After death of cheetahs, SC asks Centre to consider shifting them to Raj
First India Bureau
New Delhi: Expressing grave concern over the recent death of 3 cheetahs in Kuno National Park in MP, the Supreme Court have now asked the Center to rise above politics and consider relocating the cheetahs to Rajasthan.
A bench of Justices BR Gavai and Sanjay Karol noted that these deaths had occurred within two months of their relocation from South Africa and Namibia to Kuno National Park.
The apex court told Center that it appears from the reports and articles of experts that
the KNP is not adequate for such a large number of cheetahs and the Central govt may con-
sider shifting them to other sanctuaries.
“Three deaths (of cheetahs) in less than two months is a matter of grave concern. There are expert opinions and articles in the media. It appears that kuno is not enough for so many cheetahs. The concentration of cheetahs at one place is very high. Why don’t you look for a suitable location in Rajasthan? Just because Rajasthan is ruled by an opposition party, doesn’t mean you won’t consider it.” —with PTI inputs

stay as one of the top highlights of IPL 2023. He picked up Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and Shardul Thakur to grab the first hattrick of this season to show the world that he is currently the best leggie in the business. But this was the same match that Rinku Singh’s
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 has been an incredible spectacle so far for cricket lovers across the globe. The playoffs race has been so exciting that after 66 of the total 70 matches in the league stage, it’s still unclear which four teams will qualify for the knock-out stage. Except Gujarat Titans who have already clinched their spot in the playoffs, which other teams will grab the remaining three spots will be known only after the clashes over this weekend.
Beyond the hot competition and high voltage action, IPL 2023 has provided some unforgettable moments that will linger in fans’ memories for years.
The top moments so far of the tournament have showcased not only the talent and skill of players but also the emotional drama and sporting unpredictability that have become synonymous with the IPL.
Then, M.S.Dhoni signing an autograph on ex-Indian Captain Sunil Gavaskar’s shirt after Chennai’s last league game at the home stadium, left many wondering whether this will be ‘Thala’ Dhoni’s last season as a player. nevertheless, Gavaskar made sure he grabbed the opportunity as a fitting tribute from one legend to another.
Apart from the memories on field, there have been several beautiful moments off the field as well. Rishabh Pant’s arrival at the Delhi stadium for the team’s first home game of the season, brought smiles on many fans’ faces. This was the first public appearance by him after he survived a car crash late last year
The top moment belongs to 21-year-old Yashasvi Jaiswal from Rajasthan Royals and his century knock against Mumbai Indians. His dream story from selling ‘pani-puri’ on Mumbai streets to living in tents and now setting his foot firmly in the door for Team India selection, is one for the legends. His special innings was lauded by many experts and ex-cricketers. But most importantly it was noticed by Indian Captain, Rohit Sharma. He said that Jaiswal’s form was “good for Indian cricket.” He smashed 124 off just 62 balls which unfortunately ended in a losing cause on the night but brought him firmly into limelight!
This IPL has not been short of batting brilliances and another fine example of it was displayed by Rinku Singh from Kolkata Knight Riders as he hit 5 sixes of the final over to win against Gujarat Titans. His stupendous hitting was cheered by everyone around the ground and even those who were supporting Gu-
jarat couldn’t hold themselves from marvelling at the new cricketing star being born. His team needed 28 off the final 5 balls when Rinku opened his arms to hit the next 5 balls out of the park. It’s a remarkable feat that may never be paralleled in terms of skill and drama - and will remain etched in people’s minds forever. There have been plenty of exceptional bowling spells on display this season as well. Mohammed Shami’s 4 wicket for 7 runs for Gujarat Titans against Delhi Capitals is one of the best bowling returns during powerplay in IPL history. Mark Wood’s spell of 5 wickets for just 14 runs which helped Lucknow Super Giants defeat Delhi Capitals by 50 runs, was also one of the fiercest bowling spells this season.

But over and above these performances, Rashid Khan’s hattrick against Kolkata will
Kohli’s name away from the list. His brilliant century against Sunrisers Hyderabad fetched Royal Challengers another win and a strong chance of sealing a top 4 berth for the playoffs. But interestingly his 63-ball hundred wasn’t the first in the match and in fact, Heinrich Klassen had hit a 51-ball century in the first innings for Hyderabad as well. This became the first ever instance in the history of the IPL when there were centuries in each innings. Most gracious moment came after Kohli got out and Klassen walked towards him. Both hugged as an acknowledgement of each other’s scintillating efforts in a moment that will be cherished by all sports lovers! Apart from the memories on field, there have been several beautiful moments off the field as well. All of these put together have made the current season a sublime mix of sporting excellence and humane aspects that touch an emotional chord among true sports fans. —Dr Jagdeesh Chandra, CEO & Editor-in-Chief, First India
PM tried to take Yeddiyurappa along, gave him due honour and credit too, but it did not click, resulting in BJP’s loss: Dr Chandra
What is the future of those BJP leaders that left the party and joined other political parties like Congress and JDS?
Dr Jagdeesh Chandra: Their move has been alright. Although former CM Jagadish Shettar has lost, but a few of them have won too and may get a place in the Cabinet. However the main leader - Shettarlost the election.
Why couldn’t the BJP High Command pacify former CM Jagadish Shettar, even though it could pacify Ishwaran?
See both these cases are different. Ishwaran is a smart and logical man. He is mature and wanted to contest the election, but he could not be adjusted according to the party’s arithmetic, so, JP Nadda and BL Santosh spoke with him and requested him not to contest the polls since he is a much senior leader. So, he agreed & announced the same. His son wanted to contest the election, but the father did not press the party too hard for it. So PM Narendra Modi then phoned him to appreciate that he has thought of the party as a disciplined worker. Ishwaran then issued a statement saying that he was surprised that PM called him. He did not have too many dreams of power. On the other hand, Jagadish Shettar was running for power and he did not agree to the high command’s terms. Also, what happens sometimes is that a person thinks that people are opposed to him and thus gets embroiled in his thought too much and goes beyond the measure of understanding. He was disgruntled that BL Santosh and Pralhad Joshi did not support him and Shettar believed that these men did not want him to have control in this region. So he was firm on
the idea that these people stopped him from getting a ticket. He even went to the level to say that there was a time, when people were loyal to the party, but now they are loyal to individuals. So in a way, he laid allegation on the state leadership like Pralhad Joshi that instead of being loyal to the party, these people are being loyal to the individual and getting ticket for their own people. He was disgruntled and thus joined Congress and the party gave him a ticket as well. Interestingly, BJP fielded Shettar’s own disciple against him and Shettar lost by about 30,000 votes. There is another aspect to it. On the day he left the party, Amit Shah said that very day that he is losing the election. Amit Shah’s analysis was right and Shettar lost the election. In a way, he had gone beyond the line of decency which happened because of his own ego and thus, he did not return to the party.
Narendra Modi is considered a ‘Guru’ when it comes to making a mass movement. Now that he will be completing nine years on May 30th, a major rally is being organised. Do you think this move will bring the momentum back to the BJP and the defeat of Karnataka polls will be a thing of the past?
To a great extent, yes. They say time is a great healer. Narendra Modi is not one of those, who accepts defeat. He gets up the very next moment after the defeat and gets engrossed in work. That is exactly what happened. The very next day the election result was announced wherein, BJP lost, it was announced that 71,000 people were being given jobs and that new Parliament will be inaugurated on May 28 and now a one month long ‘Mahasampark Abhiyan’ has been started wherein, right from BJP leaders to workers, everyone will be in the field working on the campaign. I recently went to Dehradun and met a Secretary level worker. He said that they keep extremely busy. I asked him why is that to which he said that PM Modi gives so much party related works that campaigns are run for 300 days in a
Dr Jagdeesh Chandra — CEO and Editor-in-Chief, Bharat24-Vision of New India and First India; CMD, First India News, highlights why BJP leaders left the party at last moment and joined rivals, how the issue of corruption coupled with non-delivery of good governance, struck the government. Dr Chandra also lays bare how Jagadish Shettar’s want for power, even under opposite circumstances, led to his lost even as his own disciple won against him and Ishwaran, paying heed to the High Command’s advice, joined the party’s main stream even though being disgruntled, a decision which even PM Modi appreciated and conveyed to him. Excerpts... (Part-II)
year. So, in this way, Narendra Modi strengthens the party & I would say that in the next few days, this sadness over the loss will get diluted to a large extent. As such, like I have said in the past, victory in only one state is not enough for Congress, but at times small losses hurt a lot and similarly, the loss in Karnataka has hurt BJP, but in about a month’s time, this will vanish from the memory.
It is being said in Karnataka that Yediyurappa did not support the party with all his might. If that is so, what are the reasons behind Yediyurappa’s stand?
See, Yediyurappa was like a bone for BJP and Prime Minister was aware of this factor and thus, he carried Yediyurappa along, whenever he went to Karnataka. An airport was inaugurated by PM in Sivamoga, which is Yediyurappa’s constituency and PM took him along. I saw a picture wherein, PM Modi was holding Yediyurappa’s hand and walking with him. So, Modi tried everything by showing his gesture too in this regard. Later, even Amit Shah was sent to Bengaluru by PM and Shah met Yediyurappa’s son and spent time with the family and even had a meal there. So, the BJP
leadership did try to handle Yediyurappa, but at times, luck doesn’t work in one’s favour and destiny has other things to offer. He always had in his mind that he was not declared the party’s face, but then again he is 80 years old & thus he cant be named CM, it is only logical, but sometimes, people do not understand these things. So, he had this in his heart that he should have been the CM, then another issue with him was that tickets were not distributed according to his wishes. He wanted Jagadish Shettar to be given ticket, but it was not so. Then the delay caused in handing the ticket to his son also did not go down well with Yediyurappa. Then I have heard that during the release of party’s manifesto in a hotel, Yediyurappa also reached with a handful of workers but there was no one to receive him, so he felt let down and outcast. Even the lo-
cal media did not take his byte or spoke to him rather concentrated on party leaders. So, he must have felt uneasy and these could well be major reasons for him not supporting the party with all his might. There is a perception that Yediyurappa’s support hasn’t been to the level that it could have been.
It is said that ten leaders close to Yediyurappa have played a role in BJP’s loss in the Karnataka polls?
It may be so. Generally also, it happens that when a leader gets hurt and he finds that he or she is not getting support of the higher ups, so the second rank workers move on their own desire. I see this in Rajasthan too, when leaders and workers around Vasundhara Raje feel that she has not been getting enough honour and respect, they try to create some minor issues, but then fall back in line, This is
there in every state and it is a common phenomenon in politics. So, it could be that there are ten or a dozen individuals, who did not support the party wholeheartedly and hence, the perception has been created. But this is a normal feature, there is nothing new in it.
Towards the end of campaigning, Yediyurappa even issued a statement saying that he does not believe in ‘hijab issue’ and the Hindu-Muslim tussle. Do you think this statement also made an effect?
One can say so. As a mature and senior leader, he should not have given such a statement. If you are not in agreement with the party’s ideology, then there is another platform to put your ideas and beliefs. And it is always said that you can represent when the decision is being taken, but when it has been taken, you have to comply with it. When the party’s policy is there on all these issues, one should follow it. He even said that it was the biggest mistake of his life to leave BJP and form a new political party. On one hand, you are saying this, and on the other hand, you are saying that you don’t agree with the party’s decision. This makes one feel that with age, such complications de-
velop and hence, he should not have said so. It was not an act of maturity.
When Yediyurappa is 80 years old, why then could the BJP not develop the next generation of leaders? See, this is a process. It takes a long time to develop the next generation and usually it takes 5-10 years. BJP tried and developed Bommai for the purpose and he stayed CM for a good amount of time. They did everything, but a viable alternate could not be developed till now. They must seriously undertake the exercise to develop a second generation of young leaders in Karnataka.
It is being said that CM Basavaraj Bommai has been punished for his poor and corrupt government. Do you also feel so?
Yes, the people have punished him. That is there. What happens is that when the party looses, people do take name of the top leadership, in this case Modi, Shah and Nadda, but in actuality, the reason of punishment is local leadership. If your governance is bad, then you can bring in the biggest leader of the land, even they can not make you win, at least not always.
I was in Bengaluru and came across a woman selling flowers and gar-
lands on the road side. Just out of curiosity I asked her whom she would vote. She said she would vote for Congress. When I asked why, she said that during Congress government under Siddaramaiah, she used to get cylinders for 250-300 rupees, whereas now it is for 1200 rupees. See, this was the sentiment of the common people. Then I came across a young boy and when I asked him, he said that he does not find the urban governance to be good. When I asked why, he said he had a fall recently due to a pit filled with water in the road and went on to say that in a city like Bangalore, such things should not happen. Although an ‘Iota’ doesn’t represent govt’s performance, but it is a symbolic issue and creates perception. So even after doing everything, the government could not ensure good governance. Bommai was low profile and I don’t accept it that he was corrupt. In fact, only an environment of corruption was created owing to alleged demand made by one minister, on which the opposition played a game. It is right to some extent that governance was weak & thus the people punished him.

PARENTING POWER of
How Authoritative Parenting Style Promotes Better Mental Health in Children
DR TRUPTI SHIROLE cityfirst@firstindia.co.in
How different parenting styles can affect children's mental health has been explained by a recent study published in the scientific journal Molecular Psychiatry. The study examined the relationship between parenting styles and the
ers from the University of Michigan, led by Dr. Nestor LopezDuran. The team recruited 106 adolescents aged between 11 and 17 years and asked them to complete questionnaires that assessed their parents' parenting styles. The study then used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to measure the adolescents' brain activity while they were exposed to a stressor.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF PARENTING STYLES
The study found that parenting styles can have a significant impact on children's mental health. The researchers identified four distinct parenting styles:
HIGHLIGHTS
■ Parenting styles significantly impact children's mental health, with an authoritative parenting style being linked to better stress regulation and a lower risk of developing anxiety and depression
■ The study found that an authoritarian parenting style can increase the risk of mental health problems by causing poor stress regulation
■ The findings of the study have important implications for parents and mental health professionals in promoting better mental health outcomes for children
AUTHORITARIAN PARENTING
Parents who are strict and enforce rules without being responsive to their children's needs.
PERMISSIVE PARENTING
Parents who are warm and re-
had lower levels of activity in the amygdala, a part of the brain that is involved in the stress response, compared to those who reported having authoritarian, permissive or neglectful parents. Lower amyg-
help their children develop better stress regulation, which can protect them from developing mental health problems such as anxiety and depression. On the other hand, parents who adopt an authoritarian parenting style may inadvertently increase their children's risk of developing mental health problems.
Mental health professionals can use this information to help parents develop more effective parenting strategies. For example, mental health professionals can encourage parents to be warm and responsive while set-
