The last month of 2024 is here. I can't believe that I am actually writing these words. If you could do a quick recap, what are the memorable moments that pop into your mind? I can say that we have had more pages and more words than ever, since I joined the team four years ago, so I guess that's something worth mentioning – I am quite proud of all the articles, awesome interviews and beautiful pages we put together – well done us!
We were also super pampered and well-fed, thanks to the wonderful partners we had this year. We have tried and tested so many spa treatments in town and on our trips and have eaten in an array of restaurants – yes, we might have one of the best jobs in the world. I hope you enjoyed reading us as much as we had the pleasure of writing our findings for you.
This month, you will find a selection of festive looks to end the year in style – red, green, white, black and sparkles are the way to go!
We delve into the jewellery and watches' universe with new collections and beautiful holiday campaigns that put us in festive mode.
I visited The Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay for a comprehensive facial that left my complexion rejuvenated and with a beautiful glow. Best face forward to start a new year! Who doesn't like a good brunch? We joined Baharat's Friday Brunch at Le Méridien City Centre Bahrain for a seafood feast that included live ceviche and sushi counters – it was great fun, too.
If you are looking for a winter escape, we've selected a few must-visit places for this time of the year. However, if you are looking to start the year with a new machine, check out Audi's Q3 – an SUV like no other.
Happy festive days and a marvellous New Year!

Push PLUSH
On December 21, we officially welcome the winter season. There’s nothing better than choosing a luxurious fabric to celebrate the occasion – we settled on velvet!
The textile is not only spotted in clothing pieces. Aquazzura chose it to cover shoes and handbags for an eyecatching detail. Velvet's ability to reflect light gives this royal green piece a rich and everchanging colour effect.
Looking for a traditional way to add velvet to your wardrobe? Opt for a tailored blazer such as this Sportmax black creation. The broad shoulders and cinched waist add a feminine twist to this wellknown menswear piece.
When it comes to footwear, the fabric covers high heels and flats, giving them sophisticated flair. Hermès ballerinas are a cute way to embrace the trend and elevate your casual looks.
The cold season brings winter hats and we at OHLALA, absolutely love them! We have an eye on this retro-inspired velvet hat from Prada that looks like a rosebud – would you wear it?
Carolina Herrera proposes an all-velvety look with trousers and a top made of this soft textile. The puff sleeve and golden heart necklace add an extra touch to this sleek and elegant outfit.
FABULOUS AND FESTIVE
Another year is ending; it’s time to bring on the cheer wearing fantastic looks. Green, red and sparkles are our favourite picks for celebrating life and being thankful for the past 365 days –2025, we are ready for you!

A TOUCH OF LIGHT
One of the most sophisticated colour combos in the fashion world is gold and black. The metallic shade works as a shiny element to intensify the dark tone, creating an elegant outfit for any special event. Think of fabulous nights and memorable moments.
WINTER FLORALS
Flowers might not bloom during winter in most countries in the Northern Hemisphere (for us living in the Middle East, it is actually when they blossom – we have a special relationship with the weather here), but they are still a go-to pattern in the fashion world during this time of the year. They are extra vivid and stamped on a dark background for that wow, almost 3D, effect.
LET IT SNOW…
…in your wardrobe. In this part of the world, the anticipated white winter will only be seen in outfits. Invest in pieces painted in this shade from head to toe for sophisticated end-of-the-year looks. In some cultures, it’s a popular shade to step into the New Year with an extra dose of luck.

100 Years of Mastery
To mark its centenary, Loro Piana has released Master of Fibres, a book by historian and journalist Nicholas Foulkes, published by Assouline. This commemorative book plunges into the maison’s evolution from a wool trading company in the 1800s to a brand globally renowned for its cashmere. Using archival materials, interviews with the Loro Piana family, and historic photographs, Nicholas brings to life the history behind the brand. The book highlights milestones such as the founding of a wool mill in Piedmont’s Valsesia Valley by Pietro Loro Piana in 1924 and the launch of iconic products like the Grande Unità scarf in the 1980s. The 196-page volume, featuring 150 illustrations, is hand-bound and housed in a clamshell case crafted from Loro Piana’s Tela Sergio, a cotton-linen blend fabric. Part of Assouline’s Ultimate Collection, it stands as a tribute to the maison’s legacy of excellence in textiles and design.
Fashion For A Cause
Jil Sander has collaborated with the Only the Brave (OTB) Foundation to launch a limitededition T-shirt for charity, with 50% of its sales supporting the first public orphanage for girls in Kapisa, Afghanistan. This comes after the successful reopening of the province’s boys orphanage in 2022, also backed by OTB and Nove Caring Humans (one of the few Italian NGOs still operating in Afghanistan). The Kapisa orphanage provides 50 girls with shelter, education, healthcare and emotional support, offering a safe space amid widespread poverty, violence and early marriage. The orphanage also supports families in crisis, maintaining connections between children and their relatives. The T-shirt, featuring a heart motif and the slogan ‘for the children of the world’, is available worldwide in Jil Sander stores and online. Proceeds aim to empower vulnerable Afghan girls and break cycles of poverty.
Playful Fusion
Adidas Originals teams up with avant-garde fashion house Avavav for a debut collaborative collection, unveiled during Milan Fashion Week’s Spring and Summer 2025 presentation. Known for its subversive and provocative designs, Avavav, under Creative Director Beate Skonare Karlsson, brings its signature wit and internet-age aesthetic to this unique partnership. The Autumn and Winter 2024 collection, titled ‘The Worst Game You’ve Ever Seen’, explores the intersection of sports and fashion through exaggerated designs and playful irony. The campaign features a satirical take on a football match, with models portraying comically unathletic players, mishaps on a concrete pitch and a disengaged audience. The collection includes reimagined adidas classics, such as the Superstar sneaker adorned with Avavav’s iconic four-finger motifs. Garments have inflated silhouettes: cropped track tops, lengthened track robes and oversized puffer jackets. Accessories include finger-shaped hats and gloves to complete this unusual re-interpretation of sporting heritage.

For The Love Of Art
Parfums de Marly partners with the musée du Louvre to restore and enhance the Decorative Arts department’s 18th-century Cressent rooms in the Richelieu Wing. This collaboration, which began in September 2024, aims to revitalise these spaces, which are renowned for showcasing masterpieces of furniture, tapestries, paintings and objects from the royal collections and leading manufactures of the period. The project includes updating scenography, improving lighting, reorganising displays and implementing protective measures to safeguard these fragile works. Notably, pieces by Charles Cressent, a prominent Rococo artist, will undergo detailed study and potential restoration. Scheduled in three phases, the renovations will pause in early 2025 for a fashion exhibition before resuming and culminating in a grand reopening in 2026. The brand’s support highlights its dedication to French cultural heritage, with regular project updates shared on its platforms.
A Decade In The Folds
Purificación García’s Origami bag celebrates a decade since its introduction. The bag is inspired by the Japanese art of origami and is characterised by its geometric design, 3D structure and craftsmanship. It has become a key feature across the brand’s collections for men, women and accessories. For the anniversary, the brand collaborated with four plastic artists – Alba Galocha, Clara Cebrián, Sara Uriarte and Sophie Agullo, who offered their interpretations of the bag. Every artist had their own approach to the project, reflecting themes such as structure, simplicity and nature. The bag is made of high-quality Nappa leather for its flexibility and ability to hold folds. The production process mirrors origami techniques, with precise folds and triangular supports integrated to create its distinctive shape. This celebration reinforces the bag’s connection to craftsmanship and the creativity behind its design.

ALPINE EAGLE 33 FROZEN
The Alpine Eagle 33 Frozen is inspired by nature’s icy beauty. Crafted from ethical 18-carat white gold, the watch is fully set with diamonds, including baguette cuts on the bezel and brilliant cuts on the bracelet links and dial. Designed for slimmer wrists, it retains the collection’s balanced proportions. Its exhibition case back reveals the meticulously crafted Chopard 09.01-C self-winding movement, composed of 159 components. The watch also offers 50m water resistance, proving that its opulence doesn’t come at the expense of functionality.
HAPPY SPORT
The Happy Sport in Lucent Steel combines minimalist design with sustainable materials. Lucent Steel, made from 80% recycled content, offers both durability and brightness while aligning with Chopard’s commitment to sustainability. The cream-coloured guilloché dial is understated yet refined, featuring five dancing diamonds that move freely with the wearer. The bezel and case are crafted from the same steel and are water resistant to 30m. Olive-green details such as the alligator leather strap and a crown set with a green tourmaline introduce a subtle pop of colour without overwhelming the design.
HAPPY SPORT JOAILLERIE
The Happy Sport Joaillerie is a vivid display of Chopard’s playful spirit and exceptional gem-setting expertise. Its ethical 18-carat white gold case is framed by a bezel adorned with baguette-cut purple sapphires arranged in a soft gradient. The textured mother-of-pearl dial features five dancing diamonds, while sapphires serve as hour markers. This vibrant design is finished with a glossy purple alligator leather strap and a pin buckle set with diamonds. While visually dynamic, the watch is also practical, with a durable case and 30m water resistance. Its harmonious proportions are based on the golden ratio (also known as divine proportion, a ratio between two numbers that equals approximately 1.618), ensuring a visually pleasing aesthetic that is as captivating as it is balanced.
L’HEURE DU DIAMANT
The L’Heure du Diamant is a celebration of vintage-inspired elegance. A midnight-blue alligator leather strap enhances the celestial theme, creating a cohesive and sophisticated design. This watch reflects the L’Heure du Diamant collection’s roots in the 1960s while embracing modernity.

SPARKLY WINTER IN THE BIG APPLE
Tiffany & Co. brings a snowy scenario to this year’s Holiday Campaign.
The holiday season is covered in magical scenes. Tiffany & Co. unveiled its With Love, Since 1837 campaign starring the brand’s ambassador, the American actress, Anya Taylor-Joy. In the visuals, the whimsical mood of the season takes over as she explores New York City in a snow-dusted winter wonderland. The campaign is brought to life through captivating storytelling with film and still imagery. Anya travels the city draped in the house’s iconic lines, capturing the essence of each collection, highlighting Tiffany & Co.’s birthplace as the location where every act of love is celebrated, from timeless bonds to meaningful beginnings.
The film, directed by Jonas Lindstroem, is an ode to ‘the city where love never sleeps’ a parody on NYC’s nickname as the city that never sleeps popularised by Frank Sinatra in the song New York, New York. Walking over the Brooklyn Bridge, the actress wears HardWear by Tiffany designs, highlighting a gift that celebrates new heights. It concludes with Anya peering into the Fifth Avenue windows of the world’s most iconic Tiffany & Co. store: The Landmark. A snow-dusted cityscape of Manhattan beckons and dreamy vintage music plays.
The campaign also unfolds a series of starry vignettes, photographed by Carljin Jacobs, where sparkling Tiffany designs illustrate the many facets of love. In one image, the actress wears T by Tiffany, a collection inspired by New York City, while in another she is featured in Knot by Tiffany, a symbol of close connections.

TIMELESS MINIS
Cartier’s iconic watches have been meticulously miniaturised, capturing the elegance and charm of their classic designs in a more delicate form.
Miniature watches hold a special place in Cartier’s watchmaking legacy. From scaled-down versions of iconic models to standout new additions, each watch in the collection is adjusted to the millimetre, embodying the maison’s pursuit of balance between form and function.
TANK
A Cartier icon since its inception in 1917, the Tank demonstrates the brand’s adaptability. The mini Tank Louis Cartier retains its timeless aesthetic with Roman numerals, blued-steel, sword-shaped hands and a sapphire cabochon on its winding mechanism. Available in yellow gold with a black alligator leather strap, this model retains its iconic horizontal brancards and sleek contours. The mini Tank Américaine, introduced in 1988 as an extension of the Tank family, features a curved case and sunraybrushed or satin-finished dials. It is offered in yellow gold with a navy leather strap or as a jewellery watch in white gold. The jewellery model includes a dazzling combination of 41 brilliant-cut diamonds totalling 0.69 carats on the case, paired with a white gold strap set with 528 diamonds, totalling 2.60 carats.
BAIGNOIRE
The Baignoire collection, known for its oval shape and gadroon-encircled case, translates beautifully into miniaturisation. The yellow gold model features a silvered dial, blued-steel, sword-shaped hands and a black varnished calfskin strap, staying true to Cartier’s refined aesthetic. Alternatively, a yellow-gold version with a black dial and golden-finish steel hands provides a strikingly modern contrast. The yellow gold case and rigid bracelet mini Baignoire bring a vintage touch to the collection. For those who prefer jewellery watches, the rhodium-finished white gold model with 552 brilliant-cut diamonds (totalling five carats) on the case and bracelet is an opulent choice. A smaller version with 160 diamonds (1.9 carats) on a navy blue calfskin strap offers a subtler take. For versatility, a slightly larger size comes paired with a navy blue alligator strap, adding a touch of sophistication.
PANTHÈRE DE CARTIER
The Panthère de Cartier collection captures the fluid elegance of its namesake, with its supple bracelet mimicking the movement of an animal. This range includes yellow gold, rose gold and two-tone steel and gold options, some adorned with brilliant-cut diamonds for additional grandeur. The mini version stays true to its origins while concentrating on proportional refinement, preserving its admiration amidst jewellery watch lovers.
TORTUE
Standing apart is the Tortue Mini, a limited-edition timepiece inspired by the original design from 1912. With its tortoise-shell-inspired shape, this watch combines taut and curved lines in a beige, lacquered yellow gold case. The opaline dial with Roman numeral markers and a beaded crown with a sapphire cabochon underscore its distinct style. Paired with a beige calfskin strap and yellow gold ardillon buckle, this design captures the charm of vintage Cartier, perfect for collectors and connoisseurs alike.
ENCHANTED CELEBRATIONS
Boucheron’s Gates of Wonders campaign showcases a distinctive take on festive jewellery through its imagination.
With the festive season here, Boucheron opens its metaphorical Gates of Wonders, inviting us to see the world through its lens, guided by the brand ambassadors. Alexa Chung, Mila Al Zahrani and Han So-hee introduce a unique perspective, unveiling creations that capture the magic of this period in precious metals and gemstones.
Alexa Chung takes us Upside Down, where gravity loses its grip, and Boucheron’s Quatre and Plume de Paon collections redefine elegance. From the intricate detailing of Plume de Paon earrings and necklaces in white gold, pearls and diamonds to the modern edge of Quatre Classique pieces blending yellow, pink and white gold with brown PVD and diamonds, her look is a study in contrasts.
In Scale Marvel, Mila Al Zahrani explores how proportions influence perception. The Serpent Bohème rings and necklaces in yellow gold and diamonds stand out for their oversized yet refined design, while the Quatre Radiant Edition pieces in white gold and diamonds provide a modern take on geometric symmetry. Her look is completed by the Reflet Small Godron watch in steel and diamonds.
Han So-hee’s journey takes us down The Enchanted Path, where Boucheron’s creations light the way. The Serpent Bohème line in white gold and diamonds, including triple motif rings, bracelets and necklaces, illustrates the attention given to texture and form. The layered tones and variating textures of the Quatre Classique earrings, bracelets and rings further highlight how the maison uses contrast to produce visually striking pieces.

HUES OF BLUES
Embracing the essence of blue and leather, Hermès Beauty’s latest collection brings together lipsticks, eyeshadows and nail enamels for the first time.
The Autumn and Winter 2024 Limited Edition Collection from Hermès Beauty brings together Rouge Hermès lipsticks, Ombres d’Hermès eyeshadows and Les Mains Hermès nail enamels, unified by a striking theme of blue and leather-inspired hues. This marks the first time the brand has interwoven these product lines into a single story, capturing the mood of late autumn transitioning to winter through a sensory exploration of intense, varied blues.
The Rouge Hermès lipstick trio, designed by Pierre Hardy, features cases in subtle natural and botanical colours, each accented by a distinct shade of blue – Bleu Lagon, Bleu Abysse or Bleu Tempête. This season’s collection also introduces an ultra-matte finish, lending a leather-like texture to the lipsticks. The shades range from Beige Glacé, a soft, coppery beige, to Beige Doblis, a warm, clay-inspired tone and Rouge Nappa, a red that leaves a delicate, sheer tint. Creative Director Gregoris Pyrpylis explains that the
varied finishes of transparent, matte and sheer matte are intended to create different intensities for a versatile transition between seasons.
For the eyes, the Ombres d’Hermès palette combines matte, satin and shimmer eyeshadows in a refined permabrass (a gold-coloured metal that has a matte finish) case with the emblematic design of Hermès ex-libris. The palette, named Ombres Minérales, includes a striking cobalt blue alongside soft khaki and sun-kissed brown with a glimmer of gold. This composition draws on the depths of the ocean and natural earth tones, aligning with the brand’s signature materials and colours.
Les Mains Hermès nail enamels come in two shades: Bleu Agate, a deep, mineral blue, and Vert Bronze, a muted khaki. Both shades are inspired by the maison’s leather colours and are crafted with a formula of 71% natural ingredients. The lipsticks and eyeshadows are refillable with any other colours from their respective permanent collections.

Hair in crisis? Bushra Hakim uncovers expert tips for turning things around.
air is one of the most defining features of our appearance. It’s not just strands of keratin growing from our head, but a huge part of who we are. And when hair starts to lose its shine, strength or volume, it can take a toll on our confidence. Be it persistent dryness, thinning or breakage, these concerns often need professional help. To help us learn how to look after our crowning glory, we sought the advice of trichologist Daiane Alves Dos Santos, who specialises in scalp and hair health.
THE ROOT CAUSE
“Think of the scalp as an extension of the skin on your face,” Daiane explains. Much like the facial skin, the scalp requires cleansing, hydration and nourishment. Neglecting it can lead to dryness, oiliness or conditions like dandruff and hair thinning. Scalp health directly influences the quality of hair growth; if the follicles are malnourished, the hair strands are likely to be brittle and break easily. To ensure your scalp gets the care it needs, she suggests regular exfoliation to clear build-up from styling products,

dead skin and environmental pollutants. Massaging your head with natural oils like rosemary or jojoba not only hydrates but also stimulates blood circulation, which is essential for healthy follicles. She also suggests using shampoo and treatments formulated to address particular scalp issues, whether it be dandruff, sensitivity or an overproduction of sebum.
INGREDIENTS MATTER
Navigating the world of hair care products can be overwhelming, but knowing which ingredients to embrace and avoid is crucial. According to Daiane, certain component ingredients can do more harm than good. Sulphates can strip the hair of natural oils, leaving it dry and vulnerable to damage. Parabens, often used as preservatives, may disrupt hormones, while silicones create a coating on the hair shaft that leads to build-up over time. Other ingredients to avoid are mineral oil, which can suffocate the scalp, and formaldehyde (a preservative) found in some treatments, a common irritant. Instead, she suggests looking for products enriched with nourishing components like natural oils such as argan oil, shea butter and panthenol (vitamin B5), which hydrate and repair hair. Aloe vera and chamomile soothe the scalp, while proteins strengthen damaged fibres. Hydrators like vegetable glycerine and hyaluronic acid help retain moisture, adding shine and softness to the hair.
WEATHER WOES
Living in the Middle East comes with its own set of challenges. High humidity, intense sun exposure and desalinated water can wreak havoc on hair, making it frizzy, brittle and prone to breakage. It’s important to adapt your hair care routine to suit these conditions. “UV rays don’t just damage the skin; they also degrade the protein in your hair, causing it to lose strength and shine,” Daiane explains. She recommends using leave-in products with UV protection, as well as hats or scarves for added shielding. For combating humidity, anti-frizz serums and hydrating masks are lifesavers, helping to seal the hair cuticle and lock in moisture. Water quality also plays a major role in hair health. The heavy minerals in desalinated or hard water can dry out your hair and leave it feeling rough. Installing a shower filter or using clarifying treatments once a week can help minimise the damage.
SALON SOLUTIONS
Salon treatments like keratin smoothing, hair botox and sealing promise sleek, frizz-free locks, but Daiane warns against over-relying on these quick fixes. “These treatments often use chemicals that alter the hair’s natural structure, leaving it more vulnerable in the long term,” she warns. For instance, keratin smoothing requires high temperatures and formaldehydereleasing agents that can weaken bonds in the hair. Similarly, hair botox treatments, while marketed as restorative, often rely on straightening chemicals that can be damaging with repeated use.
SEEKING PROFESSIONAL HELP
Knowing when to seek professional advice is vital for maintaining healthy hair. Daiane points to signs like excessive hair loss, persistent dryness, brittle strands and scalp irritation. If home remedies fail to deliver results, it’s time to consult a specialist. “Hair loss and thinning are often caused by factors such as genetics, nutritional deficiencies or environmental stress,” she explains. Specialists can provide accurate diagnoses and tailored solutions to address these issues effectively. Treatments like mesotherapy and microneedling improve blood flow and nutrient absorption in the scalp, promoting stronger, healthier hair. Similarly, low-level laser therapy stimulates follicles to encourage regrowth, making it an effective option for chronic or genetic hair loss. She also emphasises personalised nutrition plans that correct deficiencies in essential nutrients such as iron, zinc and biotin. These approaches, combined with scalp detoxification and regular professional monitoring, ensure long-term success, especially in challenging climates.
“The earlier the intervention, the faster and more effective the treatment will be, allowing you to recover the health of your hair and scalp,” Daiane concludes.

HELLO, RADIANT SKIN!
It’s the last month of the year! Fernanda Langhammer headed to The Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay for a transformative facial to embrace the festive days with a special glow.
Ihave yet to meet someone who doesn’t like to go for a spa treatment; if that’s you, by any chance, we need to talk! I love them. It’s also part of my job to try the many treatments in town and on my trips. However, I must confess that my favourite type of therapy is not a massage – I am all about facials. And that’s exactly the treatment I had when I visited The Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay for the VIP O2 Oxygenating Facial from Biologique Recherche.
I have heard about this French brand, but I just recently had the opportunity to test it in a quick express facial, and I have to say that I noticed amazing results. So when I learned that The Spa at Four Seasons was offering treatments with Biologique Recherche, I was more than excited to visit for a comprehensive session at the hands of their skilled Esthetician, Olga. I have had a facial with her before, and she is superb.
For me, the whole experience starts at the reception. The Spa has a beautiful, ample area where natural light enters the room and illuminates the terracotta floor. The space offers a high-end selection of all sorts of pool and beach must-haves. I sat in one of the chairs near the window, letting the morning light wash over me while filling out the form regarding my preferences and health status. Meanwhile, I also had the Inner Glow juice made with watermelon, collagen, pineapple, flaxseed, pomegranate, pearl powder and superberry blend; it was totally refreshing, accompanied by a cold towel with lemongrass scent to remove the impurities from my hands and face.
I was then taken to the ladies’ area to get changed. With 17 treatment rooms and an array of facilities, such as a salt room, indoor pool, Jacuzzi and much more, this is one of the largest Four Seasons spas in the world. It feels like that, with many corridors and several common areas, as well as an upscale décor style that’s still very welcoming and calming.
After changing into a fluffy robe, I was welcomed by Olga, who took me to my Pearl room, which was already set for my facial. Dimly lit and with pleasant music playing in the background, it was time to relax and enjoy an hour of rejuvenation. Before cleaning my face, she placed a bright lamp near my complexion to analyse it and explained the benefits of the VIP O2 Oxygenating Facial. The treatment oxygenates, brightens and hydrates skin, detoxifying and stimulating the epidermis. The skin is supposed to get an incredible glow and become more luminous. The results are not only on the outside; the treatment also improves cell renewal. Skin cell regeneration requires oxygen, and high pollution levels in cities disrupt the restoration process, leading to slower cell metabolism and insufficient oxygen supply to the complexion. This can cause premature ageing and also results in a grey aspect and loss of natural glow. Suitable for all skin types, mainly for those with a dull complexion that has lost vitality – I am the perfect candidate.
The star product of this therapy is the Booster VIP O2. Like all products in this line, its basic formula consists of an ‘oxygen complex’ created by Biologique Recherche. Its active ingredients allow cells not only to breathe better but to produce more energy and higher-quality proteins.
Olga started the facial ritual by cleansing my complexion with the Solution Démaquillante Pour Les Yeux to remove make-up from the delicate eye contour area, followed by Eau Micellaire Biosensible to remove the impurities of the face. She then applied Lait S.R. to gently cleanse the skin with a VIP O2 glove massage to finalise the cleaning process. The next step was applying Lotion P50, an exfoliating, mattifying and purifying product that boosts the natural exfoliation process of the epidermis and helps rebuild the epidermal shield. It was then time to apply the unique Booster VIP O2, a bubbly-textured product that makes a crackling sound when applied and gives a warm sensation to the skin. It was quite an interesting experience,
something I had never had before. It felt like my skin was going through a transformation. Right after, the Mask VIP O2 was applied, calming the tingling feeling and brightening the complexion; it also has anti-fatigue properties. While the mask was acting, Olga performed a scalp massage. After removing the product, she applied the Quintessential Serums, composed of several key ingredients with the purest and rawest formulas to target specific imbalances such as dehydration, devitalisation, fine lines and sebum excess. The treatment was finalised with the Creme VIP O2, which stimulates cell respiration, Creme Contour Des Yeux VIP O2 eye cream to brighten this fragile area, Biokiss lip care and Finishing Serums VIP O2, which prevents pollutant particles from penetrating the skin and erases signs of fatigue.
As you can see, this is an extensive facial involving many steps to achieve optimum results. Olga has a delicate yet assertive touch and as an experienced professional, she explained every step with patience and knowledge. She gave me a mirror, and my skin looked radiant and hydrated, with a beautiful glow that I hadn’t seen in years. I was extremely pleased with the result. There was only one problem: the 60 minutes passed way too fast! I highly recommend you book more treatments as you feel so immersed in this sanctuary of calm and peace that, just like me, you won’t want it to end.
I had a peppermint tea in the relaxation room and felt like my skin was bursting with radiance. I then got back into my work clothes, applied minimum make-up and headed to the office, making a mental note to book another session next month. I could easily get used to this refreshed face.

WAVES OF STYLE
A budding talent from the Middle East, Mrunal Khimji launches her debut collection, Lehren.
Mrunal Khimji’s debut collection entitled Lehren is a balanced mix of grace, fluidity and craftsmanship, drawing inspiration from the movement of the ocean. The name itself, which means ‘waves’ in Urdu, speaks of the rhythmic flow that defines the essence of the collection. Pure crêpe fabrics are used for the garments and drape effortlessly, bringing out a sense of natural elegance. Each creation in this collection – from ethereal saris and flowing kaftans to modern jumpsuits and dresses – embraces the calming, free-spirited nature of the sea.
Oman-based, she fuses Indian and Arab aesthetics in Lehren. The collection brings together rich cultural influences, blending the opulence of Indian textiles with the understated refinement of Arab design. Intricate surface detailing, achieved through time-honoured techniques, brings these elements to life, making each piece a testament to the skill and hard work of the artisans who created them.
Apart from design, this ensemble also focuses on being sustainable. Mrunal’s commitment to ethical fashion is evident as she works closely with the artisans. Each piece is handcrafted with care, ensuring that it not only looks good but is also made responsibly.
It’s a reflection of the designer’s dedication to supporting these textile artists while maintaining high standards of craftsmanship.
With Lehren, Mrunal echoes the sound of the sea while weaving together stories of craft, culture and ethical elegance.

FOR THE LOVE OF SHOES
Aquazzura, well-known for its impeccable footwear and accessories handmade in Italy, has landed at Marassi Galleria Mall, and OHLALA had the opportunity to interview the brand’s Founder and Creative Director, Edgardo Osorio, on his visit to the boutique.
OHLALA – You studied fashion at the London College of Fashion and Central Saint Martins. What made you fall in love with the footwear universe? Why shoes?
Edgardo Osorio – It all started during my childhood when I was surrounded by women who ignited my interest in fashion. I remember my mum used to wear heels all the time; she was minimal in the way she dressed, but she always wore great shoes. Since I was a child, I’ve been drawing and sketching a lot, and designing shoes soon became my real passion and a natural extension of my love for fashion, something instinctive that always came naturally.
OHLALA – We know that the Aquazzura world is more than shoes. How important are the handbags and other accessories to the brand?
Edgardo – My desire is to evolve Aquazzura into a lifestyle brand. I started this transformation by introducing the first fashion jewellery collection in Spring and Summer 2021, then Aquazzura Casa followed, and 2023 was the year of the launch of my first handbag collection. Of course, the shoes remain the core business of the brand, but bags grow fast from season to season, which I am really proud of. My plan is to expand into other product categories like eyewear and men’s footwear next year and to grow our Casa collection with exciting new projects that are underway right now!
OHLALA – Aquazzura shoes are beautifully constructed. Can you tell us more about how long it takes to make them and how important it is for you to keep skilled craftsmanship at their core?
Edgardo – From idea to reality, a shoe can take up to six to nine months to craft, with each step of the process requiring specific expertise. My sketches are interpreted by the pattern makers, who develop the design and create a unique mould. New styles are perfected with millimetric precision to achieve a balanced fit and maximum lightness. The last (a form shaped like a human foot, usually made of wood and used by shoemakers for centuries) and shape are specially developed to distribute the weight of the body throughout the foot, making our heel incredibly comfortable to wear. Additionally, the soles are enriched with cushioned padding. The problem with most of the beautiful shoes is that they are uncomfortable. That’s why when I started my own brand, I wanted to do something different and hired
“Happiness! I want to bring joy, make people smile and feel good with everything I do.”
– Edgardo Osorio, Aquazzura’s Founder and Creative Director
a technician who has been making last and shoe constructions for over 40 years. Together, we developed a last and shape that fits better on the foot and distributes the body’s weight not only on the ball of your foot but also in the arch and the back. Most importantly, we also put extra padding with memory foam on the soles so that they are softer when you walk.
OHLALA – It is really interesting to see how you transfer the design of a shoe to a handbag. How does this process occur?
Edgardo – The initial part of the design process is quite the same. I take inspiration from many influences: travel, exhibitions, visiting art galleries and flea markets, books, women and much more, and then I start drawing what comes naturally. We make our bags exclusively in Tuscany as the quality of the craftsmanship is the highest in Italy. Also, the materials and the colour palette selection have similar steps in the process. Much like the shoes, I want all our bags to be versatile and functional, so we do fit trials to see that they have the right proportions, can be worn in different ways and are comfortable to wear.
OHLALA – What message do you want to give your customers with your creations?
Edgardo – Happiness! I want to bring joy, make people smile and feel good with everything I do. With my creations, I want to express the modern Dolce Vita. A concept of elegance, all Italian, made of quality craftsmanship but also characterised by the innate style, the typical sunny nature of this land but also of my Colombian origins. It is an invitation to enjoy life; it is joie de vivre.
OHLALA – Why do you think the Middle Eastern women or women living in this region are the perfect fit for Aquazzura?
Edgardo – I think Middle Eastern women pay a lot of attention to their accessories. When it comes to shoes, they look for footwear that’s feminine, timeless, yet fashionable and comfortable, which are all aspects found in Aquazzura shoes.
OHLALA – What are the three words that define Aquazzura for you?
Edgardo – Sensual, sophisticated and playful.

‘TIS THE SEASON
For those who love winter but want a side of adventure – these escapes blend lazy mornings with unexpected thrills, all wrapped in magic.
Let’s be honest: winter is for unapologetic lounging, where pyjamas are practically a uniform and hot chocolate becomes a meal. But there’s also that nagging itch to explore something new – without leaving behind the plush robes and lazy mornings. Imagine a getaway where you can roll out of bed straight into a world that’s both snug and spectacular. Picture icy forests just begging for an easy wander, outdoor hot tubs where you can soak while the snow falls and places where the most strenuous activity is choosing between the best of warm drinks. This is winter adventuring but on your terms – relaxed, magical and with just enough excitement to keep you feeling alive.
COURCHEVEL, FRANCE
High up in the Alps, Courchevel is the crème de la crème of ski destinations, but there’s much more to it than pristine slopes. For those craving an elevated alpine retreat, Aman Le Mélézin promises an enchanting getaway with its ski-in, ski-out access to the Bellecôte piste. This luxurious haven combines the charm of a French château with Aman’s Asian-inspired elegance and newly renovated rooms, some with private terraces, make it feel like an intimate winter cocoon. Foodies will fall for Nama, the Japanese restaurant serving sashimi on a terrace overlooking the piste and an après-ski treat at the Fireside Delights Party, featuring homemade melted chocolate and caviar-topped waffles. Beyond the culinary adventures, the two-story spa offers rejuvenation through classic massages, tai chi and special wellness therapies, letting you bask in mountainous tranquillity.
HARBIN, CHINA
Harbin may not be as famous as other Asian cities, but come the frigid temperatures and it transforms into a dazzling icy wonderland that rivals the best of them. Known for its annual Ice and Snow Festival, this is where the cold season gets an artistic makeover. You will find yourself walking amongst massive sculptures of dragons, palaces and mythical creatures, all carved out of ice and illuminated in neon colours. This festival is a celebration of both Chinese culture and the art of ice sculpting, with artists from around the globe contributing to the magical displays. Besides the festival, the city’s Russian-influenced architecture and fabulous cuisine make it a fascinating place to explore. Warm up with bowls of hearty dongbei dishes, sip on hot drinks or try the famous ice pops, enjoyed even in sub-zero temperatures. There’s something about the city’s brisk cold air and shimmering ice sculptures that turn the season into a spellbinding frosty fantasy.
HOKKAIDO, JAPAN
For a winter experience rooted in both adventure and relaxation, Hokkaido is Japan’s snow-laden paradise. Known for its powdery snow, this northern island is a dream for skiers and snowboarders alike, but it has lots of other things one can do. The town of Otaru, with its lantern-lit canals and charming old streets, becomes a beautiful winter wonderland, while the Sapporo Snow Festival astounds with intricate ice sculptures and lively events. After a day on the slopes or exploring Hokkaido’s snowy landscapes, head to one of the island’s famous onsen or hot spring baths, to soak away the cold. Imagine the contrast of steaming water against the cool, snowy air – Hokkaido has truly mastered the art of relaxation. Don’t miss a chance to try their delicacies, from fresh seafood to the local favourite, miso ramen. It’s an escape that balances the thrill of the outdoors with moments of pure, warm bliss.
ROVANIEMI, FINLAND
Welcome to the official home of Santa Claus! In Rovaniemi, Finland, December takes on a festive, almost magical quality that’s perfect for both kids and adults who still believe in a little festive magic. Visit Santa’s Village to send postcards with a special North Pole postmark, meet reindeer and even go dog sledding with a team of huskies eager to show you the beauty of Lapland. But Rovaniemi isn’t just for festive fans – it’s also a prime spot to witness the Northern Lights. With luck, you’ll catch this natural phenomenon dancing across the sky in hues of green and purple, lighting up the snowy forests in an ethereal glow. Warm up in a glass igloo or traditional Finnish cabin after a day exploring snowy trails and let the stillness of the Arctic night wrap around you.
VIENNA, AUSTRIA
Vienna, in the colder months, is a city dressed to impress. With festive markets, candle-lit cafés and streets strung with twinkling lights, you feel like you’re in a holiday rom-com. The season kicks off with a glow as Vienna’s iconic festive markets open, filling the air with the scent of mulled grape, roasted chestnuts and freshly baked gingerbread. From the Art Advent on Karlsplatz to the cosy festive setting at the University Campus, each market has its own charm that blends local crafts, festive foods and live entertainment. The city’s UNESCO-recognised coffee culture is perfect, where cosy cafés offer steaming cups of coffee alongside decadent pastries like the Sachertorte. And for those who enjoy skating, rinks pop up around the city, including the expansive Eislaufverein and the Vienna Ice Dream at Rathausplatz. For a once-in-a-lifetime experience, attend one of the winter balls and waltz the night away in historic settings like the Vienna State Opera.
DAMARALAND, NAMIBIA
Swap snow for sand dunes, and you’ll find yourself in Namibia’s Damaraland, an otherworldly winter destination unlike any other. As the end of the year brings milder weather, it’s the perfect time to explore Namibia’s stunning landscapes, rich wildlife and ancient rock art. Imagine standing at the base of massive red rock formations or watching elephants wander through the desert, their tracks fading into the vast, open terrain. With its warm days and crisp nights, it’s ideal for trekking, stargazing and soaking in some of Africa’s most spectacular sunsets. Stay in eco-lodges that blend seamlessly into the landscape, and let local guides introduce you to the flora and fauna that have adapted to this extraordinary environment. It’s a reminder of how winter can be a season of discovery, even in the warmth of the African desert.
FRIDAY FEASTING
Weekends are made of happy moments with memories built around good food. Fernanda Langhammer headed to Baharat for a marvellous brunch experience.
What is the best thing to do on a Friday in Bahrain? Go for a brunch! With many options available, it can be difficult to choose but, for me, they need to have a mix of nice ambience, excellent food and refreshing drinks. Baharat at Le Méridien City Centre Bahrain offers this combo with a great location added to the blend.
It was Friday, and we woke up in brunch mood, so we put on our best weekend frocks and headed to Le Méridien. We left our car with the valet parking (it’s complimentary for those joining the brunch; you just need to get the ticket stamped), and right after crossing through the revolving door, Baharat was on our right. Much to everyone’s delight, a massive dessert display welcomed us into the restaurant – the brunch is wellknown for offering one of the most extensive selections of sweets on the island. We had to check them out before going to our table and plan our food intake to leave as much space as possible for them.
We chose one of the tables that mixes sofa and chairs for a comfortable dining experience. The décor is inspired by Middle Eastern elements, such as Moroccan blue tiles covering some of the walls and columns, giving an elegant yet traditional feel. Turkish lamps with their colourful glass mosaic pattern hanging from the ceiling, creating a unique lighting effect, was my favourite touch.
The well-planned food display makes everything easy to reach without a crowded sensation, with a perfect flow from salads and appetisers to warm food and live stations. I started with the Levantine Fattoush salad – it’s always my go-to pick. In my opinion, it is one of the best combinations with cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, iceberg lettuce, fresh herbs and toasted pita bread for the extra crunch, bathed in lemon vinaigrette dressing with a touch of sumac and pomegranate molasses, yum! Refreshing and an excellent way to start the feast. I also went for the classic hummus, moutabal and muhammara to eat with my bread choices. I didn’t even try to resist the Poached Pears Goat Cheese and Potato Harra Salad and got a small portion of each; both options were delicious.
I have to confess that I have a thing or two for fried hot appetisers, so I visited the area where they were displayed and filled my plate with prawns, fish and calamari – all covered in a crunchy batter – I know it is not the healthiest choice, but the satisfaction of biting into a crispy shell and finding warm meat inside made me forget about any downside. While exploring the food choices, I met Complex Executive Chef Mohammad Ali, who explained the brunch concept and focus on seafood (perfect for a country on an island). He also mentioned the importance of the live stations, highlighting the two that were my and my dining companions’ favourite aspects of the brunch: the sushi and ceviche counters. The ceviche spot is under the close attention of Peruvian Chef Brayan. With salmon, tuna, prawn and scallop options as a base for the dish, there is an array of accompaniments such as avocado, mango, corn, coriander and onion. However, the magic relies on the Leche de Tigre, the liquid mixture composed of lemon, ginger, onion, Rocoto chillies, fish stock, celery and ice, all well-blended, resulting in an aromatic juice that ‘cooks’ the raw fish while delivering a delectable taste to it. If you know this dish well, you can make your own combination or let Chef Brayan mix and match the ingredients for an authentic result. One of my dining mates visited the station three times – if you have any questions about whether it is worth trying.
However, if you are not a fan of seafood and still want to enjoy the live stations, there is a Mexican corner with tacos, nachos, guacamole, salsa and all the staples to enjoy this popular cuisine. There is also a pasta counter where you can choose a red or white sauce and many ingredients to create your own dish. But if you like elevated flavours, the Fois Gras Station must be the right stop for you. This delicacy is beautifully prepared by the chefs and placed on a bed of bread, fruits and raspberry sauce.
There are way too many warm dishes to list, but I will highlight some of them. We tried the Hammour Singari Bahrain Style, which was perfectly cooked and covered with a layer of spices that added character to the fish. The Beef Brisket was tender, with natural juices in every bite, making it a good pick for meat lovers. The Potato Dauphinoise (also known as Potato au Gratin) is a decadent French recipe made with thin slices of potato cooked in cream, topped with cheese and then baked. This comforting dish was the best accompaniment to the brisket for its soft texture and easy-to-pair flavour.
Completely satisfied with our savoury bites, it was time to return to the restaurant entrance to delve into the sweet universe. I love, love, love Sticky Date Pudding and Umm Ali, so they were my first picks, and they did not disappoint. Both were super warm and moist, as expected, with a touch of spice, absolutely perfect. We also tried the Tiramisu, which was light and had the right amount of coffee. I ordered an Americano because there is nothing better for me than a warm cup of coffee and a slice of cake. I chose the Signature of the Brunch, an almond cake with vanilla filling that hit the spot wonderfully. But you also find gateaux, cheesecakes, macarons, cupcakes, a chocolate fountain and much more.
The entertainment included a special performance by the Flamenco duo Salvi and Pabla from The Westin’s restaurant, Salero. An unexpected presentation that amazed all the guests.
With happy tummies, we left with a feeling of a well-spent Friday. Fantastic food, lively ambience, beautiful décor, cooling drinks – we will be back!

SPORTY AND SPACIOUS
OHLALA TEST-DROVE THE SECOND-GENERATION AUDI Q3, A COMFORTABLE COMPACT FAMILY SUV WITH PLENTY TO OFFER.
Tracing its roots back as far as 1899, the German automotive manufacturer Audi AG is a world-renowned brand loved for its high-performance vehicles, innovative approach to design and unwavering dedication to improving on previous offerings.
At OHLALA, we have had the privilege of test-driving numerous models from this beloved brand over the years. This month, thanks to the team at Audi Centre Bahrain, we got the opportunity to thoroughly inspect the new Audi Q3, a compact family SUV we took great pleasure in putting through its paces.
ATHLETIC EXTERIOR
As we approached the second-generation Q3, we were immediately struck by its sportier appearance. This model’s athletic prowess is partially due to the striking SingleFrame grille with an octagon design divided up by vertical bars. Further adding to the front end are the trapezoidal outer air inlets and the horizontal line running below the headlights across the front.
We appreciated the makeup of the narrow LED headlights that taper inwards in a wedge shape, along with the strong shoulder line that formally connects the symmetrical lighting graphics of the headlights to those at the rear.
The muscular wheel wells with contrasting wheel arch trims, housing 18inch aluminium wheels, emphasised the vehicle’s robust look. We admired the low roofline that ends in strong, evenly raked D pillars, endowing the Q3 with a sense of forward thrust even on the showroom floor.
Moving to the back end, we took in the attractive L-shaped taillights as well as the wide roof spoiler that flanks the rear window on either side. We liked how the diffuser inserts, with four ribs, round off the rear at the bottom, smartly integrating with the tailpipe design trim.
DYNAMIC INTERIOR
Once inside the cabin, we were instantly impressed by the internal architecture of the brand’s latest creation. A large panoramic sunroof allows for plenty of natural light, making it all the easier for us to complete our inspection. Audi has managed to merge the beauty of the materials and layout with the functionality of the in-car tech. A great example is how the dashboard effortlessly harmonises with the digital operating concept.
We loved the discreet manner in which the central MMI display is inserted in the high-gloss black surround. Sporting an octagonal shape, it echoes the motif of the SingleFrame and is bordered by a classy chrome strip. We also appreciated the manner in which all displays, buttons and controls are ergonomically positioned, with everything designed with the driver in mind.
“Audi has managed to merge the beauty of the materials and layout with the functionality of the in-car tech.”
The distinctly horizontal lines of the instrument panel give the interior an open and airy feel, whilst the robust look of the door panel reflects the strong SUV character of the new Q3.
Along with plenty of head, shoulder and leg room for all occupants, this family SUV houses the largest in-segment luggage compartment with a capacity of 530 litres, making it ideal for day-to-day use. This area can be increased up to 1,525 litres with adjustments to the rear seating and backrests.
OUTSTANDING TECH AND INFOTAINMENT
Audi has overhauled the operating and display concept in the secondgeneration Q3, eliminating all analogue instruments. These had been replaced in our standard model, featuring MMI radio plus, by a digital instrument cluster with a 10.25-inch screen diagonal, which we could operate via the multifunctional steering wheel.
The team at Audi Centre Bahrain informed us that MMI Radio Plus can be upgraded to the Audi virtual cockpit. This allows the customer to configure the operating system in many areas. In addition to the usual data, such as road and engine speed, it also displays information on music tracks and Audi Connect services.
Other great features of this digital instrument are the free-text search and voice control capabilities. We entered a navigation destination using free text on a virtual keypad when the vehicle was stationary, and we also used handwriting recognition. This resulted in a list of restaurant options appearing after entering just a few letters. What proved even more useful was the new natural language voice control option that allowed us to use freely structured wording to locate a desired destination. After voicing a sentence like “I am hungry,” the system responded by suggesting restaurants nearby. The dialogue manager can also ask questions, when necessary, allow for corrections, offer choices and defer to the speaker when interrupted. We have to admit we had a lot of fun with this feature.
We also discovered the Audi smartphone interface, which integrates the AMI, to establish contact with our iOS and Android mobile phones. This brought our Apple CarPlay and Android Auto environment onto the MMI display.
We must also mention the Bang & Olufsen Premium Sound System with virtual 3D sound. It provided a fantastic audio experience. Its 15-speaker setup produces a total output of 680 watts. Four additional speakers in the dashboard, which use the reflections of the windshield, and one speaker per D pillar generate the 3D sound.
SATISFYING POWER AND PERFORMANCE
Once able to tear ourselves away from all the trimmings and tech of the interior, it was time to head to our performance testing site. En route, we acknowledged the smooth ride, feeling the responsive nature of the steering and braking systems.
The new Q3 comes with a range of TFSI engine choices. Our test-drive model was powered by the entry-level, 1.5-litre 35 TFSI petrol engine. Coupled with a manual six-speed transmission, this capable motor generated up to 150hp and 250Nm of torque. We were informed that this option is exclusively available with front-wheel drive.
Accelerating from 0-100km/h in a respectable 9.6 seconds and reaching a top speed of 211km/h, we found this more than adequate for a day-today family SUV. There are, however, more powerful options available if desired, all of which are refined and efficient four-cylinder turbo engines.
FIRST-CLASS DRIVER ASSISTANCE AND SAFETY
It came as no surprise that the Q3 is top of its class when it comes to safety and driver assistance features.
Amongst these are adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assist, active lane assist, park assist, cross traffic assist rear, emergency brake assist and active lane assist.
Audi has bundled the most important systems in the assistance package. Along with the adaptive cruise assist, it comprises camera-based traffic sign recognition, the parking system plus, the high-beam assist and the emergency assist. The latter detects, within system limits, whether the driver is inactive and accordingly provides a visual, acoustic and haptic warning. If this does not prompt a reaction from the driver, the system takes control of the Audi Q3 and automatically stops it in its own lane.
OUR VERDICT
Audi’s second-generation Q3 is an innovative, compact SUV that looks good, drives well and takes care of you and your loved ones when on the go.

CELEBRATING 100 YEARS
BREAKING THE CYCLE
Ever wondered why you make New Year's resolutions and never follow them through? Here's how to tackle them without the drama.
As the clock strikes midnight on New Year's Eve, we are filled with hope, determination and often a list of resolutions. Whether it's getting fitter, eating healthier or learning a new skill, the beginning of the year feels like a fresh opportunity for change. But by January 2, that motivation can start to waver, especially when we make one misstep. Enter the ‘what-the-hell’ effect – a sneaky little trick our minds play on us. It starts innocently enough. You plan to hit the gym at 8am, but by 8.05am, you're still in bed. In a moment of frustration, you think, ‘Well, I missed my chance for today. I'll just try again tomorrow’, or worse, ‘I'll start next week’. The ‘what-the-hell’
effect leads us to believe that if we don't start at the perfect time, it's no longer worth starting at all.
But here's the thing: missing a deadline doesn't mean the entire day or goal is ruined. In fact, the opposite is true. The key to long-term success is consistency, not perfection. A missed morning workout doesn't mean the day is lost – it just indicates it's time to reset, take a deep breath and go for it in the next available moment.
So, let's ditch the all-or-nothing mentality. Instead of falling into the trap of giving up because of one hiccup, focus on progress, not perfection. When life throws you off track this year, don't let anything derail you. Get back up, refocus and keep going.
