Pune: Having announced his coalition with Shiv Sena, Prakash Ambedkar of Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi claimed on Tuesday that the ‘master of this country has become a servant out of fear and the servant has become

the master’.

“The voter is owner of the country. Can anyone say that if in 2024 there is non-BJP-RSS government, Narendra Modi and Amit Shah will not be jailed. Unfortunately, voter who is master of this country has become a servant out of fear and the servant has become the master. We have to remove this fear in the coming times. From this it can be concluded that your household is financially weak. Tell me, isnt Nar-

Ambedkar questioned.

Meanwhile, Ambedkar admired Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and

Sule demands Home minister’s resignation over ‘bad’ law & order

First India Bureau

Pune: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Supriya Sule has demanded the resignation of Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis over the “bad” law and order situation in Maharashtra.

“The law and order situation in Maharashtra is bad and the government is busy in the politics of revenge.

If you cannot handle law and order, Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis should resign,” she said.

Talking about the Koyta gang of Pune, Sule said, “The members of this gang are threatening women.

The way cases are be-

ing reported, it looks like a complete failure of the state Home department. The ED (Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis) government is busy with vendetta politics and has no time to run the administration.”

Condemning the

government for its failure, she said, “I condemn this government and the Home minister and want to ask him as to what is going on in the state.”

“The Home minister should answer. If he cannot handle the situation then he should resign,” asserted the NCP MP.

Konkan divisions recorded 86%, 86.23% and 91.02% voting, respectively, added Deshpande.

All eyes were on the Nashik division graduates seat, where the Congress saw a rebellion in its ranks in run-up to the polls. Three-time MLC Sudhir Tambe was the official Congress

candidate from the seat, but he did not file his nomination papers.

As he opted out of the race, his son Satyajeet Tambe entered the fray as an independent. The Congress later suspended both of them. After casting his vote, Satyajeet Tambe claimed his victory was a forgone conclusion and what remains to be seen is the margin of win.

Differences had cropped up in the MVA over the polls. Earlier this month, Shiv Sena -UBT leader Sanjay Raut said the MLC polls have clearly shown confusion in the Opposition bloc. Later, MVA leaders sat together and ironed out differences.

In a viral video, Shastri is heard saying that Sant Tukaram’s wife used to beat him with a stick every day. Mitkari on Monday said, “If this fool does not know about the warkari sect, he should not speak or else the warkaris in Maharashtra will not think twice before giving him a befitting reply.” Mitkari sought an apology from Shastri over his remarks. “He should apologise or be ready to face the consequences,” the NCP leader said.

Lord Vitthal’s devotees, called the warkaris, undertake a pilgrimage every year to Pandharpur in Solapur district carrying the

holy footprints of Sant Tukaram from Dehu in Pune.

Shastri is the head priest of Bageshwar Dham in Madhya Pradesh’s Gada village which attracts a large number of people. He claims to predict the future of people through chits. He is popularly called Bageshwar Dham Sarkar and has considerable followers in Madhya Pradesh as well as other parts of the country. Recently, rationalist Shyam Manav from Maharashtra challenged him to prove miracles.

Reply to Thane MP’s plea to restore his security: HC to govt

Balasaheb Thackeray leader Rajan Vichare seeking restoration of his security cover.

Vichare has claimed that his life has been “endangered to extract political upmanship by the state government”.

First India Bureau Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Tuesday directed the state government to file response to a plea by Thane MP and Shiv Sena - Uddhav

The court asked the government to produce a report of threat perceptions on which the decision to reduce Vichare’s security was taken.

However, the bench directed Vichare’s lawyer to delete the names of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis who were named as par-

ties to the case in their personal capacity. It also questioned how the writ plea was maintainable if the ministers were named in their personal capacity instead of referring to the department concerned

with the grievance. The plea has also made Thane police party to the case. In his plea, Vichare had claimed that one of the two constables deployed to provide him security was removed in

October last year. Alleging danger to the lives of his family members, Vichare said that his security cover ought to be reinstated.

Vichare alleged that the Shinde government had “wrongfully” reduced his security with “ill motive”.

“The Shinde-led government is trying to create problems for MPs and MLAs who have not joined hands with either Eknath Shinde or the BJP,” the plea said.

After arguments, the bench posted further hearing after two weeks.

NO COUNSEL BEFORE OSMANABAD, AURANGABAD RENAMING?, ASKS HC

Mumbai (PTI): The Bombay High Court on Tuesday sought to know from the state government if it had called for objections and suggestions before deciding to rename Aurangabad and Osmanabad cities in the state. A division bench of Acting Chief Justice SV Gangapurwala and Justice Sandeep Marne also directed the Union government to show if any proposal was submitted by the state government to it over the change of names. The court asked the state government if authorities could use the new names in official communication without the completion of the final process.

After state cabinet of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde approved the renaming of Aurangabad as Sambhaji Nagar and Osmanabad as Dharashiv last year, two public interest litigations were filed in HC challenging this decision. The bench has posted the petitions for hearing on February 15.

tax regime was brought into practice in 2020-21, as per reports, only 18.75% Indians had opted for this regime while around 60% of the taxpayers chose to opt for the regular tax structure. In order to make the new I-T regime popular, Sitharaman should be concentrating in this sector and include some changes and give more sops to the working class in this regard.

WIDER SCOPE FOR 80C

It is now time to widen the scope of the popular weapon for the working class to “earn” some money. Section 80 C offers people deductions on several fiscal instruments like the LIC, ELSS, PPF etc and thus the number of people availing this facility is growing by the minute. However, the limit of `1.5 lakh in 80C has not changed for years. This is one sphere where the working class would expect Sitharaman to consider. Talking of standard deduction, the working class is also expecting a hike in this sector which is currently pegged at `50,000.

IN-DEPTH NEMESIS CATCHES UP WITH DUBIOUS SPIRITUALIST ASARAM BAPU

Nemesis finally caught up with the self-spiritual guru Asaram Bapu who, at one time, had bigwigs dancing to his tune. He was sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a Surat-based woman at his ashram in Gujarat. He was earlier sentenced to life imprisonment in 2018 for raping a teenaged girl from UP’s Shahjehanpur in 2013.

That Asaram was more of a criminal than a holy man was apparent from the way his goons attacked key witnesses, some of whom, including his doctor and cook, were shot dead. Asaram’s men had even tried to track down the 16-year-old victim from her hometown.

With around 400 days to go for the Lok Sabha, this is, in all probability, the last full fledged budget by Nirmala Sitharaman before the General elections and as usual the common man who loves to hope against hope is again hoping to get a slice of the moon in their own terms!

The common man who is always on the receiving end as far major expenditure is concerned, hopes that the government will spell something for the working class on the last budget before the big polls

It may be noted that there have been no changes in the Income-Tax rates since 2017-2018 and despite the introduction of the new tax regime in 2020-21, most people still go in for the old tax regime. This is one sector, where the working class will expect some relief and a big announcement

l Those who possess health insurance can currently claim tax deductions up to `50,000 on the premium they pay under Section 80D. However, senior citizens are now eyeing the limit to be pegged at `1 lakh.

RATIONALISE TDS AND PRODUCE MORE BUYERS

It may be noted that there have been no changes in the Income-Tax rates since 20172018 and despite the introduction of the new tax regime in 2020-21, most people still go in for the old tax regime. This is one sector, where the working class will expect some relief and a big announcement… In this article, we shall discuss the existing scenario and the expectations vis-à-vis.

ECONOMIC SURVEY’S CHEERY OUTLOOK

By increasing the I-T slab, the working class must be allowed to save money and thus the budget must ensure that people have the capacity to buy in order to contribute to the economy of the nation and keep it moving. GST is a subject that affects one and all indirectly. Thus, the rates of commodities commonly used by the common man should be reduced. The provisions of the Capital Gains and Tax Deduction at Source (TDS) should be rationalised.

The economy is predicted to perform better once the Russia-Ukraine war is over. The war, along with the pandemic, has been the biggest disrupter of the global economy and crippler of supply chains. In its latest report on World Economic Outlook the International Monetary Fund predicted a 6.1 growth in Indian economy in 2023 but said that India will grow at 6.8 percent in 2024. The IMF called India a bright spot and will grow fastest. The worst, Chief Econom-

or she doesn’t come under the tax purview. And in the scenario, where the taxable income goes above ` 5 lakh, 20% rate is applicable. This is a huge matter of concern for those who fall under the tax bracket of ` 10 lakh per annum. Consider this, if the working class intends to go for the new tax regime, it would mean that they give up the deductions available under Section 80 C, exemptions like HRA and others. This will not only increase the taxable income and thus the amount of tax payable too. So, people are expecting a decrease in these tax rates.

In 2022, it took almost two to three months for the tax refunds to actually happen, which had sent taxpayers into a tizzy. The CBDT, however, has been considering and has already proposed a single ITR form for all while ITR-1 and ITR- 4 will remain. This may reduce the processing time of the tax return filings and also assist taxpayers to receive refunds faster.

SOPS FOR THOSE IN WFH SECTOR

Since the pandemic and widely after that, working from home has become a norm in today’s parlance and it is now the new normal. While if someone is on WFH he/she doesn’t need to travel to the workplace it saves a great deal on the travelling for the working class, but when it comes to other expenses like setting up a working station, dedicated wi-fi zone and proper machines to keep people linked with their offices. To maintain this, part of which is monthly expenses like the electricity and the internet cost, for those involved in WFH, they hope to hear about some goodies from the finance minister of the D-day.

contribute to unfavourable developments in the current account balance,” the CEA said. At present the current account deficit (CAD) stands at 4.4 percent. If the CAD widens, the rupee will come under further pressure.

On a brighter side the Economic Survey numbers, about which “the government has become more transparent”, instill hope about the country’s bright future.

Two of the several standout points of the Survey are about increased expenditure on health which was about 2.1 percent of the GDP from 1.6 percent in 2021. Thrust on rural development is the other high point. Together with performance of other sectors they strengthen the hope for a bright future.

It is shocking that despite his conviction thousands still believe that Asaram is a pious man. It is some of these devotees who were involved in the killings of key witnesses. The unscrupulous guru, like many other spiritualists, exploited the gullible seekers of knowledge and put Hindu religion to shame. Sadly, such dubious gurus will keep popping up.

“Indira allowed Bhindranwale to become monster”

New Delhi (ANI): Late PM Indira Gandhi had “allowed” militant leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale to grow into a sort of Frankenstein monster and decided to “finish him off” when he reached the pinnacle, claims Lt Gen (retd) Kuldeep Singh Brar who led the 1984 Operation Bluestar to flush out extremists from the Golden Temple.

In the recent episode of ANI Podcast, the retired 1971 war veteran, Lt Gen (retd) Brar said, “No one wants an operation, but what do you

do? Indira Gandhi allowed him to become Frankenstein. You could see every year what was happening. But when he reached the pinnacle, now finish him off, now destroy him. It’s too late.” He claimed that the thenpolitical leadership had allowed the Bhindranwale cult to flourish.

“They had their own little problem support between Akali and Congress. They allowed this cult of Bhindranwale to continue,” Brar said.

In the episode titled “Never before heard

stories from the man who led Operation Blue Star” Lt Gen Brar recalled the situation of Punjab in the 1980s at a time when he said Bhindranwale was in full

control of the state.

“In the 1980s, let’s say 1982, 83, 84, things were very bad over there.

There was no law and order at all. Lot of police were afraid of tak-

ing action against anyone because Bhindranwale had become so powerful. He had become like a Frankenstein. His orders were the last orders,” he said.

Lt Gen Brar said that law and order had completely collapsed in Punjab and the “feeling of Khalistan” was building up.

“In the beginning of 1984, the feeling was very strong that they are going to declare Khalistan. The youth were without jobs. They had motorcycles and scooters and they

roamed around with little pistols and revolvers. There were many gangsters. Law and order had totally broken down. The feeling of Khalistan was slowly building up. Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale was in full control of the state,” he said. Bhindranwale was the head of the Sikh religious sect Damdami Taksal. He was killed along with his armed followers during Operation Blue Star launched by the Indian Army at the Golden Temple complex.

Political instability in state, expansion only after EC hearing: Kadu

First India Bureau

The Shinde group and the BJP established power in the state after ousting the Mahavikas Aghadi government. But due to non-expansion of the cabinet, it has been seen that there is uneasiness among the Shinde faction and independent MLAs. In such

a situation, a statement given by MLA Bachchu Kadu on TUesday, has intensified the political discussions. Bachchu Kadu has said that there is political instability between the ruling party and the opposition.

“At present there is political instability in the state. I belong to both Mahavikas Aghadi

and Shinde Group. The court case has created trouble for the rulers.

Due to non-expansion of the cabinet, there is uneasiness among Shinde faction and independent MLAs

Recently there was a major rebellion and the Shinde group was

formed. That’s why this situation has arisen. But, it is affecting the common people and people are facing problems. We want political stability in the state soon,” said Bachu Kadu. Speaking about the cabinet expansion, Bachchu Kadu said, “The hearing is going on in the bow and arrow

case (Shiv Sena symbol case) before the Election Commission. So there is a possibility that the cabinet expansion will be done at a later date and thus the cabinet expansion is stalled,” claimed Bachchu Kadu.

Interestingly, on Kadu’s statement, NCP state president Jayant Patil has claimed that

all is well in the opposition coalition. “There is no instability in the opposition. Instability is being seen in the ruling party in Maharashtra. Along with this, Mahavikas Aghadi will discuss about PimpriChinchwad by-election. We will take a decision on it in two-three days,” said Jayant Patil.
