he holiday season is an opportune time to express thankfulness for all the Lord has done for us. When we do that, worship and praise flow from our thankful heart. Paul seemed to connect worship and thankfulness when he gave instructions to “be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Ephesians 5:18-20. One unique aspect of Faith Radio is our commitment to play not just modern praise and worship songs, but rich hymns as well. We devote over fifteen hours a day to carefully selected music programming. Beginning the day after Thanksgiving and continuing through Christmas Day, Faith Radio will feature Christmas music. Whether during the holiday season or the rest of the year, we hope that our diverse music selections will help you respond to what the Lord has done with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart.

MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA Thank you for all that you do to spread God’s Word to the River Region and beyond. You have been a blessing to me especially during my cancer journey and the loss of my parents.

MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA I’ve been a faithful listener for about 20 years and your programming has been a wonderful source of learning, encouragement, and joy for me!

“ “ “ “

TALLASSEE, ALABAMA These football schedules are a great resource to open a conversation with others! Thank you!

” ”

ELMORE, ALABAMA Keep it up, love the radio programming while driving. Very encouraging and faith building. SNEED, FLORIDA I’ve been listening to your program on the way to work since the 1990’s. I love it, rejoice in it, and thank God for your station and messages.

PROGRAMMER “QUOTES” “God is in control, and therefore in EVERYTHING I can give thanks – not because of the situation but because of the One who directs and rules over it.” - Kay Arthur “During times of trial, instead of complaining, give thanks! Sing hymns of praise to God and watch the prison bars open for you.” - Tony Evans “No matter what our circumstances, we can find a reason to be thankful.” - David Jeremiah “Government won’t fix marriage, reduce single-parent homes, raise educational scores, halt gang violence, or end poverty. But personal behavioral decisions based on biblical principles, especially related to strong marriages and biblical sexuality, will!” - Jim Garlow “You can’t always control circumstances. However, you can always control your attitude, approach, and response. Your options are to complain or to look ahead and figure out how to make the situation better.” - Tony Dungy

by Billy Irvin, Director of Ministry Relations

“My wife is in the hospital and heard about the Christmas Crosses. She wants me to get one, put it in front of the house and bring her a picture… she’s not sure she will be home for Christmas.” Those are the first words I heard from Bert Estes when I met him while we were distributing Christmas Crosses last year. His wife, Carol Estes, will celebrate this Christmas in heaven, but we were joyously able to make her final Christmas one that fulfilled her desire to proclaim God’s message of Christmas: He came for You! Carol Estes was on the prayer team for the original start of Faith Radio in the early 1980’s. She was blessed in her last days of 2017 to wake up in ICU singing along to hymns played on Faith Radio. Bert has been an advocate and encourager for Faith Radio to expand our ministry work, and encouraged other hospitals to add Faith Radio to their television line up after seeing his wife blessed and ministered to at Baptist Health. Please pray for Faith Radio as we work toward expanding our ministry in hospitals over the next year! Additionally, we will be distributing Christmas Crosses beginning Monday, November 19th across our listening area. Like the Estes Family, you, too, can display a Christmas Cross to make a lasting family memory. FAITH RADIO

............................................... Over 15,000 people enjoyed the En Fuego Christian music festival in Verbena where many came to a relationship with Jesus Christ for the first time.

Our ministry is blessed by the support from the State Combined Campaign, and we enjoyed having the key coordinators of the campaign stop by our studios for a visit.

River Region Ironworks was blessed by the powerful testimony of Kareem McNeal, who boldly shared his faith after a football career ending injury from an automobile accident. He is pictured with John Bush and Billy Irvin.

There is a tremendous partnership with Baptist Health and Faith Radio that includes Montgomery Family Christmas. Ben Kelley and Tommy McKinnon stopped by our studios to share about Chris Tomlin returning to Montgomery November 30th.

Dennis Swanberg joined Billy Irvin and Glenn Cook for a photo during the IronWorks Men’s Conference in Andalusia.

The Faith Radio staff enjoyed visiting with Alisa Turner before her pregame concert at the Montgomery Biscuits for Family Faith Night.

C hristmas S By Bob Crittenden, host of The Meeting House

Many of the songs that we enjoy today have been handed down over years, even centuries, while some come along a bit later. Enjoy this stroll through Christmas music of yesterday and today, with a few stops along the way to focus on certain songs. 1719 700s

Angels We Have Heard on High As early as AD130

According to Ace Collins in his book, The Most Wonderful Time of the Year, in AD 130, the Pope “issued an edict that after a priest read the second chapter of Luke, the congregation should answer by singing, ‘Gloria in excelsis Deo.’” This seems to have been a French hymn, perhaps from the 18th Century, that was translated into English by James Chadwick in 1862.

O Come, O Come, Emmanuel 8th Century

This hymn is from the Latin, Veni, Veni, Emmanuel, and could have its origins in the eighth century. According to Christian History Institute, this carol seems to have originated from a series of Antiphons, or verses pointing to different aspects of Christ. An unknown author turned these into a poem around 1100. Around 1700, it was printed in a song collection, and in 1851, it was translated by John Mason Neale and published.

Hark! The Herald Angels Sing

1739

Silent Night 1818 This carol was written by Joseph Mohr, a priest at the Church of St. Nicholas in the Tyrol region of the Alps. According to Kenneth Ozbeck, writing at CBN. com, Mohr learned that his church organ was broken and would not be available for the special Christmas Eve service. So, he handed his lyrics to organist Franz Gruber, who added the music and played the guitar as the two men sang it that night. The men played the song for the organ repairman, and he spread the carol around the region.

These are just some of the Christmas music from the day after Thanksgivin more modern tunes. Featuring hymn is true not only in the holiday season worship songs, that we hope will help

O Holy Night 1847

This carol has travelled a long and winding road. Composed in France, it was outlawed by church leaders when it was discovered that the lyricist, Placide Cappeau, had walked away from the church and the music writer, Adolphe Adam, was Jewish, according to Jeff Sanders at PJMedia. com. John Sullivan Dwight translated it and brought it to America, where it gained acceptance around the time of the Civil War, especially with his reference to the “slave is our brother.” Years later, on Christmas Eve during the Franco-Prussian War, some French soldiers began to sing it along the battle lines, resulting in a short truce for Christmas. In 1906, Reginald Fessenden playing “O Holy Night” on the violin was broadcast on radio waves, making it the first song ever to be performed live on radio.

Jesus What a Wonderful Child circa 1950

Do You Hear What I Hear 1962 Mary, Did You Know 1991

Mark Lowry, the singer and comedian, co-wrote this popular song in 1984. According to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Lowery was “inspired by a Christmas program he was working on for church.” Buddy Greene wrote the music seven years later and “sang it for Mark over the phone.”

od is continuing to use our dedicated Bible teachers on Faith Radio to minister to you on the air and online while also providing a variety of in-person ministry opportunities. Here are some recent developments from members of our programmer lineup. A full Program Schedule is available at FaithRadio.org in the Programming section. Just months ago, we welcomed Rick Warren, Senior Pastor of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California to our lineup. He is heard weekdays at 2:30pm on Pastor Rick’s Daily Hope. In an e-mail to church members, Pastor Rick wrote, “Imagine all the amazing personal stories of changed lives behind that number! 50,000 individual lives transformed by Jesus since Saddleback Church began. This is unprecedented in history! YOU are likely one of those stories of a Rick Warren changed life...” 52 years following the first major evangelistic event by Luis Palau, the Luis Palau Association returned to the site of that crusade: Bogota, Colombia. Sowing Financial Seeds by Billy Irvin, Director of Ministry Relations

When I make a financial gift to Faith Radio, I like to view it as a seed. An old adage reminds me, “anyone can count the number of seeds in an apple, but no one can count the number of apples in a seed.” Farmers plant apple seeds in hopes of producing healthy trees that yield fruit for decades. A single seed can produce thousands of apples. When you sow by faith a financial seed into the soil of Christ-exalting ministries like Faith Radio, only eternity will reveal the Kingdom impact of your investment. One day when we stand before the Lord, we will fully understand the eternal value and joy of expending our temporary resources for His eternal cause! Won’t you join us in faithfully sowing and reaping in the Father’s fields? Your gifts to this ministry are seeds which allow you to share in the joyous victory of God’s eternal harvest!
