Testimonies of God’s Faithfulness

APRIL-JULY 2020

HE IS RISEN!

A

s we enter into the Easter season, we focus on a distinctive feature of the Christian faith - that we serve a risen Savior! Religions around the globe have made shrines of the burial places of their central figures. But as Christians we do not travel to and worship at the burial place of our God. Our Savior died and was buried, yes, but He rose again and ascended to heaven where he intervenes and intercedes and prepares a place for us. There is tremendous hope in that truth. He is alive and He reigns! Hallelujah!

“Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen.” Luke 24:5-6

God has a habit of using people, their gifts, and their resources to carry out His plans. In fact, we were created to be God’s deputies, doing His work on earth. - David Jeremiah He will not force you to share your faith, but He will prompt you. And when you take that step of faith, He will empower and use you. - Greg Laurie The scientific data points powerfully toward the existence of a Creator, and the historical evidence for the resurrection establishes convincingly that Jesus is divine. - Lee Strobel Time is the brush of God, as he paints his masterpiece on the heart of humanity. - Ravi Zacharias The Bible tells us that Jesus Christ came to do three things. He came to have my past forgiven, you get a purpose for living and a home in Heaven. - Rick Warren

LISTENER “QUOTES” In 2013, we moved from Campbellton, Florida, to Southern Washington after I retired to be closer to our grandson. To say the least, Christian radio stations are few and far between up here. WLBF has saved my sanity by listening to your radio station via the internet. Truly God has blessed your ministry and has given us peace up here. - Washington State The greatest benefit of having the magnets on our cars has been the many strangers who have asked us about Faith Radio and tell us they’ve been looking for a good Christian station to listen to. - Dothan, AL I have loved WLBF since “day one.” I count it as one of my greatest blessings. I have been helped so many times by having my dial set right on it and I have told so many people about the station, and they need to try listening to it. - Prattville, AL

Faith Radio’s Ministry Magazine - April-July 2020

On the cover of this magazine, you’ll see a painting by local River Region artist, Bob Adams. Bob captured Billy Irvin sharing an interview at a book signing and listener appreciation event at Prevail Union in Montgomery. Bob is an artist wellknown in the River Region for painting on the streets of downtown Montgomery for nearly 30 years. Bob uses his talents to spread God’s Word. As tourists come by, Bob is able to share the Gospel through his art. Bob shared, “Jesus calls us to be fishers of men. Art is just the fishing tackle in my box.” Bob is a faithful listener of Faith Radio. He was able to listen with his mother for 20 years, as she lived to the age of 100! Bob’s family has been blessed by the special programs heard daily on our broadcast. Bob shared, “These are perilous times we are heading into, and we need the sound teaching Faith Radio provides to remind us Jesus is in control.”

We are blessed to partner with Family Life and see hundreds of marriages growing in Christ through the Weekend To Remember! Pictured with Billy and Camilla Irvin are Cedric and Pamela Swinney, the Prayer Leaders for the event. We enjoy meeting so many of our listeners during our Cross distribution in Montgomery, Dothan and beyond. This year a group from Florida ordered an entire trailer of crosses!

Fresh Grounded Faith in Enterprise saw over 1,000 ladies blessed by the ministry work of Jennifer Rothschild, Katherine Wolf, and Meredith Andrews. We appreciate the many volunteers it takes to host great events. 6

Share Your Story by Billy Irvin, Director of Ministry Relations

H

ave you ever noticed that we all feed on stories that move us and impact us? Like malnourished children, we hunger for words…and His Word. A few months ago, Faith Radio participated in a book signing and listener appreciation event at Prevail Union coffee shop in downtown Montgomery. Local author Boyd Deal introduced and signed copies of his book, “My Struggle, His Glory.” The book features 40 short story testimonies from individuals, many of whom are from the River Region, who have experienced deep struggles. Several of the subjects in the book were on hand at the book signing to share their stories of God’s faithfulness in the midst of struggles. Boyd hopes that the stories told in his book will encourage others that there is hope beyond your struggles because God has a plan for your life.

A new listener, Kevin, stopped by during the broadcast to share his story of how our ministry had touched his life while serving the military in our area! 8

Becky Stewart sharing her story with our listeners. One of the book’s subjects was Becky Stewart, who was at the event and shared her story with Billy Irvin. Becky and her husband, Chad, lived in Montgomery with their three young children when Chad had an accident and died unexpectedly at the age of 41. Becky was left to pick up the pieces and carry her family forward in the midst of deep grief. She held tight to Romans 15:13, and felt her heart overflowing with peace, comfort and joy. While in the lowest depths of the tragedy’s aftermath, Becky experienced the Lord’s presence and sensed His comfort and personal companionship. Kevin King is another local that is featured on the cover and who attended the event. Kevin started Faith Radio’s Ministry Magazine - April-July 2020

We want to hear your story! The lines of our stories become literal life-lines that we can throw to each other for encouragement and growth. May the words and Word you hear daily on Faith Radio nourish you as God continues writing your story.

a ministry in Montgomery called The King’s Canvas. This ministry focuses on providing a creative space and resources for underexposed and underdeveloped artists in the community. Kevin shared, “The awesome thing about making art is being a reflection of the God who created us to create.” A special part of the event was that local artist Bob Adams captured the event in a painting. The painting appears on the cover of this magazine and shows Boyd, along with Billy Irvin, Becky Stewart, Kevin King, and others.

Mark Williams talked with some listeners who stopped by our event.

SPECIAL BONUS: A donor has blessed Faith Radio with a limited number of copies of Boyd Deal’s book “My Struggle, His Glory”. If you would like to be blessed with a free copy, contact Billy Irvin (334)207-3598 and he will be glad to bless you with a copy.

PROGRAMMER SPOTLIGHT Wife of Faith Radio Programmer Sees “SUNRISE FROM HEAVEN” Recently, our Faith Radio programmer, Dr. Tony Evans, experienced the loss of his wife, Lois Evans. The pastor’s family has reportedly experienced a series of deaths over the last several years. The Christian Post reported on the death of Evans’ father in November and related that his sister, niece, and brother had all passed away within the two years prior to his father’s death. Lois had been diagnosed last year with what was described in the article as a “rare and incurable form of cancer.” The Christian Post quoted Evans as saying: “Just before the sun came up this morning, the love of my life, Lois Irene Evans, transitioned from earth and watched her first sunrise from Heaven.” A CBN.com article reported that Lois Evans, near the time of her departure, tasted of the heavenly realm, and states that at her memorial service, Dr. Evans said, “One of the things that I’ve observed in life and in scripture is that when people walk with God and He doesn’t take them suddenly, He will give them a glimpse of heaven while they’re still transitioning from earth. He will let them know, not only that it’s time, but it’s okay.” Dr. Evans said that Lois said she saw her mother and father, and at some point, spoke the words, “Two days, two days, take me up...” two and a half days before her death. Dr. Evans likened that to Stephen, as he faced being stoned, seeing heaven opened and “Jesus...giving him a standing ovation.” Lois Evans can inspire us to think that a Christian’s departure from this earth is a glorious change of locations. As Billy Graham said, quoted by CBN.com: “Some day you will read or hear that Billy Graham is dead. Don’t you believe a word of it. I shall be more alive than I am now. I will just have changed my address. I will have gone into the presence of God.” 10

The Meeting House Hopes to Trace the Hand of God

by Bob Crittenden, host of The Meeting House We can be encouraged by the stories of individuals whose lives have been transformed, who reflect the presence and faithfulness of God. On The Meeting House program, you have the chance to regularly connect with people’s stories and by so doing, to, as I like to say, “trace the hand of God.” Already in this edition of the Ministry Magazine, we have featured some incredible moments that occurred during a special Meeting House program, with conversations highlighting how God has moved in the midst of people’s struggles. I had the chance to feature the true life stories of people who trusted the Lord, even in their darkest hours. Rhonda Robinson, author of the book, FreeFall, offered encouraging words in the midst of grief Andrew Brunson spoke with Bob and loss after her teenaged son passed away. Similarly, Lee recently at National Religious Warren, a neurosurgeon and author of I’ve Seen the End of Broadcasters Convention in Nashville. You, found himself trying to give people hope when he was struggling with losing his own hope in the aftermath of his son’s death. We do serve a God who gives us hope. Recently, the American pastor who was imprisoned in Turkey, Andrew Brunson, was on The Meeting House program from the 2020 National Religious Broadcasters Convention. Brunson shared his ordeal and God’s faithfulness in orchestrating his release, which he documented in his Quadruple amputee Cyndi Wilkins book, God’s Hostage. Luke Bernard was rescued from discussed her book, Shine On, and God’s death in an accident as his father, Daniel, and many faithfulness after encountering a deadly others prayed for his recovery. His personal experience bacteria. contributed to the script for the movie, The Favorite. Numerous other guests have experienced turnarounds as they have trusted in the love and power of Christ. In conversations from last year’s Christian Product Expo event, I featured Cyndi Wilkens, who encountered a deadly bacteria and lives life without hands or feet, Kathy Collard Miller, who depended on God to help her deal with consuming anger, and Carlos Evans, a veteran who relied on his faith in Christ and dependence on his wife to combat PTSD and the loss of limbs. Kathy Collard Miller shared her story Even when we may feel weak and without the resources about overcoming intense anger through to live the abundant life, we can cling to the outstretched God’s powerbook, and her book, No hand of God, who brings us strength, His strength. More Anger.
