Glass half full – half marathon local challenge By Sonia Clark Glass House Mountains local Rohan Briggs has set himself a unique charity challenge to run up and down Mount Ngungun ten times in five hours to help raise funds and awareness for GPAI – Golf Programs Australia Inc – on Sunday, October 6. An umpiring development coordinator for AFL Queensland, Rohan is also a keen local golfer and committee member of the charity that raises funds to develop and deliver speciality golf and social enterprise opportunities for those with an intellectual or physical disability, the isolated, youth at risk and others. Rohan says the charity seeks to change lives and break down social isolation by promoting opportunities and initiatives that promote inclusion. “GPAI will support the run, which I’m calling the glass half full – half marathon. They will have a marquee set up at the base of the mountain with information about what the charity is about and I’ll have a friend helping on the day to cook up a barbeque if people would like to make a donation to GPAI,” Rohan said. The event will take place between 6am and 11am. As well as this charity challenge, Rohan has also set himself a motivational challenge to complete a physically inspired activity 100 times this year. He has committed to running a 6km round trip
challenge up Mount Ngungun from his home and back, and to date has completed the circuit 58 times – which is not bad considering the track was closed for a number of months this year. “My fitness has certainly improved heaps since I first started,” Rohan said. At first it would take me over 50 minutes to complete the circuit from home but now I can do it in about 36 minutes.” Every time Rohan completes one of his 100 challenge he puts a gold coin into a jar and at the end of the year he will also donate that money to GPAI. “It’s a really great way to challenge yourself and to also help others by raising money for a charity of your choice and anyone can do it. “Just pick a physical activity, set yourself the goal that you’ll do it 100 times throughout the year and every time you do it put a dollar or two into a jar.” To find out more about Rohan’s challenge you can follow him on Instagram @challenge100x. He has also set up an online fundraising account in www.everydayhero.com/au for GPAI link https://asf.org.au/projects/gpai/rohan-briggs-glasshalf-full-half-marathon
