Schoen-rockin’ All The Way To 50! Brady Schoenrock, co-owner of Harpoons on the Bay, all-around good guy and man who rocks a kilt every year at our Burns Supper, turned 50 with a party at the restaurant Sunday. He told us he doesn’t feel as old as he is and hopes he doesn’t look it. EZ head honcho, Jack Wright, never one to coddle, assured Brady (pictured on the left) that he DOES look as old as he is. But he didn’t mean it, Brady! Cool thing about the birthday boy? He’s a Mummer who used to drive a winch-cat up the slopes of Mt Tom ski resort in Massachusetts. Happy birthday and stay cool, big man.

SOME INTERESTING CAPE MAY TRIVIA AND FUN FACTS

Weird Sea Creature

So we don’t tend to think of lobsters as weird. But... the female carries the males sperm around until she decides when to use it. Plus, lobsters, who have teeth in their stomachs, cannibalize one another when food is scarce. They also eat their own shells after molting. Lobsters were once considered the cockroaches of the sea, but it’s now a felony to rob someone else’s lobster pots.

Did You Know?

The Cape May-Lewes Ferry isn’t just a way to cross the Delaware Bay in 80 scenic minutes before an afternoon of shopping in tax-free Rehoboth or sunbathing at, say, the Delaware Seashore State Park (although these ARE great adventures to have). The ferry is also an attraction in its own right. Drive, walk or bike onboard, and enjoy some high-quality pub food and a refreshing cocktail at the outdoor bar. Breathe the salt air, and keep your eyes peeled for leaping dolphins, diving birds or even the spout of a whale. There are themed-cruises as well, featuring live music, wine tastings and more. Those sunset trips? They’re Insta-worthy, for sure.

What We’re Reading

Machines Like Me, Ian McEwan What happens when the robots get a little too real? This novel, about the love triangle between a man, woman and their robot, will have you questioning what it means to be human.

Ramblings From The Editor

E

This week... a guest column by Dan Hume of Sunset Beach on the Kate Smith controversy

ver since the Yankees and Flyers decided to drop Kate Smith, we here at Sunset Beach have been inundated with calls and emails from local and national news outlets, as well as private citizens — all asking, will she continue to be heard at Sunset Beach flag ceremonies? We have also seen how social media brings out the worst in people. People on both sides of the issue have spewed and spouted half-baked proclamations of support or vitriolic derision. If you spend a lot of time on social media or consume the standard news, we seem to live in a world obsessed with outrage, victimhood and faux-intellectual virtue signaling. Here is our response: we will continue to play Kate Smith’s rendition of “God Bless America.” We will not litigate whether Kate Smith was a racist for two songs she sang in the 1930s. We are also not going to defend the lyrics of those songs or why she sang them — or why other people would for that matter. We would never condone that

kind of language or assume it is acceptable. We aren’t going to make a proclamation or judgment on her overall character, worth, or being. That isn’t our prerogative. Our flag ceremony is over 40 years old, and while Kate Smith’s “God Bless America” is a part of that tradition, it is not the reason for it. The reason can be found in cemeteries and mausoleums across the country, in unmarked graves without names, and in US service-member cemeteries on foreign shores. This ceremony has

been and will always be about honoring the veteran whose flag flies, the family of that veteran and honoring all those who have served. This ceremony has and will continue to honor the men and women of our armed forces. The flags that fly here represent the best that our nation has to offer. They represent men and women of various backgrounds who either actually defended us, or were willing to pay the ultimate price. Remember that. Don’t confuse this tradition with blind patriotism. We continue this tradition with the conviction that service matters. This is how we choose to honor that service. You don’t have to honor anyone’s service if you don’t want to. After all, this is a free country, but if you do choose to join us and the families present who are honoring their veteran, don’t come just to hear Kate Smith sing “God Bless America.” Dan Hume is a US Marine Corps veteran and member of the Hume family, who own and operate Sunset Beach

very week, the Exit Zero crew goes for lunch (or dinner or, maybe even on occasion, breakfast) at one of Cape May’s excellent dining establishments. Then we give you the skinny on what we ate, what we talked about (or some of what we talked about), who spat their drink from laughing too hard, who served us, who we bumped into and, you know, the general vibe. The place: The Red Store in Cape May Point. The owner: We chatted with designer Deanna Ebner, who, along with her husband/chef Lucas Manteca, operates the restaurant group, which includes not only the Red Store but Quahogs Seafood Shack in Stone Harbor, the Taco Shop at Cape May Airport and, the latest addition to the mix, Beachwood at the Dunes in Sea Isle City. The romance: California native Deanna met Buenos Aries-born Lucas in Costa Rica. He didn’t speak much English. She didn’t speak much Spanish. But they taught each other on a hammock between surf sessions and fell in love. The vibe: Half restaurant and half general store, plus coffee and homemade pastry counter, this acclaimed Cape May Point spot is quaint and artisanal, airy and delightful. The server: Jamie. She’s got one of the best personalities on the island, and she’s guaranteed to brighten your day. Ask her about her recent three-month stint in Asia. The arrival: 9:16am. The night before, when we ran into Jamie at the Washington Inn, we told her we’d be there at 8:01. She showed us a screenshot of her phone taken at 8:01 to prove we were, in fact, tardy for breakfast (the shame!). The food: We always, always, always order the delectable avocado toast, but we changed it up this time and went for the Latino (eggs, rice and beans, guacamole, home fries, pico de gallo, crema, fried plantains and fried queso fresco on grilled corn tortillas) and the chorizo torta (scratch-made spicy breakfast sausage, roasted poblano peppers, sharp cheddar, tomato, red onion and fresh creama on toasted brioche with Spanish home fries.) Our mouths are watering just thinking about it. The conversation: We talked to Deanna about how the opening of the new place in Sea Isle — the menu is an eclectic mix of fresh, simple items from around the world. We’re excited to check out their wood-burning stove for the grilling of meat and fish. The consensus: The Red Store is red-iculously good. But be on time!

The Exit Zero Filling Station Ambush Come get gas at our place and you might just get lucky!

It’s a pleasant experience getting gas at Exit Zero Filling Station. Our smiling faces, the cool vibe. Now there’s even more reason. This year we are giving away to random drivers a discount to enjoy at one of the top restaurants, stores, salons or activities, courtesy of the fabulous Exit Zero Discount Deck! If you don’t know what this is, you oughta! We also call it Vacation in a Box because it contains 50 great discounts to one of your favorite Cape May places — from $3 off fudge to $15 off dinner. It’s the real deal, and it only costs $20 for the entire pack. This week we bumped into Ralph Brindisi from Telford, PA who was headed to his rental in Cape May Point. We asked him to pick a card from the deck to enjoy. He picked out a $10 discount for Tommy’s Folly. Who would he like to share this with? His wife. Smart man.

Undertow

G

Terry O’Brien’s legendary column... social satire, shameless plugs — and general self-indulgence

reetings from Undertow Central, located here in beautiful, downtown Erma, NJ. I come to you this week from my super hi-tech media console (hunched over my aging laptop, above smelly socks, atop an aching back), plugged into the national media scene (Instagram), pondering the Deeper Meaning of Life after my second viewing of Avengers: Endgame. I mean, where do I go from here? Yeah, yeah, I know, wife and kids and all that, but they’re nowhere near as fulfilling as watching the superheroes I grew up with pound the crap out of the bad guys. Okay, so they’re almost as fulfilling as that, probably more so, in fact. But they all lack the ability to fly, which is a real bummer. Avengers: Endgame is not a perfect movie. Parts of it actively offended my comic book sensibilities. (My bona fides: picked up an issue of Sub-Mariner in 1974. He was fighting Tiger Shark. And it was in spanish as Kennett Square, PA has a large Latino community. And I loved every panel drawn by the mighty John Buscema. Currently about 1,000 Silver

Age Marvel and DC comics reside in my attic slowly disintegrating. They’re also for sale because I’m chronically, broke, but where was I? Oh yeah…) No, it is not perfect. Infinity War had a clearer to follow narrative and didn’t treat any of its core characters like a running joke. But it was an incredibly satisfying conclusion to an 11-year, 22-movie arc, and something my sons and I shared every step of the way, since they were wee lads to now annoying teenagers. (Cathrine slept through half of them, but I appreciate the effort.) I laughed, I cried, several times, actually, and

left both times with a big smile plastered on my stupid face. I loved it 3000. And, with that, I think I’m tapping out of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). Without getting into spoilers (I’m sure there’s three people out there who haven’t seen it yet), Endgame officially closes the book on a few major characters, and the ones coming up behind them just don’t really do it for me (except Spider-Man, he’s awesome). Of course, I say this now, but we’ll see if I have the will to ignore Black Panther 36: T’Challa Goes Shopping. It’s everybody’s favorite time of year: the 17-month presidential campaign! Woo-hoo! Me? I’m voting for the first man, woman or sentient hologram that says, “By the end of my first term there will be an affordable, reliable electric car for every American. And free pizza!” I mean, we put a man on the moon, how hard can it be? The pizza thing, I’m talking about. To the MANY who have asked... I don’t recall exactly what I said to make my wife LEAVE ME IN THE RAIN last week, but I’m

pretty sure I deserved it. Gig #1 This Week: THIS FRIDAY (5/3) O’Brien & Joyce are at The Watering Hull in Stone Harbor (Harbor Square shopping center, upstairs). Owner Maggie Day (sister of Tuesday-Wednesday-John Day of Terry O’ke fame) caught my Billy Joel band at Cabanas a few weeks ago and just HAD to have us, which is totally happening in August, but for now you’ll all have to deal with our acoustic duo, playing all your favorite tunes from 9-12. The time, not the years. I know Stone Harbor is two time zones away, but it would be really great to see some friendly faces at our first gig. Unless you’re as sick of me as I am... Gig #2 This Week: THIS SATURDAY (5/4), The Strangers (said aforementioned Billy Joel tribute) is at Cabanas, 7-11. (Am I using too many parentheses this week?) By now you know what a Billy Joel super-fan I am (and have been since about 1983), but I invite you all to come share in my love for his music. You will never, ever hear anyone sing “Allentown” with as much passion as I do. And that includes Billy Joel. (This is me hoping that someone who knows someone who knows someone who knows Billy Joel reads this and hears me talking shit about Billy and then tells Billy how much shit I been talking and then Billy shows up to play at my gig at which point my life will be complete). Gig #3 This Week: O’Brien & Joyce start our summer residency at the Rusty Nail on Monday the 6th, 430-830, then every other Monday/Sunday into October. Why am I starting to feel dizzy? Also, I’m not gonna lie, I been sipping some (a lot of) vodka over the six hours it takes me to write this stupid thing. I know you read it in, like, five minutes, usually on the can or when you can’t finish our Nine-Letter Word for Magazine Puzzle (crossword), but you should know that a lot of thought went into this. So much thought. Many thought. Such thinking. So where was I? Charles and Amanda

May 2, 2019 Martin are, perhaps, the most loving, decent, perfectly nice and sweet couple that have ever ventured into the Exit Zero Filling Station. They are always very generous with their server and In no way deserve to be made fun in this column. But here we are. I’ve waited on them probably eight times since last August, and EVERY TIME Charles says, “I’m gonna try something different tonight” and EVERY TIME ends up with Mega Tots and the Cray Cray Burger (lobster, caramelized onions, fontina cheese), for which I can hardly blame him. Charles and Amanda are also well over 300 Exit Zero Frequent Filler points, which pays back 7.5% on your restaurant and retail purchases, takes about two minutes to sign-up for, and about two years to accrue any actual benefits. (I kid, you can use your 7.5% at any time; on the fly or let it build, and it actually adds up pretty quickly...) (So many parentheses…) SIBLING RIVALRY OF THE WEEK: Mad Batter bartender (and closet conservative) Matt Reeves stopped in to EZFS the other night to “put air in my tires” exactly, one week after I praised his brother Andrew in these pages. I get it, Matt. I’m the baby of six and also didn’t get enough attention as a child. Your cry for help has not gone unnoticed. I love you and Andrew equally. Here’s a juice box, now go play. (Good thing Matt is such a sweetheart otherwise I’d get a good smack.) After much deliberation and soul searching I have finally come up with a name for my new mutli-tribute band (Beatles, Billy, Bruce, Prince). Ready? (Drumroll please....) The Terry O’Brien Band! Okay, so it’s no Strawberry Alarm Clock or Pussycat Dolls, but I like it. And I will always know where I’m supposed to be when I see it on the marquee. We had our first rehearsal on Sunday and, man, it’s gone be good. Starts Sundays, June 23 at Carney’s. ’Til next week, don’t get caught in The Undertow.

The Old Fogey

A

Ah, those good old Cape May days... by Jackson D’Catur

s of now, that insidious scheme for renting out one’s homes so that near-strangers can murder one in one’s bed is illegal in Cape May. From midnight tonight, Heirbnb is banned. Harsh, yes. But an incident in the seldom-visited North Wing of the D’Catur Mansion has opened my eyes to the danger. I was making a random tour of the house with Young Albert, prior to bedtime (which is at 12.01 am — only a fool enters a new day with eyes shut and jammies on. A new day is like a famed Zulu warrior — best met with eyes open, powder dry and a fast exit planned should things go askance). We do not often patrol the North Wing, as it is dusty and in need of sprucing up. But we like to mix it up, and Albert, emboldened by the recent plan in the colony of Australia, to exterminate millions of feral cats, had decided to start his own city-wide cull, starting with those parts of the mansion that he thought cats might be residing in. So we were following a trail of small footprints in the dust, when I pulled up short.

“Albert,” I cautioned. “I am starting to think these are not feline tracks, but Junior D’Catur ones. Most likely from a distant and weak branch of the family.” Albert stopped and sniffed, and I bent to examine the evidence. “See the oddly small shoe size,” I lectured. “And the fact that the person is wearing tiny deck shoes, with little scuffs to either side suggesting tassels. That can only be a small but adult D’Catur, or one of those insufferable children from Ocean City.” Albert growled in agreement, with a ques-

Find Your Way Back...

tioning tone at the end. “I think you should eat at least one,” I replied. “But not until we have questioned them at length as to why they are skulking in the Mansion.” So we proceeded in silence, and overheard reedy voices. “It’s perfectly legal,” one was wheedling. “Heirbnb terms and conditions state that if you can prove a blood relative status, you can legally stay the night and are free to accelerate the status of your inheritance.” “But I rather like great great great grandpa D’Catur,” another whined back. “His estate is worth several millions,” the first said snidely. “He IS rather old. It would almost be a mercy killing,” the second said. A third chipped in: “He is in his dotage, and scarce knows where he is.” At this stage I spoke, in a stage whisper: “Albert! I thought that there were miscreants in the room. But I think perhaps they are just stray cats.” There was smug giggling, and a trio of meeooow noises. “Over to you, Albert,” was my response.

Catherine Dugan’s guide to getting out there... this week, Feasting on History

ood has long been a way to raise money for charity. When tragedy strikes, communities host spaghetti dinners to help families rebuild. School groups, like cheerleaders and marching bands, sell candy bars to fund trips. The Girl Scouts have been selling cookies since 1917. Large charities host gala dinners, and Historic Cold Spring Village hosts a feast. The 19th Annual Feasting on History is scheduled for May 7 at Naval Air Station Wildwood. A feast is more than a dinner, suggesting both celebration and excess. Sometimes, a feast focuses on one food. A pizza party rarely involves much more than pizza, for example, and a Maryland crab feast involves crabs almost exclusively, served with a cold drink and maybe an ear of corn. Other feasts encourage variety — clams are only one part of a clambake, and Thanksgiving is nothing without the side dishes. Feasting on History falls into this category, offering a chance to sample a bit of lots of different foods from Cape May County’s favorite food trucks and restaurants. In past years, there have been

40 different dishes to sample, including desserts. Local wineries, breweries and distilleries offer beverages, music plays, and hundreds of guests mix and mingle. Feasting on History raises funds for Historic Cold Spring Village, a living history museum which preserves and presents historic buildings on a 20-acre farm. This year, the funds are targeted to the Spicer-Leaming House, a home which once stood near Spicer’s Creek in Lower Township. The house is one of the oldest buildings in the county, dating to the beginning of the 19th century. It was built by the family of Jacob Spicer, a wid-

ower who married a widow named Deborah Leaming. The couple was well connected in Cape May, and their descendants served in prominent positions. The diaries of Aaron Leaming, father and son, and of Jacob Spicer the younger have been useful to historians, offering details of daily life and business. The younger Leaming notes that 8,400 pairs of mittens were sold out of Cape May in 1775, for example, and Spicer notes that “Cape May mitts” were one of the county’s most important export items. Spicer and Leaming represented Cape May County in the New Jersey Assembly and “unified the people of South Jersey in opposition to the British authorities’ policies.” Now, after 40 years on its current site, the Spicer-Leaming house needs significant repairs, and funds raised from Feasting on History will used as matching funds for a Cape May County Open Space Grant. Tickets are $85 per person or $800 for a table of 10. Reserved seating will only be available to tables of 10, so call your friends in advance. Visit hcsv.org for more information. Most people wear business attire.

ARIES You will empty your closet of all the things you’d like to donate. You will drive around with these items in your car for six months before actually making it to the thrift shop. TAURUS You will attend this Saturday’s Coast Guard Community Festival. The commanding officer will not be pleased when you attempt to board the helicopter in character as LT Pete “Maverick” Mitchell. GEMINI After much experimentation, will finally discover the perfect amount of time (one minute, 27 seconds) for popping a bag of popcorn in the microwave. You will wonder whether the default “popcorn” setting on any microwave is accurate, or if this is a grand conspiracy on the part of electronics companies everywhere to undercook your kernels. CANCER You will catch up on old episodes of Billions. You will understand only 60 percent of the plot and what you DO understand will make you feel poor and a loser. LEO You will get the “Pina Colada” song stuck in your head. This will be particularly annoying as you do not, in fact, enjoy getting caught in the rain or making love in the dunes after midnight. VIRGO You will drop by Nauti Spirits for some live music and tasty vodka. You will leave feeling… nauti. LIBRA You will watch the video of Jason Momoa shaving his beard approximately 13.72 consecutive times. You will fall a little more in love with each viewing. SCORPIO You will schedule a surf lesson this summer with Southend Surf Shop. You will prepare to shred the gnar inside the green room, brah. SAGITTARIUS You will set out to spend the weekend paying bills and prepping meals for the week. You will actually spend the weekend plotting a reality dating show featuring all the actors from “Game of Thrones. CAPRICORN You will stop for fresh flowers from the little milk crate on Stimpson Lane. You will pay for them even though no one is looking because you are a good human. AQUARIUS Your dog will eat a bag of flour, one rain boot and the TV remote. You will bring him to Dr Bob Moffatt at Cape May Veterinary Hospital, who will fix him right up. PISCES You will make it your mission to taste-test as many local oysters as possible this summer. Not all heroes wear capes.

The Movie Column By Tom Sims of Cape May Film Society

S

uperheroes may save the good citizens of Metropolis, Gotham and even New York City, but lately they’ve been very busy saving another town: Hollywood. These colorful characters, leaping around in single bounds, have been making money for the studios. Turns out fighting crime and rescuing the planet (sometimes the universe) is big business. Like with any big business, there are rivals. In this case there are two major studios — DC (think Batman and Superman) and Marvel (Iron Man and Spider-Man). The latest superhero to hit the screen is from DC. I won’t get into his formal name because that would easily cause confusion. I will tell you the word that a teenager speaks to be magically transformed into a hero that is almost all grown up. That word is: Shazam! Shazam was created nearly 80 years ago at the beginning of World War II and only two years after the first appearance of the flagship DC comic book hero, Superman. A foster teenager named Billy Batson is magically transported to an underworld lair of an

aging wizard. This old man is the last surviving member of a mythological superpower roundtable. He is weakened and wants to transfer his power to a righteous heir. Billy is the appointed one. Now whenever Billy says the magic word, “Shazam!” lightning strikes down on him and he becomes a powerful superhero. In other iterations of the story on television and comic books, the grown-up hero has the brain power of an adult. In this movie, our adult hero can only think and

act like a teenager. This is one of the better films DC has produced in recent years. Past films have tried to reimagine Batman or Superman in incredibly dark, brooding terms. This could be especially evident of the less successful installments of Man of Steel (2013) and Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016). Two years ago, DC turned the tide a little bit with the release of Wonder Woman, which had a first half that was far better than the second half — but still you could see a change in the tone of their movies. Last year, Aquaman continued to improve the franchise with another more brightly positioned movie. That movie was too long and not very memorable but it was an action-packed fun time. Shazam! brings the entire franchise of DC heroes into a new era of fun and excitement along with storylines that have more depth and creativity. Could DC have captured its groove? It still has a long way to go to catch up to Marvel films that are commanding screens... but it’s trying!

The Answer Lady

T

he Answer Lady invites inquiries from gentle readers on all manner of relationship quandaries, matters of the heart and ethics. If you’d like to send a query, write to info@exitzero. us. Or, simply sit back, enjoy a cup of coffee and contemplate the wisdom herein. Dear Answer Lady My father died recently and left me his farm. The problem is I have a brother and a sister and he did not include them in the will. They currently are not speaking to me. I think my father left me the farm because I would see to it that the land was sold as a working farm or vineyard, not sold for development. We talked about this many times but I never expected him to cut my siblings out completely, although they live at a distance and would not share his wish to see that his farm, which has been in our family for three generations, continue as such. I am quite sure they will sue and I know I need a lawyer, but I was curious as to what you think I should do? — Mixed Blessing Dear Blessing The best thing you can do is to the right thing. Divide the sale of the property equally

Wise answers to perplexing questions

but with compensation for serving as executrix. Now, if they want to hold out for a developer, you may be in for a long court battle — but that costs time and money. And yes, they will hate you forever no matter the resolution. It is important to keep yourself centered as you see this to its end. To that end, go to Bath Time and have them prepare your very own bubble bath concoction — Bubble Gum is particularly fun. Then get a bottle of pinot grigio from Cape Winery and set aside some “oooohhhmmm” time.

Dear Answer Lady My fiancé and I have been engaged for almost two years and still he has not committed to a date. I want to be married. I want to start having a family. I want a home of my own. We have both been living with our parents presumably to save money for all these things. I am quite sure we are sound financially, especially since my father is paying for the wedding and his mother is giving us a down payment for a house. I feel like an ultimatum is brewing in me, but I don’t want to be unreasonable. Do think I should stay silent and patient? — Itching to Tie that Knot Dear Itching The Answer Lady must tell you that if you don’t feel free to talk to your fiancé about setting a date, what hope is there for a dialogue about these other important discussions? As in children, a home et al. Sit the man down to a nice dinner at Harbor View and talk to him. Men often need to be prodded to get it in gear, so stop living in your head and get it off your chest.

Bird Droppings

I

Dispatches from the nation’s birdwatching capital… by Seymore Thanu

was seated in my backyard, sipping my morning Joe, waiting for the muse to inspire. With summer breeders arriving daily, I felt, surely, there would be a bird here to inspire a column. House Wren searching nooks and crannies? Chimney Swifts cutting cookie cutter patterns in the sky? American Robin incubating her clutch of eggs in the dogwood? No, the bird that stole the show was House Sparrow, like many of us, a European immigrant. As I watched, one of these transplants streaked across the yard and snapped a moth out of the air. There are flycatchers that could not have accomplished this. First introduced in 1850 in Brooklyn, these Old World natives found city life much to their liking. Being mostly grain eaters, the little street urchins found a surfeit of grain served up daily by the horses drawing carriages and delivery wagons — droppings are rich in undigested oats. Henry Ford’s marvelous transportation device must have caused a measure of consternation among the new immigrant population, but by the

turn of the century, the “Black-throated Brown” had discovered another reliable food resource. Realizing that processed grain in the form of discarded donuts, pizza crust and breadcrumbs was also grist for the House Sparrow mill, the birds turned to us. As we moved out of the cities and into suburbia, the birds followed. When I was seven, a colony of 20 or so pairs had tucked their messy nests into the ivy covering my neighbor’s chimney. Their incessant chirps and dust-bathing

antics captivated me and still do. Many birders, particularly Purple Martin landlords or bluebird trail maintainers are disdainful of these tough little cavity nesters. I commend you to put your prejudice aside and see these industrious immigrants for what they are, Today House Sparrows are found all across North America, including Mexico and the West Indies. They are as much a fixture on barnyards in the Midwest as inner cities along the Eastern Seaboard. The only habitat they have not yet colonized is Arctic tundra. I have even seen House Sparrows living inside airport terminals and malls where they find shelter and nest space in the rafters and food in the food courts. No native species have been so adaptive. If House Sparrows adopt a subterranean nesting strategy and become migratory, Snow Buntings are going to face some stiff competition. Until then, I’m going to enjoy the House Sparrows that thrive in our town, keep my lawn free of vermin, and keep our town’s resident Cooper’s Hawks fat and happy.

MYSTIC is a handsome, 2 year old boy who arrived at the shelter confused and forlorn. He has blossomed into a dog who loves human companionship and eagerly looks forward to his time outside the kennel. He loves to snuggle with his humans and will even climb into laps if offered! Give this affectionate pup a loving home and adopt!

PRINCE is a labrador retriever and boxer mix who recently came to the shelter as a stray. He is friendly and loves to run freely in the playyard. Prince is healthy and clearly lived with a family, however, there is no history to report whether he lived with children or other pets. Prince appears to be dog friendly and is definitely good with people. Adopt!

SASHA is a loving and playful 5 year old mixbreed pup. She is super unique with one crystal blue eye and one brown eye! She lived with kids and is happy to meet new people, but is not comfortable with other animals living in the household. Although Sasha needs to be the only pet, she walks past other dogs without a fuss. Adopt Sasha today!

BUBBA would love a great retirement home where he can relax, purr, love, eat, sleep and keep you company. Bubba doesn’t have a mean bone in his body so making him great with visitors and grand kids. He is in very good health for an older guy and is very clean. Bubba also doesn’t eat too much so he won’t cost you too much either! Adopt!

BIANCA is a Siamese and snowshoe mix. She’s also a senior princess who will likely have many eager suitors stopping by the shelter. Her vaccinations are up to date, she’s house-trained like a boss, and now all she needs is a good home with a deserving guardian. Think you’re cool enough to care for this hip cat?

LEVI is a beautiful big male, but don’t let that fool you. He is a working male. Levi’s early years were spent outside surviving the rough and tumble ways of the alley cat. Now Levi would like to spend his days lounging in a warm cozy home. So if you’re looking for a hearty male, then come on by and meet Levi. He deserves all the love in the world!
