PRAYING FOR OUR COMMUNITIES

FAITH RADIO’S MINISTRY MAGAZINE

1

At this time of year when we focus special attention on and celebrate the Resurrection of Christ, we are reminded that Jesus is at the Father’s side interceding for us. He is our great high priest, and through His work we can boldly approach the throne of God. The writer of Hebrews put it this way,

“ Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:14-16 (ESV) In this issue, we focus on prayer, which is a great privilege of every believer. Even in times of trials and sufferings, we must hold fast to our faith and boldly approach the throne of God, bringing prayers and petitions to Him. Let Faith Radio help you be fervent in prayer for your family, your city, and your world. 2

is something which only the Holy “ Prayer Spirit can teach us. And like art, like music,

like so many other disciplines, prayer is something that can only be appreciated when you actually spend time doing it. Spending time with your Master will elevate thinking. And the more you pray, the more will be revealed, and the more you’ll understand. And you will have joy. So like art, like music, spend some time in prayer. It’s something you learn to appreciate the more you do it.

listener comments PRAYING FOR AND WITH OUR LISTENERS

by Billy Irvin, Director of Ministry Relations At Faith Radio, one of our greatest blessings is having the privilege to pray for our listeners. We often receive requests from our listeners to pray for the specific needs of them and their families. Each morning, we gather together as a staff to pray for these requests, and we often get the opportunity to call and pray with our listeners. We also find joy in sending prayer cards to our Faith Radio family. One listener from Prattville recently shared with us, “Your constant prayers for me, and the Faith Radio prayer cards arriving in my mailbox and blessing me on a day that I need it most, is a sweet encouragement to my spirit.” The programs heard daily on Faith Radio share some wonderful insights

and resources on prayer. A listener from Dothan recently told us about how listening to Faith Radio over the years has greatly grown her prayer life. She said, “I particularly remember Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth sharing two very important things we can do to enhance our prayer life. One was to find a consistent place and time to pray each day, a place with no distractions, including our phones! Number two was to pray scripture back to the Lord.” A mother from Montgomery was sharing how she heard on Family Life Today some practical prayer tips for praying with your children. She now prays with her children on the way to school and at bedtime. A listener from Covington County told us that Charles Stanley helped her to understand that making prayer a priority in her life would provide many benefits, like comfort, guidance, and confidence. She said, “Charles Stanley helped me to understand that prayer is our most profitable activity, and so I put it at the top of my to-do list each day.” At Faith Radio, we want to help you grow your prayer muscles. We also invite you to reach out to us if we can be your prayer partner! 5

We are thankful for our many volunteers who help us so often with our ministry work!

For 3 years now, we have been blessed to be part of a growing group, OurMGM, that meets on the first Saturday of each month to pray for our community, our nation, our schools, and our pastors. It warmed our hearts and spirits on this cold January day to see many people gathering to pray and encourage one another. Will you join us or consider starting a prayer group in your community? We enjoy our fellowship, our walks in local neighborhoods, meeting new friends, but most importantly, crying out to the Lord for His guidance and mercy upon our nation. Stay tuned for more information, and let us know of your prayer events so we can share on Faith Radio! Volunteers are so important to us at Faith Radio! Boyd Deal and Pastor Dave Walsh of Ariton Baptist Church built Christmas Crosses for our ministry, while the Jennings family in Dothan helped us with Christmas Cross distribution in the Wiregrass. We enjoy being out with our listeners and hearing their stories of God’s faithfulness as they prepare to celebrate Christmas!

Many hearts were blessed with the Christmas Memories Tour featuring Natasha Owens! With the help of some very special donors, Faith Radio was able to provide two Christmas concerts to bless our listeners. Natasha Owens, whose music is heard regularly on Faith Radio, greatly touched the hearts of our listeners with her powerful testimony of God carrying her through the tragedy of losing her father in an accident. We are thankful for Trinity Presbyterian Church in Montgomery and Southside Baptist Church in Andalusia for hosting our concerts. We are much more than a radio station! Faith Radio touches thousands of lives each day through our very active social media platforms. You can Like, Follow, and Subscribe to receive daily encouragement from Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Additionally, you can view many of our informative interviews on our YouTube channel.

FOR OUR PRAYER Calling Out to God with Specific Prayer by Bob Crittenden, Director of Special Projects We can be thankful that we have a Savior who has died for us and given us a new life, so that we can walk with a new heart. Out of hearts that are hard and rebellious, that are hostile or indifferent toward God, come all sorts of sinful acts. No one is immune from either being a perpetrator or a victim. We might not get arrested for the sins we commit, but we are guilty all the same - that is why we need a Savior. We regularly come in contact with news regarding crime in our communities, some of which hits close to home. It often seems that none of us are immune. We must recognize that criminal behavior has a spiritual element. The harboring of sinful thoughts and motives can result in the commission of crime. The essence of the crime problem that has seemingly spiked in many areas over the last few years is a lack of devotion to the One who can truly save a soul and transform a heart. If we are feeling helpless, we can remember to respond in prayer. It is gratifying to hear stories of prayer gatherings in areas that have been hard-hit by crime or have been the site of a criminal act. Three years ago, in the aftermath of a drive-by shooting, 8

the first One United Reaching (O.U.R.) Montgomery Prayer Walk was born, and the event has occurred the first Saturday of every month in a variety of locations in Montgomery. Faith Radio has been involved in spreading the word about the event, and our Billy Irvin has served as the Master of Ceremonies. You may feel helpless and discouraged over crime in our society, but there is much we can - and must - do as the Church. Faith Radio desires to motivate the body of Christ to respond to the issues in the communities we serve. Here are four prayer points, which are centered around the word RISE. We can rise above the violence and criminal behavior all around us through the One who is risen from the dead. You will see a Prayer Guide in this Ministry Magazine. Here are the highlights: R - Recognize your placement in your community or area in which you live. I - Identify the strongholds in your area. S - Support those in authority. E - Emphasize prayer in response to societal issues. We can pray for boldness for God’s people to rise up and be involved in being the solution. So, can we - will we - rise to the occasion with the power of the risen Lord? FAITH RADIO’S MINISTRY MAGAZINE

COMMUNITIES: A PRAYER GUIDE FOR OUR COMMUNITIES: R-I-S-E

R

- Recognize your placement in your community or area in which you live.

Acts 17:26-27: He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us. No matter where you are, God has appointed you to be there, and there are opportunities to serve and to display and spread the love of Christ. You can be a light where you are. So, in prayer, we can ask God to give us a greater burden for the people around us.

I

- Identify the strongholds in your area.

2 Corinthians 10:3-4: For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds. People are not our enemy, and we have been given power to pull down strongholds. What are the components that produce the fruit of the flesh, the expression of crime and violence in our communities? The enemy will use brokenness in a number of forms, including family breakdown, economic and other stress factors, a lack of hope and direction, and the works of hate and anger in order to activate the acts of evil that are perpetrated in our society. So, we can pray against these and ask God to direct us.

S

- Support those in authority.

1 Timothy 2:1-4: Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. We can support those who serve in the community to bring peace and safety - that would include people in authority, such as political leaders, law enforcement, and community influencers, like church leaders. We can pray for godly wisdom to be available to produce effective solutions and provide peace and safety.

E

- Emphasize prayer in response to societal issues.

James 5:16: Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. Prayer should not be implemented only after human efforts are exhausted. We can be good examples and pray for open doors for truth to be shared and implemented. We can pray for the Lord to change hearts, because out of transformed hearts come transformed communities. FAITH RADIO’S MINISTRY MAGAZINE

APPLYING PRAYER TO OUR CHALLENGES Meeting House Guests Offer Hope

by Bob Crittenden, host of The Meeting House

When we face challenges in our lives, our families, our churches, and our communities, we can respond by turning to God in prayer. Christ is our source of hope, and when we recognize the promises in His Word and the power of the Holy Spirit, we can trust Him to do incredible things in our midst. We know that God is near to us even in the most difficult of circumstances. At the recent Winter 2022 Christian Product Expo in Charlotte, former NFL head coach and NASCAR team owner Joe Gibbs shared about his faith in Jesus Christ and how he sought the Lord in the aftermath of the death of his son, J.D. He has written a book called, Game Plan for Loss: An Average Joe’s Guide to Dealing with Grief. Also at CPE, I spoke with Carole Leathem, author of Finding Joy in My Messy Life: How I’m Surviving My Husband’s Struggles with Anxiety, Depression and Suicidal Thoughts. She shared about God’s faithfulness to her, as well as her husband, as he walked through

difficulties in his life. Kyle Lance Martin and his wife, Laura Kim Martin, also visited with me at the Charlotte Expo. Their ministry, Time to Revive, has a purpose of encouraging Christians to grow deeper in the Lord and to share their faith. Laura has written two devotional books to help believers study the Bible over a two-year period, entitled, reviveDAILY: A Devotional Journey from Genesis to Revelation. The ministry has also released the reviveBIBLE Gospel-Tabbed New Testament, which includes tabs that help someone share the plan of salvation. There is also a complete Bible available. The ministry’s heart for revival in communities across America is apparent,

and we can be inspired to make sure that we develop a heart for God to move in the area in which we are called to serve. Even in our struggles, we can be confident that God is faithful. In our suffering, God will produce His fruit in our lives. He desires for us to grow spiritually, and prayer is a key component for knowing Him better. 10

programmer’s spotlight We value our partnership with the ministries you hear on Faith Radio and want to keep you up-to-date regarding how God is working through them. Reaching Your World, featuring the late evangelist Luis Palau and his son Andrew, has re-launched as Hope With God. Andrew, who has been involved with the ministry of the Luis Palau Association for more than 24 years, will continue to be heard on the new feature. You will also hear the voice of his wife, Wendy. Check it out at a variety of times each weekday: 3:28 a.m., 11:40 a.m., and 6:28 p.m. Joni Eareckson Tada has produced a daily radio feature, Joni and Friends, through her ministry of the same name, for 40 years. As of May 1, the 4:00 feature, which is heard weekdays at 10:25 a.m., will change its name to Joni Eareckson Tada: Sharing Hope. Her 1:00 feature, Diamonds in the Dust, heard weekdays at 12:15 a.m. and other times on Faith Radio, will be known as A Moment with Joni. Word to the Wise, the radio ministry of William “Bill” Blocker, is a 1-minute feature aired at 10:10 a.m. Monday through Friday. Blocker, who serves as President of the College of Biblical Studies in Houston, Texas, recently appeared on The Meeting House to discuss the biblical education opportunities offered through the college.

GO AND TELL by Billy Irvin, Director of Ministry Relations Isn’t it exciting to share good news with others? Those most joyful moments in life of a new job, a new home, or an upcoming wedding are thrilling to share with your friends and even those you may not know. We all enjoy sharing good news! Salvation is the ultimate free gift, and it comes with a tremendous responsibility. In Matthew 28:19, Jesus gave us the instructions to “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.” Jesus’ last command should be our first priority! As Christians, we should find joy in following God’s instructions to go and tell. Faith Radio is one of the many ways you can share the good news of Jesus Christ. When you give a financial gift to this ministry, you are giving the gift of salvation and sharing God’s love message to thousands of people each day. Your support of this ministry is a way in which you can go and tell because Faith Radio is sharing the powerful Resurrection story of Jesus all day every day. We invite you to give a financial gift today that will be used to share the good news that Jesus is risen!

Similarly, an honorarium is a tangible way of honoring a living person’s testimony. We are thankful for individuals listed below who choose to honor friends and loved ones through a gift that extends the message of Christ through Faith Radio’s ministry.
