December 2 The monthly meeting of the McKinley Citizens’ Recycling Council Regular meetings are held at 2 pm on first Saturdays at the Red Mesa Center, 105 W. Hill - Gallup. The public is encouraged to attend to learn about recycling opportunities in our region, updates on residential Gallup curbside recycling, plans for recycling outreach and more. December 10 A Taizé Advent candlelight service will take place at 4:00 pm. Westminster Presbyterian Church-Gallup To provide an opportunity for silence and spiritual refreshment. The theme of “Joyous Expectation” will be explored through music, chant, prayer, quiet time, Scripture and readings. Please join us. Instead of tossing all of those holiday party items and decorations, think how you could re-use / re-purpose them for the McKinley Citizens’ Recycling Council Trashion Show scheduled for April 14th. Contact: Betsy 505-722-9257 A Holiday Tour of Homes The event is a fundraiser for the Ups & Downs Relay For Life Team of the American Cancer Society. Tour Beautiful Holiday Decorated Homes in the Gallup community. The evening begins with a Meet & Greet at 5:00 pm at the New Mexico Cancer Center, 2240 College Drive, where refreshments will be served. At 5:30 pm the tour vans will depart. Tours will end at the New Mexico Cancer Center. Tickets are $20 per person. Enjoy the lights and sights of the season supporting a great cause. December Events at Your Octavia Fellin Public Library Annual Mitten Tree Project

The Mitten Tree Project returns to the public library during the month of December. We are happy to accept donations of NEW mittens, hats, and scarves beginning December 1st at both library locations. All donated items will be given to Battered Family Services Inc. Help us decorate our trees and celebrate the joy of giving; keep families in McKinley County warm and snug this holiday season. For more information please call 505-863-1291 or email libsup@gallupnm.gov. Veterans Documentary Film Finale December 4th at 5pm, the Library will present the final episode of The Vietnam War. Programming for The Vietnam War, a film by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick, is offered as part of a grant from the American Library Association, PBS and WETA Washington, DC. Following the film screening the Library will host a closing reception to honor Veterans and to thank the Gallup Veterans Helping Veterans for their help and support with this program. Question-Persuade-Refer (QPR) Suicide Prevention Program December 12th at 1 pm, the Library will host a presentation by Wendy LinebrinkAllison, Program Manager of the New Mexico Crisis and Access Line (NMCAL). Ms. Linebrink-Allison is a behavioral health advocate that believes in working collaboratively to build a healthier community. She is a prevention trainer and offers a variety of curriculums that help people identify suicide warning signs, and tips on how to offer support to people when they are struggling. Ms. Linebrink-Allison is regularly featured on radio, television, and newspaper outlets promoting and lobbying for community mental health within the behavioral health care systems. Dr. Stefanie Beniato - Popé and Naranjo:The Pueblo Revolt December 12th at 6pm, the Library presents Dr. Stefanie Beniato’s presentation on the Pueblo Revolt of 1680. The Pueblo Revolt of 1680—also known as Popé’s Rebellion— was an uprising of indigenous Pueblo people against the Spanish colonizers in the province of Santa Fe.
