Paola Palmaro interviews

Makoto Saito

Paola: What do you like to put in evidence and to tell in your photographs?

Makoto Saito: Many of my works contain a lot of unrealistic subjects, but a kind of games-like element that imagines myself what kind of things you imagine from the viewer We Included. There are many discoveries from various people, there is a view that I could not imagine myself, it is very interesting.

Paola: What relationship do you have with surrealism and oneiric universe in your works!

Makoto Saito: I like work of shurular realism, but I am not particularly conscious. As a result, the directionality is so, but it is the first time I have recognized it only after being pointed out by a third party. The stance to my work creation has no concept of the size of things or gravity, and it is reflected in the creation of a work with a free idea.

Paola: Looking through the photographic lens is like having a third eye or it is a door which connects you to all focusing universes turns around your sensibility and experience?

Makoto Saito: In the case of me, shooting is always ended with a prompt decision. Rather, it takes a lot of time at the time of editing. Cameras are just a means to create works and facts in fact they do not have expensive equipment. Since the image is made in the head before entering the shooting, only the shooting along that image is done afterwards.

Paola: What does it mean for you time and space?

Makoto Saito: Time for me is something that has already passed, what will come from now, space is an idea, it interprets sound, wind, color, and so on.

Paola: When you decide to photograph have you already in mind what you want to tell in your works? Your creativity is a data or instinctive process?

Makoto Saito: As I said before, I have been planning what to take for quite some time and it is by no means hit. I think that perhaps it is instinctively judging about creativity.
