INTRODUCING… THE EDITOR THIS SEGMENT IS TO INTRODUCE YOU (THE MEMBERS) TO US (THE BOARD). REQUESTS WILL BE TAKEN BY EMAIL (CHECK OUT THE EHS CONTACT PAGE!) TO DETERMINE WHICH BOARD MEMBER YOU WANT TO READ ABOUT NEXT. THIS WEEK’S BOARD MEMBER IS… THE EDITOR IN CHIEF!

HOWDY EVERYONE! My name is Ysela Rodriguez. This is my second year as a Key Club member, and my second year as Editor. How did I end up in my position? Well, at the beginning of my junior year, I decided I wanted to become more involved within my school. So, I snooped around a bit and checked out a few of the clubs on campus. I decided to go the first Key Club meeting because two of my friends, Sarai Serrano and Janeth Rios, were members. After about five minutes into the meeting, I knew I wanted to join. Mr. Castaneda’s explanation of what Key Club is and what it stood for was beautiful to me. I’d always liked helping people, but was never sure how to go about it. Key Club helped me to find my place as a servant of my community. That’s how I became a member. How I became editor is a funny story. See, after the meeting ended, Mr. C mentioned that the Board met every Tuesday. He described the positions that were available. When he described the editor position, he said that he needed someone with well-developed writing skills. As soon as Sarai and Janeth heard this, they both excitedly pointed at me. Mr. C asked if I would consider coming to a Board meeting to learn more. I said why not, and that next

Tuesday, I found myself at the Board meeting. I loved the atmosphere that surrounded the Board. It was one of comradery and fun. I knew that the editor position was destined for me. Mr. C told me that being editor was a difficult position, and he wasn’t lying. But even though it is difficult at times, I wouldn’t give it up. I love doing what I do. As for who I am on a personal level, well, I’m pretty much an open book. I’m a part of the Drumline, the soccer captain for Varsity, and I’m also president of NHS. I love to read. My favorite books are the Harry Potter series. I really like sci-fi movies, my favorite being Avatar (the blue aliens, NOT the airbender). I don’t listen to music all that much, but you can usually catch me listening to either Eminem or video game playlists. My favorite colors are dark blue and hot pink. Even though I say I hate school, I actually love learning new things, especially if it’s about space. And that’s about it! If you ever need a friend or someone to talk to, I’m always available!

REGIONAL TRAINING CONFERENCE

This weekend, May 20th, was the Regional Training Conference. It was an amazing experience to meet fellow Vice Presidents in our region, considering it's my first year as Vice President of Key Club. I learned many new skills to bring home to our club and made so many new friends. We sat and talked a lot about our Key Club problems and figured out ways to solve them. We all came up with new ideas to keep each Key Club strong. We all strive to be the greatest example of what Key Club is, and we are all here to help each other out. We learned about parliamentary procedure and how they all take place. We learned the steps needed in making motions successful. I also learned some things about Key Club I never knew before, like how many members there are all over the world, and different branches of the Kiwanis family. Clarence Manglal talked to us a bit about skills he developed and encourages us to use as Vice Presidents. We all pitched in our individual ideas and had a chat about what we expect for the coming Key Club year. I hope to be an excellent Vice President, and so do they. Clarence created a group chat for us all to stay in contact and I couldn't be more grateful. I feel like we all need some kind of help, and who better to help than people who are in the same shoes. I know I will make mistakes, but with their guidance I have the skills to fix them and not make them again. If there is anything I loved most about the Regional Training Conference, it was getting together with all of the Vice Presidents and MTG Clarence Manglal. I look forward to DCON next year, seeing them all again, and talking about how great we all did. I will strive to be the best I can be so I can help anyone. As a club, we will work together to make ourselves better than before and gain new members as they see that we have a passion for what we do for the community.

~ VALERIE ALMANZA, VICE PRESIDENT

EVERMAN HIGH SCHOOL D1S

OUR NEW BOARD I am the new President of the Everman High School Key Club and I had a vision of a better year for our club. Our board has changed, and our club has been working really hard the past weeks to start off the year efficiently and with strength. One of our main goals as a club is to spread awareness of Key Club throughout the school. We need to make sure students are aware that there is a club in the school that is not like any other ordinary club, but a club that change lives, helps the ones who need it the most and does anything in their power to help their community. This upcoming year, our new board will be put to the test. Our Key Club will know for sure if we are strong group or not. I personally must take leadership in our club and by the looks of it, I am really excited for the new year. Our board is very diverse. We have different people from different cultures in our board and we seem to be getting along really well. Our editor is one of the most important people in our club, and is very dependable. Our webmaster can change our key club page and social activity for the best. The secretary is very intelligent and is willing to do anything to get the job done. Our treasure brings joy to the board even though he is very quiet, he seems to bring laughter out of everyone. Our historian is a great gal who is willing to get the job done whenever you ask her to. Our Vice President is a person who is very determined. I can count on her for anything. When asked for something she will do it right away and she's very dependable. With this upcoming board, I really have high hopes of a better key club year. Last year we moved up three spots, from spot ten to spot seven. I’m hoping to be within the top five next year. With this new board I know we can, and we will. ~ KENNETH GUTIERREZ, PRESIDENT
