A group of injured veterans and guests recently joined Wounded Warrior Project ® (WWP) for a day on the waves during a surfing excursion at Fort Pierce Inlet State Park. Participants spent the day enjoying the ocean and bonding with their service brothers and sisters. This was the fifth year for the highly anticipated gathering, where volunteers from the community spent the day teaching wounded warriors how to surf. "Surfing has always seemed like good exercise to me," said Army and Army National Guard veteran Richard Vreeland. "It's a sport I've always wanted to learn." In a WWP survey of the injured warriors it serves, 32 percent of veterans said physical activity helps them cope with stress and depression, and nearly 47 percent said talking with other warriors boosts their ability to manage their mental health. Social events like this surfing day highlight the importance of managing mental health through physical activity and connecting with others. "WWP physical health and wellness events get us out of the house and remind us no matter which obstacles we are facing, it is possible to participate and thrive and be active and healthy," said Army veteran Erika Bellwoar. "I will continue to sign up for activities like this because they benefit my long-term wellbeing. I have been blessed to see so many positive results when I take part in these programs." Erika attended the Fort Pierce surfing event in its inaugural year, and was eager to get back to it and see if she still had what it takes to conquer the waves. "I wanted to see if I could be a little bit of the adrenaline junkie I had always been before," she said. "I was nervous because I hadn't attempted anything physical since being injured, but that day lit a fire in me. Not only did I develop a love of surfing, I discovered that – with a little modification – I can still pursue my adventurous dreams." These fun gatherings support the long-term recovery needs of warriors by reintroducing them to the unique bonds experienced during military service – in settings that accommodate their injuries and social anxieties. "It was great being in the water with fellow wounded warriors, as well as all of the incredible volunteers who helped out," said Marine veteran Hipolito Arriaga. "It's important because it allows for the building of community, and it helps bridge the gap between veterans and civilians." After the warriors and volunteers tired themselves out on the water, they headed back to the sand for a barbecue. Socializing with other veterans can help injured warriors feel less isolated. "It is amazing to be around people who are coming from the same place with the same struggles," Erika said. "That and the enjoyment of accomplishing something physical together can't be beat." About Wounded Warrior Project The mission of Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) is to honor and empower Wounded Warriors. The WWP purpose is to raise awareness and to enlist the public's aid for the needs of injured service members, to help injured servicemen and women aid and assist each other, and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs. WWP is a national, nonpartisan organization headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida. To get involved and learn more, visit woundedwarriorproject.org. PRNewswire-USNewswire—source

Who We Are FLOW is open to everyone; men, women, youth, boys, girls and families who desire to share God’s love through their actions towards surfers. We are an outreach where we care for surfers at the beach, at surf contests and at special events. Although we do surf and have surfers involved you do not need to be a surfer to serve God. Please take a moment to pray for our group and see if you, or any of your friends or family, feel drawn into our mission field. If you have any questions feel free to approach any of the FLOW guys or gals at the events or e-mail us at flowsurfers@yahoo.com Monthly Events We meet each month at local surf event or contest sites. We arrive early and either help the contest get set up or we help beachgoers who are carrying arms full of chairs, umbrellas and coolers. In between we surf, pass out snacks or drinks and FLOW stuff. Afterwards, we gather for a devotion and discuss upcoming events and opportunities to serve others. Our devotions are very casual and are geared for first timers to Bible scholars. All are welcome to hear God’s word and ask questions like, “What does that have to do with me?”. Special Events We try and pack up the vans and see our local sites. The wave pool in Orlando is obviously a favorite as well as our Summer FLOW Jam where we jam as many kids into two vans and travel up coast and camp our way back home while surfing as many breaks a possible. There are lots of ways to be involved just come and see. We serve at National and Regional Contests: ASF Florida Contests, ASF Championships, NSSA Southeast Contests, NSSA East Coast Championships, Quiksilver King of the Peak, Gnarly Charley Surf Series, Walking on Water Movie Tours, Rip Curl Grom Search… Get plugged at: flowsurfers@yahoo.com www.fellowshipledonwater.com www.instagram.com/flow_surfers/ www.facebook.com/FellowshipLedOnWater

“I swear on a stack of Bibles that’s the truth.” Do these phrases annoy you? If so, you’re not alone. Jesus doesn’t care for stuff like that either. First of all, it’s demeaning to God. But Jesus also points out that if you have to resort to calling on God’s name as a way to convince people to believe what you’re saying, perhaps you’re not a person of integrity. Jesus simply says, “Let your yes mean yes, and your no mean no.” In other words, people should believe what you are saying because you always speak with truth and honesty. People should be able to trust you because you never gossip and you are always faithful to your promises. Are you a person of integrity? Do your words have credibility? Can people simply take you at your word because your word is good? Consider the words you are about to say before you say them.

Matthew 7:24-27 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.” I was thinking about how the story of The Three Little Pigs fits into describing how our foundation should be in Christ. As you may know, the first two pigs built their houses with straw and stick, only to have the big bad wolf blow it down. Then the final pig built his house with brick and when the wolf tried to blow it down he couldn’t. Now, the Bible says anyone who listens to Christ’s teachings and follows it is wise. It’s like a person who builds his house on solid rock. The wind and waves can beat against it all it wants, but it can’t tear it down. But, if you don’t follow His teaching it’s like building your house on sand. When the floods and winds come it will collapse because it has no foundation to stand on. The first two little pigs represent that house on sand. Without proper wisdom you’ll build, but when the enemy comes, all it takes is for him to blow on you and you collapse. But when you use bricks of wisdom, like the final pig, when you build on solid rock, the enemy can’t tear you down. Focus on building a foundation in Christ, the Rock. So that when the enemy comes, no matter how much he huffs and puffs, he can’t tear you down, because your strength comes from your Rock, Jesus Christ.

It’s easy to miss the Impact Surfboards center of operations. Located just over the Indian River from one of South Florida’s most consistently rippable waves and lost among the many boat yards and trailer homes of Ft. Pierce, Florida; the small, nondescript, residential house could easily be the crib of some local fisherman. But instead, secured behind a chain link fence amid the pungent stench of fresh resin exists the nerve center of a surfboard company that has been quietly churning out state of the art equipment and epitomizing the surfing lifestyle for decades. “I started shaping so I could surf all the time”, he tells me after lunch as he is carving life out of yet another lifeless surfboard blank. “I never wanted to let down a boss or let down guys I worked with every time the waves came up. I didn’t want to keep scrambling for excuses to explain why I missed a day of work. I just wanted to go surfing. That’s it.” Impact made its, well, impact back in 1978 when Charles was shaping just a few boards a month for local kids. Since then, he reckons he has shaped some 20,000 boards for surfers all over the planet, while at the same time learning from other shapers he’s met on the road. He spares no admiration for the shapers who have rubbed off on him along the way like Hawaiian icons the Willis brothers and Jeff Bushman as well as a handful of craftsman from South and Central America. Looking around the shaping room, one wouldn’t guess this guy is on the cutting edge of surfboard shaping. Besides the fact that he rarely wears a face mask or respirator as he scours foam dust into the air, there is also an aura of resistance to the modern world. Old calipers and rusty T-squares hang on the wall like some dentist chair nightmare. He holds his bulky planer made in the 1950’s up and smiles, “The Skill 100…It’s every shapers dream.” While shapes coming out of the Impact factory are on the cusp of modern design, Charles doesn’t subscribe to the idea that boards are retail products to be mass produced by just anyone. “This is meant to be hard!” he snips. Blanks are being designed with almost all curves already in place. “Shapers became scrapers. The blanks come all ready to go with just a few swipes needed. Shaping is a craft. It’s not something you can learn from a Shaping 101 video. There are some things you can only learn from shaping a lot of boards.” And shaping a lot of boards is what Charles does every day, when he’s not surfing. But he says that what he does is different from most of the known shapers out there. “I’m not shaping for surf shops. I’m shaping for surfers…real people with real names who have unique styles and body sizes and surfing goals.” These individual surfers’ names can be seen scribbled in pencil on the wall, on the wooden saw horses, or on photos lying in the shaping shed. Name…phone number…nickname…weight…etc. It’s all a little bit Flintstone-ish, but it has that timeless simplicity that makes old stories better and old cars cooler. Just like Charles’ Skill 100 planer. The Impact Factory has lasted while other local surf shops and shapers have come and gone. But he sees his legacy as something different. “On my tombstone, I’d rather see the word “surfer” than “shaper”. That’s why I got into this and that’s why I keep doing this.”

In the nineteenth century the greatest tightrope walker in the world was a man named Charles Blondin. On June 30, 1859, he became the first man in history to walk on a tightrope across Niagara Falls. Over twenty-five thousand people gathered to watch him walk 1,100 feet suspended on a tiny rope 160 feet above the raging waters. He worked without a net or safety harness of any kind. The slightest slip would prove fatal. When he safely reached the Canadian side, the crowd burst into a mighty roar. In the days that followed, he would walk across the Falls many times. Once he walked across on stilts; another time he took a chair and a stove with him and sat down midway across, cooked an omelet, and ate it. Once he carried his manager across riding piggyback. And once he pushed a wheelbarrow across loaded with 350 pounds of cement. On another occasion he asked the cheering spectators if they thought he could push a man across sitting in a wheelbarrow. A mighty roar of approval rose from the crowd. Spying a man cheering loudly, he asked, “Sir, do you think I could safely carry you across in this wheelbarrow?” “Yes, of course.” Then the Great Blondin looked into the mans eyes and replied with a smile, “Get in,”. The man refused. That makes it clear, doesn’t it? It’s one thing to believe a man can walk across by himself. It’s another thing to believe he could safely carry you across. But it’s something else entirely to actually get into the wheelbarrow yourself. It’s not enough to believe that Christ theoretically could save you. It’s not enough to say, Christ can get to the other side, or Christ can get people to the other side, or Christ can get me to the other side. At some point, you have to get in the wheelbarrow. Until you trust all to him, you are not saved. Up until that point you are just a believer and the Bible says that “even the demons believe and they shudder” Once you step into faith with Christ, then he will guide you. And, I have good news for you, Jesus has carried many people safely across the great divide, and he has never lost anyone yet. You can trust in him and that’s all it take.

Do you ever hear the cool stories of “Super Christians”? Do you ever think, “Man, I wish I was a real ripper so that I could speak on God’s behalf”? I know, I get tricked into thinking like that sometimes. I want to remind you of a well-known story, it’s found in the Bible in the book of John chapter 6. In the story there are thousands of people and they’ve all come to hear Jesus teach but they don’t have enough food for everyone to eat. The story ends with Jesus miraculously supplying enough food for thousands of people, but look at the middle section. Jesus is questioning the disciples about how they are going to feed all these people when one of the disciples puts forth a statement. It’s not even a suggestion because there’s no solution in the statement. Change viewpoints for a second There’s this little grom watching Jesus talk with the disciples. He’s got his lunch, that his Mom gave him, and he’s standing in the middle of a sea of people. The kid doesn’t come off as dumb enough to think he’s going to feed everyone (over 5,000 people) on his lunch. But something in him says that Jesus can fix this. So he just offers his lunch to Jesus. Back to the viewpoint of the disciples Andrew says, “Here is a boy with five small pieces of bread and two small fish…” Then, just so the other disciples won’t smack him in the back of the head as if to say, “what are you thinking” – he adds, “but how far will they go among so many?” We’ve already stated how it ends. The point: It’s not how great the gift you have to offer. It’s that you are giving it to the allpowerful Creator of the universe to do with whatever He wants. So don’t worry if you’re not the coolest or if you are. Either way, are you willing to give whatever you have to Jesus and let Him use it? Are you willing to let the light of Jesus shine through you in your lineup? Offer what you have today to Jesus and see what He does.

“ To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God…” Luke 8:10 I love a good mystery; as a child I had a book titled “2 Minute Mysteries.” It was a book of short stories, in which a crime would be described and the reader was left to guess who the guilty party was. The trick was, the answer was hidden. There was always something tucked away that was hard to find, almost like a secret, that revealed the answer. I would try so hard to guess correctly, but most often, when I flipped to the back of the book for the answer I found my guess was wrong. When Jesus speaks of the “Mysteries of the Kingdom,” He is not speaking of a secret truth that only a few can understand by reading their Bibles with a special code. Jesus is telling His disciples that everything we need to know about the Kingdom of God can be found by those who are part of it. In the Bible, Paul tells us, the truths of God cannot be understood until we are converted (1 Corinthians 1:18). To the unbelieving mind, the things of God rarely make sense, but upon receiving Christ, His words come to life. We find them to be our daily bread, and our source of strength and encouragement. Jesus promised, when the Holy Spirit came, He would guide us in the truth. We are given an example of this at Jesus’ baptism. After the Holy Spirit descended upon Him, He heard the Father speak. One of the benefits of the Spirit coming upon us is, the Word of God comes to life. We begin to hear God speak to our lives as we read His Word. John tells us, because of the work of the Spirit, we have an anointing from the Father and do not need anyone to teach us. Now John is not undermining the need for pastors who teach the Bible, but is declaring, the same God who speaks to Him, will speak to you. We do not need great intellect in order to hear from God, but simply time with Him in the pages of His Word. The privilege of knowing God has been given to each of us. We can hear Him speak, daily, in the pages of His Word. I wonder, are you taking advantage of that? If you have received Christ, and been filled with the Spirit, allow me to encourage you to go into the Word expecting God to speak to you. He promises to reveal to you the mysteries of His Kingdom. Pastor Jim When I read this message it took me back to something I just heard at church. Here Jim says that “to the unbelieving mind, the things of God rarely make sense”. Until you receive Jesus you really don’t understand what all the fuss is about. But when you accept Jesus into your life you wake up to a brand new day with hope and excitement for yourself and for others. Imagine what it was like in the “old days, like the 50’s” when you would have to huff your 10 foot, 40 pound, single fin down to the beach on a cold winter morning. At that point it’s all you know and you are fine with it but what if you get to the beach and there is some kid with a full suite on, to keep him warm, and he is holding a 5’8” thruster. At first you don’t understand what is going on but then he paddles out on a 4’ day and rips. He stays out for hours in that space suit and the board seems to catch everything and turn on a dime. How can this be, I have never seen anything like it before. And that’s the point, without experiencing God and the salvation of Jesus your life is incomplete even when you don’t know it. Even worse, after you have seen this kid surf those waves and stay warm while doing so, he offers you a new board and wetsuit, for free, and you decline and walk away. Even if it’s just to prove a point, investigate Jesus, read the Bible and ask questions, but don’t just walk away.

"My name is Shawn Boone. In 2001 I was facing a life sentence under the 3 strikes law for violent offenders. While in confinement one night I was overwhelmed with the reality of my consequences. I remember in that moment I cried out "If your real God come to me!" Over the next hour I experienced the supernatural presence of Gods love washing over me like hot honey! I felt shame and guilt and fear being driven out by his unconditional love and radical grace! I remember crying and asking God to forgive me for all the wrong I had done and people I hurt due to my violent past and almost 2 decades of crime and drug use. It's now been almost 15 years since I surrendered my life and my heart to Jesus, and I can honestly say that today I love Him more than the day I had my first encounter with His amazing love. God has not only redeemed me and set me free from that old life but he has also given me the greatest privilege and honor to continue to point others to this life giving person Jesus! My prayer today, is that all my friends and family would experience the same Jesus that radically changed my life over 14 years ago. You don't have to change anything about your life. All you have to do is simply believe that you are incapable of saving yourself and changing your life. Trust the only one who can save you and change you......Jesus!"

5 interesting facts we learned about today’s surf community from ‘The State of Surf’. Using statistics and analytics compiled by SURFER, SURFING and Strategic Market Intelligence, the comprehensive report looks at the trends that have defined the past year for surf brands, retailers and consumers. If you consider yourself part of the surfing community, the report is fascinating and well worth a read. Here are five things we learned from “The State of Surf”: Kelly might be king, but Bethany Hamilton is queen: Kelly Slater has been on top of the surf world for so long that it’s hard to remember a time where he wasn’t omnipresent. And while the 44-year-old ageless wonder seems destined to take over the world, he actually isn’t the surfer fans engage with the most online. That honor goes to Bethany Hamilton. With just under 4.3 million followers online and an average engagement of 16,589 fans per social post, Hamilton dominates the social media scene. Not everyone is thrilled about wave parks: As you might have noticed, the race to build wave pools was all the rage over the past year or so. But your average surfer isn’t picturing mechanical waves when they dream up their future surf vacations: Fifty-eight percent of all participants studied said they wouldn’t go on vacation to a wave park. They are, however, open to a World Surf League Championship Tour contest held on man-made waves, with two-thirds of participants saying they’d watch the world’s best battle it out on artificial waves. Surfing truly is a lifestyle: You already know that surfing is more than a physical pursuit, it’s a lifestyle, but TW BIZ has the data to prove it. “The State of Surf” reports that 67 percent of surfers surf at least once a week, with 55 percent surfing multiple times each week. That number is huge when compared to other sports in the action sports industry. For example, only 34 percent of paddleboarders polled said they paddleboard at least once a week. Surfers value their personal time: Surfers seem to be less tech-obsessed than others: Eighty percent of those polled said they think it’s necessary to have a “digital detox” everyday where they completely disconnect from technology. Forget presidential candidates, surfers are the ones who really support small business. Politicians can talk about supporting small businesses all they want, but surfers are actually walking the walk: Forty-two percent of surfers said they buy their surfboards straight from their shapers, while another 39 percent said they get them from surf shops. NSSA, ESA, ASF, Gnarly Charley, USA PRIME, Single Fin Showdown‌ you name it these kids are at it. What a great time we have traveling around with all of you at contests up and down the cost. These are just a few of our, and your, photos taken along the way.

Why Blank? Like a surfboard, we all begin as a raw blank; scuffed up, yellowed and not so pretty. God works in us to shape us for His glory and according to His plan. We don’t know exactly what our final shape will look like, but He is the master shaper and we have to trust in his plan. You may want to be a big wave gun and he may be shaping you into a fish. Why a fish? He has a plan to use you when a wider outline, slightly thicker rail and fuller tail is needed. How well will you work, for His glory, if your outline is for Pipe and you are surfing Ocean Ave.? In this shaping bay, we will never be glassed. The Master Shaper is never finished with us.
