Glen Echo Park

A Note From the Partnership Dear Friends, Welcome to our Winter 2021-22 digital catalog. Winter is the perfect season to get creative! Sign up for one of our holiday workshops (pages 8, 9, 20) or take a class in a new art form. Many of our classes are back in person, but we still have some virtual classes for those who are more comfortable continuing with online activities. For restless kids during the winter, we offer so many options! Washington Conservatory of Music’s Musical Imagination Station, Young Yukes, and private music lessons will bring out the musician in any child (page 13). A sampling of other classes for kids includes: Animal Art and Poetry workshop (page 9); Making a Valentine’s Box, a parent/child workshop (page 8); and Traditional Irish dance classes for students starting at age 5 (page 10). Social dances have returned in-person and continue through the winter in the Spanish Ballroom, Bumper Car Pavilion, and Ballroom Back Room. Dance styles that are back include swing, waltz, tango, and more. To see what’s coming up check out our calendar. To find unique gifts for everyone on your holiday shopping list, visit our annual Holiday Art Show & Sale in the Popcorn Gallery and Stone Tower Gallery. Paintings, photographs, pottery, hand-made jewelry, ornaments, and more will entice you to shop – supporting the Park and local artists is a bonus! Other visual arts studios and galleries in the Park will also offer creative gift options. Stop by the Stone Tower Studio to see artists in action who bridge the representational and abstract approaches to artmaking (page 64). Our award-winning children’s theaters welcomed audiences back in the fall, and their programming continues with winter productions that include the Puppet Co.’s Hershel and the Hanukkah Goblins from November 17, 2021– January 2, 2022 and perennial holiday favorite The Nutcracker celebrating its 32nd Anniversary from November 26, 2021-January 2, 2022 (page 15), and Adventure Theatre MTC’s Adventure’s Winterfest from November 18, 2021– January 2, 2022 is a world premiere of three short plays showcasing the work of three local writers giving their take on holiday magic as we celebrate the season of family, friendship, and winter fun (page 16). During this recovery period we continue to move into more normal operations, but the health and safety of our staff, instructors, partners, and patrons is still a top priority. We will always follow Montgomery County mask and social distancing requirements when they are in place, and many programs within the Park have their own Covid-19 guidelines in place as well. You can find mask and vaccination information on our Coronavirus Updates page. As a nonprofit organization, we still face difficult losses from the pandemic, and we greatly appreciate the financial support of the community. Please continue to support the Park with your contributions! If you can give, a donation at any level will help sustain the park and lead us into the future. It’s easy and quick to give online or text to give (Text “gepgive” to 202-858-1233). We hope you will continue your creative learning with us on site or online this winter and that you will #stayconnected! Stay well and creative,

Katey Boerner, Executive Director
