Prime Minister’s closing statement at the FIPIC III Summit
Excellencies, Thank you very much for your views. We will definitely consider the ideas that have emerged from our discussions. We have some shared priorities and the needs of the Pacific Island countries. Our endeavour on this platform is to move forward while keeping both aspects in mind. To further enhance our cooperation within FIPIC, I would like to make some announcements:
To boost healthcare in the Pacific region, we have decided to establish a super-specialty cardiology hospital in Fiji. This hospital will be equipped with trained staff, modern facilities, and infrastructure, and it will serve as a lifeline for the entire region. The Indian government will bear the full cost of this mega greenfield project.
India will assist in setting up dialysis units in all the 14 Pacific island countries.
Sea ambulances will be provided to all the 14 Pacific island countries.
In the year 2022, we conducted a Jaipur Foot Camp in Fiji. In this camp, prosthetic limbs were provided free of cost to more than 600 people. Friends, the recipients of this gift feel as if they have received the gift of life. For the PIC region, we have decided to organize a Jaipur Foot camp in Papua New Guinea (PNG) this year. Starting from 2024, two such camps will be organized every year in the Pacific island countries.
Through the Jan Aushadhi Scheme in India, more than 1800 high-quality generic medicines are being provided to people at affordable prices. For example, the anti-diabetes medication is available at up to 90% lower cost at Jan Aushadhi Centers as compared to the market prices. Other medicines are also available at a discounted price, ranging from 60% to 90% of the market cost. I propose bringing similar Jan Aushadhi Centers to your countries.
Scientific studies have shown that yoga can be highly effective in preventing lifestyle diseases like diabetes. We propose establishing yoga centers in your countries to pro-
mote its benefits.
The Centre of Excellence for IT in PNG will be upgraded and transformed into a “Regional Information Technology and Cybersecurity Hub.”
A 24x7 emergency helpline will be established for the citizens of Fiji, and we would be delighted to help set up a similar facility in all the PIC countries.
I announce a project for the development of the SME sector in every Pacific Island country. Under this scheme, machinery and technology supplies will be provided, and capacitybuilding programs will be con-
ducted to enhance capabilities.
The project to convert the Pacific Island Heads of State Residences to solar powered ones, was well-received by you all. We will now be converting at least one government building into solar powered building, in all the FIPIC countries.
To address the water scarcity issue, I pledge to provide desalination units for the people of every Pacific Island country.
Continuing our long-term commitment to capacity building, I announce the “Sagar Amrut Scholarship”
scheme for the Pacific Island countries today. Under this program, 1000 ITEC training opportunities will be provided in the next five years.
Excellencies, Today, I conclude my remarks here. I have a special affinity for this Forum. It challenges boundaries and recognizes the limitless potential of human collaboration. Once again, I express my heartfelt gratitude for your presence here today.
I hope that next time we will have the opportunity to welcome you in India.
Thank you!

While runway fashion often dazzles with its avantgarde creations, incorporating elements of high fashion into our everyday lives can feel like a daunting task. However, with a touch of creativity and a keen eye for style, it’s entirely possible to infuse your wardrobe with runway-inspired looks that are both chic and practical. Runway fashion is renowned for its bold and statementmaking pieces, and incorporating them into your daily outfits can instantly elevate your look.
One of the keys to translating runway fashion to real life is to master the art of mixing high-end pieces with affordable, accessible fashion. Pairing a designer blouse with a pair of well-fitting jeans or teaming a trendy skirt with a basic t-shirt can create a fashionable juxtaposition that exudes effortless style. Runway fashion often showcases an array of vibrant colours and bold patterns and incorporating these elements into your everyday wardrobe can instantly make your outfits stand out. Experiment with mixing patterns and colours, but remember to balance them with neutrals or solid basics to maintain a cohesive look.
Don’t shy away from incorporating unexpected pops of colour through accessories like scarves, handbags, or shoes to infuse your outfits with a playful yet sophisticated touch. Runway fashion often celebrates unique silhouettes and unconventional proportions. While not all avant-garde designs are suitable for everyday wear, you can incorporate elements of these styles through tailored pieces. Invest in a wellfitted blazer, trousers, or a dress that flatters your body shape and enhances your confidence. Incorporating structured pieces with clean lines will add a touch of sophistication to your outfits while maintaining a practical approach. Runway fashion can be an incredible source of inspiration for your everyday wardrobe.
By incorporating statement pieces, mixing high and low fashion, embracing colour and patterns, focusing on tailoring and proportions, and infusing your style with personal touches, you can effortlessly bring the glamour of the runway into your daily life. Remember, fashion is about having fun, expressing yourself, and feeling confident, so don’t be afraid create your own unique fashion story.

For thousands of years, people in the British Isles lived with and depended on wild animals for food and clothes. The land teemed with species such as deer, boar, wolves, lynx and beavers. Then came farming, population growth and industrialisation. Many species were hunted to extinction and their habitats were lost.
Archaeological research reaches back in time to understand how humans and wild animals interacted.
Ancient bones and teeth reveal these complex relationships.
Today, interactions between wild animals and people are often in the news, from urban foxes to tree-felling beavers and wild boars. Even the red deer – the monarch of the glen, celebrated as a symbol of wild Scotland – is facing widespread calls for population control and, on the Hebridean island of South Uist, total eradication.
Deer were a mainstay of British diets before farming and, out on the islands, my research demonstrates they remained an important food source beyond the 15th century. It was only in the middle ages that deer became the preserve of royal hunts and later the favoured prey of fee-paying hunters.
Today they are often viewed as pests by the communities they impact. A combination of factors, including COVID-19 and climate change, has seen deer numbers increase and affect both landscapes and gardens. They also cause accidents on roads and carry the ticks that pass on Lyme disease.
As wild animals, they are not
HOW ARCHAEOLOGISTS CAN HELP US LIVE WITH WILD ANIMALS
In March 2023, the tensions between red deer and locals reached a crisis point on the Scottish island of South Uist. There was a call to eradicate an entire herd of 1,198 animals, as their behaviour was negatively affecting locals. Arguments on either side focused on their history, use and value. As an animal archaeologist, my research has shown that red deer were taken to Scottish islands for food more than 5,000 years ago.
In the absence of any predators, their numbers were controlled through the
killing (and eating) of both
red deer calves and adults. Hides were worked and the valuable antlers, shed annually from stags, were used to create beautifully crafted tools and adornments. Red deer are represented in early art, both on and off the islands. A recent find of spectacular rock art on mainland Scotland has highlighted their cultural importance during this period.
Unlike on most of mainland Britain, deer remained an important island food and thrived up until recently. In the 20th century, new animals were introduced from the mainland.
sis suggests these deer supplemented existing populations and the herds became reestablished.
Over the past decades deer numbers across the UK have exploded from 450,000 in the 1970s to 2 million today – the highest level for 1,000 years. A recent count found that South Uist deer numbers have increased by a third, from around 800 in 2015 to 1,200 today. This pattern is repeated elsewhere, such as in the Isles of Lewis and Harris. At the same time, the prevalence of ticks and the disease they carry has in-
MANAGEMENT
Deer herds clearly need to be managed, but there is a cost.
Culling them requires trained individuals, as well as care to ensure animals do not suffer.
Paying hunters provides some income,
easy it is to work with this material. With only simple tools, saleable items inspired by island heritage and culture can be produced. On South Uist, the estate is looking to process and sell hides, while wildlifefocused deer stalking with cameras can provide new tourist activities.
The deer of South Uist have gained a reprieve. The community voted to keep the herd but in smaller numbers. In the absence of predators, humans need to actively manage such wildlife to maintain a balance. The value of red deer, both alive and dead, must be realised to create a sustainable wild landscape for the future.
The deep history of human interactions with these animals can provide inspiration for their future management. Archaeologists like myself hold this knowledge and by sharing the stories and skills of the past, we can reconnect today’s people with previous generations.

One of the key features of Lazaro is its direct payment system, which ensures that restaurants receive their dues instantly and directly into their own bank accounts. It also offers a Softwareas-a-Service (SaaS) platform that automates the order workflow, enabling restaurants to efficiently manage their orders. Dinesh Kumar, the founder of Lazaro, expressed his ambitious plans for the app, stating, “We are working with a plan of onboarding over 20,000 restaurants by the end of 2023. Our next step is to take Lazaro to both metro and non-metro cities across India.”
