miss every model magazine 2014 the final Nineteen carefully selected finalists arrived at The Falcon Hotel on Friday 11th April. Kitted out with three clothing changes they were all there to compete for the Every Model Magazine 2014 coveted title. Known as ‘the heat to beat’ the national title has already seen huge success from previous winners, so tensions ran high amongst the competitors on arrival. Soon after meeting each other and being introduced to the real spirit of the event and friendships fast began forming. This wasn’t just about winning, it was about being involved. Making friends, boosting confidence,

doing good things with good people. What better accolade is there than that? Hair and makeup teams from Every Model Mag and La Belle Boutique & Spa busied themselves fabulously throughout the day. Hair, makeup, nails... Phew! A perfect girly afternoon out. A catwalk routine choreographed by Ruthie D with the ultimate aim of enabling the contestants to relax and enjoy, rather than wince and remember it. Simple but effective and executed perfectly during the evening’s live performance. Guest judges with the difficult task of selecting a

winner were the beautiful Fay Hill, former Miss Every Model Kayleigh Hewitt, Krystal and Karen Karmody and Terry Barratt. Adjudicating this year was Jonathon O’Shea. A huge thank you to the panel for your hard work. With three rounds comprising of a ‘model casting uniform,’ skinny jeans and a plain vest top with killer heels, beachwear and finally evening wear. The girls looked beautiful, elegant, calm and happy. Each contestant was given the chance to speak on stage and finally the winning line up was announced.

body detox

with Mel Wells By Alize Lily Mounter

do you have a healthy lifestyle? “It's about time health was prioritised over 'skinniness'. At the end of the day, we only get given one body so it's of vital importance we start taking care of it now if we want it to serve us well.” – Mel Wells Melissa Wells is television actress and model come yoga teacher, crossfitter, holistic health coach and founder of ‘The Green Goddess Life’. Her mission is to spread the word of how you can adapt to live a plant powered, energised, healthy, happy, active, self loving and empowered Green Goddess lifestyle! Now here’s a woman who dedicates her time to passionately help people achieve better health and happiness. She is a huge believer in all things natural and nourishing for the body, mind and soul. Since starting her work she has inspired and helped coach clients from all walks of life, including various celebrities. Mel strives to educate people on good health, especially young busy women who are used to looking for quick fixes and fad diets. Sound familiar? I had the wonderful opportunity to catch up with the gorgeous Mel and found out for myself that detoxing really can help you achieve a healthier lifestyle and better body – because we all want to feel better when we show more flesh this summer…

Alize Why do you recommend people to detox? Mel Detoxing is very important for us to do on a regular basis, as it allows the digestive system to rest in order to allow the body’s natural cleansing processes to function better. Our bodies are fine-tuned machines! When we are eating the right foods, exercising, and feeling calm, our bodies can be in harmonious balance and run perfectly. Eliminating toxins will make the machine run better, promoting weight-loss, mental clarity and increased energy levels. Mark Hyman, MD, one of my fabulous teachers at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, and author of The Blood Sugar Solution, believes in detoxing regularly to balance blood sugar and hormones, improve digestion, and restore your body’s natural ability to fight off disease. “When our bodies become toxic, it means that our natural method of ushering out metabolic waste from normal human metabolism, environmental pollution, and what has become known as the Standard American Diet (or SAD) has exceeded the threshold for what the body’s innate detoxification system can tolerate. With this toxic load, every system in the human body can become affected. From our head to

our toes and everything in between, toxicity makes us sick!” During a detox, your body will rid itself of the toxins that have built up over time, restoring yourself back to optimum vitality, and making you feel your best again. Alize In particular you offer a 5 day detox and 11 day plant based program what are the benefits of both these programs? Mel The Green Goddess 5-day Detox is a juice and smoothies cleanse - with 3 days of juicing and 2 days of smoothies. The 11-day Plant Power detox is a fully vegan and gluten free detox containing all your meals and snacks for the day, as well as incorporating some fresh vegetable juices and smoothies from the 5-day detox.

Alize How many times do you recommend people to carry out the 5 day detox program in one year? Mel It completely depends on your schedule. I personally like to detox once a season - so once every 3 months on average. But I have some clients who like to do the 5-day detox once every month, which is great! It also depends on your exercise regime - if you are very into fitness and have a grueling workout regime,

Photograph by Jeff Gottlieb, Los Angeles

you are advised to take the first 3 days of the detox off from training.

Alize There are professionals who say a detox can starve your body of vital nutrients it needs, what do you say to these claims? Mel Who? Where? Can I see these claims?) The truth is, in those smoothies and juices you are getting more vitamins and nutrients in just ONE GLASS than most people get in their whole day of food! So just think of all the goodness you're getting in 6 juices a day! Obviously just drinking juices and smoothies all the time and abstaining from solid food is not a sustainable way to eat for a long period of time - but for 5 days it is truly wonderful for the body to do, and as soon as you start you will be feeling the benefits of abundant energy levels, weight loss, more balanced and happier mindset, clearer skin and mental clarity.

Alize During the detox is there anything specifically that the person should/ shouldn't do? Mel I recommend abstaining from heavy workouts on day 1-3 including weights, however you can still exercise lightly e.g. Yoga, running, cycling, etc.

Alize How do you or your clients feel after the detox? Mel Here is my most recent testimonial from Jayne, who just completed the 5-day detox. "Detox complete! I am feeling full of health & vitality & am 8lbs lighter! More than that though I am no longer craving junk food & only want to eat healthy foods that are good for me, which was my reason for doing it."

Alize Are there any famous clients that have completed your detox or that you have helped with your programs? If so, what has been their response to your holistic approach? Mel Helen Flanagan (Coronation St actress and model) is currently on the Golden Goddess 6 month program with me. This is her recent testimonial for the program "I started working with Mel around 4 months ago. What drew me to Mel was that I had recently had a bad break up and my eating patterns were so unhealthy - I was going out nearly every night and drinking a lot because I was just heartbroken. I felt so stressed and unhealthy I would hardly eat then just eat junk when I did. I was desperate for a change.

Though I remained slim, as I had to as an actress and model mentally it was so bad for me. I was short tempered from being constantly hungover and was hardly sleeping. I love social media - Twitter and Instagram and was always very inspired by Mel who was always so positive and looked so healthy and beautiful. I wanted to see if her nutrition plan would work for me and also I knew we would be friends as she is such a lovely person and she understands certain pressures of this industry. I have struggled with my eating since I've been about 16 and have had various eating disorders, so was completely honest with Mel when we started working together. I use The Green Goddess Life as a guideline to keep my health in check, and I love the fact I can speak to Mel and have support whenever I want. She is such a genuinely lovely person, and I am quite emotional so talking to Mel about what's going on in my life I have found really helps keep my eating under control. I am now feeling super slim and toned, and in turn feel great and more confident in photo shoots. I would really recommend Mel. She really got me out of a bad time of not looking after my health and is a beautiful approachable person inside and out."

Alize Does your detox help people lose weight? If so, what is your advice for them to keep the weight off after the detox? Mel Yes you can lose weight effortlessly on the detox, as your body is being cleared out of all the toxins that have built up over time. The weight loss is a natural byproduct of the detox, but is not sustainable unless you stick to a healthy diet following it. After completing the diet, I recommend that you eat a whole foods, plant based diet containing lots of fruits, vegetables, leafy greens, nuts and seeds and some whole grains.

Alize People have claimed to lack energy on other detoxes. How would you recommend people to keep up their energy levels? Mel If you are low on energy it means you are too low on your calories. This is not the case on my detoxes as there are 6 juices each day, then on day 4 and 5 there are 4 smoothies a day. They are all absolutely delicious and very filling. None of my detoxers have noted that they are lacking in energy - in fact it's quite the opposite.

Alize Is there any other general advice you would

JUICE 2x green apples 1x pear 2 handfuls spinach 3 romaine lettuce legs 1 lime 3 sprigs mint 1/2 a cucumber

give to people who want to try a detox or who want to lead a healthier lifestyle? Mel I would recommend cutting out dairy, meat and gluten before you start the detox, so your body is beginning to get used to the lack of animal and wheat products. Try to do this for 4-5 days before you begin. (The 5-day detox contains a full guide on this too).

Just remember detoxing is not a quick fix, it is something to help you kick start a healthier lifestyle. You should follow Mel’s programs carefully and ease your body into and out of the detox. More than anything it helps you notice your own body and how it feels. I promise that you will love your body during your detox – and you will want to keep this feeling after. So continue with clean eating and regular exercising afterwards for a much healthier approach to life! I highly recommend Mel’s ‘Green Goddess’ and ‘St. Tropez’ s juices they are absolutely delicious! So what are you waiting for – go get your body refreshed for summer! hair power style with confidence, quality and at the right price Contemplating a life without hair stylers would be like living without your mobile phone wouldn’t it? How did anyone ever cope without them? It is with that in mind we bring you news of a new set of products available. You upgrade your phone every year don’t you? Of course you do! The same applies to your hair care. Seriously, isn’t it about time you gave your hair product wardrobe a re-vamp? With new products arriving on the market all the time we try and test all of them for you and bring you what we feel to be the best of the best. The ‘copy’ gadgets you see selling for next to nothing in bargain outlets are not a good idea. The price may draw you in to start with, but two weeks later when they snap or stop working...? You need to be confident that the product you buy is safe and comes with a guarantee. Adjustable temperature settings are also a massive plus. The Elie pro straighteners come with all these advantages as well as being more than reasonably

priced. The professional ionic straighteners retail at just £85. They also have a travel set coming in at a fantastic £30 and the cutest ever ‘mini straightener’ at just £20. We love the concept of using a salon professional hair styler at home and being able to take a travel set on holiday or trips away. Day to day you can take your mini stylers for a quick ‘on the go’ re-touch

“Isn’t it about time you gave your hair product wardrobe a re-vamp?” and when you get home for a full on re-style, your main set is always there waiting for you, clean and ready to go. We recommend using heat

protecting styling products and to give yourself a ‘no styling’ day at least once a week, to keep your hair in tip top condition. In conjunction with hair stylers such as the Elie range keeping your hair smooth, straggle free, shiny, bouncy or curly, The Elie Pro ionic straightener is installed with a vibration function that makes it easy to spread hair evenly and work through thick, fine or curly hair types. This is what our testing team have to say about the Elie range... “We really love these products. They are lightweight, slim and of a salon professional standard. After using them our models hair looked and felt gorgeously shiny and soft. The mini pair are such a good idea! Carrying so much stuff around as a stylist can be tough. We will definitely be grabbing ourselves a pair of these for those location shoots with zero room for the likes of us and all our stuff. We love the hair dryer as it’s powerful, effective and gives beautiful results. What more could a woman want eh? “ Every Model Magazine

we love catching up with our good American friends and looking at what the world of modelling looks like across the pond. we wince ever so slightly at the singular ‘l’ in the word modelling, but remain slightly in awe of our catwalk being that of a ‘runway’ in the us. this issue we talk to Rachel Faulkner, a twenty one year old model from Virginia Beach, VA. She is currently single and her career is managed by Stevenson's Modelling Agency.

EM MAG Has modelling always been something you are aware of and aspired to be involved with? RACHEL It wasn't until my time at college that I remotely considered modelling. I was very shy growing up, but once I did a test photoshoot with one of my friends, I was able to develop myself artistically through modelling, and I began to blossom into the person I am today. EM MAG Does anything about the industry make you nervous? RACHEL The unpredictability of the market and jobs makes me wary at times, but it also presents the excitement of the industry. It just proves that at any point in time you can't slack off, and you will get out of this industry what you put into it.

EM MAG When were you first signed? RACHEL I was signed nonexclusively this past summer. I was a free-lance model for about a year and a half before I considered approaching agencies so that I could develop myself as a business woman and test with a number of photographers to prepare myself for submission. EM MAG What kind of modelling work have you done and what are you the most proud of? RACHEL I have undertaken just about every form of modeling: fashion, editorial, commercial, beauty, runway, underwater, parts modelling, and more. I am most proud of my fashion/editorial work because, to me, it is the most rewarding in the sense that I am able to emotionally

connect my art with the audience in order to convey a story. Further, I am also proud of the clients I have built from my commercial work as well. EM MAG Tell us a little about the music video modelling you have done. RACHEL I have modelled and acted in music videos alongside Ricky Martin, Pusha T, Dirty Heads, DJ Khaled, MR and others. Music videos are a lot of fun, but they often require a 12+ hr workday. Most clients want to film the entire music video in a day and many scenes can take place in different parts of a city, at different times of the day, and also require many retakes. The funny part about most "party-type" music videos is that they are filmed at clubs during the day, so they don't interfere with the club's events for that evening. You have to be fully prepared to act like Every Model Magazine

you're a part of the best party you've ever attended while filming at 6 in the morning! EM MAG Do you think height is an issue in the modelling world? RACHEL In the fashion and runway world, yes. Although, it is possible to make a name for yourself if you're under 5'7", being a petite model produces many challenges. Most of the jobs I partake in are ones from building up clients from networking alone because they understand a good image, is a good image, and that will always sell to the customer. EM MAG What about dress size?

RACHEL Not as much as height. There is a bit more leeway, in my opinion, for plus size models (and smaller sized models as well). But, of course, most plus size models are around 5'10" as well. It all boils down to placing and developing yourself in the right market based on your body type and that area's client preference on model type. EM MAG What is your secret beauty tip? RACHEL Only wear makeup if you HAVE to. I try to stay makeup free almost every day unless I have an audition or casting. Also, even if you have oily skin, don't forget to moisturise

EM MAG If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be? RACHEL Australia! Although, I've never been there, it's been on my bucket list for a while. I love the culture, style, animals and, of course, the weather! EM MAG Your all time 'can't live without' thing is...? RACHEL Hot yoga. Fabulous

just the way you are by Sarah Clark

“I was 16, in 1987, when my mum told me I had fat legs

From the very beginning, Every Model Magazine have been stringent advocates of healthy living. We live and work in an industry that has many negative claims made against it for being irresponsible and putting pressure on young minds. Whilst we can’t save the world we can educate and at the top of our list, strive to provide responsible advice. Do please read this inspiring, real and believeable testimony from the gorgeous Sarah Clark. If her words serve as a small piece of wisdom then thank goodness. Because you are all fabulous... just as you are. 38

Every Model Magazine

On the face of it, I’m probably not the sort of person who would write for a modelling magazine. I’m everything the modelling industry tries to avoid; I’m not in my teens or twenties anymore, I’m not conventionally beautiful, and I’m substantially overweight. Ok, in medical terms you’d say I was obese. But before you turn the page, thinking anything a fat woman can say will be of little or no relevance to you as a successful or aspiring model, just stay with me, because I reckon it might. I was 16, in 1987, when my mum told me I had fat legs. I can’t remember the date although I think it was in September. I remember exactly where I was in the house when she suggested I stepped on the scales, in front of her and my dad, and I remember that the dial said 9 stone 10. For an average 5 feet 6 teenage girl, who worked in a chemist shop and was on her feet all day every day, that was pretty normal. I never had aspirations to being a model anyway; I was OK with being average and never thought of myself as especially beautiful. That day changed my life. I started on a series of diets, some more extreme than others, that left me obsessed with food, in a vicious cycle of self-hatred, and fat. Not just a little bit overweight, but after over 20 years of damaging my body by denying myself decent food and trying to force my

normal body to be something it clearly didn’t want to be, over seven stone heavier than I was when I started. So, what does this have to do with you? Well, there’s immense pressure in the modelling industry to be thin. Really thin. Thinner than the other models up for the same jobs as you. The media loves to blast the modelling industry for promoting underweight models and extreme thinness, and it’s even harder for models, when their career depends on being ‘attractive’ to resist the onerous pressure that’s forced onto all women to be thin. I get that. I was never under pressure to be extremely thin. I was pressurised into being thinner than I was, mind you. It’s worse now than it was in the 80s, because back then I can still remember a trashy diet book called “Size 12 in 21 days.” I read a quote when

“Forcing yourself into a body shape that you’re not intended to have naturally will only lead to misery, deprivation, and ultimately weight gain”

I was writing my first book, “Gorgeously Full Fat” where the author of the book, Judith Wills, said that she was talking to a young woman about the book and how bad it was, and the young girl said, “Absolutely. Who’d want to be that fat?” So, I get it. But I also know from first-hand experience that forcing yourself into a body shape that you’re not intended to have naturally will only lead to misery, deprivation, and ultimately weight gain. I also know that accepting your natural body shape, even if it’s a little bit larger than you think it should be, will ultimately make you much happier than the constant merry go round of punishing juice fasts and diets. Being thinner won’t make you happy. It will just make you thinner. You won’t solve all of your body image problems by starving yourself for a couple of weeks on maple syrup and cayenne pepper; you’ll just have body image problems, a few less pounds and be very very hungry. Dieting, as a rule, leads to weight gain. Extreme dieting even more so. Have you ever known anyone try a very low calorie diet? Have you listened to them complain and moan endlessly about hunger pains, weakness, light-headedness and an absolute obsession with food that very often leads them to abandon the diet a couple of weeks in and scoff everything in the fridge? Most people who do manage to lose all the weight find that Every Model Magazine

all or most of it goes back on as soon as they stop the diet. When you’ve deprived your body for that long on chemical swamp juice and sawdust bars, it’s going to go a bit nuts when it’s given real food. Dieting scares your body into thinking there’s a famine, and makes you think about food constantly because it’s the prehistoric way of making sure that you don’t starve if the food gets scarce. After all, if you’re thinking about it all the time, you’re more likely to get a wriggle on and get yourself out there to forage, aren’t you? The honest truth is – you’re a model, you’re already beautiful. People pay to see you in their clothes, their adverts, and representing their brand. You’ve already got what it takes to make people look twice. You don’t need to lose weight. It’s unlikely that you’re going to be in any way overweight or else you wouldn’t be in this profession. Even plus size models aren’t fat by high street standards; they are just bigger than your average fashion model, statuesque and gorgeous. Why do you need to go on an extreme weight loss cleanse or fast to lose excess pounds when in all honesty you’re bloody gorgeous as you are? What you really need is acceptance of your body just the way it is, and the confidence to tell anyone who tries to make you think otherwise exactly where to go. You’ll get far more self-

esteem from being you, being the way you are now and not changing for anyone, than you will if you’re stuck in an endless battle to conform to someone else’s stereotype. Can you imagine anyone telling Cara Delevingne to get her eyebrows waxed? I’m bigger now than is socially ‘acceptable’ but life is good. There’s nothing you can’t do at a bigger size than you can at a small one, in my experience. I have a great social life, I married a lovely man this January, I have my own business, I’ve written a novel, and I go to the gym, parties, even gigs and festivals. Being fat doesn’t mean you have to be miserable. I’m not suggesting for a minute that you stop eating a healthy diet and stuff yourself with lard sandwiches to try and test the theory. There’s a lot of prejudice around being fat

Viva Volutuous is Sarah’s new book and is now available from www. amazon.co.uk as an e-book or paperback, & from Waterstone’s & high street book stores.

– we’re seen as lazy, greedy, a bit thick, ugly, smelly, lacking willpower…It can get exhausting as a fat woman trying to fight that all the time. What I’d say is that being the thinnest is not the be all and end all. Being healthy is good. Being happy in yourself is even better. So my advice; ditch the silly diets, take a long hard look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself you’re fabulous. Just the way you are.

s a retoucher myself, I have airbrushed many celebrities, including some of the most coveted faces. The question I always get asked is, "Does she actually look that amazing in real life?" The truth is retouching isn't just about making someone look perfect, its about perfecting a picture in it's entirety. For top models and celebrities, they honestly do not need a lot of retouching mainly because their wealth entitles them to the best grooming to include facial aesthetics, personal trainers and hair treatments, which as a result makes them the best versions of themselves they can be. But even still, grooming doesn't stop stray hairs from escaping that gorgeous up-do or your legs developing those huge black bruises when you bang your leg. In these cases Photoshop is great because it caters for attention to detail and may seem ridiculous to some but when brands are paying millions for a beauty advertising campaign they do not want their target audience distracted by spots and scratches.

“She doesn’t really look like that, it’s just Photoshop”

The debate to ban retouching continues, but personally I think eradicating Photoshop will only be of detriment to the photography industry. I do believe anyone being paid for their physical appearance should ensure they maintain themselves to a condition that justifies their salaries, however subtle changes to a subject as I mentioned above or moreover, lighting adjustments is justifiable and worthwhile. Though everyone being paid for their services on a photoshoot from a Photographer, to Stylist or Hair and Make-Up Artist should be doing an expert job on set, certain negatives are unavoidable such as a stubborn crease that will not come out of a couture gown but can easily removed in post-production. Afterall, the camera technically doesn't lie but it's still life through a camera lens and so what you and I see in real life will be lost in camera transition but can be brought back to life in Photoshop. The number one argument in favour of banning retouching is the belief that it creates false physical ideals for society to live up to. What people never consider is the affect Photoshop has on celebrities. The truth is, though some play the martyr and go without retouching to make their fans feel better, others who actually do not need airbrushing

have developed a Photoshop insecurity which makes them believe no pictures must go out unairbrushed. It's common for this type of individual to also be partial to cosmetic surgery as it's an aid to maintaining their perfect press persona. I find this pressure just as sad as I do a young girl whom blames gossip mags for her extreme weight loss. The irony is neither the fan or the celebrity are happy with themselves but both are unintentionally causing unhappiness to each other. So my thought is, whilst I totally appreciate how looking at magazines of beautiful people can make us feel disgruntled about our own lumps and bumps, nothing is perfect. Though Photoshop has more than likely exaggerated that 'six-pack' or removed those 'hangover' bags that model really is still that beautiful, but how she feels deep down, we will never know. In my experience I can honestly say, I haven't met one person who is totally happy with themselves, whom given the chance wouldn't change something. We just have to learn to accept that and accept ourselves for all the beautiful qualities we have. What Photoshop doesn't do is create life, a happy family, a loving relationship, a beautiful personality. It's these things which matter more than removing a spot.

Becoming hot and sweaty in the summertime heat is inevitable and makeup sliding off your face throughout the day is not a good look. Primer acts as a skin binding layer to hold your foundation in place. Most primers contain silicone which is the main product that holds it all together. I love the primer range from Stila. They have 3 primers to choose from, Bronze, illuminating and my favourite, colour correcting This primer contains three colour-correcting brighteners; green neutralises redness and conceals blemishes. Lavender tone counteracts sallow undertones for a vibrant, energised look. Peach tone brightens,

For dehydrated skin or perfect, if you’re going on holiday a definite essential is the Bobbi Brown tinted moisturising balm. With an SPF 25 this will keep you sun safe whilst giving you an incredible glow. Like most Bobbi Brown products it contains natural ingredients such as Glycerin, Shea Butter and Squalane, which deeply moisturises the skin; Vitamin A and Carrot Extract, which help reduce the appearance of fine lines

and Angelica Seed and Chamomile Oil, which soothe and calm skin. I cannot live with out this! For a stronger coverage you can layer the balm over your foundation which will give you a dewy finish to your makeup look. I always carry in my kit for shoots my Sleek contour kit. It includes a contour powder for shaping the face, a beautiful blusher to give your face a touch of colour and a highlighter to lighten and give definition and at £9.99 for the compact it's a steal! Tribute to the

STARS With a number of career options available within the modelling industry, one not to be sniffed at is the work of tribute acts. From Marilyn Monroe to Micheal Buble, Every Model Mag meets some of the best of the best. Meet the ‘stars, stars’, Melita Morgan, Jordan Williams and Sarah Rowe. 48

melita morgan as marilyn monroe melita morgan has been an amazing marilyn monroe and madonna tribute act since 1990.

Being in the industry and having a career which has had such longevity I have to be thankful for it. Starting out in tribute lead it to me being a film and tv star in my own right.

I never ever intended to go into lookalike or tribute work, I didn’t even know it was a profession back in the early 90s when I was discovered so to speak. I was first told I looked liked Marilyn Monroe when I was just twelve years old by an elderly gentleman in a pub with my father. He said “You are a haunting image of Norma Jean”, I asked “Who is that?” and he said “Marilyn Monroe.

After the rise of the Blond Ambition tour comments came from people suggesting that I looked liked Madonna, but I still knew nothing about lookalike work. One hot sunny day in 1992, I was leading two thoroughbred mares down a country lane, wearing a cap, jodphurs, no make up, at the end of long day working professionally with horses. A man in car drove past a few times and finally stopped to tell me he was a photographer working for our local paper and about a national competition for a tabloid looking for a British Monroe, in the 30th anniversary of Monroe’s death. I told him I wasn’t interested, but it was my husband, who ultimately twisted my arm to have a go. So I took an offer of a small makeover and photo session with a local photographer and the shots taken were sent to London,. To my amazement I was chosen from 100s of entries and was asked to come to London from a pro photo shoot. The resulting photos appeared in The Sun newspaper. I was still retiscent but my husband encouraged me to swallow my pride and see where it took me. There was a large article of a final ten girls which went to a public phone in to vote for Britain’s Marilyn Monroe. And I I won it outright which was a mind blow to me totally.

50

Every Model Magazine

Before I knew it I had offers from agents in London, film work, shop openings, T.V adverts, all over the world. My job with horses was exchanged for a life being pampered, loved and treated as if I was Marilyn herself, which was very surreal for a very humble Norfolk country girl like myself. The love and adoration I have received the world over as Marilyn is a magical tribute to the great lady herself for the fact that her appeal seems endless. Madonna was added to my repertoire after I won a regional singing competition after performing a Carpenters and Madonna song as myself. People in the audience said I looked like Madonna so I decided to give it a go. I’m a trained dancer, so that was a asset for Madonna lookalike work. This step lead to world travel and starring as Madonna in TV documentaries such as Madonna Wild Angel, TV adverts, decoy work and modelling Madonna’s actual outfits in auctions such as at Sotherby’s in London.

Pictured on this page Top - Melita as Marilyn (a newspaper clipping) Middle - Melita as Marilyn Bottom - Melita as Madonna with Jonathon Ross

I have sung to heads of state, royalty, celebrity parties as both Marilyn and Madonna over the years, but the most amazing turn in my career was when being a lookalike turned me into a film star in my own right.

Following an offer from top American director Harmony Korine to play a troubled women who lived her life as Madonna so it wasn’t actually playing Madonna, so to speak, I starred with Samantha Morton, Diego Luna, James Fox, and Anita Pallenburg, which lead to a listing on the IMDb, and then an offer to act alongside Sir Bob Geldoff in the film I am Bob which gained International film awards. Over the years because of the courage my lookalike work gave me I tried acting other characters in TV dramas such as The Chief, Lovejoy, The Frightners and September Song. I’ve achieved things I never could have dreamt of. As a child I was called the ugly duckling, horse teeth and pizza face. Even my careers teacher told me I was too short and not pretty enough to go into acting and modelling which was a great interest of mine at school. The best thing for me personally to come from my fame is a loud voice around the world for my animal/human rights advocate work, my justice work for penal reform and fighting for the rights of the wrongfully convicted. I think my biggest fame is yet to come. Thankyou Marilyn and Madonna and thank you to Every Model Magazine for your continued support of all aspects of my work.

Jordan WIlliams is 26 years old and lives in Coventry. After auditioning for the X Factor a couple of years ago and being told he sounded very much like the rather gorgeous Micheal Buble, he is now the UK's most successful tribute act. Jordan also boasts the current Mr England title. That along with grafting his way up from club and pub gigs now sees his career performing across the globe. Travelling from America to Mauritius he has also been lucky enough to visit some glorious destinations at the same time as doing the job he loves. We asked Jordan how he feels about his success and working within the tribute sector. He told us, "It means everything to me to have been able to create a career doing what I love. I can now sustain a good lifestyle from my earnings and the doors of opportunity continue to keep opening for me. It's absolutely great." Obviously a good looking lad, we've heard him sing and he is seriously talented. He may not be the double of the Buble looks wise, but he sure can give his vocal chords a run for their money. This summer we caught up with the adorable Ryan and his parents to find out how he has been getting on. Ryan’s parents told us, “We were thrilled when Ryan made the final of Mini Every Model 2013. It was such a great experience, and it was even better when Ryan was offered a contract with Bonnie and Betty as a result

TEN TOP BEAUTY FAILS Words provided by hairtrade.com

if you think your hair and beauty regime is perfect, then you may need to think again...

A new study by professional hair care website www.hairtrade.com has shown that nine out of ten British women admit to making grooming mistakes almost every day. Among the ‘epic fails’ are washing their hair too much, not taking care of finger nails, neglecting necks and forgetting to wash make up brushes. 62

Every Model Magazine

Despite being easy to rectify, many of the women claimed they’d always done things this way so the mistakes became habit. One woman who took part in the study commented, “I always washed my hair every day until about six months ago when my hairdresser told me to stop. I’m now an every other day hair washer w hich not only saves me time in

the morning, but my hair looks a lot healthier too.” Another added, “I’m guilty of never washing my make up brushes. It is the one job I always put off even though it only takes a matter of minutes.”

For more information visit; www.hairtrade.com @hairtrade FB HairTradeStore

The team at Hairtrade.com spoke to focus groups of women aged 25-40. These were the ten most common hair and beauty mistakes... excessive hair washing You may believe that by washing your hair every day you’re keeping it squeaky clean and in top condition. You¹re wrong. Washing your locks so frequently means you strip them of their natural oils and are actually doing more harm than good. This is an easy mistake to put right. Try washing your hair every other day then, over time, stretch it to every three days. You¹ll find your hair looks healthier and you’ll get an extra half hour in bed in the morning.

Applying too much conditioner

not using a heat protector

Most us apply conditioner all over our hair, just as we do with shampoo. The hair at our roots is new, healthier growth, however that at the tips is older and more likely to be damaged. So concentrate on the tips of your hair it will save you conditioner and leave those ends looking better and full of volume.

There really is no excuse for not protecting your hair when you usehairdryers and straighteners most days. Blasting your hair with all that heat without shielding it in someway will leave it dry, frizzy and in poor condition.

“Prevent heat damage and use protection! ”

“Concentrate on conditioning the ends of your hair”

applying foundation before your moisturiser is dry Moisturiser needs time to dry so give it a minute before you start applying your foundation. The creaminess of moisturiser can cause make up to thin out, so if you apply too quickly you’ll get a streaky look.

over-treating and covering spots It’s too easy to apply every spot cream you have to your face as soon as you have a breakout, but don¹t. They work on your skin for hours so make sure you always follow the pack instructions to the letter. Likewise, don’t cake them in make-up. Your skin needs time to breathe.

neglecting your neck

64

As part of your daily skin care routine, do you cleanse and moisturise your neck? Thought not. Don’t stop at your chin, make sure you carry on and take care of the thin, delicate skin on your neck. This area can be prone to sensitivity so it is really Every Model Magazineimportant to look after it.

tying your ponytail in the same place If you always wear your hair up in a tight ponytail, then try not to tie it in exactly the same place every day. It can cause too much tension on the hair and over time can weaken it.

yellow nails plucking eyebrows too close to the mirror If you pluck too close to the mirror you find yourself looking at every hair rather than looking at the overall shape of your eyebrows. This can leave you with thin, uneven brows. Instead use a large mirror and take a couple of steps back so you can see your whole face, not just your eyebrows.

If you love nail art and never leave the house without a new design or colour on your talons, then you could be prone to yellow nails. Constant decoration can change the natural colour of the nails. The answer? Always apply a base coat and this will help prevent the stains.

forgetting to wash make-up brushes It¹s one of those jobs you know you should do but just can’t be bothered. If you fail to give your brushes a good clean then not only will you have mixed colours, you¹re also allowing bacteria to build up. Aim to give your brushes a clean once a week. Every Model Magazine

skin health

The skin is the largest organ of the human body. Most people are not aware of that. Treating one area of skin is helpful, but if you have problem areas it may be that by not keeping your entire body moisturised you are not treating the whole issue. With a huge amount of products available on the market, it is always good to know you can trust some of the long standing creams and moisturisers available. Astral being one of those. It is available from Superdrug at the following MORE than reasonable prices. ‘The handbag 50ml pot’, which is perfect for on-the-go indulgence at a mere £1.52. With all the different uses of Astral, you can afford to get a few 200ml pots and keep one by the bed, one in the bathroom, one by the kitchen sink or any place where Astral might come in handy. At £4.28 you can afford to do that. Or you can opt for a massive 500ml pot at just £8.16 .

Celebrity fans of the product tell us...

Joanna Lumley “I'm thrilled to try all sorts of face firmers and wrinkle-reduction creams, but the one I always come back to is plain, simple Astral cream. I've used it for over 35 years and it just works for me. I also use lashings of Astral moisturiser to take off make-up. I travel everywhere with a little pot of Astral in my bag.”

Amanda Holden “I get sent all sorts of high-

end lotions like Creme de la Mer but the best tip I’ve had is Astral cream. I still love the smell of Astral.” Every Model Magazine

model on the move one of the considered perks of becoming a successful model is the opportunities it can bring to tr avel all over the world.

travel check list Ensure your passport is current. Some countries will not allow you entry if your passport is within 6 months of the expiry date. So be careful with this one! Keep hydrated and try to rest on the plane so you can arrive looking and feeling good. Don’t forget though that you are not permitted to carry bottled water through passport control. You may buy some in duty free on the other side.

As a signed model your travel arrangements will be made by your agency. This will for some assignments require a working visa which must be applied for well in advance of your trip. It is your responsibility however to make sure to find out what you are required to facilitate in preparation for travelling. Discuss this with your agent and always feel free to ask questions if you are unsure. If you are a freelance model, we do not recommend overseas bookings. Even if you are totally sure the people you are dealing with are 100% honest and credible, as an individual you do not hold enough experience, knowledge or indeed INSURANCE to take such a big risk. Be aware that any money your agency spends on 70

flights, accommodation, visa applications, etc may be deducted from your earnings. Your contract with your agent and individual bookings will detail this. If you hold a European Union passport, you have the right to live and work in any country belonging to the European Union; however, other passport holders will have to apply for a work visa to work in the UK and Europe. The United States issues visas specifically for fashion models who wish to work in the country. However, these are only given to 'models of prominence', requiring 12-20 high quality tearsheets to be shown on application. The United States offers some travellers from the UK a Visa Waiver Program, for short business trips, making the process easier.

Make sure you are not carrying any prohibited items in your hand luggage. This could not only cause you travel delays, but if those expensive hair dressing scissors are essential to your stay, it will be too late to put them in your main suitcase by the time they get confiscated! Ensure you have the contact details of the agency in the country you are visiting on you at all times. Carry as much information as possible such as the address of where you will be staying and the details of who you will be working for as Immigration Control will request this information when you arrive. Don’t keep everything on your phone - use a notepad with backup information. Carry a form of ID with you at all times, but leave your passport in a safe place.

could it be possible that your bad mood is down to your lack or choice of food...

Recent research has shown that being in a good mood can make you up to 77% more likely to eat healthily. An upbeat mindset means you’re more likely to be thinking about the future and therefore recognising the longterm benefits of consuming nutritious food. If you’re in a bad mood, you’re more likely to choose foods that have an immediate, indulgent reward. Move away from negative thoughts by talking to friends, listening to music or trying out this natural eating kit. It’s made up of three 10ml flower essences to give a helping hand with diet

and healthy living regimes. You can create your own combination and adapt to suit your changing moods. The essences are alcohol free. Emotional Eating Kit includes the following essences: For self acceptance Crab Apple When you feel unclean or dislike something about yourself, don’t rely on food to make you feel good. Be rational Cherry Plum When you fear you might lose control of your diet.

Knowledge from experience Chestnut Bud When you find yourself repeating the same dieting mistakes, don’t fall into your old bad habits, for example reaching for food when things get tough.

Bach Emotional Eating Kit costs £11.55 and is available from Boots, Holland and Barrett and all good health food and pharmacy stores. For more information, visit www.bachremedies.co.uk
