Many incentives are offered for successful applicants upon acceptance of the conditional offer, and these include: 1) paid travel to Manitoba; 2) paid licensing; 3) accommodation and settlement allowance for 3 months; 4)paid immigration support and guidance throughout the move to Manitoba; 5) workplace onboarding, orientation and buddied mentorship; and 6) access to paid programming when additional bridging is required.

As of this date, there are 150 successful candidates who passed the interview.

Labor and Immigration Minister Jon Reyes said in an interview: "Manitoba is here because we are here on a mission to recruit nurses and health care workers. We are trying to get 300 nurses,150 this year and 150 next year."

Meanwhile, the Department of Health airs concern about the recruitment of nurses going on by rich countries like New Zealand, Australia, and Canada.

Meanwhile, Department of Health Officer-in-Charge (OIC)

Undersecretary Maria Rosario S. Vergeire, switched an alarm on the rising interest in the recruitment of nurses. She said: " It is quite alarming because of what is happening right

now, that we will lose many nurses in the coming days, weeks, months, and years and this will drain our country". Vergeriere suggested that in the future, a bilateral labor agreement must be implemented to develop conditions for the recruitment of nurses.

According to the OIC of DOH Vergeriere, there is a shortage of nurses. At present, there are 178,000 but the health system needs at least 350,000 need right now is more than 350,000 nurses.

Do the early rumblings try to shake the foundation of BBM administration

Random interviews with ordinary people resulted in mixed views

And this popular adage, "utang ng loob" is so strong to hamper his effective and efficient management of the country's affairs? To some critics in a quiet mode, these people are puppeteers, holding the strings of a puppet to perform.

Two months before President Bongbong Marcos's one- year anniversary as the 17th president of the Republic of the Philippines, a few critics aired their concerns on what is happening in the country and added to this, many ordinary Pinoys, some had voted for BBM as president, have been voicing out that BBM promised for lower commodity price on the basic needs of the people seemed to be just an empty promise, just to get their votes. BBM failed them and considered another circus at the executive level.

Is it true that the group of men close to him, who helped him to win the presidential election, for those who voted for him in block voting are people who have tied BBM's arms to run the country as if these human forces are running the presidency?

President Bongbong Marcos needs advisers, consultants and confidant to run the presidency, and being so young to be the 17th President, he needs people to help and aid him to run the presidency effectively and efficiently.

Then came the horrendous price of onion which skyrocketed to PH800 per kilo due to the shortage of local supplies. And then the illegal importation and smuggling of sugar, both are basic needs of the people.

These increasing prices of onions and shortage of sugar brought suspicious concerns that tied up when President BBM had chosen to be the interim Secretary of Agriculture. The high prices of agricultural products inside Malacanang undertakings?

Agriculture has not progressed so fast as the government has intended, giving a glowing picture of problems

due to the marketing of agricultural products, like no syncronationzation of planting of vegetables, poor warehousing, and the presence of middlemen, and to top it all off, some natural disasters like typhoons which are the greatest enemy of the fishermen and farmers. BBM had chosen to be the Secretary of Agriculture to give him a closer look at the perennial problems facing the farmers and fishermen, and to implement initiatives to increase production.

"Why does BBM travel a lot to foreign countries? According to some I interviewed, they said that BBM must stay in the Philippines to solve the problems of the people.

"Travel nang travel, dapat tutukan niya ang mga problema ng bayan."

Many have noticed the many travels of BBM to foreign countries for the purpose of inviting investors to establish businesess in the Philippines which would lead to more jobs for the Filipinos; and to contrast former

President Duterte who had never traveled, BBM wants to re-establish friendships and economic cooperation.

"Wala ding nangyayari, katulad ng mga smuggling ng mga sibuyas at asukal, eh bakit nangyayari ito. Ibinoto ko siya dahil sa pangako niya," parang wala nang pag-asa ang bayan natin, marami pa din mahirap," my taxi driver told me while cruising along Aurora Blvd, at 11 pm, after I attended a function at the Manila Hotel.

My last interview is subject to debate. Carlos, lugaw vendor said: " Nothing is being done to help the poor, but for the sake of my support to BBM, I am happy that a man is the president of the Philippines. You cannot expect good government from a woman president."

Are these rumblings creating some cracks in BBM administration?

One guy said: "Wait for three years, if nothing happened, start shaking the BBM foundation."

Patience is a political game.

Tech Thursday: The Power of Connection

Last month, I had the awesome opportunity to share recruiting insights at Tech Thursdays and a popular weekly event in Winnipeg's bustling tech sector event scene. Tech Thursdays take place at the Kings Head Pub and it's a great place to connect with peers and other industry players. In my talk, "The Power of Connections" was an opportunity to share the importance of building recruiting connections to advance one's career

Here are five reasons why connections with recruiters are important:

Access to Hidden Job Opportunities

Recruiters often have access to job openings that are not publicly advertised. By building a relationship with a recruiter, candidates can get access to these hidden job opportunities and potentially find their dream job.

Industry Insights

Recruiters often have a deep understanding of the industry they are recruiting for. By building a relationship with a recruiter, candidates can gain industry insights, learn about market trends, and identify areas where they need to upskill.

Feedback on Resume and Interview

Skills

Recruiters review numerous resumes and conduct many interviews daily. They are experts at identifying what makes a resume stand out and can offer valuable feedback on a candidate’s resume and interview skills. Candidate Advocacy Recruiters often act as an advocate for their candidates. They can communicate a candidate’s strengths and accomplishments to a potential employer, which can help candidates stand out from the crowd.

Long-Term Relationship Building

By building a strong connection with a recruiter, candidates can develop a long-term relationship that can be valuable throughout their career. Recruiters can offer advice on career progression, connect candidates with industry leaders, and provide guidance on navigating the job market.

In closing, I encourage candidates, recruiters and hiring managers to attend networking events, connect with recruiters on LinkedIn and don't hesitate to reach out for advice on career paths. Ultimately, we want to help job seekers land their dream jobs.

Tech Thursdays are put on by the Winnipeg tech community, with support from Neo Financial and SkipTheDishes. Our community sponsors are North Forge Technology Exchange, New

Ultimate New Wave Evolution (& closely related styles) part 31

Sa Úgoy ng Músika

One style of music that I really love, especially when I'm in a somber or romantic mood, is what many regard as Sophistipop--a portmanteau of 'sophisticated' and 'pop.' It is best characterized by its mix of Light Jazz, Soul, New Wave, and, of course, Pop. More often than not, the instrumentation is highlighted by or embellished with acoustic

guitar, piano, woodwind, horn, and/ or bowed string instruments--either organically or synthesizer-generated or a combination of both. The tempo of the songs are typically slow or, at the least, mid-range--New Romantic Pop balladry at its most classy and melodramatic.

This set consists of albums containing songs that fit the Sophistipop

description. They may not be New Wave proper, but many enthusiasts of the genre love them anyway and regard them as part of the whole spectrum.

Revisiting 'Electric Dreams' {in memory of Miles}

Sa Báwat Páhinâ ng Pánitikan

Aside from listening to music and reading books, watching movies is another of my favorite pastimes since I was a kid. I still remember many of the the movies that I first saw in the 1970s. The ensuing decade, however, has most of the films that had a lasting impression on my memory--primarily because that time was my teenage years. Here is one of my most-favorite films of the 1980s.

The time must have been the summer of 1985 when I first saw the film 'Electric Dreams' on Betamax--whose theatrical release was the year previous to that. It remains one of my Top 5 '80s Young Romance movies, along with 'The Last American Virgin' (1982), 'Valley Girl' (1983), 'Some Kind of Wonderful' (1987), and 'Can't Buy Me Love' (1987).

Starring Lenny von Dohlen

(Miles Harding) and Virginia Madsen (Madeline Robistat), 'Electric Dreams' is about the bizarre love triangle that develops among Miles, Madeline, and Miles's computer named Edgar. It is a prime example of an '80s romantic comedy--sprinkled with

lots of funny moments but also glazed with heartbreaking and tear-pulling scenes.

But, most of all, 'Electric Dreams' has a very awesome soundtrack! My favorites are "Love Is Love" by Culture Club, "The Duel" and

"Madeline's Theme" by Giorgio Moroder, and of course, the main song, "Together in Electric Dreams" by Philip Oakey & Giorgio Moroder. In Memoriam

HOLIDAY MOUNTAIN SKI RESORT, La Riviere, Manitoba: A REVISIT

Unseasonably warm temperature on Sunday, 12 February 2023 was sufficiently enough to be a valid reason for winter enthusiasts like us to go skiing, whether alpine or cross-country, and snowboarding.

Heading to Holiday Mountain Ski Resort roughly one and a half hours southwest of Winnipeg to quench the thirst to slide down the slopes is actually a revisit to the resort having been here several times before. As posted at Global News, the ski resort was forced to close last winter season due to Covid-19 restrictions and then reopened last 26 December 2022 under new ownership, Paul and Renee Warkentin.

Situated at Manitoba’s Pembina Valley, Holiday Mountain Ski Resort is nestled in La Riviere, a town of 228 people living in 110 of its 134 total private dwellings. Founded in 1886 by Metis Franco-Manitobans who are predominantly English speaking, La Riviere was previously

home to Hamm-tone Guitars and Mandolins and the Pembina Valley Guitar Building Course. However, travelers can still have their photos taken here at the Wild Turkey Statue, the icon of La Riviere, built to commemorate the community’s centennial in 1986.

Holiday Mountain Ski Resort was founded by Noel Later in 1959 becoming the oldest ski resort in the province of Manitoba. A prarie province of vast flat plains it may be hard to believe that the province has mountains or hills to downhill ski; however, there are valleys where slopes and hills are plenty. As the new general manager of the resort, Abe Sawatsky, says, “Holiday Mountain Ski Resort is an iconic place in Manitoba, a hidden gem in the valley that doesn’t really feel like you’re here in Manitoba – it’s so beautiful”.

Holiday Mountain Ski Resort boasts the first snowmaking system, the first chairlift and the first snow

camera in Manitoba. The founder’s favourite achievement though is the installation of the first Carpet Lift that may have revolutionized alpine skiers jus learning the winter sport. The Wonder Carpet Beginner does not require the new learner to hand- grab the rope tow to climb the bunny hill - just step onto the carpet and comfortably glide to the top of the hill. So great for beginners!

The resort offers alpine (downhill) and cross-country skiing and snowboarding, now the craze of the younger generation. Holiday Mountain has eleven (11) ski runs/ trails that are all named after the people who helped the founder with the creation of the resort – Deacon, Nowak Express, Irving, 4 Ridley (the green easy favourite), McCoubrey, Groff, Turner, Bunny Hill, Reid, Champagne Bowl, and Barclay Bow.

La Riviere is not only a haven in winter but also in summer for hikers, bikers and canoeists to enjoy the hills and the winding Pembina River.

Ski chairlift tickets, full day for adults, cost Canadian$51; youth (13-17), student (ID required), and military (ID required) $46.; Junior (5-12), Senior (65+) $32; and Tiger (1-4) is Free. Lift tickets are plus 5% GST. Helmets are optional. Should

you choose to wear one (for head protection) they have them available. Night skiing, 7-10 pm on Fridays and Saturdays, costs $32. If you are skiing for more than a day, on-site accommodations at the A-Frame cabins located at the base of the resort can be booked in advanced. See you at the mountain. Have fun and enjoy safe SKIING!
