There are many other challenges facing the European Union today, but they have all one thing in common; they are possible to solve if we do it together. And that is really quite a hopeful message. The choices that we make now will have a major impact on the future of our union. And this is why it is so crucial that you, you yourselves, that you make your voices heard and that you participate in our democratic processes in the areas that interest you. By taking part in these different activities, the delegates got to contribute to a handful of projects that were being developed by the Media Team of the session, and for that we will be forever grateful.

for the future During the Media Team Event Clàudia, one of the Editorial Assistants, had the pleasure to speak with some of the delegates and ask them about the fruitful discussions that they had been having during the whole day in Committee Work. While talking to them, she was able to hear about their point of view on the reality they are living and facing everyday. She asked them about their feelings about the future and about what they are mostly worried about, and here we collect some of these insightful and necessary reflections and thoughts from the youth of today.

It is important to find a balance between these two areas in order to create more equal relationships. This is important because African countries are growing, so we need to start to communicate and compromise with them as equals. climate talks by laura barry (FI) Climate change is one of the most urgent issues of our generation, and it can be seen in the theme of the National Session of EYP Sweden 2021. Over the past few years, we have seen young leaders such as Greta Thunberg rise and take a stand, creating movements like Fridays For Future. What started as one teenager sitting in front of Swedish parliament has now evolved into a worldwide phenomenon.

In light of this issue, one of the Media Team Members, Laura, asked some of the session participants what they think about climate change.

Gabriel from FEMM, argues that climate change is a major threat to the larger coastal cities of Sweden. Rising sea levels have the potential to wipe cities off the map, so I am very anxious about it.

THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IN HISTORY THAT

everything.

It is a shame that the pandemic struck just as strikes are needed the most, but I think social media is a powerful tool for the movement. For once we are seen as not only children, but children with opinions.

This is the first time in history that the youth has had such a widespread voice. There are so many more young role models to look up to than there were just a few decades ago.

adds Robin, a National Committee representative

Deforestation is a black and white issue for example, as forests hold so much of the net oxygen in the world.

29

The session coincided with Earth Hour 2021, and many participants turned off their lights for an hour in solidarity with the movement. The aim is to raise awareness about climate change.

Whether it’s rising sea levels, cutting down forests for profit or pollution, we as youth have a lot to be anxious about. But there is hope.

If you are wondering what you can do as an individual, a great way to ease in is participating in the climate strikes organised every Friday by Fridays For Future. If you would like to do more, you can watch documentaries and educate yourself (we recommend David Attenborough’s, A Life On Our Planet), cut back on your meat intake, reduce, reuse, and recycle!

As Robin from the National Committee of EYP Sweden pointed out,

shaped storylines by anouck guillot (BE) Right before getting to the final part of the session, a radio show animated by Clàudia Sanchez (ES) & Alina Modrzejewska (PL) took place in one of the General Assembly rooms. For the event, some of the participants of the session had been invited to listen to four officials that were going to get interviewed about their EYP journey: where they started and how they got where they are now. In a room filled with a group of delegates and chairs that had been working very hard to present their resolutions, and in an ambience filled with the clam and satisfaction that comes with coming to the end of the weekend, some music started playing, and the radio show began.

At the very beginning of this issue, if you reader - paid good attention, we already started describing the EYP as an iceberg, and there is so much more than what you see on the surface.

As an attempt to show what lies beyond, Anouck, Enrico, Maja & Sude shared some of their memories and stories that - most probably- changed their lives forever.

golden The chairing this session has been so much fun. Shoutout to the ENVI delegates, the academic team and all the other officials for contributing!

Sude, Chair

This session has a special place in my heart because my first time as a chair was 3 years ago in a Swedish regional. After gaining some more experience in chairing I was really waiting for another Swedish session. Unfortunately many sessions had to be cancelled due to the pandemic, so I am glad that EYP Sweden has held a digital one as well

It was my first digital experience and I am amazed how amazing it was!

Aibike, Delegate

Thank you for this, not only did this give me a greater understandings of how the European Parliament works, but I now understand what it means to speak that language, how to turn ideas into resolutions and how to work the general assembly. The guest speakers inspired me, seeing how respectful and loving the national board is made me want to engage myself further!! I had a lot of fun and this has been more than amazing and you will see more of me for sure. Thank you for everyone who was involved in organising this, I know how much effort it is, You did a fantastic job, hat off to you. it is especially impressive how this was your first digital session you made it interactive and fun and engaging!

I loved every and each one of you, every moment and I'm currently very very veerrrry sad because the session is almost over :"(.
