The title “Northeastern Nevada Museum” implies a few things. It does mean that we have a special place in our hearts, and in our museum, for Elko County and surrounding areas. It does not mean, however, that we only hold interest in the northeast section of the great Silver State. We love all of Nevada and couldn’t be happier to call this state our home. Most of us know how interesting and entertaining northeastern Nevada’s past has been, but how much do we know about the state as a whole? Here are 20 interesting facts about Nevada that makes us extra proud to be Battle Born:

Nevada’s Berlin-Icthyosaur State Park contains the largest known Shonisaurus popularis ichthyosaur fossils. These extinct marine reptiles, which ranged in size from 2 feet to over 50 feet long, swam in the ocean that covered Nevada 225 million years ago during the Triassic Period.

Shrimp consumption in Las Vegas is more than 60,000 pounds per day – higher than the rest of the country combined!

Nevada was the site for the first-ever underground nuclear explosion on September 19th, 1957.

Nevada was the first state to ratify the 15th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which gave African-American men the right to vote, on March 1st, 1869.

The Stratosphere is the tallest, free-standing observation tower in the US and the tallest structure west of the Mississippi River.

Austin, Nevada’s oldest church, St. Augustine, requires the establishment’s bells in the tower to be rung by pulling a rope located in the men’s restroom.

Although legal between 1869 and 1910, gambling was banned in Nevada in October of 1910. Much like the national prohibition on alcohol that soon followed, the law was largely ignored as machines, wheels, and tables simply moved to more discreet locations. On March 19th, 1931, in the midst of the Great Depression, gambling was re-legalized.

Located in a remote desert northwest of Las Vegas, Area 51 was established in 1955 by the Central Intelligence Agency to develop and test covert military projects. One of those projects resulted in the Archangel-12 (A-12) stealth plane, which traveled at speeds of over 2,000 miles an hour and could traverse the continental U.S. in 70 minutes. After only a year in active service, the A-12 was decommissioned in 1968.

Nevada is the only state with an entire museum devoted to the life and times of famous entertainer Liberace.

Camels were used as pack animals in Nevada as late as 1870.

To drive from Los Angeles, CA to Reno, NV, the direction traveled is to the west.

Nevada is the third-largest producer of gold in the world following China and Australia, and supplies 3/4 of all gold mined in the United States.

Las Vegas has more hotel rooms than any other place on earth.

The federal government owns nearly 85 percent of all land within Nevada.

In Tonopah, the young Jack Dempsey was once the bartender and the bouncer at the still popular Mispah Hotel and Casino. Famous lawman and folk hero Wyatt Earp once kept the peace in the town.

Nevada has more mountain ranges than any other state, with its highest point at the 13,145 ft. top of Boundary Peak near the west-central border.

The state’s Highway 50, known as the Loneliest Highway in America, received its name from “Life” Magazine in 1986. There are few road stops in the 287 mile stretch between Ely and Fernley.

Misfits Flats off of Highway 50 near Stagecoach takes its name from the John Huston film. Huston used the privately owned area to film a complicated wild horse round up with Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe, Montgomery Clift and Eli Wallach.

Nevada has about 50,000 miles of paved road, much of it featured in films like Vanishing Point, Breakdown, Rain Man, and Lethal Weapon 4.

Many vegetables and foods are candidates for spiralizing. Choose foods that are firm; avoid juicy items and foods with tough or hard seeds.

Zucchini is the perfect starter vegetable for beginning spiralizers. And, it just happens to be zucchini season. When zucchini is cut in spiral fashion, they’re affectionately known as “zoodles.” We’re not sure if this naming convention works uniformly with other vegetables (squoodles? Caroodles? Beetoodles?), but despite naming conundrums, it’s worth trying a variety of items tot find your favorite spiralized foods.

Italian Zucchini Pasta Salad Makes 3-4 servings :: Time to Prepare: 15 minutes A great summertime salad, you’ll love the antipasto flavors featured in this recipe. While the title has “pasta” in the name, the only noodle in sight is a “zoodle.” Just in time for the peak of zucchini season, spiralizers turn the ubiquitous vegetable into fettucini-like shapes that eagerly soak up the vinaigrette dressing. FOR THE SALAD:

2 medium zucchini 1 cup quartered artichoke hearts, drained and patted dry 6 cherry tomatoes, halved 1/2 cup cubed provolone cheese 3/4 cup diced salami 1/2 small red onion, thinly sliced 1/3 cup quartered black olives For the dressing:

2. Make the dressing. Whisk the ingredients in a small bowl. 3. Pour the dressing over the pasta salad and toss to combine. Refrigerate for at least 15 minutes, until the dressing begins to soften the zucchini. Serve chilled. TIP: The longer this pasta salad marinates in the refrigerator, the deeper the flavors get and the softer the zucchini becomes. If possible, let it sit overnight. Shake it up just before serving.

How to Spiralize There are many brands and models of spiralizers. Choose from a pencil sharpenerstyle or a crank-style. Step 1: Prepare the vegetable or fruit by washing, peeling and trimming as needed. Step 2: Cut the ends of the vegetable perpendicularly to the length of the vegetable to create flat ends for fastening to the cutting tool.

NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION: Serving Size: 2 heaping cups. Calories: 214, Fat: 16 g, Carbohydrates: 10 g, Sodium: 416 mg, Protein 8 g, Sugar: 3 g.

Step 3: [Pencil-sharpener style] Choose the spiralizer end with the desired cutting blade. Insert the vegetable and turn to cut. Or, hold the vegetable firmly and rotate the cutting tool; whichever way is easier for you.

Recipe notes:

Step 4: [Crank Style] Choose the desired blade and insert into the cutting platform. Position the prepped vegetable at the center of the cutting end. Holding the vegetable level, draw in the crank end and impale on the “teeth.” Crank slowly with firm, even pressure.

1. Double, triple or even quadruple the tomatoes – they’re in season now too! 2. Use a handheld mandoline to obtain paper-thin slices of onion. 3. Adjust the red pepper flakes to your liking – we like a little heat and double the amount.

Tips & Techniques for Spiralizing: 1. Choose foods that lend themselves to spiralizing – firm flesh, tender skin. 2. Avoid foods with tough seeds in the center or foods with hollow centers 3. Cut the ends to create a flat bottom; this helps to keep the vegetable straight as it approaches the blade. 4. Practice the technique – don’t be discouraged if at first you don’t succeed; it won’t take long to master the process and become a pro at spiralizing. 5. Rinse the spiralizer blade immediately after using for easy cleaning; the blades are razor sharp - take care while washing; let air dry for safety.

1. Fill a large saucepan halfway with salted water and bring to a boil over high heat. Add the broccoli florets and broccoli noodles. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes or until easily pierced with a fork. Drain and pat dry.

Lemon Garlic Broccoli with Bacon MAKES 4 SERVINGS :: TIME TO PREPARE: 5 MINUTES; TIME TO COOK: 15 MINUTES

Super quick, and super delicious! In just a few minutes, broccoli becomes the best dish on the table! Cut and divide the florets, then spiralize the entire broccoli stalk. It’s a great way to reduce waste and put a whole broccoli to use. After a simple steam, the broccoli are sautéed with a little olive, garlic, lemon, and red pepper flakes. The finished dish is topped with crumbled bacon and grated Parmesan cheese. Broccoli never tasted so good! INGREDIENTS:

3 large broccoli heads with stems (see Tip below) 6 bacon slices 2 tablespoons olive oil

2. Place a large skillet over medium heat and coat with cooking spray. When water flicked onto the skillet sizzles, add the bacon slices in an even layer, working in batches if needed, and cook for 3 minutes per side or until browned and crisp to your liking. Set aside on a paper towel-lined plate to drain. 3. Wipe out the skillet, return it to medium heat, and add the olive oil. When the oil is shimmering, add the broccoli florets, broccoli noodles, and red pepper flakes; season with salt and pepper. Cover and cook for 2 minutes, uncovering occasionally to toss. Add the garlic, lemon juice, and zest; cover and cook for another 5 minutes or until the broccoli is lightly browned. 4. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the cheese. Toss to combine and serve warm. TIP: Slice off the broccoli florets, leaving as little stem as possible, and set aside. Then spiralize the stems using Blade C (spaghetti-like cuts)

Recipe notes: 1. Bake the bacon instead of pan-frying. Using the entire package of bacon, bake at 425 F for 15-20 minutes – perfect, crispy bacon every time! Crumble and keep the extra bacon in the freezer for a salad topping, or another helping of this broccoli dish on another day. 2. Reduce the number of cooking pans: use a broadbased sauté pan to both steam and sauté the broccoli – only one pan to clean! 3. 1. Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. When a bit of water flicked onto the skillet sizzles, add the hoisin sauce, soy sauce, oyster sauce, chili oil, and fish sauce. When the sauces have heated and combined for about 2 minutes, transfer to a bowl.

Thai Drunken Zucchini Noodles with Pork MAKES 2 SERVINGS :: TIME TO PREPARE: 15 MINUTES; TIME TO COOK: 20 MINUTES

When the urge strikes for Asian food flavors, it’s ok to indulge in this lower calorie version, thanks to the spiralized zucchini. The zoodles in this recipe are more like flat pappardelle, or ribbon-like shapes. Thanks to easily accessible sauces, the desirable flavors that typify Asian dishes are quickly whisked together. A few aromatics are added to the browned pork, the ribboned zucchini softened, and the dish is complete in short order. Fabulous flavor!

2. Add the coconut oil to the same skillet over medium heat. When the oil is shimmering, add the pork and sauté, breaking up with a wooden spoon, for 5 minutes or until cooked through and browned. Add the shallots and garlic and cook 2 to 3 minutes more or until the shallots begin to brown. 3. Return the sauce mixture to the skillet and add the bell pepper and scallions. Cook for 1 minute, stirring frequently. Add the zucchini noodles and cook 2 to 3 minutes or until the zucchini noodles soften. Fold in the Thai basil leaves and serve. TIP: Drunken noodles are meant to be spicy, so if you can’t find Thai chili oil, use Sriracha or a chili garlic sauce.

1 tablespoon hoisin sauce 1 tablespoon low-sodium soy sauce 1/2 tablespoon oyster sauce 1 tablespoon Thai chili oil

INGREDIENTS: 8 3/4”-thick slices crusty bread

INGREDIENTS:

6 Tbsp. olive oil, divided, plus more

2 Tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil

Kosher salt, freshly ground pepper

3 Tbsp. pine nuts

2 garlic cloves, thinly sliced

1 1/2 C. crumbled feta (about 7 oz.)

1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes

1/4 C. whole milk

2 15-oz. cans cannellini beans, rinsed

1/4 C. sour cream

1 bunch kale or mustard greens, ribs removed,

3 Tbsp. chopped fresh dill

leaves torn into bite-size pieces

2 garlic cloves, minced

1/2 C. low-sodium vegetable or chicken broth

1/2 tsp. freshly grated lemon zest

1 Tbsp. fresh lemon juice

Thinly sliced watermelon radishes

PREPARATION:

Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Brush bread on both sides with 4 Tbsp. oil total. Working in 2 batches, cook bread, pressing occasionally to help crisp, until golden brown, about 3 minutes per side. Season toast with salt & pepper and set aside. Increase heat to medium-high and heat remaining 2 Tbsp. oil in same skillet. Add garlic and red pepper flakes and cook, stirring, until fragrant, about 30 sec. Add beans and cook, stirring occasionally, until beginning to blister, about 3 min. Using a spoon, lightly mash about half of the beans. Add kale and broth and cook, tossing often, until kale is wilted, about 2 min. Add lemon juice; season with salt & pepper. Serve mixture over toast, drizzled with oil.

PREPARATION:

Heat oil in a small skillet over medium-high heat. Add pine nuts and stir until nuts are golden, 2–3 minutes. Let cool completely. Purée feta, milk, sour cream, dill, garlic, and lemon zest in a food processor until smooth. Scrape dip into a bowl. Scatter pine nuts over, drizzling with any oil from skillet. Serve with watermelon radishes for dipping.

nutcrackers & whitebark pine trees Hiking high into the Ruby Mountains you reach the area known as timberline or subalpine. Above this line there is little tree growth and the plants found there tend to be short and close to the ground. This sub-alpine zone is home to the Whitebark Pine (Pinus albicaulis). At first glance it is very similar to the Limber Pine (Pinus flexilis) which can be found in lower riparian areas and up into the sub-alpine zone. It is their cones that help tell them apart. The cones of the Limber Pine open at maturity and can be found littering the ground beneath the tree. Whitebark Pine cones form on the up-swept tips of branches and remain on the tree unopened. During the fall the cones turn brown and dry out but the seeds still do not fall out even when the wind blows. This is where the Clark’s Nutcrackers come into the picture. These birds will tear into the cones and remove the seeds. When the bird is tearing the brittle scales off the Whitebark’s cones they usually do not break totally off and the seeds do not fall out. This allows the nutcracker to remove numerous seeds from the cone while perched in a single position next to it. When the bird is done only the cob-like core remains and a little pile of loose scales can be found below.

Clark’s Nutcrackers are a year-around resident moving up and down the mountain in search of food. They cache many of the seeds they gather for use in the winter. Studies have shown that an adult bird can carry up to 93 seeds per pouchful. Unlike mammals this is not a cheek pouch but is an extension of their throat cavity. They will fly anywhere from two to twenty miles to cache their seeds in a protected area. Working tirelessly the birds fetch seeds multiple times a day. Even though most of these seeds will be used through the winter and into spring to feed their young there are always some caches that they do not use. Rodents also will often find and utilize these caches. It is the forgotten seeds that are not found and eaten that provide the survival of the White Bark Pine. Some of the uneaten seeds will germinate and provide new growth within the forest thus completing the life cycle of the tree.

Why Do We Vaccinate Our Pets?

Working in a mixed animal practice here in Elko, we have the pleasure to work with multiple different species of animals. As part of our job we are here to educate our clients on the importance of vaccinations and what each vaccination is for. The goal in vaccinating our pets is to prevent them from getting infectious diseases. When we think of pets that need vaccinations we mainly think of our dogs and cats, but our larger animals need vaccinations too. Also, even if your pet is mainly indoors, we still need to vaccinate them routinely. What vaccinations are needed in my dogs and why do they need them? One of the most vital vaccinations is the DHPP vaccination, this includes Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, and most importantly for our location, Parvovirus. Distemper is a contagious virus with no known cure, and is spread via air, through direct or indirect contact. The virus then attacks the respiratory, urogenital, gastrointestinal, and nervous systems. Hepatitis is another virus that causes upper respiratory tract infections. This virus targets the liver, kidneys, eyes and blood vessel cells. This virus is shed in the feces and saliva of the infected dog, and can be shed in the urine up to 6-9 months after being treated. Parainfluenza is one of the viruses that causes “kennel cough” in our dogs. It affects the respiratory system and is spread through direct or indirect contact in the air. Parvovirus is a very important vaccination for us in Elko. Parvo is a highly contagious viral disease that can live in the soil for a very long time. The virus attacks the intestinal tract and the white blood cells of the patient, and also can damage the cardiac muscles in younger patients. Parvo is be transmitted by any person, animal, or object that comes in contact with an infected patients feces. Rabies is the next virus we vaccinate for. It attacks the brain and spinal cord of all mammals. There is NO cure and no treatment for rabies. Also, there is not a test for Rabies in a patient that is still alive; brain tissue of the infected animal is used to diagnose this virus. Bordetella is also a vaccine that we give here in Elko. Bordetella bronchiseptica is a bacteria that is one of the most common ways dogs get respiratory infections such as tracheobronchitis. It is highly contagious and is transmitted through the air or direct contact. Even pets that do not frequently visit a boarding facility should receive this vaccine.

The puppy vaccination series should begin at 6 to 8 weeks of age. Puppies should initially receive the DHPP vaccine, with additional boosters given every 3 weeks until 20 weeks of age. Puppies should receive the Bordetella vaccine around 10 weeks of age, and they should receive a rabies vaccine at 12 – 16 weeks of age. These three vaccinations are the “core” vaccinations that should be given here in Elko. Cats need vaccinated even if they are “only indoors” and never come into contact with other cats. The FRCPC vaccination includes prevention for Feline Panleukopenia, Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, and Chlamydia. Feline Panleukopenia, also known as Feline Distemper, which is a highly contagious viral disease. It can affect any cat at any age, but mostly affects kittens. Feline Rhinotracheitis is the most severe and widespread upper respiratory virus to which cats are susceptible. It is very contagious and is transmitted from cat to cat through sneezing and coughing. Rhinotracheitis can affect cats of any age and usually affects all cats in a household. Though Rhinotracheitis can be treated, cats can remain infective for quite a long time. Calicivirus is another serious upper respiratory infection that often occurs simultaneously with feline Rhinotracheitis. Calicivirus is resistant to disinfectants and is transmitted through other disinfected cats. Feline pneumonitis, otherwise known as “chlamydia”, affects the upper respiratory system, the eyes, and the gastrointestinal system. Chlamydia is transmitted through oral secretions such as sneezing/coughing. The FeLV (feline leukemia) vaccination helps prevent various blood disorders and it can cause cancer. The virus is shed in very high quantities of saliva and nasal secretions, but also in urine, feces, and milk from infected cats.

It’s not an addiction.  “Why are so many visits necessary?”  By the time many people consult our practice, they’ve had their problem for some time. Retraining muscles and ligaments that support the spine takes time. Problem focused care will differ from symptom focused care. Each visit builds on the ones before. Remember, you’re doing the healing, not the chiropractor! Problem focused care or symptom focused care is a choice. How long you decide to benefit from chiropractic care is always up to you. He has been practicing dentistry for about 18 years with previous offices in Pleasant Grove, Utah and Wendover, Utah. Dr. Chamberlain and his wife love living here in Elko and they are here to stay! He recently remodeled and updated his entire office at 2560 Mountain City Highway (next to Papa Murphy’s Pizza) and it really is amazing. California trail interpretive center

j september j It’s back to school time already, but the fun and learning never stop at the California Trail Interpretive Center. Please join us on Sunday, September 5, 2-3:30, for a free concert, “Romancing the West.” Seating is limited. Tickets may be reserved by calling the Trail Center and your seats will be held. On Saturday, September 19, a special guest speaker, Angus Quinlin will present a talk, “Art on the Rocks” from 2-3 p.m. He will discuss petroglyphs and pictographs throughout the Great Basin. Since Fall is beginning to fall, the Trail Center is shifting to our winter hours and days of operation – Wednesday through Sunday, 9-5. Admission is still FREE! Come on out on Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. for our historical programs featuring pioneer skills that would have taken place while on the Trail. Some will be illustrated talks while others are hands on including biscuit making, flint and steel fire starting, beginning crocheting, tomahawk throwing, pioneer kid games and

more! And…chores for the kids – water carrying, clothes washing, and cow pie fetching. There was fun in the evening for all ages – horseshoes, cat’s cradle, hopscotch and others. Threaded Bookmarks

It’s back-to-school for the little ones and for us that means a lot of reading! The kids have reading charts that have to be filled with 20 minutes of reading every day. As big book lovers, this comes as no chore for us. But to make things even more fun, we decided to create a couple of fun lacing bookmarks to accompany our daily ready routine. We started by gathering fiber board from old cereal or cracker boxes and fun, bright contrasting embroidery thread. I created a template for a geometric heart and paper airplane

After printing and cutting out the templates, I punched holes in the points of the design where all the strings would need to lace through. I used a 1/16” hole punch, but a 1/8” would work as well. And if you don’t have either one of these, you could just use the point of a nail and tap into a bit to create the holes. I then used a marker to mark the holes so that it went onto the fiber board. Next, I removed the template and punched holes in the fiber board where the marker points were located. You can have your little ones help with this part–they’ll love it! We then threaded a blunt upholstery needle with embroidery floss and began lacing through the holes, making sure to follow the design from the template. When the design was complete, we tightly tied things off in the back.

Pencil Pouch

AN EASY SOLUTION TO KEEP TRACK OF PENCILS. This is a basic zipper pencil pouch tutorial but the pattern is a super weird shape to account for the cute bow knots at the top and/or bottom. The weird shaped pattern makes it a yardage sucker, but it’s worth it! And you’ll have lots of scraps.

around. When you get to the zipper part it will be a little tricky. Just pull the main pieces out of the way. Leave a 2-4” opening on one of the straight edges to turn later. Now turn it over so the lining is on the bottom and the zipper is facing up. Lay the second main piece on top of the zipper and pin it on. If you have too much fabric, pin a little pleat over the zipper. Sew it on all the way around. Don’t leave any openings. Sew the lining and main pieces together where indicated below. Trim and clip the seam allowance and then turn. The corners will be a little tricky to turn, but you can do it! Push the lining into the bag. Now stitch up the opening you left in the lining with a topstitch or a hand slip stitch. Tie the corners into individual knots or tie two together to make bows. I prefer the bow method.

Stamped Pencils

The construction of this pouch is pretty complicated. I would definitely recommend sewing up a basic zipper pouch before proceeding. It gave me a headache figuring out how to do this, so I hope that these instructions are clear enough!

Materials: free pattern download for the knotted zipper pencil pouch tutorial 3/4 yard main fabric 1/2 yard lining fabric 1/2 yard lightweight interfacing Fuse interfacing to wrong sides of all 4 main and lining pieces. Cut 1 of the main pieces and 1 of the lining pieces in half. I used a rotary cutter to make this easier. Leave the other pieces whole, this is just for the top to insert the zipper. To insert the zipper, lay it face down on one side of the main (gingham) piece. Pin in place and baste. Then put the lining piece on top, face down and sew at 1/4”. Repeat on the other side of the zipper and press when your zipper is inserted. To finish the lining of the pouch, pin the whole lining piece to the lining piece that were just attached to the zipper. Now sew it up all

Instructions Tape off top and bottom of pencils. Spray paint and allow to dry. Use two pieces of tape to secure the pencils to your crafting surface at the bottom and top of it. Dip letter stamps into your gold ink pad, and hammer your message into an edge of the pencil. Set aside to dry.

Junior Balloonist Camp CONTRIBUTED BY DAPHNE MAY

The High Sierra BFA (Balloon Federation of America) Hot Air Balloon Camp was definitely an experience I am never going to forget. Most kids there had already been working with balloons their whole lives and some even had their own balloon! But me, I never touched a hot air balloon in my life… until now. When I arrived, I had no clue what to expect. I didn’t know if I would make any friends, or if I would not like any of the food, I was worried if I would even like ballooning, over all I just was nervous. When I came into a room to check in everyone was giving me hugs and welcoming me! I felt like I belonged! So I felt very safe. All balloonists I met were very bubbly and upbeat people which made my stay even better. I also made friends from all the way across the country! I met a girl from Illinois, Washington, Arizona, and California. So yes, I made friends too. And the food was fantastic! Every morning we get up at 4:00 a.m. which was difficult for me, because I love to sleep in. Waking up was worth every minute! We would drive about half hour or so and launch the balloons. Every kid knew how to set up a balloon, so the first day was very difficult for me. Surprisingly, I was able to get in the swing of things very fast. The mornings to come got easier as I practiced setting up the balloon and taking it down. The propane was also a smell I had to embrace through all of this! I have discovered through this process that ballooning is not easy, but it is

all but the greatest at the end. I liked learning to crew because it taught me great teamwork and strength. Flying in a balloon is so unreal. You feel like you are floating in mid-air (which you are). Hovering in the clouds and to stare down at the ground you see the tiny cars and little people. It is an amazing perspective to look at the world we live in, is right below. I am telling you, if you ever get the chance to ride in a hot air balloon, do not hesitate for a second to say yes. I know so much after going to this camp. I have learned things I have never heard of in my life. I also knew some things about a balloon, so I wasn’t completely clueless I suppose. I used my first fire extinguisher, learned about Propane safety, what a Pibal is used for, most parts of a hot air balloon, terms/sayings ballooners refer to, did weather briefings, and most of all had tons of fun while doing it. We also went to Virginia City. While we were there we took old timer photos and everyone looked so funny. Our bunch of people got along even when we weren’t doing anything balloon related, which was cool to see everyone laughing and having fun. There is not a word to describe this camp. It is so full of life, knowledge, kindness, and fun. I advise you if you get the chance, balloon experience or not, GO TO THE HIGH SIERRA BFA HOT AIR BALLOON CAMP! I guarantee you will love it, just like I did.

Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place using electronic technology. Electronic technology includes devices and equipment such as cell phones, computers, and tablets as well as communication tools including social media sites, text messages, chat, and websites. Examples of cyberbullying include mean text messages or emails, rumors sent by email or posted on social networking sites, and embarrassing pictures, videos, websites, or fake profiles.

Cyberbullying can happen 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and reach a kid even when he or she is alone. It can happen any time of the day or night. Cyberbullying messages and images can be posted anonymously and distributed quickly to a very wide audience. It can be difficult and sometimes impossible to trace the source. Deleting inappropriate or harassing messages, texts, and pictures is extremely difficult after they have been posted or sent.

Kids who are being cyberbullied are often bullied in person as well. Additionally, kids who are cyberbullied have a harder time getting away from the behavior.
