8th Western Regional Session of EYP Sweden Dear All, GĂśteborg 2019 takes place in the same city that my journey within the European Youth Parliament started three years ago. I am thrilled to be back home where it all started and very eager to make this session as significant for the jury team members, and for all participants, as my first session in Gothenburg was to me. I cannot wait to see you all home in Gothenburg!
Head of Jurys Vision My primary vision for the jury team of GĂśteborg 2019 - 8th Western Regional session of EYP Sweden is to incorporate the sessions focus on personal development into finding future EYP members. I want my jurors to keep their eyes open for delegates that they think will develop into future officials with a desire to advance within the organisation. Even more important is my desire to find jurors that are willing to think in new patterns and can see their own potential for personal development in their work. It is crucial for me that the Jury team contributes to creating a safe and comfortable environment for the delegates. I see it as part of our responsibility to facilitate opportunities for the personal development of delegates that we want to see. I want all jury team members to draw from their personal experiences when actively working to build a space where delegates can safely take chances and step outside of their comfort zone. Ultimately, I am looking for jurors who agree with me in wanting to further the vision of the session. I am looking for applicants that are interested in working on the personal development of themselves in order to look for this trait in delegates.
-Selma Ciric (SE) , Head of Jury of the Session
Jury Member Questions: 1. Introduce yourself to the Selection Panel. 2. What measures would you take to ensure that the delegates won’t be intimidated by the competitive aspect of the session and create a safe environment? 3. What criteria do you regard as the most important when assessing delegates, specifically connected to their potential within the organisation and as an active citizen? 4. How would you incorporate the vision of personal development into your work as a jury member?
Editors Vision If you have read anything about the Regional Session of Gothenburg 2019, you will know that the session is putting a hard focus on self-improvement. This concept has actually been very prevelant in this organisation, especially the past few years. And for good reason. Self-improvement is a vital aspect in tackling the massive issues mankind is currently facing, that we discuss in General Assemblies. Self-improvement has however simultaneously become this sort of powerful punchline that we almost take for granted when applying to sessions. Yet when you delve deeper into the concept, it seems to very rapidly become a rather ambious term consisting of many underlying building blocks. As I see it, efficient self-improvement occurs when you put focus into those nuanced building blocks, rather than into self-improvement as a whole. As the Editor of the session and as a facilitator of creative work, the so called building block I will focus on with my media team, is self-discovery. I am a firm believer in stepping out of your comfort zone when you are conducting creative work, since I find that to be a very effective method of finding new ways to express yourself. Whether you want to learn something completely new, or further your knowledge in something you know from before, is up to you. Just as long as you don’t stay in that warm, comfy zone of familiarity. Looking at all of this from a practical point of view however, it can be challenging to actually provide all of this. This is why the media team will function in a so called cluster system. We will form two teams of three media team members and one Editorial Assistant, each group sharing three committees. Normally every committee gets a designated media team member that follows their progress throughout the session. I have found that the challenge in this however is that the media team member and their work can get compromised by the committee since they need to synchronise schedules to a certain degree . The clusters ensure that the three media team members (led by an Editorial Assistant) can plan and execute their projects more flexibly and effectively. Ultimately, and most importantly, this gives them more time for what this session is all about. Self improvement. I thank you for reading this rather long vision. I hope it helped convince you of my interpretation of the media team at the session, and I hope I have intrigued you enough to apply as one of my media team members. For now though, I wish you good luck with your application and I hope you have fun with it. Best regards, -Robin Bucher (FI) Editor of the Session

8th Western Regional Session of EYP Sweden
Questions for Editorial Assistants: 1. Welcome to the application process for the position as Editorial Assistant, we are the selection panel and we are beyond excited to have you applying for the session! As to not waste your precious time, let’s start immediately! Firstly we need to get know you a little bit. Please provide the selection panel with a free form introduction of yourself. In your introduction we do however want you to include what your proudest ever purchase was and why. 2. This media team will be using a so called ”cluster system”, the reasoning behind it being added effectivity of the media team. As an Editorial Assistant you will be given the task of managing one of the two clusters. Keeping in mind the Editor’s vision, present two concrete suggestions on how you as the manager of a cluster would conserve an effective and creative environment for the media team members to function and thrive in. 3. As we see it, furthering your sets of skills and expanding your knowledge about various topics can be compared to exploring an ocean. Either you take your boat and enter uncharted waters in hopes of finding completely new places in the world, or you anchor the boat in waters known to you and dive deeper into the area you already have a basic understanding of. Provide the selection panel with an example of: A) A completely new skill within media production you wish to acquire during the session . B) a competence within media production you wish to delve deeper into (links to previous work welcomed but not necessary) during the session. 4. You are surrounded by four mad electrical lions that are all about to attack you. Fortunately you happen to have a sword with you. Unfortunately however, your sword cannot make contact with the lions since it will electrocute and subsequently kill you. Using the sword as a tool, how do you leave this situation unscathed?
Questions for Media Team: 1. INTEREST US Hello and welcome to this application form! We are the selection panel and we will be reading your media team application. Lets not beat around the metaphorical bush and let’s just get into it! Firstly we need to get to know you a little bit better. Though since we receive myriads of applications, and consequently massive time-consuming blocks of texts, we now invite you to introduce yourself in a(ny) creative way. Your imagination is your limit, so let it go berzerk! Poems, photoshop edits, TikToks (gold star if you make this one work), and freestyle raps are just a fraction of all possibilities! Just make sure that the link to your introduction you provide us works! Have fun! 2. INSPIRE US The session theme can be condensed into the sentence ”Path to Potential”, and it is looking to enable the participants of the session to reach new levels of personal development. Thus the hope and goal of the session is that participants embrace positive change, rather than hide from it and through this process become better versions of themselves. Naturally this includes you as well. This is why we now would like for you to give us a rough outline of a media project that uses a methology, form of media, or content that is not your forte. The project does not necessarily have to be something completely new to you. It could just make you scratch your head a few times while working on it. Or maybe make you brainstorm extra long for a new narrative for a video. Or make you calmly count to ten when your software is not doing what you mean for it to do. That is how you progress and learn! And similarly to the first part of the application, let your imagination flow! 3. TELL US In order for self-improvement to occur, one needs to acknowledge, accept and embrace ones own flaws. They are part of why all of us are unique, and subsequently help you be you and your project reflect you! So keeping that in mind, let’s switch the roles. You are now the selection panel. As the selection panel, what would be the reasons for you not to accept yourself onto the media team? 4. SHOW US Do not answer both A and B. A. For people with prior experience in media production: What form of media have you been active with inside or outside of EYP? Please provide the selection panel with a functional link(s) to relevant media project(s). B. For people with no prior media production experience: This session is a prime opportunity to learn a new skill. What form of media would you be interested in learning about and why? Examples including but not limited to photography, video production, graphic design.
