Hence the reason, perhaps, that for potential home buyers, the kitchen is the room that can make or break the sale. Being truly happy in our home space has meant making certain adjustments and making sure everything works for us aesthetically as well as regarding saving time and energy. This has prompted us to include some informational pieces on these topics in this issue. Whether it’s going the washer/dryer combo route to save space and energy, or cutting down on time but still producing nutritiously delicious meals by using those amazing little kitchen gadgets like the airfryer, juice extractors and smoothie makers, there’s something for everyone. Margaret’s newly launched Vegan Cook Book – look out for some tempting teasers on page 18 – is packed full of healthy meal ideas. Consuming a plant-based diet has made a huge difference to my health. I feel so much fitter and seem to have more energy than some people half my age. However, it’s not an easy route. It takes a lot of discipline, courage and preparation. My book shows that you don’t have to eat boring food if you’re vegan. BEAN THERE FAIR TRADE COFFEE
COMING SOON
If you buy your coffee machine from Hirsch’s, it makes sense to buy your beans from them at the same time. Bean There coffee – a roaster of single origin African Direct Fair Trade coffee – is available in different size bags in all Hirsch’s stores. The Direct Fair Trade model means producers receive a fair payment for their coffee through equal engagement, regardless of market fluctuations, which ensures their community development and empowerment. When considering the quality and taste of coffee, it’s important to note that across the world the best quality coffees grow in tropical and sub-tropical regions, in rich volcanic soil and at high altitudes. Bean There coffees are grown in the rich volcanic soil of the mountains of the Rift Valley (central Africa), but they all taste quite unique, and these unique characteristics can be attributed to the tree varieties.
MIELE CM 6150 Miele’s CM 6150 free-standing bean-to-cup coffee machines are designed to make a wide variety of coffee specialties. ComfortClean technology ensures that the many machine parts can be easily cleaned in the dishwasher.

of these beautiful pieces. When she started her business 30 years ago, the late Carrol Boyes’ fascination with sculpture and the human form led her to produce unusual pewter-handled cutlery and other items which she made at home and sold at Cape Town’s Greenmarket Square. The public quickly fell in love with her quirky and functional products, and within three years Carrol was making and selling around 70 000 items a year. To meet the demand, Carrol built a factory on her father’s farm in Limpopo and trained a local workforce, becoming one of the largest employers in the area at the time. An aluminium foundry enabled

her to create much larger sculptures, and in 2000 a stainless steel division introduced dishwasher-proof cutlery to the range. Soon, Carrol began to work with other specialist manufacturers, and many new materials were introduced, including wood, leather, glass, ceramics and textiles. Carrol applied her style to many different items over the years, expanding into a range of wine, chocolates and bath and body care products. Now under the leadership of her brother Charles, Carrol Boyes products can be found in homes around the world. H

asher-dryer combos combine a front loader washing machine with a tumble dryer and are usually the same size as a normal washing machine and feature the same programmes – both on the washing and the drying front. Let’s take a
look as some on the washer-dryer combos Hirsch’s have on offer.
LG SILVER WASHER DRYER LG’s all-in-one washer and dryer saves space in your home, and best news of all is that with the ThinQ smart technology, you can manage your laundry from your device. It has a maximum wash capacity of 12kg and dry capacity of 8kg. The energy efficiency rating is an economical A and the noise level almost indiscernible. HIRSCH’S CODE: 66554SUP

CLEANING TIPS FOR YOUR MACHINE ¥The outside of the machine must be wiped regularly. Keep the washing powder dish clean. ¥Don’t under or overdose with washing powder. Follow instructions on how much is required per load. ¥If using fabric softener, dilute with water to stop it from clogging up the pipes. ¥To loosen grime in the machine, once a month, run on an empty cycle with hot water and two cups of vinegar. ¥Put your small items (socks and underwear) into a pillowcase to wash them. ¥Separate colours from whites and wash separately. ¥Check pockets before putting clothing into washing machine.

WHIRLPOOL’S WASHER DRYER Whirlpool’s Washer Dryer is equipped with an option that helps protect colours by washing in cold water at (15°C). The Steam Refresh function helps refresh garments, neutralises unpleasant odours and relaxes the fibres by delivering steam into the drum. Whirlpool’s Wash & Dry 45-minute function allows you to wash and dry lightly soiled cotton and synthetic fibre garments quickly – this cycle washes and dries a laundry load of up to 1kg in just 45 minutes. HIRSCH’S CODE: 57742
DEFY STEAMCURE WASHER DRYER The Defy7/4 SteamCure Washer Dryer saves time, space, money and energy. It includes the innovative SteamCure™ technology, which means even the toughest stains and strongest odours are eradicated by the burst of steam. And, once a cycle is nearing completion, a final burst of steam softens creases for quick and easy ironing – if at all. HIRSCH’S CODE: 70952SUP
MIELE WTF130 WPM PWASH 2.0 WASHER-DRYER Miele’s WTF130 washerdryer has a 7kg load capacity for washing, and 4kg for drying, and with its PowerWash technology offers a high level of cleaning performance. Thanks to the honeycomb drum, laundry is handled extremely gently, and the revolutionary SteamCare technology ensures that up to 50% less ironing is needed. H
