For the past 15 years, Velvet Two Stripes has remained a dynamic force, constantly pushing the boundaries of their music. Comprised of Sophie Diggelmann, Sara Diggelmann, and Franca Mock, the band continues to make significantstridesintheirartisticjourney.

This October, Velvet Two Stripes is set to release their fourth and most diverse album to date. They kickstart this exciting chapter by unveiling the first two singles: The One and Roll The Dice. The trio explains: “The driving guitar and bass take youonawildride,whilethevoicetakesyoudeeper into the dream but not from the dreamer’s perspectivebutfromthenightmare’sperspective.It is a song about desires and conflicts. It is about lettinggooffearinsteadofholdingontoit.”

The exceptional soundscapes on the album were achieved thanks to the collaboration of the trio alongwithtwoprominentfiguresintherockmusic industry - Vance Powell (who worked with The White Stripes, Buddy Guy) and Pete Lyman (who masteredmusicforactslikeTomWaits,Weezer).

We caught up with Franca, Sara and Sophie for a fewquickfirequestions.

Wow, you guys have been rocking it together as Velvet Two Stripes for 15 years! What does your musicaljourneylooklikeovertime?

Sophie: I think because we just kept on going and havingfunandpassionforwhatwedoithasbeena constant progress in performance and songwriting. If you listen to Cloud Seven and compare it to The Oneyoucandefinitelyhearadifference.

Franca:it’slikegrowingafamilyandVTSisourbaby and with every step we take we learn something new that will help us get better in the future, it’s a continuousprocessofprogress.Doingthethingyou love with the people you love and this for all over thistime,that’sthebest.

Sara: Considering that we started our musical journey with a drum computer, I think our development over the last fifteen years has been immense. Not only did every one of us improve on their particular instrument but we did also grow together as a group and learned to listen to each other. You could almost say that we formed some sortofcollectivemindwhenitcomestosongwriting and yet everyone brings their own individual touch toasong.

What was the greatest learning curve when it cametowritingthesingle"TheOne"andthenew album"NoSpellForMovingWater"?

Sophie: Before “The One” I haven’t written down a song idea for quite some time. Taking such a personal experience like a sleep paralysis, recording ashabbysketchonmyphoneandhavingitbecome thesongitisnowfeelsgreat!

Franca: How good it felt to make decisions during the recording process and not constantly overthink everything.

This brings a freshness and coolness to our music thatyoucanhearineverysongonthenewalbum.

Sara: For me it was to keep things simple. I think a lotofthesongstructuresaresimplerthanonformer albums,stillorratherbecauseofthatthesongsfeel more powerful, they have more space to speak for themselveswithoutseemingoverloaded.

How was it working with Vance Powell and Pete Lyman?

Sophie: We were very involved in Vance’s mixing process. He did two songs per day, and we had one hour each time to decide if we liked the mix or not. Itwasaveryintenseweek.Nottomentionthetime difference between Zurich, Switzerland and Nashville.

Franca: It was fantastic! During the mixing of the album, we were in intense contact with Vance and gave him direct feedback on the mixes every day, but we also talked about other things and joked around. It was a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere and a great experience to be involved like that in the mixing process while working with suchlegends.

Sara: I felt a bit intimidated in the beginning, working with such legends. But after the first meeting you kind of realize that everyone is just a human being after all. Otherwise I agree with FrancaandSophie,itwasreallyintensebutalsoalot offuntobethisinvolvedinthemixingprocess.

If you weren't in Velvet Two Stripes, what would youbedoingatthemoment?

Sophie:It’shardtothinkofalifewithoutVelvetTwo Stripes. I’d probably do what I do now when we’re not on the road or in the studio which is working in myartstudioforexhibitionsandopencalls.

Franca: If I weren’t already playing in some other band I probably would start one right away and dreamaboutbecomingacoolrockband.

Sara: Haha yeah I have to agree with Sophie, it’s almostunimaginabletothinkofalifewithoutVelvet TwoStripes.MaybeIwouldworkandliveinawildlife sanctuarysomewhereinthewilderness.

What is the most valuable material asset you have?

Sophie:That’sprobablymyFano.

Franca:My70sfenderprecisionbass.

If you could blink and be somewhere you like bestnow,wherewouldthatplacebe?

Sophie: Somewhere sunny, I don’t care where! The weather here has been awful the last couple of weeks.

Franca:AtthewestcoastinPortugal.

Sara:ProbablyatafjordinSweden.

After fifteen years in the music industry, what frightensyou?

Sophie: To burn out. It’s impossible to go with the pace of the industry without damage. Writing and recording a good song takes time and shouldn’t be rushedjustforprofitandopportunities.

Sara: I fear running out of creativity someday. After every album I feel that I won’t be able to write another riff or idea for a song. Luckily, up until now there’s always been a new idea just around the corner, sometimes you just have to look a little bit harderandpushyourselftotrynewthingsaswell.

Franca: There is still not much happening to seriously promote women in music and offer them properopportunities,andunfortunatelythereisstill alongwaytogotoachieveequalityinmusic.

What is the one song you wish you could have writtenyourself?

Sophie:TheChainbyFleetwoodMac.

Sara:SevenNationArmybyTheWhiteStripes,Ijust find it fascinating how this song transpired into so manydifferentworlds.

Whatwouldyourfanslikemorethananything?

Sophie: I guess that we tour in more countries than currently Switzerland, Germany, and Austria. But who knows to what new places the new album will takeus.

Whatkindofmusicareyousecretlyinlovewith?

Sophie: I’ve been listening to a lot of Cumbia lately because I also work for a Mezcal brand. I’m quite fondofitbynow.

Franca:I’mreallyintotraditionalCubanmusic,Latin American music and old Italian singer-songwriters from the 60s.

Sara: Not sure if it’s really a secret but I love movie soundtracks. There’s just something about how the film composers manage to convey feelings and emotions whilst telling a story and directing you towardsacertainmood.

If you were able to have a superpower, what woulditbe?

Sophie: To be able to read a book in 2 seconds. I have so many great books I want to read but my attentionspansuckssoIveryrarelyfinishabook.

Franca: To stop the time so I could learn new instruments.

Sara:Iwouldlovetobeabletomovefreelybetween spaceandtime.Notonlycouldyougobackintime orevenseewhatwastherebeforeyou,butitwould also make traveling a lot easier. Imagine touring if youcouldjustsnapyourfingersandyou’dbeatthe venue,thatwouldopenupalotofpossibilities.

catGRINZ isaNorthernCaliforniaartistwhonow lives in L.A. She began to engage in music at a youngage,thankstoherparentswhomadeher discover classic artists such as Fleetwood Mac, EltonJohn,NirvanaandFrankSinatra.

catGRINZ drops her brand new song Easily Erased, her singing is so captivating, and the production style perfectly enhances it - it's really sweetandfulloflove.

catGRINZ explains: “Easily Erased is about being hurt by the people I loved and how those experiences made me scared to love again, but bycuttingthosepeopleoff,itleadmetoabetter placeinmylife.”

Devilisdefinitelyoneofthosesongswhichwill fitthemoodyouneeditto.Ioriginallywroteit atatimewhereIfeltlikeIwaschasingalotof bad people and negative things in order to avoidtheshitthatwasreallyhappeninginmy life.

Ifeellikeeveryonecankindarelatetothatand although it can be a bit of a bad feeling, it’s always important to remember you can get backupnomatterhowlowyoumightfeellike you’vefallen.

It’s got hints of Led Zeppelin, Arctic Monkeys, Steve Lacy & Grandson. Personally, I’ve been blastingitwhileI’mgettingreadytogooutfor some extra confidence, or at Uni/The Gym haha.

How did it feel to work with Balthazard on producingyournewsong?

Asalways,sickashell!

Balthazard and I actually starting working togetheronprojectsshortlyafterbothmoving to London in 2021, and Devil was actually one offirsttuneswestartedcollaboratingon.

The process felt so organic and our creative influencesanddirectionsareclearlyaligned,so the vision was there from the beginning and weelevatedittogether,whichisalwayssucha powerfulexperience.

We have great artistic chemistry, and we’re also super good mates which definitely helps withthecreationprocess.

Whatwouldbeyourperfectday?

MyperfectdayisdefinitelyaSaturday,endof Junekindavibe.

Like, It’s hot but you can still breathe normallyyougetme?

Wakingupnottooearlycuzsleepingintops basically everything, then heading out for a walk and getting some food in a park or something,lookatnatureforaminute.

Havesomematesoverintheafternoon,play some records, light some incense, make some drinks and head out to a indie gig in whichever hole in the wall bar, generally in east.

Finish the night in a blurry haze, all head back to mine and debrief of the top stories forthenight.

You started performing when you were 11. Did youalreadyconsideritapotentialprofessional careeratthatyoungage?

Atsuchayoungage,childrensimplyfollowtheir dreams and pursue what brings them joy without fully comprehending the concept of work. Back then, I just wanted to sing, and I didn't contemplate the future implications. Looking back, choosing this path has been the bestdecisionI'veevermade.

You won "Young Voices of Albania" and "Young Voices of Shkodra" twice. You also represented Albania at Eurovision 2009 as the youngest performer, having won the 2008 RTSH Festival.
