o raise awareness for a medical condition Sufian Mohammed 13, and his 9 year-old T sister Alifia spent an afternoon hitting golf balls at the Belhus Park Golf And Country Club Driving Range. Before it Sufian said: “I have Tourette Syndrome with Vocal & Motor tics, (including ADHD, SPD, OCD and Generalised Anxiety) and I attend a SEN school Treetops in Grays. I wished to raise monies to help other children just like me as hitting a small golf ball with a small golf club is a challenge but I am prepared to reach this goal.” In the end, in the rain and both youngsters with blisters Sufian didn’t just reach it – together with his sister, dad and friends they smashed 1,500 balls down the range! Afterwards Sufian and Alifia celebrated after emptying all 15 golf buckets and turning them into a Celebratory Pyramid. -2-

OPEN DELIGHT FOR GRAEME AND DOUG ive Lakes Golf Club held their Men's Open F Wednesday 17th July, the golf club welcomed 96 entrants from golf clubs from Kent, Suffolk, Hertfordshire and Essex. On a very warm day playing the championship Lakes course from the White tees made for some competitive scoring. Five teams returned 40 Stableford points to be just outside the main prizes, John Roberts and Steve White from Hainault Forest GC, Paul Sevastano and Terry Fisher from Kings Hill GC, John Regan and Peter Bray from Gosfield Lakes GC and Kevin Bradshaw and Chris John Lee from Five Lakes GC. Three pairs disputed the main prizes with 41 points each only to be separated on countback, third place going to Joe Ramsey (15) and James Roblin (14) from Five Lakes, second place went

Doug Wood and Graeme Sinfield receiving the Eddie Curtis Trophy for winning the Five Lakes Open from club Captain Eric Howlett..

to Andy Lee (11) and Roger Giles (18), winners of the Eddie Curtis Trophy were the home pair of Graeme Sinfield (18) and Doug Wood (18) with the better 6 holes.

STANLEY WINS hursday 18th July saw 46 seniors turn out at Playgolf Colchester for The Michael T Johnson Veterans’ Trophy. Introduced by Michael

Stanley Knights winner of Michael Johnson Veteran Trophy.

Johnson three years ago with the object to provide a trophy for 65 and overs at what was thought to be the age when winning trophies was more difficult. However, on reflecting the age of the contestants, it was found 41 out of the total were over 65, Johnson was said to say maybe he should put the age limit up to 70 as players of this age are fitter and play golf to a later age. However, on the day the trophy went to Ipswich based Stanley Knights (27) with 39 stableford points. Terry Bridge (21) was second on countback from the ever-improving John Eade (23) both with 36 points. Alan Barrett, Daniel Caffin, on the sixteenth and Shaun Evans on the fourteenth all won a sleeve of balls for birdies on the par 3 holes. -8-

CHAMPIONSHIP DAY AT STOKE BY NAYLAND

Four winners at the club championship weekend. Left to right: Trevor Brace, AJB Cup winner (nett competition), Andrew Tokley, Club Champion (gross), Tracey Dickens, Ladies Club Champion (gross) and Lesley Hitchcock, Ladies nett winner.

he weekend of the 29th and 30th of June saw 106 members at Stoke-by-Nayland Golf T Club compete for the Club Championship (gross) and AJB Cup (handicap). This was played on Saturday on the Gainsborough course with a cut in the field down to the top 25 in both competitions. The Sunday was then played on the Constable course with the leaders going out at the back of the field. After the first day the leader in the gross competition was Callum Hensby (+1) with a score of 68, 3 under par. 3 shots back was Andrew Tokley (3) with a gross 71. The leader in the handicap competition was Del Prichard (6) with a nett score of 66, with Andrew second with a net 68. On the second day, the winner of the gross competition was the player who just made the cut, Scott Brace (1), with a gross score of level par 72. Unfortunately the overnight leader, Callum, returned a score of 77 to be pipped to the title by 1 shot. Until this year Andrew was still classed as a

teaching professional although he gave this up a few years ago to work in the Stoke-by-Nayland finance office. Having relinquished this he became eligible to play in this event for the first time in a long time, so congratulations to Andrew for his excellent win. The overnight leader in the AJB Cup could not return a similar score on the Sunday, and a ball into the pond on the difficult 3rd put paid to his chances with a triple bogey 7. He finished in 7th place. With the 2 good rounds, Andrew Tokley also recorded the best nett score of 138. However, it is not allowed to win both trophies so the AJB cup went to Trevor Brace (12). Although Trevor scored a creditable 72 on the Gainsborough, a good second round of 68 on the Constable, to return an aggregate of 139, saw him beat Luke Crawley ( 69 & 71) by 1 shot. Trevor was one of the few players to return a better score on the Sunday than they had on the Saturday and this took him from 15th place overnight to the winning position.

ost people play 12 to 15 holes good holes in their round but have a few bad holes with M double bogey or worse that quickly build up and destroy a good score. There can be many issues as to why those bad holes happen but a common issue is after hitting a poor shot the next one compounds the error. Everyone hits bad shots but the key is to not hit 2 bad shots in a row and turn that bad hole into just a bogey and maybe an occasional par. So ask yourself these key questions next time you find yourself in a bad situation.

gamble. But, more often than not when you reflect on these decisions you come to the conclusion that just getting the ball back in play would have meant you would have avoided the big number.

Ask yourself how can I set up my next shot? You will have to make a decision as to

where you can best play your next shot from. You want to give yourself the easiest shot you can and that gets you back into position on the hole. Can I make this shot 7 times out of 10? It is fun to try the risky Seve style recovery shot and there are situations where you need to take a 12 --- 12

TRIPLE SUCCESS FOR NEW HALL GOLF TEAM Oliver Warn, Henry Styles and Freddie Warn.

ongratulations to Oliver Warn (Year 10), Freddie Warn (Year 9) and Henry Styles (Year C 8) for becoming the net winners of the HG Trophy at the Forest of Arden Marriott Hotel & Country Club in Coventry. The team added to their recent successes, which include, Essex Schools Team Champions and ISGA Junior Schools gross winners. The New Hall golf team will be competing in July at the English Schools National Finals at Woodhall Spa Golf Club. The golf team are currently ranked 13th in the Order of Merit, which is out of 140 schools who have competed in the Independent Schools Golf Association in 201819. This is a fantastic achievement! Mr Searle, Head of Golf, who is leaving after 10 years’ service said, “I would like to extend great thanks to the parents and teachers for their support. This has given the New Hall golf team the opportunity to compete successfully all over the country during the past 10 years. I wish all the students the best of luck in their golfing aspirations.” Alongside a successful academic programme,

New Hall School provides excellent facilities and training for budding sports stars and fantastic music and performing arts provision. The Catholic boarding and day school for students aged 1-18 has a distinctive ‘diamond model structure’ and a strong ethos of pastoral care, which supports students in their endeavours, allowing them to achieve success in a wide variety of fields. There was also a prize category for boys with 29-36 handicaps, and the winner was Colne Valley’s Thomas Cooper with 39 points. Coastal Golf Academy professional Scott Rusbridge said: "Our thanks must go to Colne Valley and county officials Lawrence Kingsnorth and Bill Dunbar for their assistance in running the event." The day before 100 entrants took part in the Pete McKay Invitational Day, and the winners with 126 points were Tony and Thomas Murton and Alex and Adam Grimshaw. Second were Mason, James and Mia Barningham and Daisy Eves with 117, and third with 116 were Alan and Val Cook and Michael and Janet Battle.

THE OBLIQUES MAKE A BETTER

Swing

very golfer wants to hit the ball further and with more power. One fine way of helping E this is to strengthen and build the obliques. In fact, if these muscles on the sides of your stomach are weak, you’ll really struggle to make solid contact with the ball. When you swing efficiently, you should load your obliques as you coil towards the top of your backswing, elongating (stretching) them to achieve the correct position at the top. In the downswing, your obliques, together with the psoas major, are highly activated, creating a crunch-like position as you extend your hips and tilt your pelvis, while keeping your chest over the golf ball. To put it very simply, the stronger your obliques are, the more power and speed you will achieve in your swing. So how do you start strengthening and building the obliques? The next exercise is an example if an oblique exercise but I highly recommend you seek a professional and get a golf specific bespoke exercise programme.

THE RUSSIAN TWIST Using a Swiss ball, lay supine on the ball with the head neck and top of shoulders only on the ball, hips straight and the glutes squeezed to keep the hips up. Whilst keeping the eyes to the ceiling, hold the hands together above the chest and turn using the obliques from one side to the other. Find this exercise on YouTube for a video demonstration.

THE MIND ZONE Y

our ‘mind’ will always do what it thinks you want, whether that’s useless or useful, at that moment in time. In general, it will want to please you and by doing what it ‘thinks’ you want, it is basically obeying orders. It also cannot understand a negative command! As an example, if you say to a child ‘Don’t touch that radiator’, their mind hears ‘Touch that radiator, don’t’… but by then it’s too late!

In other words, you have to think about that thing first, before not thinking about it! Adults, generally, are the same, if you get handed at your table a hot plate, the waiter/waitress will often say ‘Don’t touch the plate, it’s hot’… before you go ahead and touch it! What your mind ‘hears’ here is ‘Touch the plate… don’t’ and if you want further proof (and I’m not even with you whilst you read this)… If I said to you, ‘Don’t think of Pink Elephants and Blue Apples’… in your mind you have created the very thing … even though they don’t exist (Well, other than in your mind)! Tell yourself only what you do want. Standing on the tee, saying or thinking to yourself, ‘Don’t go left, Don’t go right, don’t be short, don’t go into the bunker’ purely gets the mind thinking about all these things! Instead, stand on the tee, pick out a point where you want to land the ball, and visualise that ball landing. Then, select a club that you know you can reach with, and swing! Will it always go to that point? No, of course not, but there is a far greater chance of it doing so, and as we know, golf is a game of consequence, and if you were just 30% more consistent, that would be a bonus, wouldn’t it?

Most people tell me about a ‘Nemesis hole’ on their course, or one on a course they have played many times. In reality, they are simply golf holes. Stand on the tee and tell yourself, what you want to do. Pick out a line, maybe a tree in the distance, and line up to that… ignore everything else around you. At The Open recently, Shane Lowry actually lined up towards the end of his final round with a ‘steward in a blue jacket, 5 yards to the right of the pin’ … I heard him discussing this with his caddy. No, it won’t always go to plan, but there is a much greater chance of it happening. (I can refer here to The Open, when both Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson both shanked a ball, when players, including Lowry, Fleetwood and Westwood all missed putts that you’d generally expect them to make), but if you miss fewer putts then your game will improve. Bob Rotella wrote a great book once, called ‘Golf is not a game of perfect’, which is so so true. Start to build good cortical pathways in your mind, by developing a process that works for you … not someone else. If you’d like more information on this, how The Mind Zone can help you or you’d like to discuss running a Mind Zone session at your club or for your society then do get in contact. www.themind-zone.com

LANDING ZONE

golfers envisage the “short game” to be the most simplistic of golf however in my opinion we have to MThebeanyareamore exact in each department to produce the “consistency” everyone desires. which I will cover this month concentrates around the landing zone when playing a chip or a finesse shot which ultimately determines the outcome of the shot. “As we appreciate the chip shot or finesse shot is a lower powerless golf shot with the overriding goal to avoid spin allowing the ball to land and roll truly to the target.” Club selection alone can be the primary reason for a well-executed or dissatisfied result so let me give you some key areas which I believe will help with your thought process. 1. Firstly, consider the lie of the ball before making your decision. There are three lies here which are commonly presented on the course. I will follow this article up next month on how to play each of these individually.

2. Secondly survey the contours of the green checking if it slopes towards or away from you, judging the amount of roll. 3. Determine which section of the green is the flattest on the line to the flag. It is preferable to land your ball on this section to avoid inconsistent kicks and spin taking the ball away from the hole. 4. Lastly an important element of club selection is your club confidence, there are numerous situations where a variety of clubs can be used so if you are unsure always use your “to go” club. Once you have selected your club and are fully committed, I recommend taking a couple of practice swings focusing solely upon the length of backswing and tempo. The technical element is not in the equation at this point, look at the hole whilst you are swinging. I believe this blocks out any unwanted negative and technical thoughts gauging the distance and landing area simply by feel. Please let me know how you get on and follow me on Twitter @sbennettgolf or Facebook sarahbennettgolf. Sarah Bennett

LADIES DAY WIN FOR FIONA iona Prentice carded a one over par nett 73 to win Colchester Golf Club’s Charles Bland F Cup in last week’s ladies day.

Fiona Prentice.

First played for in 1922 this is one of the ladies’ original competitions and is a coveted feather in her cap. Prentice’s 73 from her twenty-one handicap was two points clear of a formation of four ladies all returning nett 75s. Three pars and a birdie on the front nine set Prentice up for the win and despite an iffy start to the back nine she was able to steady and complete her round. Linda Freeman (20) was awarded second place after the countback with Janet Austin also off 20 sneaking into third place. Philippa Deman (11) was fourth with Adrienne Strover (23) fifth. Deman also had the lowest gross round of the competition with an 86. Running concurrently with this competition was the Ladies Long Handicap Cup, won this year by Carol Irvine (31) with a nett 70. Carla Holroyd also playing off 31 was second with Fiona Rose playing off 28 in third place. In all sixty-five ladies played on the day. - 31 -

CAN YOU HAVE TOO MUCH LAG?

n my opinion lag in the golf swing is one of the hardest areas to comprehend in relation to its Ieffect on ball flight and how to manage it.

Obviously there are going to be exceptions to the following information but for the most this is how I would look at the lag issue. The main reason that lag is hard to put a definite number on is that it mainly affects three areas that are very closely linked. Downward pressure (angle of attack) and shaft lean at impact which could be misleading without a monitor of some sort and flight height (trajectory). Generally the more lag that you create (if you can sustain it to impact) the lower the ball flight. and everyone has there own ball flight. Now this is where some conjecture would come into the situation, lots of players and coaches try to create as much lag as possible but in some cases this is a hindrance to a players chance of optimum flight and distance because it creates a low launch with irons and if the club head speed of the individual is not particularly fast the ball does not carry as far is it would if the launch was up slightly. Also if the player wishes to hit the ball high it is very difficult to manage if you lag it a lot, the only real option is to go into a sideways tilt which is hard to time correctly. So working on launch angles to find optimum

High Trajectory

distance is a short cut to finding the ideal amount of lag for that person. There are various ways to help increase lag for some and decrease it for others. But I will leave that for another day. My rule of thumb for lag is taken when the left arm is parallel to the ground on the downswing (p5 morad). n High Trajectory – 90 degrees left arm and shaft n Medium Trajectory – 70 degrees left arm and shaft n Low Trajectory – 45 degrees left arm and shaft (this would be close to excessive) The difference in increasing lag angles if sustained to impact give a steeper angle of attack and more shaft lean at impact. A great way to try to feel the differences is to do some 60-80 yard pitching practice on camera and see if you can vary flight heights with the lag changes. If you would like anymore information on the issues of creating more or losing some excess lag or sustaining it for longer please feel free to get in touch using the details below. BRILLIANT TIMES AT COLNE VALLEY C

olne Valley Golf Club hosted its second Junior Open of the season and its talented youngsters made home advantage count, sweeping the board in the under 18s category. Mia Barningham won with an exceptional 44 points, Abigail March was runner-up with 41 and five handicapper Daniel Wallace was third on countback with 41. Perhaps the performance of the day went to 14-handicapper Jago Hepburn of Harwich Golf Club, who scored a brilliant 48 stableford points to win the under 14s category. Second was Chelsey Duffy of Frinton Golf Club with 41 points, just pipping Henry Pepper of Braintree Golf Club on countback. From the 62 starters in the event, which is part of the Essex Community Tour, all the winners

were trainees from the Coastal Golf Academy. There was also a prize category for boys with 29-36 handicaps, and the winner was Colne Valley’s Thomas Cooper with 39 points. Coastal Golf Academy professional Scott Rusbridge said: “Our thanks must go to Colne Valley and county officials Lawrence Kingsnorth and Bill Dunbar for their assistance in running the event.” The day before 100 entrants took part in the Pete McKay Invitational Day, and the winners with 126 points were Tony and Thomas Murton and Alex and Adam Grimshaw. Second were Mason, James and Mia Barningham and Daisy Eves with 117, and third with 116 were Alan and Val Cook and Michael and Janet Battle.

JUST HOW IMPORTANT IS THE GREAT IRON LOFT DEBATE?

f you asked me ten years ago regarding iron loft I have told you that the reason that irons Iwerewould going further was that all golf club designers were making the loft of irons stronger – basically turning a seven iron into a six iron etc. Looking back iron loft has always been one of the more controversial components of iron design but after all, loft is only a number and it's not the number you put on your scorecard. But, is iron loft still a major design attribute? Absolutely but in my opinion other elements of the head’s design now come into the equation. But what’s changed? Mainly it’s the speed the ball comes off the face, lighter thinner faces have an almost ‘trampoline’ effect, harder materials help increase ball speed but the best part is they can give a little more help on off centre strikes. Another aspect to the ‘then’ and ‘now’ of iron loft is that many moons ago long irons were standard issue, now many golfers would not even

contemplate a three or even four iron - so the hardest irons to hit have disappeared to clear the way for distance ‘combos’ of hybrids, driving irons and normal irons. Does it really matter if a six hybrid rather than a six iron lands close to the hole? After all, it’s not cheating – it’s totally legal! From a golfer’s perspective do they really care about the loft on their iron, after all it’s generally not shown anywhere on the club? I think it’s more important that they are seen to be hitting a similar club to their buddies … for example if a golfer is two clubs behind what their opponent has hit I can’t see them going to the trouble of explaining that the reason is it is due to the fact that they are playing ‘traditional’ lofts! At the end of the day everything moves on (not always for the better) but I think we are probably at the end of the road for decreasing loft in an iron, otherwise we will all be carrying about five different irons and about six wedges … if you push up the distance on the irons it’s only going to create a hole in the bag somewhere else.

NOTLEYS GOLF MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT LONGEST DAY

n Friday 21st June, the “Motley Notley” group of four intrepid golfers, took up the O challenge, on behalf of Macmillan Cancer Supports “Longest Day,” to play four rounds of golf in one day. On the tough, hilly, Notleys Golf Club in Black Notley, and weaving amongst

the River Brain, members Rob Heard, James Mullenger, Sonny Potter and William Towse braved tough conditions to raise as much as they could for a fantastic charity. Teeing off at 5.25am and then 72 holes later they finished at 7.30pm for around 14 hours of golf for a great cause. William confirmed, “We powered through it quicker than we thought, played some cracking golf which surprisingly got better all the way to the end, walked up and down the hilly course of ‘The Notleys’ for about 22 miles and have rather large grins on our faces now it’s complete!” The team certainly pushed themselves on the golf scoring. As individuals, they also kept getting better and team scores kept improving ... 93/94/99 and a brilliant 104 to finish which they are super proud about, even more so, the money for charity that they have gathered. Well done lads!

DAVID BRIFFAUT CHARITY GOLF DAY ne of Boyce Hill’s recently qualified young greenkeepers, David Briffaut suffered a very O serious accident leaving him with catastrophic injuries whilst on holiday in Spain with his girlfriend recently. These injuries have left him currently paralysed with the full extent of his injuries still being assessed. Whilst on holiday, David visited a Waterpark with his girlfriend and friends they were on holiday with. David suffered severe spinal injuries at the bottom of one of the water slides, leaving him on life support in Hospital in Alicante.

Having grown up at Boyce Hill as a Cadet and now working as part of our Greenkeeping team, he is very much a part of the fabric of the Club. CRASH! BANG! WALLOP!

Andy Pastel receiving trophy from club captain Jim Wilkinson.

ndy Pestell knocked three shots off the professional course record at Colchester A Golf Club’s 32nd East Region PGA run ProAm. Pestell, attached to Chelmsford Golf Club, a regular performer at this event, put in a round of 61 to comfortably establish a new course record at the Club Without a single dropped shot Pestell carded seven birdies and an Eagle, going out in 31 and coming home in 30. His scorer said after the round that he was hoping that Pestell would beat the record, “Never thought of that” said Pestell “I had my eye on a 59.” On the day after the hottest July day on record with the temperature at a slightly more comfortable level second place went to Paul Maddy with an excellent 65. Colchester’s own pros had a good day with Mark Baker taking 9th spot with a 68. Rueing a double bogie on the last which wiped out an Eagle on the second. Chris Cutchie has gone back to the drawing board on how to play par threes. Notching up seven birdies in his round only to spoil them by bogeying all the par threes. Cutchie's pain was eased by being the pro' in the BC Designs team which won the team prize. Their score of -19 was enough to put them two clear of four teams on -17. Second place went to Cask Marque’s team of David Salisbury (Three Rivers) Paul Nunny, Roger Wright and Alistair Macnaught. Third the Tee-Rific team of Ruebotham, John Redden, Ed Woods and Richard Hayes with Pestell’s team taking fourth spot manned by Clive Hebden,

Roger Moore and Tim Rogers. The Captain’s team secured fifth spot with Maddy, Jim Wilkinson, Mike Carroll and Alan Irvine. The Irvine family were also main prize winners in the raffle, winning the use of a Villa holiday in Barbados. The day was in aid of E.A.C.H. (East Anglian Children’s Hospice) which does excellent work in supporting families and caring for children with life-threatening conditions. Nearest the pins on the par-three’s were Oliver Allison, John Dornan, Amanda Munson and Mike Duley and nearest the pins with their second shot was Oliver Allison (14th) and James Ruebotham on the 18th, pros only. Thanks must go to Tim Rogers, Bill Hart and Bill Anslow for the organization. ABRIDGE LADIES GOLF CHARITY DAY

n Tuesday 25th June 2019 Abridge Golf and Country Club Ladies held their O incredible Ladies Golfing Day in aid of Prostate cancer. Attended by one hundred ladies playing golf it was a fantastic success. The golfing ladies raised a bumper £24,000 and everyone who attended said it was a fabulous day. The weather forecast was absolutely dreadful and the Abridge ladies were really worried as thunderstorms were predicted, but although the fear of a storm was announced, other than a deluge on the Monday evening the day miraculously remained dry. The sun shines on the righteous! This year’s committee was headed by Alison Levy with the charity being close to her heart as she recently lost her father to Prostate cancer. The monies raised by the Abridge Ladies Section will fund specialised equipment to help early diagnosis and treatment of Prostate cancer. Once the golf was completed the ladies changed into their finery, and after a welcome to Abridge speech from the lady captain Deborah Jacobs, each

chose their food from a magnificent buffet. Thanks to Denise and the wonderful Abridge staff for catering the delicious lunch. There was a great buzzy atmosphere and the dining room and prize table looked beautiful with its turquoise colour scheme. Many thanks to the board and directors of Abridge Golf and Country club who allowed the Abridge Ladies the courtesy of the course for this prestigious day.

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU HAD UNDER 30 PUTTS?

t’s a statistic that I feel is more suited to most Golfers as people can quantify that IoverAmateur a whole round, rather than Putts Per Green in regulation. All statistics are great if it’s something you like or you feel that you get important information into how you are going to improve! So why ask that question? Well we have watched all the Majors this year. Tiger won his 15th Major at The Masters and his average was just over 29 putts per round. Brooks Koepka putted well at The PGA Championship to win back to back. If you can use Justin Rose’s performance at Pebble Beach, (which was won by Gary Woodland) it was his Putting that kept him in contention and also to note that he is the 4th best Putter on The PGA Tour this year. Also, you don’t Win The Open just by playing well. You have to Putt well too as Shane Lowry showed us. My opinion is that if we spent half the hours on Putting and also the Short Game that most people put into their swings, I am sure they would become better golfers. The reason this happens is that everyone is wanting to hit more fairways and greens to hit the ball closer. I’m not saying don’t work on your swing as this is important. Let’s do something very basic. Go and play a minimum of 6 to a maximum of 10 rounds and

for each round, put these statistics together as follows; n Fairways Hit n Greens in Regulation n Putts Per Round n Up and Down around the Green n Overall Score Find your overall average for each area. You also need to factor your handicap. Basically anyone with an 18 handicap or above doesn’t need to hit any greens in regulation as an example. Look at your results and then see what has happened over those rounds. Hopefully you will see a pattern emerge. Also, it will be interesting to see how many putts you have had in each round. Did you Break 30 or at least match it once during this period. Was you giving yourself opportunities to hole putts or was other departments letting you down. Only time will tell! With this information and with the forthcoming Winter (sorry to mention that in August) it will hopefully give you a plan of action to help your game in 2020. Now that’s a vision isn’t it! Happy Golfing,

GIRLS, GIRLS, GIRLS ... hat an outstanding event at Three Rivers: beautiful sunshine, two fantastic courses W and a day of firsts for the BJGT. Many thanks to the team at Three Rivers for being so accommodating, welcoming and helpful on the day! Girls, Girls, Girls‌has to be the headline, as they took the top three places in the Mixed Net Division of the Junior Open! The first time that this has happened on the BJGT and it is fantastic to see, as Lily Frost and Emily Dixon finished as joint runners-up after matching rounds of 70, but Zoe McLean-Tattan continued her outstanding form to claim top spot once again with a round of 69. In the Girls Gross Division, Sunny Wang stopped Zoe claiming double victory, as she took the gold medal after posting a round of 85, with Zoe and Jessica Brown tied for second, two shots behind. In the Boys Division, form again shone through, as Micah Blowers secured another victory with his 78, which was good enough by a single shot ahead of Harry Flynn and Lewis Beeden, who shot matching 79s. The 6 & Under Division provided another first, as we had a 3-way tie at the top: Ronak Alwala, Freddie Buck and Leo Boniface all carded rounds of 39. Ronak took his first BJGT win after

the countback, leaving Freddie and Leo with silver medals. Remarkably, lightening then struck twice, as the 11-12 Division produced exactly the same result, with three tied at the head of the field. William Bailey, Joseph Sidwell and Alexander Oddy all fired rounds of 91, so countback was again required to decide the winner, with William getting the better of this decision. Finley White returned to winning ways in the 9-10 Division, as his round of 46 was good enough to take the gold medal, and, almost unsurprisingly, we saw another tie for second, with Rudy Maxwell and Freddie Raven both shooting rounds of 48. In the 9-10 Girls, you guessed it, there was a tie at the top, but as there needs to be a winner, Lucie Strnadova took the win, with Saphire Boyce coming runner-up. The 7-8 Division saw Oliver McDonnell claim his first win of the season after a fine round of 39, with Sully Donald returning to form just a single shot behind in second and it almost goes without saying that there was a tie for third between Dominic McKenna and Oscar Ford, who both took home bronze medals. Arguably the closest set of results we’ve seen on the BJGT - it just goes to show what happens when you present juniors with courses set up for their size!

CURTIS KNIPES AT THE OPEN AT ROYAL PORTRUSH hen Curtis Knipes played at Burhill in Surrey in the hope that he would Qualify W for Final Qualifying, he probably didn’t imagine that in a few weeks’ time he would be stood on the range next to Tiger Woods. But after squeezing in to Finals with a 69 (-3) at Burhill GC, followed by his excellent 67 & 68 at Princes in Final Qualifying, beating the likes of David Howell to win one of only three available places, Curtis had booked his spot in the biggest Championship in golf. The build-up to the Thursday must have been hectic, last minute organising of accommodation, travel and everything else that is required to prepare for such a monumental occasion as the 18-year-old from Chelmsford Golf Club prepared for his Thursday morning tee time of 8:47am, with Mikko Korhonen & 2008 Ryder Cup player Oliver Wilson. Curtis made use of his practice days, when he spotted a space on Monday’s practice sheet next to Tommy Fleetwood & Sergio Garcia he couldn’t resist. There he was playing with two of the world’s best. The Essex Golf Union’s Twitter account had never been so interesting! Unfortunately for Curtis, even after a very respectable 72 (+1) on the Thursday with a front Curtis & Josh The Open. nine that put Curtis in tied 13th place, a tough Friday meant he would not make the Cut and play at the weekend. His experience will be a huge help for his future and we can only pat Curtis on the back for a tremendous achievement despite not quite making it to Sunday. Curtis’ goal must have been to make the Cut and earn the Silver medal, but with none of the amateurs in the 148th Open making the Cut, it proved that the conditions and competition was fierce, as you would expect it to be in the fourth and final major of the year. From everyone at The Essex Golf Union, Congratulations Curtis to You and Your Team!

THE HERBERT BISHOP VASE Thorpe Hall Golf Club – Wednesday 26th June 2019 he Herbert Bishop Vase was presented by WH Bishop of Mersea Island Golf Club in 1939 to be competed for by the Captains and Secretaries of the affiliated clubs and the members of the T County Executive Committee. In recent years this has been expanded to allow other Club officials to play if the Captain or Secretary/Manager is not available. This year’s fixture was contested by a field of 34 teams, and Thorpe Hall hosted a magnificent day. The format was fourball betterball stableford with 90% handicap allowance. The weather was warm with bright sunshine in spells throughout the day with swirling winds that made playing conditions and club selection tough. Early scores suggested scoring was going to be tough even though play was taking place on a beautifully presented golf course. The best of the early scores returned were all in the mid-thirties, nothing to write home about, but then in came Ilford’s Kevin & George Durrant with 37 points. They were soon followed in by Iain Kirkman & Eric Howlett of Five Lakes who returned with a respectable 38 points to take the temporary Clubhouse lead, but which was only good enough for 5th place in the final reckoning. The next best score came in from Canons Brook’s Charles Bateman & Peter Jowett with 39 points, and this was good enough for 4th place. The top three places were tightly contested with all three teams with a fantastic score of 40 points. In third place on countback were Jesse Roast & Keith Duggan of Warley Park. John Reeder & Barney Bannington from Theydon Bois were sat in the clubhouse for some time at the top of the leader board, having scored 19 points on the back nine, and as fewer and fewer teams were left out on the course it was beginning to look like it was going to be their day. But, last in off the course were the pair from Burnham on Crouch, Paul Hegarty & Warren Needham. Burnham’s duo managed to negotiate the back nine in 20 points which snatched the trophy from Theydon Bois’ grasp. Warren Needham’s speech was complimentary of the course and the hospitality on display from Thorpe Hall and he thanked his playing partners and the Essex Golf Union for such an enjoyable & successful day. He also thanked the Essex Golf Union for all the work they do for clubs in administering competitions each year. Congratulations to all our winners and a huge thank you to Thorpe Hall Golf Club and all of their staff who were fabulous hosts as always, on and off the course. - 46 -

ESSEX SENIORS CHAMPIONSHIP Wanstead Golf Club – 4th & 5th July 2019 he 2019 Seniors Championship was hosted by Wanstead Golf Club who welcomed the 64 T seniors that were due to compete over the two days. The fairways were running fast due to the lack of rain over the past few weeks and the greens were running true. Warm conditions greeted the players on both days with a gentle breeze keeping the players comfortable. The scores on day 1 proved that the conditions were tough as few players managed to post anything around the par of 69. As half the field had completed their round former Champion, Tiki Hadjioannou (Maylands), submitted a score of 73 to set a challenging Clubhouse lead. This score was soon equalled by Wanstead member, Paul Knight, and Tony Wheals (Orsett). As the late starters began to conclude their rounds John Wright (Basildon) set the bar a little higher with a very steady score of 72. John’s lead was short lived as two of our Seniors County team regulars, Mike Partridge (Thorndon Park) and Ian Moore (Romford) completed rounds of one over par 70. Perhaps the highlight of Thursday’s play was the round of Gerry Keane (Thorndon Park) who managed to negotiate the Wanstead course in 81 strokes. The point to note was that Gerry is 82 years old, and so had managed to score under his age. On day two the course proved just as challenging to the players. Mark Stones (Boyce Hill) had a slightly disappointing first day 74, but submitted a very tidy second round score of 71 to set the Clubhouse target of 145. Graham Bennet (Chelmsford), a 5 handicapper, then equalled the best score of the championship with an excellent round of 70 to finish on 145, the same score as Mark but just nudging in front on countback. In the last group to complete the final round John Wright proved what a steady Seniors player he has become with a second score of 72, giving him a 144 finishing total. But defending champion, Ian Moore, held his nerve playing alongside John, submitting a score of 71 for a 141 total and a three-shot victory. A great defence of the title he won last year. In the handicap categories prizes are presented to those who did not feature in the gross prizes. The over 55’s winner was John Moody (Bentley), with a total of 141, playing off his 5 handicap. The over 60’s winner was a former Seniors Championship winner, Peter Cumberworth (Chelmsford), with a nett score of 141 from his handicap of 5. For the over 65’s Ray Weidner (The Rayleigh Club) took the honours with a score of 143. For the Over 70’s, John Wisbey (Hainault Forest) playing off his 9 handicap, managed a narrow victory with his nett 141. Our thanks to Wanstead Golf Club and Secretary Bob Ward along with his team for their strenuous efforts in preparing the course, clubhouse and catering arrangements to help ensure the championship was run in a smooth and successful manner. We also would like to thank the members of Wanstead Golf Club, for giving up their course for the duration of the event. Looking forward to next year, the 2020 championship returns to Chelmsford GC in early July.

U16 South East League Match

ESSEX v SUFFOLK v NORFOLK The Warren Golf Club – Saturday 6th July 2019 ssex entertained Suffolk and Norfolk at The Warren GC in the 2nd of Three South East Group league E matches. With the prolonged recent dry spell, the course would prove to be a stern test of judgement for the players with hard fairways and firm but true greens. Essex got off to a stuttering start with some indifferent shots off the 1st tee, but with the advantage of course knowledge Essex slowly began to forge ahead in several matches. Lewis Wright, Rory Bennet, Wilf Elliott, Tom Atkinson and Sam Gemmell were all beginning to take control of their matches. After 9 holes Essex were up in most of the matches, but at the top of the order, Will Horne was involved in a very tight match against both his opponents. Eventually he edged out his opponent from Norfolk, but lost to Suffolk. With a superior depth in the players handicaps compared to the Norfolk team Essex were in command and ran out 7-1 winners, Suffolk however were proving a much greater challenge. Lewis, Rory, Wilf and Tom put some early points on the board as the Essex team dug deep. Sam Gemmell eventually closed out his match to secure the points for Essex as they eventually won 5-3.

NORTH OF IRELAND AMATEUR OPEN Portstewart Golf Club – 8-12 July 2019

rron Edwards-Hill has won the North of Ireland Amateur Open Championship at Portstewart with a 2&1 victory against Ireland international Peter O’Keeffe in the final A having qualified for the Matchplay stages after rounds of 73, 69 (-3) finishing 9th. The 19-year-old from Chelmsford never trailed in the final. He won the first hole to take the initiative and had gone three clear by the seventh. O’Keeffe from Douglas GC near Cork, claimed the 16th to keep the match alive but his birdie attempt missed at 17 which confirmed Arron as the champion. Arron stated, “I obviously like it in Ireland, I lived in Ireland until I was 10. I grew up in Wexford, outside New Ross. I played a lot of par three courses there growing up.” Arron, who was third at the Flogas Irish Amateur Open earlier this season and a string of top 10 finishes, has been in superb form this season. He travelled to Co Sligo for the West of Ireland in April, finishing second, before returning to Rosses Point for the Irish Amateur in May. After finishing 9th in stroke play qualifying, the champion survived a scare in round two, when he was taken to the 19th by Nicholas McClay of Cairndhu. After another tough encounter with Portmarnock’s Geoff Lenehan in round three, which went the distance, Edwards-Hill cruised into the final, winning 6&5 in the quarters and 5&4 in the semis. Arron went on to add, “Round two, that was the key match, 100 per cent, the guy I played had 10 feet to beat me on the last and his putt lipped out. I didn’t play great to start but once I got comfortable, I played really well. I had good victories in the quarters and the semis, which got my confidence up.” Arron reflecting on the final against O’Keeffe said, “I made a great up and down on the seventh, as soon as I got to three up I said to myself: ‘Keep making pars.’ He had to do the work to make his birdies. That was the key really, par golf, especially in those conditions because it was really windy.” On behalf of the Essex Golf Union, congratulations Arron on a fantastic victory and good luck in the remainder of your season. § - 49 -

Rob Douglas had a chance to win his game on the 17th but his put just missed and so he went to the 18th 1up. Thankfully he won the 18th to finish 2up and push our Essex noses in front 5/4. One match remaining, Chris Bellamy who had been cruising early on at 2up, came to the 18th 1down. The BB&O player, Adam Peake, put his drive on the fairway, but Chris opted for the Members route and hit a good drive well down the 11th fairway. Adam laid up with his second well short of the green, while Chris in going for the green got caught in the cross bunkers. Adam pitched on some distance from the hole, and Chris blasted a long bunker shot pin high. Adam two-putted for his par but Chris holed his putt for a birdie to win the hole and secure a half point which won the match for Essex, 5 1/2 to 4 ½. )<'=(::.

Match Report

THE CLIFFORDS TROPHY Stockbrook Manor Golf Club – Thursday 18th July 2019 he Cliffords Estate continued their support of this event this year sponsoring the main prizes, as always, we are T grateful for your support of the amateur game in Essex. It was a mixed start at Warley Park Golf Club, early weather conditions looking bleak with the occasional show of sunshine. Around 10 o’clock once everyone had started the sky turned black and rainfall was imminent. An hour or so later the rain had fallen so heavily that some of the greens had flooded and play was suspended for 30 minutes. Despite this, once play recommenced the course was very wellpresented, the rain had only helped the course conditions by softening the fairways and greens. Unfortunately the temporary delay had definitely hampered the momentum of some of the 50 players. Order of Merit leader Lukas Warren (Thorndon Park) managed to negotiate his way round in just 70 shots (1 under par). This was tied with Kishen Velani’s (Wanstead) 70, which could have been a lot better after his first nine holes were played in 5 under par with a bogey on the tenth, Kishen’s first hole. Jack Dyer was the only man able to shoot lower than Lukas and Kishen, managing 4 birdies and an eagle with 4 bogeys equating to his 2 under par round of 69. Other noticeable names on the morning leader board would be on 1 over par 72, Warley Park member Ryan Cox, Zachary Chegwidden from Orsett. George Gennings from Thorndon Park was one back on 73 (+2). Lunch gave the players a chance to dry out and regroup. The sun decided to come out and the day turned into a warm and bright one with a moist course ready to welcome a field of hungry competitors. The afternoon scores could not have expressed this fact more so, with no less than 8 players breaking par. Harry Wood (Boyce Hill), Shaun Mills (Orsett) both had 70’s (-1) and Lukas matched his morning round totalling 140 (-2), which was good enough to secure 1st place on the leader board. Three more players had 69’s (-2) in the afternoon, Andrew Reynolds (Benton Hall), Joe Green (Orsett) & George Gennings (Thorndon Park). George’s 69 along with his 73 in the morning meant a level par day on 142, which took 5th place overall. Kishen’s level par 71 in the afternoon sealed 4th spot, and Lukas finished in third as word got around the clubhouse that there was a battle taking place on the course between Dyer and Cox. Ryan Cox out in 32 and Jack Dyer in 33 meant that with the back nine to go there was just 2 shots in it, Cox on 3 under par but Dyer now on 5 under par for the day. The back nine was an intense display of golf, playing with one another, they were fully aware that the Cliffords Trophy was almost in their grasp. Long-time friends and county representatives, the two had utmost respect for one another as their back nine commenced. Ryan started his back nine par, birdie, birdie, eagle to get to 7 under par with 5 to play. Jack was two worse just managing the two birdies on 11 & 13. This meant that they were tied on 7 under with 5 left to play. Ryan made a bogey on 14 but managed to birdie the last in great finishing style to get it back to 7 under. Unfortunately, his course record 63 was not quite enough as Jack’s afternoon card was bogey free and his birdie 4 on the 16th meant he managed a 65 and a total of 8 under par 134. This total was just enough to defend the title he won last year. - 52 -

Congratulations both players for a tremendous display of golf, friendship, respect and sportsmanship. One new course record and another winning the Trophy, both winners. The nett prizes were won by Joe Green (Orsett) with a 140 (-2) who finished runner up to Max Briggs (Warley Park) who managed to return a nett 138 (-4). Congratulations to Joe and Max on a successful day’s golf. We would like to congratulate Jack on his defense of the Cliffords Trophy and thank Warley Park on presenting the course in such fine condition as well as making everyone feel very welcome throughout the day.

Titleist Introduces New U-Series Utility Irons itleist has unveiled two new utility irons designed to expand a player’s shot options at T the top end of the bag. The new U500 and U510 models are designed to produce more distance than a standard iron and less spin than a hybrid. Available at retail from August 30, and priced at £245 per club, the U-Series utilities combine forged L-face technology with extreme amounts of high-density tungsten to deliver higher launch and faster ball speeds for game-changing long iron performance. The more compact, lower-lofted U500 is aimed at better players, and delivers high launch with a soft landing and precise distance control. The U510 is aimed at high handicappers and provides hybridlike performance in a forgiving, muscular iron shape. Offering higher launch, a larger and a widesole design, the U510 is so forgiving that Titleist has included a 16-degree 1-iron in the set. Already in the bags of dozens of tour players,

including Adam Scott, Jordan Spieth, Jimmy Walker, Ian Poulter and Bernd Wiesberger, the USeries Irons have quickly become the most played utility iron on both the European and PGA Tours. Speaking about the new range, Josh Talge,Vice President of Titleist Golf Clubs, said: “There are a lot of golfers out there who don’t want to play a hybrid, but are still searching for that kind of performance at the long end of their iron set. They want to be able to launch it higher and farther, they want to be able to shape shots, they want to be able to land it close to the hole – they just want to do it with an iron in their hands. Everything that went into U500 and U510 was geared towards giving these golfers the performance, look and feel they’ve always hoped for in a long iron, and maybe didn’t think was possible.” The U500 is offered in 2I (17º), 3I (20º), 4I (23º) lofts, and is fitted with a HZRDUS Smoke Black 90 graphite shaft as standard, plus numerous custom options at no extra charge. Marni Ines, the brand’s Director of Iron Development, said: “U500 is the incredibly versatile utility iron that tour players have been asking us for. It shares a similar size and shape to our prior generation T-MB iron, but has been completely re-imagined to give players specialised long iron performance. It’s faster, launches higher, lands softer, and feels better through impact. As you go up in the set and down in loft, everyone eventually can use help with launch. But from what we’re seeing on tour, it’s a club that can be hit almost as high as you want or as low as you want, and players are really gravitating toward that versatility.” Speaking about the more forgiving U510 model, which is offered in 1 (16º), 2 (18º), 3 (20º), 4 (22º) lofts, Ines added: “U510 is the launch king. The larger shape and wide sole allowed us to place the tungsten weighting so that the CG is lower and further back than any iron we’ve developed – and what that translates into is a lot of launch angle. The ball just gets up and out and goes. It’s a very stable and forgiving golf club, but it’s got that extra forgiveness in terms of launch. During our consumer testing, golfers couldn’t believe the shots they were hitting with a 1-iron or 2-iron – they would just turn around and smile.” Titleist will be hosting fitting and trial events, including Titleist Thursdays, at hundreds of locations across the UK ahead of its official launch at retail on August 30. To find an event, or book a free fitting, golfers should visit www.titleist.co.uk

ShakeDryTM Takes Outerwear Sales By Storm In First Half Of 2019

Shot Scope Launches New Social Hub hot Scope has announced the launch a brandnew free online feature, Course Hub, which S was released for Shot Scope V2 users in July This new technology will bring golfers together by creating a social community that allows them to virtually join an unlimited number of golf clubs, view course stats, and compete in various competitions against other Shot Scope V2 users. Shot Scope currently captures over 1 million shots around the world every 10 days and, on average, Shot Scope V2 users improve their scoring by 2.7 shots over the first 30 rounds of use. With the addition of this new, completely free online tool, golfers will have access to even more information from thousands of other users that can help them improve their game. The Course Hub allows users to search for a golf club and instantly gain access to rafts of data, such as gross and net course records, longest drives, hole-by-hole statistics, most birdies and much more. This will allow players who are going to play at a specific course for the first time to view how other users have managed their way around it and pick up useful course management tips. All data captured on users’ Shot Scope V2 GPS watches will be automatically synced to the Course Hub after they opt to share their round data. This feature will build a huge database of information on how best to play golf courses, while also allowing users to immediately view their round data and compare their statistics with other golfers. All 18 holes represent an opportunity to compete with Course Hub. Every par-five hole will become a Long Drive competition with the implementation of ‘Driving Records’, and a top-10 leaderboard will be available on each course page. If a course has no par fives, the last three par fours will act as the Long Drive holes, so that every course can benefit from this feature. To sign up, Shot Scope V2 owners can login to the Shot Scope website from July 12, where they can gain access to the new social community completely free of charge. www.shotscope.com

ollowing one of the wettest months of June on record in the UK, the award-winning Galvin F Green ShakeDry™ jacket helped lift overall sales in the outerwear category for the first half of the year and continues to boost the brand’s dominant share in Europe’s biggest golf market. The super-lightweight jacket, which features the GORE-TEX membrane on the outside for the first time, has been selling-out fast at some of the country’s leading golf retail outlets, as serious golfers turn to a garment designed for speed as well as ultimate protection from the elements. “ShakeDry™ has clearly come along at the right time for those golfers who want the best waterproof on the market and it’s been our most successful product over the past few months,” said Greg Pearse, Managing Director of Galvin Green in the UK & Ireland. “It’s proved popular not only with club golfers, but also among high profile Tour players who have chosen to wear it when contending for The Open title and have also actively promoted it on their social media channels.” “Thanks to the storming success of ShakeDry™, our outerwear market share leadership is up significantly for the first half of the year compared to 2018 and we’re excited about prospects for the rest of the year,” he added. Among the leading retailers to see how well ShakeDry™ has been received by golfers is Terry Sims, Managing Director at the Silvermere Golf Complex in Surrey, who commented: “ShakeDry™ has been a real eye opener for us and I think for the consumer as well. For those golfers who previously avoided wearing a waterproof top for fear of restriction, Galvin Green has come up with an innovation with ShakeDry™ that does exactly what the name suggests when the rain arrives, which thankfully it has this summer! We’ve been selling them through as soon as they arrive and can’t wait for more stock, as our Part 2 delivery has already sold out.” Weighing just 174 grams, the revolutionary ShakeDry™ jacket comes in Ash Grey with a silver full-length zip in sizes S-3XL at a RRP of £280. More details about the garment can be found at www.galvingreen.com

he Society of Essex Lady Captains 2nd Summer Meeting took place at Basildon Golf Club in T mid July. After the rain at the 2 previous meetings the ladies were treated to a warm and sunny day for their afternoon round. The course was in good condition especially the greens. Some of the ladies found the tree lined fairways a little troublesome, but others excelled and returned great scores. A total of 70 ladies from 29 different clubs across Essex played in the 4BBB competition off full handicap. Many of the prizes were decided on count back. 13 pairs scored 40 or more points and 3 pairs scored 43 points. As Dot Greaves, President of the Society was unable to attend,Vice President Jo Davies and Carol Bell Secretary presented the prizes. In 3rd place with 44 points ocb were Helen Williams (Burnham) & Viggi Thompson (Forrester Park). In 2nd place also on 44 points were Pam Stevens (Gosfield Lake) & Mary Ellen Lewis (Burnham). The overall winners of the competition and the Joyce Layland Trophy were Sue Britten (Chelmsford) and Gill Stallard (Brentwood).Thank

you to Basildon for hosting the event and all the staff on the day.The remaining meetings this season are at Colchester Golf Club on 22 August and Chigwell Golf Club on 23 September. Earlier in July a team travelled to Gog Ma Gog for the penultimate friendly match of the 2019 season hosted by the Cambs & Hunts Lady Captains. The match took place on The Old Course, which is an undulating course with fantastic views of the surrounding countryside. There are no water hazards on the course but there are an abundance of bunkers and very tricky greens. The format was a joint team event with the best betterball score to count for each pair with the scores added together on each hole. Winners on the day were Nicki McKemmie Watson (Crondon Park) & Anne Hemmings (Stoke by Nayland) alongside their Cambs & Hunts partners. In second place were Lynda Dunbar (The Essex) & Paula Higgins (Benton Hall) plus partners. We look forward to entertaining Cambs & Hunts Lady Captains on home soil next year.

All individual player and double results are also showcased on the Order of Merit tables within our website, and these become crucial weeks and months – clearly the clubs progressing, give additional opportunity for players to achieve more points! As it stands in July, having completed the round of 16, we only have one player on a fully loaded position having won all his matches – well done to Robert Lawrence of Woolston Manor Golf Club with a compelling 5 points ... however, less of a hole difference to some other players at Crondon or Woolston

who could supplant his position moving forward in the next phase of matches. Great position from Jason Hill (Garon Park) with 4.5 points, but is at a disadvantage to Joseph Fitzgerald (Wanstead) who will progress to next round, plus with some other Woolston and Crondon players looking to make position points in the next round, as you can see on the top of the opposite page. - 60 -

Within the Doubles we have very much a different focus, in that results are dominated by Round of Sixteen players – with six players on full points, and a single player only half a point behind. Kudos to current Third place in the OOM, Nick Sofoniou from The Burstead with an impressive record, which, sadly, is likely to be eclipsed by quarter final players. Well done Nick! For players from Woolston, Crondon, Harwich, and SbN next rounds are also key, with plenty more players with the potential to score an additional three points if their team get to the final (and they win their game!) Again, for those clubs who are not progressing, team bragging rights can still be achieved within your club with our Team Order of Merit standings. As a revised view, please see below a great example from Brentwood GC These can be found via the drop-down menu on our homepage, choosing Order of Merit Results, and clicking “In Club order” – alternatively, direct link is also below: www.jubileecup.com/matches2019/playhtml.htm

You can then scroll down to find your own clubs results, and something like below’s example from Brentwood GC, in which Lee Deeks showed his form and taking first place at his club. A reminder to all clubs - Captains, Organisers and players: it is imperative, that playing handicaps are fully up to date and represents any club results (so self-cut if necessary) - the impact to your club will be immediate disqualification in the play-off phases as per our rules 1.3 At the knock-out stages penalty will be disqualification from the competition. To reiterate, everything you need to successfully play your matches is on our website, including full contact details for the opposition under “Competing Clubs”, and key information in terms of the Rules of the 2019 competition. www.jubileecup.com/matches2019/rules2019.pdf

For all clubs please keep tracking our updates: See us on Facebook: www.facebook.com/thejubileecup/ Follow us on Twitter: @jubilee_cup The Jubilee Committee are always looking for volunteers to help us out – please contact myself or one of the Committee at the Contact details on our Homepage (top-right). http://www.jubileecup.com/ Please do LIKE /FOLLOW or subscribe to our Facebook and Twitter sites: Twitter (@jubilee_cup) Facebook page (www.facebook.com/thejubileecup/) Please LIKE us so we can keep you abreast of developments on a more regular basis than the excellent Essex Golfer!
