As the skin ages, collagen and elastin begin to decrease causing a loss of elasticity and volume. The result can be the appearance of multiple wrinkles, sagging and changes in skin texture. There are differences which distinguish SofWave from HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) equipment. With SofWave, the 7 parallel ultrasound beams are in direct contact with the skin and are less sensitive to its inhomogeneity. The power generated by the applicator is deposited directly into the dermis where the collagen and elastin fibres are located for their activation and renewal. The release of energy is done through an intelligent cooling
system which protects the skin throughout the treatment. This application of energy at 1.5mm directly into the dermis prevents fat atrophy in the subcutaneous tissue. However, with HIFU, the transducers are not in contact with the skin and this creates a high energy focal point at different depths depending on the transducer used, which means that the risk of fat atrophy in the subcutaneous tissue is greater when transducers are used at more than 1.5mm.
