Everman High School January 2016 Volume 1 Issue 10

Bulldog Info Night Last Thursday was a day for beginnings and ends. Not only was the future Bulldog Class of 2020 meeting in the high school cafeteria to discuss high school course selection, but the Everman Academy High School was holding their graduation ceremony for 27 seniors in the high school Commons Area. Seeing as there were two important events taking place at the same time on the same night, the Everman High School Key Club was asked to lend a hand. Sixteen clubbers stayed to volunteer for the event. The students were divided into two groups: one group helped with the 8th grade information meeting and the other group helped out with commencement services for the Academy students. The students at the informational meeting oversaw the food line for students and parents and they answered questions about the high school that the families had for them. This also gave us a great recruiting opportunity. We wore our Key Club tshirts to stand out in the crowd. The other group went to the graduation that was being held in a separate part of the building. They stood at the front doors and directed people to the right event.

January DEC & PCM Congratulations to Nithure Rema, our new Lt. Governor in Division1 South! She was elected earlier this month and will take over as the new Lt. Governor after DCON in late April. This election took place on January 30th at the Ole’ Pancake House in Fort Worth during our DEC/PCM with our respective Division 1 Lt. Governors.

Kiwanis & Key Clubbers! Every now and then it does a clubber good to sit down with your Kiwanis sponsors and just soak in the wisdom that they so willingly share. We had such an opportunity one Saturday morning at the Burleson Golden Corral. Life does not get much better than Kiwanis, Key Club, and the Golden Corral Buffet.

The DEC took place first and Miss Rema ran for the Lt. Governor for D1S unopposed as did the D1N Lt. Governor. Once we finished up with the DEC, we transitioned to our PCM. Lt. Governor Vanessa CastaĂąeda

updated us on all the upcoming deadlines and the events associated with them.

Dr. Wayne English invited both the Everman and Burleson Key Clubs to sit down and have a strategy session as DCON registration has now opened. Both clubs are blessed to be under the leadership of the Burleson Kiwanis, but more specifically, under Dr. English.

After the formal meeting and discussions, all attendees participated in a service project to benefit a local animal shelter. We spent some time making dog chew toys.

Four Everman Key Club Board members were excited hear information from our sponsoring Kiwanis Club. We have been fundraising in anticipation of

our district convention. We were excited to know Everybody who attended had a great time discussing that they have also been fundraising in order to upcoming events, making dog toys, and of course help as many clubbers attend DCON. congratulating our new Lt. Governor Nithure Rema. By the end of our meeting Dr. English invited us to share a wonderful meal with him before leaving. After all, you cannot walk into a Golden Corral and not eat! Thank you Kiwanis and Dr. English!

A Word From… Briana Vu - Editor Hey Guys! Gosh, this year has gone by so fast! In less than a week, our new officers for the 2016-17 year will be elected. While I am sure that everyone running for a position will do great, it is kind of sad for the outgoing officers, like myself. Not only is my term as club editor coming to a close, but in a few short months, I will be graduating from high school and heading off to college! I have loved this club since the moment I joined, and it is going to hurt to have to leave it behind when I walk across the stage on June 1st. I am going to miss everything so much. The meetings, board meetings, service projects, socials, but more than anything, the people I have met through Key Club. Everyone I have met has been amazing. Believer it or not; I am even going to miss the countless hours I spent sitting behind my computer crying and coming to the conclusion that Microsoft Publisher hates and wants me to fail XD as I try to piece together a newsletter. I know its ridiculous of me to be sad when I still have 4 months to go, but I just love Key Club so much and I am going to miss every aspect to it. I wish each of you well and I leave you with a quote from Dead Poet’s Society: “Seize the day, make your lives extraordinary!”

Merlyn Chavarria - Co-Editor Hey Fellow Clubbers!

Editors: Briana Vu and Merlin Chavarria

Key Club Pledge I pledge, on my honor, to uphold the Objects of Key Club International; to build my home, school and community; to serve my nation and God; and combat all forces which tend to undermine these institutions.

Key Club Mission Key Club is an international student-led organization which provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character and develop leadership.

I had the distinct honor of meeting with our sponsoring Kiwanis Club at the Golden Corral in Burleson a few weeks ago and I was excited to hear the plans that they have for the future. Not only did we discuss the upcoming district convention, but Dr. English even bought us lunch! While at the Golden Corral the Kiwanis mentioned that they excited to be able to meet both the Burleson and Everman Key Clubs to discuss DCON and everything related to DCON. I was amazed that 15 Burleson Key Clubbers want to attend DCON. The reason I was stunned was that we have approximately 15 clubbers that want to attend DCON as well! We are a brand new club and we already have as many clubbers interested in DCON as our sister club in Burleson, who has had a key club for years. I was very happy to have attended this meeting with the Kiwanis because we were able to figure out how to solve our transportation dilemma, but I also learned new things about our sponsors as we shared a meal.
