China's Conmet-Xin Foundry Relies on Weijing Degating Hammer

中国康迈信铸造厂信赖苏州微晶气冲锤 WE ARE CURIOUS WHY THIS IS SO? After new year holiday, 2 new sets Weijin Degating Hammer started running at Shandong ConMet-Xin foundry. ConMet-Xin foundry is controlled by ConMet (US company) with 70% of shares, and ShangDong HaoXing Group with 30% shares. ConMet-Xin mainly produce components for heavy duty truck, such as wheel hubs, brake drums. It is not the first time for Weijing to provide pneumatic hammer to ConMet-Xin foundry. First 4 sets hammer were sent in 2019, then 2 sets repeatedly purchased in 2021, plus this time 2 set, now there are 8 sets Weijing Impact Hammer in total at ConMet-Xin foundry. WEIJING is proud for the multi-choosing of ConMet-Xin foundry. In fact, Weijing hammer was not the first pneumatic hammer ConMet-Xin selected at beginning. ConMet-Xin found Weijing hammer at Metal China 2019 exhibition and purchased 4 sets after a few months background checking. After two years operating, ConMet-Xin was satisfied with Weijing hammer's performance since no any issues happened in past years and quite easy to operate. Then ConMet-Xin foundry decided to purchase 2 sets Weijing hammer to replace the old ones. It is not only foundry which experienced this impression on Weijing degating hammer's quality, there many foundries who have Weijing impacting hammer, because meanwhile the price is also absolutely gratifying and competitive. Weijing can provide a wide range of 10 models degating hammer. It covers from 500 Joules to 28,000 Joules at 6 bars air pressure. 3D Printing Drives Diesel Development at Weichai

3D 打印技术助力潍柴动力 Founded as one of China's first diesel engine factories, Weichai Power continues to drive engine technology forward. The company emphasizes efficiency, both in its products and in its own processes as part of its quest for ever more reliable and greener engines. To accelerate the research and development of their engines, Weichai employs 3D printing at its state-of-theart digital moulding center. They’re not printing metal components, rather accurate moulds to cast the final components for diesel engines using sand binder-jetting. High-quality, complex molds and cores are bonded together in layers of sand and delivered to the foundry with the fast. The cores are produced on-demand without waiting for traditional tooling to be made. Conventional tooling requires several months of lead time, making the implementation of ExOne sand 3D printing technology game-changing. Weichai installed its first ExOne S-Max sand 3D printer in its digital moulding center in 2017. The success of adopting digital casting increased demand and two additional S-Max systems were added in 2019. The three machines offer Weichai flexible production at variable quantities, high productivity and the ability to customize with fewer design limitations. ExOne sand 3D printers create complex sand cores and molds directly from 3D CAD data, allowing the company to produce castings for a versatile range of applications– including blocks, heads and gearbox chambers. “The leading technology of ExOne’s sand printers helps us produce prototype cast components in advance to validate the process and the product. It has accelerated the improvement of our new engine technologies,” said Dr. Yucheng Sun, Deputy Dean of Technology and Artisan Research Institute at Weichai Power Co., Ltd. ■

Gargi Ha Funds Large Water Filtration Plant at Site in India

欧区爱加尔吉工厂资助印度大型水处理厂 HA's Indian subsidiary, Gargi HA, has once again made a strong commitment to the people in the region of the Indian site, Khopoli: As part of a new community project, Gargi HA has financed a water filtration plant, which was recently started up. With initiatives such as the opening of a skin or eye health centre, Gargi HA has been supporting the people at the Khopoli site for several years. In addition to the company's social commitment, regular sustainability initiatives are also on the agenda, such as joint tree planting activities. The latest project of Gargi HA together with the Lions Club Chembur concerns the installation of a water filtration plant, which now supplies around 2000 people in the region around the location of the Indian HA subsidiary with fresh drinking water. Inaugurated by Lions Club member Vinod Kapur, the filter plant was ceremonially put into operation in Atkargaon, Khopoli, Maharashtra on 30 January. Previously, the villagers received their water from an elevated tank that was sourced from a nearby lake. The water had to be treated at great expense before it could be consumed. The new powerful plant, financed by Gargi HA, filters water quickly and effectively for all households in the region. The commitment is not only a valuable initiative for the employees of Gargi HA, but also for all people in the region of Khopoli. ■

Since 2001, Europe has adjusted its own magnesium production as a result of the Magnesium price advantage of China. Lizhong to Invest a 600million Auto Wheel Base

Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry Acquires Minnesota Manufacturer

Advanced Casting Research Center Opens New Metal Processing Facility

Researchers, professors, and leading metallurgists from around the country gathered for the grand opening event. “After more than a year of remote learning, students really appreciate hands on experience,” said ACRC Board of Directors Chair Randy Beals of MAGNA. “The new ACRC lab at UCI allows the undergrad students to become more engaged, which makes it easier to understand the challenging theories and concepts behind materials science. It also equips ACRC researchers with the state-of-the-art tools to be successful in their cutting-edge casting research programs and in their professional lives after school.” ACRC, which relocated to UCI in 2020, is one of the largest industry-university consortia in North America dedicated to collaborative research in metal processing and manufacturing. Grede’s e-mobility emphasis begins with the formation of an e-mobility sales director position, which the company asserted will strengthen its concentration on and penetration into the electrification market, while allowing Grede to leverage existing resources for traditional brands. Additionally, Grede is positioned to expand its casting solutions for the new EV market, including through production of key products such as knuckles, control arms, differential cases, covers, and housings. The company has promoted three of its staff to support its current customer base as they transition into the electric vehicle market while cultivating new business with emerging electrification companies. Christopher Connors has been named director of e-mobility, tasked with helping Grede align electric powertrain technologies with the goals of its clients. He will play a key role in positioning Grede to capture an uptick in EV demand across the automotive and industrial sectors. Justin Milus has been promoted to director of sales– commercial vehicles. In his new role, he will focus on building and maintaining strong, long-lasting relationships with Grede’s customers while partnering with them to better understand their business objectives and needs. Jefferey Brodnik is now Grede’s senior account manager– automotive, serving as a trusted point of contact for automotive customers, analyzing their businesses to identify strengths, weaknesses and new opportunities while working to generate new business. ■

Farrar Invests in Upgrades

法拉集团的升级改造投资计划 AFS Corporate Member Farrar Corporation will be installing a new molding line this spring to increase capacity and improve efficiency at its ductile iron sand casting operation in Norwich, Kansas. The $3.7 million investment also includes replacing the General Kinematics Vibradrum with a GK media drum. The new molding line is the FBO-IIIS 20 x 24 from Robert Sinto Corporation and will provide the foundry a faster mold cycle, deeper draw, and reduced maintenance costs. The investment is part of a phased approach to make more castings with tighter quality and process controls. In 2020, Farrar installed a new 2500KW Inductotherm coreless induction furnace to replace its 1850 KW furnace, which added about 1 ton/hour melt capacity. This past year, the company also purchased two DMG-Mori NTX 5-axis CNC machining centers for its machine shop in Norwich. Future plans for the company include replacing additional aging molding machines, adding core capacity, and bringing on more CNC machines. ■

Saint-Gobain Pam Canalisation Installs Largest Induction Furnace in Europe

圣戈班穆松桥公司安装欧洲最大的感应电炉 An exciting project for ABP Induction in France: This is where Saint-Gobain PAM Canalisation is installing the largest induction furnace in Europe. The French group's goal is CO2 emission-free production. ABP Induction will install an IFM 9 induction melting furnace with a capacity of 30 tons. Commissioning is scheduled for May 2022, with production to begin on 1 June 2022. In addition, Saint-Gobain has developed a recycling service where 100 percent of the casting waste can be reprocessed. Long-time ABP customer Saint-Gobain has already succeeded in a number of ambitious initiatives: the major recirculation project (circulation of industrial water, reducing consumption by twothirds), gas recovery from the blast furnace (recycled for use in the Pont-à-Mousson plant), the exclusive selection of Ecovadis-labeled raw materials, telescopic technology to reduce the CO2 impact of transport, and the introduction of an energy management system at all sites, to name a few. The investment in a large induction melting furnace is another step towards Saint-Gobain PAM Canalisation's ecological transformation. With the new furnace, production will no longer emit CO2 - this means a reduction in CO2 emissions of up to 10 percent per ton of cast iron produced by Saint-Gobain PAM Canalisation in Europe. Further steps in the circular economy: 100 percent of the pipes marketed by Saint-Gobain PAM Canalisation in Europe are also manufactured in Europe – most of them even in France. Compared to imported pipes from Asia, this reduces CO2 consumption. Moreover, 100 percent of the cast material used by Saint-Gobain PAM Canalisation can be recycled indefinitely without any performance loss. To this end, Saint-Gobain PAM Canalisation has developed a recycling service for old cast iron pipes, avoiding all final waste. The old pipes are transferred to Saint-Gobain PAM Canalisation's plants, where they are broken into pieces before remelting them into new pipes. The furnace that ABP Induction will deliver has a capacity of 18 MW. The challenge for ABP is the confined installation conditions at the customer's site. With a capacity of 120,000 tons of cast iron per year, the new furnace will increase production and allow the company to respond more quickly to customer requests. What's more, this furnace can be shut down and restarted more frequently, which provides greater flexibility in responding to demand. ■

In May 2021, the management of Nissan Motor Cantabria awarded Magaldi a turnkey order for the supply, erection and commissioning of two Superbelt® conveyors, serving the new DISA vertical molding line, which is expected to be fully operational by mid-2022. New Low-Pressure Casting System for the Access Techcenter in Aachen, Germany

Norican Starts Ambitious Net-Zero Journey Under Auspices of Science-Based Targets Initiative

It is the former foundry of the Siemens Group," says Josef Ramthun in the interview. Today, Franken Guss has iron and aluminium castings under one roof. It is also a widely internationalized sector that, thanks to its excellence, has been able to position itself as a preferential partner within the European market and is currently actively moving towards new markets, such as America and Asia. The metal industry has a long history in Spain, having traced the existence of foundries in the northern part of the country back to the XVII century. This has given us some time to excel and to create an industrial ecosystem around the foundry industry which enable us to give full services and cover all the stages in the process of a finished part.

A BRIEF OVERVIEW There is no official census in Spain that can give us accurate statistics about the industry, however; in cooperation with the federation for foundries in Spain, we can give statistics that represent approximately 85% of the tonnage produced in our country. To give a brief overview of what is produced in terms of metalcasting in Spain, we have the 2020 figures, that show us that approximately 1.6 M. tons were casted in total, of which approximately 89% would correspond ferrous parts and the rest to non-ferrous parts, although in terms of number of foundries, around 60 % correspond to ferrous foundries and 40% to non-ferrous foundries.

A HIGLY INTERNATIONALIZED INDUSTRY As shown by the graphic, Spain is the fifth producer of casting parts in Europe, but ranks as number one when it

We believe in FUNDIGEX that, since the creation of our Association in 1984, with the aim to boost the exports of the Spanish Foundry Sector, the companies in our industry have made it their priority to be present on international markets. From Fundigex, we are actively assisting them in all terms possible and above all, we are travelling around the world to make sure that the Spanish Casting Industry is being recognised with terms as Quality and Excellence; a reliable partner in industry. As for now, more than 87% of our exports go to Europe, however; the tendency is to increase sales in overseas countries.

PRIORIY CLIENT SECTORS When it comes to client sectors, around 60% is casted to the automotive industry, although it is true that due to different reasons, such as the global semiconductor shortage or the uncertainty of the automotive future in terms of electrical vs. combustion motors, have accelerated the change in tendencies. This has contributed to the diversification of our foundries.

THE FOUNDRY SECTOR：AN ESENTIAL INDUSTRY Since the pandemic caused by the Covid-19 virus was declared in 2020, the foundry sector not only in Spain, but in the whole of Europe, has had to face a series of very challenging situations, such as increase in energy costs, rise in price and shortage of raw material, increase in the transportation costs. etc. Nonetheless, we are talking about a mature and consolidated industry, one in which tradition is combined with new technologies. Step by step, it is adopting and endorsing the parameters of Intelligent Manufacturing, circular economy and sustainability, not only achieving sales records year after year, but also generating awareness about reducing the impact of its footprint on the environment and improving, therefore to the society in general..■

Abstract Research of the process for making cores was carried out and concludes that shortening the standby time of the core sand (referred to as uncured mixture of sand and binder) can reduce fluctuation in the quality of the sand core. Controlling sand temperature in a reasonable range and raising the temperature at which the catalytic gas is cured can maintain a good initial strength of the sand core at a high speed, which therefore improves the efficiency, in terms of quantity and quality. Based on these conclusions, the layout and functions of the production equipment have been rearranged by developing an integrated core-making unit, known as MICC (Mingzhi Technology Integration Core Centre). Verification within a production setting shows that the new layout effectively improves the measurement controls of standby time, core sand temperature, and catalytic gas temperature. This helps improve the production efficiency and quality substantially. Key words: Core sand, Sand core quality, Core-making process, Core shooting machine, Integrated core-making unit.

1.Introduction The conventional core-making technology utilizing core machines has disadvantages, which include: fixed volume in single batch sand mixing, large fluctuation of storage time, and uncontrolled storage environment. These factors cause the sand core quality to fluctuate and therefore lower the efficiency and effectiveness of production. In previous analysis of the resin material characteristics, it is found that primarily the viscosity coefficient of liquid resin and the degree of spontaneous reaction affect the quality. Furthermore, as the sand shooting nature and law of resin hardening indicate, a good fluidity of core sand guarantees a high quality. Further process research is required to analyse the factors and laws that affect core sand fluidity and core curing, in

1 引言现有传统式制芯单元的工序存在混砂机单批混砂量固定，无法调整、芯砂待用时间波动大、芯砂存储环境不受控等不利因素，导致制芯质量波动大、生产效率低。随着对树脂材料特性的认识，发现液态树脂的粘度系数及自然反应程度是影响砂芯质量的关键因素。进而随着对射砂原理和树脂硬化规律的认识，芯砂良好的流动性是保障高质量砂芯的前提条件。因此，需进一步开展工艺试验研究，分析出影响芯砂流动性和砂芯固化的因素及规律，从而优化制芯装备，提高制芯质量、提升制芯效率。

2 制芯工艺试验研究 2.1. 冷芯制芯工艺 2.1.1 试验仪器、材料与方法试验仪器 : 混砂机、MLWA1 试样机、SAC 锤击式制样机、智能型砂强度机、电子天平；

order to optimize core-making equipment, improve coremaking quality, and enhance efficiency.

2.Research of core-making process

2.1Cold box core-making process 2.1.1.Materials and methods Equipment The equipment used in this paper include a sand mixer, the proprietary MLWA1 sample machine from Suzhou Mingzhi Technology, SAC hammer sampler, strength tester, and electronic balance. Materials The materials used include a cold box resin (phenolic resin and poly-isocyanate), triethylamine and 50/100 recycled silica sand. Methods The cold box resin with the addition set at 0.6% for both components and recycled silica sand are first mixed. The influence of environment temperature and standby time on the fluidity of the core sand is studied. The method refers to the ‘side-hole quality test’ in Casting Manual Volume 4: Modelling Materials (Huang, 2002). The initial strength is tested on the 8-shape sample made by the MLWA1 sample machine. After that, how the core sand temperature and catalytic gas temperature affect the initial strength is analysed. 2.1.2.Content and analysis1.1.1.1. 2.1.2.1Standby time and room temperature As shown in Figure 1, the fluidity of the core sand shows a downward trend as the standby time increases. When the standby time remains constant, the higher the room temperature is, the more rapidly the fluidity of core sand decreases. 2.1.2.2Sand temperature How the sand temperature affects the reaction speed of resin has a ‘10 °C’ rule (Qu & Ji, 2007). That is, with every temperature increase of 10 °C, the reaction speed doubles. As illustrated in Figure 2, in the range of 5~40°C, when the sand temperature is lower than 15 °C, the initial tensile strength is

试验材料 : 冷芯树脂、三乙胺、50/100 再生硅砂。试验方法 : 使用冷芯树脂（单组分加入量 0.65%）和再生硅砂进行混砂，研究芯砂存放环境温度和存放时间对芯砂流动性的影响；其中芯砂流动性测试方法参照《铸造手册第 4 卷 - 造型材料》中的侧孔质量法进行检测 [1]。另外，使用 MLWA1 试样机制 8 字试样，研究砂温和催化气体温度对砂芯初强度的影响。 2.1.2 试验内容与分析 2.1.2.1 芯砂放置时间与环境温度对芯砂流动性的影响从图 1 可以看出，随存放时间的延长，芯砂相对流动性呈下降趋势；而且，在芯砂存放时间相同的情况下，存放环境温度越高，芯砂的相对流动性下降幅度越大。所以，为了避免芯砂的流动性下降而引起砂芯质量波动，应尽可能缩短芯砂待用时间，减小环境温度对芯砂的影响。2.1.1.2 砂温对初抗拉强度的影响砂温对树脂的反应速度影响遵循“10℃”原则，砂温每增加 10℃，将使树脂的反应速度加快 2 倍 [2]。从图 2 可以看出，砂温在 5℃～ 40℃，当砂温≤ 15℃时，树脂反应速度慢，初抗拉强度≤ 0.35MPa；当砂温≥ 20℃时，树脂反应速度快，初抗拉强度≥ 0.47MPa。制芯时，砂芯初抗拉强度须满足砂芯顶芯且不引起砂芯变形的需求，对于形状复杂、薄壁的砂芯，砂温最佳控制在 20℃～ 30℃；但对于形状简单、厚大的砂芯，砂温可控制在 15℃～ 35℃。 2.1.1.3 催化气体温度和吹气时间对初抗拉强度的影响从图 3 可以看出，砂芯的初抗拉强度与催化气体温度和吹气时间有关。催化气体温度 150℃相比 110℃，达到相同的初抗拉强度所需要的吹气时间短，因此，在满足砂芯初抗拉强度的条件下，较高的催化气体温度可以缩短吹气时间，提升制芯效率。

2.1.3 冷芯制芯工艺试验结论通过冷芯制芯工艺试验研究，得出结论为：缩短“芯砂待用时间”，可减少砂芯质量波动；对于形状复杂、薄壁砂芯，控制芯砂待用时间不超过 15min；对于形状简单、厚大砂芯，控制芯砂待用时间不超过 30min；控制“砂温”在合理的范围及提升“催化气体温度”，可快速建立砂芯的初强度并提高制芯效率。对于形状复杂、薄壁的砂芯，砂温最佳控制在 20℃～ 30℃；对于形状简单、厚大的砂芯，砂温可控制在 15℃～ 35℃。 Figure 3 Effect of catalytic gas temperature and blowing time on initial strength of sand core 图３催化气体温度和吹气时间对砂芯初抗拉强度的影响

2.2 无机制芯工艺随着在无机材料的应用经验增加及与不同无机材料供应商的技术人员交流，认为混好的芯砂因与空气接触反应和脱水干燥而导致芯砂结壳 [3]；砂温越高，环境温度越高，

less than 0.35MPa; when the sand temperature is higher than 20 °C, the initial tensile strength is greater than 0.47MPa. In the process of shooting, the initial tensile strength must be in a range that the sand core can be completely ejected and at the same time void of excessive deformation. Therefore, the sand temperature is best controlled at 20~30°C for sand cores with complex shapes and thin wall structure, while 15~30°C for those with simple shape and thick wall. 2.1.2.3Catalytic gas temperature and blowing time The initial strength of sand core is influenced by catalytic gas temperature and blowing time, as can be seen in Figure 3. Compared to 110°C, a catalytic gas temperature of 150°C requires a lower blowing time for achieving a desired initial strength. Summary of research on cold box process The conclusions of this section are: 1.Shortening the core sand standby time after mixing can reduce the fluctuation of the quality. The time should not exceed 15 min for sand cores of complex shapes or thin walls, and 30 min for cores of simple shape or thick walls. 2.Controlling the sand temperature in a reasonable range and increasing the catalytic gas temperature allows the sand core to achieve the desired initial strength in a short timeframe. Therefore, the efficiency, as relates to lower defective core rates (see table 4), can be improved. 2.2 Inorganic core making process As per empirical evidence in application, as well as testimony from technicians of inorganic material suppliers, it is believed that reaction to air and dehydration leads to crusting of the mixed core sand (Wei, Liu, Pi, & Qin, 2013). When room and sand temperatures rise, the speed of crusting will increase, which lowers the quality. To reduce encrustation, the temperature of the inorganic sand should be no more than 35°C at a standby time ideally that is lower than 10 minutes. In the inorganic core making process, the core sand

is first injected into the heated core box. Then, a quick curing and encrustation on the outer contour occurs, while the interior core sand is not yet entirely cured. Finally, hot catalytic gas is injected to increase the interior sand temperature and as curing occurs, drain water is released. In the core making process of a high temperature heater product, verification of one type of cylinder block shows that increasing the catalytic gas temperature can reduce the blowing time as the mould temperature remains unchanged. To summarize, during the inorganic sand core making process, it is found that: 1.To reduce quality fluctuations, sand temperature should be lower than 35°C and the standby time must be less than 10 min. 2.A higher catalytic gas temperature can increase efficiency. Results The research results in section 2 show that, irrespective of process employed (cold box or inorganic process), sand temperature, core sand standby time, and catalytic gas temperature are always important parameters to control.

3.Analysis and improvement of core making process and equipment 3.Comparison of core making processes Focussing on 3 key parameters --sand temperature, core sand standby time and catalytic gas temperature—weaknesses in the relative stages of the traditional core making process are optimised, as is shown in Figure 4. The optimised version avoids the storage of core sand and improves or simplifies the other stages. It results in improved control of the 3

内吹热空气（催化气体）使砂芯内部芯砂温度提高，同时可将固化期间释放的水导出 [3]。在 615 缸体上的制芯验证表明：在模具温度不变的情况下，提高热空气温度（“催化气体温度”）可以减少吹气时间。另外，我司给某客户提供的高温加热器，制某形状简单、厚大的砂芯，之前“催化气体温度”240℃～ 250℃，制芯循环时间 55s ～ 75s； “ 催化气体温度”300 ℃ ～ 360 ℃ 时，制芯循环时间 30s ～ 55s。通过无机的应用经验，得出结论为：控制“砂温”不超过 35℃、缩短“芯砂待用时间”不超过 10min，可减少砂芯质量波动；提高“催化气体温度”，可以提高制芯效率。 2.3 小结不论是冷芯工艺还是无机工艺，都需要控制“砂温”、 “芯砂待用时间”、“催化气体温度”。

3 制芯流程及装备的分析改进 3.1 制芯流程对比分析针对“砂温”、“芯砂待用时间”、“催化气体温度” 三个工艺关键要素，从传统制芯流程分析，找出工艺关键要素所对应的工序并优化，见图 4。优化后的制芯流程取消了芯砂存储工序，及改善了其它工序，实现了对 “砂温”、“芯砂待用时间” 、“催化气体温度”的有效控制。

3.2 制芯单元布局与改进按照制芯流程分析结果，进一步开展对“传统制芯单元布局” （图5）结构的改进。实现对 “砂温” 、 “芯砂待用时间”、 “催化气体温度”的精准控制，保证制芯质量的稳定。最后，应用“集成”设计理念，开发新型集成式制芯单元 MiCC（Mingzhi Technology Integration Core Centre），如图 6 所示。同时开发匹配的智能控制系统MiCL （Mingzhi Technology Intelligence Core Control），实现制芯过程变量的闭环控制。 3.2.1 原砂温控的改进 Figure 4 Comparison between traditional and optimised core making process 图４传统制芯流程与优化制芯流程对比图

parameters noted. Layout and optimization In accordance with the proposed changes in the core making process, the layout of the traditional core making unit, as shown in Figure 5, is modified to improve control of the 3 variables. Applying an integrated design concept, a new type of core making unit MiCC (Mingzhi Technology Integration Core Centre) is developed, which is illustrated in Figure 6. Additionally, an intelligent control system MiCL (Mingzhi Technology Intelligence Core Control) is developed for this unit, enabling closed loop control of these variables in the core-making process. Improved temperature control of sand Since silica sand has poor thermal conductivity, a sand temperature control device in the form of an air heat exchanger is developed. It is designed as a compact structure, easily integrated with the sand storage structure. Aided by MiCL’s calculation of the monitoring core sand temperature, the temperature range of input sand can be broadened from 5~35°C to 0~50°C. That is to say, the addition of the temperature controller offers more effective and precise control of the input temperature than without it. Core sand standby time

依据硅砂导热性差的原理，研发了一种空气热交换形式的原砂温控装置，再通过紧凑的结构设计实现与制芯单元原砂存储结构集成设计。同时通过对单元芯砂的温控监测及 MiCL 智能控制系统的计算。可使制芯单元输入原砂温度范围由原先的 5 ～ 35℃扩大到 0 ～ 50℃，此原砂温控装置的增加既满足集成制芯单元的紧凑布局又实现原砂热交换温度的有效控制。 3.2.2 “芯砂待用时间”的改进集成式制芯单元简化了“芯砂”流转过程，取消了“下砂通道”及“过渡储砂斗”，“混砂装置”根据 MiCL 智能控制系统对单批混砂量、单次射砂量、单次制芯节拍的逻辑换算定义混砂量并将混合好的“芯砂”直接加入至“储砂筒”。实现“芯砂”的即混即用，“芯砂待用时间”大幅度缩减。按照传统制芯单元布局，测算“芯砂待用时间”见表 1。改进后的集成制芯单元“芯砂待用时间”是传统制芯单元的 10%。 3.2.3 “催化气体温度”的改进传统制芯单元布局，催化气体加热器一般布置在钢结构平台上。从加热器至吹气罩的管路长度约 3m ～ 8m，加热的催化气体在进入吹气罩前温度损失约 50%，且冬季更为明显，其主要原因是较长的管路产生了热量损失。

The integrated core making unit simplifies the cycle of the core sand transportation. The channel and transitional funnel (shown in Figure 5) are cancelled. The sand mixer defines the sand addition through the conversion of MiCL calculation results based on the amount of mixed sand, the volume of shot sand, and time of one patch. Then, it adds the core sand to cylinder directly, which means instant use of core sand and a shorter standby time The measured standby time of the traditional unit is listed in Table 1, whilst that of the integrated core making unit is in Table 2. After optimization, the core sand standby time becomes 10% versus the traditional time. Catalytic gas temperature In the traditional core making unit layout, the catalytic gas heater is generally set on the steel platform, which means the pipe connecting it to the hood is 3~8 m. As a result, there is approximately 50% loss of gas temperature before gas is transferred into the hood, due to the length of pipeline, which is a more notable phenomenon in cold environments and seasons, such as wintertime. The integrated core making unit applies the high-efficiency curing technology. It accomplishes a ‘0 distance’ (<0.5 m) catalytic gas transfer into the hood by nature of the integrated design of the heater and hood. The heat loss and catalyst used are both reduced, so the efficiency increases. The comparison data is in Table 3 (Yang & Xu, 2021).

4.Production verification

The integrated core-making unit enables the control and improvement of sand temperature, core sand standby time, and catalytic gas temperature, of which the effects of core sand standby time and catalytic gas temperature are the most obvious. The quality comparison between the traditional core making unit and the optimised unit, when manufacturing 5,000 pieces of product, is illustrated in Table 4.

5.Results and discussion 1.Through analysis of the core-making process, it is found that the sand temperature, core sand standby time, and catalytic gas temperature are the significant factors that affect the fluidity of the core sand and the initial strength of the sand core. 2.Focusing on improving these key factors, the traditional core-making unit is optimized and improved by development of the integrated core-making unit, MiCC. Quality and efficiency have been greatly improved, while material energy savings is achieved. It can reduce customer operating costs and offer an improved manufacturing environment. In the future, the unit will provide core-making producers with a reasonable solution for upgrading process transformation and meet the needs of high-end casting production. In summary, the proposed integrated casting core-making equipment leads to a more environmentalfriendly, efficient, and intelligent solution. ■

集成式制芯单元应用了集成高效固化技术，通过加热器与吹气罩的集成设计，实现催化气体“零距离” （＜ 0.5m）进入吹气罩，减小了热损失、催化剂耗量，提升了固化效率。对比数据见表 3[4]。

4 生产测试及验证结果集成式制芯单元实现了对“砂温”、“芯砂待用时间”、 “催化气体温度”的控制改善，其中“芯砂待用时间”及“催化气体温度”产生的效果最为明显。传统制芯单元与集成式制芯单元制芯 5000 件质量对比数据见表 4。集成式制芯单元上制芯质量稳定，射不实缺陷率和断芯率都有明显降低。

5 结语通过开展制芯工艺试验研究，找出了“ 砂温 ”、 “芯砂待用时间”、“催化气体温度”是影响芯砂流动性、砂芯初强度的关键因素；围绕改善这些关键因素，对传统制芯单元进行优化升级，研发了“集成式制芯单元 -MiCC”，砂芯质量及制芯生产效率得到大幅提升，同时实现了节材、节能，降低了客户运营成本，改善生产环境。鉴于集成式制芯单元的研发经验及成果，可为制芯生产的客户在工艺转型升级上提供合理的解决方案，引领铸造制芯装备向环保、高效、智能方向发展，满足高端铸件生产的需求。 ■

A Giant Among Core Shooters - The New Laempe LHL200-1700

Our visit on site had a special occasion this time, because in the large halls at SKET GmbH (Schwermaschinenkombinat "Ernst Thälmann") in Magdeburg, the huge LHL200 - 1700 was set up for trial operation before it is shipped. In future, the machine will produce cores for the casting of ship engines in Weifang, China.

Henri Ackmann's team loves the big machine The machine is so big that we had to move to the huge, historic halls of SKET GmbH in Magdeburg to set it up for the test run, Laempe team leader Henri Ackmann tells us proudly. The huge construction made of iron, steel and a lot of technology impresses with its compactness and the imposing dimensions of 11m height, 16m length and 30m width with a weight of approx. 300t. The sand cores can weigh up to 2,600kg with a maximum shot volume of 1,700l and a cycle of 6 cores per hour is possible. The machine can be operated by one person plus gripper, the mixer processes approx. 9t of sand per hour. Introducing Lamet® 5922, Ultraseed® Ce, and FeSi to the process resulted in major improvements: The scrap rate dropped from 30 % to 2 %. There was also a very low shrinkage level, accepted by the end user, and there was no need for the use of chills or any other production process change. Not only was the foundry able to save annual costs immensely by reducing the scrap rate, but the foundry’s customers’ satisfaction also improved resulting in a continuation of the business. New Requirements Demand Innovative Solutions

With this system, physical parameters are measured and analyzed to determine the current status and condition of a machine. Sensors supply data in real time. Continuous data analysis highlights trends and identifies possible damage to components before failure actually occurs.
