GOD’S CORNER by Ger trude M. Puelicher n n n

HAVE YOU EVER succumbed to a sense of bewilderment at the rapidity with which disasters seemed to strike? Have you ever felt as though there was no stemming a relentless flood of unhappy, discouraged thinking that was overwhelming you with its intensity? A flood of thinking that unchecked would sweep away all the strength and courage and calm that a firm reliance on the presence and power of God had built up during a lifetime? If you have reached the point where a conscious awareness of God seems to be eluding you, when you are actually struggling to find again the “peace that passeth understanding,” when you are analyzing every thought to see wherein you have failed to meet the demands of an existence that after all is desperately human, suddenly there comes the miracle. It is not a blinding flash of light nor an illuminated scroll. It is nothing dramatic nor sensational. It is a gradual release from heartache and fatigue and concern. It is a slow seeping away of the tension and tautness that were threatening to explode. In its place is a steadying sense of a world that has stopped reeling, of a firmness once more under one’s feet. Peter said, “Love worketh no ill to his neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.” And you will find as all others who willingly opened their hearts and minds to it that love is the miracle, the miracle that heals. The cynic who contends that civilization is degenerating, that the world is a jungle, that humans are animals living a macabre existence has much to learn. You and I know that when trouble comes love is poured forth in a steady, selfless stream from a seemingly endless source. It shows itself in hundreds of little ways, totally unexpected ways from friends, neighbors, associates, acquaintances. And gradually, it heals. Why? Like all profound truths, the answer to sthe “why” is so simple. Love is of God, and as we let ourselves be a transparency for love we are being a transparency for God. And God has never failed to heal. n
