dark hues such as burgundy have always been a prime example of winter fashion. Don’t get us wrong, berets are still a highly desirable accessory, however, if you want to update your new season wardrobe captain cap is a perfect balance between style and functionality. Seen on the runways of pre-fall Chanel, and AW 2018/19 off Christian Dior and Zadig & Voltaire, sailor caps captured the attention of many fashionistas with its irresistible boyish style. It will look really good paired with a simple double-breasted coat, blue jeans and pair of western ankle boots. P.S. Even your most basic wardrobe pieces will get a high fashion spin, which means you don’t have to spend any extra pennies to get the runway-worthy look. How to take your winter ski style to the next level By Zuzana Branderska @branderosa_

Now the funnier Aprés-Ski part. Bet on monochromatic look e.g. in white or cream and complete with bold snow boots. Again, leggings work like magic, this time adding oversize chunky turtleneck is a very good choice. Don’t forget to keep your hands warm in fluffy mittens. When it comes to protecting your head - depending on cold add some furry earmuffs or achieve the boho look with a twisted headband. If the air is pretty wintery, definitely add some charm and wear faux fur Russian hat and complete with sophisticated sunnies. Lastly, as in our day-to-day winter outfits, layering is crucial (not only because of fashion, but because of keeping yourself warm). For instance, roll up your sleeves and show a bit of your first layer together with chunky knits and bold scarf.

W i

talking about ski-chic fashion, one thing is sure - we all want to look feminine and cool - like no more skiing marshmallow, please! So in order to let the “marshmallow look” where it really belongs (to the kids), let’s rock that snow with a style, shall we? Starting with the golden rule, which is to avoid oversize outer pieces. Instead, choose clothing that helps with defining your waist and curves. Therefore, bet on tight slimming jackets or quilted jumpsuit. To make your ski outfit a little bit more interesting, try to choose pieces with gory details on pock@inthefrow ets or hood. When shopping for skiing trousers, hunt for stretchy ones, similar to leggings. In order to be really practical when skiing, try to get a zip-front bodysuit.

Holiday jumpers

MONSOON Dasha sequin reindeer jumper, £40

Mood booster for your seasonal closet By Zuzana Branderska @branderosa_

matter if you are hustling in the office, or you are having a Xmass party with your co-workers, it IS possible to wear a jumper in a stylish way. How? To achieve the elevated look the best matching item to the jumper is definitely using a pleated midi skirt. Don’t forget to tuck the sweater in front and wear, knitted sock boots. If the jumper is oversized and chunky, pair it with leather jeggings and boots for a casual comfy look. In case you still prefer wearing a skirt, but you are petite or want to try a cute girly outfit, instead of pleated midi choose shorter skirt together with over-the-knee boots. Again, don’t forget to define your waistline by tucking it in front.

I personally enjoy to demonstrate my festive mood by wearing Christmas jumpers, however, it doesn’t mean I have to look like walking Christmas tree. That’s why I prefer sweaters with a neutral base such as grey, beige or white with tiny joyful writings and details like cute reindeer, etc. This “calm” jumper is much easier to style in any way you like. For example, wear it with heritage checks printed pants for an elegant look or add some colour by wearing a red plaid skirt. The other way to avoid infantile outfit is to wear it casually with destructed skinny denim and with tights underneath, if necessary.

Sparkle

By Katie Boone What it is:

@kboobeauty

A brilliant and long-wearing, liquid glitter eyeshadow.

A more subtle shine will still get you that wow effect without looking too overdone. Plus, it works wonderfully for day to night, office to after party makeup.

Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadow is a long-wearing, sparkle eyeshadow with the perfect blend of pearl and glitter to leave your eyes with incredible luster and shimmer. It’s got a steep price tag, at least to me, at around £24. However, a little goes a long way so I anticipate it lasting quite a while. I did a pretty basic day look with black liquid liner and two coats of waterproof mascara. Then I applied a few dots from STILA Magnificent the doe-foot of the Stila eyeshadow then metals glitter & glow blended with a flat brush, making sure liquid eye shadow, £24 at Cult Beauty to avoid the black liner. I then added another coat of mascara. You could use your finger instead of a flat brush but it may not be as easy to control where the glitter goes. You can easily go from a basic day look to a dazzling night look with one product and 30 seconds of effort. A brighter colour of the glitter would look amazing over a light coloured shadow for more impact or a bolder look. If you’re looking for a way to add glitter, definitely give this one a try!

BEAUTY The movement

WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT

Clean Beauty

Or how cosmetics will change the world By Marion Rauzy @marionrauzystylist

you have spent the last ten years in a Balinese silence retreat, you must have at least heard of the vegan movement. The cause of animal welfare and healthy food is raging, but not only in our plates. More than 60% of what we put on our skin ends up in our bloodstream. The wealth of information available in a click has shifted consumerism towards a more conscious approach. With glamorous spokespersons like Miley Cyrus and Natalie Portman, the message is right on target and more and more young women start to wonder: who made my clothes? Where does my food

Until just a few years ago, clean and vegan beauty meant this friend who only rinsed her hair with vinegar and used hand-made skincare out of olive oil. These days are long gone. A mindful consumer is still a consumer and even the most hardcore vegan still needs mascara and moisturizer. The biggest brands were slow to catch up, but not keen on letting such a good market space to pass by. And that is why you are seeing today, so many new lines of cosmetics popping up. But what does it all mean? What is the difference between clean, vegan, cruelty-free?

ISSUE 5 | FASHIONTOGO-FTG.COM

VEGAN Little did we know about all the animal-derived products we could find in our skincare. I am not only talking about beeswax on your lip balm or honey in your hair mask. Did you know that the carmine of your red lipstick or your eyeshadow come from crushed beetles? Now you do! The horror movie-like of animal products in our beauty drawers is never ending and if you can stomach it, google it. I guarantee that a few of your favourites will end up in the bin. Vegan products will never use any animal products. But is that it? Is that enough to guarantee “healthy skincare?

Credits: The Creative Exchange/Unsplash

Unless

BEAUTY The movement

NATURAL

ETHICAL

Parabens, toxins and plastics and other terrible ingredients could be in your makeup and still be vegan since there is no animal product inside. They are known to be directly linked to health issues and consumers have started to avoid them as much as possible. “Paraben-free” is now one of the top-selling slogans for any cosmetics company and they now focus on creating products coming only from natural sources (well.. Arsenic is natural). So we are now left with no animal-derived products containing no toxic plastics. Are we done yet?

Is the banana of your night cream harvested from depleted forests? Are you funding South American mafias with your hair mask? How about ethical skincare? How can I just survive so much pressure?

Not just yet. Most beauty products are tried on animals. The finished product might not be but most ingredients have been, so PETA has launched its official Bunny logo to promote “cruelty-free” brands. FYI, selling in mainland China requires testing on animals by law so most of your favourite luxury brands are testing on bunnies before it reaches your beauty counter.

CRUELTY-FREE

The amount of responsibilities falling under a simple lip gloss purchase is overwhelming. The easiest solution would be to keep on thinking: “not my problem”. Or is it? Could each consumer’s voice be part of a bigger movement, growing at every conscious purchase? Could the big corporations, little by little, be influenced towards a new way of producing? Could buying make-up actually change the world?

MOVEMENT OR MOMENT

Female body hair Is it really such a big deal?

weeks ago, in one of her latest interviews, actress Julia Roberts reflected on her hairy armpits she showed on the red carpet during the premiere of her film Notting Hill. The actress explained that was simply a mistake, certainly not a statement. And definitely not the feminist one. Almost 20 years later, the issue about female body hair is relevant more than ever. It’s not personal anymore, it has become political too. Hair removal is not only an obsession of a modern women though, it dates way back in history when even ancient Egyptians and Greeks removed their pubic hair for hygiene reasons. However, it was the feminist protests for equal rights in the ‘70s that brought the matter under the spotlight.

Is removing your body hair really necessary? Is not removing your body hair a fight against beauty norms or just a trendy social media statement? According to the University of Columbia, San Francisco’s research, almost 60% of women in the US believes female hairlessness is more ‘hygienic’, which is the main reason for removing body hair. However, it’s proven that having a good hygiene, in general, won’t affect the hygiene of your body hair. On the other side, over 30% reported grooming their body hair because it makes their genitals more attractive, while over 20% is doing it because of partner preference. On the other side, over 30% reported grooming their body hair because it makes their genitals more attractive, while over 20% is doing it because of partner preference. That quite a lot of women changing their body because of men, which makes a body-positivity movement not so strange anymore. Although there was a lot of negativity toward women growing body hair as a statement or just a personal choice, embracing body hair is much bigger than simply not shaving your legs or general hair removal - it’s also a way of loving your body despite social norms. However, if a woman decides other way, whether because of health care or any other reason, it should be because she wants it, not a society, and definitely not a man.

TOP TRICKS FOR SUCCESSFUL

Online dating By Lia Chaudry

@sassysavvyadventurer

Don’t approach online dating submissively - it’s scary to admit that you are “looking” for that special someone, but don’t forget most of the time your blind date is auditioning as much as you are! If you walk into your date with an open mind, a genuine desire to learn about the other person, have a pleasant conversation and have an inner confidence of what you bring to the potential partnership, you will feel a lot more comfortable meeting strangers! Remember, they are probably just as nervous as you are. Don’t worry too much about them liking YOU and I promise, you won’t feel as nervous!

Never lie on your profile Don’t put up photos from 20yrs ago. Don’t use filters on your photo’s, especially the animal ones. Don’t say you don’t have any children if you really do! Be confident

Over the years online dating has drastically changed, which means the rules have changed too, and finding THE one may not be as easy as it seems. However, the last thing you won’t is to lose hope, rather keep your head and standards high.

LIFESTYLE Love life

Be self aware I used to let guys send me a good couple of weeks of messages back and forth before meeting up in person. Then I realized that many men are very eloquent online, but too shy or too socially awkward to really spark any chemistry in real life. Men who write long messages were often the most reluctant to meet in person or they were just time-wasters. Eventually, I made sure the messages were shorter and after just a few, I would initiate asking to meet for a coffee. Not surprisingly, some never wrote back. Others agreed and we found out during the meeting that there’s was no chemistry. Why would you invest time becoming emotionally attached to someone through their writing and words if you never click once you meet in person? Get that initial meeting over with as soon as you can!

Marathon, not a sprint Unless you get incredibly lucky you’re not going to hit off with the first person you meet and live happily ever after. You need to be prepared for a series of ‘interesting’ first dates before you eventually find yourself finding that one special person.

Don't drag it out

Make sure you’re not asking for more than you’re willing to give. It’s difficult to demand standards from others if you don’t have them for yourself. The classiest thing a lady can do is simply expect high standards, not demand them. It’s amazing how much this makes a difference in people’s opinion of you. TIP: Consider asking a trusted friend (perhaps even a male friend) to check your online profile and see if they can guess the type of person you’re trying to attract.

Recognise toxic men

Be honest about your end goals Be honest with yourself about what you’re looking for and make sure you’re using the appropriate website. Also, you need to know what type of man you are looking for, then, if his internet profile gives even the hint of something else to the contrary, DO NOT CONTACT THAT PERSON!

Take a break

Be safe

During my first online dating foray, I thought I had it down. Then I scheduled three coffee meetups on the same day which was as exhausting as it sounds. Looking back, this wasn’t the smartest move anyway, but having three different blind dates on the same day made me realize I wanted to take a step back and not be out there so much. Take a break sometimes, enjoy that time to refocus on yourself!

I have NEVER let anyone pick me up from my house for a first date. I ALWAYS tell a friend when I go on a first date, even if it was just coffee. It’s just always good to let people know your whereabouts when you’re hanging out with complete strangers!

If a guy reaches out to “tease” you or to challenge you (“I bet you’re the kind of girl who would never…”), walk away right now! This is a huge red flag. Only a stranger with bad intentions would want to make you feel defensive - delete the message and move on. Same with inappropriate or vulgar unwanted messages, don’t even bother responding with a reaction because that is what they are looking for! Block or report the person and focus on the positive interactions.

THE ULTIMATIVE

Holiday movie LIST

The latest film releases and best Christmas classics (*spoiler alert: Home Alone is not on the list) THE PRINCESS SWITCH (2018)

THE HOLIDAY (2006)

You are thinking what is a 12-year-old film doing on this list? Well, it’s a definitely a romance classic worth seeing more than once. Did we mention the ultimate dream team, Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law and Jack Black?

THE NUTCRACKER AND THE FOUR REALMS (2018)

One of the latest films released under the Walt Disney Pictures just in time for Christmas is The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, which takes us into the magical world after Claire, the main character, receives a special gift from her godfather. Slightly childish, so it should definitely please younger Disney fans, however, if your film rating standards are lower than usual due to the festive spirit, you will enjoy it.

Vanessa Hudgens plays a double role as a Chicago baker Stacy and a duchess named Margaret Delacourt who, you guessed it, switch their roles for two days due to look-alike appearance. It may be cheesy and predictable, even inspired by The Parent Trap starring Lindsay Lohan, but it’s also a fun holiday feel-good romance so you wouldn’t be expecting anything less.

LIFESTYLE Holiday spirit Netflix Original The Holiday Calendar

LOVE ACTUALLY (2003)

CHRISTMAS (2017)

THE HOLIDAY CALENDAR (2018)

Another feel-good film tells the story of Abby Sutton, a photographer who inherits an antique holiday advent calendar which seems to predict the future. Okay, it sounds like something you have seen before. It would be vain to persuade you that this one is any different, however, the main characters are what makes this film very lovable, especially Abby’s wise “Gramps”.

The journey takes us to 1843 where celebrated British novelist Charles Dickens struggles with his career and private life. Finally, he writes a Christmas story, a tale that would define the modern Christmas. The Man Who Invented Christmas isn’t your typical Holiday film, and many would agree it’s not really for kids either, except if your kids understand the mind of a crazy writer who can hardly feel the difference between the real life and his vivid imagination. However, in a sea of not-so-creative family Christmas films, this one is refreshing and quite original.

Released exactly 15-years ago, Love Actually is one of the most popular festive romantic comedy movies making every Holiday film list. It follows the lives of 10 different personalities (somehow connected) dealing with their love stories weeks before Christmas in London. It will make you smile, it will make you cry - that pretty much sounds like a good recipe for the festive season. The cast includes Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson, Colin Firth, Keira Knightley, Emma Thompson and Rowan Atkinson.

AROUND EUROPE

New Year celebration By Ellena Alice McGuinness @ellenalice

Budapest is a

city is full of amazing independents and is cheap to boot. It might be a little chilly, but after a couple of drinks in a Ruin bar you’ll be wearing a beer jacket in no time. Try Szimpla Kert - the original ruin bar, but don’t just walk straight in a sit down, take a look around the many unique rooms and ensure you snap a picture in the Photo Booth as a keepsake. A few doors down is “Bors GasztroBar”, not a place to be missed when in need of a refuel. Don’t miss a stunning fireworks display over the Danube river. I am sure you’ll be feeling a little sensitive the next day so go relax at the thermal baths it’s a tradition in Hungary after all. Let the warm healing waters wash over you and make the most of the beautiful outdoor pools. If that isn’t enough then there are so so many more things to see and do in the beautiful city.

It’s the same scenario every year, isn’t it? Which local boozer you’ll be crammed in with the people you don’t speak to for the other 364 days of the year. Why do we do it to ourselves? Get away and travel more, for isn’t there the saying it’s the only thing you buy that makes you richer? I’ve been travelling for months now, all over Europe, so if it were me I would be heading to one of these babies...and I know exactly how I would see in 2019.
