Black & White Photography can convey a mood, story, visual art better than colors photos. The absence of the colors sometimes would give more impact on photos, not every photo will look better in Black & White. There are several matters we should understand before we make black & white photos, for examples: the subject, shape & form, pattern, texture, composition, lighting direction, exposure, etc. Since there are a lot of Interesting Black & White photography genre from each photographers with their own style. In this 10th edition, we bring back Black & White photography for you, and I hope you can enjoy this edition. Our previous Black & White Photography issue: www.ffmagz.com/issue/5 Foto Hitam dan putih lebih dapat menyampaikan mood, bercerita, dan memiliki bahasa visual yang lebih baik dari pada foto berwarna. Dengan tidak adanya warna kadang kala dapat memperkuat sebuah foto kadang sebaliknya. Tidak semua foto akan terlihat lebih baik apabila di jadikan hitam putih. Ada beberapa hal yang perlu di perhatikan dan di pahami sebelum memutuskan untuk membuat foto hitam putih diantaranya adalah: subject, bentuk dan rupa, pola, teksur, komposisi, arah cahaya, exposure, dll. Karena foto hitam putih memiliki banyak sekali genre yang sangat menarik, dan memiliki ciri khasnya dari masing masing fotografer. Black and white photographs have more emotion, which demanded to delve any deeper into the picture in order to capture its meaning. 1. Shoot with RAW files RAW files enable us to control and adjust colors in post processing. 1. 3. Waktu untuk memotret foto hitam putih Waktu yang paling tepat memotret foto hitam putih adalah pada situasi cahaya yang tidak terlau terang. Memotret dalam cuaca mendung atau berada dalam ruangan yang sedikit cahaya akan menciptakan sebuah simulasi atmosphere yang sama jika berada dalam studio, karena karakter cahaya yang merata.

4. Composition Applying fundamental composition technique in color photos or black and white photos is basically the same. But in black and white photos we have to be able to present a very dominant POI. Because black and white doesn’t offer much colour variant to attract the audience. 4. Komposisi Pada dasarnya tekhnik pengaturan komposisi dalam foto berwarna dan foto hitam putih sama. Tetapi dalam foto hitam putih, kita harus dapat menampilakn POI yang sangat kuat. Karena foto hitam putih tidak menampilkan banyak variasi warna, yang bisa menjadi daya tarik tersendiri.
5. Component The most important component in black and white is how to present a line, curve, pattern, shadow and some textures, which able to be presented as an interesting object. Such as rustic object, old building’s details, ancient stuffs or wood textures. 5. Komponen Komponen yang paling utama dalam foto hitam putih adalah cara kita menampilkan garis, kurva, motif, bayangan dan macam-macam tekstur, yang dapat ditampilkan menjadi sebuah hal yang menarik. Misalnya: benda berkarat, bangunan tua, barang antik atau guratan kayu.

Couple of years later, he decided to join one of local Indonesian Photography Community website, and then he bought his first DSLR in August 2009. At that time, he doesn’t have any idea what to make with his camera. So he just tried to do some conceptual still life shots with very simple lighting method. Then he observed some artistic moody shots from several good photographers on several websites, got interested to try that genre and doing that stuff until now. What is Art of Composition? Composition is an arrangement of basic elements of photography in a photo, in order to deliver the message effectively and understandable. Bogor, West Java, Indonesia Johanes Januar discovered photography in 1995, at that time mostly for documentation. He was one of the first students in Canon School of Photography with instructor the late Mr. Kumara Prasetya. Some of his class-mate: Yusuf Paulus, Warren Kiong, Suherry Arno, Hartono Tjahjadi, Albert R. Ginting, etc. Johannes Januar mengenai fotografi pada tahun 1995, pada saat itu hanya sebagai alat dukumentasi. Ia merupakan angkatan pertama Canon School of Photography dengan instruktur Alm. Kumara Prasetya yang pada masa itu masih menggunakan kamera analog. Teman-teman seangkatannya antara lain: Yusuf Paulus, Warren Kiong, Suherry Arno, Hartono Tjahjadi, Albert R. Ginting, dll.

In year 2010, he joined Premium Mentor Series (PMS) as one of the senior mentor until 2012. Now he almost 70 years old and spent a lot of his time at home and still active as a lecture/ consultation for art photography in Bogor. For him, photography is very interesting and exciting caused it could fulfill his sense of art. Pada tahun 2010, ia bergabung dengan Premium Mentor Series (PMS) sebagai salah satu mentor senior hingga tahun 2012. Saat ini ia telah berusia hampir 70 tahun, memiliki banyak waktu di rumah dan aktif melakukan pembimbingan bedah foto di lokasi kediamannya di Bogor. His work has been published in several books and magazines, including Motivate Publishing’s “Forty Three Photographers” book in the UAE (United Arab Emirates). He has also won and received Honourable Mentions in several world-renowned photography competitions including PX3 and the International Photography Awards. Education: BSc (Honors) in Computer Engineering 2006 and Diploma in Film Making from NYFA 2012.
