The Königsallee shopping street in the heart of Düsseldorf is home to some of the world’s top brands. William Lee Adams takes a tour of King’s Avenue
D
üsseldorf has long been regarded as one of the most fashionable cities in Germany and its well-heeled residents are renowned for their discerning taste. With more than 800 designer showrooms, Düsseldorf regularly hosts leading buyers from the country’s top department stores and retailers, who set the trends for the next season. For members of the fashion set, the stunning Königsallee shopping street is, without question, one of the top places to see and be seen. Königsallee (King’s Avenue) starts at the southern end of the lush Hofgarten park – often called the green lungs of the city – and stretches south for one kilometre. Pristine, elegant landscaping is a feature of this upscale shopping street, which is divided by the 31-metre-long Stadtgraben canal, lined with chestnut trees and boasting two stunning bridges over its calm waters. The setting is undeniably beautiful but the main attraction is definitely the shopping. With over 30 luxury stores, the boulevard has one of the highest concentrations of topflight labels of any single street in Europe. ‘Königsallee is one of the best shopping streets in Germany and only has exclusive shops and luxury brands,’ says Ralph Gierhards, who runs the respected eponymous antiques shop. ‘Königsallee, with its rich tradition and grand heritage, has always been a cosmopolitan meeting point and remains the place to be for
everybody who lives in or visits Düsseldorf,’ explains Cyrus Heydarian, general manager of the famous luxury Breidenbacher Hof hotel. He describes the street as ‘the heart and soul of Düsseldorf,’ and it’s certainly true that the city’s inhabitants feel warm pride towards the street, which they affectionately call the Kö. Along the eastern side of the boulevard there are numerous boutiques and flagship stores, from Italian labels Armani and Gucci to French heavyweights Chanel and Kenzo. The Dior boutique, designed by Raf Simons, resembles a chic Parisian apartment and is filled with mirrored walls and objets d’art. Those in search of German heritage brands should head to Bogner. Founded by Olympic ski jumper Willy Bogner in the 1930s, the sportswear and leather goods label has been at the forefront of its field for many years. With stylish high-performance clothing for every kind of activity, from running to yoga or simply relaxing outside in the warmer weather, the chic Bogner Sport collection will help you make the most of the great outdoors. As well as the world’s leading brands, the Kö is also home to a variety of innovative concept stores. Douglas is a luxury perfumery that features beautiful interior detailing such as oak-panelled furniture and opulent carpets. Customers can sample the latest perfumes at its renowned fragrance bar and those in need of a manicure can visit the nail bar.

Family-owned and operated since 1820, Franzen is a homewares and lifestyle concept store that has been a highlight of the Kö for nearly two centuries. The impressive space features three galleries and offers a vast selection of porcelain, glass, silverware, watches, writing utensils and stationery, all housed beneath a stunning glass dome. According to Joachim von Bandemer, chief concierge at the InterContinental Düsseldorf hotel, visitors who venture slightly off the main thoroughfare will be richly rewarded. ‘The smaller side streets are always good if you are looking to discover new boutiques and young designer labels,’ he says. just off Königsallee, C Wirschke is one such hidden gem. Run by two brothers, the boutique specialises in Italian fashion and feels like a very well-appointed family home. Its range of exclusive, highly-coveted Italian brands includes Antonelli Firenze, Alberto Biani, Anneclaire, Cruciani and Fabiana Filippi. London lingerie specialist Rigby & Peller is another must-visit. Situated on Blumenstrasse, the luxury boutique stocks a wide variety of exquisite swimwear and undergarments. While most shops on and around the Kö follow the latest trends, antiques dealer Ralph Gierhards showcases the past. يض ّم شارع التس ّوق الجميل KÖnigsalleeفي قلب دوسلدورف بعض أفخر العالمات التجاريّة في العالم .يقوم William Lee Adams بجولة في المكان لطالما اعتُبرت دوسلدورف إحدى أكثر المدن مجارا ًة للموضة في ألمانيا ويشتهر سكّانها األثرياء بذوقهم الرفيع .بما أنّها تض ّم ما يزيد عن 800 صالة عرض لمص ّممين مرموقين ،تجذب مسؤولي المشتريات من متاجر البالد الكبرى وأبرز الت ّجار ليبتكروا موضة الموسم المقبل .بالنسبة إلى ر ّواد الموضة ،ل ّ شك أ ّن شارع التس ّوق المذهل KÖnigsalleeهو من ويتقصدون رؤيتها. أكثر األماكن التي يحبّون ّ يمت ّد شارع ( KÖnigsalleeجادّة الملك) من الطرف الجنوبي لمنتزه Hofgartenالخالب الذي غالباً ما يس ّمى رئتي المدينة الخضراوين إلى الجنوب على طول كيلومترٍ .يتميّز هذا الشارع الراقي بمعالمه األصيلة الخالبة ،تقطعه قناة Stadtgrabenالتي يبلغ عرضها 31مترا ً وتنتصب على جانبيها أشجار الكستناء فيما يم ّر جسران رائعان فوق مياهها الهادئة. ل ريب أ ّن الج ّو جميل ،لكن يبقى التس ّوق الجاذب األكبر هنا. يض ّم الشارع ما يزيد عن 30متجرا ً فاخرا ً فيستحيل أكبر حاضن لعالمات الصف األ ّول في أوروبا .يقول Ralph Gierhardsالذي يمتلك متجر ّ األثريّات الذي يحمل إسمه KÖnigsallee “ :هو أحد أفضل شوارع التس ّوق في ألمانيا ول يحوي إل المحالت الستثنائيّة والعالمات الفاخرة”. ويقول ،Cyrus Heydarianمدير عام فندق Breidenbacher Hofالفخم الشهير“ :بفضل تراث KÖnigsallee الغني وإرثه العظيم ،لطالما شكّل نقطة التقا ٍء جامعة وما زال المكان الذي ل ب ّد من رؤيته إن كنت تزور دوسلدورف أو تسكن فيها .يصف الشارع بـ “قلب دوسلدورف وروحها” والحقيقة أ ّن سكّان المدينة يفخرون بهذا الشارع الذي يحبّونه فيدعونه .KÖ على الجهة الشرقيّة للشارع تقع عدّة محالت ومتاجر رئيسيّة ،من العالمات اإليطاليّة Armaniو Gucciإلى الفرنسيّة Chanel محل ،Diorفقام بتصميمه Raf Simonsليحاكي شقّة و .Kenzoأ ّما ّ باريسيّة أنيقة ،جدرانها مكس ّوة بالمرايا وتكثر فيها التحف الفنيّة. للراغبين بعالمات ألمانيّة عريقة ،ننصح بـ .Bognerأٍّ ّسس العالمة الالعب األولمبي للقفز على الثلج Willy Bognerفي الثالثينات وبقيت في صدارة مجال مالبس التزلّج والسلع الجلديّة ألجيال .تمزج بين األسلوب القديم واألداء المبتكر فتغدو ستراتها وقمصانها ومعدّات التزلّج لديها من لكل من يريد لفت األنظار على منحدرات التزلّج في األغراض األساسيّة ّ النهار أو في المدينة ليالً. باإلضافة إلى العالمات التجاريّة الرائدة عالميّاً ،يض ّم KÖمجموعة المتخصصة البتكاريّة Douglas .متجر فاخر للعطور ،يتمتّع من المتاجر ّ بتفاصيل داخليّة جميلة على سبيل أثاث من خشب السنديان وس ّجادات فاخرة .يمكن الزبائن تجربة أحدث العطور على منضدة الروائح الذكيّة الشهيرة والعناية بأظافرهم في صالون األظافر. متخصص باللّوازم المنزليّة وقطع الديكور ،أنشأته Franzenمتجر ّ وأدارته أُسر ٌة منذ سنة 1820وهو من المعالم البارزة في KÖمنذ حوالي قرنين .تض ّم هذه المساحة المثيرة لالهتمام ثالثة معارض وتقدّم
