OCD Car-parts

99 Designs Competition

Logo design

The Brief To create a logo for a high quality automotive parts company named OCD car parts. Deliverables A logo and how that can be applied across a range of different materials associated with the brand, i.e. different logo variations and finishes. Concept My concept was to produce a logo that clearly showed that it was a car parts company that, so focusing on a part of a car, the breaks, i did this. The logo is playful but still gives off high quality which is what they asked for in there brief. The colours i selected resemble a high class look and also resemble something that i would think when thinking about a high class style of car.

99 Designs Competition

Logo design

Experience Throughout creating and entering this competition i learned that its very hard to create a logo, despite the simplicity of them they have very hard to portray a whole company in a very small amount of shapes/type. I also found that these competitions on the particular website had designs that were all very similar, as if someone created a logo which was then copied by everyone after it. I think this competition helped because i had 3 days to turn it around so it made me work fast, and although my first logo looked like an already existing logo i HADN’T seen i think it looked good and did exactly what it was supposed to in providing the company with a logo that said what they wanted.

Logo design/Branding

The Brief To create a fast food delivery company logo that contained a bear using the imagery he gave me and then creating other collateral. Deliverables 2 logos that can be used across other material and other printed material. Concept To start i was given a day to use his drawn image to create a vector logo, so i used his guidelines to do this. I then went back to it and created a lot simpler logo that still has the bear on a bike. I also made the colour scheme a lot simpler, using red it gives of fast food but also isn’t too cheap looking. Then i also showed him how it could be applied across a range of different but relevant material he would need.

Logo design/Branding

Experience Throughout this project i learned a lot from working with a client, to start i was given only one day to complete a logo that was always going to look bad from the drawn image i was given, but given more time i really enjoyed designing the logo and putting it across relevant material that he is going to be using and creating the brand image that he could then work with. I also discovered that working with a client can be hard because what they want may not be what i think looks good. Also i discovered clients may offer something but then not stick to that so it gave me an insight into that, so i should be more forward and confident in my own work so i can get a lot out of doing it as well as the client. Not only this but it is something completely different to what i have worked on before which was good to do because it took me out of my comfort zone. I think the final outcome is strong with the 2 logos and then how i have applied that across a range has worked really well, there isn’t much id change accept for maybe next time i would print out the cards to see the physical version.

Talenthouse

Vinyl sleeve design

The Brief To create a vinyl sleeve cover that illustrates the chosen song without using the name of the song. Deliverables A vinyl sleeve cover Concept The inspiration for this cover came from the song Grounds for Divorce by Elbow, the song is about a failed relationship, within the song he mentions giving the woman he loves roses but they were to no avail, this is symbolised by the dead rose, the rose also shows the death in there relationship and the decline of there love. The other design came from different parts of the song that i thought were relevant and then all of them forming a Cocktail for ‘Grounds to Divorce’.

Experience I feel this project was helpful because i was able to turn around the brief quiet fast because i gave myself the weekend to complete it. It also gave me a chance to draw with a pencil which i feel adds a unique aspect to my work or anyone’s work, it then stands out from the rest and is more personal. I think my final outcome for the one shown on the previous page is strong and looks clean and crisp, i also feel it illustrates the song well, but has been done very simply. But this simplicity can mean a number of different things. I think to improve this brief i could have maybe spent more time thinking about background colours and colours for the rose itself and also making the illustrations on the one shown first above more detailed and again with stronger chosen colours.

Dialogue Exhibition

Yoke Leeds

Screenptintable design

The Brief To create a poster that could be layered with another design created by somebody else around the theme of dialogue. Deliverables A screen printable poster design, black and white, PDF format. Concept I firstly created a design by discovering what the different forms of communication had changed from till this century, creating a kind of time-line of different forms of communication. I then decide to create another design, this design is based around the fact that the world has become so small due to communication, we can connect to somebody who is on the other side of the world at the click of a button. Not only this but we can fly to the other side of the world faster than ever before to communicate with somebody, again ‘the shrinking’ of the world. This then formed the concept of have a very large plane and a small world. 13

Screenptintable design

Experience During this project i was able to exhibit my work in a gallery for the first time, not only this but the people who came down to see it were studios and other designers, so it gave me a taste of taking part in a gallery and gave me a chance to talk to other designers. Not only this but we had to take into account that the design was going to be overlapped with something else which was a consideration i had never taken into account before, so working to these strict details was interesting and thought provoking. The brief itself also made me think about communication in another light to what i did before, not just because of my own research and design but also from looking at what other people had done and what there ideas were behind them.

Purdeys

DNAD Brief

Product and Packaging

DISCOVER

The Brief To create a new product that has a natural flavoring and to re brand one of there existing drinks.

B

Deliverables

Vitamins

High In Vitamins

High In Anti Oxidants

1 New product to the Purdeys range, advertisement and a redesign of an existing product. Concept The bottle has been designed so it is easy to grasp but also stands out on the shelf, this then draws in the target audience of on the go busy people. The colours have been used to provide a contrast between the natural energy drink in the ‘natural’ green and then the vibrant orange to give of the feeling of energy and ‘rejuvenation’. The black and white also means it will stand out from the other drinks on the shelf.

To advertise the product there are posters that people look at but don’t initially think Purdeys, they are intrigued by what they are because they are so striking, they then would see the Purdeys product on the shelf within a shop and the product would have been ‘discovered’ by the audience, therefore retaining those same brand values that the Purdeys drink has.

DNAD Brief

Product and Packaging

Experience Doing this brief gave me the experience of entering a design competition that is well known and if i had won it would have given me a lot of exposure. This brief was the first competition i had entered and it gave me an insight to the real world, seeing as if i didn’t meet this deadline then it didn’t matter what happened i wouldn’t win or even be considered, that would be it i would of done all this work for nothing. So it made me be more organised and helped me set deadlines so i was finished before the deadline and didn’t waste all my time for nothing. Also entering the competition gave me the thrill of competition and so i will be entering more to see if can win any. Working with packaging was also something i hadn’t done much of so that was also interesting to do, because through doing that i had to learn how to work with 3D tools on Photoshop and illustrator. I feel this project was successful in terms of the idea behind it and focusing in on my target audience, especially in the sense of advertising the brand. But some things that could have been better were the mock ups of the bottle, so it is more refined. 19

Champneys

YCN Collaborative Brief

Brand and identity

The Brief To attract a younger audience to the Champneys brand. Deliverables A publication with the health benefits of Champneys, posters, flyer’s produced by me and a website and app produced by Ant. Concept Using illustrations of alcohol glasses filled with Champneys products, we hope to show the comparison as an alternative to a night out. Corresponding patterns have been used on the glasses and the products, tying them to the brand. We also created a range of printed material that would show the benefits of going to Champneys focusing in on the health and well being of there spa and the consequence of going out and drinking alcohol.

YCN Collaborative Brief

Brand and identity

Experience The experience i gained from this project was invaluable, having to work with one other person and communicate on a regular basis and also work together on a regular basis was different and enjoyable, It was different in the sense that if i failed so did my partner, this adds pressure on what i did and made. It was also a change from working with a larger group of people, this i thought was better because there was more communication and the work wasn’t so varied which it could be with a larger group. Branding is something i really enjoy doing but i have never done something like this, which is a very feminine brand, so i really enjoyed doing that and being able to flip it on its head and do something that we though as a pair was completely different to what everyone else will have done or thought about doing. This type of collaboration was enjoyable and i feel we produced a strong outcome but we could maybe of stretched ourselves a bit more and produced more. But in terms of my contribution i thought it was strong and worked well.

A problem that could have occurred was if we disagreed on a design or something we wanted to do, but luckily we had no disagreements and so are worked benefited form this..
