Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week ZUZU KIM - FALL/WINTER 2012 COLLECTION Designer Christina Kim debuted her second collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week under her label Zuzu Kim. Guests mingled and stared in awe at the collection while they sipped SVEDKA cherry martinis. Inspired by classical music composition, Kim’s second ready-to-wear collection - “Romanza” – reflected her background as a concert pianist with several new, strikingly original tuxedo blouses and conductor jackets, which combine stark lines with feminine flourishes of scallops and lace. Employing premium cashmere, chiffon, and lamb’s leather across a vibrant palette of navy, gold, and burgundy, Kim once again found harmony in an array of seemingly disparate elements. Specifically inspired by the second movement of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20 (which the designer listened to as she designed many of the pieces), Kim’s “Romanza” combines lyricism and harmony, delicacy and playfulness, with strains of bold turbulent passion.

ABOUT ZUZU KIM:
The Zuzu Kim label is designed by Christina Kim, a self-taught classical pianist who started her creative odyssey by producing romantic, comfortable clothing for her performances. After studying fashion design at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, she ran a high-end women’s atelier in Chicago before designing for Phoebe Couture and Mary McFadden. At McFadden, she was appointed head designer within one year. In September 2011, Kim presented her first women’s ready-to-wear collection during New York Fashion Week. Entitled “Concerto,” the collection was described as ‘elegantly chic, [and] trendy’ by Lucire, receiving rave reviews in numerous publications. n a classic Hollywood house in Los Angeles, around 200 guests gathered to celebrate Marni s collaboration for H&M, a collection full of Marni’s signature print and colour arriving just in time for spring. Among the guests were Drew Barrymore, Winona Ryder and Milla Jovovich. The event was hosted by Marni’s Founder and Creative Director, Consuelo Castiglioni, the Director of Marni at H&M campaign, Sofia Coppola and Margareta van den Bosch, H&M s Creative Advisor. As well as Drew, Winona and Milla, other guests arriving at the party dressed in Marni at H&M included Jessica Chastain, Freida Pinto and Andrea Riseborough. Guests were given the chance to enjoy an evening in an atmosphere captured by Sofia Coppola’s campaign for the collection, as well as an exclusive performance by Bryan Ferry. “It has been an inspiring night, surrounded by a perfect setting and a great crowd. LA encapsulated the dream! It is not long before Marni at H&M is in the stores, and I am happy to share these magical moments with everybody.” Consuelo Castiglioni, Founder and Creative Director, Marni. “It’s nice to see again the people I worked with on the project for Marni and H&M. With the film I just tried to do something that fitted with the mood of the collection, the fantasy and the fun of fashion”. Sofia Coppola. Marni’s collection for H&M is all about freedom and experimentation, Marni prints and colours are intended to mix and match together in a playful way. Everything goes with everything, making African prints the perfect companion to Bauhaus modernity, and sporty silhouettes sitting with more feminine shapes. The collection also includes a full range of shoes, bags and charming accessories to create a total Marni look at H&M. Meanwhile for men, Marni offers a fresh take on menswear staples, with a subtle use of print and a softened use of colour. “I love H&M and I love Marni. I love how H&M are bringing the regal, chic clothes of Marni to everyone”. Drew Barrymore. “I’m a huge fan of Marni, I have been for years. I love the whole idea of taking high fashion and making it affordable and accessible with H&M”. Winona Ryder “Tonight has been magical. It is as if Sofia Coppola’s campaign for Marni at H&M has come to life with this party in Hollywood. It’s been amazing to see so many personalities wearing the Marni at H&M collection. I can’t wait for these looks to go into stores so everyone can wear them for themselves”. Margareta van den Bosch, H&M’s creative advisor. The collection will be available from March 8 in around 260 stores worldwide, as well as on-line. MARCH / APRIL 2012 25

arah Nasser, currently working as the Anchor of CP24 is always up for adventure be it in her personal life or professional. Emigrating from Tanzania, Africa in the early 1970’s, Farah’s parents embraced Canada and their new home town, Toronto. At a young age when most kids were watching cartoons Farah’s father who himself is a news junkie and proud to watch her in action, made her watch international news with him, using the coverage to educate her about the world and how governments function, why stories were historically significant and how the media is an important facet of democracy. Farah graduated from Ryerson University in Radio and Television 32 MARCH / APRIL 2012
Arts and attended University of Westminster, in London, England for European Media Studies. She interned for CNN in New Delhi, India. A culture shock to be sure for a girl who had spent her life time in Canada, Farah used the opportunity to get acquainted with her origins. Moving on Farah finished her University graduation and was hired as a reporter and anchor at the Toronto Radio at News Talk 1010 (CFRB). Farah Nasser has been an Anchor for CP24
since February 2010 and has reported in Toronto from the time she was 18 years of age. She started her on-air career with RogersTV (Peel Region) then with /A\ Barrie reporting for the Toronto Bureau, in 2006 she joined CityTV/CP24 in Toronto. More than a decade later she feels lucky to work as a journalist calling it “a front row seat to history” both in local communities and events taking place around the world. Following her career moves one does not need to ponder about her ambitions and her drive,

and how people are impressed by her personality and cannot help liking her. Now a familiar face in Toronto, Farah spent numerous hours of each day doing hard work to get there. Some of Farah’s career highlights include reporting on the G20
Summit in Toronto, Air France crash, Hurricane Katrina, the Toronto 18 terror trials and various municipal, provincial and national elections. Anything worth reporting and she has been there witnessing what some day would be history. Off-air Farah spends considerable time volunteering in her community. She sits on the York Regional Police’s Crime Prevention council and often acts as emcee for the force’s events. She helps raise
awareness and funds for the University Health Network’s Arthritis and Autoimmune Research Centre Foundation (AARC). She dedicates time to the Aga Khan Foundation, a charity that provides sustainable solutions for the underprivileged in Asia and Africa. She has visited villages in Zanzibar with the foundation, to witness the foundation’s impact in the lives of people of the villages. Farah met her husband Razid Samdly through the foundation and married him in 2009. Farah lives in the GTA with her husband and on a day off what she enjoys most is just exploring her city, trying new restaurants and spending time with family and friends. MARCH / APRIL 2012 33

How would you describe your Job, would you say it was Perfect? I would say it’s perfect for me. I love people and have been told I’m a good listener. (My husband says I have a sign on my forehead that says ‘tell me your story’ because of the connection I have with perfect strangers). I’m also a big believer of life-long learning and that’s exactly what my job provides – an education. As a journalist, you never know what your day is going to hold or what you’ll have to be an expert on that day. I love that diversity. I’ve had amazing opportunities in my career from covering elections all across the country to being on the front lines during the SARS crisis to asking tough questions during the G20. I feel like I have a front row seat to history.
important part of the job as it allows you to connect with your subject but you have to know how to let go. When I began covering news 12 year ago, I had a tough time with that. I would get very emotionally involved in stories. There are still some that haunt me but with experience you learn how to manage.
What is the toughest thing you’ve had to do professionally? I mentioned having terrific opportunities in my career and seeing things most people won’t have a chance to see. Unfortunately, that also includes the darker side of society – crime and injustice. The toughest thing for me has always been speaking to victims of crime or tragedy and/or their families. Empathy is a very
What have the last few years taught you, would you like to share any of your experiences with our readers? To be fearless, to ask tough questions. My job is to push, to find out the answers that people sitting at home want to know. The G20 was a prime example of that. We put police on the spot. It sure doesn’t make you popular but it’s the purpose of journalism.
If you could take back one career decision, what would it be? There is no specific experience that comes to mind but I began covering news at the age of 18 – and if I could go back and speak to my 18 year old self, I would tell her to listen to her heart more than her head. Sometimes, a ‘gut feeling’ can trump volumes of research, background and advice.

My favorite thing is going for exploring the city with my husband. When we have time we’ll spend a Sunday walking for hours exploring neighborhoods, shops and trying new restaurants”. On the homefront, how has being a career woman effected your family life, and how do you keep it in balance. My family comes first above anything in my life. I am extremely close to my parents; they along with my husband are my biggest supporters and all push me to further my career. My job is demanding, it means constantly being on blackberry and at times missing huge family events but everyone around me is pretty used to it now. My husband is my rock. He’s a big news junkie and has worked and lived all over the world. I’ll often call him when I need context on an international breaking news story.
For the younger generations intending to enter this field what would you say to be prepared for most? Be prepared for people to say ‘no’, to brush you aside. The key is you can’t give up, you can’t get discouraged. I truly believe if you want something enough, you can have it. Be hungry, work hard and smart. Think outside the box. Always be available. It’s not just about being on TV. Most of my job is researching, writing, interviewing. It’s very important to have a good base. Viewers and listeners are smart. They know when you don’t know your subject matter.
“ I’m a bit of a thrill seeker. I've gone skydiving, white water rafting, scuba diving - even repelled down a 200 foot waterfall”.

JEWELRY
Plating in
FashionJewelry The Ins & Outs
A
s the gold prices are sky rocketing, so is the popularity of fashion jewelry. More and more jewelry designers are making their pieces with base metal alloy and plating them so that they look like fine jewelry. The finished piece doesn’t cost as much as gold and is affordable to a lot of buyers. It also gives more versatility to jewelry designers. They can mix a wide range of materials like crystals, simulated gemstones and more with metal alloys, finish it with plating to create a timeless classic jewelry piece. Let us go in depth in the different kinds of plating. Plating is a method of adhering more expensive metals to the exterior of less expensive metals to give the color and appearance of the higher quality metal. This is also called as Electroplating. This started in 1857 with the application on economical jewelry that is costume jewelry. Gold Plating It is a method of depositing a thin layer of gold onto the surface of another metal, most often brass, copper or silver by chemical or electrochemical plating. Different layers like 5 kt (1gm), 2 kt (5gm), 18 kt (3.6gm). 22 kt (4.4gm) and 24kt (4.8gm) are popular in fashion jewelry. (Grams (gm) values are approximate) So when the description on the jewelry piece reads“ 5Kt Gold Plated” that means 5 Kt(I gm) of gold was deposited or coated over the base metal and the piece is priced according to the gold karat plating.
48 MARCH / APRTIL 2012
Silver Plating Silver plating is a method of depositing a thin layer of silver usually 5%,onto the surface of another metal, most often brass or copper by chemical or electrochemical plating. Silver plating should not be confused with Sterling Silver which contains 92.5% silver in a silver alloy or other silver alloys that contain 88% or 35% of silver. Rhodium Plating Rhodium is a precious metal and a member of the platinum family. Rhodium plating can dramatically increase the long term durability, brightness and luster of the finish. It is electroplated on jewelry, to provide a surface that will resist scratches and tarnish, and give a white, reflective appearance. It is mostly found in white gold, silver, copper and other metal alloys. It is now becoming very popular with fashion jewelry pieces. Rhodium Plating is hypoallergenic. Therefore it acts as an extra layer between the skin and the base metal (if the base metal contains nickel) to avoid skin irritation.
Antique Plating In antique plating the high points are polished to contrast with the dark groves to give an appearance of antique finish. Vintage fashion jewelry piecesare reproduced and given an antique look. This plating is mostly seen in Indian traditional jewelry. Is Tone different from Plating Tone is often confused with plating. It means color or finish in fashion jewelry term so when the description on the jewelry piece reads “Gold Tone” it does not mean gold plated it just means gold color. Gold Tone It is gold color given to jewelry that does not contain any gold but makes it look like gold. Silver Tone It is a silver look given to jewelry by dipping it in silver looking substance that forms a top coat. Silver tone does not contain silver. WARM UP
Cold feet during winter? Warm is a place called Glerups
C
ome warm up with Glerups! Glerups slippers from Denmark are made naturally from the warmest wool and all-natural leather sole. From slip-ons, to shoes and booties, Glerups come in styles for everyone! Warm - Glerups footwear is a unique concept based on the idea of using the natural characteristics of wool to its advantage. Unlike most common materials which become cold when dampened, wool releases heat. Natural wool has the ability to give off heat that is five times greater than any other textile fibre, and in this manner, it acts as a buffer against changes in the surrounding temperature and humidity. The qualities of wool become entirely unique when worn directly against human skin; so naturally, it made sense to fashion slippers from this material.
56 MARCH / APRIL 2012
Natural – Glerups are made from 100% natural wool. Glerups select wool that is gently washed in soft water, made into socks and felted with steam to mimic the shape of your foot. Soft calfskin soles protect the slippers for longer wear, while also taking the ‘slip’ out of slipper to provide a whisper soft, yet safe, step. Beautiful - Glerups come in three styles for both men and women. The ‘slipper’ model embodies the classic characteristics of a slip-on indoor shoe. Get the warmth and comfort of on-the-foot 100% wool with the ‘shoe’ model Glerups. The shoe model provides the perfect comfort for colder floor surfaces, and won’t slip off. Finally, for those looking for an all-around insulator, there’s the ‘boot’ style Glerups. The boot offers full foot coverage all the way up to the ankle. This style insulates your entire foot while still allowing bare
feet! Block out the cold with boot style Glerups. Glerups also come in a variety of vibrant, earthy colours, making them a versatile choice that will suit anyone’s personal style. Tim Stacey of Tin Shack explains, “The concept of Glerups is entirely unique. They should be worn with bare feet, yet are still able to keep your feet warm and dry. Wool is also a self-cleaning fabric, so Glerups will maintain freshness by simply letting them air out.” For more information on Glerups or to order your own, please visit www.glerups.ca.

h, family obligations … We’ve all heard about it, and most of us have lived through it at some point or another. It can be a blessing or a curse. Take playwright Terrance Rattigan for example: if it weren’t for his father being so set on him joining the Foreign Office, he might never have written his first hit! His play French Without Tears established him as one of the leading playwrights of the 1930s – a blessing for all playgoers. Ontario’s Shaw Festival is reviving this forgotten gem, thereby adding some ‘ooh la la’ into their 2012 Season . In French Without Tears, a group of young English diplomats attempt to learn French on the west coast of France where the sun is hot, the sea inviting and the girls are alluring.

Ragtime
A Man and Some Women
Unfortunately the mysteries of syntax and pronunciation are far less interesting than the mysteries of sex, romance and seduction. Their labours are distracted by the arrival of two attractive young women: Jacqueline, the engaging daughter of the French tutor, and the delicious Diana, sister of one of the students and a determined man-snatcher to boot. Diana plays havoc with the hearts of all the men who rest eyes on her – until one day she too gets her own
come-uppance. Who knew learning French could be this much fun? Now back to this notion of family obligations, this time in the form of a clever and thoughtful play entitled A Man and Some Women by Githa Sowerby. Though the play is set in the early 1900s, many of us can still relate to what the main character, Dick Shannon, must be going through. He is a man with a rare gift for science and anxious to go to Brazil to investigate
cousin, Jessica: they love each other secretly. One of the sisters witnesses harmless affection between them and makes mischief causing events to unravel in ways no one ever suspected. Both plays are part of what the Shaw Festival refers to as their ‘archeological’ programming wherein they rediscover lost theatrical gems from the past dust them off and give them a fresh new treatment for today’s audiences. The 2012 Season features 11 plays including the hit musical Ragtime, Noël Coward’s Present Laughter and the screwball comedy His Girl Friday. The themes are timeless and transcend the boundaries of race and economic status to reveal what is really at the heart of the human condition. Whether it’s plays by their namesake Bernard Shaw, his peers or contemporary playwrights, the Shaw Festival is known for their outstanding production values and great ensemble acting. And let’s not forget the idyllic setting of Niagara-on-the-Lake where this year many important festivities commemorating the War of 1812 will take place. The Chitresh Das Dance Company & the Asian Art Museum present the world premiere of DARBAR. A new work choreographed and composed by kathak master Chitresh Das. Featuring the Chitresh Das Dance Company and live music by world-class musicians. Held in conjunction with the exhibition Maharaja: The Splendor of India's Royal Courts. The Chitresh Das Dance Company (CDDC) is pleased to announce the world premiere of Darbar, a new work choreographed and composed by renowned kathak master Pandit Chitresh Das. Performed in the format of traditional kathak dance drama,Darbar is presented in partnership with the Asian Art Museum's special exhibition Maharaja: the Splendor of India's Royal Courts. Performances run at the Asian Art Museum's Samsung Hall, March 15-18, 2012. Darbar (translated as “the court”) highlights the artistic renaissance that took place in the courts of North India as well as the methodology of divide and rule utilized by the British to conquer India and eventually dissolve the same courts. The story is loosely based on that of king Wajid Ali Shah, a ruler known both for his decadence and for his revival of kathak. Ali Shah, so distracted by his indulgences, failed to notice that his general was being tempted by the British to betray him. Darbaris both a representation of the rich artistic and cultural legacy of the courts of North India as well as a statement about the responsibility of power and the risk of corruption-concepts still relevant today. “With Darbar I am able to talk about power, about politics, and about art through the tradition of kathak,” said Das. “In kathak lies the art of my message, of movement and dance, of costumes, of finding what happened in India in the 1700s and 1800s that is relevant to modern audiences, whether they be in San Francisco or Mumbai. Just as the Maharaja exhibit explores the power and dynamics of the maharajas, so this art reflects that history and brings it alive for the modern day.” Darbar features the dynamic dancers of the Chitresh Das Dance Company, including Charlotte Moraga, Seibi Lee, Joanna Meinl, Rachna Nivas, Rina Mehta, and Labonee Mohanta. The dancers are accompanied by world-class musicians, including vocalist Debashis Sarkar (vocals), Jayanta Banerjee (sitar), and Ben Kunin (Sarod). Ramesh Misra performs on the Sarangi, a rare bowing instrument that mimics the human voice (the Sarangi player uses the cuticles of the fingers to manipulate the instrument). MARCH / APRIL 2012 83

T
he start of the New Year brings out the forecasters and we can likely expect the usual share of doom and gloom from the media about the real estate outlook for 2012. Despite a few minor blips across the GTA the real estate market has seen 13 years of positive growth. Although the European debt crisis and recession in the U.S. are of concern there appears to be no direct effect on the Canadian real estate market. The housing market has in fact proved resilient so far, in the face of on-going global economic uncertainty. The just released RE/MAX® annual housing marketing outlook examined trends and developments in 26 major real estate markets across the country and found that overall home sales are expected to remain on par, if not slightly ahead, of last year’s levels. RE/MAX credits low interest rates for the housing market’s success, along with tight inventory levels and increased urban demand. The on-going focus on higher density urban development in both Oakville and Milton is expected to result in the creation of a wider range of options when it comes to housing which in turn will impact local real estate purchasing patterns. The continuing flow of first and second time buyers into the region should contribute to an active

ooth Abscess which is a common complaint seen at the dental office can actually be worse than it sounds or presents itself. Patients with these abscesses present to both medical and dental practitioners and sometimes require hospital admissions for drainage resulting in a number of emergency room patient visits yearly. We should all be aware of the possible complications of the common tooth abscess and its course and hopefully this will

get us all aware and informed if we have to deal with one. We are aware on presentations of typical abscesses, their signs and symptoms seen include swelling commonly which is alleviated by applying ice packs. Continuous, sharp shooting, or throbbing pain, redness, nausea, fatigue, vomiting, fever, diarrhea and chills. The culprit tooth is usually very tender while touching and there can be pus drainage, difficulty opening ones
mouth or swallowing, and difficulty breathing or opening ones eye if it is an upper tooth. An acute dental abscess may be painless but still have a swelling present on the gum. It is important to get anything that presents like it checked by a dental professional as it may become chronic and also can spread. A tooth abscess which contains pus that is usually yellowish in color is enclosed around the roots of an infected tooth and becomes

progressively more painful as it presses on the tissues until it either ruptures and drains on its own or has to be drained surgically. Usually the abscess originates from bacteria in the dead remnants of the nerve tissue in the tooth. This can be caused due to deep cavities, cracked or previously treated teeth which have failed. Abscess that is caused by advanced periodontal gum disease are called periodontal and gingival abscesses. In some cases, a tooth abscess that perforates the bone and starts draining into the surrounding tissues creates the local facial swelling and it can affect the lymph glands and follows the path of least resistance, the path is affected by the location of the infected tooth, the thickness of the bone, muscle and may spread either internally or externally. It can continue to become osteomyelitis which is bone infection that is usually aggressive and cellulitis which is spreading infection below the skin surface. External drainage allows pus from an abscess to drain inside or outside the mouth and this type of drainage will immediately relieve some of the painful symptoms associated with the pressure created by the trapped pus. Internal drainage is more of a concern as a growing infection makes space within the tissues and complications requiring immediate hospitalization, IV antibiotics and may even need the abscess to be drained in the operating room under anesthesia. Ludwig's angina, which is a combination of growing infection that involves the floor of the mouth and cellulitis which
closes the airway space causing suffocation in extreme cases, septic shock and can be life threatening. The infection can also spread down the tissue spaces to the mediastinum in the chest which has significant consequences on the vital organs such as the heart. Another complication, usually from upper teeth, is a risk of septicemia (infection of the blood), from connecting into blood vessels, brain abscess or meningitis, cavernous sinus thrombosis which is due to infection spreading to cavity at base of the brain. The tooth roots of the upper teeth are usually in the sinuses which are only inches away from the brain, so an abscess can have serious complications in the upper arch and well as the lower jaw. Hence it is important to treat the dental problem in its initial stages and not wait for it to get more painful or complicated before one makes that appointment. In early stages the tooth can be saved with a root canal therapy or the gum and periodontal disease can be addressed. If the tooth is grossly broken down it can be extracted but the successful treatment of a dental abscess is dependant on the elimination of the offending organisms with use of antibiotics and the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicines such as ibuprofen for the associated pain. Prevention plays a major role in maintaining good dental and general body health. Daily brushing, flossing, mouthwash and regular dental checkups can prevent tooth and gum disease and helps avoid dental abscesses.

Ingredients: 1 cup basmati rice 1 medium onion cut lengthwise 1 tbsp tomato paste 1 medium tomato diced A few sprigs of fresh or dry mint leaves 2 bay leaves 1/2 cinnamon stick 3 – 4 cloves A few cloves of garlic 1 cardamom’s seeds powdered 1 tbsp oil 1 tbsp ghee 2 tsp mustard seeds 1 jalapeno cut in round or per taste 1 tsp turmeric powder 1 tsp of red chili powder or per taste Salt as per taste

Sauté for a couple of minutes, then add the tomato paste, sauté for a minute then add the diced tomatoes. Add other spices, rice and mix well. Now add water which measures a little less than twice the amount of rice. Add the cardamom powder and all the chopped mint leaves, about 1/4 cup, taste and adjust for seasonings. Bring it to a boil, reduce the 92 MARCH / APRIL 2012
flame to medium, give it one pressure and immediately turn it off. Try to release the pressure after sometime slowly but be careful. This ensures the rice grains are separate and not mushy at all. Fluff it with a fork after sometime and once it is completely cool. Do not over mix it. Tastes too good with those whole garlic cloves and all the spices if served as is or even with a side of raita.
Directions: Soak the rice with double the amount of water for at least 30 minutes. Soak the toor dal also is possible with twice the amount of water. In a pressure cooker, heat ghee and add jeera. Then add the green chili, carrots and string beans saute for a few seconds. Then add the rice excluding the water and mix well with the vegetables so that ghee can coat every grain of rice. Now add the toor dal and water. Add the turmeric, chilli powder, salt, black pepper and mix. Cover the cooker with the lid and let the pressure come out at least 5 – 6 times before you turn off the flame. You can open the pressure cooker after about 10 minutes or when the pressure is completely calmed and no hissing sound is heard. Add the bell pepper, corn, peas, swiss chard now and mix well as these vegetables can cook through easily from the heat of the mixture. I also
MANGO RICE Serves 2 Ingredients: 1 raw mango 1 tbsp oil 1/2 tsp mustard seeds 1/2 tsp urad dal 1/2 tsp channa dal 1/2 tsp turmeric powder A few kari leaves 1 dried red chili or per taste 1/2 cup cooked rice 1 – 2 tbsp roasted peanuts Salt per taste A pinch of hing
Directions: Using a grater grate the mango. Heat oil in a wok, add mustard seeds and let it splutter. Then add the urad dal, channal dal let them turn golden brown. Now add the kari leaves, red chili, hing. Add the mango, and cook until soft. Turn off the heat and add turmeric powder, peanuts and mix well. Mix it with the cooked rice, add salt per taste. Serve with a side fried papadum
Murmura Upma Serves 4
Ingredients: 2 cups of murmura 1 medium size carrot diced 1 medium size aloo diced 1 small onion chopped 1 green chili finely chopped 1 small tomato diced 1/2 bell pepper chopped 1/2 tsp haldi powder 1 tsp of red chili powder or per taste 1/2 -1 juice of a lime Salt per taste 2 tsp oil 1 tsp rye or rai 1 tsp urad dal Dhania (herb) for garnish A few kari leaves
prefer the bell pepper to be a bit crunchy so I add it in the end. If you are using fresh corn or peas, add it along with the carrots in the beginning. Top it off with a small dollop of ghee and your hot khichdi is ready to be enjoyed and you won’t even notice that it is made with brown rice.
Directions: Wash murmura and drain the water. Let it sit aside. Heat oil add rye and let it splutter, then add urad dal, let it turn golden brown. Now add kari leaves, onion and sauté well. Then add the carrots & aloo and mix well, sprinkle some water, cover it with a lid and let it cook. Then add the tomatoes, bell pepper, sauté and
then add the spices mentioned. Now add the murmura and mix it gently to coat it with all the spices, squeeze lime juice as per taste. Garnish with chopped dhania. Serve hot. Tastes too good.
