Faithfulness
is a word that sums up this issue of the ministry magazine. We are highlighting, honoring, and thanking Bob Crittenden for his thirty years of ministry at Faith Radio. Those thirty years of ministry service can best be described as faithfulness. God expects us as believers to be faithful with the talents, abilities, gifts, and treasures He has given us. Bob has exhibited that as he has steadily served at Faith Radio. But God not only asks for faithfulness from us, He Himself is a faithful God. Billy Irvin reminds us of that in his article describing his family’s recent tragedy. Billy’s family has found comfort knowing that God is faithful and has promised to never leave them or forsake them. As you read this issue, we pray that you will marvel at the faithfulness of God, while striving to model faithfulness in your life. 2

Voices of Faith Radio is a part of every life. Rain falls “ Suffering upon every life. All people encounter tragedy. Everybody struggles through hardship— not just Christians. But for the believer, for the child of God, whatever comes into our life first comes through the grid of God’s plan and purpose for our lives. There are no accidents in the life of the believer.

The Faith Radio Board of Directors celebrated Bob’s 30 years with a special dinner.
Celebrating with Bob Crittenden Y EA RS
by Mark Williams, President of the Board of Directors
In 1984, Faith Radio began operating as a Christian radio station. God laid it on the hearts of a handful of key people to initiate this effort, and their faithfulness was rewarded with the grant of a 100,000 watt station named WLBF. With the frequent on-air reminder that WLBF stood for “We Live By Faith” and the generosity of Frazer United Methodist Church, the station launched from a trailer on the Frazer grounds. The goal was a simple one: provide the best Christian programming available with no commercials. This was a bold undertaking because it required the persistent commitment of the listeners to sustain the station. The listeners responded and Faith Radio flourished. In 1991, the Board of Directors of Faith Radio hired

a young man from Marietta, Georgia, named Bob Crittenden. Bob’s role was to lead the “Morning Praise” show and to assist in programming. Morning Praise added a new dimension to the Faith Radio sound. Thousands of listeners began their workdays listening to Bob’s voice as he, in essence, lead the listeners in worship. By the late 1990’s, the station had grown and added full-powered stations in Andalusia and Dothan. This lineup was soon complemented by several translator frequencies that allowed the WLBF signal to be broadcast into several smaller cities and provided a nearly continuous signal throughout central and south Alabama as well as north Florida. Because of Faith Radio’s growth into new markets, the need to provide more in-depth programming on issues facing Alabamians was apparent. Faith Radio launched the weekday afternoon program The Meeting House and, once again, Bob Crittenden was given the task of making the program a success. The purpose of the “The Meeting House” was to filter today’s America and today’s Alabama through scripture and to bring the listeners into the discussion of how we as Christians should react to what is going on around us. Bob was the perfect person to lead this effort. Bob Crittenden brought to the program his deep understanding of the Bible, a keen knowledge of what is going on in government on both the local and national level, and a commitment to professionalism that permeates every show. From the time The Meeting House launched, listeners responded in an overwhelmingly positive fashion. Through his interviews of preachers, authors, musicians, and politicians (and everything in between), Bob developed a one-of-a-kind show that attracted national and local figures. The result was a program that brought depth to Christian issues and provided a platform for authors and musicians to be introduced to the listeners. I often tell people that Bob is the most knowledgeable person I know about the state of Christianity. But knowledge alone does not make Bob the person he is. He is professional, kind, a Bible enthusiast, and highly protective of what goes on the air at Faith Radio. After 30 years at Faith Radio, Bob Crittenden is doing his best work. Bob’s work glorifies God’s great name. It would be hard for me to imagine Faith Radio without Bob Crittenden’s voice. Our hope is that Bob will be with us another 30 years. TRUSTING GOD THROUGH THE TRIALS by Billy Irvin, Director of Ministry Relations
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in time of trouble.” This promise had never rung so true in our hearts as it did on April 22nd, when our family experienced the darkest moment of our life. After a healthy pregnancy, my daughter was anticipating a smooth delivery of her

second child, a son, Will Parrish. Baby Will’s life began in a listless state after some unexpected extreme birth complications. These complications caused my daughter, Alissa, to experience massive bleeding, two emergency surgeries, and a lot of uncertainty on our part. During those
FAITH RADIO’S MINISTRY MAGAZINE
uncertain hours, we cried, leaned on scripture, and prayed. We asked God to heal Alissa and wake up Will. God heard our prayers. He provided healing for Alissa, and after Will spent 11 days in the NICU, God woke up Will in Heaven. God tells us to trust Him completely because our own understanding will not sustain us. On April 22nd, my sonin-law, Slade, texted me in his crisis: “God led us down this road, and I trust He will continue to lead us through this.” Throughout this journey, we have turned to some great truths that we’ve heard on Faith Radio, and we now understand that not everything is meant to be understood. The Bible tells us in Isaiah 55 that the Lord says, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways.” Because of who God is and how He loves us, we can trust Him. God allows hardship in our lives so that our beliefs will become more and more real to us and less and less theory. It is not the trials in your life that develop or destroy you, but rather your response
FAITH RADIO’S MINISTRY MAGAZINE
to those hardships. God doesn’t give us what we can handle; God helps us handle what we are given. No matter what you are going through today, know that it’s impossible to simultaneously trust God and not trust God. Each one of us has a unique hurt, and God knows them all. God picked you and equipped you for whatever it is that you’re going through. You are God’s child, and He loves you and will provide for your every need. Trust Him through your pain, because God sees, He loves, and He is at work in your crisis. 11
LIGHT IN THE DARK
Faith Radio and The Meeting House Provide Hope in Desperate Circumstances by Bob Crittenden, host of The Meeting House Throughout my years at Faith Radio, thousands of guests have been heard between the two programs I have hosted, Morning Praise, from 1991 to 2004, and The Meeting House, from 2004 to the present. The Meeting House was designed as a program to help listeners grow spiritually, encouraging Christians to apply a Biblical worldview to various areas of their lives. This includes applying Scripture to how we view current events and hearing about how God has worked to transform lives by bringing people out of darkness into His light. I am reminded of guests who have testified to the hope of Christ they have experienced. For instance, I remember the incredible conversation with John Roser of Uttermost Missions, author of the book, Blindsided, which details an accident that took the life of his teenaged son and how God ministered in John’s life following his son’s death. He reminded listeners of the love and presence of God, even in times of loss. I was joined recently by Rosie Rivera, the author of the book, God is Your Defender. She experienced God’s faithfulness and healing after enduring childhood abuse and experiencing the death of her sister, Jenni, a high-profile entertainer. Rosie encouraged us to allow God to defend us, rather than trying to defend ourselves, in our times of difficulty. Recently at the 2021 National Religious Broadcasters Convention in Dallas, a number of guests related their own stories of God’s faithfulness. They included: • Terry Ascott: At NRB,Terry Ascott, the founder of media ministry SAT-7 (serving the Middle East) 12
shared about his involvement with its work and discussed his book, Dare to Believe. • Rachael Flick: The host of The Hopecast with Rachael Flick shared about how she has experienced God’s hope and faithfulness after her late husband, a law enforcement officer, was killed in the line of duty. • Mark Gregston: Mark Gregston, heard on Parenting Today’s Teens on Faith Radio, shared about some “tools” that Christian parents can apply as they raise the teenagers with whom God has entrusted them. His latest book is Grandparenting Today’s Teens. • Angela Alexander: While she was serving in the military in Japan, Angela Alexander was notified that her husband and four children were involved in an accident - their two sons died. At NRB, she related how God’s presence has been with her, and she commented on her book, Miracles in Action. God is continuing to write incredible stories! Please tune in to The Meeting House weekday afternoons between 4 and 6 to be inspired and informed. FAITH RADIO’S MINISTRY MAGAZINE
gifts in memory and in honor of... A memorial gift is a meaningful way to honor someone at the time of death by recognizing that person’s Christian faith and testimony. Similarly, an honorarium is a tangible way of honoring a living person’s testimony. We are thankful for individuals listed below who choose to honor friends and loved ones through a gift that extends the message of Christ through Faith Radio’s ministry. Four ways
MORE THAN A RADIO STATION! by Billy Irvin, Director of Ministry Relations At Faith Radio, we often say that our ministry is much more than just a radio station! Yes, we broadcast the truth of God’s Word all day every day, commercial free, over the airwaves and the internet, but our ministry outreach extends much further. Your investment in our ministry provides for a grief ministry to those who are hurting. Many listen from prison, and you’re helping to provide a very effective prison ministry. Your investment is a parenting ministry to those who need to hear our educational programs about the issues of raising children in a Christian home. To those living alone, or driving alone in their car, they often share how we are a faithful friend who provides tremendous encouragement in their lives. We pray for hundreds of people, churches, and ministries each day. We are here for you! Will you reach out to us and consider investing in God’s Work through the ministry of Faith Radio? Romans 10:14 reminds us, “How can they hear without someone preaching to them?” Your gift helps us to preach the Good News day and night through programs and songs!
