An Introduction Dear potential participants, it’s my greatest honour to announce that the call for Editorial Assitants, Media Team Members, and Jury Members for EYP Sweden’s Regional Sessions of 2019 has officially opened! Our Session in Umeå will be edited by Anait Tsaturyan (AM), and the Jury Team will be led by Luke Moynan (UK). In Eskilstuna it will be edited by Viljar Kjeilen (NO), and the Jury Team will be led by Nika Aghajani (SE). In Gothenburg the Session will be edited by Robin Bucher (FI), and the Jury Team will be led by Selma Ciric (SE). Finally, in Malmö Eike Plahk (DE) will edit the session, and Philip Kardell (DK) will lead the Jury Team. We are both excited and honoured that these wonderful individuals will take part in shaping our sessions. This year we’ve chosen ”the UN Sustainable Development Goals and Agenda 2030” as the overarching theme for the sessions, since we believe that informing young people of the SDGs is of high importance. The Session Specific vision developed by the Head Organisers can be found on the Member’s Platform. In the booklet you will find questions for each role, together with the Team Leaders’ respective vision. All eight Team Leaders have provided unique visions for how they want their teams to operate, so we’re certain that you’ll find something that intrigues you! The applications will be sent in through the Member’s Platform, and they should be submitted on or before 12th of October 23:59 CEST. Officials will not pay any participation fee at EYP Sweden’s Sessions. The selection panels are eagerly awaiting your applications, and wish you the best of luck! Warmly, Joel Hultman, Project coordinator of EYP Sweden

UMEÅ2019

7th Northern Regional Session of EYP Sweden

Head of Jurys Vision With the session focussing on both celebrating our technological success as well as welcoming in a new decade, my vision for the jury team is one of celebration and reflection as well. The scale of the event means that we will have the opportunity to get the know the delegates more closely than perhaps is possible at another event. For the majority of them, this will be their first EYP event, and it is our duty to ensure that the atmosphere of the session is as authentically ‘EYP’ as possible. I want our jury to be as integrated into the session as possible, whilst remaining an open and approachable team, so that the delegates can embrace this new world and thrive in its collaborative environment. When observing, and in line with the session vision, I want us to place particular emphasis on the delegate’s attitudes and experiences. How integrated are they into this experience? Are they growing as a result? These questions are vital for us when we are looking at building the future of 2020 and beyond, and for celebrating the active citizenship we want to witness more and more in the coming years. Furthermore, I envisage that as a consequence of our team’s insightful and constructive work, the jury members themselves will gain benefit, be this an understanding of a topic, or a deeper insight into the type of citizen they want to be. Whether you are an experienced jury member or not, this session will undoubtedly be something from which you will emerge having had the time of your life, having celebrated years of achievement and accomplishment, and having been a part of a team directly impacting the sort of Europe we want to see in 2020 and beyond. If this is of interest to you, come and join me in Umeå!

-Luke Moynan (UK), Head of Jury of the Session

Questions for Jury Member 1. Introduce yourself to the selection panel without mentioning your education or EYP experience. (100) 2. Why do you want to be a part of the jury team at Umea? (200) 3. Describe your vision for the perfect delegate. What is the main criteria you will be looking at when assessing them? (400) 4. Thinking of the traditional selection criteria (teamwork, academics, constructiveness, development etc), which of these is the least important for a jury to consider? (250)

Editress Vision Having started doing EYP Media a bit less than one year ago, I am more than honoured to edit a session myself for the first time. As I am doing something new, I want my future team to step out of their comfort zone as well. Forget everything you have done before! Get crazy and creative! I am looking for 6 motivated and creative individuals to join the Media Team and 1-2 Editorial Assistants to join me in the editorial leadership. The Media Team members do not necessarily have to have previous experience. My main aim as the editor is to provide both the first-timers and more experienced journalists a platform for personal and professional development. The Editorial Assistants should be open and approachable to the journalists prior to and throughout the session. Last but not least, I will do my best to ensure that the Media Team is not only a lens through which the people can observe the session, but rather an inalienable part of it. Good luck with your applications and see you in UmeĂĽ!

-Anait Tsaturyan (AM), Editress of the Session

Questions for Editorial Assistants :

1. If you only could witness 5 minutes of any event that ever happened in history, what would you choose? 2. What is your media experience (both in and outside of EYP)? Provide us with some examples of your previous work that you think is relevant for the selection process. 3. Imagine the Media Team is fully composed of first-timers. What do you think is the first thing they should be taught? 4. What in your opinion is the role of the Editorial Assistant and how can you personally contribute to the work of the Editorial leadership?

Questions for Media Team:

1. If you only could witness 5 minutes of any event that ever happened in history, what would you choose? 2. What was your first creative experience? 3. Why do you think EYP Media is important? 4. Briefly outline a media project you would want to implement during UmeĂĽ 2019.

ESKILSTUNA 2 0 1 9 9th Eastern Regional Session of EYP Sweden

Head of Jurys Vision In many ways the Jury Team follows the same process as the delegates within their committees. We are given a platform to share our ideas and opinions, have a respectful and equal discussion, find common solutions and present a final result. During this session I hope to, alongside my team, work more openly with delegates and clear up any uncertainties of our role at the session. The final verdict of the jury is often quite daunting to delegates and it can at times distract them from the moment they are in. When they notice us listening in on their ideas and arguments, they tense up and wonder if they sounded “smart enough” or if they should have shown more leadership initiative or if their listening ear will be interpreted as silence. EYP is an incredible opportunity for delegates to develop as individuals, I would not wish for any part of that experience to be missed because of the competitive element of our sessions. We are responsible for an appropriate and objective selection during the session – this trust is not to be taken lightly. I am looking for a team that is committed to communicating constructively and openly, participating actively, as well as interacting supportively and respectfully. All to allow this selection process to run its course in the best way possible. My vision for this session is therefore rather simple. -Ensure that the delegates feel comfortable around our team. Join in on team building activities or have a cup of coffee and a chat. Our faces should be familiar ones and our attitude relaxed and approachable. - Communicate openly to delegates the role and routine of our team. At the beginning of the session, we will introduce ourselves to the delegates and let them know what to expect from us. Simple explanations of our work, willing to answer any questions they might have. - Effective and responsible selection work, as individuals and as a team.

-Nika Aghajani (SE), Head of Jury of the Session

Questions for Jury Member: 1. What motivated you to apply to this session? 2. In what way can you contribute to the Jury Team at Eskilstuna and what would you personally like to gain from your participation in this role? 3. What is in your opinion the best way to evaluate delegates during the session, without disturbing the dynamic of the committee? Why? 4. What qualities/abilities would you look for in delegates? Why?

Editors Vision Mission Statement: “Community: Representing togetherness through diversity of representation, aesthetics, and ability.” How are we representing reality today, and why? Technology has improved immensely over the last two decades. Communication has changed from dialogue to some form of oligarchical polylogue, where those with the most representation get even more, and those without it struggle to find their voice. Social media has created and audience of performers, consuming and creating simultaneously. In this background radiation of content, how do we find our voice? And more importantly; why do we need to find our voice? One answer is because we want confirmation, or approval. To see and define ourselves through others, like an artist, defining themselves through the cultural zeitgeist, rather than their own artistic ideals. But this creates a disconnect. The performer gets estranged from their own voice, for they do not truly own it anymore, it is given to the ebb and flow of culture itself. Which is why the media team will focus on nourishing each member’s personal vision for Eskilstuna, anchored in the theme of standing together. While the editorial team will provide expertise and experience for the media team members to use, it will not be our job to editorialize, or homogenize our output, but rather encourage and celebrate the diversity of interpretations and ideas that come from an international team. For this to work, I seek two editorial assistants with previous media experience, either within or outside of EYP, who are both eager to further their own abilities, and help others further theirs. I also seek six media team members with varying levels of experience, who are willing to challenge themselves, and strive towards an unforgettable session, by giving their all in pursuit of quality content. I wish you all the best of luck, and look forward to reading your applications.

-Viljar Kjeilen (NO), Editor of the Session

Which of these three aspects of media could you take responsibility for at Eskilstuna? And how would you implement the theme ”Together We Stand For a United Future” into your management? GOTHENBURG 2 0 1 9

8th Western Regional Session of EYP Sweden Dear All, GĂśteborg 2019 takes place in the same city that my journey within the European Youth Parliament started three years ago. I am thrilled to be back home where it all started and very eager to make this session as significant for the jury team members, and for all participants, as my first session in Gothenburg was to me. I cannot wait to see you all home in Gothenburg!

Head of Jurys Vision My primary vision for the jury team of GĂśteborg 2019 - 8th Western Regional session of EYP Sweden is to incorporate the sessions focus on personal development into finding future EYP members. I want my jurors to keep their eyes open for delegates that they think will develop into future officials with a desire to advance within the organisation. Even more important is my desire to find jurors that are willing to think in new patterns and can see their own potential for personal development in their work. It is crucial for me that the Jury team contributes to creating a safe and comfortable environment for the delegates. I see it as part of our responsibility to facilitate opportunities for the personal development of delegates that we want to see. I want all jury team members to draw from their personal experiences when actively working to build a space where delegates can safely take chances and step outside of their comfort zone. Ultimately, I am looking for jurors who agree with me in wanting to further the vision of the session. I am looking for applicants that are interested in working on the personal development of themselves in order to look for this trait in delegates.

-Selma Ciric (SE) , Head of Jury of the Session

Jury Member Questions: 1. Introduce yourself to the Selection Panel. 2. What measures would you take to ensure that the delegates won’t be intimidated by the competitive aspect of the session and create a safe environment? 3. What criteria do you regard as the most important when assessing delegates, specifically connected to their potential within the organisation and as an active citizen? 4. How would you incorporate the vision of personal development into your work as a jury member?

Editors Vision If you have read anything about the Regional Session of Gothenburg 2019, you will know that the session is putting a hard focus on self-improvement. This concept has actually been very prevelant in this organisation, especially the past few years. And for good reason. Self-improvement is a vital aspect in tackling the massive issues mankind is currently facing, that we discuss in General Assemblies. Self-improvement has however simultaneously become this sort of powerful punchline that we almost take for granted when applying to sessions. Yet when you delve deeper into the concept, it seems to very rapidly become a rather ambious term consisting of many underlying building blocks. As I see it, efficient self-improvement occurs when you put focus into those nuanced building blocks, rather than into self-improvement as a whole. As the Editor of the session and as a facilitator of creative work, the so called building block I will focus on with my media team, is self-discovery. I am a firm believer in stepping out of your comfort zone when you are conducting creative work, since I find that to be a very effective method of finding new ways to express yourself. Whether you want to learn something completely new, or further your knowledge in something you know from before, is up to you. Just as long as you don’t stay in that warm, comfy zone of familiarity. Looking at all of this from a practical point of view however, it can be challenging to actually provide all of this. This is why the media team will function in a so called cluster system. We will form two teams of three media team members and one Editorial Assistant, each group sharing three committees. Normally every committee gets a designated media team member that follows their progress throughout the session. I have found that the challenge in this however is that the media team member and their work can get compromised by the committee since they need to synchronise schedules to a certain degree . The clusters ensure that the three media team members (led by an Editorial Assistant) can plan and execute their projects more flexibly and effectively. Ultimately, and most importantly, this gives them more time for what this session is all about. Self improvement. I thank you for reading this rather long vision. I hope it helped convince you of my interpretation of the media team at the session, and I hope I have intrigued you enough to apply as one of my media team members. For now though, I wish you good luck with your application and I hope you have fun with it. Best regards, -Robin Bucher (FI) Editor of the Session

GOTHENBURG 2 0 1 9

8th Western Regional Session of EYP Sweden

Questions for Editorial Assistants: 1. Welcome to the application process for the position as Editorial Assistant, we are the selection panel and we are beyond excited to have you applying for the session! As to not waste your precious time, let’s start immediately! Firstly we need to get know you a little bit. Please provide the selection panel with a free form introduction of yourself. In your introduction we do however want you to include what your proudest ever purchase was and why. 2. This media team will be using a so called ”cluster system”, the reasoning behind it being added effectivity of the media team. As an Editorial Assistant you will be given the task of managing one of the two clusters. Keeping in mind the Editor’s vision, present two concrete suggestions on how you as the manager of a cluster would conserve an effective and creative environment for the media team members to function and thrive in. 3. As we see it, furthering your sets of skills and expanding your knowledge about various topics can be compared to exploring an ocean. Either you take your boat and enter uncharted waters in hopes of finding completely new places in the world, or you anchor the boat in waters known to you and dive deeper into the area you already have a basic understanding of. Provide the selection panel with an example of: A) A completely new skill within media production you wish to acquire during the session . B) a competence within media production you wish to delve deeper into (links to previous work welcomed but not necessary) during the session. 4. You are surrounded by four mad electrical lions that are all about to attack you. Fortunately you happen to have a sword with you. Unfortunately however, your sword cannot make contact with the lions since it will electrocute and subsequently kill you. Using the sword as a tool, how do you leave this situation unscathed?

Questions for Media Team: 1. INTEREST US Hello and welcome to this application form! We are the selection panel and we will be reading your media team application. Lets not beat around the metaphorical bush and let’s just get into it! Firstly we need to get to know you a little bit better. Though since we receive myriads of applications, and consequently massive time-consuming blocks of texts, we now invite you to introduce yourself in a(ny) creative way. Your imagination is your limit, so let it go berzerk! Poems, photoshop edits, TikToks (gold star if you make this one work), and freestyle raps are just a fraction of all possibilities! Just make sure that the link to your introduction you provide us works! Have fun! 2. INSPIRE US The session theme can be condensed into the sentence ”Path to Potential”, and it is looking to enable the participants of the session to reach new levels of personal development. Thus the hope and goal of the session is that participants embrace positive change, rather than hide from it and through this process become better versions of themselves. Naturally this includes you as well. This is why we now would like for you to give us a rough outline of a media project that uses a methology, form of media, or content that is not your forte. The project does not necessarily have to be something completely new to you. It could just make you scratch your head a few times while working on it. Or maybe make you brainstorm extra long for a new narrative for a video. Or make you calmly count to ten when your software is not doing what you mean for it to do. That is how you progress and learn! And similarly to the first part of the application, let your imagination flow! 3. TELL US In order for self-improvement to occur, one needs to acknowledge, accept and embrace ones own flaws. They are part of why all of us are unique, and subsequently help you be you and your project reflect you! So keeping that in mind, let’s switch the roles. You are now the selection panel. As the selection panel, what would be the reasons for you not to accept yourself onto the media team? 4. SHOW US Do not answer both A and B. A. For people with prior experience in media production: What form of media have you been active with inside or outside of EYP? Please provide the selection panel with a functional link(s) to relevant media project(s). B. For people with no prior media production experience: This session is a prime opportunity to learn a new skill. What form of media would you be interested in learning about and why? Examples including but not limited to photography, video production, graphic design.

MALMĂ–2019

9th Southern Regional Session of EYP Sweden

Head of Jurys Vision Key Challange The Jury team is commonly seen as a separated part of the officials team. Its secretive and elusive nature also adds to a rather negative view from the delegates perspective. No one knows what they do.

Jury Vision We want the jury to actively mingle with the other officials and create more of one officials team instead of three distinct ones. The jury wants to be seen as a vivid part of the team and as approachable for the delegates. Transparency is hereby key.

-Philip Kardell (DK) , Head of Jury of the Session. 1. Which experience and background do you bring with you that enable you to be a qualified and unbiased jury team member? 2. How would you personally ensure that delegates see the jury as supportive and not as daunting throughout the event? 3. Our vision for this session is that the jury plays a more integrated role within the officials team. How would you ensure that the jury is not seen as a separate unit, but more as part of the whole? 4. In 140 characters: Why should we select you?

Editors Vision Session Theme Media for the future. Media for “A greener tomorrow”. The idea of having media campaigns in EYP is frowned upon. But aren’t Media Teams in a way not giant media campaigns working as an advertisement for our organisation? I believe they are and that Malmö can and should be one of the most creative and inspiring campaigns. A Regional Session is a special experience. First time delegates and first time officials gather to find their ways in EYP. Join me & my team to work to welcome delegates to our organisation, for personal development and to be part of a truly sustainable session.
