For the English Wine

Summer is the perfect time to sit in the garden with a glass of your favourite wine from one of these local Surrey Vineyards.

ALBURY ORGANIC VINEYARD

Albury Vineyard is the result of Nick Wenman’s passion for quality wine. Nick planted the vineyard in 2009 having retired from the IT industry to fulfil his dream of owning a vineyard.

Nick believes that key to the success of the wines is the vineyard’s commitment to organic and biodynamic principles, together with excellent winemakers and his talented Estate Manager Alex, one of the few female vineyard managers in England.

Albury Vineyard is situated on the southern slopes of the North Downs in the beautiful Surrey Hills, just outside Guildford on the A25 towards Dorking. The vines are the traditional Champagne varietals of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, as well as some Seyval and Pinot Gris. They are committed to producing organic fruit without the use of chemicals such as herbicides and fungicides, and produce English wine of the highest quality; a still rosé and quality sparkling wines.

PAINSHILL

Painshill boasts a south-facing sloping vineyard from the top of which you can enjoy beautiful views across the North Downs. The grape varieties include Pinot Noir, one of the varieties grown by Hamilton in the 18th century, as well as the modern varieties Chardonnay, Seyval Blanc and Pinot Grigio.

The vineyard was turned into a rockery by the

Victorian owners and, when the Painshill Park Trust was formed, it was a series of large rock steps. The area was replanted by the Trust in the 1990s. Modern trellising is used everywhere apart form the last three vines, where the 18th century method of growing is demonstrated. It now produces a yearly harvest. Painshill wine, an award winning sparkling white or rose is produced and sold in their shop.

HIGH CLANDON ESTATE VINEYARD

High Clandon Estate Vineyard was founded in 2004 by Sibylla and Bruce Tindale. The Vineyard lies high on the Surrey Hills, on the chalky limestone in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The chalky lime-stone is the same geological stratum as that of the Champagne

region and the ideal geology for their English sparkling wine made in the champagne-style. Being chalky, forces the vines to struggle and yet counter-intuitively, magnificently enhances grape flavours.

The hills face South East which helps to capture and concentrate sunlight and ripen the grapes optimally, and also protects them from debilitating spring frosts. Their viticulture interventions with much hand-manicuring of the vines and grapes

result in full –flavoured, ripe grapes. They are not interested in volume and focus solely on quality berries to produce their long-aged elegant vintage sparkling wines.

DENBIES WINE ESTATE

The Denbies Estate, based in Dorking, Surrey, has been family owned and run since 1984. Denbies vineyard was planted in 1986, and since then has become one of the largest wine producers in the UK. Denbies core business is agriculture and they are pleased to be able to offer visitors an insight into wine production in the UK. Denbies wine now competes on an international level, including multiple gold awards for sparkling wine production, the first ever gold for an English rose wine and most recently an international gold for Denbies Noble Harvest Dessert wine. Surrey Hills is a beautiful and while you are visiting do take advantage of the surrounding areas, including 7 miles of public footpath which trail throughout the vineyard.

Located on the sunny south facing chalk slopes of the Hog’s Back at Puttenham, just outside Guildford in Surrey, they are producing a range of spectacular English Sparkling and Still Wines reflecting the unique local soil conditions, climate, and heritage of the Surrey North Downs. The current Greyfriars Vineyard was originally set up in 1989 and was one of the first in England to plant the traditional Champagne grape varieties (Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier). 30 years later, in 2011, Mike and Hilary Wagstaff took over with the aim of expanding the vineyard to its current size of 40 acres and to produce stunning English Sparkling Wine, building a stateof-the-art winery complete with an underground chalk cave cellar to accommodate this growth. The vineyards are predominantly planted with the three classic Champagne varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. However, they also have small plots of Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Blanc. The state-of-the-art tasting room was built over lockdown and opened in 2021. Passion throughout the winemaking and vineyard teams has led to a number of their wines gaining critical acclaim, winning a number of prizes in international competitions including the Decanter World Wine Awards.

Could this be London’s greatest ever building?

Shops, restaurants and attractions have breathed new life into Battersea Power Station without sucking away its soul, says Sarah Marshall.

Ten years ago, standing in this very spot, bricks crumbled from walls, window frames gaped open, and dusty cables dangled like vines in a concrete jungle. Above me, where a roof had once been, was a ceiling of fluffy clouds, pierced by four soaring white chimneys which have defined south London’s skyline for more than 90 years.

For millions of Londoners – including myself –Battersea Power Station has always been a familiar and comforting backdrop to daily life. Standing on the banks of the River Thames, its distinctive silhouette has greeted me from train tracks, signposted late night taxi rides and – on clear days – signalled a homecoming on plane journeys arriving into Heathrow.

As cherished an icon as Big Ben or Buckingham Palace, for decades, fond memories filled its empty shell.

The structure today retains its trademark Art Deco edifice, but inside it’s almost unrecognisable from the building I visited as part of a one-off Open House hard hat tour in 2013. Shops such as Space NK and Lululemon fill spaces where tonnes of coal were once shovelled into boilers, while beer taps sit alongside dusty decommissioned dials in fancy bars fashioned from former control rooms.

Following an ambitious eight-year restoration, the new look Battersea Power Station finally opened to the public at the end of last year, accessed by a new tube stop on the Northern Line extension. Developments in the £9bn masterplan are ongoing, with more shops and attractions set to fill the turbine halls between now and 2033.

When a private consortium of Malaysian investors initially purchased the Grade II listed building, there were mutterings of understandable concern. But even though a large chunk of the site

“As cherished an icon as Big Ben or Buckingham Palace, for decades, fond memories filled its empty shell”

has been set aside for yet more ‘luxury flats’, much of the original building – which once provided 20% of London with electricity, including The Houses of Parliament – is open to the public.

Despite the glitz and glam of designer stores, many of the building’s original details have been carefully restored: cogs and chains hang from rafters and plaques on the walls remain. The facade designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott has also been painstakingly restored, with 1.75 million new bricks made using traditional clay and hand throwing techniques by one of the family-owned companies involved in the original 1930s build.

One major change, however, has been inside the north west chimney, where a glass elevator now whisks guests 109-metres skyward as part of new attraction Lift 109.

While waiting to make my ascent, I spend some time learning about the history of the power station in a mini interactive museum.

Along with providing electricity to residents, the building has performed far greater cultural and

even political functions in its time.

In 1940, RAF fighter pilots used the chimney’s plumes of white vapour to guide them home in the mist. In the 70s and 80s, as its electricity output dwindled, the site became a popular photoshoot location for album covers such as The Who’s Quadrophenia and Pink Floyd’s Animals.

Knowing all of this makes my journey to the top of the chimney even more thrilling. Soaring upwards through a neon-lit spiral, we emerge above rooftops to avidly pinpoint popular London sights. The BT Tower and The Shard race to reach the highest clouds, while train tracks snake below. But it’s being at eyeline with Battersea’s mighty white pillars of power that’s truly special. From £15.90 for adults; £11.50 for children. Visit lift109.co.uk.

WHERE TO DRINK

In 1946, the late Queen Elizabeth was given a behind the scenes tour of the dials and switches used to control the power station. Several years after her visit, Control Room B was completed, which now operates as a smart cocktail bar. Tables are set against a wall of the original machinery, with 20-minute audio guide tours (£12) available on request. Drinks also follow an industrial

theme. I’d recommend The Smoke Stack, made with El Jimador Blanco tequila and agave syrup (£13.50), or The Synchroscope, made with Oxley gin and lemon verbena liqueur (£14). Visit controlroomb.com.

WHERE TO EAT

There are dozens of restaurants to choose from, but Bread Street Kitchen is a great all-day dining option straddling casual eating and finer cuisine. Plush turmeric leather banquettes sit below an exposed silver industrial ceiling in the Gordon Ramsay franchise, where steaks are a speciality

(from £40). Every weekend, a Bottomless Brunch features 90 minutes of free-flowing cocktails (£28 for two courses and £20 for drinks).

Visit gordonramsayrestaurants.com.

WHERE TO STAY

Turbine halls make great spaces for art installations, as demonstrated by the Tate Modern, but Battersea’s best creative displays can be found outside the power station. Head over the road to the art’otel Battersea, which only opened in February this year, for a collection of modern pieces displayed in a fun and vibrant setting designed by Spanish artist Jaime Hayon. Throughout, fun photographs and paintings playfully reference London: from an image of a white-gloved hand popping a tea bag into a pot below an umbrella, to a rose held above a bowler hat. On the rooftop, an infinity pool invites Instagram shots against the station’s white chimneys. Downstairs, the light-filled Tozi Grand Cafe is a delight at any time of day. From £300 per night with breakfast.

take to enhance their security. These include making sure you lock doors and gates, close windows when you go out, keep your car keys out of site, and don’t leave ladders or garden equipment out that could be used to gain entry to your home. It is also important to be aware of the latest trends in criminal activity, such as the use of social media to identify potential targets and take steps to protect against these threats.

Summer has arrived as has the surge in home burglaries. Statistically, you are more likely to become a victim of burglary in the summer. The importance of residential security in London and the home counties is more important now than ever, particularly for high-net-worth individuals who are concerned about protecting their families and assets. With the ever-increasing crime rates and a vast increase in targeted, often violent high-value burglaries and street robberies, it is crucial for homeowners to take proactive steps to enhance their personal and property security.

One of the most effective ways to improve home security is to make your property less appealing to criminals by investing in technical and physical security, such as CCTV, alarms, and lighting. Also, fences, gates, windows, and doors. A 24/7 security guard presence or residential security team is advised should your profile, status, threat, and risk require such measures. This is an essential requirement for high-profile business leaders, celebrities, political and royal stock. Should the threat and risk of burglary be enhanced due to your career or company, it’s reassuring to know that private security is a tax-deductible business expense.

In addition to these often-expensive solutions, there are several simple steps that everyone can

Claridge’s opens CLARIDGE’S RESTAURANT at the legendary Mayfair hotel

Claridge’s Restaurant has gently opened its art deco doors onto Davies Street, as it embarks on a new era in its long history. The classically inspired but contemporary British restaurant – which will fully open in September – is now operated in-house by the hotel, in true Claridge’s style, with chef Coalin Finn heading up the kitchen. It was previously known as Claridge’s Restaurant over 20 years ago. Much like Claridge’s itself, with its welcoming approach and all day à la carte, it is set to be at the beating heart of the Mayfair community, appealing to Londoners and visitors alike.

Claridge’s Restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner with the menu overseen by Irish born Finn who has previously worked at Inverlochy Castle, Davies and Brook and Sketch. Classically inspired dishes, enhanced with modern twists, showcase the finest locally sourced ingredients. Starters include Buckwheat Crumpets, laden with soubise cream, truffle puree and slices of truffle, and Dorset Snails with parsley and parmesan croute.

For mains, dishes span from whole wild Turbot grenobloise to share, Artichoke Agnolotti, to Grilled Native Lobster with crushed Jersey royals and sauce Américaine. Summer desserts include Raspberry Vacherin and a Chocolate Souffle Tart with cocoa nib ice cream. A collection of all-

British cheeses is accompanied by cherry chutney and plum crackers.

The restaurant has been designed by Bryan O’Sullivan Studio, with homage to the hotel’s art deco design heritage. ALISON G SAUNDERS

Surrey-based artist Alison G Saunders is best known for her large, colourful abstract paintings, most of which contain circles.

For Alison, circles represent hugs, something which she became keenly aware of during the Covid-19 pandemic, when giving physical hugs was all too often impossible.

Over the years she has produced commission works for charity fundraising events for the Surrey Cow Parade, St Catherine’s Hospice, Haslemere art trails, Reigate and Banstead bird box trails and private homes across the UK, Europe, Australia, Hong Kong and America as well as taking part in local art fairs. Earlier this year, she was approached by a glass manufacturer to have her work turned into splashbacks for kitchens and bathrooms.

Alison is also a printmaker producing work using lino, collagraph, screen and mono printing techniques, all of which she teaches, too. Alongside her printing classes, Alison also teaches journal-making, another discipline she enjoys. She makes leather journals using scraps bought direct from the tanners in an attempt to help reduce the amount of leather waste ending up in landfill. Classes are held mainly in her home studio but she also teaches at The Stockroom, a new gallery in Leatherhead.

From 1st July Alison will have work on the walls at The Stockroom and is currently due to be there until the end of the year.

For more information about viewing or commissioning her work, do take a look at her website www.alisongsaunders.co.uk or email her at alison@alisongsaunders.co.uk

ART BY GRAHAM CLARKE

Graham Clarke is known for his wonderfully detailed, often humorous arch-topped limited-edition etchings, produced entirely by hand from start to finish. They depict his love of the Kent countryside, boats and the sea, Cornwall, travel to Europe and beyond, comic misinterpretations of history, Shakespeare and much more besides.

He sold his first work to a neighbour at the age of eight and at this point his career as an artist began. He set about celebrating the beauty of rural life and went on to learn the process of copperplate etching. His work won him recognition from the foremost art patron of the day, Sir Kenneth Clark. In 1973 he came to public attention when ‘Dance by the Light of the Moon’ featured in the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition. His work is now held in many collections and museums but

what pleases him most is that it is enjoyed on the walls of homes all over the world. The most frequent comment being, ‘We’ve had this on our wall for years and we still keep finding something new to enjoy’.

There’s a vast collection to be found in his studio gallery in Boughton Monchelsea in Kent, alongside lots of the paraphernalia used to produce copperplate etchings. It’s an entertaining glimpse into the world of Graham and his work of several decades and has to be seen to be believed. The studio is open by appointment and frequent open days are also held. Graham is sometimes around to have a chat, though he’s slowed up a little these days. His family will welcome you and are happy to talk you through the intricate process of copperplate printing and the many entertaining tales behind the vast collection of etchings. You’ll also find watercolours, books, posters, greetings cards and plenty to make you smile.

Unveiling Monaco Yacht Show’s carbon neutrality plan

At the end of June, the Monaco Yacht Show hosted a webinar exclusively for exhibitors and show suppliers to discuss its Carbon Neutrality Transition Plan. The presentation emphasized the show’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and its ongoing efforts to minimize its environmental impact.

With the implementation of a comprehensive three-phase transition plan, the Monaco Yacht Show is dedicated to achieving carbon neutrality, actively involving all exhibitors and suppliers in the process.

The presentation was hosted by the Monaco Yacht Show and the auditing agency Nadeis which supports the show in its sustainability initiatives.

The Monaco Yacht Show aims to reduce

CO2 emissions by 60% by 2025 compared to 2022. It aligns with the Principality of Monaco’s low-carbon trajectory, aiming to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

The presentation discussed the approach and methodology used to calculate the carbon footprint of the show. Data collection at last year’s MYS was conducted from various stakeholders, including visitors, exhibitors, service providers, and yacht captains. Accurate data collection is crucial for improving carbon footprint estimation.

The Monaco Yacht Show unveiled its vision for the next stages of the transition plan. It focused on future measures and upcoming initiatives to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote sustainability.

The carbon footprint calculation for the Monaco Yacht Show reveals important data in each of the three scopes.

• Scope 1 represents direct emissions that MYS owns or controls, including air conditioning refrigerants. The largest emission in this scope came from the refrigerants used in air conditioning machines, amounting to 48.5 tons.

• Scope 2 includes indirect emissions from electricity and water consumption. The emissions

46 JULY 2023 FEATURE

in this scope were relatively low, with minimal impact from water (0.1 tons of emissions) and electricity (2.4 tons) usage.

• Scope 3 covers other indirect emissions from activities not owned or controlled by MYS, such as exhibitors, suppliers, waste, and transportation. The emissions in this scope were significant, with notable contributions from exhibitors, visitors, waste, and service providers.

Employees contribute 1 ton, which is equivalent to 190 round trips from Paris to Bordeaux by train. Visitors generate 6,608 tons, equivalent to 6,600 round trips from Paris to New York by

air (extrapolated data). Waste amounts to 5 tons, equivalent to 44,000 plastic cups. Service providers contribute 39 tons, equivalent to 741 years of power consumption of a TV (extrapolated data). Exhibitors generate 77 tons, equivalent to driving 620,000 kilometres in a diesel car (extrapolated data). These results underscore the need for comprehensive efforts to reduce emissions in all scopes, promoting sustainable practices and environmental responsibility throughout the Monaco Yacht Show.

GINGER CACTUS ART

Ginger Cactus Art (GCA) was founded in 2020 by Surrey artist Alison G Saunders, whose initial goal was to create a virtual exhibition space where she and fellow artists could continue showing their work during the chaos of the Covid-19 lockdowns. With amazing support from her son Edward, Alison created a website and social media accounts so that exhibiting online became a practical alternative.

Three years on, the group currently has 16 members based in England, Scotland and Hungary with one from California and another from Switzerland looking to join later this year.

GCA normally holds two shows a year at Denbies Wine Estate in Dorking and in June Alison hosts the group at her home as part of the annual Surrey Artists Open Studios (SAOS) event. Special online exhibitions are in the pipeline and whilst GCA comes together to exhibit as a group, members also take part in a number of shows as individual artists.

However, the group is always looking for new venues and different ways to get their work seen. If you would like to find out more about GCA, when and where their next exhibition will be or if you would like to be considered for membership of the group then please do get in touch via their website: www.gingercactusart.com

How to wear the red carpet shimmer beauty trend

Celebrities have been showing off dazzling make-up looks at high profile events.

The sparkly make-up trend that started on the spring/summer catwalks with diamante-lined lids and glitter eyeshadow has overflowed onto the red carpet, with celebrities choosing beautiful shimmery looks to complement their designer outfits.

It’s all about the eyes for A-listers like model Gigi Hadid, actor Michaela Coel and pop star Bebe Rexha, who have provided stunning inspiration for when you really want to get glam.

Here are three gorgeous ways to wear the metallic eye make-up trend this summer…

GIGI HADID’S SILVER SHIMMER

For this year’s Karl Lagerfeld-themed Met Gala, Gigi Hadid wore a sheer black Givenchy gown accessorised with pearl jewellery.

The model and Next In Fashion host’s eyes were adorned with a cool-toned pearlescent shimmer, with tiny pearls placed under her lower lash line.

“I always like to use crème textures over a powder, so to keep the look fresh and dewy a liquid eyeshadow is your go-to for a seamless wash of colour,” says Celia Burton, European make-up artist for Glossier.

“Glossier Lidstar is lovely for this as it adds a subtle dimension to the lid without it looking too solid. There are also so many different shades available so there are many options to complement your skin or eye colour.”

For a more intense shimmer, press a sparkly powder shimmer over the top with your fingertip.

“I sometimes like using a dewy-textured highlighter to do this,” Burton continues.

“For hazel and brown eyes, I also think a gold pencil liner in the waterline is a lovely touch to highlight and open up the eye.”

MICHAELA COEL’S COPPER CAT-EYE

Actor, writer and Met Gala co-host Michaela Coel went all-out for the event with her jewel-encrusted Schiaparelli dress.

Her ‘gleaming goddess’ beauty look was created by make-up artist Bernicia Boateng for Pat McGrath Labs.

To complement the golden gown, Boateng chose a rich, copper-toned liquid eyeshadow applied liberally over the lids.

To create definition and accentuate Coel’s eyes, she added a sharp feline flick using black liquid eyeliner.

BEBE REXHA’S CHAMPAGNE SPARKLE

Attending the annual Amfar gala in Cannes, pop singer Bebe Rexha went for a Noughties glam look with a choppy up-do and pale gold sparkly eyes.

“I love this look,” says make-up artist Aimee Connolly, founder of Sculpted By Aimee.

“It’s great for summer parties and festivals, and super easy to recreate as it’s so sheer and fluid.”

Start with a layer of matte concealer over the eyelids to act as a blank canvas, then apply a taupe eyeshadow or bronzer from the outer corner of the eye into the crease.

“Take a smaller brush and pat a slightly darker shadow into the crease at the outer edges,” says Connolly, blending the two shades together well.

“Next, take a sheer ballet slipper eyeshadow, or a shimmering champagne colour, and start patting it into the inner corner of the eyelid, and blend out

into the centre of the lid.”

Blend well again then apply lots of black mascara before completing the last step.

“Take your most shimmery eyeshadow, or even a highlighter, and gently dab onto your whole lids using a finger,” Connolly continues.

“Focus from the centre of the lid outwards and keep your touch super light. You want to give the effect [that] some fairy dust has been sprinkled over your lid.”

It is manufactured by IBSA, a long-established and highly reputable Swiss company and was first launched in Italy in 2015 and subsequently in the UK in January 2016. Since launch there have been an increasing number of positive reviews and opinions in the media.

A Profhilo treatment is quick and easy. Just 5 small injections of Profhilo are administered to each side of the face. Discomfort is minimal and other than the possibility for a small bruise there is no downtime. There will be an initial increase in hydration, but the main effects will build over the following weeks. A second treatment must be given 4 weeks later to maximise the beneficial effects.

Profhilo

Profhilo is an exciting and unique rejuvenation product for the face, neck and décolletage, being unlike any other skin treatment on the market.

Dr Forrester & Ms McEvoy have been using Profhilo since the summer of 2017 and continue to be very impressed with its results and moreover, are convinced Profhilo is a safe, effective and innovative product.

Profhilo is designed to improve skin laxity, texture and lines by stimulating collagen and elastin production. This effect combined with increased hydration will produce a subtle lifting and tightening effect.

Although Profhilo is composed of Hyaluronic Acid (HA) it is not a filler and is aimed at achieving a very different effect from all the currently available HA fillers such as Restylane, Juvederm or Belotero. It will not add excessive volume and hence there is no risk that a Profhilo treatment will

SUN DAMAGE: Over a million Brits using creams over a decade old

Just over one in 10 UK adults agree they are prepared to risk skin cancer in the quest for a suntan. From applying out of date sun cream to wearing no sun protection at all, a new study by charitable hospital King Edward VII’s, reveals the nation’s sun safety habits.

As temperatures begin to rise in the UK, a new study suggests millions of adults are taking unnecessary risks when it comes to protecting their skin against sun damage.

Despite the risks associated with sun damage, there is still a cavalier attitude amongst many individuals when it comes to wearing sun protection. Nearly one in 10 Brits (9%) admit to only wearing sun cream when on holiday abroad and around 4 million completely shun sun protection in the UK, even during hot weather. One in 20 (5%) adults also wrongly believe they don’t need to wear sun protection at all.

Also of concern, 1.4 million adults are still using sun cream they purchased over 10 years ago. This is far longer than recommended 6-24 months that a cream will keep and be effective for.

Dr Catherine Borysiewicz, Dermatology Consultant at King Edward VII’s Hospital said: “Sun protection is vital, whether you’re in the UK or abroad, and irrespective of your skin colour.

Sun creams and sprays provide the necessary protection from skin damage to potentially longterm or even fatal conditions. It is also important to purchase new sun protection each year, as creams do expire and will become less effective.”

Consultants in King Edward VII’s Hospital’s dermatology clinic treat a comprehensive range

of skin conditions affecting all areas of the body. Services include mole mapping, diagnosis and treatment for inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema and acne and treatment for skin cancers to offer early access to treatment for skin cancer, which can have a positive impact on the long term prognosis for patients. According to Cancer Research UK 100% of people with melanoma skin cancer will survive a year or more after treatment if the disease is caught at its earliest stage, compared with 53% of cases diagnosed in its latest stage.

Dr Borysiewicz’s top sun safety tips:

Use in-date SPF – SPF actually has a use-by date, which is typically around a year, but it varies by brand. Check the bottle to see how long your product should last, and if in doubt, throwing out last year’s sun creams and using an in-date SPF ensures it’s still providing maximum protection

Cover your whole body – when applying sun cream, people tend to apply to their face, arms and chest, but can often forget to protect other parts of their body like their eyelids, scalps, and feet, but these can still burn like any other part of the body. Use sun cream all over your body, and cover up with light clothing, hats and sunglasses to boost

your protection when out and about

Don’t underestimate the British sun – we can have some pretty hot days in the UK, and using sun protection shouldn’t just be reserved for holidays and trips abroad. We should actually be using SPF every day to prevent sun damage, particularly on parts of the body that are always exposed like your neck and face, even in overcast weather

If you do get burnt – cool down your body with a cold compress. This will pull heat away from the site of the burn and help ease inflammation. A cool shower and/or a wet towel placed on the affected area can provide some immediate respite. Once cooled, you can add a moisturiser, such as Aloe Vera to the affected area to soothe the skin.

Mole Health Check for £595

If you’re worried about your skin or want reassurance on an existing mole, King Edward VII’s Hospital offers an all-inclusive a through mole mapping examination and follow up treatment plan for £595. For more information, contact: Mon- Fri 0203 930 1392 or visit kingedwardvii.co.uk

OCCASIONWEAR TRENDS FOR WEDDING SEASON

Go bold with bright hues and sparkly accessories, says Katie Wright.

and blazer dresses, make sure yours is in a statement shade or bold print.

Ruffles

Wedding season is finally and with a surplus of ceremonies taking place due to the continuing pandemic backlog, you might have quite a few celebrations to attend. That means you’ll need outfits – and what’s more fun than getting dolled up for a special occasion? When it comes to occasionwear, summer is all about joyous colour and texture – perfect for partying from day to night. From dresses and suits to shoes and bags, these are the trends every wedding guest needs to know about…

Slip dresses

The Nineties classic – a favourite of Kate Moss during her supermodel heyday – made a comeback on the SS23 catwalks as part of the boudoir dressing trend. Maxi and midi slip dresses in pastel and sunset shades are more wedding-friendly than the supershort lace-edged kind – they’re also a chic option for bridesmaids.

Retro florals

Flower power never goes out of style, and this season is all about hippie-inspired prints in the brightest hues. Look for retro detailing too – think halter necks, balloon sleeves and babydoll silhouettes.

Statement suits

Two-piece tailoring is what the coolest guests will be rocking this wedding season – and we don’t just mean the guys. From the timeless jacket and trousers combo to short suits

As seen on the catwalks at Richard Quinn, Molly Goddard and Chanel, ruffles are big news –literally – this season, with voluminous tulle and feathers galore. Go all-out with oodles of 3D froth or keep it simple with some soft, flowing frills.

Embellished heels

Accessorise your statement suit or frill-tastic frock with a pair of blingy heels. Wear a pastel dress with bejewelled courts in a contrasting tone or add metallic sandals to a tailored look –these embellished beauties will give you lots of mileage throughout spring and summer.

Beaded bags

Complete your look with a vintage-inspired beaded clutch bag. Decorated with intricate pearls and sequins, these pretty purses are just big enough to hold all your wedding day essentials.

CHOOSING THE PERFECT GARDEN FURNITURE WITH BRIDGMAN

It’s crucial to invest in the perfect garden furniture, as the right pieces can elevate an alfresco design scheme to unimagined heights. With a range of materials to choose from, including rope, rattan and even fully waterproof outdoor fabrics, it can be difficult to know which pieces will best suit your space.

Francesca Hadland, Styling Expert for luxury British furniture-makers Bridgman, shares her top tips on how to choose the right design materials for your garden.

ROPE

Rope furniture is a relatively new material for garden furniture. Bringing a natural infusion to outdoor spaces, this versatile material will suit a range of schemes. Benefitting from a powder-coated aluminium or steel frame, our rope furniture ensures absolute rust-resistance and year-round protection. Designed with contemporary elegance in mind, our exclusive Cannes collection combines Taupe UV resistant rope with a tight handwoven design. Ensuring sumptuous comfort, the taupe cushions pair perfectly with on-trend hues of orange, coral and wicker accents for long, lazy afternoons basking in the sunshine.

RATTAN

More durable than its natural counterpart, synthetic rattan is the most popular material for garden furniture. UV-resistant and woven around rustproof powder-coated aluminium frames, our rattan furniture can be left out in the sun without worrying about damage. Incredibly easy to clean, simply wipe down with a cloth and warm soapy water to keep your rattan pieces looking their best. We always recommend opting for a full round rattan weave over half round for unmatched comfort and premium style. The tightness of a furniture’s rattan weave can also indicate its quality, with a loose, unstable weave suggesting that the product will not last.

Indoor summer dining... LA DOLCE VITA LIVING

Wayfair’s Resident Style Advisor, Dee Fontenot, shares her expert tips to create a sun-kissed indoor space that captures the essence of the Amalfi coast - the ultimate backdrop for summer soirees...

Channel the spirit of Italian summer by bringing the outside in when styling up an indoor tablescape. Statement vases filled with garden-cut blooms will bring a little magic to your table and can be integrated easily and affordably. Use a range of vessels in staggered heights and a medley of different florals, from blousy roses to bright tulips for a bold look.

Filling a carafe with fresh fruit and herbs is an easy way to bring both a sense of finesse and a dash of colour to your table. Forgo traditional lemon slices in favour of zesty pink grapefruit and sicilian oranges, adding a few sprigs of mint for an easy aromatic addition that will look good and taste delicious!

Don’t worry about matching your tableware. An eclectic mix of plates, napkins and coloured glasses will make your table feel approachable as well as stylish. Relaxed Mediterranean hosting is all about the ‘artfully undone’ look.

Think of your summer tablescape in the same way that you would your interior, choosing a small handful of recurring colours running throughout. If you’re looking to channel destination style, add a few hot accent shades - think look-at-me pink, bold cobalt or sunny yellow.

For a true Italian holiday feel, make sure that refreshing tipples are easily at hand. A stylish serving trolley with spritz aplenty will be a welcome addition to any dinner party, as well as a show-stopping talking point.

Feeling adventurous? Switch out traditional wall art for a touch of drama with a platescaping display. Opt for a variety of sizes, but stick to a distinctive colour palette for a cohesive look. Patterned melamine plates will look just as authentic as vintage finds but will be lighter and kinder to your walls. wayfair.co.uk

Interest in outdoor design soars

As the mercury rises and the evenings remain lighter, homeowners are firmly fixated on the great outdoors, according to new research from independent tile specialists Porcelain Superstore.

Data from Pinterest shows that interest in the term ‘home outdoor’ is currently 10,000% (yes, 10 THOUSAND%) higher than the same time last year, while ‘backyard living’ is trending 30% higher than this time last year.

And for those homeowners looking to create an outdoor oasis, Porcelain Superstore have the perfect base to kick start any garden makeover with their wealth of outdoor tiles.

Abbas Youssefi, Director of Porcelain Superstore, said: “Homeowners are trying to maximise every inch of their living space and we are seeing more attention being paid to external flooring around which a garden makeover can be built.

“Outdoor tiles are ideal for those who want a

gorgeous garden but minimal upkeep. Not only do they look stunning and retain their good looks over time, but they will really set the tone around which the rest of your outdoor living space can be developed.”

All of the outdoor tiles in Porcelain Superstore’s range come with an R11 Slip Rating as a minimum and at 20mm thick, are purposely designed for use outdoors.

Abbas added: “We have worked hard to curate a collection of wood and stone-effect tiles that exude luxury. And even after years of footfall and everything the British weather can throw at them, a quick wash and they will look stunning for decades.”
