EDITOR’S NOTE
First off, I want to wish everyone happy holidays! It is crazy to think 2022 is coming to an end already. Where does the time go?
The season is well underway at this point in the year and it is great to get back into the camping routine. Camping is my favorite part of the weekend, the racing is just a bonus!
I want to take a minute to mention that we have quite a few new advertisers in the magazine. Make sure you
take a look through and check them out! Be sure to follow them on social media, visit their websites and support the companies that support FTR!
I look forward to seeing everyone as the season moves on. Make sure to stop me and talk to me about the magazine. I am always looking to improve and would love to hear your feedback.
Thanks for reading, Kurt Lucas.
The start of the Hare Scramble season has been nothing but over the top with daily phone calls, texts and emails thanks to the Hurricane. As a lot of us experienced the wrath of IAN, it also made an impact on our schedule. As CFTR always kicks off our Hare Scrambles season, things changed quickly as some of our clubs were in the flight zone and it wasn’t pretty. With CFTR and SADRA both on the same piece of property separated by the peace river, we both were affected. SADRA actually started Labor Day weekend and had about three weeks’ worth of trail laid out and the quad course was actually done. I told myself I wasn’t doing that again as it about bit me in the you know what last year with more mowing, more stakes, arrows, ribbon and the amount of manpower it takes to lay out three different courses, but I did it anyway. Well, it sort of bit me because over half of the quad course was under water and were talking
PREZ SAYS
feet, not inches. Our bike courses were also very wet with all those lakes and ponds overflowing and becoming a mini Lake Okeechobee, it was that bad.
Getting back to the FTR schedule, CFTR had some of the same issues and quickly realized that they also would have to reschedule. Along with the two Bartow races, DDR and Old School also inspected their property, they also would have to make some date changes. The only one that could hold their date was ACMC and the rest of us was in dire straits sort of speak. With a lot of communication between our chairman, myself and club presidents we were making things happen. Making sure our clubs had an opportunity to reschedule and keep our scheduled dates intact was the priority. Super proud of our four clubs that worked together as a team and for the betterment of our membership on accomplishing this huge task of rescheduling on a minute’s notice. So many things have
to be checked on and approved on the club’s business end for clubs to change their date and each one made it happen. Kudos to CFTR, SADRA, DDR and OLD SCHOOL DIRT RIDERS as we have the same scheduled dates, just different locations and clubs. A special Thanks to Old School for allowing SADRA to take their December date as they probably could have pulled it off but decided to go later in the season, Thanks guys!
By the time you read this, CFTR will be in the books and SADRA will be close or just cleaning up from their event and Christmas will be here.
Hoping all our family, friends and members have a healthy and safe holiday while getting ready for the Mondon Hill event sponsored by Suncoast Trail Blazers.
Thanks for listening, Randy Faul

It’s Christmas again!!! This year has flown by. I realized last week that this is my 69th Christmas… hard to believe.
With all the challenges we have had this year, Christmas comes as a welcome relief. The families, the friends, the music and, of course the gifts, Christmas is a time to reflect and renew.
So often we can get caught up
CHAPLAIN’S CORNER
in the gift giving that we forget about the wonderous gift given to all of us on that very first Christmas. Isaiah 9:6 states it beautifully, “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Now here is something to ponder…. .The scripture says “to us” twice with second time stating a son is given. Given by whom and why?
God wants us and loves us. He would do anything to have us back in a full relationship with Him. Ever since Adam and Eve, God has had a plan to have his children return to Him. God came down in the form of a little baby, so you and I can be loved by our Father forever. Matthew 1:23 “…the virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call Him Immanuel”
(which means, “God with us”).
This wonderful gift of acceptance, forgiveness, comfort is there for all of us. Jesus has the power to forgive us of our sins, once and for all and forever.
Matthew 28:18, “Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.”
It is the gift that keeps on giving, now and forever. Acts 16:31,… “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved…”
Make this the best Christmas ever! Celebrate it with your closest Friend and Savior, Jesus!
Please join us at “The Good Race” Christmas Joy Service, 7:00, Saturday night at the CMA tent!
Blessings on and off the road, Jim and Betty Edleston CMA
WHAT’S NEW?
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS
per Kyle McAfee via FTR FacebookHello membership. Hopefully everyone made it home safely from a great weekend racing with CFTR. The club did an incredible job navigating all the hurdles that Mother Nature threw at them and the membership really stepped up to show their support with the rescheduled date. They had well over 1,000 entries which is huge! A couple issues that need immediate attention from this weekend.
-PIt Riding.
It was unacceptable throughout the weekend. I personally stopped and issued warnings to multiple people as did every other official I spoke with. We are two rounds in and the warning are going to turn into non-negotiable DQs. If we as an organization cannot manage the pit riding then we are jeopardizing our access to the beautiful properties that we are fortunate to have use of. If you are not aware our access to these properties is becoming scarce and this puts the organization’s ability to host these events at risk.
-PeeWee Program.
I saw several peewee parents pushing their riders off the line Saturday. This is not only against the rules but it creates a major safety issue. Pushing a rider, especially a peewee rider, can easily cause the rider to slide back on the seat which not only puts them in a position of little to no control but also causes them to pull back on the throttle which further compounds the problem. Do not push your rider off the line!!
Peewee beginner parents. There were several liquid cooled bikes that raced the peewee beginner class this weekend. The peewee beginner class is limited to air cooled/non ICE motorcycles only. No liquid cooled motorcycles. If your child is on a liquid cooled machine they need to be moved into C class immediately. Looking forward to seeing everyone back in Bartow for SADRA’s event the 10th & 11th of December.
CFTR PEACE RIVER RACE REPORT
It sure felt weird not starting the season at the CFTR Peace River Hare Scramble. Hurricane Ian had other plans and we had to do some switching and head to Bartow for round two of the hare scramble season instead. To be honest I was not sure if this race would go on as scheduled or not. Hurricane Nicole decided to make her presence known throughout the state on Thursday, soaking the already saturated Central Florida region. Luckily, the property did not get the worst of Nicole and we were set to go racing. The storms definitely made it a challenge for the members of CFTR with multiple reroutes, re-arrowing and just a high amount of stress leading up to the race.
The trail was great, Saturday featured
a ton of flow with some cool off-camber areas as well as some hammocks with that tacky black dirt. Sunday was a similar trail but with more fast-open straights. On the challenges of Sunday were the fast mud ruts that formed in the fields. These sections really bogged the bike down while being ultra-slippery at the same time. Throttle control was key here and the ones who could master it really went on to succeed.
The beginning of the season is always neat. Many people are on new equipment, people in new classes and new race rigs make their way into the pasture. One of the biggest changes of the new season was the Vet classes moving from Sunday morning to Sunday afternoon. It really caught me off
guard with the number of new riders in the afternoon class. It seemed like there were way more people out on the track compared to last year. Another thing that caught me off guard was the number of AA riders there were on Sunday with 16 total riders. How about that AA class battle? Jesse Ansley and Jack Chambers put on a show with five laps of battling, Ansley would best Chambers in the end.
As for the Quad AA class it was a sea of Yamahas duking it out with Hunter Hart taking the win. The Quad AA class has become so competitive and is a must watch on Saturday Afternoons.
Let’s keep the great racing going!

Arm Pump Part II: The Passive Part of Arm Pump
Hello FTR Family,
At the time of this writing, just after Thanksgiving, we are ramping up for Hare Scramble #3 by SADRA, always a fun and demanding Florida course. Of course, by the time you read this, it will be 2023 or very close to it. I hope you all had a great holiday season and are looking forward to the second half of this season as much as I am. Last month we spoke about what arm pump is; if you missed it, here is the synopsis. Arm pump is an exertional compartment syndrome. Exertional compartment syndrome of the forearm occurs when we use the muscles so much that all the blood goes into the forearm, and as the muscles swell, the blood has a hard time getting out. Eventually, the muscles and forearm tissues swell with blood to the point of putting pressure on our nerves and arteries. In our forearms, just like every other area of our body, our musculoskeletal system is divided into distinct compartments. The compartments are bracketed by rigid structures such as bones
and fascia and contain all the body’s muscles, tendons, arteries, veins, nerves, and other soft tissues. Fascia is the dense, irregular connective tissue that offers structural support properties and often envelopes muscles as a sheath.
Fascia can be one of the critical tissues involved when people have arm pump that cannot be relieved with conservative measures. That being said, there are tools and techniques we use to make physical changes to the extensibility and rigidity of the fascia. At the very least, the goal is to improve the mobility of the fascia. My favorite technique is using my hands to actually bend the fascial compartment, which is a muscle play technique. Most of you instinctively do this when you get arm pump and grab and squeeze or massage your forearms.
Your forearm has two main muscle groups: the flexor group and the extensor group. The flexor group helps you flex your wrist and curl your fingers, as you grip your handlebars. The flexor side of your forearm is the side you see the most arm pump on since you are using those muscles the most. Here
is a good stretch test that can become your first-line stretching exercise if you cannot fully complete the motion.
Put your arm straight out in front of you at shoulder height, palm up, and your elbow entirely straight. Extend your wrist toward the floor and extend your fingers straight down. Hopefully, you have the length of your forearm flexors for your fingers to point straight down to the floor, and your wrist is at approximately a 90-degree angle to your forearm. If your wrist is not perpendicular to the floor and your fingers are not pointed straight down, you likely have decreased muscle length of a forearm flexor.
Next, gently grab the pads of your fingers with your other hand, all four of them, and pull your fingers back towards you, so they are straight down or even past vertical. What do you feel? If you feel a strong stretch on the palm side of your forearm, you now know how to perform the general stretch for all forearm flexors. Make sure your elbow stays fully straight during the movement. To improve the length of these muscles, hold the stretch in a strong but
comfortable position for 5 minutes, once per day, at minimum. This will gradually add length to your forearm flexors. In the future, once you can actively get wrist perpendicular to the floor and your fingers pointed straight down without pulling them back with your other hand, you no longer need this stretch. If you get arm pump worse on one side, compare both sides as you may notice a significant difference between the right and left forearm, which is another indication to perform this stretch. If you did not get the stretch feeling in your forearm or you had pain with the motion, do not perform the stretch.
Why is it so important to have the full length of our forearm flexors? Because if they are tight it creates the phenomenon of passive insufficiency. Passive insufficiently is when the length of a muscle limits the amount of simultaneous movement at two or more joints (Shapiro & Kamel, 2020). Since your forearm flexors cross multiple joints, including your elbow, wrist and fingers, if they are tight they can limit your ability to flex your fingers i.e., grip your handlebars if your elbow position changes such as charging through a set of whoops or hitting an unexpected root. This causes the other muscles in the forearm to work harder to overcome this limitation in range of motion. As muscles work harder the amount of blood they need increases, which can
lead to exertional compartment syndrome, i.e., arm pump. When you get the correct length of the tight muscles, the force required to grip the bars decreases, and so does your arm pump and forearm pain (Lewit et al., 2015). A qualified healthcare professional, such as a physical therapist, can perform length tests of the specific muscles in the forearm to determine which particular muscles are tight and need to be stretched to maximize the effectiveness of this treatment strategy to decrease arm pump. Decreased muscle length must be addressed to decrease the passive insufficiency of your forearm.
Even if you have been struggling with arm pump for years, visit me at the races; you might be surprised how much I can improve your arm pump or even alleviate it completely. Before you start any new exercise program, I highly recommend you consult a physical therapist or physician for a general health and physical activity readiness screening. If you are experiencing pain while riding, it is always beneficial to have a complete evaluation by a physical therapist or physician. If you have any questions or comments, please email me at contact@motopt.com, or call me at 904-395-5379. Let’s IMPROVE YOUR MOVE so you can ride pain-free with MotoPT.

The Peace River Harescramble in Bartow was such a fun race. I was able to grab the holeshot and led the field for the first ½ mile. Jack Chambers was the first to pass me going into some deep sand rollers. I grabbed fourth gear and skimmed the top of them at what felt like mach 10. I looked up and he was still gaining on me. It was at this point that I knew I was too old for this nonsense and settled in to my comfortable pace. I was proud of my race and felt like I rode well but it was only good enough for an 8th overall and I am ok with that.
For me to finish well in AA, all the pieces of the puzzle must come together. When people come to our office, often we will ask them to tell us about their retirement plan. Many times, they will tell us they have a 401(k) or an IRA. Some tell us about their pension or annuity. Others tell us when they are going to take their Social Security. These are pieces of their retirement puzzle. However, we have found that many people have pieces to their retirement puzzle but they do not have the picture on the box. They do not have
a comprehensive plan that shows how all their retirement savings and income streams will work together to create a retirement plan.
We named our financial firm Mosaic Financial Group. We help people put the pieces of their retirement puzzle together. There are so many factors when it comes to retirement including inflation, taxes, income, investments, healthcare, and legacy planning to name a few. It is important that you have a guide to help you put the pieces together and show you that picture on the box. If you think I might be able to help with that, I would love to chat. See you at the races.
