Add a bend mid-way down the length, then fold over, securing it as close to the head as possible.” To get the sharp edge just right, insert the extension and fold over your own ends. Secure with long bobby pins and spray for hold. For designer Jeremy Scott, life’s a beach all summer long. Patterned patchwork baby-doll dresses worn with combat boots may trigger a Courtney Love “Hole”-era flashback. Neon psychedelic tie-dyes, VW van-worthy flower decals, fringe, and faux furs, add a trippy touch of electric ladyland. Scott piles on the patterns: Hawaiian tiki shirts and leis over plaids, stripes top Shrek-motif repeats, gnarly flames over animal prints. Message tees keep it chill, with cropped cardis and belted leather short-shorts for those who dare to bare. Eugene Souleiman, Wella Professionals Global Creative Director of Care & Styling, created Scott’s hair look based on surf culture, for quirky individuality. A hidden braid or a random crimped section gives a personal signature to windswept hair styled by the sun and sea. Scott’s surfer girls accented their carefree do’s with superbright hair accessories designed by twerkette Miley Cyrus. Spring and Summer rock so hard in 2015— leave the candy pastels for the Easter basket.

Peter Som’s optimistic, crisplined silhouettes were inspired by 1960s pop art. The designer calls his olive-green print “Factory Floral”, a graphic homage to Warhol. For Som’s collection, Wella Professionals’ Souleiman applied mousse to hair, then sculpted a thick braid in back, tapering down to a sharp point. English rave culture inspired Katie Hiller and Luella Bartley’s new collections for Marc by Marc Jacobs. Polka dot chiffon in tissue-weight layers, baggy tee-shirt dresses, bustiersilhouettes and twisted bandeaus worn over message tees were paired with shiny latex sleeves and leggings in flesh-tone and black, worn with cleat-soled jackboots in shades of vanilla, marshmallow, black with khaki, and dandelion-yellow. Platform Mary Janes, hooded trenches and hard-shell purses styled like vintage boomboxes were paired with silky pajama-style shorts sets, and rolled or Velcrocuffed trousers. ponytails back to front, along the top of the crown, holding each pony with a small elastic band. Twist them down into topknots that have a tough edge - especially when the parting is kept deliberately imperfect. Leave a few of the ends loose, pinning the knots down with small U-pins. The feel is girly, yet punky and hot-messy. The Spring/Summer 2015 Osklen collection was inspired by Oskar Mestavaht’s visit to Inhotim, the outdoor contemporary art museum in Brumadinho, Brazil where modern architecture meets lush native foliage. This pairing is expressed in tropical print silks, shaggy textile layers suggesting coconut thatched roofs, and signature “half-moon” necklaces, wires which loop around the nape and terminate in fringe-y leather flowers, all kept edgy and urban with overshirts, aprons and vests made of clear plastic, edged in black. Aveda Guest Artist Frank Rizzieri styled minimalistic coiff concepts for Richard Chai’s “Cool Kids” collection. Rizzieri worked slight bends and waves into brush-straightened hair for subtle texture and a wet/dry look, commenting, “It was as if she had happened out of the shower, ran her fingers through her hair and the hair started drying; certainly the cool girl’s style.”

For the NOLCHA group of indie designers, Charlie Price for Scruples Haircare created slicked-back styles for Karolyn Pho’s “Vagabond” Collection, capturing the freewheeling wanderlust of Spring. Hair was swept cleanly off the brow and back-combed for height as models padded the runway in white Dansko clogs and retro pinafores. Scruples Rock Hard Finishing Spray keeps the bump blue-sky high.

A sense of primordial pride and inner strength born of tradition and tribal identity can inspire fashion, too.

Samurais and mystical African sorceresses may not seem relevant to today's woman, yet at second glance, their coifs are no-nonsense, colors are on trend, and they look - well just fabulous!

fascination with warrior women found in so many cultures has inspired so many works of art and now has crossed the line into fashion as well. These two hairdressing collections were inspired by two very distant concepts and continents, The Land of the Rising Sun and The Dark Continent. Japanese

Clive Lamb, owner of Clive & Co. and the creative mind behind the Samurai shoot gravitated towards the orange, red and gold colors that were consistent throughout the Samurai armor. Clive’s color team executed two shades of orange so powerfully electric that the hair takes on a life of its own. Hard edged lines and angles make a solid architectural statement, especially with the final haircut: the hair was pulled up into a direct Samurai warrior influenced “Top Knot” and was cut, as if in battle, to create a voluminous disheveled shorter style, taking the hair cut from classic to edgy. The Samurai in Japan are a warrior class, but in western cities today sociologists speak of sub-cultures, or urban tribes, often defined by ethnic or cultural roots. But more and more often a tribe may be defined simply by a neighborhood, shared interests, or common experiences. We all yearn to be a part of something bigger than ourselves, to gain a sense of belonging, security, and identity. Sam Villa, Founding Partner of Sam Villa and Redken Education Artistic Director, shares, “When a team is plugged into a tribal thought process, it encourages exploring and developing. Today, women want style that is simple and easy to maintain with details that add interest, luxury and multiple identities. And these photos are meant to ignite tribal instincts in stylists."

he twenty-first century has brought in its wake globalization, urban tribes, subcultures, and unprecedented sexual freedom. Barbering is being superseded by “men's grooming. The principle is still the same, but it is now a much more precise science covering everything from cuts and color, shaves, sideburns and brows to waxing and skin care, as more and more men have begun to care about their appearance and more aspects of male grooming have become a social norm.

Metro-, retro-, Lumber-sexuals

Just as the -gate of Watergate was readily adopted to denominate any political scandal, it seems the suffix -sexual can now be tagged onto any word to define the latest style trends in men's fashion. And on the opposite end of the spectrum is the big-bearded Lumbersexual, bringing the outdoorsy look into the mainstream and onto Main Street. And as Julie Cross, educator for Eufora Hero for Men notes, “The Lumbersexual is rugged and strapping, not unkempt and haggard. The image is about trying hard to look like you aren’t trying. You want to look like you can wrestle a bear and hold down a job.” This is why she recommends, "Your hairstyle should complement your beard. As a general rule of thumb - the more grizzly the one, the less grizzly the other should be." And don't forget to keep kissable with products like Eufora's

very bride dreams of her fairy tale wedding day as she envisioned it when she was a little girl. Luxurious flowers, a long white gown and the perfect hairstyle to enhance her beauty. Whether it be flowy curls or a light'n'airy updo, each bride should consider her own personal style. A hairstylist who has experience with brides-to-be will first

study the hair texture and density to suggest an upswept or down style to highlight the bride's best features. One of the biggest mistakes a bride can make is bringing in examples of brides who have a completely different style, color and texture than she does, as this may create unattainable goals and unrealistic expectations. Extensions and highlights can be added before the big day to increase contrast and density of the updo or downdo chosen. Then, the dress and theme of wedding will be taken into consideration, keeping in mind that one wants to complement, not compete, with the dress. A more romantic style might be down with flowing curls swept back off the face and offset by a jeweled headpiece. Time of year and location are also key when picking a suitable look. But having your hair down during the summer months might decrease the longevity of the style and create unwanted frizz throughout the evening. Romantic, elegant and modern glamour are just a few styles a bride should consider before she ties the knot.

Floral fantasies

Flowers today not only adorn the aisle or are carried in bouquets by the bridal party. The modern bride is seen pinning glamorous floral accents to her curls and the pearls of custom headpieces. Felix Fisher, of Ines Di Santo Couture, has taken his latest inspiration from lush greenery, rolling fields of flowers, and the most breathtaking gardens For the Ines Di Santo Couture Bridal 2015 Runway Show, Felix Fischer for House of European Hair and Invisi-Tab used long locks and flowered headpieces. collection, invite every woman to live her own personal fairy tale. Braids can be elegant when twisted into a lower bun or strung along the frontal part of the forehead. One suggestion for any bride thinking of adding braids to her hair is to make sure the braid or twist is loose and sits gently on the head. Tight braids with distinct parts can make any style look juvenile, resulting in unflattering

from all around the world. Felix has built elegant designs accompanied by long, flowing romantic looks. Captured in the pictures left, each look is dramatically accented by modern, luxurious sprays of pastels and white hydrangeas and roses. Each look wouldn't have been complete without the Invisi-Tab 100% Virgin European Hair Expensions which created length and fullness for each style. Remember that the addition of extensions may not suit every bride, so asking your hairstylist will help determine if they are necessary. However, extensions

can be an essential addition to a client who has finer or shorter hair and can help attain the desired volume for a richer and more intricate updo.

For more of a classic hairstyle, one might choose a chignon which can be soft by nature and worn at the nape of the neck. This coif can be both long-lasting and structured, making it perfect for the mature bride or someone who is looking for a simpler look. When choosing the prefect headpiece or "bling", you must consider the detailing to your dress along with your theme to your wedding. If you are the type of bride who is always wearing a lot of sparkle and extravagant pieces, then the sky is the limit. You can choose from tiaras to large floral arrangements with added details or opt for more of a Grecian-goddess feel with stringed diamonds across the

Comfort is just as important as finding your unique style. Adding headpieces or "bling" to your hair might be enticing but comfort in the long run is a priority. If you're a bride that enjoys fancy flair, take the advice of Marie Ferro, magical make-over expert and a Goldwell artist, to incorporate a piece that feels genuinely you and mix it with a twist of elegance. Up-do to down-do in minutes flat Steven Robertson, master stylist at Lunatic Fringe Salon, uses social media such as Pinterest and Istagram, as well as art and views on nature and design to construct the perfect style. "My brides are not models for hair shows! Their hair should reflect their own beauty, whether it be soft and natural or structural and shaped," exclaimed Robertson. His signature is transforming the bride's style from the blowout, then building a long-lasting wearable do'. By using styling products from the Kérastase line, Steven is able to infuse product into the hair, which can be easily curled and converted from an up-do to a down-do in 10 minutes or less. Robertson also suggests to all his brunette brides to have their hair softly highlighted, as it can enhance small structural details in an up-do. "It’s important to understand that some hair simply can’t hold a beautiful wave throughout a 10-hour day, and some clients' hair can do that with ease," declared Robertson. a style that you feel beautiful in. A bride's hair should complement her gown, not compete with it. The formality of your dress is key and should dictate the direction you go with the style you choose. For a chic, modern ensemble opt for either a slick back chignon or wear a sleek blowout. For a country wedding, choose loose curls or a loose braid pinned and adorned with a small flower headpiece. Big ball gown style dresses look best with dramatic updos and a noteworthy headpiece. Pairing your perfect hairstyle with your bridesmaids is one of the last elements. Nowadays, it

is traditional to not only incorporate your theme and wedding dress, but the style that you have chosen for your bridesmaids as well. If your hair is styled up, you might opt to have your bridesmaids wear long waves or loosely secure one side back with a small brooch or pin. Not only looking but feeling her best is essential for every bride on her wedding day. Each element should come together to make your fairy tale wedding one of the most memorable days of your life for you and your groom.

Usa Spring always brings with it a craving for something new, a breath of fresh air. So our spring 2015 Vision feature is brimming with fresh and frivolous inspiration that often begins with the classics. But add some color, refine some highlights, change up the style, work in some texture and...voilà !... a new mood, a different persona. These collections range from casual to kinky, but the element they have in common is their capability to convey an individualistic sense of aesthetics and style. The studio hours of hairstyling, make-up, fashion, lighting, and settings all combine to capture the magic of a single moment, the artist’s vision, so that we may delight in them on these pages.

Fashion Getting straight to the heart. Feel the passion, heeding the throbbing soul. If the eyes are its mirror, we can say the same of hair, which is a lighter and more ethereal outreach. Coiffure becomes a soul language, each hairstyle becomes a mood, a movement of the soul that expresses itself through the canons of fashion.

The soul takes flight. And hair is bound to follow it, growing in volume. A vortex of sugar candy, a crest where punk is merely an iconic reference. Backcombing is the star for sophisticated textures. L’anima vola.

The soul is sometimes passionate, as was Evita Perón. A celebration of feminine courage that hair fashion translates into heroic updos, seductive and resistant sculptures. For true leaders. L’anima a volte è pasionaria, proprio come fu Evita Perón. A non-conformist soul knows how to stand out. And its image know how to reflect the difference. A frayed short length and bold cut are transformed into avante-garde if metal hairpins replace the curls. Short, but surprising. Corto a sorpresa.

FHI Heat spokesperson, hairstylist, baseball player... Is there anything Gregory Patterson can't do? Here are some things you need to know.

100 interview

s the FHI Heat spokesperson, celebrity stylist Gregory Patterson has promoted the brand in various media outlets and has been instrumental in educating up and coming stylists. Estetica was able to sit down with Gregory to find out some things you may not know about this hard working hairstylist. How did your collaboration with FHI Heat and Shauky Gulamani begin? You know it was kind of serendipitous. When the brand I was working for was purchased by a much larger company, I opted to take some time off and find some new inspiration. I received a call from a woman who said, “I know this really great brand and I think you would be a perfect fit for them.” When she said it was FHI Heat I was really excited, because I had always been such a fan of their tools and who they are. When we finally met up, I was impressed by Shauky’s innovations and I realized that everything that FHI Heat stands for is very much a part of who I am – not only as a stylist but as a human being, so it was a no brainer. Shauky is one of the greatest innovators of our time. What’s it like working with him? His kindness and humility immediately come to mind. It is really a cool experience being with him, traveling with him, being in meetings with him. He is just the sweetest human being and it is so refreshing, because someone at that level of genius could wear a more arrogant hat. Instead, there is an energy about Shauky that is magical. What's on FHI Heat agenda for this year? Right now our main focus is Shauky’s new creation, STYLUS By FHI Heat. There isn’t anything like it on the market right now, so we intend to demonstrate how fantastic it is and build some steam with that throughout the year. Tell us about your background and career growth in hairdressing. I grew up playing baseball in a ranching town. I never knew that I wanted to do hair until I started working at Banana Republic during college. I would just find myself in front of salons in a mall, watching stylists doing hair, thinking, “Wow!” So I went to hairdressing school. The day

The ideal candidate

President Shauky Gulamani announced the addition of Gregory Patterson as the new FHI Heat spokesperson last September. Shauky said: "We needed someone with exciting, fresh and youthful energy. Gregory’s level of international success along with his creativity and dedication to produce the very best in the hair industry made him the ideal candidate."

I graduated, I packed my car and moved to Los Angeles, where I got a job working with two celebrity hairdressers. I don’t know how the universe brought us together, but a week after beauty school I was assisting them with Britney Spears. It was so crazy. My mentor was a Sassoon educator who encouraged me to further my education and perfect my craft. I started assisting him in San Francisco, gradually growing my own little business in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Arizona. After working with Ted Gibson in New York, I became the Global Creative Director for Blowpro, helping to build their brand nationally and in Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Norway. I’ve had a fun little career. Which hairstylists would you say you idolize? I would say my idols are Serge Normant and Jen Atkin. I go to their Instagram every single day to get some words of wisdom or to see some hairstyles and be inspired by them. They are always on trend and fashion forward. Being inspired by other greats in this industry is so important. Has coming from such a different background given you an original perspective? I am often asked, “How did you become so happy? How did you become so successful?” I’d say it's because happiness is a choice. The reason for my success is because of my hard work and dedication. I always say yes to anything and everything, I can always say no once I get there, but I never shut the door on an experience prior. That mental focus comes from my upbringing on a ranch where you have to get up at 4:00 a.m. and do all your chores. And playing baseball means being a team player, showing up, and pulling your own weight. Such responsibility at a young age conditioned my mind and trained me to be prepared for the job at hand. Tell us about your work with the Charity Water campaign. While working on a television series called, “Marie TV” shortly before my 33rd birthday, I happened to meet Scott Harrison, the creator of Charity Water. He explained the Charity Water birthday pledge campaigns where, instead of receiving gifts, you can ask friends to donate to your birthday campaign. I was turning 33 and the campaign ran for 3 months, so I set what seemed to be an impossible goal of $3,333.33. But by the end of the day I had exceeded $5,000.00! So when Charity Water asked how I had done it, because the average birthday campaign raises only $359.00, that set me on fire. In the end, thanks to the generosity of everyone I know, I raised over $21,000.00 and was able to fund two wells in Ethiopia. It gives me chills just talking about it. I’m going to say this selfishly but

“I stayed true to who I am, finding my niche and only passion, honing my craft”

also selflessly: it is one of the greatest birthdays I’ve experienced in my life – and it was so simple. I just donated my birthday! What is the best advice you have ever got? “Stay true to who you are.” It has always been a motto in my life as a hairdresser. I am not a cool, punk, rock hairdresser. If I tried to be that, I would not be true to my heart and my talent. For years people would say to me, “Oh, are you just a blow drying stylist?” Instead, what I did was find a niche and perfect my craft. I’ve been recognized by Allure Magazine as the best blow dryer in the industry. I’ve had years of television and press coverage. I’ve literally traveled the world doing blow dries. So sure I can cut hair, I style hair, I use to do color – but that’s not my passion. I stayed true to who I am and I didn’t try to become something I was not. What do you love or hate in current trends? Well, I like most all trends to be honest with you. What I’m seeing now, especially at Fashion Week, is everything is so low. Ponytails have dropped and are a lot cleaner. Texture is more of that 90s grunge. I like to call it ‘glam grunge’ because you see it on the red carpet a lot. There is that beachy boho wave, it looks more undone. The technique involved in that is so involved yet it looks effortless. Which celebrity would you like to work with again and a new one you’d like to work with. Instantly Meryl Streep and Edward Norton pop into mind. I’ve worked with Edward Norton quite a bit. He and his wife Shauna are just great people. But I would die to get my hands into Sofia Vergara’s hair! What is down time for you? I really don’t have many days off. To clear my head, I shut everything out. No TV. I’m in a space by myself. I love to walk around New York, just to feel the heartbeat of the sidewalk. I just put on some country music that reminds me of home and who I am. It keeps me grounded. I don’t have time for baseball anymore, but if there is a baseball game on, I’ll watch it for sure.

O

nce you've gotten past the in-salon treatments, cuts, and color services, let's face it. Much of a salon's business amounts to styling: those who rely on their regular blow-out to keep it fresh, or maybe a client is growing out a pixie or bob and is looking for a quick yet versatile change-up for that awkward in-between time. And although most salons will never be coifing a celebrity for the red carpet, requests for especially glamorous looks for proms, weddings, or other special occasions are never lacking. Fashion Week runways are always an amazing source of inspiration for the latest looks, as are Hollywood award ceremonies. And chances are the brand you work with offers all the tips and tricks you need, often with videos or step-by-step techniques, to get a look and even adapt it to your everyday soccer moms or the office crowd, or even the members of whatever urban tribe you may find in your chair and looking back at you in the

KMS California mirror. The initial challenge lies in finding a personalized look for each one. Then it's up to you to find the perfect products to get that look, always with a view to sending them home with some to boost your bottom line when it comes to retail. Estetica went to the experts to ask about the latest trends in hair fashion and the best products to guarantee runway-worthy results

big – and small – nights out

With prom and wedding season just around the corner, spring is the perfect time for salons to market their special occasion styling services. Paul Mitchell has created four distinct looks for the Big Night Out You’re Golden Limited Edition Collection – all of which can be created in your salon. But that's not all! To keep their do looking salon fresh, invite them to take home one of the You’re Golden “Get The Look” glam styling kits inspired by the styles. The collection also features a limited edition rose gold Express Ion Smooth®+, and purse-size Stay Strong® hairspray to touch up your look on-the-go. Hard to resist! But it's not all about glam. Stephanie Kocielski, Paul Mitchell Vice President of Education, believes that today's woman prefers the “done” vs. “undone” look, which can be achieved with quickly crafted

Today's trends call for formal updos, down-dos and everyday-dos that are always soft and every-soslightly dishevelled. Even sleek straight hair should be slightly messy.

braids and waves that add life to any hair texture. However, she warns that “What’s in vogue may not be what your guest envisions. Fashion changes by the minute, and so can your guest's requests.” So don't be afraid to propose something new and have fun with it, as a new do can not only change your guest's appearance, but give her a new outlook on the day ahead! Stephanie is also known for cocktailing products. “One of my favorite go-to product cocktails for clients on the move is a mixture of Paul Mitchell® Super Skinny® Serum with Dry Wash®. It’s the perfect combination to achieve a sleek, yet textured braid.” When it comes to this season's trends, KMS California Artistic Team Director Sonna Brado is seeing lots of strong, shorter shapes with length on top. She is excited about this because it allows for much more versatility in styling and adding texture to the interior shape. She is also excited because it gives her more opportunities to experiment with KMS California Curl Up perfecting lotion with a revolutionary new pressure activated technology that reactivates every time you scrunch your hair! “The client is able to smooth the hair out with their hands or brush for a smaller more compact shape and then scrunch at a later time to create a funky dossier

expanded texture,” she exclaims, “and curls are moisturized and shiny for 3 days.” Indeed, her vision for the future of styling products is the creation of new technologies and ingredients that will make it possible to change the characteristics of the hair itself. “People want the option of wearing different styles and having different hair 'outfits'. And for that you need to change the fabric you are working with,” she explains.

divide and conquer

Regardless of length, cut or style, there are some attributes that seem to cut across the board when it comes to finishes: volume and texture. Goldwell Artistic Team Lead Artistic Director and Global Hair Color Master has no doubts. “Styles range from short to long, straight into wavy, but the one major thing they share is to be full with voluminous finishes.” His go-to product? Goldwell StyleSign Naturally Full. “The support that Goldwell StyleSign Naturally Full offers is to encourage long lasting volume in any blow dry service by providing weightless volume with memory,” he explains, “And it can be used on damp to dry hair for ultimate volume effect.”

Another volume builder, especially for those with thinning hair, can be found in Nioxin DiaMax Advanced, a cosmetic treatment that offers thicker hair and produces more fullness while protecting against breakage. Nioxin Stylist Design Team Member Diane Stevens likes to follow up with Nioxin Bodifying Foam for optimum results in controlling shape and long-lasting style. And remember, texture is not to be confused with frizz and dull. Nowadays, styles call for a slightly dishevelled or “beachy” finish, but always with a healthy shine to it as well. Abraham Sprinkle, Keratin Complex International Creative Team Member describes it as separation and movement. “This always makes a style look more believable and lived in, but not so lived in like in recent years where matte and slight frizz were acceptable,” he distinguishes. UNITE Senior Art Director, Gary Baker, envisions the evolution to soft-layered bobs and long Boho waves to emulate the 70's vibe we're seeing on catwalks. To get these looks he recommends UNITE Texturiza – a multi-purpose styling spray

Everyone is different, so find the product cocktail that works best for you that adds grip and strength as well as texture to the style – and UNITE Elevate – the next generation mousse for great hold, body, shine, and longevity. In the salon, he claims the benefits are two-fold: the hairdresser benefits from the ease of use and flexibility of the products (as well as their performance), which then translates into retail sales. “The client can see how it is used by the stylist and how easy it is to replicate the look at home,” he reminds us. So remember to explain what you are using and how to apply it as you work, then ask if they are interested in purchasing the product to take home.

Flexible, hands-on styling

Always on the cutting-edge of hair styling and known for his rampant creativity is Sebastian Professional Top Artist Anthony Cole, who envisions a mixture of glam styles for 2015, “...but with a touch of messy texture to it,” he predicts. “Even staight hair will have an undone look.” He also has a profound understanding of direct marketing. “A hairdresser's clients are walking advertisements, so the more looks that they are able to create on their own by using a product that gives them flexibility, the more people they will be

1

attracted to their look,” (and your salon) he advises. And the two latest styling and finishing products – Professional Texture Maker and Dry Clean Only – offer a tremendous amount of flexibility, which for the client is really great to be able to manipulate their hair in several different ways. “These products allow the stylists – or clients – to use their hands as their tools and let the products become extensions of their hands, molding all different kinds of shapes on their own.” Revolutionary! In keeping with this individualistic and bespoken approach is Macadamia Professional and their three new oil products that address the specific needs of unique hair types: baby fine to fine, medium to coarse, or very coarse to coiled. Giannandrea, International Creative Director, Macadamia Professional, uses words like soft, textured, romantic, and bouncy to describe this season's trends. “And Macadamia Professional embodies working with your texture, not against it,” he shares. “If you give hair what it needs in terms of moisture and nutrients, it will be beautiful, healthy hair,” he concludes. Überliss Stylist Eytan Ben David also uses RituOil for added shine, volume, and heat protection. As Leonardo Manetti of Ion Studio in New York observes, “Quality styling and finishing products are formulated to facitliate both traditional and current looks, while keeping the condition of the hair at its best.” In brief: keep hair healthy and embrace your natural texture.

When it comes to creating a variety of textures, waves, and curls, we all know that often no amount of wet products alone will suffice. So what are the latest technologies in styling tools? Pepper Pastor, ghd Stylist plugs the new ghd Curve Collection, featuring 2 wands and 2 irons with tri-zone technology perfect for creating those trendy long layers with unexpected textures we saw at recent Victoria's Secret Fashion shows. “Each tool has a different shape,” she explains, “for a variety of looks. You can get very creative and go – with confidence.” And Croc continues breaking new ground with two new tools. The first is the Premium Intelligent Circuit Dryer, capable of picking up on any fluctuations in temperature or air flow and adjusting accordingly. The second is perhaps even more astounding, as the new Green Ion Ultrasonic Iron breaks down the larger molecular structures of conditioners and treatment products for ultimate absorption, healing the hair cuticle and sealing color or conditioner into the hair. What more could stylists want? Well... plenty! Our experts envision such innovations as “products with innovation and memory”, “client-specific hair sprays”, and even “products that have one function on wet hair and another on dry hair, with no residue or clogging”, and "faster drying and heat protection". So dream on! Someone somewhere is working on it!

Modern yet elegant – an airy, bright and cheery setting for Berlin's new professional hairdressing training centre from A.Ewald.

erlin opened its arms this January to embrace a top-class new training centre for hairdressers, where talent and technique are taken in hand and marshalled towards excellent results. The new a.ewald friseurhaus centre was opened amidst a celebratory fanfare, with a glamorous event involving some brilliant hair shows of artistic creativity. The Ewald family company thus laid another milestone in a history of German hairdressing spanning seventy-five years. And the future looks brighter than ever....

A SPECIAL LAUNCH On 23rd January, 2015, the doors opened at a new location in Berlin-Wilmersdorf. Ready to greet the excited guests were the a.ewald friseurhaus International Creative Team, ready and eager to show off the three top professional product brands that have earned them such a strong reputation. The three Artistic Directors representing each brand were on hand for some spectacular

shows, revealing creative fantasy and technical skill – Tom Kroboth for "Me Mademoiselle", Aurelio Ramos for "C:EHKO", and Dominic Belo for Keen. As a special treat, the International Team (under Tom's guidance ) presented the hottest new cuts and colours for the current season, in their Lovelee Welcome collection of practical, easy-to-wear styles. Throughout the evening, the unique features of each brand were demonstrated. The Me Mademoiselle brand is a high-level hair range for dedicated salon professionals who enjoy working and experimenting with their colleagues. The Keen range offers a vibrant palette of hair colours, and haircare and styling products for knock-'emdead results.
