Leitartike Liebe Leserinnen und Leser, es ist September geworden, während wir Sie um den Gardasee begleitet und Ihnen die verschiedensten Ecken unserer Gegend vorgestellt haben.

Auch die aktuelle Ausgabe von GardaPlus hält für Sie wieder zahlreiche Veranstaltungen rund um den See bereit. Und wie immer ist sicher für jeden Geschmack etwas dabei. Die vielen Sportevents, die wir durch ein paar schöne Ausflugstipps ergänzt haben, versprechen einen aktiven Spätsommer. Da ist zum Beispiel der „Lake Garda Marathon”, der die Teilnehmer von Limone sul Garda bis nach Malcesine führen wird. Oder das Festival „Franciacorta in Cantina”, bei dem man den Landstrich westlich von Brescia mit allen Sinnen genießen kann.

Ob zu Fuß, mit dem Fahrrad oder per Bus – Wein, kulinarische Köstlichkeiten und jede Menge Kultur warten in den Weingütern der Franciacorta darauf, von Ihnen entdeckt zu werden.

As always we have given importance to a series of events taking part in different towns of the lake. We are sure that you will certainly find something that suits your needs and interests.

During the month of September you could do some sport activity or excursion. We remind you some sports competition as for example the „Lake Garda Marathon” starting in Limone sul Garda and arriving in Malcesine. There is also the festival „Franciacorta in Cantina” where you can discover with all your senses the beautiful area west of Brescia. Here you can enjoy wines, typical culinary delicacies and cultural events, whether on foot, by bike or by bus.

In this issue you find many other suggestions to spend nice September days at the lake.

Die Einsiedelei San Valentino bei Gargnano

Die Gemeinde Gargnano am Westufer des Gardasees besteht aus 13 kleinen Orten, die sich zwischen Zeder, Zypressen und Zitronengärten den Berg hinauf ziehen. Der Hauptort Gargnano liegt direkt am See, hat einen idyllischen Hafen, verwinkelte Gässchen und ist von prächtigen Villen und Palästen umgeben. Von hier führt eine wunderschöne Panoramastraße den Berg hinauf zum Valvestino-Stausee. Auf dem Weg liegt das kleine Bergdörfchen Sasso, ebenfalls Teil der Gemeinde Gargnano. Dort beginnt ein Fußweg, der zu einem kleinen Schmuckstück unter den GardaseeSehenswürdigkeiten führt. Eine knapp 400 Jahre alte, weiß gekalkte Kapelle schmiegt sich auf etwa 770 Metern Höhe an eine überhängende Felswand.

Der Überlieferung zufolge wurde sie im Jahr 1630 als Zufluchtsort von Überlebenden der damals herrschenden Pestepidemie gebaut. Im 19. Jahrhundert zog sich der Einsiedler Jeremiah Paladine für viele Jahre dorthin zurück, baute sie aus und schmückte sie mit einem bis heute erhalten gebliebenen Portrait. Die kleine Einsiedelei mit ihren winzigen Zimmern, der malerischen Kapelle, einer Feuerstelle und einer natürlichen Zisterne ist aufgrund ihrer Intimität sowie der einmaligen Lage und atemberaubenden Aussicht von faszinierender Schönheit. Um sie von Sasso aus zu erreichen, parkt man am besten am Ortseingang. Von dort durchquert man das Dörfchen zu Fuß.

Am Ortsende befindet sich eine überdachte Waschstelle. Hier zweigt links ein kleiner Weg ab, der zunächst an Gemüse- und Weinfeldern entlang und später durch dichten Wald den Berg hinauf führt. Der überwiegend steile und felsige Weg ist mit rot-weißen Markierungen und blauen Pfeilen gekennzeichnet. Der Fußmarsch bis zur Einsiedelei dauert etwa 45 Minuten.

The hermitage of San Valentino in Gargnano

The municipality of Gargnano on the western shore of Lake Garda consists of 13 small towns that lie between cedars, cypresses and lemon trees, up on a hill. Gargnano is the main village and is situated on the lake.

It has a picturesque harbor, winding streets and is surrounded by magnificent villas and palaces. From here a beautiful panoramic mountain road leads up to the Valvestino reservoir. On the road to it there is the little village of Sasso, which is also part of the Gargnano municipality. Here begins a path that leads to a small jewel of Lake Garda's sights: an almost 400 years-old, whitewashed chapel which at a height of 770 meters is nestled on an overhanging rock.

According to tradition it was built in 1630 as a refuge for the survivors of the plague. In the 19th century the hermit Jeremiah Paladine retired there for many years, extended and decorated it with a portrait that is still preserved. The small hermitage with its tiny rooms, quaint chapel, a fireplace and a natural cistern is because of its intimacy, unique location and stunning views a place of fascinating beauty. You reach it from Sasso parking at the beginning of the town. From there you cross the village on foot. At the town’s end there is an old covered washing place. Here you turn left on a small road that leads first along vegetable gardens and vineyard, later it goes through a dense forest up to the mountain.

The steep and rocky trail is marked with red and white colors and blue arrows.

The walk to the hermitage takes about 45 minutes.

Internationales StraßenspielFestival in Verona

Tocatì – Du bist dran – so der Name des 9. Internationalen Straßenspiel-Festivals, das Verona vom 23. bis 25 September 2011 zur Hauptstadt des traditionellen freien Spieles macht. Drei Tage lang ist Veronas Altstadt für Autos gesperrt und Plätze, Gassen und Straßen werden zu einer 200.000 qm großen Spielfläche für Klein und Groß, auf der es über 50 verschiedene Straßenspiele kennenzulernen und auszuprobieren gibt. Die von der Associazione Giochi Antichi organisierte Veranstaltung hat es sich zum Ziel gemacht, Spielideen vergangener Generationen in die Gegenwart zu retten.

Und so wird dieses Jahr anlässlich Tocatì auch der erste Weltkongress der ITSGA (International Traditional Sports and Games Association) abgehalten. In diesem Zusammenhang haben die Veranstalter von der bewährten Formel der Vorjahre, jeweils ein Gastland mit seinem kompletten Spielfundus einzuladen, Abstand genommen. Tocatì 2011 wird durch ausgewählte Straßenspiele aus der ganzen Welt bereichert werden. Gruppen aus Taiwan, dem Kongo, Mexiko, Brasilien, Portugal und Schweden werden dem Publikum das spektakulärste Spiel ihres Landes vorstellen. Italien selbst ist mit Spielen aus allen Regionen des Landes vertreten – eine Selbstverständlichkeit im Jahr der 150-jährigen Einheit.

Der Hof des Mercato Vecchio wird während der Veranstaltung zum Forum der Spielkultur. Hier trifft man auf zahlreiche Straßenspiel-Vereinigungen, Spieler, Autoren von Büchern zum Thema sowie Sammlungsstücke aus verschiedenen Ethnografischen Museen Italiens. Ein Bereich der Piazza Nogara ist Vereinigungen und Institutionen gewidmet, für die Spielen der Beruf ist, wie (Museums-) Pädagogen, Animateure oder Betreuer mobiler Spielangebote. Hier gibt es an allen drei Tagen zahlreiche interessante Workshops für Kinder. Und die Piazza

dei Signori verwandelt sich in den „Platz der Welt” mit Vorführungen, Ausstellungen, Kunsthandwerk und kulinarischen Köstlichkeiten aus verschiedensten Ländern. Tocatì – It's your turn – that is the name of the 9th International Street Games Festival, which makes Verona from 23 to 25 September 2011 to the capital of free traditional games. For three days in Verona there is no thoroughfare, and

old squares, alleys and streets become a 200,000 square metre big playing area for young and old, where you can explore and try more than 50 different street games. The event is organized by the Associazione Giochi Antichi and its goal is to save ideas for games of past generations into the present.

On the occasion of the festival this year there will be also the first World Congress of ITSGA (International Traditional Sports and Games Association). In this context the organizers will give up the concept of the previous festivals, where they have invited a guest country with all its traditional games. Tocatì 2011 has a rich program with selected street games coming from around the world. Groups from Taiwan, Congo, Mexico, Brazil, Portugal and Sweden will present to the audience the most spectacular games of their country. Italy itself is represented with games from all regions of the country – this is a matter of course in the 150th anniversary of its unification.

The courtyard of Mercato Vecchio is during the event the ideal place as it represents also the forum of games. Here you can meet numerous street games associations, players, authors of books about the subject as well as collection pieces from different ethnographic museums in Italy. One area of Piazza Nogara is dedicated to professionals of associations and institutions involved with games, such as (museum) educators, entertainers or personnel assistant mobile games. Here children find on all three days a lot of interesting workshops and Piazza dei Signori is transformed into the „square of the world” presenting performances, exhibitions, handicrafts and culinary delights from different countries. George Michale wurde am 25. Juni 1963 in London geboren. Als Komponist, Produzent und Songwriter zählt er seit mehreren Jahrzehnten zur absoluten Spitze der Pop-Musik.

Bekanntheit erlangte er Anfang der 80er Jahre als Teil des Popduos „Wham!”. Nach fünf Jahren Konzertpause ist George Michael seit August wieder auf großer Europa-Tournee, die ihn am 13. und 14. September auch in die Arena von Verona führt. Dabei lässt er sich, wie vor ihm auch Sting oder Peter Gabriel, von einem Symphonie-Orchester begleiten. Und so verspricht „Symphonica - The Orchestral Tour” ein völlig neues Hörerlebnis

Große Reismesse in Isola della Scala

Ein Ausflug ins Bassa Veronese, dem flachen Landstrich südlich von Verona, lohnt sich für Reis-Liebhaber zwischen dem 14. September und 9. Oktober 2011. Dann wird in dem 11.000 Einwohner- Städtchen Isola della Scala die Reismesse „Fiera del Riso” veranstaltet. Und das bedeutet gut drei Wochen lang Reisspezialitäten vom Allerfeinsten. Die Messe, die im letzten Jahr gut 600.000 Besucher anzog, wird in Italien aufgrund ihrer Popularität gerne „Reis-Oktoberfest” genannt. Sie ist einerseits eine klassische Messe, auf der 150 Aussteller ihre Produkte präsentieren und Kongresse rund um den Reis veranstaltet werden. Andererseits ist sie ein riesiger gastronomischer Event, während dessen letzter Ausgabe mehr als 400.000 Reisgerichte serviert wurden – überwiegend das „Risotto all’isolana”, das klassische Rezept des Ortes Isola della Scala, aber auch andere Risotti und alternative Reisspezialitäten. Darüberhinaus erwartet die Besucher ein höchst abwechslungsreiches Rahmenprogramm

aus Sport, Kunst und Kultur sowie Führungen durch das Reisanbaugebiet rund um Isola della Scala. Das Städtchen ist nämlich das Zentrum des weitläufigen Anbaugebietes, aus dem die bekannte Reissorte Nano Vialone Veronese I.G.P. stammt – ein großartiger Risotto-Reis und der eigentliche Protagonist der „Fiera del Riso”. Um zu wachsen, braucht Reis viel frisches, sauerstoffreiches Wasser und das gibt es rund um Isola della Scala zur Genüge. Unterirdisch fließt das Wasser aus dem Alpen- und Voralpengebiet Italiens bis in die Ebene des Bassa Veronese und kommt hier in zahlreichen Quellen und mit immer gleicher Temperatur an die Oberfläche. In Bächen und Kanalsystemen wird es dann über die weitläufigen Reisfelder geleitet. So kann der Reis von April bis Anfang September gedeihen. Dann wird das Wasser abgelassen und die Ernte beginnt. Und nach getaner Arbeit wird drei Wochen lang ausgiebig gefeiert.

For rice-lovers it is worth making a trip from 14 September to 9 October to the Bassa Veronese, the flat stretch of land south of Verona. The „Fiera del Riso” takes place in the town of Isola della Scala and means for its 11.000 inhabitants and its very numerous visitors – last year they were about 600.000 – three weeks of excellent rice dishes. Because of its popularity in Italy it is often called the „Rice Oktoberfest”. On the one hand it is a classic fair with 150 exhibitors presenting their products and a lot of conferences about rice. On the other hand it is a great gastronomic event, where during the last edition more than 400.000 plates of rice were served. The main rice recipe is here the „risotto all'isolana”, the classic rice dish of Isola della Scala, but there are also other risottos and rice specialities. In addition, visitors can expect a richly varied program of sport activities, art and culture, as well as tours around the rice-producing town of Isola della Scala. The town is in fact the center of the vast rice-growing region from which the famous quality Vialone Nano Veronese IGP comes – it is a great risotto rice and the real protagonist of the „Fiera del Riso”. In order to grow rice needs a lot of fresh, oxygen-rich water and around Isola della Scala there is enough for it.

Subterranean water flows from the Italian Alps and Pre-Alps to the Bassa Veronese and here it comes out in many springs and always with the same temperature. Then the water is canalized through streams and channel systems into the great rice fields. From April to the beginning of September the rice grows, then the fields will be drained and harvest can start. And after the work is done, there is a three weeks long festival. On 18 September the Club di Giulietta invites lovers from around the world in the historic center of Verona in order to celebrate the birthday of Juliet, Shakespeare's unforgettable heroine. The event starts at 10.00 o'clock. The medieval Cortile Mercato Vecchio, costumed characters from the days of Romeo and Juliet, the „Mercato di Giulietta” with Juliet's souvenirs and artistic handicrafts as well as a small painting exhibition will give to the event the

right atmosphere. The highlight of the festival is a kind of treasure hunt, the socalled „Caccia al Nido d'Amore”, which is undoubtedly about the beautiful Juliet Capuleti and Verona. Anders als die Unlike the others – anderen – Die Villa The Villa della della Torre in Fumane Torre in Fumane

Wie eine kleine Festung thront sie auf einem Hügel in unmittelbarer Nähe des historischen Ortskerns von Fumane, einer 4.000 Einwohner-Gemeinde in der Valpolicella. Die im Jahr 1562 fertiggestellte Villa della Torre ist eine Besonderheit unter den historischen Villen des Veneto. Nach dem Vorbild alter Patrizierhäuser der römischen Epoche gebaut, verfügt sie über wunderschöne Säulengänge, Arkaden und einen großen Brunnen. Anders als die übrigen Villen der Valpolicella jener Zeit, wurde sie nicht als Verwaltungssitz eines Weingutes, sondern als Treffpunkt und Ort des geistigen Friedens für Intellektuelle und Aristokraten errichtet. Ihre Entstehung verdankt sie der Idee Giulio Della Torres, der sich bei der Realisierung von zwei großartigen Architekten unterstützen lies: Giulio Romano, der auch den Palazzo Te in Mantova entworfen hat, und Michele Sanmicheli, einer der bedeutendsten Vertreter des Manierismus in der Republik Venedig.

Seit mittlerweile drei Jahren gehört die Villa della Torre, die in Fumane seit jeher „el palasso” – der Palast - genannt wird, der Familie Allegrini, erfolgreiche Weinproduzenten seit Generationen und schon lange im Besitz der Weinberge rund um die Villa. Für die Familie Allegrini erfüllte sich so ein Traum. Ein Traum, an dem sie die Menschen in Fumane und auch sonst überall, gerne teilhaben lässt. Und so steht die Villa della Torre für kulturelle Veranstaltungen, Hochzeiten und andere private Feiern, Weinproben und natürlich auch interessante Führungen offen. Letztere werden für mindestens 4 Personen nach Voranmeldung dienstags bis frei-

Like a small fortress the villa near the town's centre of Fumane towers from a hill. The community has 4.000 inhabitants and lies in the Valpolicella. Completed in 1562 Villa della Torre holds among all historical villas in Veneto a special position. It was built following the example of patrician Roman houses and has beautiful colonnades, arcades and a great fountain. Unlike the other villas built in that time in the Valpolicella, it was not an administrative seat of a winery. The villa was constructed as a meeting place of spiritual peace for intellectuals and aristocrats. It owes its origin to the idea of Giulio Della Torre, who was helped in the realization by the architect Giulio Romano and Michele Sanmicheli. The first one has also designed the Palazzo Te in Mantova, the second was a leading representative of Mannerism in the period of the Republic of Venice.

Since 2009 Villa della Torre, which is always called in Fumane „el palasso" - the palace - belongs to the Allegrini family. The Allegrini are successful wine producers since generations and the vineyards surrounding the Villa are in their possession since long time. To own the villa was for the family a fulfillment of a dream, that the Allegrini wants to share with other peolple. And so Villa della Torre is open for cultural events, weddings and other private parties, wine tastings and interesting tours.

Ein Weinfest mit Kultstatus ist das „Festa dell’uva e del vino” in Bardolino, das dieses Jahr vom 29. September bis 3. Oktober Besucherscharen von überall her an den südöstlichen Gardasee lockt. Fünf Tage lang präsentieren die Bardolino-Winzer ihre Erzeugnisse entlang der Uferpromenade, es gibt kulinarische Leckereien und ein abwechslungsreiches Unterhaltungsprogramm. Abends werden Konzerte veranstaltet, es stehen Theatervorführungen, Spielangebote sowie Umzüge von Folklore- und Musikgruppen auf dem Programm.

A wine festival with cult status is the „Festa dell'uva e del vino” in Bardolino, which this year takes place from 29 September to 3 October. Hordes of visitors from everywhere are expected to arrive at the southeastern part of Lake Garda. For five days the Bardolino wineries will present their wines along the waterfront, there are culinary delicacies, and a varied entertainment program. In the evening concerts are held, there are theatre performances, games and parades of

folklore and music groups. The „Festa dell'uva e del vino” is also the occasion of awarding the best Bardolino wine and there are interesting conferences for wine professionals. Größtenteils direkt am See entlang führt die reizvolle Strecke des Internationalen Lake Garda Marathons, der am 9. Oktober 2000 Teilnehmer aus 32 Nationen an den nördlichen Gardasee kommen lässt. Vom Start in Limone sul Garda geht es für die Läufer auf 42,195 Kilometern über Riva, Arco und Torbole nach Malcesine. Rund 60.000 Zuschauer werden erwartungsgemäß die Strecke säumen. Seit seiner – bereits sehr erfolgreichen – ersten Ausgabe im Jahr 2007 findet der Lake Garda Marathon Jahr für Jahr mehr Zuspruch und wurde bereits mehrfach ausgezeichnet. Dank der Initiative der Gemeinde Malcesine umfasst die Veranstaltung mit dem „Diversamente Maratona del Garda” seit zwei Jahren auch einen Marathon für körperbehinderte Teilnehmer. In diesem Jahr wird sie außerdem um einen Lauf für jedermann ergänzt. Singvogel-Wettbewerb, große ornithologische Ausstellung, Verkaufsausstellung von Jagd- und Landwirtschaftszubehör, Musik, Unterhaltung, Kinderkarussells – das und noch viel mehr erwartet die Besucher der „Sagra dei Osei” vom 7. bis 12. September 2011 rund um den Lido von Cisano di Bardolino. So lange man zurückdenken kann wird in Cisano am 8. September, dem Tag der Geburt Marias, ein großes Vogel- und Jagdfest gefeiert, das früher Jäger und Landwirte aus dem gesamten Veneto in das kleine Örtchen am südöstlichen Gardasee kommen lies. Mit dem Singvogelwettbewerb, der so genannten „Gara delle Primavere”, findet an diesem Tag bis heute der Höhepunkt des Festes statt. Amseln, Sing- und Rotdrosseln, Lerchen, Finken, Baumpieper und Stieglitze erfüllen morgens ab 6.30 Uhr den Park der Villa Marzan mit wunderschönem Gesang. Die Preisverleihung findet um 10.50 Uhr im Festzelt am Seeufer statt. Direkt im Anschluss folgt dort ein großer Vogelstimmenwettbewerb.

Everybody knows that in Cisano on 8 September, the day of Mary's birth, there is the great bird and hunting festival, that in the past attracted hunters and farmers from all over the Veneto to come to the little town situated in the southeast of the lake.

The songbird contest, the so-called „Gara delle Primavere”, takes place as ever on this day and represents the highlight of the festival. Starting at 6.30 o'clock in the morning the park of Villa Marzan is filled with the nice sounds of blackbirds, song thrushes and redwings, larks, finches, tree pipits and goldfinches. The prizegiving ceremony is at 10.50 o'clock in the great festival tend in front of the lake. Immediately after there is a big bird calling contest. With or without bird whistles experts mimic in an almost identical way the call of various songbirds. Prizes will begiven at 12.15 o'clock. In the evening typical local dishes are served in the tent and on 12 September at 23.00 o'clock a great fireworks spectacle will conclude the „Sagra dei Osei” festival. Eine Entdeckungsreise durch die Welt der Genüsse erwartet die Besucher am 1. und 2. Oktober in Malcesine. Die Teilnehmer entdecken in den Kursen ihren eigenen Ausdrucksstil, denn „wenn es ihre Worte sind, kann es leichter ihre Sprache werden” (Bernard Dufeu). Außerdem fördert die PDL auch die Fertigkeiten, die für schnelle, nachhaltige Lernfortschritte wichtig sind und eine effektive Kommunikation ermöglichen.

Auch Anfängern gelingt in Ihren PDL-Kursen der unmittelbare Einstieg in die gesprochene Sprache. Sie sind bereits nach einer Woche acontatto in der Lage, auf Italienisch zu kommunizieren. Wie ist das möglich?

Even beginners succeed with your PDL courses in getting immediately into the spoken language. Just after one week at acontatto people are able to communicate in Italian. How is that possible?

PDL allows even with very few language skills to communicate in a natural and correct way. This shows that not only the quantity and the pure meaning of words are important when we speak. Communication is more, it also includes body language, by a slight change of the voice it can be more understandable and can convey messages more quickly and clearly, etc. We create an atmosphere that allows mistakes and encourages to experiment with the first learned words.

How big are the learning groups? Are there also one-to-one lessons?

Our groups are small and formed by 5-10 participants. However, single and tandem classes are very popular teaching modules.

To learn with you is like beeing on holiday, that is the feedback you get of the course's participants.

How do you manage this?

Learning does not necessarily coincide with effort or performance, it can also mean relaxation. Through the exercises our participants make in the PDL classes, they often forget that they are learning Italian. They have the feeling to relax and immerse themselves in another world. This is possible, because we respect the individuality and the learning rhythm of each participant. No learning pressure rises, on the contrary, there is a relaxed atmosphere without competition.

Der 24. Cat Ora Cup in Riva del Garda

Am Wochenende des 1. und 2. Oktobers organisiert die Ortsgruppe Riva del Garda der Lega Navale Italiana die 24. Ausgabe des Cat Ora Cups. Es ist eine Regatta für Mehrrumpfboote von 16, 18, 21 und über 21 Fuß. Gestartet wird am „Spiaggia Sabbioni“, zu dem man über die viale Rovereto und die via Rainer Maria Rilke, gelangt. Von dort aus drehen die Boote für jeweils 3 Stunden pro Tag ihre Runden. Die anschließende Klassifizierung der Teams erfolgt anhand der zurückgelegten Runden und der Zeit, die benötigt wurde, um das Ziel zu erreichen.

Die Ortsgruppe Riva del Garda ist aus dem 1979 gegründeten Segelverein Associazione Nautica S. Nicolò entstanden, einer Gruppe Segelbegeisterter, die ihre Boote in Rivas Hafen S. Nicolò liegen hatten. Seit 1986 ist sie Teil der Lega Navale Italiana und organisierte zunächst kleine soziale Regatten ohne Wettkampfcharakter, die überwiegend zwischen zwischen Riva del Garda und der Isola di Sogno, einer kleinen Insel vor Malcesine, ausgetragen wurden. Die erste große Regatta wurde 1987mit der 1. Europameisterschaft der neuen Bootsklasse Hobie Cat 17 ausgerichtet. Dafür wurden die Boote direkt von der Werft in Tolone nach Riva gebracht und dort den Teilnehmern zur Verfügung gestellt. Das war der Beginn einer bis heute anhaltenden Serie bedeutender Regatten im Segler-Paradies nördlicher Gardasee – ein in der ganzen Segelwelt hochgeschätztes Revier. On the first weekend, 1 and 2 October, the local branch of the Lega Navale Italiana in Riva del Garda organizes the 24th edition of Cat Ora Cup. It is a regatta for multihulls measuring 16, 18, 21 and more feets. Starting point is at „Spiaggia Sabbioni", where you arrive taking viale Rovereto and via Rainer Maria Rilke. From there the boats will sail laps 3 hours per day. The classification of the teams is based on the number of the laps and the time it took to return to „Spiaggia Sabboni”.

The local branch of Riva del Garda has been established in 1979 from the former sailing club Associazione Nautica S. Nicolò, a group of sailing enthusiasts with boats in Riva’s harbor S. Nicolò. In der Schlucht des Etschtals, am Fuße des steilen Monte Baldo-Massives liegt die Gemeinde Avio mit ihrer von Weitem sichtbaren Burg, dem Castello d’Avio. Das Leben des 4000-Einwohner Ortes ist stark vom Weinbau geprägt und so wird hier nach getaner Weinlese vom 2. bis 4. September ein großes Fest gefeiert. „Uva e Dintorni” so der Name der Veranstaltung, bei der die Traditionen der Gemeinde im Mittelpunkt stehen und die im jährlichen Wechsel in Avio und in Sabbionara d'Avio stattfindet. Auf einem kulinarischen Rundgang durch das historische Ortszentrum – in diesem Jahr von Sabbionara d'Avio – kann man die typischen Produkte der Gegend kennenlernen. Wer mehr über den Wein aus Avio erfahren möchte, für den stehen geführte Spaziergänge durch die Weinberge auf dem Festprogramm. In den malerischen Gassen, auf den Höfen und Plätzen des Ortes herrscht an den Festtagen mittelalterliches Treiben. Es sind Marktstände aufgebaut, Mehl

The life of its 4000-inhabitants is conditioned a lot by the wine and so, after the wine harvest, there is a big festival from 2 to 4 September. „Uva e Dintorni” is the name of the event, which is focused on the village’s traditions. It is held annually and takes place alternately in Avio and Sabbionara d'Avio.

This year it is the turn of Sabbionara d'Avio and you can go on a culinary tour through the historic center, getting to know the typical products of the territory. Who wants to find out more about the wine in Avio can join the guided walks through the vineyards. In the picturesque streets, the courtyards and on the squares of the town there is a marvelous atmosphere of the Middle Ages. You see market stalls, flour is grinded, artisans show their way of working, women sew and children play. For a weekend in Sabbionara d'Avio there is true medieval everyday life. And of course there is the right music and entertainment. Another important event of „Uva e Dintorni” is the so-called „Palio della botte", a medieval competition which takes place in several wine-growing locations. 15 teams from all over Italy come to Avio in order to compete in four disciplines: wine barrel rolling, slalom, barefoot grape mashing and bottle-filling – an amusing spectacle. Wein, Kunst und Kultur – Das Festival „Franciacorta in Cantina”

Im Herzen der Lombardei, nur wenige Kilometer westlich von Brescia und einen Katzensprung vom Iseosee entfernt, liegt die Weinbauregion Franciacorta. Dieses malerische Fleckchen Lombardei ist weit über Italien hinaus für seinen Wein mit Flaschengärung berühmt, besticht aber auch durch herrliche Natur, Geschichte und Tradition. Hier findet am 17. und 18. September das Festival „Franciacorta in Cantina” statt. Ein Wochenende lang kann man in 50 Weingütern nicht nur den köstlichen Wein der Gegend kennenlernen, sondern auch an zahlreichen interessanten Initiativen teilnehmen. Kunst, Genuss, Musik und Emotion sind die vier Themen des Festivals, die jedes Weingut individuell ausgestaltet. So entsteht ein abwechslungsreiches Programm, bei dem sicher für jeden Geschmack etwas dabei ist. Informative Führungen und Weinproben werden von allen teilnehmenden Weingütern angeboten. Auf zahlreichen geführten Touren können die Besucher den malerischen Landstrich außerdem zu Fuß, mit dem Mountainbike oder per Bus erkunden. Dabei gibt es Klöster und Einsiedeleien, historische Anwesen und Villen, Weinberge von perfekter Geometrie sowie Ecken intakter, unberührter Natur zu entdecken. Und unterwegs wird natürlich in mindestens einem Weingut pausiert.

Wer es lieber etwas ruhiger mag, für den gibt es entspannte Bootstouren auf dem Iseosee – begleitet von einem Gläschen Franciacorta-Aperitif.

In the heart of Lombardy, some miles west of Brescia and a stone’s throw from Lake Iseo, there is the wine region of Franciacorta. This picturesque corner of Lombardy is famous far beyond Italy for the wine and its bottle fermentation, but it impresses also for its magnificent nature, history and tradition. Here the festival „Franciacorta in Cantina” takes place on 17 and 18 September.

For a whole weekend you can visit 50 wineries and taste the delicious wine of the region. Furthermore it is possible to participate in many interesting initiatives. Art, pleasure, music and emotion are the themes of the festival, which each winery elaborates in its own way. The result is a varied program, in which you certainly find something to your taste.

Informative tours and wine tastings are offered by all participating wineries. In some places visitors can enjoy delicious menus combined perfectly with the Franciacorta wine or can taste different local specialties. In other wineries there are theatre performances, readings and concerts, ranging from classic to modern art. In many wineries the festival program proposes art exhibitions, while others propose innovative sensory tours in order to approach the Franciacorta wine in an unusual way. And there are also many wineries where kids can participate in little workshops or games. „Franciacorta in Cantina” is worth seeing not only for its cellars and wines, it is also very inter-

esting for the winery’s history and architecture. On many guided tours visitors can discover the picturesque stretch of land on foot, by mountain bike or by bus, exploring abbeys and hermitages, historic estates and villas, vineyards with perfect geometry as well as intact and unspoiled corners of nature.

And of course, during the trips you stop at least at one winery. Who wants to be in an even quieter place can make a relaxing boat trip on Lake Iseo – accompanied by a glass of Franciacorta as aperitif.

Das Downhill- und Freeride-Festival King of Baldo

Nach dem Erfolg des Vorjahres veranstaltet der gemeinnützige Verein Alto Garda Bike Area am 17. und 18. September die zweite Auflage des King of Baldo DH/FR Festivals. Das Festival ist keine Wettkampfveranstaltung, sondern es geht ausschließlich um Spaß, Sport und Zusammensein im Bikerparadies nördlicher Gardasee / Monte Baldo. Basislager der Veranstaltung ist die phantastische Location „Colonia Pavese” in Torbole. Dort findet die Registrierung der teilnehmenden Biker statt, von dort starten die Shuttle-Busse zu den verschiedenen Trails und auch die Stände der Sponsoren sind dort untergebracht. Auf dem Festivalgelände wird außerdem für das leibliche Wohl gesorgt, und am Samstagabend findet hier die große Bikerparty mit Konzert statt.

Die Teilnehmerzahl ist aus organisatorischen Gründen auf 80 Rider begrenzt.

Eine Teilnahmebestätigung erfolgt nach Bezahlung der Teilnahmegebühr mittels Pay-Pal oder Kreditkarte auf der Internetseite www.altogardabikearea.com. Die Teilnahme für einen Tag kostet 30, für zwei Tage 50 Euro. The Downhill and Freeride Festival King of Baldo

After last year's success the non-profit organization Alto Garda Bike is setting up on 17 and 18 September the second edition of the King of Baldo DH/FR Festival. The event has not a competitive character, it is all about fun, doing sports, and the sense of togetherness in the biker’s paradise lying in the north of Lake Garda / Monte Baldo. Base Camp of the event is the fantastic location „Colonia Pavese” in Torbole. There the participating cyclists enter their names and can take the shuttle busses to the various trails. At the same point are located also the sponsor's stands and it is possible to have something to eat and to drink. On Saturday evening there is a big biker party with concert. The number of participants is limited for organizational reasons to 80 bikers. Those taking part at the festival have to pay the admission fee via Pay Pal or credit card on the website www.altogardabikearea.com. After the payment the participants will get a confirmation. One day participation costs 30 Euro, 50 Euro you have to pay for two days. The registered bikers benefits of the festival services and have also a discounted admission to the Adventure Park Busatte in Torbole. Special rates are also available for overnight stays at some campsites, in resorts or hotels that you will know by the organizer Alto Garda Bike Area.

Vom 15. bis 18. September findet in Torbole die 41. Tornado Torbole Trophy statt. Sie gehört zu den bedeutendsten Regatten, die der Segelclub Circolo Vela Torbole ausrichtet, und stellt für den Verein eine lange prestigereiche Tradition dar. Der Tornado gehört zur bisher schnellsten internationalen Segelklasse der Katamarane und wurde im Jahr 1967 vom Engländer Rodney March entwickelt. Von 1976 bis 2008 war er Teil der olympischen Bootsklassen, im November 2007 entschied sich die ISAF allerdings gegen einen Tornado-Wettbewerb bei den Olympischen Spielen 2012. Der Tornado ist aufgrund seiner Bauweise eines der schnellsten Segelboote, die in Serie produziert werden, und

In Torbole takes place from 15 to 18 September the 41st Tornado Torbole Trophy. It is one of the most important regattas that the sailing club Circolo Vela Torbole organizes and represents for the club a long and prestigious tradition. Internationally the Tornado is at the moment the fastest sailing catamaran class. Developed in 1967 by the Englishman Rodney March the catamaran was part from 1976 to 2008 of the Olympic boat classes. But in November 2007 the ISAF decided not to include a Tornado competition for the Olympic Games of 2012. The tornado is thanks to its construction method one of the fastest sailing boats. It is massproduced and can sail at 30 knots, corresponding to 56 km/hr. Like all catamarans tornados are sailed only on one hull, and therefore they have less water resistance. In addition, catamarans have a bigger sailing area than monohulls and are capable of absorbing a greater wind pressure. On the occasion of next year's Tornado Torbole Trophy also the Tornado World Championship will be held in Torbole. Junior-Freeclimbing-Talente aus ganz Europa treffen sich am 1. und 2. Oktober 2011 im Weltmeisterschafts-Kletterstadion in Arco.

Rock Junior heißt die Veranstaltung, die in diesem Jahr ihr 10-jähriges Bestehen feiert und an der etliche der heutigen Freeclimbing-Größen bereist als Juniors teilgenommen haben. Beim Under 14 Cup treten die Champions von morgen in verschiedenen Disziplinen gegeneinander an – und das an denselben Wänden, an denen wenige Monate zuvor die Freeclimbig-Weltmeisterschaften ausgetragen wurden. Doch Rock Junior ist deutlich mehr als eine Wettkampfveranstaltung, Rock Junior ist Klettern, Spaß und Spiel. Auf die 5- bis 13-jährigen Teilnehmer und deren Familien wartet im Kletterstadion von Arco ein abwechslungsreiches Programm.

Beim Kid’s Rock messen sich die Kinder in vier verschiedenen Altersklassen in Geschicklichkeit und Schnelligkeit. Dabei wird zum Beispiel mit verbundenen Augen oder ohne Zuhilfenahme der Hände geklettert. Ein spaßiger Schnelligkeitswettkampf für Eltern und Kinder ist der Familiy Rock, bei dem jeweils zwei Eltern-Kind-Paare an den Wänden des Kletterstadions um die Wette klettern. Ein Teil des Stadions wird außerdem zum Fun Climbing-Park umfunktioniert. Hier kann man aufblasbare Berge erklimmen, über Seilbrücken balancieren, an Netzen klettern und sogar am Seil den Fluss Sarca überqueren. Außerhalb des Stadions lädt der Climbing Campus zu einem interessanten Kletterlehrpfad in den Kalksteinfelsen des Monte Colodri

Junior free climbing talents from around Europe will meet on 1 and 2 October 2011 in the world championship climbing stadium of Arco. Rock Junior is the name of the event and takes place this year for the 10th time. In the past it has shown junior climbers that currently belong to the top ranking. At the Under 14 Cup the future champions will compete in different disciplines at the same walls on which some months ago the Freeclimbing World Championships were held.

But Rock Junior is much more than a competitive contest, Rock Junior is about climbing, fun and games. 5 to 13 years old children and their families will have a varied program in the Arco Climbing Stadium. At the Kid's Rock the children of four different age classes show their climbing skills and speed. Sometimes they even have to climb blindfold or without using the hands. A fun speed contest for parents and children is the Familiy Rock: at the walls of the climbing stadium two parent-child pairs will compete reaching the top in the fastest way. Part of the stadium will also be converted into a fun climbing park. Here you can climb inflatable mountains, nets, balance on rope bridges and even cross the Sarca river by rope. Outside the stadium the climbing campus invites children to an interesting training trip on the limestone cliffs of Monte Colodri. Der Gardasee ist der größte See Italiens, der größte der Oberitalienischen Seen. Der Gardasee wurde durch den Etschgletscher in der vergangenen Eiszeit geformt, dessen Spuren man noch heute verfolgen kann. Zwischen den Alpen und der Poebene liegt der Gardasee im Norden in der Region TrentinoSüdtirol, im Westen in der Lombardei, im Osten in Venetien. Damit teilen sich die drei Provinzen Trento (Norden), Verona (Osten) und Brescia (Westen) die Verwaltung. Während das nördliche Ufer des Sees von Zweitausendern der Gardaseeberge wie z. B. dem Monte Baldo umsäumt ist, liegt das südliche Ufer bereits in der Ebene. Das Klima ist aufgrund der Lage sub-mediterran mit heißen Sommern und niederschlagsarmen, milden Wintern. Die Jahresdurchschnittstemperatur liegt zwischen 13 und 15° C. Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy. Glaciers formed this alpine region at the end of the last ice age. The lake and its shoreline are divided between the provinces of Verona (southeast), Brescia (southwest), and Trento (north). Being easily accessible from the north via the Brenner Pass, the lake is a major tourist destination, including a number of exclusive hotels and resorts along its shore. The northern part of the lake is narrower, surrounded by mountains, the majority of which belong to the Mount Baldo chain. The shape is typical of a moraine valley, probably having been formed under the action of a Palaeolithic glacier. The climate is sub-Mediterranean with hot summers and low rainfall, mild winters. The annual average temperature is 13-15° C.
