturize less. If you have a mixed skin type, then use products that complement such skin and target the dry areas as well as oily areas simultaneously.

Brands you can rely on:

• Neutrogena

• Minimalist

• Skincraft

• Kama Ayurveda

• Body Shop

• Forest Essentials

• Clinique

• Mcaffeine

• Cetaphil

You can buy these products at your nearby Health&Glow stores or from their official websites or the Nykaa App.

Dos and Don’ts:

Do not pick on the pimples Although it is tempting and difficult to control, refrain from doing so. It will lead to acne marks that do not disappear quickly. Do not skip sunscreen. Even if you are at home, under the shade or the sun is hiding behind the clouds, always wear sunscreen It helps in the long run and is greatly beneficial. Do not wash your face with hot water. The skin on the face is more sensitive and fragile than the skin on the body. So, treat it with utmost care and gently. Use cold or lukewarm water while cleansing your face

Always protect and cover your face from rainwater. The polluted water can be harsh on the skin and drenching in the rain for longer durations can adversely affect its condition.

Drink a good amount of water and stay hydrated. Apply minimal and light makeup that allows your skin to breathe. Heavier makeup can result in breakouts and clogged pores combined with the humid weather.

Impact of diet on skin:

Apart from the external application, what you consume influences the health of the skin. Intake of nutritious food makes your skin glow from within Including food enriched with Vitamin A & C, antioxidants help in the rejuvenation of skin cells. Try to cut down on oily and sugary foods and caffeinated drinks

Importance of exercise:

Regular exercise aids in better health of your skin. It detoxes your body and flushes the impurities off your skin resulting in fresh and beaming skin

A balanced combination of products, diet, and exercise can show significant results in the appearance and condition of your skin.

In conversation with your trusted Dermatologists

Dr. Golla Sandeep, MD DVL, is a skin specialist and dermatologist with years of experience and knowledge. His clinic “Saanvi’s Skin & Hair Clinic” is located in Banjara Hills.

Why should people invest in skincare?

It’s not an investment but rather protection. As the saying goes prevention is better than cure. So early care of skin with a few limited products which suit your skin will help in preventing wrinkles, folds, blemishes, unwanted moles, and pigmentation on the face.

What are the basic steps we should incorporate into our everyday skincare?

The first is cleansing with a mild pHbalanced cleanser, it will help in removing dust and oil on the skin. Then use a preservative-free moisturizer for dry to mixed skin types. The most important is a cream based 50 SPF sunscreen, at least once daily, which will offer protection against harmful UV rays.

What is one product that should never be skipped in skincare routines?

Make it a habit to cleanse the skin at least twice daily, this will help in removing dust, debris, and oil secreted.

What else helps apart from product application?

Monsoon is a humid season, so the chances of fungal infections, acne, and allergies are high. Minor diet and lifestyle changes will give a greater impact like enhancing fluid intake, avoiding dairy products before bedtime for those who are prone to acne, avoiding greasy junk food, avoiding steam, and eating pulses which are a good source of proteins.

BEAUTY I 74 MARCH,2023 TULIP

What are the basic steps we should incorporate in our everyday skincare?

A sunscreen for daytime and a moisturizer for bedtime! The importance of sunscreen cannot be emphasized enough, it helps in anti-ageing in the long term, and glow in the short term! Just find the right sunscreen for you.

What is the one product that should never be skipped in skincare routines?

A sunscreen - there is no skincare without it. The importance of sunscreen cannot be emphasized enough, it helps in antiaging in the long term, and glow in the short term! Just find the right sunscreen for you.

What kind of face wash is ideal for this weather?

A mild cleanser with lactic acid is best.

A few tips for someone who finds it difficult to maintain a routine. Make sure you do it for 30 days and it becomes a habit. Don't think of it as work, enjoy the process. Add it to your morning routine – brush your teeth, wash your face, take a bath, and use skincare.

A mere 5 kilometres north of the city limits of Jodhpur, is the Welcome Heritage Balsamand Lake Palace, overlooking the still Balsamand Lake. While its location in the trade routes made it a major trading center in the 16th century, present-day Jodhpur is best known for the skills it honed and retained in its textile, crafts and furniture traditions.

Built in red sandstone employing the typical ornate Rajput architectural style, it was initially conceived as the summer residence of the Jodhpur Maharajas. This old royal retreat has now been fitted with all modern amenities which however, do not take away from the old-world charm of the property. The lake itself was artificially created in the 13th century as a water reservoir that supplied drinking water to the city and now complements the lush green lawns and staggered terraced gardens of the property.

BAL SAMAND LAKE PALACE, MANDORE, RAJASTHAN

The Palace is set within 60 acres of lime and pomegranate orchards and landscape gardens, which lead up to the promenade overlooking the lake. The Palace features ten suite bedrooms, decorated in the traditional Jodhpur style. Traditional seating areas, dining alcoves, period furniture and spacious bathrooms offer spectacular views of the lake and gardens. A 250 sqm open air turquoise swimming pool is encased by an arched parade and enjoyed by all guests at the property.

Overall making this a world class Heritage Hotel fully equipped with stateof-the-art amenities offer a comfortable stay of a lifetime. The property features food and beverage outlets: The Garden Restaurant, Kebab Konner: Barbeque and Lake View Restaurant.
