17. Lausitzer FilmSchau

Seit 2003 veranstaltet das FilmFestival Cottbus die Lausitzer FilmSchau, vormals Cottbuser FilmSchau, die jedes Jahr am Montag vor Beginn des FFC stattfindet. Das kleine Prä-Festival versteht sich seit Beginn als eine offene Leinwand für Filmschaffende aus der Nieder- und Oberlausitz, deren bis zu 20-minütigen Filme nicht im kommerziellen Kontext entstanden sind. Damit bietet sie eine ganz besondere, individuelle Sicht auf die Region und ihre Bewohner. Bereits mit dem Startschuss erlebte die Lausitzer FilmSchau nicht nur eine erstaunliche Besucherresonanz, sondern ein ebenso überraschend hohes filmisches Niveau.

Wegen des Besucherandrangs wurde die Veranstaltung 2007 aus dem Wintergarten des Restaurants Zelig in das Filmtheater Weltspiegel verlegt, wo sie seitdem vor vollen Rängen jährlich gute zwei Stunden Filmprogramm präsentiert – zwischen Fiktion und Dokumentarfilm, vom selbstironischen Gag bis zur hintergründigen Reflexion. 2007 wurde neben dem Publikumspreis auch erstmals ein Hauptpreis durch eine unabhängige Jury vergeben. Seit 2014 geht ein Sonderpreis an einen Beitrag, der die in der Region beheimatete slawische Minderheit der Sorben/Wenden bzw. die Zweisprachigkeit in der Lausitz thematisiert. In diesem Jahr wird die Lausitzer FilmSchau 17 und vergibt auch wieder eine Preisskulptur an die Gewinner.

17th Lusatian FilmShow

As of 2003 the FilmFestival Cottbus has organised the Lusatian FilmShow, formerly Cottbus FilmShow, an event which takes place on the Monday prior to the opening of the festival. Since its inception, this mini pre-festival has seen itself as an open screen for filmmakers from Lower and Upper Lusatia whose up to 20-minutes films were not made in commercial context. It thus offers an unique, individual perspective of the region and its inhabitants. From the start the Lusatian FilmShow has proven not only hugely popular amongst audiences, but also shown an ability to attract works of remarkable artistic merit.

Due to this popularity the event was moved in 2007 from the winter garden of the Zelig restaurant to the Weltspiegel cinema, where it has been presenting a good two hours programme every year since then – covering genres as diverse as fiction and documentary film, and approaches that range from self-depreciating humour to profound reflection. The year 2007 also saw the introduction of a Main Prize, conferred by an independent jury, alongside the long-established Audience Award, whilst in 2014 a Special Prize was initiated, the latter going to a submission that thematises either the Sorbs/Wends, a Slavic minority native to the region, or bilingualism in Lusatia. This year the Lusatian FilmShow turns 17 and again, like last year, awards a prize sculpture to the winners.

A WARM DAY A WARM DAY LOUIS BECK, MORITZ DEBERTIN, DE 2018, 6 MIN Zwei junge Leute lernen sich auf einer Party kennen und möchten sich wiedersehen. Doch nichts ist wie es scheint. Two young people get to know each other at a party and want to meet again. But nothing is as it seems.

MAKING OF AN ACTOR MAKING OF AN ACTOR DARIA HANNIG, MARCO MEHRINGER, DE 2018, 20 MIN Angewidert von den Illusionen der Filmbranche, beschließt der junge Schauspieler Luke, sich auf die Suche nach der Wahrheit zu begeben. Disgusted by the illusions of the film industry, the young actor Luke decides to search for the truth.

ANKUNFT ARRIVAL FALK HOYSACK, DE 2017, 5 MIN Die Schriftstellerin Brigitte Reimann lebte und arbeitete in den 60er-Jahren in Hoyerswerda. In ihrem schriftstellerischen Werk setzte sie sich nicht nur mit den Utopien des Sozialismus auseinander, sondern auch mit städtebaulichen Fragen. (Quelle: Festival-Katalog 30.
