Running a magazine is no easy task particularly in a tiny state like Goa. Print media is breathing its last and people are increasingly turning towards digital platforms. The quick content of Snapchats, Instagram stories, posts and reels is addictively engaging and instantly gratifying as compared to longer articles and features. Storytelling is the most difficult task among all content writing. Maybe because the storyteller is expected to be an artist. An artist who can put his story into words, and make them sound beautiful. An artist can make a topic sound interesting, even when it is not. At Incredible Goa we strive for good storytelling. Through our print and online medium, we try to bring the stories that have never been told before and that is the USP of our magazine. In this issue we have lined up some inspiring stories of some Incredible People of Goa that will encourage you to learn from the mistakes of others, grow in your field of work, and make this world a better place than you found it. We also bring you some relevant stories that will keep you informed on what’s happening in Goa and in its social sphere. The Cover of this issue is a story of a small town boy who went to become a millionaire in a very short span of time and Today he runs a 20 million dollar company in Canada with Zero Debts, what would be more inspiring if not this? I meet many people and write lots of inspiring stories about them but the story of Vijay
Thomas is one of the most motivating stories that I wrote till date and I am sure it will surely inspire you to take the right steps at the right time and in the right direction to become a successful person. Another story that should inspire you is about Mr Brahmanand Shankwalkar who went to become the finest goalkeeper in the football fraternity of Goa. His journey to success is a most interesting one because of the kind of struggle he went through to achieve his dreams. Mr Brahmanand is the recipient of the Arjuna Award for his unmatched achievement in the sports fraternity in the country. This is the era of start-ups and Rajesh Joshi helps many startups to achieve their dreams. Rajesh Joshi is a CEO of Atal Incubation Centre at GIM and he has helped more than a hundred startups across the country till date. His new assignment at GIM has given him an opportunity to help many startups from Goa. His story in the Startup Goa section will be surely worth reading. Only a Woman can empower a Woman, is what Apurva Chafadkar has to say, she is also helping many women entrepreneurs by giving them a business opportunity in her venture. Her journey from a marketing department of a five star hotel to setting up her own dream venture is another inspiring story that you won't want to miss in this issue. We have added the section of Your Dentist in this issue that will help you with the advice on how to maintain your dental hygiene and stay away from cavities, so until next time, flash

HARDER YOU WORK, LUCKIER YOU GET! By Rajesh Ghadge
I have written many stories on the inspiring journeys of entrepreneurs from Goa but this is something very close to my heart since I also share the same land where Vijay comes from: the beautiful place called Aldona. Today, Vijay runs a business empire that has revenues over 20m US dollars which is about 150 crores INR, with ZERO debt. Let's find out how and where all this started? I have a very interesting story to tell this time, so please stick around and make sure you don't miss out this inspiring story.

COVER STORY Vijay talks of how a chai wala can become a PM and hence anyone can dream. “You just have to dream and manifest it in you. We live in a wonderful world where everything is possible,” says Vijay. “The only reason something doesn't happen is because people don't dream big or don't push those dreams hard enough.” Vijay also believes that luck also plays a major role in your success and failure. “Many a time things don't turn out the way you plan it and luck does play a role in this. I have come across many people who don't believe in luck, but I do not agree to that. According to me there is some elements of the universe that helps you when you manifest your dreams into it,” said Vijay, adding that the harder you work, the luckier you get. “You need to think of possibilities. I had always been a daydreamer as a kid and I used to visualize things that will make this world a better place. There is nothing wrong in dreaming and it does not hurt to dream, and I kept dreaming and grabbed each opportunity that came in my way. There is a saying in Canada, quoted by a famous hockey player, Wayne Gretzky: 'You miss 100% of the shots, you don't take. Taking shots at goal often increases your chances of scoring in business and in life in general. I truly believed in that and made sure that I take a shot at every opportunity that came my way and tried to make the most out of it.” The 20 Million Dollar Company Vijay shares with us that his parents were not in favour of him getting into business and they advised him against it. “My mother told me that nobody in our family had been successful in business and 20 / INCREDIBLE GOA / APRIL 2022

anybody who tried their hand at anything business related, failed miserably,” said Vijay adding that his parents told him to get a job and work for any big software company. “I would have been a vice president by now if I had to listen to my parents but that was not my dream, I truly wanted to do something on my own and create a business and decided to give a chance to myself. I was very adamant to make it successful, which I did and today, I run a 20m dollars (150 crore) company with zero debt.” Vijay's wife has been a strong support system in his journey of success. “For the first 4 years, our company did not make any money and I did not even pay a salary to myself,” said Vijay adding, In a place like Canada, which was completely a new terrain for him, he had no idea how this will turn out. “My wife always supported me to achieve my dreams and today my family owns 100 percent equity into the company since we never raise any funding from any other source. I have built this company from scratch.” Today, Vijay owns a decently sized IT business and there is a very interesting story about how all this started. After completing his MBA from the Goa Institute of Management, Vijay joined Satyam Computers, a leading software services company in the late 90's. “I worked there for 3 years in the management consulting division of the company, and I was involved in some ground breaking projects. During that time, Chinese busineses were looking to expand into India and the bicycle business was ripe for the taking. A major Indian bicycle company approached us to find a solution and we redesigned their supply chain and made

them more efficient and customer centric. I was involved in a palm pilot based B2B E-commerce system for them in 1999,” he said adding that with the help of that system a vendor could order their stock directly thought the E-commerce platform developed by them and get the bicycles delivered to their shops. “This was the time when the e-commerce platforms such a Flipkart and Amazon did not exist. We were so much ahead of our time that we used the palm pilot to execute the orders.” The Turning Point Everyone has a turning point in their lives which changes their destiny and when I asked Vijay about the same, he said, “The turning point is very interesting. Harshad Mehta opened the doors of the stock market for India which attracted me towards it, and I started reading more about stocks and then I borrowed some money from my dad to invest in the stock market,” he said that as he went to Engineering school, he honed this skill even more “Let me tell you a very interesting story behind this,” he continued, “When I joined the engineering college we used to pay the fees every semester and in case you miss one payment for one semester, the late fee was only five hundred rupees, so that gave me an idea to invest the money of the fees in stocks and for this I got some of my friends together and invested even their money thinking we will make some profit and pay the late fee charges in the second semester. It was quite a big risk since everything was at stake and if something had to go wrong the whole thing would have turned upside down. I told everyone that I will pay their late fees and invested all the money into

various stocks but luck played its part and I got all the money back with the profits and that enterprising thing made me confident enough to venture into the business in the future.” After finishing Engineering, Vijay did his MBA from Goa Institute of Management and joined Satyam Computers. “It is due to the IT industry that I got to travel across the world and I worked overseas in Boston for some time,” he said adding, From Boston, he got an opportunity in a Canadian company in Montreal as a project manager. As his wife could not get a marketing job in Montreal as French was essential in marketing, they moved to Toronto after a year. “I joined a French company in Paris with operations in Canada and they made me the head of their Toronto operations. I did very well there and we received many awards but then the real turning point came into my life that changed everything,” he paused for a while and continued, “I came to know that the owners in France sold the company to new investors and I was the only one left in Canada that was reporting to the folks in France and they wanted me to rebuild the company and build right from scratch in Toronto. This was the straw that broke the camel's back. That made me think if I had built the company for somebody else right from scratch then I would rather build it for myself and the only difference was that if I had to build it for someone else, I would get a salary but if I had to do it for myself, then I had to pay for myself which was a big risk, that too in a country that was very new to me and far away from my home. But I decided to take the risk and rest is history.”

providing a solution to sectors that others don't venture into it thinking it's trivial, that may not get the big money, but what they missed is the opportunity that opens the Pandora's Box of big business along the way,” said Vijay. According to Vijay there is no work small and big, “When I started my entrepreneurial journey, I used to do everything myself, like all the selling, consultancy,
floating my way to survive,” said Vijay adding that as went ahead things started working out, he had nothing to lose and everything to gain. “During those days, IBM, a big software giant, had a contract with the Walmart group and they were looking out for partners with the knowledge of supply chain management. I decide to take up the opportunity and became an
During that time Vijay was living in a small one-bedroom apartment in Toronto with his wife and daughter and he had an office in the same apartment, “I had one engineer who would come and do the work. It was a difficult time, but we pulled it off,” said Vijay adding that the contract, which was considered small by the big multimillion companies, was actually the
some of the big accounts like Sony Music, that no way I would have got and hence according to me the luck also played a very big role into this.” Here, Vijay leaned one important lesson and that is to go on the path that others avoid and today he uses this practice as his tried and tested business formula. “I work on this theory of

Some of my earliest customers were impressed that I was also able to speak to them about their business from not just the software solution perspective but also from a strategic perspective and they started coming up and asking “What else can you do?” This way I started working on new avenues and one thing led to

and there was a need of building entirely new supply chain, ordering system, connecting the vendors with suppliers, shipping, tracking and invoicing all these in just 6 weeks. They went to all the big software solution companies like IBM, Accenture and Deloitte and everybody turned down their offer saying it cannot be done in 6 weeks but I grabbed this opportunity
said Vijay adding that don't just do a project- do something that will make an impact. “Tangentia is not the cheapest solution provider in the market, we are at times more expensive than TCS, I n f o s y s , W i p r o a n d Te c h Mahindra, but we have the agility, expertise and time bound delivery systems in place that makes our solutions superior. There is a province called Ontario in Canada and in 2015, the premier (CM) of the state went on announcing in November that there will be a beer in grocery stores before Christmas. It was a great start because until then people had no option but to buy the beer from only government liquor stores. It was very short notice
saying we (Tangentia) will do it, and we worked day and night 24X7, and we delivered in 6 weeks making record time, and today even after 8 years, we run the entire supply chain for Beer, Wine and Cider in the province of Ontario,” he added. “This is called making an impact. COVER STORY perspective,” said Vijay adding that Satyam had 40 thousand employees. It was there that he started a quiz called “Jigyasa” in 1999. The name Jigyasa was suggested by one of my colleagues, Susmita Gupta, who suggested that name Jigyasa (means inquisitiveness) and I decided to take up that name for the quiz. It started as an email quiz initially as we used to email the quiz once in a week to everybody. It was just amongst 150 people who used to send the answers and then we had a prize for the winners. Slowly the numbers started growing so next time we sent it to 5000 people. The growth really caught up with us and finally we decided to send it to everyone at Satyam, that means 40 thousand people, and in the bargain, the server crashed! And that was the end of the story. The Satyam technical network team banned Jigyasa ” It was in year 2017 Vijay decided, now it's time to create a brand out of the Jigyasa Quiz. “By this time we

had some funds from Tangentia to pump into the “Jigyasa Brand” and to bring value to what we were doing all this while as a hobby. Initially it started from Goa and then we went national quite soon after. This year, we had the best of the teams from across the country participating in the quiz. The teams from IIT and IIMs participated in Jigyasa Quiz. Tangentia Jigyasa Quiz is now a permanent fixture on the Indian quizzing circuit (similar to the Formula One Circuit) with top teams ensuring that they keep this time open every year to participate,” said Vijay, adding that there are many event management companies who approached him to take up the Jigyasa Quiz but he did not go for it for the simple reason that he himself loves to do this. “It is a hobby for me and I enjoyed doing it myself.” The VC Vijay always saw opportunity in everything and this trait of his made him a well- known

It was in year 2019 that we invested in a Kerala-based company Cycloides and later on we bought the entire company. One of my investments is Dogspot.in which is one of India's top pet portal ” I am very proud to say that Tangentia Ventures has a higher stake in that company as compared to Ratan Tata who is also an investor.” Vijay is planning to setup a Tangentia Ventures Fund, wherein people will invest money into start-ups and scalable projects, and whatever returns come in, will be distributed amongst the investors. “We will work like a

During Covid, we invested in a couple of companies and one of them was a laundry business in Toronto. While doing the laundry, they also started providing stitching services and then one thing led to another and they started making masks and gowns for the hospitals. They had only limited space so I decided to invest in this company and today this company is known as Clean Planet and it is the largest manufacturers of isolation hospital gowns in Canada wherein they make 200,000 gowns a week. This is one of the best investments that Tangentia did wherein the company had scaled up from nowhere to the biggest company in Canada.” Vijay has a plan of entering into this segment in a big way in the near future and he is sure of creating that change in the society.

Shigmo is a spring “ festival: a five-day
By Staff Reporter
THE POST COVID CELEBRATION OF SHIGMO IN GOA BRINGS COLOUR TO LIFE The Roots Its roots can be traced to Puranic mythology. The term "Shigmo" is a Konkani term derived from the Prakrit word "Suggimaho'' and the Sanskrit word "Sugrishmaka." The Shigmo festival is divided into two parts: DhaktoShigmo and VhadloShigmo. The rural population, farmers, and the labor class commemorate the DhaktoShigmo, while the VhadloShigmo is more important and is celebrated by all. According to one such legend, Holika was Prahlad's aunt who provoked her brother Hiranyakashapu to torment Prahlad in order to prevent him from repeating the name of the Lord. According to legend, Holika was chased and abused by people before being burned to death. The maturation of the winter crop is also included as a purpose for the Shigmo festival. This spring festival celebrates the Goan Hindu traditions and mythology. 26 / INCREDIBLE GOA / APRIL 2022
Also known as the harvest festival, it is celebrated to welcome the arrival of spring. 14 days of Shigmotsav Celebration According to the Saka calendar of the Hindu community in Goa, it is observed from the 9th moon day to the full moon day in the month of Phalguna (March). It is a time to say goodbye to winter and hello to spring. The festival celebrates the return of warriors who left their homes and families at the end of Dussehra to fight the invaders. The ripening of the winter crop is also included as a reason for the Shigmo festival. This spring festival celebrates the Goan Hindu traditions and mythology. This festival is a mashup of Holi and the carnival. The spectacular parades of street dancers, traditional folk, and intricately and lavishly built floats depicting pictures from regional lore are the star appeal of the 14-day Shigmotsav festival.
The 14-day Shigmotsav festival starts with a Naman (song) and the villagers' collective obeisance. The village deity is bathed and dressed in saffron robes on the first day. A feast is held following the offering of food. Rang Panchami, the fifth day of the festival, is the true day of the fiesta. This day is celebrated in the same way as the Hindu festival Holi, with "gulal," or red powder, and "neel," or blue colour. Local groups dress in gleaming and glitzy customary costumes organise dance performances enveloping the entire region with its whimsical energy celebration of colours. People also carry column-like, red-spotted "dwajas," as well as blowing flutes and beating drums, to assemble at village temples and dance in the temple courtyard to the beat of the drums, singing various folk songs. Shigmo celebrations in the temples of Phatarpya, Jambavali, Dhargale, and Kansarpala are

By twilight, artists perform martial dances such as 'Ghode-morni' or the horse dance, and floats depicting themes from ancient Hindu scriptures arrive to amuse the audience. The grand finale is distinguished by meticulously designed and exquisitely decorated floats. Highlights of Shigmo Festival- THE PARADES The Shigmo Parade would be a captivating event because the street festival would be loaded with dance, music, a Shigmo float parade, and vibrant colours. By Rajesh Ghadge
ONLY A WOMAN CAN EMPOWER ANOTHER WOMAN She always has a passion for culinary activities and right from a young age, she loves to be in the kitchen, cooking mouth-watering food and serving it to others has been her hobby. She is also a foodie: she loves food more than anything else and that is the secret behind her success in the culinary arena. Today, she runs a very wellestablished business called Delicious Delights, that make tasty sweets that melt in the mouth. For any women to get married and go into another family, is a challenging task due to the sudden change in environment, sometimes custom and culture, but for Apurva it was completely different experience, since she got married to a man who was also a foodie and enjoyed visiting different places in the search of great cuisine. “I have been foodie all my life and I think I am very lucky to have a family where I got married, as they are also foodies. I 28 / INCREDIBLE GOA / APRIL 2022
remember exploring restaurants in Goa, around 5-6 years back when there was no trend of Instagram and influencers and all, but my interest was never to become an influencer: I explored the places only for the love of food,” said Apurva. The Beginning of Culinary Journey Apurva's husband has a very sweet tooth and he cannot resist the taste of Mysore Pak. “My husband, Suraj loves Mysore Pak and whenever he has an opportunity to visit Chennai, he would bring some back and if he has any friends travelling, he would ask them to bring some back!” said Apurva adding, the signature product of the Delicious Delight is Mysore Pak and it came into existence due to her husband. “It took me almost 10 attempts to master the preparation of Mysore Pak and that was the beginning of a new journey into the world of culinary delights.” When Apurva started
preparation of sweets, she decided to revive the forgotten recipes. “We have many varieties of sweets in the shops but we have lost our own recipes that were given to us by our grandparents. Who makes the laddoos of wheat that our grandmothers used to make? I saw the trend was vanishing and decided to revive it,” said Apurva adding that Goan Konkani family comes together and make sweets during the festivals and she had learned this from her aunts, who used to make sweets during Ganesh Chaturthi. “Though we live in a nuclear family, during festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi and Diwali we all come together and prepare sweets.” Another thing that prompted Apurva to venture into the preparation of sweets was the degrading quality of the sweets in the state. “The sweets that are sold in the shops nowadays are of a substandard quality compared to what it used to be earlier,” said
Apurva Naik Chafadkar comes from a marketing and sales background and after doing her post-graduation in marketing (MBA), she joined one of the leading resorts in Goa in their marketing department, but her soul has always remained in the kitchen.
”
Apurva. She started introducing homemade sweets into her son's tiffin to make sure that he does not eat the adulterated sweets from outside. “The motichur laddoo that is available in the market, makes use of the artificial colours and that is not good for the health of children and that promoted me to prepare homemade sweets without artificial colours and ingredients.” The USP is Quality According to Apurva, when she prepares sweets for her own consumption or for her customers, she makes sure that it is always fresh and prepared only against the orders. “I don't make and keep sweets: it's done strictly on order so that it remains fresh. This is the reason people repeat the orders with me and they are happy with the quality that I provide them,” said Apurva adding that she has the major customers from North India who order their requirements well in advance, www.incrediblegoa.org
WOMEN EMPOWERMENT “I get orders for destination weddings and these customers are very particular about the quality and they always have customised requirements which they send to their guests along with the invitations and hence maintaining the quality is my prime concern.” Apurva says that she uses only the very purest ingredients and for that she identifies vendors who make ingredients themselves. “For example, I never buy ghee from the market. Instead I have identified a lady who makes this at home and this way I also give her some business and try to empower her with that. Even as far as the packaging is concerned, it is very unique and I am sure that you won't be able to see such packaging anywhere in Goa. I make sure that all the packaging material is biodegradable without plastic and the packaging is also sourced from women entrepreneurs from Mumbai and Delhi.”
Passion for Cooking Apurva has had a passion for cooking since the age of 12. “I used to make biryani and my cousins were big fans of it and I was always in the kitchen. I was always passionate about food and culinary delights and then I decided to turn that passion into my profession,” said Apurva. She would always experiment with the new things in the kitchen. “After leaving my job at the hotel, I decided to dedicate my time to my passion. Even at home, I cook myself, despite having maids because my husband and my kids like the food prepared by me. My husband always encourages me saying that 'you know the science behind cooking' which makes me feel proud and empowered.” There is a very interesting story behind how her passion turned into her profession. “It all started with my preparation of the Mysore Paak that caught the attention of my neighbours, who started
www.incrediblegoa.org
asking me if I can prepare some for them. They were ready to pay for it, and it all started from there. Another thing that encouraged me was the appreciation of my neighbours who would say they did not get such sweets in the shops: the quality and authenticity is of top notch.” Apurva says that none of the sweet shops sells the “Moong Laddoo” “There is a big difference in the taste of homemade sweets and the sweets manufactured in factories. “They make use of artificial colours to make it look very attractive and some ingredients to keep it fresh for longer time, but it is not good for our health. I prepare something called Eden Rose which is a Gulkand flavoured Laddoo and colour we use in that is extracted from beetroot and we use concentrated juice extracted from fruit to get the pink colour in the Laddoos,” she said adding that the idea behind this is is that she wants to serve her customers exactly
what she'd give to her family. “ When I don't serve anything that is harmful to my family then why would I do that to others? To get the yellow colour I use haldi or kesar and the same values I keep intact in Delicious Delight.” For Apurva profitmaking is secondary to creating a brand “When someone eats the sweets prepared by me and says that it reminds them of the food made by their mother, it makes me feel very proud. I have a plan of introducing the recipes that have become extinct in due course of time. And I also believe that one woman can empower other and I do this myself by giving opportunities to other women which is why most of my suppliers are selfemployed women. I do what I preach and that is why I have taken my mother-in-law with me in this entrepreneurial journey of mine.”

ZIGGY'S BY THE FAME - CUSTOM CURATED HOME STYLE GOAN CUISINE Find yourself in South Goa and wondering where to treat your taste buds to mouthwatering Home Style Goan cuisine? Then Ziggy's by Fame should be on the top of your list. Ziggy's by Fame is a homestyle Goan, Asian and western, mid-sized restaurant situated in Majorda, opposite Alila Diwa Goa that can cater up to 70 guests. Amazing food, perfect ambience, impeccable service and hygiene protocols adhered to will make your visit here a memorable experience indeed! stablished in 2020 when the pandemic had cast a pall of gloom across the country and had shaken the hospitality industry, Ziggy's by Fame managed to run through the pandemic and continued to serve guests providing home deliveries, which was quiet a challenging phase. To know more about their claim that this is the only restaurant that serves the traditional Goan fish thali in the area, the Incredible Goa Team met chef 30 / INCREDIBLE GOA / APRIL 2022
Mahesh Mesta to find out more. “We are here to cater to everyone. We serve both the tourists and local residents,” said Chef Mahesh adding, “we are a multicuisine restaurant so our menu spans from South Indian to North Indian dishes, though I must say our specialty is traditional Goan food. We serve authentic Goan fish thali to our patrons who relish it with gusto, we serve the Vindaloo and Cafreal, in Beef and Pork also.” Mahesh said that they also serve brilliant steaks which is most loved by our guests. “I am a continental cook and I prepare very good steaks,” says Mahesh while stating that they customise dishes for the purpose of taste only. “We stick to the authenticity and tweak the taste and spices as per the guest's requirement. For example, some guests prefer more spicy while others less, so depending on their needs, we do the customisation.” According to Mahesh they
have huge demand for the Goan cuisine compared to others. “Guests come from various parts of the country and world and they always want to check out the Goan dishes and our fish thali is very popular amongst the rest,” he said, adding that they currently serve prawns thali and kingfish thali. “In prawns thali we serve three types of prawns: rava fried prawns, prawns caldin and prawns peri peri. We also serve two types of rice depending on the taste and demand of the guests- we serve the basmati or local boiled (brown) rice in the plate. The kingfish thali comes with prawn curry and kingfish fry. The thali also has kishmur, foogath, shellfish of the day, fish, dal waran, sol kadi, papad, pickle, kuchumbar salad and the sweet of the day. Chef Mahesh tells us why they chose to serve thalis. “There are many restaurants near Ziggy's by Fame but none of them serve the thali and that gave us the idea to serve this,
and it was a quick success. There are a couple of five- star properties nearby and their guests come down to taste the Goan thali at our restaurant,” said Mahesh adding that they are getting very good volume of orders for the thali. “Besides the thali we have regular customers for the a-la-Carte menu and continental food.” Chef Mahesh who joined recently at ZBF said that the demand post Covid is growing gradually and soon they will achieve the pre-covid mark in the coming days. “I believe it is our responsibility to take care of hygiene and food safety. We have different set of cooks for each cuisine here at Ziggy's by Fame,” said Chef Mahesh. ZBF serves all types of Goan dishes, and their thali is their specialty. According to Chef Mahesh, the thali is made on the arrival of guests and they do not pre-cook the same and keep it. “When the guest arrives, only then do we start the preparations for the thali,” he said. They also serve www.incrediblegoa.org

By Rajesh Ghadge
THE LEGENDARY GOAN FOOTBALLER WHO WON THE ARJUNA AWARD There are many star football players in Goa but the name of Brahmanand Shankhwalkar will go down in history as one of the pioneers Goa's Football fraternity. Mr Brahmanand's story is filled with lots of struggle and commitments, and the pursuit of excellence. Mr Brahmanand comes from a background of football; his father and brothers were into football full time and all of them were star players of their time. “Goa synonyms with football: this is the only sports that was present in Goa in the past,” said Mr Brahmanand adding, from the time he came into his senses he has seen football around him. “My elder brothers were into athletics: not in 100 or 200 meters running but 5000 and 10000 meters and they were also playing football.” Mr Brahmanand is the youngest in the family after 7 brothers and 3 sisters. “When I was very young and when my brothers used to come back from the practice, I was still in 34 / INCREDIBLE GOA / APRIL 2022
bed taking nap, but could hear the sound of the football around me. The ball always attracted me and when everyone would go to work the ball was always there on the balcao (balcony) of our ancestral house at Taleigao. I used to go and play with it, kick it, bounce it. I don't know what I was doing but that fascination had always caught my imagination and as I started growing I gained more knowledge about the game called football,” he added. The Beginning of Journey into Football Mr Brahmanand relays that it all started with his father taking him to football practice at Caranzalem Football stadium. “I was hardly 6 years old when my father started taking me along with him for the football practice at Caranzalem Stadium. He was one of the finest goalkeepers in the team that he was playing for. I had heard from others that all the fame and
fortune that my father had was due to football. He was the star player of his team and was very skilled in his role,” said Mr Brahmanand adding that, his father's achievements in football is marvellous and he went to become the president of Goa Football Association at the age of 70. “Goa was not liberated then, he used to take me with to all his games and that developed sort of interest in me to become a goalkeeper. I used to see the goalkeeper flying in the air to catch the ball and then fall down on the ground with the ball and this started fascinating me and by the time I was 8 years old, I started playing football. I don't know what I was doing, just running around with the football, but I remember that I enjoyed the every moment of it.” Mr Brahmanand started playing boys who were 10 to 12 years old and he would just run around and enjoy the game. “I don't know what I was doing and my elder brother
legendary household name and famous in the Goan sports arena who had set a trend in the football fraternity of Goa by achieving milestones that no other player has ever reached.
”
was very good,” the said adding that after the liberation of Goa one day there was a football match. “The Portuguese had left Goa and went back to the Portugal. I was in 4th Standard, and when the opportunity of playing with the big boys came to me, I stood at the front of the line, paddy had still not dried, the goal post was set with two stones and my elder brother who used to be the goalkeeper had a swollen toe so he told me to play in goal, and when we won the match 2-0, I had a completely different feeling inside me- it is indescribable butit gave me a sense of accomplishment, and the journey that started that day continued till date.” Beginning of Training Since Mr Brahmanand knew that he will be making football his career, the next step was getting good training under a trained coach and mentor and that is time when he met Dr Pinto from Taleigao who was the only doctor in that village www.incrediblegoa.org
TREND SETTERS then and besides being a doctor he was also the finest football coach in Goa. “He was one of the finest football coaches and he was also involved in other sports activities, such as bull-fights. He saw something in me,” said Mr Brahmanand adding, he used to go and stand at the goal post the moment senior players left, “Dr Pinto saw me playing and he spotted my talent, he asked others, 'Who is this boy?' Soon after I finished my game, he told me that I have a future as a goalkeeper and he started teaching me football techniques. After that, every Sunday I would go and get goalkeeping lessons from him. He shared his knowledge with me through football magazines and he used to come, leaving his patients, to teach me.” The Opportunity Slowly, Dr Pinto started taking Brahmanand out of Taleigao, in his car to Vasco, trying to show him different games, in a pursuit to teach him more techniques. “Then the journey started. I began playing interward tournaments, and there I met Mr Anthony Bothelo, who used to represent the Panvel Club. During that time, Goa's first CM, Bhausaheb Bandodkar, was funding the Panvel football club run by Bothelo. He saw my game and spotted the talent in me, and I must say that was the turning point in my life,” said
www.incrediblegoa.org
Brahmanand adding, soon he got the opportunity to become the goalkeeper for the Panvel Te a m . “ T h e r e i s a v e r y interesting story that I would like to share with you here. I was in SSC then, and Mr Bohtelo told my brother to send him one experienced goalkeeper from Taleigao. My brother came to me and told me to go for goalkeeping and that Panvel is playing with the Saligao team. He said they are searching for a goalkeeper. I had no shoes so he told me take his shoes, and when I went in front of Bothelo, he asked me 'where is the goalkeeper?' and I said it's me. When I said that, I could see the sarcastic smile across the faces of the players around. He took me to Saligao, but to our surprise the goalkeeper who was not supposed to come, was there. He told me to go in the second half and I readily agreed and after the match, he came to me and asked if I am ready to join the Panvelkar Club and to check that I had not signed any contract with anybody else. Then he took me to Fr Chico, another great footballer and mentor, who saw me and asked my father's name then he told Bothelo to sign me up immediately saying 'He is the goalkeeper of the future' Next morning Bothelo came to his school and told him to sign on the form, “I said I have already signed up with
the Taleigao club, he said since my card is not yet done, I can sign for the Panvel Club. I instantly agreed to it, and by afternoon my card was ready,” said Brahmanand adding that at that time he was just 15. “Soon after joining the Panvel Club (old Goa) I faced my first match with Goa Shipyard, who had a stalwart players in their team. When I went to the goal post, I heard people whispering, why has Panvel club brought this skinny boy? I decided to prove myself and the match ended in a 6-3 victory for Panvel and from there it was no looking back.” The Panvel club kept playing and beating all the teams until they come in front of Salgaoncars. They had the best of the players in their team. “I was not sure how I was going to face them,” he said adding, he decided to face this challenge and prove himself, “I went through the struggle and blocked all the strikes and towards the end of the match, I grabbed the last strike without gloves and there was a feeling inside me as if I had won the cup. That match was another turning point in my life which reinstated my confidence. I played almost 4 years for the Panvel Club, till the age of 19 and then I moved to Salgaonkars. In the middle, I also played for the Dempos. There was an opportunity of practicing with the Dempos when the Panvel club was not functioning for some time.” According to Brahmanand, Dempo had a better
infrastructure and was more disciplined compared to others. I was about to join the Dempos when two of my mentors persuaded me to remain with the Panvel Club so I completed 4 years with them.” B r a h m a n a n d continued playing for Salgaocar after that and never looked back. “My father was very happy that Salgaocars called me. I stayed there for almost 17 years, played across the country for Salgaoncars and all my achievements that I have done till date was on their platform. While playing at Patna for the Asian Games, I broke my arm. It was a multiple fracture, but soon I returned back and appeared for the Asian Games and all this happen while I was with Salgaocars,” he said. Mr Brahmanand has many trophies and medals which he earned during the 11 long years while playing for India. “I received the state award in 1977, Player of the Decade award while with Salgaocars and later on I joined Churchill brothers. I then worked for the Sports Authority of Goa and then I received the Arjuna Award in year 1998, which is one of the highest awards in the sports arena. Soon I was promoted to the post of Director of Sports (Coaching Cell) and in year 1995 I retired from football,” he said.

Gautami Hede “Bambolkar comes
By Rajesh Ghadge
TRAINING AND DEDICATION IS KEY TO SUCCESS IN MUSIC To d a y , s h e ' s a c h i e v e d a milestone where she can proudly say that with her innate talent she's become a winner but the journey to this stage was not easy at all and she had to face lots of hurdles in her way. She did not give up and kept on walking along the path she chose. I am going to tell you this interesting story of Gautami Hede (Bambolkar), from the small town of Ponda and how she fulfilled her dreams. Gautami tells how her parents loved music a lot but they could not make a career out of it which is what managed to do. “Today I am doing this because of them and they are supporting me on my journey,” said Gautami, recollecting that when she was very young, she went to learn dance. “My parents encouraged me to learn dancing, but soon I realised that it was not my cup of tea. I used to always think 'why I am not succeeding in dance' and later on I came to know that 36 / INCREDIBLE GOA / APRIL 2022
singing was my hidden talent and I was made for that. When I was in 6th Standard, one of my class teachers spotted the singing talent in me and she called my parents and told them to put me into a singing class instead.” The Training In the case of Gautami, it was her teacher who saw her hidden talent in her and she suggested to her parents to enroll her for vocal classical training. “She also introduced me to my Guru, Pandit Ramrao Nayak Ji. At the age of ten I started learning Indian Classical music from him,” said Gautami, adding that from there her musical journey started. Gautami started participating in various competitions in Goa. “When I was 12, I had an opportunity to participate in a singing competition where I got third place but it was quite an opportunity for me that in my first attempt I managed to win a prize,” said Gautami adding
that it gave her the boost that she needed. “It was a turning point and in the next competition I managed to secure the first place for the Goan Idol title in year 2010 and after that there was no looking back: I achieved first prize in every competition.” The Foundation Gautami says that classical training is the foundation of every singer and it is very important. “Once you are trained classically, you can sing in any form. For me, it helped in polishing my voice and I learned all the technics under the guidance of my Guru. He taught me how to sing and how to feel the music,” said Gautami adding that she is still learning classical music. “I have just completed my 'Visharada,' it means a degree in the Music, and now I am doing my Alankar, which means postgraduation in the music.” The Musical Journey Gautami is a trained classical singer and whilst she does not
from a musical background, is married into an artistic family and she is leading her life into the musical world advancing towards becoming a playback singer for the Indian film industry.

perform with orchestras, she does opt for private programs such as 'Baithaks' which means performing in front of selected people of society. “The Baithaks are based on semi classical songs or Marathi Sugam Sangeet,” she said adding that she is not into the commercial singing. “ I perform for the people who like to listen to me, for me this is more like a passion than the profession.” After securing the first prize at Goan Idol, a new musical journey started for Gautami. “After my victory at Goan Idol, I had an opportunity and I was introduced to the film industry in Goa,” said Gautami adding that there is a very interesting story how she got her first break in a Goan film. “There was a competition called 'Singing Legend' and the chief guest of this program was the producer of the film, Mr Nilesh Nivalkar, and he made an announcement that the winners of that competition www.incrediblegoa.org

Gautami was the only female singer in that movie and sung one song that was especially composed for her. “My song was nominated for the awards n 2015 at the 7th Goa state film festival organised by the Department of Information and Publicity & Entertainment Society of Goa,” she added. Following the success of her first movie, Gautami started getting offers from other producers. “I sung in two more films, namely, 'Sooring' and 'Mogan Tujya' I also got the opportunity to sing in many Konkani and Marathi albums. Till date, I think I have done playback singing for more than 10 albums. Gautami was also selected among the top 10 contestants among 2 lakhs of participants across India for Benadryl Big Golden Voice by 92.7 Big FM by Sonu Nigam. “It all started with sending an audio clip on WhatsApp and I was really lucky to get selected amongst top 10 in India. I was the only participant from Goa. Here I had an opportunity to meet Sonu Nigam and sing with him. It was like a dream come true for me,” said Gautami. Supportive Family “I lived in a nuclear family with my parents and after marriage I went into a joint family,” said Gautami adding that she always wanted to live in a joint family. “I love people around me, and my in-laws are very supportive, they always encourage me, they attend my programmes and my husband is always there with me everywhere I go for the various programmes. Dream to Become Playback
Singer Gautami has a dream to become a playback singer. “I know that the journey in not easy, there are lots of hurdles to reach there but I have a dream of becoming the playback singer one day,” said Gautami adding, she had participated in many reality shows, but due to some reason she did not get selected. “It's not that I did not do well, in fact I have done better than some of the participants, but still I did not get a chance to enter into the competition for some reason that I do not know.” Gautami is a very determined person and she did not get discouraged when she was rejected by reality shows for whatever reasons. “I have decided to start my Youtube channel and I am getting a very good response from my audience and followers. One of my songs on Lord Damodar has become very popular in Goa and across the country. There is a very interesting story behind
this: when the song went viral on various WhatsApp groups and other social media platforms, people were not aware the name of singer, everybody was eager to know who sung this song and one day it came to me and someone was enquiring on the group 'Who is the singer?' When I downloaded the song, I realised that it was my song. There are many people who have it as a ringtone for which I feel immense pride.” Gautami has a good fan following and it's like a small family for her. “They are like my 'Rasik Prekshak' (fan followers) who wait for my new release of songs and that gives me a lot of joy and a sense of achievement,” she said adding that she is now having a plan to post at least one new song every week on the various social media platforms. This journey will continue until she achieves her dream to become a playback singer.

Shirodkar “Arpita is a software
By Incredible Goa Team
SURRENDER YOURSELF TO LEARN THE ART FORM AND NEVER DOUBT YOURSELF She has done her primary and secondary education in Panaji. She had completed her Indian Classical Dance Visharad from Gandarva Mahavidyalaya and Parangat from the Kala Academy, Goa. Aalthough Arpita's schooling was completed in Panaji, she spent most of her childhood at Ecoxim. “I started my schooling at Mary Immaculate Girls High school and completed my 12th from Mushtifund Higher secondary school Goa. I have done my Bachelors of Engineering (BE) in the field of electronics and telecommunication (ETC) from GEC Farmagudi Goa and my Masters of Arts (MA) in kathak from Bharatiya Vidyapeeth, Pune. Apart from this I have also completed my Kathak Visharad from G a n d a r v a f r o m Mahavidyalaya and Parangat from the Kala Academy in Goa,” she said. Arpita has been very fond of dancing right from a young age. “I used to 38 / INCREDIBLE GOA / APRIL 2022
participate in many dance competitions and have won many prizes,” she said adding that she was always fascinated by Indian classical dance forms and thus her parents decided to enroll her in the Indian classical dance class. “I started my dance journey when I was just 6 years old. Initially, in Bharatnatyam but later on at the age of 8, I joined Kala Academy for kathak classes as we shifted to Panjim,” said Arpita. Arpita had spent countless years learning not just the physical movements but also the meaning behind the movements that define the dance style. “I never thought that I would be the first one to complete the Parangat diploma course in Kathak Dance Form at the age of 12 from Kala Academy,” she said adding that in 2008, she won first place in the All Goa classical dance competition held by Goa Art and Culture. “Being a science student, I tried to juggle between my dance and studies but never
took a break from the dance class and still managed get 91% in her 10th. I was focused on both academics and dance since I really loved kathak. My teachers in Kala Academy Smt Seema Khedekar and Smt Va r a d a P h a d k e B e d e k a r taught me the foundations of kathak. It's from there I decided that I wanted a career in this field.” Arpita's parents have always supported her at every stage because of which she could continue learning. “When I relocated to Pune after my BE for a placement at Wipro, I knew this was my calling: to learn from my mentor Guru Shama Bhate ji at Nadroop, Pune. I used to go at weekends for my classes and got a very new perspective about kathak and dance as a whole and that's when I also did my Masters. To me, kathak is not just a dance form, it's a way of self-expression and provides me with a space to let go off my worries. I'm my most confident when I dance
engineer by profession and a trained Classical Indian Dancer who teaches this to Kathak enthusiasts through the online medium. Arpita belongs to the beautiful village of Ekoxim, situated near Aldona.
”
and that keeps me motivated,” she said. Just like every budding artist, Arpita had to also face challenges in her journey towards her passion. Arpita told us that when she was in the college, her love for this dance form grew but at the same time her confidence leaves started shaking due to the craze of western dance form growing in society. “I could not openly boast about my dance form thinking that my colleagues may not appreciate it because they were all into western dance. According to me Kathak was not recognised as a form of dance by the masses and that's why I even hesitated to participate in any college events until my final year when I thought that I should stop being hesitant and start being confident. After surrounding myself with other dancers like me, especially in Pune I found the pride in my dance and I'm grateful of how far I have come as a dancer,” she said. www.incrediblegoa.org
YOUNG GOA Arpita travelled to perform on many stages and shows in and even out of Goa. “I have performed in all dance festivals in Goa and many out of Goa, to name a few, Solapur Sidhivinayak temple festival in 2020, group choreography by Guru Shama Bhate, Anubhuti 2020 Pune, Mardol dance festival 2017, Aura dance festival in Aurangabad 2017, Nakshatra Utsav 2016 organised by Kala Academy, won the first place at youth festival state level in 2019 and many more,” she said. Arpita has a plan of opening her own dance school in Goa. “I have a plan of opening a dance studio in Goa in the near future where I will train the Classical Dance enthusiasts in the Kathak dance Form. I also want to create the awareness of this dance form amongst people so that no one will say that this dance form is inferior to western dance forms. This

form not only has rhythm, but many other aspects are involved. And I wish to promote the rich cultural heritage of Indian art,” she said. Arpita feels that when
anyone wants to start learning this dance form, he or she should go in to it with an open mind and never under estimate the Indian Classical dance forms. “You must learn with an open mind and never underestimate the power of
learning anything new. Keep trying out new ways and be creative. Don't lose hope if you are choosing performance as a career as the opportunities will definitely follow. Also, when you are learning from a teacher, surrender yourself to

Joshi, a “ Rajesh serial entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience in the business had started 6 startups during the time when the concept itself was in a nascent stage. He moved to Goa as a project consultant for the Government of Goa as a part of the startup promotion cell in the state.
By Rajesh Ghadge
”
Later on he was appointed as CEO of the Atal Incubation Centre (AICGIM) at Goa Institute of Management formed under the Atal Innovation Mission, Niti Agog of Government of India in year 2021 and since then he has helped hundred of startups to achieve their dreams by providing them with the platform and funding. According to Rajesh, he could have continued adding to his list of his start ups but while working for the government of India he found his calling, “I decided to help other startups to scale up as it was no longer about fulfilling your own dreams but helping others achieve theirs and I really thank the GIM (Goa Institute of Management), who hired me and gave me an opportunity to do this,” said Rajesh adding that he has helped more than 100 startups with the incubation programs at AICGIM. “One of them I would like to name here is, Minco, started by Sanket from Sakhalim Goa that has 40 / INCREDIBLE GOA / APRIL 2022
managed to raise 2 million dollars.” R a j e s h a l s o mentioned that they had started the virtual incubation during the Covid and it continues to operate till date. “Besides this we have also added something called On Demand Incubation, under which the startups don’t have to sign up the contract with AICGIM and they are free to incubate elsewhere, and at the same time they can come to us for any kind of help when they face an issue, this way we are trying to be a Startup Buddy rather than incubation as such,” he added. Increase Customer Base There are many issues faced by startups in India and in Goa, a significant one being a paucity of funds. When asked, Rajesh admits that this is a huge problem in the country and a main reason being the rate of interest which is comparatively higher than the other developed countries. “It is not right to compare the western economy
with that of India since the rates of interest there is much lower compared to India,” said Rajesh adding that rate of interest in other countries is around 2 to 3 percent while in India it is nearly 6 to 10 percent. “The investor in the west does not have any choice but to invest into the startups and new ventures and new ideas but in India that is not the case. My advice to the startups in India is to generate money through the customers rather than from investors. According to me although India while having a higher rate of interest also has a larger marketplace, and stronger customer base compared to other developed countries. Many startups make this mistake by looking for the investors, instead they should be widening their customer base and the Investors will come automatically to them.” Goa is a Great Place to Innovate Goa is a great place to live and work and thus many start-ups come down to Goa but once they get initial funding and
support they move out of the state. When I asked Rajesh about the same he said that Goa is a great place to start and innovate. “Goa is a place where startups can conceive and grow, and according to me there is no other place in India like Goa. When the startups start their innovation and product tests, Goa is a great market for the product market fit, the reason behind this is, Goa has everything right from industries to the agriculture, from marine to shipping and most important is the Tourism and health care and Goa is a mix of all three sections of the society, rich, middle and lower middle class and what the innovators need is the quality of life and the work life balance which Goa has in abundance and that is what makes Goa a perfect place for the startup.” According to Rajesh, start-ups moving out of the state is for two reasons. “First is the market expansion which is not possible in Goa due to its small population and second is
www.incrediblegoa.org
STARTUP GOA due to the lack of technology and talent in the state of Goa. When the requirements of development grows from the couple of engineers to the 100 or 500 engineers, Goa is not the right place and that is the reason the startups move out of Goa,” said Rajesh adding that there is a new era of innovation is coming, called web 3 or blockchain, where the customers base does not become the geographical hurdle and according to me these types of companies will thrive in Goa soon. These new generation startups will be working for the world not alone India. Besides that these web 3 startups won’t need more manpower to do the coding they can work from garages or living rooms and do accomplish the tasks.” The Grapes are Sour According to Rajesh it is not the lack of infrastructure or lack of manpower that is responsible for the startups to move out of the state. “It is many a times due to the story where we call it the grapes are sour for the entrepreneurs, there are many Goan start-ups like Mrinq Te c h n o l o g y a n d G e n o r a Infotech, that has excelled in their ventures and made Goa proud. These startups have also benefited with the Goa Startup Policies,” said Rajesh adding that Goa state government has distributed more than 1.5 crore rupees since the inception of the Goa Startup Policy. “If you compare the population of the state and the startup money that has been disbursed by government, I can bet that Goa will be in top 5 across different states in the country.” Rajesh believes that the entrepreneurs often shy away from the policy due to lack of documents . “They feel reluctant since they have to submit certain documents and most of them don’t have them in order. I have worked with the
www.incrediblegoa.org
government of Maharashtra, Government of Rajasthan and now Government of Goa and I have seen the people reluctant and ask why the documents are required but what they don’t understand is, it is the part of the process,” said Rajesh adding, AICGIM, FIIRE, CIBA and BITS PILANI together have received the approval of 10 crore rupees to give it to startups in Goa. “Funds are distributed and many have already benefited out of it but there are some startups who have not applied properly or not done the due diligence and they keep receiving mails asking for the more documents which is the part of the process.” The Infrastructure and Topography of Goa According to Rajesh, there is an issue as far as the infrastructure is concerned but it is not due to the lack of any attempt from the Government side but it is due to the existing topography of the place. “When I moved to Goa, initially I also got frustrated due to the constant power failure and lack to Internet services but soon I realized that this has nothing to do with the efficiency of the state government but it is due to the topography of the region which is out of the scope of any technical expertise. Goa has very unique, topography and the population is also spread across the larger areas making it difficult to create sustainable infrastructure. According to me sometimes the downtime is good cause we are in the place like Goa to not to constantly work and sometimes we need that break to enjoy the atmosphere.” Another thing that Rajesh mentions is about the effects of over development. “If you look at the metros like Mumbai and Bangalore that has underground cabling and 24 hours of Electricity and
Internet, but does not have the greenery, but here in Goa it's different, this place is not having infrastructure like metros but it has a beautiful environment,” he added. The Journey Has Just Begun According to Rajesh the startup revolution has just started in Goa and compared to the other states it is also at a very initial stage. “The startup policy was introduced in 2017 which is hardly a couple of years. Another thing, lot of people are not aware that Goa is the only state in country that has come with two successive startup policies. The attempt has already been made and it will take some time for things to settle down. There is need of becoming the part of eco system. According to me Goa is advancing in the right direction and I will urge to the startups to talk with the other startups who has been benefited, they can learn from each other and at the same time the startups who have received the grants from the government should talk about the same in the public so that it benefits others.” T h e A I C G I M according to Rajesh is a Centre Agnostic Incubator. “Which means we don’t prefer any particular sector but having said that we realized that Goa has an inherent advantage, like
greenery, Environment, kind of people who visit Goa and looking at that we have launched few initiatives and one of them dealing with the food part called Fierce Kitchen, dedicated support system for the food-preneurs, and second is the Hub-CE to support the startups who are looking to mitigate the climate crises and third is we are trying to build the Web 3 port in Goa,” said Rajesh adding that this will help in innovating the new blockchain Web 3, NFT and Crypto Industry. “The reason we are calling it port is they will not be based here, they will be entrepreneur tourists, they will come to Goa, they will innovate and create something here. We are looking forward to do something in this sector which is a new industry and it will save the brain-drain which is happening due to the migration of the Indian talents to other countries. I believe that Goans who are innovating should not move out of Goa, we will provide them with the platform and environment that will help them innovate and we will provide them with the ecosystem and we will also be the bridge between the Startup and government.”

The chief guest for the event Mr Nitin Kunkolienkar, President, Manufacturer's 44 / INCREDIBLE GOA / APRIL 2022
Association of Information Technology in his s p e e c h emphasized on the urgent need to align India's export strategy on a portled growth which has been success story in many countries across the globe. He mentioned that the Goan port is not capable of handling the cargo needs and that it should not be looked upon as the one to serve the future needs of the industry rather the state should work on utilizing other all its strengths and creating a Dry port or Container Freight Station (CFS). Mr Ralph de Sousa, President, GCCI in his address mentioned that Goa is
positioned in a very strategic position in terms of logistical connectivity and availability of ports via sea, air or rail infrastructure required for exports. Sharing excerpts from the Eport preparedness survey report 2020 made by NITI aayog, he said that Goa's index of 40.94 is just below 45.80 of Delhi which suggests the presence of a conducive environment for overall exports. Mr Mahesh Desai, Chairman, EEPC India in his speech stressed on the point of building a clear vision & roadmap for our future, discovering new possibilities and exploring new technological opportunities. He highlighted that the contribution of the state placing it at the 18th position in the country and that its

The "V Frame": The "V Frame", also known as the "Cone Shape" lady has shoulders that are two or more inches wider than her hips. She usually has large bust, narrow hips, and thin legs. Balance needs to be met by bringing the lower body up to speed with the upper body. THE WORKOUT Cardio - The stepper is a good form of cardio to burn calories and add thickness to the legs. The treadmill on an incline is also suitable, but this body type is best to avoid the elliptical machine, as it will lean the legs up too much. Resistance Training - To increase

leg size, concentrate on quality thigh training. Basic power movements should compose the bulk of your leg exercises, such as Squats, Leg Presses and Stiff Deadlifts. Shaping exercises such as Leg Extensions and Lunges are good finishers. Use moderate to heavy poundage and keep the repetitions on the lower end, in the 8-10 range. The "H Frame": The "H Frame" lady has an athletic build, but has a large waist and shoulders, and lacks symmetry. This body shape is squared off and blocky. Those who posses the "H Frame" really need to direct attention to their symmetry by minimizing the waist. THE WORKOUT Cardio - Cardio choices should be focused on trimming the upper body and bringing out the symmetry. Such cardio tactics should include the treadmill on an incline and the stepper. Resistance Training - Proper lower body training is needed for balance to bring it up to par with the wide shoulders. Concentrate on Squats, Leg Press and Stiff Dead lifts as the bulk of your training, and use the Leg Extension and Lunges as finishers. Use moderate to heavy poundage in the 8-10 repetition range. The "Ruler”: The "Ruler" body shape's measurements of the chest, waist, and hips are fairly equal. This lady is lean, has a high metabolism, and doesn't gain weight very easily. THE WORKOUT Cardio - Cardio should be kept to a minimum, preferably the stepper, and more focus should go on the resistance training. Resistance Training - Training should be intense and brief. Each muscle group should be trained once weekly. The focus should go
into intensity and building symmetry through proper shoulder, back, and leg training. Use heavy compound movements such as Bench Presses, Shoulder Presses, Lat Pull downs, Squats, etc. You want to put emphasis on building muscle, therefore keep the repetitions in the 8-10 repetition range. The "8 Frame": The "8 Frame", also known as the "Hourglass", is genetically gifted. They are the proper height and weight for their body. Their bust and hips are the same size, with the waist being 10 inches smaller… said to be the perfect figure from modeling experts. This lady's gains are evenly distributed, as well as fat loss. THE WORKOUT Cardio - Cardio should be balanced with training. Any cardio technique is fine, and keeping a variety is best. Resistance Training - This is the ultimate body frame. A balanced training program with a variety of exercises works well. Many find changing the workout program every 6-8 weeks productive, and an assortment of repetition ranges keeps the body off guard. The "Oval Frame": The "Oval Frame", also known as the "apple" is average height or shorter, large busted, has thin legs and gains weight in the midsection. THE WORKOUT Cardio - Routine cardio, such as the treadmill on an incline or the stepper, are necessary to generate overall weight loss. The elliptical machine should be avoided as it leans out the legs too much. Resistance Training - focus on the legs to create balance with the upper body. Include more Squats, Leg Presses, and Stiff leg Dead lifts to bring the lower body up to speed with the upper body. Maintain repetitions in the 8-10 range for balance. Now you have first-rate information on how to train for your personal body shape. What are you waiting for? Go take
