Dear potential applicant, Thank you for your interest in Malmö 2020. On the 6th of November 2020, numerous amazing and talented people are gathered to attend the 10th Southern Regional Session of EYP Sweden in Malmö, to discuss topics of power of collaboration and the vitality of unity in meeting the eye of the storm. For the session I envision to capture the peculiar global situation we all are in right now in regards to the session theme. As the session theme; “Through thick and thin” and Kaisa’s inspiring words of globalisation, I want to primarily display the diversity that already exists within Sweden’s borders. With that in mind, I want the delegates and all participants to be the center of attention to the media team, as well as the beautiful surroundings of Malmö. For most of the delegates, this may be their first ever experience with EYP Sweden and it is hence vital that all delegates and participants have an amazing time, with images and other media to preserve their ever-lasting memories at an EYP event. So if you’re an experienced journalist or a first time participant, apply and join the team! The session will definitely be a unique opportunity to learn from each other and have a good time. Editors’ Vision We found it easier to define the role of the media team at our first sessions than we do now. Back then we would have said that the teams role was to document the session and provide a different perspective on the session experience and work. Since then, however, we have both seen too many media team projects that do not fall under this description to be able to stick with it. We feel like the framework media teams work in have loosened to the point where it is largely up to individual interpretation. This has some benefits, it gives the editors and media team members more freedom and allows them to be more creative, but we personally feel the output sometimes loses connection to the organisation and the session. For this session we want to try to go back to the definition of a media team we had when we started doing EYP. We want the produced content to be anchored to the work of the rest of the session. Not just so that other participants can feel a connection to the output but also to make sure the media team members can leave the session feeling they contributed something meaningful. For this to work, we seek one editorial assistant with experience either inside or outside the EYP, who is eager to learn and develop. We are also looking for five media team members that does not necessarily need have media experience but are willing to face new challenges and grow as individuals. We are looking forward to reading your applications. Best Regards, Ivar Fagerfjäll and Rebecca Byström, Editors of the 9th Western Regional Session of EYP Sweden.

Media team members have a very concrete and noticeable impact on the session; however, the session also impacts the media team member. How do you see yourself impacting the session and what do you want to gain from attending the session?

For self-improvement to occur, one needs to acknowledge, accept and embrace flaws. As the selection panel, why would you not accept yourself on the team?

This role is very flexible, so the selection panel would like to know how you view your position as editorial assistant on the media team?

Editor’s Vision I believe that EYP media in recent years has developed into a more free flowing form of what it has been before. There are strengths to this form of media but it is not all too uncommon that the EYP part falls off. Being creative and letting be creative is massive asset to media teams but there needs to be a structure or a framework that this creativity follows. This is an aspect of the media team that I will be focusing on in order to bring content that not only fulfills the creative minds behind the work but also brings a certain standard to the media output of the session. It is because of this that I am now looking for 2 editorial assistants who are excited to aid me in stimulating a concrete work process that seeks to catalyse the work of the media team at sessions. Alongside this you will also be given the opportunity to work on a personal project to further develop your creative interests. I am also looking for 6 media team members who are interested in helping me create a session with universal media output that can reach people outside of the session. While experience always is valued, it is not nearly as valuable as a genuine interest in trying to better the way EYP is portrayed externally, and I believe this is a sentiment that is strongly reflected in the application that we have put forth for you! I wish you all the best and good luck in your application writing. Best regards, Robin Bucher
